Ft Collins, CO –-(Ammoland.com)- Sounding like a typical Democrat politician, an editorialist in VA recently said:

“I grew up shooting shotguns and rifles with my grandfather..,”

“I understand why people want firearms…,”

Then comes the inevitable punch-line:

“I do not believe, however, that there is any legitimate reason for ordinary citizens to own military-grade weapons…, yet these are somehow legal to be bought and to own.”

Ordinary?” He must be talking about all those “regular” Americans who are proudly self-reliant and want to be able to effectively defend themselves from armed criminals.

“Military-grade weapons” is a broad phrase. He would obviously ban Beretta 92F, and 1911-style pistols if he could.

My guns aren’t “somehow legal.” They ARE legal, and I don’t need the condescending “approval” of some leftist elitist to keep them!

But wait! There’s more:

“An AR-15 makes a lousy self-defense weapon, unless you are worried about guerillas invading your home…”

Actually, that is exactly what I’m worried about, and an AR/M4 makes a superb defensive weapon! I suspect this naive liberal editorialist has never so much as touched one, or he would not make such stupid statements.

And finally this:

“My rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are threatened every day by the presence of military-grade weapons in the hands of untrained or, in a worst-case scenario, violent people.”

Of course, like all leftists, he never gets specific. He cannot describe a single incident in which he, personally, has ever been threatened by a “untrained person” with an AR, nor any other kind of firearm for that matter. The “threats” he describes are all theoretical, but his condescending contempt for his fellow countrymen is all too apparent.

The foregoing is a good summary of the messages we’re hearing from the mouths of Democrats during this election year.

They first try to sooth us by claiming some vague acknowledgment of our Second Amendment, even claiming to have “… gone shooting with my grandfather, ” ad nauseam.

They then insist that we lowly “ordinary” citizens don’t “need” certain currently-legal guns that are widely owned by “ordinary” Americans across the County. The fact that we don’t “need” them is then complete justification for banning them, at least from the hands of all “ordinary” citizens.

Curiously, their proposed bans never apply to them!

These are the same leftist elitists who insist that we “ordinary” Americans don’t “need” a boat, nor a house with a view, nor an SUV. Their narrow definition of “need” apparently defines our individual rights and liberties.

Of course, their personal “need” for all these things is always legitimate and must never be questioned!

These self-proclaimed “ruling elitists” make me sick!

They piously claim moral superiority, putting themselves far above all of us disgusting peons, who just can’t be trusted with lethal weapons. All the while, they of course, “deserve” a host of special rights (including gun rights) and privileges not available to the rest of us.

And, they want us to vote for them!

I just left this under the WP article you cited – wish devious pleasure, as Used to live in the very neighborhood 16 years ago: Could you be more specific about your being threatened? Extraordinary claims require at least a modicum of evidence of something more tangible than regurgitated fear-mongering personal feelings of inadequacy. And so-called “regular” people are the same well-trained citizens that become citizen-soldiers and law-enforcement personnel. Just because modern weapons has evolved into more efficient and safer tools of self-defense and offense, it doesn’t make it any more deadly whether in the hands of a criminal, good… Read more »

If all guns disappeared tomorrow the world WOULD be a safer place. It would be safer for the young, the strong, and the physically fit. The very young, the elderly, the disabled, and almost all women would find themselves right back in the dark ages. Those who lack upper body strength, speed, and stamina would once again be at the mercy of those who have it. This doesn’t even begin to address the issue of multiple attackers. Just a bit more to consider when making that “informed” opinion.

Mark Lee

You’re preaching to the choir. Try applying your expertise to the source of the misinformation and you’ll get more traction.

Wild Bill

No Mark let him continue. I like hearing opinions expressed in a way that I may not think of. Go ahead Mark, you can practice on me before you apply your expertise to the various sources of misinformation and disinformation. I promise to be a tough critic.

Wild Bill

Ooops, I meant go ahead Mike Murray.

Rebuttal to the statement,”If all guns disappeared tomorrow the world WOULD be a safer place.” Not quite, as proven in EVERY location where gun ownership is outlawed. Per Capita you are 65 times more likely to be a victim of violent crime in England as compared to the USA. Because the criminals know you have “legally”had the right to self defense taken away. Crime has ALWAYS risen in those locations where gun ownership is banned. Guns are a simple thing to make in the average tinkers garage. Even if guns NEVER existed the crime rate would be higher because evil… Read more »

Hey 5war, you need to read past the first sentence. Nice rant, but it’s wasted on me. READ THE POST IN FULL! Without guns, we would be defending ourselves with knives, swords, spears and clubs. I’m getting to old for that crap. I’m not as lean, and not as mean, but still a Marine.

5WarVeteran

You need to read my “first line”. Mike.

