United States -(AmmoLand.com)- “I will get rid of gun-free zones on schools, and — you have to — and on military bases. My first day, it gets signed, okay? My first day. There’s no more gun-free zones,” said Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump.
This is a great start! Free citizens deserve the right to have a fighting chance to save their own lives without fear of being imprisoned, just because they have the capability to effectively fight back against armed evil-doers.
However, there are many other “gun free zones” besides the two mentioned above. Some examples are:
- U.S. Post Offices
- Federal land owned by the Army Corps of Engineers
- Federal land owned by the TVA
- Federal park buildings
- Federal libraries
- Federal museums
- Federal visitor centers
These federal victim zones should not be a difficult issue to correct by allowing licensed citizens to carry firearms in them, if these same citizens can also be trusted to carry in public schools.
Army Corps of Engineers
Corps of Engineers federal land is a bigger issue than you may know. It has sparked more than one lawsuit.
There are several state parks across the country that lease and occupy federal COE land. In most of those states, although it is legal to carry firearms in their state parks on state owned land, the particular state parks that occupy COE land is strictly off-limits to firearms carry for self-defense, even though hunting on some of that same COE land is permitted by federal law. Ironic, isn’t it?
Here is the list of state parks in Georgia that is off-limits to carrying firearms for the purpose of self-defense:
- Red Top Mountain
- Seminole
- George T. Bagby
- Florence Marina
- Tugaloo
- Hart
- Bobby Brown
- Richard B. Russell
- Elijah Clark
- Mistletoe
I’d wager that many have carried their pistol at these parks all the while being unaware they were at risk of being incarcerated in federal prison. Folks, that just ain’t right.
Trump seems to understand that when people are able to defend themselves from evil-doers, the body count is greatly reduced. Unarmed, sitting ducks is going to be a thing of the past if he follows through on his promise if elected, AND if he acts accordingly with regard to the other “gun-free zones” listed above.
I’d like to hear what Trump plans to do about these other victim-rich zones.

J.J., yes, I have actually read the law you cite.
Two facts:
1. The “other lawful purposes” exception has NEVER been tested in Federal Court with regard to carrying a firearm for the purpose of self-defense.
2. Obviously, the Federal Government does not believe it to be included as a lawful exception to carrying in their buildings where they have posted “No Weapons” signs.
After you have become the first test case, write me please. Until then, you should prudently conclude that these are indeed “gun-free zones”.
Yet you can mail a rifle to yourself in any state, so how would one mail a firearm if it’s prohibited from the parking lot or office. The stupidity of government people amazes me and the even worse is the MORONS that keep electing them, namely welfare people that have everything to gain and nothing to lose. One thing I would love enacted is property tax issues should only be voted on by land owners , all other issues can be voted on by everyone.
@ Jeff82 US Post Office is covered under Postal Rule 39 C.F.R. § 232.1(l) is more strict than even federal law 18 USC 930. Even the parking lots of all Post Offices are Gun Free Zones (for us common folk). No, I wasn’t referring at all to Post Office buildings or their property. Yesterday I walked into the Postmaster’s office on business, carrying a pistol, as a Deputy Sheriff. Today I retired. Tomorrow, if I walk into the same Office on business, to see the same person, carrying the same pistol, I become a Federal felon. Go figure!
There’s one more category, and it’s important: VA hospitals and other facilities. The ban includes their parking lots!

I debate myself every time I pull up to the Post Office, “do I want to be the test case?” I’m not aware of any legal precedent, however intent was shown when the Congress attempted to clear it up by specifically stating lawful self defense was ok, but then the anti’s voted against it and won.
You are right. However, let’s be grateful or the new road and bridge. Previously, to legally carry a weapon into the Las Vegas area from the south, you had to go the long way (hour and miles out of the way) to avoid being in violation by driving across the dam (that was the only option at that time)
You have the right to defend yourself…unless we say you don’t.

I was mistaken. I wrote Section C, Paragraph 3. It is actually Section D, Paragraph 3. Sorry for the mix-up.
Include Hoover Dam, in these ridiculous “Gun free zones” I was visiting there and was met with a TSA type search at the entrance. Had a small folding knife with me and declared it, before the magnetometer. Was told if I didn’t take it back to my car it would be confiscated. Parking for that facility is a long way away and up several flights of stairs. Pretty stupid.

I suggest that you read the actual law. Google ’18 USC 930′. I think that you will be surprised by Section C, Paragraph 3. After you have read the actual law, write me please.
