Houston, TX --(Ammoland.com)- With the 142nd NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits underway, Daniel Defense recognizes the sacrifices made by the men and women of the United States Armed Forces.

Their continued efforts protect the way of life enjoyed by Americans throughout the generations.

This year, Daniel Defense was honored to present a combat veteran and his family with the gift of a mortgage-free home.

“I am amazed by the bravery these soldiers demonstrate in the field,” says Marty Daniel, President and CEO of Daniel Defense. “We can’t thank them enough for their sacrifice.”

Through the Military Warriors Support Foundation, Daniel Defense learned of a soldier, awarded three Purple Hearts during his time of service. SFC Jonathan David Langford sustained multiple injuries during two deployments, including a blast concussion, broken ribs, shrapnel and traumatic brain injury.

“What we want to provide is hope for these warriors and their families,” explains Josh Kinser of Military Warrior Support Foundation. “By partnering with great, patriotic companies like Daniel Defense, we are able to put these heroes in a mortgage-free home and help them transition to a successful civilian life.”

Saturday afternoon, Daniel Defense gave away a rifle. A crowd gathered around the Booth (#2111) where SFC Jonathan Langford and family were invited to draw the winning name. Immediately following the announcement, attendees were asked to remain for a special announcement. It was there, Mr. Langford and his wife were told they were the recipients of a home located in the Florida town where they would settle after leaving the service.

The surprises did not end there. Working in conjunction with Texas Trophy Hunters Association and Trophy Hunters TV, the Langford’s were also elated to learn of an opportunity to hunt during the filming of a TV show.

Reno, NV - -(Ammoland.com)- The Youth Shooting Sports Alliance (YSSA) recently received a generous donation of Webley spring air rifles from Legacy Sports International.

The donated inventory of 144 air rifles consisted of Tomahawk, Longbow and Stingray models in .177 and .22 caliber. Legacy Sports International also donated four presentation cases.

Gene Lumsden, CEO and Andy McCormick, President of Legacy Sports International, said, “We are proud to continue our support of the Youth Shooting Sports Alliance. The organization’s focus on addressing limitations to youth shooting sports program growth, attributable to equipment and supplies, has resulted in a large number of kids being introduced to the joys and the responsibilities of the shooting sports. By supporting the YSSA, we are pleased to invest in the future of our nation’s sporting heritage.”

Webley air rifles are spring operated, single shot, air rifles fitted with precision rifled barrels primarily suited to waisted lead pellets.

The rifles share many special design features including:

An adjustable 2-stage trigger mechanism.

Adjustable forend jaws to ensure accurate barrel alignment is maintained.

A machine-cut dovetail for the optional fitting of a scope.

A mainspring damper which eliminates spring vibration.

Custom style ambidextrous stocks incorporating double cheek piece and rubber recoil pad.

TRU-GLO open sights with micro-click adjustable rear sights.

Fitted with automatic safety catches.

The YSSA offered the .177 cal. air rifles to 4-H Statewide Shooting Sports Programs while retaining the .22 cal. air rifles and presentation cases for use in generating funds through their cooperative auction program with GunBroker.com.

John Borba, California State 4-H Shooting Sports Coordinator, said “Nearly 4,500 youth members were enrolled last year in our shooting sports program. By far, the two largest disciplines are archery and rifle. These air rifles will be offered to county programs, specifically those with summer camps where more youth would be exposed to air rifle shooting.”

Natalie Carroll, Indiana State 4-H Shooting Sports Coordinator, states “Indiana had over 8,000 youth participate in the Indiana 4-H Shooting Sports Education Program last year and 26% of them were girls! We will be giving two air rifles to each of the 15 Indiana counties that had 25 or fewer youth participants. These smaller programs are usually the ones that have recently started and are in the greatest need of equipment.”