My guns aren’t “somehow legal.” They ARE legal, and I don’t need the condescending “approval” of some leftist elitist to keep them! Yeah until the rogue agency the BATFE just makes up some stupid rules out of thin air and says what you can and can’t own. Not laws, but rules. So what’s the matter. When are we going to have our true 2nd Amendment back and restored to its true form? We are so pathetic that we have to ask permission, register our weapon, and pay a stupid tax to a bunch of criminals who supply weapons to violent… Read more »

What the hell is a military GRADE weapon? This guy can’t even get terms straight. Just another liberal ahole showing how stupid he is.

PLEASE GET YOUR EMAIL VERIFICATION FIXED! IT”S BEEN ALMOST A MONTH AND YOU STILL CAN FIGURE IT OUT? Time for a new webmaster!!!!!

Cam

Dude, we can get military grade weapons?

When did that happen?

Could someone do me a huge favor and call dillinger aero and tell them it’s OK for me to buy a m-134d-h? When I call they say nope, that I have to be the gobermint, law enforcement agency or a friendly foreign nation. Aw man, such a drag.

Hopefully yall can get it in order for me before fathers day.

The ONLY reason government “employees” come after gun owning LAW ABIDING CITIZENS is because they fear us on the day we realize just how criminal they have been and ARE. If we are disarmed then their private armies can take over to make the genocide begin. History repeating itself. AGAIN and AGAIN. Any FOOL who believes or tells you the Second Amendment is about “hunting” is either a liar or an idiot. Most likely both. The Second Amendment was not decided on haphazardly and it was not coincidence it is the SECOND after THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH. It is the… Read more »

The man is named in a lawsuit because they disparaged the man who wants to run a legitimate business.

Even the politicians used official letterhead to intimidate the property owner, who refused to listen to their idle threats.

If the country keeps going down the path he wants, he may find his “life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness” being much more seriously threatened by a TRAINED person with an AR-15.

fishunter

That well trained person may be holding a AK of some sort and have a different uniform than he is used to. With our boarders allowing most anyone into our country, we do not know what sort of trained personnel are coming into the nation. Someone else may have a plan, so you had better have a plan also.

Wolfram

So predictable. Why don’t they just say I once went hunting with my grandfather and I’m all for the 2nd Amendment until we can regulate it out of existence. The 2nd amendment says nothing about hunting or sporting purposes.

Roy F. Wilt

You can’t Buy Military Grade Weapons unless you have a Class C License!!!!!!! I hate STUPID PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DAN III

Not surprisingly, the Statists/Collectivists/Marxists never question why GOVERNMENT employees need firearms like the “demonic” ARmalite. Their arguments to deny the citizenry of freedom firearms never applies to the badged thugs of government.

Tim

It’s the Bill of Rights, not the Bill of Needs. I don’t NEED to explain my constitutional right to buy firearms to the elite any more than the elite need to explain to me why they desire to live in gated compounds with armed security.

Pistol Pete

He probably lie about shooting gun with his grandfather and if he thinks AR 15 are military grader weapons he is as stupid has our president
that said all anti-gun leftist and liberals are brain dead
I will keep my guns they will just have to keep on being crybabies

Brandon

And i would love to know what type of car he owns…..i’m sure it’s nice and fast….and that it exceeds the speed limit. Yet he is allowed to own it…knowing that it could more than double the speed limit (which is unnecessary) and he should turn in his car and they should take every car from that dealership that exceeds 75 MPH. Hmmmm….doesn’t this sound like a smart thing to do??

Mike Murray

Sadly, logic, common sense, reason, civil rights, and the writings of the founding generation have no place in the gun/anti-gun debate. We might as well argue the 1st Amendment requires them to grow up , get out of the “safe zone”, and tolerate “trigger word hate speech”. Can the true believers be convinced that the American promise is equal opportunity, not equal outcome? They aren’t even willing to just grow the hell up and leave us alone.

2nd Amender

We are all born equal…….

then we meet our parent(s), and our environment…….
it’s up to the individual to make the most of the life he is given!

nothing has changed for millennia, except here in the United States, opportunity exists….for everyone!

Wild Bill

The WaPO “editorialist” mentioned in the article is Ryan Albert, who is at best just another shock jock seeking to increase short term newspaper sales, or at worst just another lying elitist liberal ignorant of our federal Bill of Rights. As there is no right to gather the news enumerated in the Bill of Rights, it is conceivable that we could require news gatherers to get and license, and require ethics classes before potential news gatherers are granted that license. A licensing system for potential news gathers would preclude yellow journalism, and require truth and some modicum of education.

C J

It would also outlaw sites like this. Just who do you think would make the determination of what is “yellow journalism” , “truth”, and a “modicum of education”? Even “news gatherers” have freedom of speech. Even if you don’t like it.

