USA – -(Ammoland.com)- A Settlement Has Been Proposed in an Economic Loss Lawsuit that Alleges Safety Defects. You may be eligible to have your firearm retrofitted or receive other benefits

Recently, a federal judge ordered the parties in an economic-loss class action to remind owners of certain Remington firearms that a settlement has been reached.

The settlement involves two classes.

  • The first class includes owners of firearms that utilize a trigger connector.
  • The second class includes owners of firearms that utilize the X-Mark Pro trigger mechanism that is the subject of a voluntary safety recall.

The settlement allows owners of Remington models 700, Seven, and related models to have their trigger replaced free of charge, among other benefits.

The settlement was entered following allegations that Remington firearms can fire without a trigger pull. Remington denies those allegations with respect to the trigger connector but is offering trigger replacements to ensure continued satisfaction for its valuable customers.

With respect to X-Mark Pro trigger mechanisms, Remington has implemented a voluntary safety recall. If you own a firearm that is subject to the safety recall, stop using your firearm immediately. Safety has always been a priority for Remington.

Even if you do nothing you will be bound by the Court’s decisions. If you want to keep your right to sue the Defendants yourself, you must exclude yourself from the Settlement Class by November 18, 2016.

If you stay in the Settlement Class, you may object to the Settlement by November 18, 2016.

1/27/17 I purchased a New 700-260 Rem. in mid 2016. Mounted a scope and loaded up some 130 gr. ammo (Factory loads not available at that time), and went to range. After firing 6 rounds without getting on paper @ 50 yds., I quit and went to the Gun Shop I worked in for 21 years to really diagnose the problem. Found the barrel had been cross threaded into the action to the left. Called Remington and they gave me a repair number to ship to a Sub Contractor Shop. After 3 months with no answers, called them and told… Read more »

I went to their recall website ( https://xmprecall.remington.com/), filled out the form, received a shipping box with labels then mailed my 700 back to Remington for the new trigger. It was a simple and painless event. I was a little disappointed it took several months to be returned but chalked it up to demand. The site now has lead time on it where it didn’t before. No matter the reason why, unintentional (not accidental) discharges sometimes happen. That’s why we never point a gun at something we are not willing to destroy. Knock wood, at 53 I’ve never had an… Read more »

I have my first bolt gun, a 700 in 30-06 that I got for college graduation in 1969. My go-to gun when I need to grab & go. I had an AD with it about 28 years ago. Scared the crap outta me & family, all present. Fortunately I know to keep muzzle up. I had set it to about 2 lbs. Much later I saw the “news” mockumentary, so thought to try what they were showing. About half the time it would fire when releasing the safety. I set it a bit tighter and really hammered it to see… Read more »

I had one of my 3 Remington 700’s involved in this recall. After 2 months of being ignored, calls not answered and emails not responded to I went out and bought a Timney trigger and replaced it myself. I never expected to get such poor service from them but I guess some companies are too big to care. I’ve purchased my last Remington product.

I like my 50 year old M 700’s with their original triggers just fine thank you! Unless you know what you’re doing, keep your screwdrivers out of the trigger assembly and you’ll be fine too. Every other firearm I’ve ever bought needed trigger work to get it to function like my 700’s did right out of the box. This case is a result of plaintiffs unwillingness to accept responsibility for their own actions, and lawyers willing to profit by the errors of the plaintiffs.