John Whiteside, State Coordinator for Arizona 4-H Shooting Sports Education, said “We will use our air rifles for the training of adult leaders and to equip Arizona air rifle teams participating in the 4-H National Invitational. We focus primarily on the 3P portion of air rifle and these rifles would give us the opportunity to expand our silhouette program.”

Donna Fox, 4-H Youth Development Extension Specialist for the University of Kentucky, adds “We will use our air rifles for youth hunter education day and overnight camps as well as our two coach’s certification workshops. With the shortage of .22 ammunition, we anticipate youth and clubs becoming more interested in air rifles than in the past. Using the donated air rifles will help our coaches be prepared for this increased interest and participation.”

LARGO, FL --(Ammoland.com)- Molon Labe Industries, manufacturers of polymer magazines and accessories for the FN SCAR and AR rifle platforms, has begun shipment of its patent pending SCARmag to its pre-order customers.

“The SCARmag has undergone some great improvements since we initially announced the project in late 2012, making these new SCARmags even more reliable and indestructible than the original models,” Chris Gleason, Founder and CEO of Molon Labe Industries stated.

“Our production is increasing every day to fulfill the many orders we have received over the past several months from our very excited customers.”

The SCARmag is designed to operate in the SCAR 17, SCAR 17s, SCAR H and MK17 rifle systems and is compatible with 7.62 mm / .308 Win. At half the weight of a factory FN SCAR magazine, the SCARmag will prove to be a great advancement in the world of FN SCAR magazines.

Molon Labe Industries SCARmag

The SCARmag has a zero-tilt, low-friction, self-lubricating follower system, so unlike the factory FN Herstal SCAR 17 magazine, it does not bind. The magazine spring is made from the highest quality stainless steel spring stock. The SCARmag is made of proprietary polymer that is virtually indestructible, exceeding Mil-Spec extreme temperatures parameters. Another unique feature of the SCARmag is the Stealth-Tex IR Signature Reduction Technology. The SCARmag also has enhanced grip protection.

The SCARmag is available in Black & Flat Dark Earth in 5, 10, 20 and 25 round capacities.

HARRISBURG, PA --(Ammoland.com)- The Pennsylvania Game Commission has hired a new wildlife biologist to serve as its elk project leader.

Jeremy Banfield began his work for the commission this week.

Banfield received his bachelor’s degree in fisheries and wildlife management from Michigan State University and received his master’s of science in ecology from the University of Alberta.

WASHINGTON, DC --(Ammoland.com)- The American Knife & Tool Institute (AKTI) leads an initiative by the knife industry to address the issue of counterfeiting and its negative impact on manufacturers and consumers.

Counterfeiting, the manufacture and sale of knives and other products without the permission of the owners of intellectual property such as designs, mechanisms, word marks, logos, and product names, has become an increasing problem for the knife industry in recent years.

The latest in a series of online articles available on the American Knife & Tool Institute’s website describes the nature of the counterfeiting issue, its impact on the industry, and the efforts spearheaded by AKTI that are gaining momentum in the battle against it.

“Counterfeiting is a two-part problem,” explained AKTI Executive Director Jan Billeb. “It is a problem for the industry, companies, and knifemakers, but it is also a problem for the customer and the knife owner. AKTI is working on the issue for the entire knife community by seeking solutions for those that make knives and for knife owners by educating them on the problem.”

Rod Bremer of Columbia River Knife & Tool, Les de Asis of Benchmade Knife Company, and Anne Reeve of Chris Reeve Knives also comment on their companies’ experiences with counterfeiting. These range from substantial losses in revenue for knife manufacturers and confusion on the part of the customer to inferior product performance and severe brand erosion.

AKTI continues to develop strategies and tactics to deal with counterfeiting. Last February, AKTI conducted a roundtable conference to address the issue, and the organization is hosting a workshop during the 2013 Blade Show on Sunday, June 2 in Atlanta, GA.

