Washington, DC – -(Ammoland.com)- The National Rifle Association (NRA) commends Virginia’s leaders for reaching an agreement to secure the rights of law-abiding concealed carry permit holders.
H.B. 1163 and S.B. 610 which will restore and promote concealed carry reciprocity for permit holders in the Commonwealth and around the country, were signed into law today.
“Now, more than six million law-abiding gun owners will be free to travel in and out of Virginia with their Second Amendment rights intact,” said Chris W. Cox, executive director of the NRA Institute for Legislative Action. “Self-defense is a fundamental right that must be respected.”
On Dec. 22, 2015, Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring decided to sever concealed carry reciprocity agreements with half the country. The change was set to take effect early in 2016. The decision nullified agreements with the following states; Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
In addition to providing concealed carry recognition for valid permits from other states, the bipartisan legislation signed today requires the Virginia State Police to enter into reciprocal agreements with other states where needed.
“Concealed carry permit holders are among the safest groups of citizens in Virginia and throughout the country. On behalf of the NRA’s more than five million members, we commend this effort to protect public safety and fundamental freedoms. Hopefully this effort will encourage Congress to pass national right to carry reciprocity legislation as soon as possible,” concluded Cox.
Governor McAuliffe signed the legislation earlier today despite a repeated onslaught of attacks from New York City Billionaire Michael Bloomberg and his misguided gun control allies.

I have a novel proposition (which I am practicing myself). How about we tell these politicians to GO POUND SAND, refuse (as I am) to beg for a “permission slip” from our SERVANTS, and just exercise our Right to Keep and Bear Arms, which SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED? I made my decision some time ago, and if I feel the need or want to carry, then I’ll carry. It is MY decision, not THEIRS.

Good the reciprocity system was not taken away as it was at first…. but how many know that came at a cost? First they took away the Blue Ball, one we like a lot. Actually guys, the NRA WAS in on this before we were. Philip and I took a very active position once Senator Reeves brought us in, but calling us the “prime mover” is taking credit for other peoples’ work. We all know an organization or two that does that…smirk…but VCDL does not! In this case, NRA really was here first. I have no problem saying it for you.
Notice that the NRA does not come out and say what they actually did to promote this deal (actual compromise). VCDL was the prime mover and made a lot of tweaks to the legislation. The NRA is best kept at a distance when it comes to Virginia politics and we prefer it that way. VCDL knows best and has and will handle the gun laws of Virginia for Virginians.
So let the disarmanuts squeal and cry about the mean ol’ NRA. The VCDL will be there every time to thwart them. VCDL.org.
I have had dealings with both the VCDL and the WVCDL and both of them make the NRA look like amateur chicken pluckers trying to deal with gun rights in comparison to what the CDLs are able to accomplish. For what it is worth, in my opinion, your money is far better spent with the VCDL than with the NRA.
It is nice that Virginia responded quickly. But passage of National Reciprocity and amending Federal GFSZ law to include reciprocity and lawful self-defense may have been setback. The news about VA could have been the leverage needed to force the dozen states thar refuse all . NYC doesn’t even recognize a NYS CWW!

This is NOT as people see it. Rights are still slowly being chipped away in this deal. When the initial cancellation of reciprocity occurred, there was an outcry. A “deal” was made here where the reciprocity was reinstated, essentially unchanged from its initial form, in trade for a few “concessions” by the gun-rights side. So, they take away rights then state we will restore them IF these other more restrictive items are included. I have to disagree with you, Warrior. First, reciprocity is NOT reinstated unchanged. We are going from Reciprocity-by-Agreement, to Universal Recognition, which will automatically give us three or more new states, and open the door to agreements with others. Second, the voluntary bgc at gun shows is a GOOD thing, for two reasons. Every year, we face bgc bills. They take all kinds of forms. From here out, we know EXACTLY what we will be fighting, “voluntary” to “mandatory”. bgc bills just became as predictable as a Swiss watch. Attorney General Mark Herring did not decide on his own to sever reciprocity agreements. Scumbag McAuliffe at the urging of Michael ‘Big Gulp’ Bloomberg, directed Herring the lemming to do so. McAuliffe signed because there was pending legislation to remove his security detail among other things. Herring, McAuliffe and Bloomberg are all enemies of the American people and it should be so noted.
This quick turnaround by Virginia is surprising. I know we launched a significant campaign to challenge the VA AG and Governor’s plans. But, you would never know from this article who or what was behind the reversal of mind by McAuliffe.
until yu can drive from sea to shining sea what good does it really do. I live in Delaware cant drive to Florida without going thru Georgia. So unless other states join up its kind of a bad plan, coz yu just cant travel without passing thru a non reciprocal state and the possibility of whatever the tickets and fines and probably confiscation laws are

Actually Jim, McAuliffe is a die-hard anti. The last thing he will ever do is stand up for gun owners. Attorney Degenerate Mark Herring kicked over SUCH a hornets’ nest that McAuliffe was facing an embarrassing all-but-certain veto override. Mac was covering his OWN ass, nothing more. But yes, I applaud him for standing up TO the onslaught from Hizzoner and his minions. I honestly thought he’d cave. I had him wrong.
Not to mention the tens of thousands of citizens that raised hell over the move to cut off our carry agreements and this just eleven months before the election that the democrats can’t win without Virginia. All of the mad gun owners here in VA would have gone to the voting booth with the fact that they couldn’t visit friends and family safely burning in their brain. I just hope they have finally developed a long term memory on how the DNC treats and plans to treat them in the future.
