Why the ATF Didn’t Outlaw Your Ammunition This Week

Southern California –-(Ammoland.com)  The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms claimed that the most popular rifle cartridge in the US was illegal. That was a huge power grab by the Obama administration.

That claim required the ATF to reinterpret its long-standing rules.  And why shouldn’t they.

There is no one to stop President Obama if he pressed forward with an illegal presidential finding.

Certainly the republican senators or congressmen will not stop the president. That left me wondering.. who stopped the latest gun grab?

spineless and chinless
Congressional Leaders

Republican legislators said they might..do something.  That is a hollow threat.  Remember these are the political bodies lead by Senator Mitch McConnell and Representative John Bonner..  Messieurs Chinless and Spineless. These are the same RINO politicians who voted for Obamacare and supported open borders immigration while they were in the legislative majority.  They would not defund the ATF.  Obama set the groundwork to outlaw rifle ammunition in the US.  In reply, a few Republicans wrote a sternly worded letter.  The republicans are posturing politicians and the Obama administration knows it.

ATF Director Appointee, B. Todd Jones
ATF Director Appointee, B. Todd Jones

This proposed ammunition ban by the ATF opened the door to outlaw all civilian rifle ammunition.  That door remains open.  The director of the ATF, B. Todd Jones, said all 5.56 ammunition is a threat to law enforcement.  So is most rifle ammunition in general.  We should not be surprised by the ATF Director’s comment.  The sentiment comes directly from the community organizer we elected as president.  So what stopped the ATF?

The ammunition grab didn’t go as planned.  The Obama administration assumed the news media would offer unquestioning support.  Instead, the news media actually reported the ammunition grab as news.

That is amazing.  I was as shocked as the Obama administration.  The media actually reported the news and what it meant to American firearms owners.  Suddenly, the ammunition ban became politically dangerous for the ATF.  Their action could galvanize America’s 100 million gun owners into opposition.  Yes, even the gun owning old Fudds who think they are immune from politics could wake up.  Gun owners, that sleeping mass of Americans, might wake up and realize that Obama wants to take their guns after all.  These “non-political” gun owners are a giant the ATF wants to leave alone.  The ATF wants that giant to sleep soundly.. at least through the next election.

Snore.

The ammunition ban almost woke up the gun owners of the United States.  This ammunition ban almost drove American gun owners to join the National Rifle Association, the Gun Owners of America, and the Second Amendment Foundation.  I say almost.

The gun groups were ready to beat the drum and expand their membership.  The gun groups ran commercials asking people to join them.  The political masters at the ATF do not want to politicize and activate the 100 million gun owners in America.

So who stopped the ATF ammunition grab?  We did!

The ammunition ban isn’t over.  The ATF will wait until a cop is shot with a rifle.. even if they have to sell rifles to criminals across the country.  Then the ATF will return to the main stream media with fresh talking points in hand and propose an ammunition ban.  You can count on it.

What should we do?  How can the average Joe and Jane support liberty?  I’m sorry, but it is not by giving money to the Republican Party and its RINOs.  Wake up, America.  Join the National Rifle Association, the Gun Owners of America and the Second Amendment Foundation.  They support liberty and protect our rights.. even when Republican’s don’t.

Whether 100 million gun owners belong to any gun rights group isn’t the point. One-hundred million gun owners support these gun rights groups. These are still 100 million votes for gun rights and 100 million votes against gun grabbers!

I used to belong to the NRA back in the 70’s. dropped out because it seemed they wanted money I didn’t have every other week. Watching the world over the past year, think I’ll join again. It’s not looking pretty.

You can just not send money if you don’t have it. Without the NRA we would not be able to own guns now they are that important to our rights. $35.00 a year (and you can find many offers to pay $10.00 of that for you if you search) is the price for two boxes of ammo. Tiny price to pay for your “right to keep and bear arms” now isn’t it? I certainly think it is and I wish that every gun owner felt the same way. My Wife and I will be members as long as they will… Read more »

Remember just before the OK City bombing the FBI asked for more power? Then we had the bombing. Coincidence? I think not. Thankfully there were those in Washington who saw thru the ruse and stopped it. I don’t think we are as safe these days though. Very few in Washington have any courage and those are attacked by the Dems and RINOS.

It is essential all weapon owners maintain awareness of current anti Second Amendment efforts by this, or any other administration. WRITE your legislators and express your opinions. JOIN the NRA and SUPPORT NRA-ILA and other organization lobbying efforts. While form letters sent by automation are convenient, they are seldom read but rather counter on either side of an issue. Want to make an impression, RESPECTFULLY write a real letter and mail it. And DO NOT THREATEN your legislator, it will finish your position and possibly peg you as a ‘wing-nut’. Bottom line, complaining on blogs without writing your legislator is… Read more »

I think the key words in the article are: “this week!”. Just wait and see, on the friday before the holiday at 17:00 hours or there-abouts … an article on the 8th page of the newspaper, in small print. The BATFE changes it’s mind. Perhaps “wait and see” is a poor choice of words. Stay alert and proactive!

@CowboyBob,up until 2013 I agreed with you about the NRA ! Nomore !

james

Agree every citizen who cares about our RTKBA should join the NRA and Gun Owners of America.