NEWTOWN, Conn --(Ammoland.com)- The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms industry, has joined with 54 county sheriffs, Magpul Industries, the Colorado Outfitters Association, several firearms retailers, disabled individuals and other parties in a federal lawsuit brought today in the United States District Court for the District of Colorado in what is a broad-based challenge to Colorado’s recently enacted gun-control laws.

“In addition to Constitutional infringements and unenforceable requirements regarding magazine capacity, as the sheriffs have pointed out, we believe it will be impossible for citizens to comply with mandated firearms ‘transfers’ through federally licensed retailers,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel.

“Colorado’s federally-licensed firearms retailers are being asked to process these transfers as if they were selling from their own inventory and to monitor both seller and buyer through a state-administered check process that can take hours or even days. They will not be able to recoup the actual cost of providing the service, which is capped at $10, but they will be liable for paperwork errors and subject to license revocation. Not surprisingly, we expect few, if any licensed retailers will step forward to provide this service.”

“For this reason and the many others detailed in our joint action with our fellow plaintiffs, these laws need to be struck down,” Keane said.

The firearms retailers bringing suit are: 2nd Amendment Gunsmith & Shooting Supply, Loveland; Goods for the Woods, Durango; Grand Prix Guns, Littleton; Green Mountain Guns, Lakewood; Jensen Arms, Loveland; Jerry’s Outdoor Sports, Grand Junction; Rocky Mountain Shooters Supply, Fort Collins; and Specialty Sports & Supply, Colorado Springs.

About NSSF
The National Shooting Sports Foundation is the trade association for the firearms industry. Its mission is to promote, protect and preserve hunting and the shooting sports. Formed in 1961, NSSF has a membership of more than 8,000 manufacturers, distributors, firearms retailers, shooting ranges, sportsmen’s organizations and publishers.
Matten, Switzerland --(Ammoland.com)- Sphinx Arms denies the information provided during a segment of the Swiss National Television’s news, wrongly stating that it had developed a ground-breaking technology to be used for firearms and ammunition tracing.

This technology has been developed by Nano-ID Security Systems, a Swiss based company, which has requested Sphinx Arms to test and evaluate this technology only in conjunction with a project for sensitive material tracing and authentication in Switzerland.

One of the key features of this technology is to prevent alterations or defacing of serial numbers.

Sphinx Arms confirms that no identification solution has been deployed and will not be deployed in any of its firearms produced and exported to countries out of Switzerland, unless mandated by law from a sovereign country or state. A project, exclusive to Switzerland, is currently being evaluated as a potential marking solution for special categories of firearms. The adoption of such a marking solution, based on Switzerland’s political system, would first require to be submitted to Swiss citizens for voting and adoption, prior to its deployment by Swiss authorities. As a Swiss based manufacturer, Sphinx emphasizes that it will comply with any Swiss state and federal laws, as well as foreign government policies that would be required for firearms importation, exportation and distribution.

The Nano based identification system, applied on firearms, does not allow any form of remote identification, real-time tracking or energy output, making it impossible to transmit or compromise sensitive data. Data can only be accessed through specific readers, similar to a bar code system, that are only made available to Law Enforcement and Governmental entities which would require a maximum of 10 inches of distance, with an unobstructed line of sight, between the reader and the tag to be effective.

Maryland – -(Ammoland.com)- This morning, Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley signed into law SB281, a bill that will severely limit the Constitutionally-protected rights of American citizens in the State of Maryland.

Following the signature of the Bill into law, Beretta has issued the following statement, regarding our company’s position regarding the law, and our willingness to remain in the State of Maryland.

You may also wish to read this article, outlining our future plans to remain in a state that has chosen to cripple its citizens’ Second Amendment rights.

“The firearm companies owned by Beretta Holding in Maryland—Beretta U.S.A. Corp., Benelli U.S.A. Corporation and Stoeger Industries, Inc.—have all been deeply concerned about Governor Martin O’Malley’s effort this year to impose broad new restrictions on the rights of Maryland citizens to buy firearms, as well as on the types of firearms and firearm magazines they can acquire.

