title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Scorpyd Crossbows is proud to introduce the Scorpyd Ventilator for 2012.

The Ventilator will come with many innovations only found on Scorpyd Crossbows.

Crossbow hunters looking for a compact powerhouse will be pleased to know the new Ventilator is only 19.5 inches wide, axle to axle, and only 12.75 inches wide when cocked which makes this crossbow easy to maneuver in a treestand or the tight quarters often found in a pop-up ground blind.

The Ventilator is a mere 35.75 inches long and comes with a folding stock which makes cocking the crossbow easier in the seated position.

In addition to being more compact than previous Scorpyd models, the Ventilator is lightweight thanks to a vented barrel and a lightweight forged riser. The Ventilator tips the scales at 7.9 pounds.

The solid limb Ventilator is built with top notch components including Barnsdale limbs which are considered some of the toughest, longest-lasting limbs in the archery industry.

The Ventilator will be available in draw weights up to 165 pounds, producing 150 pounds of kinetic energy and will throw an arrow up to an incredible 400 FPS.

Like all Scorpyd crossbows, the Ventilator comes with reverse draw limbs which has a generous power stroke of 18.75 inches thus producing more kinetic energy with less draw weight than other crossbows. As a result, the Ventilator is extremely quiet when shot because large amounts of weight aren’t needed to produce extreme speeds. The Ventilator also comes with a light three pound trigger.

“Crossbow enthusiasts will surely be pleased with our new Ventilator,” Said Jim Kempf of Scorpyd Crossbows. “This bow is super fast, extra quiet, compact and lightweight, everything a hunter is looking for in a crossbow.”

The Ventilator will retail for $1349.

Find out more about the complete line of Scorpyd Crossbows by visiting Ammoland.com)- Pennsylvania Game Commission officials are encouraging all schools participating in the National Archery in the Schools (NASP) to register for Pennsylvania’s 2012 NASP State Tournament, which will be held on Friday, March 9, at the Penn State Multi-Sport Facility in University Park, Centre County.

While there is no fee to register, registration opens on Friday, Jan. 27, and closes on Monday, Feb. 17. Registration can be done through the NASP link in the “Education” tab of on the Game Commission’s homepage (www.pgc.state.pa.us), or directly through the NASP Tournament website (www.nasptournaments.org).

NASP helps school districts in Pennsylvania meet physical education curriculum requirements of the state Department of Education, while at the same time introducing them to the world of competitive archery.

Last year, more than 350 students from a dozen school districts participated in the NASP state competition. This year, event organizers are expecting nearly 600 students from even more school districts.

“In addition to offering students a state archery championship for teams and individuals to compete for honors and trophies, the Game Commission is working with various partners to provide tournament participants and spectators the opportunity to visit a host of vendors, from archery equipment suppliers to wildlife exhibits from Shaver’s Creek,” said Samantha Pedder, who is the Game Commission outreach coordinator and state-level administrator for NASP.

Started in Kentucky, in 2002, NASP has spread throughout the United States, and is now reaching around the world, and includes nearly nine million participating students. There are 8,800 schools participating in NASP in 47 states, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Tournaments are held at the state, national and international levels. The 2011 national competition was held in Louisville, Kentucky; and the international event was held at Walt Disney World’s ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida.

NASP came to Pennsylvania in 2005. In mid-2010, the Game Commission began coordinating the program and has grown the program by working with 40 different school districts to get NSAP up and running in their schools.

For more information on NASP, visit www.archeryintheschools.org. class="wp-caption-text">Anthony P. Mauro, Sr

Not too long ago the prevailing wisdom of American surgeons was to prescribe bed confinement for most surgery patients.

It was ultimately discovered that the prescription of bed confinement not only caused life threatening complications it also delayed the physical recovery of patients.

The medical community soon replaced a “passive management” approach with treatments of early ambulation. As a result patient outcomes improved markedly.

Similar to the experience of American surgeons, there are some who have prescribed “passive management” for our forests over many decades and the effect has been equally injurious to forest health. The prevailing thought has kept woodlands from being managed by both humans and Mother Nature. We have learned that “passive management” is conspiring against forest health through degradation by aiding invasive plants and insects, and other wildlife to overtake forests.

Mother Nature manages forest health by making use of fire, wind, disease, insects, and other forces. Judicious doses of forest destruction are her way of regenerating forests and guaranteeing sustainability. Destruction and regeneration are performed in varying areas and at differing levels and intervals, which provides forest age classes that are well distributed. This in turn creates biodiversity – a foundation for forest vigor and the health of dependent flora and fauna.

