Springfield, IL -(AmmoLand.com)- The latest numbers are in from the Illinois State Police. The great news is that FOID Cards are over 2,000,000; 2,004,164 to be exact.
The number of FOID’s sends a powerful message to the political establishment. To put that number in perspective, Governor Rauner received approximately 1,700,000 votes in the last election. The number of ICCL’s stands at 159,960.
Next, I want to thank all of those who responded to our calls for the witness slips on various bills. On Wednesday, April 6th 2016, HB3160 made it out of committee, despite our best efforts. This means a floor fight at some point. We now have to prepare to contact our legislators in both the House and Senate. I would immediately look up the names, phone numbers and emails of your legislators and keep them handy. When the time comes, we will have to act quickly.
The NRA Convention will be held in Louisville, Kentucky, on May 20th, 21st and 22nd of 2016. This will be the 145th Annual Meeting of the NRA. If you have never been to an NRA Annual Meeting, you should go to the one in Louisville. The next Annual meeting will be held in Atlanta on April 28th, 29th and 30th, 2017. I don’t yet know where the 2018 Annual Meeting will be held. There has been no official announcement but rumors are that it will be in the Southwest. Louisville will be the closest one for a while. The Illinois State Rifle Association will have a booth in Louisville. I hope I will see you there.
IGOLD 2016 was a wet one. We were greeted by a cold drizzly rain in the morning with various spurts of downpours from time to time.
Despite the rain, the enthusiastic crowd gathered at the Prairie Capital Convention Center to hear updates from NRA lobbyists Shannon Alford, Todd Vandermyde, and ISRA lobbyists Valinda Rowe, and myself. Massad Ayoob, legendary firearms instructor, and Chip Eberhart from the NRA ads (I’m the NRA and I am Freedom’s Safest Place), both gave rousing speeches. Every speaker made you proud to be a gun owner and an ISRA member.
Although the drizzle continued at parade time, it did not matter. Our Chief Parade Marshall, Tom Shafer, did a fabulous job (as usual) leading off the parade on time.
These were not the sunshine patriots that people talk about, these marchers were the hard core Second Amendment people that win skirmishes, battles and wars – just what we need.
After arriving at the Capitol, we shortened the length of the speeches at the Lincoln Steps because of the weather and went into the Capitol to lobby our legislators. At 3:30, in the rotunda, we expanded the rally, with over 20 legislators speaking. It was super. I would be remiss if I did not mention all the great people who helped unload, set up, organize, sell memberships and merchandise, tear down, clean up and do all the things that make a successful operation.

Well whooppee dooppee doo! The People’s Replublic of Illinois has passed a major milestone in tracking the collection of yet more taxes (never met one they didnt like) while also depriving Americans of their constitutional right to keep and bear any doggone arms they want, anywhere they want – especially in their own homes or vehicles – in conflict with the Constitution as affirmed yet again by the Supreme Court as recently as March 21, 2016 for Pete’s sake. Tex, You asked Jamie about a FOID, but then stated, “From my perspective isn’t a FOID card just a registration of the firearms you own? Isn’t that an assumption, since you have never seen a FOID application which does not require any firearms information? Acquiring a FOID card does NOT require registration of any firearm! It only states that a person who has a FOID card can handle and or own a firearm. I personally know a few people who have a FOID that don’t even own a firearm! Get your facts strait before spewing your misinformation!!!
GZ,I wasn’t trying to spew any misinformation at all. I had no facts to get strait that’s why you need to learn to read. I was simply asking Jaime about the FIOD card. I have never seen a FOID card application to read what’s on it. I just assumed that it would include the specifics about firearms that you own. @jaime,I really must be missing something. You people in Ill seem to get as excited about getting a FOID card as people in other states do getting a license to carry. From my perspective isn’t a FOID card just a registration of the firearms you own ? At least with a license to carry you don’t give them any info about what firearms you own or what you carry,no serial #’s etc ! If the FOID card is a good thing more power to you !
Tex, Unfortunately it is something we have to live with for the time being. We have some representatives and senators trying to get it repealed as we speak. I hope it gets repealed quickly. It is just another infringement on our rights because the people here in Illinois were asleep and now we are becoming organized and united in the fight for our basic human right to self defense.