The Companies have submitted comments before the Maryland legislature and to the press condemning these efforts and stating that the Governor’s anti-gun activity is causing them to evaluate whether they want to remain in this State.

Notwithstanding some media reports to the contrary, those efforts have had some beneficial effects.

Through the Companies’ legislative efforts and with assistance led by Delegate Joe Vallario and others provisions were stripped out of the final Bill that would have required an immediate move of certain operations out of Maryland. The parts of the legislation that remained, though – and that were not deleted notwithstanding the Beretta Holding companies efforts to do so - remain offensive not only to our companies as firearm manufacturers, importers and distributors and as investors in jobs, taxes and income within the State of Maryland, but also to those of us who, as Maryland citizens, will now be encumbered with obstacles to our exercise of our Constitutional rights, such as a requirement we now be fingerprinted like a criminal before we can buy a handgun, without providing a commensurate benefit in reducing crime.

The resulting law that passed is not acceptable, even with the improvements we were able to obtain. In short, the law that finally passed went from being atrocious to simply being bad.

The question now facing the Beretta Holding companies in Maryland is this: What effect will the passage of this law–and the efforts of Maryland government officials to support its passage–have on our willingness to remain in this State?

In that respect we are mindful of two objectives: We will not let passage of this legislation prevent us from providing on-time delivery of our products to our U.S. Armed Forces and other important customers. We also will not go forward in a way that compounds the insult made to our Maryland employees by their Governor and by the legislators who supported his efforts.

Prior to introduction of this legislation the three Beretta Holding companies located in Maryland were experiencing growth in revenues and jobs and had begun expansion plans in factory and other operations. The idea now of investing additional funds in Maryland and thus rewarding a Government that has insulted our customers and our products is offensive to us so we will take steps to evaluate such investments in other States. At the same time, we will continue our current necessary operations within Maryland and we are thankful for and welcome the continued support of our employees as we do so.”

MIAMI, FL –(Ammoland.com)- The Rossi revolution of firearm design and manufacture started with the founding of the company in 1889 by Amadeo Rossi. Over the last 115 years, that tradition has grown along with the company and the Rossi Family. The Rossi name represents a piece of firearm history and a tradition of excellence.

Over the years, Rossi firearms has led the way in design and engineering. At the same time, it has always been important to produce an affordable product without sacrificing any quality or accuracy.

In December of 1997 BrazTech International L.C. was created as the exclusive importer of Rossi firearms in North America.

Previously, Rossi firearms were distributed by Interarms of Alexandria, Virginia. Rossi manufactures its classic rifles in a plant in San Leopoldo, Brazil and will continue operations there, selling many firearms outside the United States and North America.

At the same time, Forjas Taurus, S.A. purchased the rights and the equipment to manufacture Rossi handguns. Taurus manufactures three models of .38 Special revolvers and four models of .357 Magnum revolvers under contract with Rossi. Revolvers sold by BrazTech with the Rossi name are manufactured in a brand new facility owned by Taurus in SaoLeopoldo, Brazil. Much of the tooling and many of the machines were acquired from Rossi during negotiations between the companies.

Today’s Rossi is still run by the same family and they put the same dedication and innovation into every firearm. At Rossi, it is more than just building guns…it is a family’s history and tradition.

New York --(Ammoland.com)- If you are reading this, most likely you’re a gun-owner.

And you already know that you are caught up in the battle to preserve this republic of ours, a battle between good and evil, between truth and lies.

If you’re a patriotic American, and treasure the blueprint for a free republic set out on paper by this country’s Founding Fathers, you know that your only choice is to take the tough road: to stand on the side of truth. It’s a tough road, because the odds are highly stacked against you by powerful forces aligned against the truth. But you have no real choice.