Efficient disturbance created by fire, wind, disease, and insects not only provides for the long-term well-being of the forest and its dependent plant and wildlife communities but also reduces the susceptibility of the landscape, as a whole, to catastrophic damage. Disturbance is as crucial to forest health as early ambulation is to surgery patient health.

Although it appears counterintuitive, when humans prevent Mother Nature from managing forests by suppressing her natural forces we act to compromise her immune system. Passive management creates severe imbalances in the ecosystem, which allows insects, disease and deer, to intensify beyond the ability of nature to manage these forces efficiently. It causes overstocking of bio-fuels. The result is forest susceptibility to massive insect and disease outbreaks, devastating crown fires, and increased vulnerability to wind.

The evidence of a compromised immune system in New Jersey forests is found in overpopulations of deer preventing forest development by browsing seedlings and saplings, and ruinous infestation to the Pinelands by the southern pine beetle.

In the Highlands the hemlock woolly adelgid has infested eastern hemlock forest trees. Also, gypsy moths have caused defoliation, with oak forest types being the most affected. Over the years continued defoliation has made trees susceptible to insects and diseases that can eventually cause their death from other agents. As a consequence there might be a reduction of the larger mature oak species in certain areas.

The remedy for woodland restoration is in pending legislation. Bills A1954/A4358 provide for a forest harvest program on State-owned land. For nearly three years the New Jersey Outdoor Alliance, New Jersey Forestry Association, New Jersey Audubon Society, New Jersey Farm Bureau, and Department of Environmental Protection have worked with legislative leadership provided by Senator Robert Smith and Assemblyman John McKeon to create a template for a forest harvest program. The result of this effort is also supported by the New Jersey Division Society of American Foresters and the New Jersey Tree Farm Program. Additionally, scores of forestry professionals and Ph.Ds. in the fields of wildlife ecology, forest biology, natural resource management, and agriculture have endorsed the legislation.

The bills provide a means to facilitate natural processes through forestry practices. These intentional, human-induced activities can initiate the recovery of ecosystem health, integrity, and sustainability. If we are going to continue to prevent Mother Nature from freely using her methods to manage forests it is our obligation to safely and responsibly replicate her formulas.

Bills S1954/A4358 legislate a Forest Stewardship Plan using environmental health standards as the basis for forest regeneration – it does not rely on economic standards. The Department of Environmental Protection and forestry professionals determine the types of methods needed to replicate those used by Mother Nature for purposes of environmental health.

Approval for forestry projects requires that water quality, soil erosion, and threatened and endangered species be considered before authorization is granted, and a Forest Stewardship Plan must be in place before any cutting is initiated. By-products can be sold and the revenue put into an account created by legislation that is used to finance continued forest stewardship practices. This approach treats each forest individually but takes into consideration its place as part of the overall environment.

The lack of forest management and fragmentation in New Jersey are partially to blame for the extirpation of several animals. At the same time we prioritized the recovery of the bald eagle we ignored the needs of animals such as bobwhite quail, red-headed woodpecker, ruffed grouse, pheasant, and more. We have prevented forest disturbance and as a result the integrity of the habitat needed for these species to survive has been severely compromised.

Some special interest groups have misrepresented bills S1954/A4358 as logging and distribution legislation. Their portrayal is not only untrue but unwittingly takes advantage of people’s lack of knowledge of forest biology and the specifics of the legislation, and plays on prejudices that enlist them as advocates of the status quo – a campaign that facilitates environmental damage.

S1954/A4358 provides a means to restore forest health and provides a source to fund the undertaking. The citizens of New Jersey are stakeholders in this matter and they deserve intellectual honesty and rational arguments as the basis for making informed decisions. Forests are critical to sustaining life on earth and we are therefore obligated to woodland stewardship.
<div

The Sidekick attaches and detaches to your Bino System in less than a minute, keeping your rangefinder handy to range distance undetected.

The Sidekick works for most compact hand-held rangefinders with a holster pocket size of 3”W x 1.5”D. Designed with Crooked Horn’s own patented quick-release buckle, the rangefinder easily connects to a 1.5” strap allowing it to slide up easily when in use, but with little movement in the field. With a small elastic sleeve covering the buckle it reduces any noise made from objects touching one another.

The RF Hook Up allows you to quickly and silently, glass, range and shoot…all in one streamline movement. The Head-Loc quiver works to virtually eliminate noise and vibration with its unique state-of-the-art mounting system.

The quiver features rubber compression technology that acts as an isolator between the quiver and the bow, which greatly reduces any noise and vibration.

