Covington VA -(AmmoLand.com)- The General Election is on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 — seven (7) weeks from today.

VCDL has surveyed all the candidates running for the General Assembly — the Virginia Senate and the House of Delegates. Unfortunately, many have NOT answered the VCDL 2015 Candidate Survey.

The survey questions for both the Senate and House of Delegates can be found at: https://vcdl.org/sites/default/files/General_Assembly_Candidate_Survey_2015.pdf

For candidate contact info and to see who has answered the Survey along with a qualitative assessment of how they answered, go to:https://vcdl.org/GA_Candidates_2015_General It’s important to note that this qualitative assessment describes HOW THE CANDIDATE ANSWERED THE SURVEY, and is *not* an overall assessment of the candidate.

One House of Delegates candidate (Ellen Arthur) declined to answer the VCDL Survey and said she was a 35-year gun owner but supported:

  • Universal gun registration
  • Requiring permission from the government to transfer any of your firearms to another
  • Legally mandated trigger locks
  • “the right of the state to inspect your weapons”

Even though she declined to answer the VCDL Survey, it’s clear that she views the Right to Keep and Bear Arms as nothing more than permission the government can grant, restrict, or revoke at will and that any “upstanding, sane citizen…should have no problem with” these restrictive gun control measures.

Some other candidates stated, in declining to answer the VCDL Survey, that none of their constituents had contacted them about the Survey, so they felt no need to answer it.

Please contact the candidates in YOUR district who have either not answered or have declined to answer the VCDL 2015 Candidate Survey and politely, but firmly, insist that they complete the VCDL survey and send it in immediately.  If they have misplaced their survey, have them contact me, Jim Snyder, at [email protected] and I’ll email them another copy.

Not sure what District you’re in? You can find out at: https://whosmy.virginiageneralassembly.gov/. (Put your address info in the upper right hand corner of the screen.)

If any of the candidates are afraid to take a public stand on these issues now, BEFORE the election, then they are unlikely to be very responsive to your views AFTER the election.

Failure to return a completed survey frequently indicates indifference, if not outright hostility, toward the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

Thanks for your help!

Note: The candidates’ actual survey responses will be posted on the VCDL website shortly before the General Election in November.
