Fairfax, VA -(AmmoLand.com)- The state Senate overwhelmingly passed the NRA-backed “Constitutional/Permitless Carry” bill,Legislative Document 652, by a 21-14 vote.

The fight is now in the House of Representatives, where this important pro-gun legislation will go to next for a final vote as early as next Monday. As previously reported, LD 652, sponsored by Senator Eric Brakey (R-Androscoggin), would allow all residents of Maine who are not otherwise prohibited by law from possessing a firearm the right to carry concealed without obtaining a Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP).

LD 652 would also leave the current carry permitting system intact for those who wish to participate in reciprocal concealed carry permit agreements when traveling to other states. In Maine, existing state law recognizes the right of any citizen who can legally own/possess a firearm to carry it openly, either loaded or unloaded, anywhere in the state. Since law-abiding citizens can carry a firearm openly without a permit, they should not become criminals just because they put on a jacket or place their firearm in their purse or briefcase.

Your Representative needs to hear from you! The vote is expected to be closer in the House, and your Representative could be the deciding vote! Please use our online form or call your Representative and politely urge them to support LD652.

Also, if your state Senators voted in favor of this bill, please take a moment to thank them for their support in the fight for our Second Amendment freedoms.

My comment here is on July 1 2015, around 12:30 pm Wednesday: Gee, it sure would be nice to know what the law is regarding “concealed carry without a permit” in the State of Maine. With the recent news reports, some people who may need to know this, are getting the impression this “Constitutional carry” or “Vermont carry” is already in effect. As far as I can tell, as of July 1 2015, in actual real fact, this particular law is not yet in effect in Maine USA. Is that true? Also, is there any good prediction of when this… Read more »

The more States that pass Constitutional Carry the greater the pressure on other States to at least offer some reform on their laws.
