USA – It has been a busy month for the American Suppressor Association (ASA). We are currently tracking four pro-suppressor bills at the state level, with more to come.

Here is a quick overview:

Connecticut: H 6336, introduced on January 23rd by Rep. Rick Lopes would authorize the use of suppressors for hunting in Connecticut, one of two states that remain where ownership is legal but hunting is not (the other is Vermont). The bill has been referred to the Joint Committee on Environment.

Hawaii: House Bill 1589, sponsored by Representatives Sharon Har (D-42), Ryan Yamane (D-37), Richard Creagan (D-5), Lynn DeCoite (D-13), Ken Ito (D-49), Sam Kong (D-33), Angus McKelvey (D-10), Marcus Oshiro (D-46), Calvin Say (D-20) and James Tokioka (D-15), would make Hawaii the 43rd state to legalize the ownership of suppressors and the 41st state to legalize hunting with suppressors. The bill was introduced on January 25th and has been referred to committee.

Illinois: The committee hearing for SB 50 originally scheduled for January 23rd has been postponed. ASA President, Knox Williams, was in Springfield last week working to keep this bill moving forward. As soon as we have information on when the bill will be heard in committee we will send out legislative alerts.

Massachusetts: HD 1300 a bill to legalize private ownership of suppressors has been prefiled by Rep. Josh Cutler. More details to follow as they become available.

Of course, we are continuing to look for opportunities to introduce legislation in the other remaining states that have not yet legalized civilian ownership of suppressors (California, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island).

ASA Staff are in Washington, DC this week holding meetings with our partner organizations (CSF, NRA, NSSF, and others) to coordinate on H.R. 367 The Duncan-Carter Hearing Protection Act of 2017 (HPA). ASA President Knox Williams, was on Capitol Hill today to meet with legislators and their staff to further discuss strategy on the HPA. We are urging folks to contact their legislators through the convenient form on our website and at HearingProtectionAct.com to show your support for the bill. The HPA continues to be one of the most viewed bills in Congress on a weekly basis according to Congress.gov statistics.

Pass that act (HPA)!

Fb

California would be the largest accomplishment.
Even if the 2017 hearing act passed, it would still be illegal.
The slogan no state left behind is great. I plan to join.

Gregory Romeu

Why don’t you guys just start removing those idiots from office for violating your rights and also violating their oath of office by violating your rights?

Don’t wait to vote them out of office just have them investigated through grand jury for Willful Neglect of Statutory Duty? Any elected or appointed official holding an office can not hold that office if they’re committing crimes but it takes the citizens to realize that and have them removed for such?

fb

Not that easy when the majority are the blue pill. We only have 14 out of 53 representatives that are republican.

Please keep up the good work. But could you work at the national level because the socialists running California will never vote for this. A federal law mandating suppressors as acceptable and not regulated would stop them cold.
