USA -(Ammoland.com)- Have you ever heard of a “guntry club?” If not, a warning: your average country club will never be the same.

A gun country club, or “guntry club” for short, is a luxury shooting club that offers a unique shooting experience to all participants.

The term country club may conjure images of fine dining, expensive cigars, leather couches, manicured golf courses and sparkling pools. Conversely, gun culture could inspire thoughts of dark and cold ranges, dusty or muddy outdoor environments or even loud, brash and unforgiving crowds.

Now imagine if you were to combine the best of those two worlds. If this sounds like your cup of tea, this dream has become a reality by way of guntry clubs.

Guests and members are allowed to shoot at these top-notch ranges with cutting-edge technology that makes getting into the sport that much easier.

Prepare to learn the fun and excitement of the shooting lifestyle with all the comfort and amenities of an upscale country club.

Yes, this is real life.

What sets a ‘guntry club’ apart from a gun range?

The guntry club industry is still young. Currently, there are roughly a dozen upscale firearm clubs across the country that provide a service and atmosphere like no other.

You will often have a wide selection of premium ranges organized for particular types of practice, an ammo concierge, a firearm and ammo sales counter and premium apparel for sale, among other services.
When you’re done shooting for the day you can enjoy VIP lounges filled with fine dining, craft beers, cigars, fine wines and fully staffed coffee stands. While this sounds luxurious, gun safety always comes first, so you will always shoot first, then enjoy wine and dinner later.

How do they work?

Whether you are a new shooter or are a lifelong veteran, guntry clubs are a comfortable place for you to enjoy shooting. It is a positive environment where you will feel encouraged every step of the way, and professionals will be there to help guide you along your journey.

When you arrive you will be greeted by a concierge who will “fit” you with the firearm that best suits you based on what is available for rent. This provides a unique opportunity to try out new firearms if you are in the market. Many facilities allow members to store their personal firearms in a designated gun safe on site.

From there, you’ll have more options than you can imagine. For example, Frisco Gun Club in Texas offers 36 pistol lanes, four rifle lanes, a huge sales floor and a multitude of course options. Once the staff gets you set up with a firearm, they will help choose the range best suited for you based on your needs.

How much do they cost?

Newcomers need not worry about memberships right away. You can buy range time just like you would at any other range. Single-day entry fees vary from club to club. If you do want to take the next step, memberships provide even more options.

Each guntry club is unique, with differences in costs, amenities and offerings. Fees range anywhere from $35 a month memberships and hourly rates of $20 all the way to $7,500 annual memberships with $200 monthly dues.

Time for an upgrade to your regular range days? Need a swanky way to learn a new sport? Try guntry clubs!

Ours is $30 a month and short of the booze it is as described. We have about 40 pistols to choose from about 10 different long guns including some shotguns and both rifle and pistol ranges separated from each other so the shooters don’t intermix. The pistol rages are 50 feet the rifle ranges are 50 yards. WE have no hourly charges yet the monthly fee covers the costs but we are talking about adding some cost for the guys who use as opposed to the rest who just belong (repair costs of missed rounds is STEEP) The dimwits shoot… Read more »

Well said, Wild Bill! I admit that I was thinking negatively, myself, as I was reading the article… $7500 A YEAR MEMBERSHIP AND $200 A MONTH DUES!! I work for a living; I could never afford that, nor would want to. But, your sage advice makes good sense. There is a time, a place, and a good reason for everything. We’re lucky to live in a country that embraces opportunity for all. It’s up to us and our mental attitudes on how we go about approaching those opportunities that may present a challenge and are outside our normal comfort zone.… Read more »

Sporting Clays may be the next golf.

@Yardbird, Boy Howdy, I sure hope so! And @ Jon, I am looking forward to it!

The Frisco Gun Club is not restricted to “members only”. Reasonable daily range fees allow one to shoot in well lit, comfortable surroundings. And, in addition to the restaurant, they have a nice snack bar – with reasonable fare. A perfect place for family shooting activities. One more thing, the club is closed on Mondays, and a local IDPA/USPSA club holds matches twice a month utilizing 3 of the pistol ranges. Texas weather does have it’s variances – we shot last year in a hail storm. But, it was warm and toasty in the club. For info check the club… Read more »

I have also shot at least once a week in Frisco. I find the staff engaging and willing to assist new shooters as well as more experienced customers. It cost me no more to shoot here than in most of the other indoor facilities.

Just give me a piece of Las Vegas desert and some really cool home made targets. I can get the glam on the way home from shooting as I pass the Strip. Admission fee = ZERO!

Agreed, not for the real gun owner, but if this draws non-gun owners into the sport, who will then vote with us, I am all for it…

Absolutely agree. I live in a “liberal metro area” and would love to be able to introduce more folks to the shooting sports — and maybe help them get past the FUD that those of certain political persuasions like to spread about firearm use & ownership. But if I have to drag friends to one of the two small, dirty, 25-yd handgun-only indoor ranges that I usually go to (because they are close to work), it’s a turn-off for many people. Even the small retail shops attached to them are noisy — the ranges are right next to the retail… Read more »

Won’t see me at any of those.. Prices are nuts. Notice how the pro gun people scream, “MORE Training, More Range time..” Then tell how crazy the anti gun people are that suggest $25 per bullet. If the price of range time is outrageous, it kinda defeats the purpose of “more range time.” Seems both sides of the room needs some common sense.

deplorable me

Make the cost high enough and keep the riffraff out. Just like the old country clubs for the doctors, lawyers, congressmen & women, Senators, business and other wealthy people. I’ll do just fine with a dirt back drop some rusty clay traps and the deplorable many who love the sport.

A fool and their money are soon parted.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME. That prices most like 99% cannot afford.

Smitty

I have to agree with Clark. These appear to be elitist – only the well-moneyed need to apply. What we need are many well-designed clubs with for the rest of us.

Wild Bill

@Smitty, To me it appears that the wealthy are subsidizing the rest of us middle class people. That isn’t elitist. That is outreach. Don’t be afraid of the wealthy. For a $35 a month you can rub elbows with business people that might take a shine to you or your ideas. Don’t create a barrier between yourself and those that are in a better position than you. Most of them used to be where you are now. When I went from enlisted to officer, I had a lot of difficulty not being nervous around commanders and other field grade officers… Read more »

I am retired and thus on a fixed income. The only people I need to ‘rub elbows’ with is Abraham Lincoln and Alexander Hamilton. Nice try; no cigar.

Smitty

Wild Bill, I too am retired and not in need of finding mentors. Your analogy of your experience in the service, although a good one, does not apply here – certainly not for me. You make it sound as though they’d give me a scholarship/discount just so they could have the opportunity to experience the benevolence that comes from permitting me to be in their company. I think not. I am fortunate that I am a member of a fantastic range that is reasonably priced and therefore far less exclusive. Working folks and wealthy come together to enjoy shooting at… Read more »

I live 3 miles from Lock n Load in Miami. It is nothing like you describe. It is a place for tourists (who own no guns) to rent and shoot a fully automatic for a few minutes. They don’t want real gun owners to bring their own guns and shoot. It is like Disney World. I’ve put thousands of rounds down range the last five years and not one was as Lock n Load. Again, it is literally within walking distance of where I live. I drive 20 miles to a real gun range designed for shooters who at least… Read more »

Sorry, but I am far more interested in many more ‘Costco’ type gun clubs than a few ‘guntry’ clubs that only a few can afford.
