Arizona – -(Ammoland.com)- The above is a screenshot of the guns of the San Bernardino terrorists.  It has been reported that they had two “assault rifles“.  From ktla.com:

“After they were killed in a shootout, two suspects in Wednesday’s mass shooting in San Bernardino were found to have been carrying AR-15 assault rifles, pistols and many magazines of ammunition, ATF Agent Meredith Davis said.”

The New York Times and other outlets repeated the misinformation that was put out by the ATF.  In Agent Davis’ defense, she did say “commonly referred to as” before she said “assault rifles”.  The rifles are not “assault rifles“, which is a technical term, though they may be “assault weapons” a legal term defined under California law, which varies from state to state.

The rifles had been illegally altered to accept detachable magazines, and the terrorists had possession of numerous standard capacity magazines, instead of the reduced capacity magazines mandated by California law.  One of the rifles was manufactured by DPMS and the other was a Smith & Wesson M&P 15.   It has been reported that there was an attempt to convert the M&P 15 to full auto fire.

Both rifles were equipped with reflex optical sights, iron backup sights, vertical foregrips, slings, and retractable stocks.

From wsj.com:

“Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik, the suspects in the Wednesday shooting that left 14 people dead and 21 wounded, were armed with four guns. They carried two .223-caliber semiautomatic weapons and two 9mm semiautomatic pistols, according to San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan.”

The two semiautomatic rifles were versions of the popular AR-15 model, according to San Bernardino officials. One was made by DPMS Inc., and the other by Smith & Wesson.

Early reports had claimed that one of the pistols was made by Smith & Wesson, but that was later corrected to Springfield Armory. The other pistol was made by Llama. Both pistols were chambered in the popular 9×19 cartridge, commonly known as the 9mm Luger.

A Llama hand gun appeared to be one of their 1911 type clones.

The Llama is one of their 1911 type clones. Note that the bottom of the slide is machined straight all the way to the muzzle.

The pistols have been said to have been legally purchased by Syed Farook in California four years ago. It is not known if the pistols were fired during the attack.

The two attackers have been reported as having 1,600 rounds of rifle ammunition and 200 rounds of pistol ammunition at the end of the gunfight with police.

Numerous gun and other laws were broken by Syed Farook and his partner.  The rifles were illegally altered.  They illegally manufactured explosive devices designed as anti-personnel, in violation of federal and California law. They transported the guns and explosive devices in violation of California law, on several counts.

Does it need to be said that they illegally murdered people, destroyed property, shot at police, and placed the pubic in danger?

Determined terrorists such as these will always be able to obtain weapons to accomplish their ends, just as was demonstrated in France and other countries.

What happened to the third guy?

Remember the live video of the black woman and all the others who reported three shooters, where did the third one go?
Google it if you don’t remember

Chuck

There are no assault weapons owned by average citizens. The media lied saying these rifles were fully automatic. The press, congress, president should be held accountable for lying just to sway the country in the direction of gun control. As we see, guns are flying off the shelves in all states, including CA, after the shootings. People know that cops can’t protect you and most of these people were dead before the cops got there. As we have seen in the past months, cops can’t even protect themselves from hood criminals out the get them only because they are white.

This article is 100% RIGHT!!!. These were post – ban guns under California State law that were modified to accept high capacity (20-30-50 or more rounds) detachable magazines . HMmmmmmmmm some professional Gun-Smithing gone on here, FBI/ATR states more arrests will be pending. Like to see who this Joker will be.

Seems to me that we allow the media blitz to gain ground on us in the language they push upon us. If you read the article you will notice that Dean has fallen victim to this very thing. “AR-15’s” are semi-automatic rifles, the AR stands for…………….Armalite Rifle not Assault Rifle. There is really no such thing as an assault rifle. Assault is a verb, an action, something that I have yet to see any of my firearms do to date without my help. We need to clean up our culture somewhat. I realize that this ultimately sounds rather trivial, however… Read more »

From the front slide serrations, I would say that is an XDm.

