Hazleton Outguns North Scott In Shoot-Off for Varsity Trap Title at SCTP Nationals

Columbus, OH -(AmmoLand.com)- Following a 977 target tie during regular competition, the Cougars of Hazleton Area High School (H.A.H.S.) outgunned the North Scott Trap Team to win the Trap Varsity Division title at the 2016 Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) National Team Championships in Ohio.

H.A.H.S., out of Pennsylvania, was led by John T. Cibulish and Thomas Fuccile, both of Conygham, and Patrick Darrough of Drums who each broke 196 of their 200 targets. Not far behind were Brian Siroka of West Hazleton with 195 and Paige Thomas of Conygham with 194.

Held July 9-16 at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio, nearly 2,200 athletes representing 28 states faced more than 961,000 clay targets during eight days of competition in the shooting disciplines of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays.

The North Scott Trap Team from Iowa was equally consistent from the 16-yard line where Drew Bjustrom of Eldridge led with 198, followed by Eric Long of Davenport with 197, Andrew Troje of Donahue with 196, Kyle Coomer of De Witt with 196 and Michael Mohr of Long Grove with 194.

Third place in the division went to the Golden Eagle squad from Illinois with 974 targets. Golden Eagle was led b a pair of shooters, Tony Rose of Golden Eagle and Lucas Long of Hardin, who each broke 198. Zach Hurley and Lucas Eberlin of Hardin finished with 194 and 193, while Keaton Rose of Golden Eagle added 191.

Wisconsin’s Central Falcons took fourth with 972. Hunter Conrad of Bristol was the squad’s top shooter with 197, followed by Evan Wisniewski of Pleasant Prairie with 195, John Dietz of Kenosha and Dustin Hucker of Salem, each with 194, and Matthew Perona of Bristol with 192.

Rounding out the top five in the division were the Gateway Claybusters from Missouri, also with 972 targets shot in regulation. Will Nelgner of Saint Charles led with 198, followed by Zach Smith of St Charles with 197, Tom Browne of Wentzville with 196, Olivia Stecker of Foristell with 195 and Zachary Muschany of Defiance with 186.

The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) is a youth development program in which adult coaches and other volunteers use the shooting sports of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays, as well as the Olympic disciplines of Bunker Trap, Trap Doubles and International Skeet to teach and to demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills. Nationally, there are nearly 13,700 students and more than 2,900 coaches from 43 states participating in the Scholastic Clay Target Program.

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. (SSSF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the National Governing Body for the Scholastic Clay Target Program. SCTP was started by the National Shooting Sports Foundation in 2001.
