USA -(Ammoland.com)- The 2017 – 2018 Minnesota Legislative Biennium starts today at 12 p.m. when the members of both chambers take their oath of office and officially begin their terms.

For the first time in four years, we have a solidly pro-Second Amendment legislature in both houses.

  • In the House, A+ rated Speaker Kurt Daudt enters 2017 with an expanded pro-Second Amendment majority.
  • In the Senate, new A rated Majority Leader Paul Gazelka enters 2017 with a new pro-Second Amendment majority.

Minnesota’s 2.5 million law-abiding gun owners, and particularly members and supporters of the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus like you, helped to put them there.

In huge numbers, Minnesota gun owners volunteered for campaigns, door knocked, dropped literature, donated money, and encouraged their friends and neighbors to come out and vote for legislators that would respect, protect, and advance our constitutional rights in Saint Paul.

We fought for strong pro-Second Amendment legislators because we were tired of heinous gun control legislation being pushed by anti-gun metro DFL leadership.

We fought for strong pro-Second Amendment legislators because we wanted to see substantive pro-Second Amendment legislation passed into law, such as reforming Minnesota’s self-defense laws, the end of begging government permission to exercise a constitutional right (constitutional carry), and an end to reciprocity games by Governor Dayton and the MN Department of Public Safety, and more.

On day one of this new legislature session, it’s time to reach out to your legislators, new and old, and let them know where you stand on moving forward with substantive pro-Second Amendment legislation this year.

  • Call your State Representative: Let them know that you expect to see action in 2017 on substantive pro-Second Amendment legislation like constitutional carry, self-defense law reform, and fixing the reciprocity mess. Ask them where they stand.
  • Follow-up with a brief e-mail to your State Representative: After your phone call, follow-up with a brief e-mail outlining your position. Ask them where they stand.
  • Call your State Senator: Just as above with your State Representative, let them know that you expect to see action in 2017 on substantive pro-Second Amendment legislation like constitutional carry, self-defense law reform, and fixing the reciprocity mess. Ask them where they stand.
  • Follow-up with a brief e-mail to your state Senator: After your phone call, follow-up with a brief e-mail outlining your position. Ask them where they stand.

Let us know what you hear: If you hear back from your State Senator or Representative, let us know where they stand by dropping an e-mail to [email protected].

If you need to lookup your State Representative or State Senator’s contact information, you can do so at the Minnesota Legislature website.

We’ll have further actions for you to take to set the stage for 2017 later today.

You can also keep up with Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus on Twitter or Facebook.

Thanks for your ongoing support –
