Illinois –-(Ammoland.com)- The 115th Grand American Trapshooting Championships are beginning to wind down at the World Shooting Complex (WSC) in Sparta Illinois.

The WSC is living up to its name. The firing lines are populated by shooters from not only the United States but also from Canada, Australia, Brazil, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.

There are companies from all over the world represented here. I spoke with one shooter from Australia who told me that it costs him between $16,000 and $18,000 to shoot in the Grand American.

That gives you an idea of what an economic engine this competition has become. Hopefully the new laws allowing firearm and ammunition purchases at the Grand American will help even more.

I have not gotten the exact number of youth shooters who participated in the AIM 3-gun event here, but I am told that number is over 500 participants. AIM is the Amateur Trapshooting Associations (ATA) junior shooting program. AIM stands for Academics, Integrity, and Marksmanship. The ISRA sponsored and supplied volunteers in partnership with the ATA. Well done everyone and thanks again. This is one of the largest youth shooting events anywhere.

KFVS12 News

The July 2015 National Instant Background Check (NICS) numbers are in and they were an astounding 946,528. This is nearly a 16% increase over the July 2014 numbers.

I have reached a tentative agreement with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) to hold ISRA classes at the World Shooting Complex in Sparta. The first of these will be our AR15 Operation and Maintenance class that will be held in January or February of 2016. We are also working with the Effingham Sportsman’s Club to host an AR15 Operation and Maintenance class there. If you are interested in these classes, please contact the ISRA office at (815) 635-3198 and speak with Mary or email [email protected]. Please be sure to leave your name, address, phone number, email, and which location you prefer. We are also interested in other types of classes you would like to see. These would include basic pistol, rifle, and shotgun classes. We will also offer instructor classes in those same disciplines. We will entertain other firearm classes as well. Let us know.
