Sacramento, CA -(AmmoLand.com)- The last bill of “Gunpocalypse” has arrived at California Governor Jerry Brown’s desk and will be law in less than a week – unless we act now and flood the Governor’s phone and email demanding he veto this ridiculous proposed law… like he did in 2014.

Assemblymember Jim Cooper’s AB 857, which is literally a rerun of 2014’s vetoed SB 808, seeks to reduce “gun violence” by forcing everyone who owns an unserialized gun to engrave a serial number on it.

This, according to his logic, will reduce the number of criminals who use guns.

Apparently he believes that placing a serial number on a collectible firearm will stop crime.

Cooper, who served as a Captain in the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, should know better. After 30 years of law enforcement experience he should know that criminals don’t follow the law!

And they certainly won’t let a silly law about serial numbers on a firearm stand in their way.

DEMAND GOVERNOR BROWN VETO AB 857

The Governor realized this bill would do nothing to keep Californians safer when he vetoed the same exact language in 2014.

In issuing his veto statement of SB 808, which contained the same exact language as this bill, Governor Brown stated:

“I appreciate the author’s concerns about gun violence, but I can’t see how adding a serial number to a homemade gun would significantly advance public safety.”

Instead of listening to that logic, Cooper now wants to turn otherwise law-abiding people into criminals if they refuse to deface their collectible, heirloom firearms.

DEMAND GOVERNOR BROWN VETO AB 857

This is utter insanity – and it is coming from a guy who promised during his losing bid for Sacramento County Sheriff that CCW licenses would be more abundant under his leadership.

Thankfully, the voters didn’t buy into his two-faced scheme then. Now we need to convince the Governor to not buy into it either.

Demand that Governor Brown veto AB 857 and send Cooper packing.

Sign the petition and call Governor Brown at 916-445-2841 to demand that he veto SB 874 just as he did when it was SB 808 in 2014.