The Head-Loc also has an Exo-Flex hood, which is extremely quiet, lightweight, and also has superior noise and vibration absorbing properties over traditional plastic quivers. The over-all low-profile design allows the quiver to sit close to the bow, improving shot balance, and reducing the chances of catching branches while stalking through the woods.

The hood accepts both fixed and expandable broadheads. The quiver is carefully constructed using a power grip double spreader to hold arrows securely without deployment of mechanical broadheads.

Purchase a Head-Loc quiver and you are eligible to receive free rubberized tree mount brackets for life. You only pay $8 shipping and handling each.

Head-Loc Spec:

Head-loc Rubber compression Quiver bracket.

Fits fixed and Mechanical broadhead

Power-grip, dual gripper.

Exo-flex Hood, quiet and absorbs vibration and reduces noise.

Holds 6 arrows.

Secondary Lever lock down.

Adjustable mount for customizing fit.

Tree mounting bracket included.

About G5 Outdoors <br

The products are well designed, thoughtful, and built for the hunt. We look forward to exposing a hungry, growing group of consumers to the pioneers of the crossbow industry!”

Barnett has exploded as a brand capturing more and more market share thanks to their tenacious, never-settle attitude for success. This attitude and the attitude of the team at Source Outdoor Group make a perfect marriage for the continued growth of the Barnett Brand.

Source Outdoor Group is founded on the principle that creativity is paramount to building successful marketing strategies. They believe consumers relationships with brands have profoundly changed and marketing strategies and philosophies must change or brands become stagnant and eventually lose their edge and appeal. Source focuses on developing BIG ideas to ensure differentiation in the “sea of products” and critical brand loyalty. Director of Marketing, Shelly Moore comments, “Unless you have an unlimited ad budget, which is a rarity, you can’t win on frequency alone. The message must generate top-of-mind awareness, clarity in value proposition, and a positive return on investment generated from sales.” Moore continues, “The formula is simple, make a product your customers want, listen to what your customers say, make sure it outperforms expectations, make it in the USA with American ingenuity, control quality, and price it where it is affordable and an unexpected value.” The last step in the formula is adding the marketing expertise to tell the story and Source will make sure this happens.

Barnett Crossbows is the world’s number one manufacturer of crossbows. Thanks to break-through innovations, combined with pioneering patents year after year, Barnett builds bows better, faster, stronger, and more cost effective than the competition.

For additional information visit BarnettCrossBows.com or call 727.234.4999. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Gorilla, Inc. a leading manufacturer of performance treestands and accessories, announces the introduction of the new G-Series (G30 and G20) safety harnesses.

The G30 and G20 safety harnesses feature more all-season comfort, adjustable easy-on and easy-off fit, with complete 360-degree range of movement.

The G20 safety harness is designed for hunters who desire an affordable harness without sacrificing the quality or comfort of the popular G30.

Even when properly wearing a full body safety harness certified to TMA standards, the force a user experiences during a fall can be significant. That is why the design team at Gorilla developed the Energy Absorbing System (E.A.S.) tethers for the G30 and G20 safety harnesses. G-series E.A.S. tethers reduce the felt fall force by nearly 40% compared to the leading competitor’s tether.

The new Gorilla G-Series will change the way you think about treestand safety harnesses. The adjustable form-fitting design goes on so easily – you’ll be suited up in seconds. Lightweight and breathable, the G-Series gives you a custom fit with maximum range of motion for all-season comfort and freedom.

NEW G30 Safety Harness:
The G30 safety harness is extremely lightweight at only 3.6 pounds and breathable. The arched back style has a waist belt-free design for a more comfortable fit that goes on in seconds. And, you’ll never miss the opportunity for a shot with its extra long tether for full 360o range of motion. The G30 safety harness also features comfortable padded shoulder straps and backrest for all day comfort.

NEW G20 Safety Harness:
National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) World Tournament.

The three-day competition included students in grades 4 thru 12 from 28 states, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa.

Michigan student Emily Bee, a Hartland High School sophomore, emerged from the tournament a world champion archer. Bee scored 292 out of a possible 300 points earning first place in the female division and a NASP World Tournament title.

“When my name was called, I couldn’t believe it, I’m still in shock that I’m first in the world,” Bee said. Bee won more than $4,000 in scholarships, two new bows and a target, among other honors. Hartland also did well as a team, finishing fourth overall and only 15 points from first place.

“The Hartland archery program is an excellent representation of the Department of Natural Resources’ Archery in the Schools Program,” said Mary Emmons, DNR Archery Education coordinator. “Under Hartland Coach Rob Jellison’s direction, the school’s archery team has acquired seven state championships, two top five finishes at worlds, one national champion and one world record since the program started in 2007.”

