IOWA – -(Ammoland.com)- Iowa Firearms Coalition has been working diligently behind the scenes on significant legislation that will restore our freedoms while also protecting our Second Amendment rights.

Once it’s introduced we’ll be sending another update with full details, including how you can help get this bill signed into law.

We’ve also been tracking the latest news about the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives’ proposal to ban the popular .223/5.56 ammunition known as M855.

Late in the week we also got word of a new backdoor gun control scheme by the ATF. They plan to reinterpret the Gun Control Act of 1986 and in the process make M855 ammunition illegal. As many of you know this is one of the most popular forms of ammo for AR15s and other .223/5.56 rifles. News of this proposed ban came down late in the day Friday, we’re keeping a close eye on this one and are taking steps to make it easy for you to get in fight to block this freedom infringing ban. Send an email to the ATF.

We’ve just activated a new campaign in our Legislative Action Center that allows you to easily send an email to the ATF showing your opposition to their proposed ban.

Week 5 Recap:
It’s been a busy week in the capitol for our lobbyists. As we mentioned, they’ve been working long hours behind the scenes shoring up support for a bill that will most likely be introduced this week. There’s a lot of moving parts to this bill, and we can’t share exact details until it’s been formally introduced. Rest assured though, it’s big and we’re confident it contains something for everyone.

In the meantime support for pro-Second Amendment bills already introduced continues to grow. Our website contains a run down of pro-gun bills currently in the legislature. We’re pushing Iowa’s lawmakers to support bills that would:

Make Iowa a Stand Your Ground state (HF92)

  • Ban the confiscation of guns and ammunition during times of emergency (HF45)
  • Strengthen penalties for communities that try to illegally ban guns (HF59)
  • Repeal the ban on youth shooting (HF99)

What you need to know for week 6:
Expect to be hearing from us about our latest pro-gun owner bill. Once it’s been introduced we’ll be providing updates as it makes its way through the legislature. This will be a very ambitious bill, and we’ll need you to get active in order to get it passed.

We’ll also be monitoring the ATF/M855 situation. We’ll providing updates as they become available on our website – IowaFC.org and our Facebook and Twitter pages.

What you can do right now:

  • Use our pre-written email to contact the ATF and tell them you oppose their latest infringement on our rights.
  • If you haven’t already, send an email to your legislators telling them to support pro-gun owner bills already introduced this year.
  • Get your family and friends involved. Forward this email, or tell them about the work IFC is doing to protect and enhance our rights.
  • Stand ready! We’re introducing more legislation soon. When that happens we’ll need everyone we can get to spring into action.

Fighting for your Second Amendment rights in Iowa,