Wild Bill

Yep, there is a Right to free speech, but not a Right to gather news. So the gathering of news is licensable. Who would decide? Journalists of course. Truth as opposed to propaganda would be the goal.Even commercial messages are required by law to be based on truth, but not news articles. Some newspapers are taking gross and unfair advantage of the lack of truth requirements, and are feeding the public lies and propaganda. This is hurting the American public. Now, as to your jumping to conclusions about out lawing sites and me not liking something, your conclusions are all… Read more »

just who do these guys think are our soldiers and police? I tell who those guys are: Regular Americans. So what’s the big deal with the rest of us “regular Americans” owning the same?

HMLa-167 Warrior

You haven’t dealt with the military recently have you? Many are regular Ameircans. Many are foreign nationals who are granted immediate citizenship for joining the reserves. Yep. The reserves will get you citizenship. Many are not intelligent enough to recognize an unlawful order and will just do what they are told. Many are mentally unstable before they are in a combat zone and get PTSD. I recently asked a young combat Vet while we were sitting at the VA, with 8 years of service as a Captain in the US Army Infantry, with several tours down range in Afghanistan, “how… Read more »

People are tired of newspapers that editorialize in an unfair and unbalanced manner. Look at all the newspapers around the country that no longer exist. People in the newspaper business blame technology and the internet for declining circulation when, in all probability, people are just tired of reading Leftist lies. RIP WaPO!

ArtP

No, idiot> you were sued because you took unlawful actions and colluded with public officials who took unlawful advantage of their positions to take unlawful actions against an “ordinary citizen” who was in full compliance with the law.

The 2d Amendment prevents obummer from starting a lib/dem coup. 2d amendment keeps the radical left in the sewers and under rocks where they belong.

And please don’t forget, once the second amendment is gone, the others will soon follow.

Kentucky rifles were in almost every American home in the mid 1700’s, as defensive weapon, but also for food. It became a “military grade weapon” when the British tried (unsuccessfully) to confiscate them. It was a defensive weapon until the ruling class decided to remove property from it’s rightful owners. Didn’t turn out so well for those poor British soldiers who were “just following orders”. Expect the same results next time confiscation and regulation is tried to remove property from it’s owners.

Amen Mitch!

HMLA-167 Warrior

Ever heard of Huricane Katrina? Marshal law was declared and weapons were confiscated under the guise of “wellness checks”… which turned out to be armed raids into each home to remove all weapons while shoving… wait for it… AR15/M4s in the residents’ faces. Much of which occurred in the suburbs which where not affected by the flooding. Left a lot of people defenseless to looters, etc. Not a single person defended their right to bear arms that I am aware of. Instead they sat on their curbs with their hands zip tied behind their backs – like criminals. It is… Read more »

You are incorrect. In NY and CT roughly 4% of the affected rifles were registered. That means 96% of the owners said pizz off. I see CT owners quite a bit, they bring their rifles to RI to shoot them without getting hassled. But they also told me they still shoot them in CT, they just do so at ranges that purposely look the other way or on private land. They can also buy standard capacity mags here and ammo without being hassled. CT and NY suck. MA is very restrictive but they do allow most everything with the correct… Read more »

CT is insane. The CT SP are ‘supposed to go house to house and demand that all illegal weapons be turned in. AR’s are on the top of the list. Fortunately, the SP are smart enuf to think they couldn’t get away with it alive. A friend of mine (recently retired military spec ops) came home from deployment in Afghanistan to find that he is now a felon for owning ‘assault’ weapons which were outlawed while he was deployed. He was unaware of the law to ‘turn em in’ while overseas by the deadline of Jan 30, 2013. He will… Read more »

“Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretense, raised in the United States. A military force, at the command of Congress, can execute no laws, but such as the people perceive to be just and constitutional; for they will possess the power, and jealousy will instantly inspire the inclination, to… Read more »

Yet how many unjust and oppressive laws do we the people already tolerate? Far too many. And I would venture to say that is because when the dust settles we still can drive to the store and buy food, clothing, movie tickets, and go to DisneyWorld. Once those start to become unobtainable, the people may then stand firm in their opposition to oppressive and unjust laws. But until then we will simply watch our rights get slowly chipped away ever so slowly and let normalcy bias dictate that all will continue to be okay in the end. So, instead of… Read more »

@HMLA-167 Warrior: as someone that lives in the PSRK (Peoples Socialist Republic of Kommiecticut) let me explain something to you. Those photos you saw of the cowards lined up at the PSRK Public Safety Complex at the last minute to register firearms and magazines, were a very small minority. We are at 85% non-compliance statewide. I have personally been proudly non-compliant since the first so-called state “assault weapons” ban in 1994.