DNR Director Rodney Stokes honored Bee at a recent Natural Resources Commission meeting for her world record achievement by presenting her with a plaque and a letter from Michigan Governor Rick Snyder.

“There is no doubt in my mind that archery is a challenging sport, both physically and mentally, but you can truly get children of every age, size, and athletic ability shooting arrows safely down range,” said Jellison, “I love seeing some of my star athletes from other sports shooting on the same team as students who have never been on a ‘team’ until archery.”

The DNR Archery in the Schools introduces international-style target archery to students in 4th through 12th grade physical education classes. The in-school curriculum’s core content covers archery history, safety, technique, equipment, mental concentration and self-improvement. To date, more than 500 schools across Michigan have implemented the program.

The DNR offers free archery certification classes for teachers. Additionally, archery equipment grants are available to schools, both public and private, that enroll in the Archery in the Schools program.

For more information on Archery in the Schools, contact Mary Emmons at 517-241-9477 or by email at emmonsm@michigan.gov. Information also is available online at www.michigan.gov/archery.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state’s natural and cultural resources for current and future generations. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Goat Tuff’s Equalizer Release Aid created quite a stir when it was released to the public in 2011.

And of course it would as it was the first and only release aid that helped archers increase arrow speed without increasing draw weight.

It was designed originally for short draw archers and those archers who, due to age or injury, had to shoot less poundage thereby compromising performance. It works because the archer can increase draw length from 1 to 3”.

Tests showed, on average, archers gained 10 fps for each 1” increase in draw length.

Well the word got out and more an more standard archers wanted the Equalizer because they were also able to increase arrow speed without having to increase poundage.

For 2012 Goat Tuff’s Ric Clark made more improvements to the Equalizer. These are attached and I hope you will share this with your audience. Visit: www.goattuffproducts.com
Tags: Ammoland.com)- The next training session for instructors of the West Virginia Archery in the Schools (AIS) Program has been scheduled for Feb. 22 – 23 at Cacapon Resort State Park, according to Krista Snodgrass, Program Coordinator. The training will be hosted by the Wildlife Resources Section of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (DNR).

“We are very excited to be holding our next training at Cacapon in West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle,” said Snodgrass. “When possible, we like to provide trainings at our state parks and Cacapon is a perfect venue for PE teachers, coaches, and others wanting to get their school involved in the AIS Program.”

The AIS Program has become the DNR’s largest-growing educational program. Since its inception in 2004, nearly 60,000 students have been introduced to archery as part of their physical education (PE) classes in 238 West Virginia schools. The program teaches Olympic-style, target archery in both public and private schools Grades 4 through 12.

“In order for schools to participate in the AIS Program, they must first have a certified instructor – preferably a PE instructor or coach who will introduce as many kids as possible to the joys of target archery,” said Snodgrass.

“The DNR only has about four trainings a year and, because class size is limited to 25, training slots are highly sought after. As an added incentive, teachers taking this training may be eligible to receive Continuing Education Hours (CEH’s) provided they submit their paperwork to their principal before the end of the school year.”

To ensure a training slot, anyone interested in getting their school involved in the program is encouraged to apply as soon as possible. The deadline to register is Feb. 1. This training will cost $25 for all school employees and $50 for non-school employees. This fee will be paid to WVDNR – Archery in the Schools Program (via check, money order or exact currency only) during the first morning of the training.

To register for the AIS training at Cacapon Resort State Park, please call Krista Snodgrass at 304-558-2771; email Krista.R.Snodgrass@wv.gov for information on the AIS Program, or visit the DNR’s AIS website at www.wvdnr.gov/archery. Set your 20-yard pin just like you would on any other sight, and then micro-adjust your Retina Lock to align with your eye while your anchor point and hold are perfect. Every shot after that will provide instant feedback that will tell you if there is even the slightest bit of torque or change in your anchor point.

In almost no time at all, you’ll see how the IQ’s Retina Lock reinforces the proper form—no matter the angle of inclination or declination—to build confidence and to ultimately extend your effective shooting range.
<div

Weinkauf, a highly acclaimed bowhunter, hosts the videos, and he demonstrates the amazing simplicity of setting up the IQ Bowsight in the first video: youtu.be/MXsh8RUXEnM.

“Setting up the IQ bowsight can seem intimidating at first,” said Weinkauf, Field Logic’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer. “In these videos, we wanted to show just how easy it really is to set this system up.

“Within a few shots, you’ll soon see how every other sight on the market has become obsolete,” Weinkauf continued.

