Fairfax, VA -(AmmoLand.com)- The Honolulu Police Department and City of Honolulu recently decided it will destroy $500,000 worth of fully-functioning handguns, rather than selling them for revenue.

This decision comes after the department signed a contract for new service handguns to be used by officers. By destroying these guns, the City is throwing away nearly half-a-million dollars of tax-payer money over the irrational fear that these guns will “end up on the streets of Honolulu.” This assumption appears to be in line with an anti-gun agenda.

Further, the department doesn’t even trust the highly trained HPD officers to purchase their own previously used service guns back for personal use, let alone private citizens looking to exercise their constitutional rights.

At this time, it is undetermined how much tax payer money is going to be spent by the city of Honolulu to destroy these firearms, some of which are brand new and still in their boxes.

This is a poor use of Honolulu’s tax-payer money and resources. Law-abiding gun owners should be allowed to purchase these surplus handguns and bring nearly $500,000 of revenue to the city.

Please contact Mayor Caldwell and voice your disappointment in the way the city is handling this situation.

Throwing away tax payer money? That is in line with the liberal mindset. Throw away money and take more from the citizenry. It isn’t their money anyway so what do they care. Imagine how many abortions Planned Parenthood could perform with all that tax payer funding.

Mannie

Cut their budget another half million.

The same Federal government that funds those police departments continues to send hundreds of thousands of firearms to Islamic rebels in the Middle East (Syria, Iraq, Egypt). It’s not firearms they are afraid of. It’s Americans with firearms they don’t want here.

james

Steve McGarrett will be rolling over in his grave regardless that HPD is going to destroy the firearms

Only a governmental organization could be this stupid. Do they crush old squad cars to keep them off the streets? I am glad it is an island far, far away.

hippybiker

I wonder if they are getting any Federal money to help with this action?

You can’t fix stupid. You can only try to isolate it. Like on an island in the middle of an ocean…

If they are worried about these firearms ending up on the street, why don’t they sell them to other law enforcement agencies stateside that may be strapped for equipment and help out some fellow officers. DUH!! Instead of wasting tax money!!

james

Exactly, sell them to other police departments that don’t have mega millions to waste on new guns like HPD.

The same old bravo-sierra line ‘end up on the streets’.

Just like these dumb ‘guy buy backs’, the guns are inside the homes of law abiding citizens,
not on the streets.

Why did we ever grant ‘statehood’ to Hawaii anyway?

Sich

@ Janek

The same reason we granted Texas Statehood! Stupidity!!

Actually the REPUBLIC OF TEXAS existed prior to statehood and when the arrangements were made for Texas to become “a state”…we reserved the right to break up in to as many as 5 states if our citizens so choose. Also, the Texas Flag may fly at the same height as the U.S. flag…unlike other states where it must be flown below Old Glory. So be careful what you say, or there could be FOUR MORE RED STATES…with 8 new state senators from the “extra states that would be created in such a situation.” How does that tip the scales when… Read more »
