Fort Benning, GA -(Ammoland.com)- The USA Shooting Team’s best finish of the day at the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Cup came from Keith Sanderson, who finished in sixth place in Men’s Rapid Fire Pistol.

Sanderson (Colorado Springs, Colorado, pictured), who won gold in Men’s Rapid Fire at this event last year, edged out a tight field of competitors with a score of 585 in Qualification to snag the sixth and last spot in the Final. His 2012 Olympic teammate Emil Milev (Temple Terrace, Florida) finished in 20th place with a score of 578 and Brad Balsley (U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit/Uniontown, Pennsylvania) finished in 35th place with a score of 569.

Oliver Geis of Germany would end up winning the gold medal, followed by 2012 Olympic gold medalist Leuris Pupo, who won silver. Christian Reitz of Germany won bronze. In Women’s Air Pistol, 2012 Olympian Sandra Uptagrafft (Phenix City, Alabama) was the highest finisher for the U.S. in 36th place with a score of 378 and Courtney Anthony (Lexington, Nebraska) finished in 72nd place with a score of 369. Antoaneta Boneva of Bulgaria won the gold medal, followed by Gundegmaa Otryad of Mongolia won silver. Anna Korakaki of Greece won the bronze medal.

Competition continues tomorrow with the Women’s Three-Position Rifle event. All of the U.S. athletes competing in this event: Amanda Furrer (Spokane, Washington), Amy Sowash (Richmond, Kentucky) and Hannah Black (Richmond, Virginia), have moved on from today’s Elimination round and will compete in Qualification tomorrow. Medals will also be awarded in this event later tomorrow. Elimination scores have no bearing on Qualification and are simply used to narrow the field of competitors.

So far the USA Shooting Team has won one medal – gold by Michael McPhail (USAMU/Darlington, Wisconsin) in Men’s Prone Rifle yesterday- and three Olympic quotas at this World Cup: McPhail with his gold-medal win, James Henderson (USAMU/Midland, Georgia) who finished in fourth place in Men’s Free Pistol and Sarah Beard (Danville, Indiana), who finished in fifth in Women’s Air Rifle.