In addition to the YouTube video on setting up the IQ Bowsight, Field Logic has also filmed videos with useful tips on using the IQ Bowsight. They can be viewed at: youtu.be/2XdOzMtu9cc and youtu.be/bsxKHAO6ikA.

The IQ Bowsight is available in four- and seven-pin configurations in both left- and right-hand versions. class="wp-caption-text">Easton Foundation

Newberry, FL --(Ammoland.com)- Miranda Leek, an 18-year old addition to the veteran women’s U.S. Olympic Archery Team, is among the competitors leading the charge towards the 2012 Olympic Games to be held in London.

There is a sense of optimism at the 2011 Pan Am Games that has been missing around the U.S. Women’s camp in past years.

A look at Leek’s development into a standout archer is one reason why hope is so robust on the road to the 2012 Olympics.

Leek was immersed in the sport at the age of 5 when her dad, Scott Leek, took her along to the archery shop, placed a recurve in her hand, gave the basic instructions and let her shoot – planting the seeds that would eventually blossom into her current standing as the second ranked woman archer in the country.

It wasn’t long before the father- daughter target shoots turned into a competitive hobby.

“My dad decided to get me a compound bow, and just for something fun to do he started to take me to local competitions, which we both really enjoyed,” Leek says. “I discovered my competitive side, had lots of fun meeting others with similar interests and making friends. Things just took off from there, one step at a time.”

Leek’s transition from a compound bow to an Olympic-style recurve came at age 12.

“I decided to switch for two reasons,” she says. “There would be a lot more competition in the Olympic-style recurve class than in my class of compound fingers, and the recurve was something else entirely. It looked majestic, and I was fascinated by the equipment and how people shot them.”

Although enthralled with the charm of the recurve, change did not come without challenges. “Both my dad and I didn’t really know how to shoot a recurve. We were both compound archers and we didn’t have a solid understanding of what recurve form would look like. We only had ideas.”

Fortunately, professional archery coach Terry Wunderle and his son Vic, an Olympic archer himself, took Leek under their wings and were her first coaches. They provided the direction she needed to get started and involved in the Olympic-recurve scene.

Their efforts paid off. Leek shined in national youth competitions and was selected to the USA Archery’s Junior Dream Team in 2007, at the age of 14. Here, she was coached by Kisik Lee, who is still her coach today as the National Head Coach of the U.S. Olympic Archery Training Program.

“Coach Lee is really good at catching the little things,” Leek says. “It’s because of my relationship with him that I’ve been able to travel on junior teams and be introduced to what it’s like to compete internationally. He has been a big part of taking me to the big leagues.”

This stable of coaches has been anchored by Leek’s Father’s support and training. Scott Leek has been his daughter’s primary supporter and personal coach, from the day he first put a bow in her hand and every step of the way to where she is now. Scott, a shooter since childhood, has a firm understanding of the sport and passed that along to his daughter. “I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for his understanding of Coach Lee’s technique and his ability to teach me.” Leek says.

But no amount of coaching can replace an individual’s drive and motivation to become an Olympic athlete. Hard work is the basis for keeping Leek’s physical and mental skills up to par.

To train, she shoots six days a week, firing over a hundred arrows each day. In addition, she hits the gym to work on cardio and core training. If this wasn’t rigorous enough, she says she looks forward to stepping up the workload in the next year.

With a strong body comes a strong mind and Leek has also focused on this aspect of the sport.

“I think every archer will agree that archery is definitely more mental than it is physical,” she says. “It’s very important to remain objective and positive while shooting, and always think of what you want to happen. It’s never over until it’s absolutely done; keep fighting.”

After the Olympics Leek looks forward to beginning the college selection process and finding a school that will embrace her talents of archery and a desire to major in biology.

When the London games are in the rearview mirror, Leek hopes to brush off the dust on her compound bow and shoot some field archery and enjoy her other hobbies of playing the piano and spending time with her family, friends and dogs.

But before she starts a normal college life, Leek is focused on winning the gold medal at the London games. Her performance at the Pan Am Games takes her one step closer to that goal.

Leek broke the Pan Am Games and Star FITA record with a score of 338 in the thirty-six arrow from 70 meters event. It is another promising result for Leek and her team.

In the last year, Leek and Team U.S. garnered a team silver at the second stage of the Archery World Cup, a mixed team gold at the third stage of the Archery World Cup, a gold at the 2011 SoCal Showdown (a US Archery Team Qualifier Series Event), and a second place finish in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – First Nomination Shoot.

There is a sense of excitement in the American camp of women archers. It is one different from the hope of past years, where teams with undeniable talent fell short in performance. A large part of this excitement comes from Leek’s arrival on the Olympic scene.
<div