Remember with the NRA membership you get discounts on rental cars, that will easily pay the annual dues.

I am life member since 2013.

Cowboy Bob

Do your part and JOIN the NRA now! They are unrelenting in protection of your civil rights.

To Stand

Also keep hammering your reps. on all Pro-Gun & Anti – ATF legislation. HR 1130 ( Gimme Back My Bullets Bill ) HR 1329 – Dis-Mantle the corrupt ATF . And HR 2247 ( Bring Back Surplus Rifles From S.Korea ) It only takes a minute , and keeps the pressure on them.

Crotalus

We have to do more than defund the BATF. Somehow, the entire fedgov must be driven out of the gun regulation business altogether.

Our Constitution says “…shall not be infringed.” Given that no law creates any more rights, freedoms, or options than existed prior to its creation, it either has no effect, or it INFRINGES! This applies to our GOD given right to self defense. Period. The problem is that America has been rendered stupid, ignorant, and apathetic, and now has the best government that money can buy. Such systemic rot is not fixable under our present system, which is quickly collapsing under its own weight. The light at the end of the tunnel is just the freight train bearing down on life… Read more »

I wouldn’t put it past the government to actually do the shooting (of a uniformed good guy) themselves. Why “sell a gun to a criminal? (Do criminals actually buy their firearms??)
If they can run the Fast and Furious scheme, they certainly can kill off a good guy or two, to their benefit too.

DirtyHarry44

A real wake up call to the Republican party would be them losing their majority, not to the Democrats, but to the Libertarian party. That would wake both parties up to the fact that the American people are fed up with the growth of Gov’t. They are supposed to be Civil Servants not Imperial Masters. The constitution was written to control Gov’t, not the people! I”m really getting tired of all this running around the constitution to try and ban or outlaw this or that. I’m also getting tired of lying politicians that promise you the world and deliver NOTHING!… Read more »

“all 5.56 ammunition is a threat to law enforcement”

That’s the whole point now isn’t it? Not that I am suggestion the criminal murder of law enforcement. What I am suggesting is that organizations like the DHS, FBI, and even local law enforcement could become our oppressors or the tools of oppression.

The grab of rifle ammo is the equivalent of the events around mid April 1775.

Vanns40

That’s the first part, the rest is to put so much pressure on Congress that they take away the regulatory power from ATF. Only then will this problem be solved.

Dr Dave

Don’t waste your time it will NEVER happen as long as BHO is POTUS and has the right to veto anything brought to the desk. The Republicans will NEVER take away the ATF except to turn it over to the FBI and DEA (chopping it up) which would 1000 times worse. If you hate the ATF then wait till you see what it will look like if the under funded FBI takes over the reins of gun and explosive control while the DEA handles alcohol and tobacco. Bottomline save your stamps the ATF is staying right where it is and… Read more »

Their mistake was thinking the rest of the Nation was like Ferguson, Missouri. The ‘Monochrome Coalition’ may line up with this ‘Regime’, but not the rest of this Country.

Michael

Thank you for the excellent blog. Ever since the Senate voted down Feinstein and her Nazi inspired “assault weapons ban among nearly every other gun” bill, the one thing that concerns me the most is the apathy of gun owners. Why aren’t those 100,000,000 American gun owners members of one or more of the major 2nd Amendment promotion and protection groups? Imagine an NRA with 100,000,000 members! Even greater, imagine the NRA and GOA each with 100,000,000 members! Oh my! Although I’ve never liked lobbyists in general because they seem to always lobby for the taking away of my freedoms,… Read more »

Great Work, Good Result; This Time!

James Harper

I can say one thing will happen for sure, this administration will destroy our country and constitution if we the people don’t stand up and willing to throw this government out just the way our founders did. Obama and his cronies in office and the way it looks the leadership in congress is as much Obama ass kissers as all his cronies! That bullet ban is nothing but a power grab and Obama is setting our country up to be taken over by foreigners and we Americans have to stop him and them!

THOMAS

You have this spot on,but the AMERICAN PEOPLE have lost their resolve as well as the courage to take up arms as our forefathers did. The system has been set up to keep the people under control by military & law inforce meant.
The only way a revolt would work is to have the military and law inforcement on the side of the people an not on the side of these power grabing political thugs!

Ed

Um, do you recall the festivities at Bundy ranch and in Washington state and Connecticut of late? Seems there are actually real Americans who will stand in defense or our rights. Perhaps you’ll join us one day soon…

entsan

Your “analysis” is basically full of s**t. Moronic in it’s assessment of Congress.

Dr Dave

No sure why you suggest it was full of *** I thought it was spot on. The bottom-line is the current leadership of our Republican party are far more worried political correctness then doing what they were hired by us who voted them. The Chinless and Spineless will NEVER lead the party to success they are far too worried about someone accusing them of not playing in the sandbox with other party members. We hired them to not play well with others but to b the only voice IN the box. Right now it is March and so far after… Read more »

I agree with Entsan. Sounds like you’ve been listening to too much right wing nut radio. “Spineless and Chinless” and the GOP controlled chambers they lead are the only things that stand between us and a gun ban. Go talk with the NRA and ask them what they think of these two leaders, The article is basically a ill–informed political hit job veiled as a pro-gun story.