When are we going to stop talking about guns and start talking about the instruments of this destruction – the radical Islamists- who are NOT doing this for their religion. The pukes at C. A. I. R. say only 10% of Muslims have been radicalized. That means there are more terrorists in the United States than their are U. S. Marines throughout the world! Get this cancer out of our country!! (Sidebar: The largest mass murder in the history of the world by an individual was committed with a sword and a knife – not a gun.)

Brent

That is not an XDs. It’s just a regular ol XD-9. But it is certainly not CA legal. All of the SA polymer 9’s are too high capacity for CA.

According to the POS in the White House, this must be what “Global warming” looks like!

Xd 9mm legal in Komiefornia in different variations including the single stack. Many of the models are sold as a Komiefornia version with a ten round only magazine. Same gun/ frame, different magazines. I escaped the socialist state about a year ago for The Great State of Texas where my XDSC now resides legally with a 16 round magazine.

james

The two rifles have a ‘vertical style grip’ installed, that is in violation of CA law.

Xd 9mm legal in Komiefornia in different variations.

Dave

That would be a Xd not the Xd-s. Which could have been legally purchased since the Xd has been around for 10 years or so.

I’ve written off Kommiefornistan and several other Communist States that I will never visit.
And if any of this B.S. makes it into Law (not likely while Nicki Haley is Gov.) I’m moving lock, stock and barrel and everything else to Arizona. I’m retired. I’m not tied down.

Dumbocrats of course, what else did you expect.

Propositionn 65 in mexiforinia will not allow out of state companies to ship Harmless Licorice products to residents but Prop 65 does not stop the the govt from placing more terrorists into the city of San Bernadin.o

???

Many Companies cannot ship Black Licorice Candy products to Mexifornia but there is no Law against the govt planting more terrorists into San Bernardino.

Just want to understand the comment “The rifles had been illegally altered to accept detachable magazines” Is this a reference to the replacement of the bullet button with a standard magazine release button? Here in California the main AR differences are the addition of a bullet button and 10 round mag limit. I’m sure the author is aware that we have detachable magazines here, just requires the replacement of the mag release with a tool-required button. What angers me as much as anything is the media babbling on about how easy it is to get high-capacity magazines online. I know… Read more »

I own a Springfield XDS in 9 mm, and the case it came in has a sticker saying illegal in California. Hard to believe theirs was bought legally.

Ed

Did anyone notice that they state the ar15s were modified illegally to take a detachable magazine. I thought all ar15a were designed to take detachable magazines. where do these people get this information.

Vanns40

Has anyone noticed that no one has questioned the $30,000 figure for firearms, pipe bombs and ammo that the authorities have been giving out? How in the world does anyone come up with that?

Nantambu Okechuku

It’s so very sad that this country is having to live in fear because of some radical beliefs of others. It’s going to be difficult to get a hold on These extremists, it sounds good to arm law abiding citizens but I don’t think it will happen because of the liabilities and public safety, what might have to happen is what happened to the Japanese during WWll the truth of the matter is that this is a major concern, also these people are going to make it hard on the law abiding gun owners we are responsible and respect guns… Read more »

When I see the brief CNN photos of a bag of ammo that was in the car, it looks to me like they are showing AK47 rounds in stripper clips. They don’t look like necked down .223 rounds. No mention of what other rounds they had in their car or house , except .223 and 9mm. Here is a question; if they had other calibers like i suspect, who where they for and who has the gun(s)? Something for the FBI to track down.

Scudrunner

Another ” gun free zone ” exploited, we just don’t learn anything, let people who are licensed to CCW, carry. This could have had a much different outcome had people been able to returned fire!

Eric

Well, we all know this will turn out being another way for the Gun-haters to piss on firearms again, you know the infamous “Assault Weapons”, idiots, all of them. Criminals will ALWAYS find a way to secure firearms and or any weapon for that matter. Guns don’t kill people, PEOPLE kill other People. . . . .
I wouldn’t be surprised if the gov’t knew about this “plot” and let it happen…NoBoma and his jack-booted thugs at work…

TEX

@Eric,sshhhh….them liberal gun grabbing douches don’t want to hear that because it’s the truth !

Eric

In the end only another firearm stopped a criminal act.