We —the authors of this article— have no doubts that we’re on the right side, and have been all along. None of us have ever seen or heard the truth from the weapon-prohibitionists.

Many American gun-owners are intimidated or confused about their ownership because of the widespread propaganda telling them that we firearm owners are deranged demons, liars, or at best, ignorant, because we refuse to accept ever-more restrictive gun laws. And many gun-owners are bullied into submission by the constant pounding we take from all sides.

It has always taken courage to stand up for the cause of liberty. But we have no doubt that our Founding Fathers were right about civilian weapons possession.

The truth gives us the power to fight the overwhelming lies told by the media. It gives us the power to resist attacks on our morality for being peaceable gun-owners, and a hardened determination to resist stronger restrictive firearm laws. Those laws will most surely jeopardize the safety of our families, and even the families of those who demand such laws.

A new poll, conducted earlier this year by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press revealed, some interesting findings, which should be of no surprise to those paying any attention to the truth. The report dealt with trust in the Federal government. “Majority Says the Federal Government Threatens Their Personal Rights”

The survey went on to state that “As Barack Obama begins his second term in office, trust in the federal government remains mired near a historic low, while frustration with government remains high. And for the first time, a majority of the public says that the federal government threatens their personal rights and freedoms.”

But we Americans were forewarned of this over a century ago by Henry David Thoreau—a name that should be a household staple to all American patriots. Thoreau was, among other things, a 19th century philosopher and he didn’t mince words when it came to the evils of government and the role of civil disobedience.

Thoreau was very clear: “This American government…has not the vitality and force of a single living man… It does not keep the country free. It does not settle the West. It does not educate….”

In fact, Thoreau stated, as many today believe:

That government is best which governs not at all….Governments show thus how successfully men can be imposed on, even impose on themselves, for their own advantage….All men recognize the right of revolution; that is, the right to refuse allegiance to, and to resist, the government, when its tyranny or its inefficiency are great and unendurable.

Post Heller Junk Science

To bolster the case of the weapon-prohibitionists, politicians and the mainstream media try to sell their own brand of “truth” about American gun-owners and their firearms. But that “truth”—propagated by government-funded junk-science researchers who manipulate the truth with their sleight-of-hand statistics—is simply a gross perversion of the very word. It is history and the truth that bear out that we are on the side of right—for a safer world, despite all the lies to the contrary.

And more and more Americans are beginning to see through all the lies. According to a recent FBI report, more Americans are buying guns than ever before, on the heels of the recent Sandy Hook tragedy.

What does the mainstream media, here and abroad, have to offer as “truth” but photos of dead school children, intended —not to inform— but to fool the rest of us through the use of graphic and horrifying violent deaths? We have only the faceless photos of children who were successfully defended with the use of a firearm, and who went to school and returned home, safe and sound, to counter with.

The latter outnumber, by far, the former. But which group makes the headlines? And which is real the picture of truth?

Economist John R. Lott explains how the Brady Campaign and the Violence Policy Center attempts to turn lies into truth, like Rumpelstiltskin turned straw into gold. Lott comments that “the gun control advocates inaccurately describe many shooting cases, choosing to ignore that the majority of incidents involve people properly defending themselves.” Lott complains that “even more bizarrely, they count legitimate self-defense cases as bad events even when no charges are filed or the permit holder is later exonerated.”
Those gun-owners who are influenced by media and government lies, and who agree that stricter firearm regulations should be passed, need us —the ones who know the truth— to provide them with the facts.

We need to teach Americans who live in fear of firearms that they have been fooled by unconscionable liars. We need to explain to our fellow citizens that if they change their vote at the ballot box because of fears and falsehoods, then they are surely voting away their own children’s self-interests and futures.

The enemies of liberty —both foreign and domestic— are gathering their strength for the next round of battles against us.

We should be doing the same. We need to strengthen our culture, our norm of private firearm ownership. Strength at home, strength abroad, strength for our children, strength for our homeland, strength in unity of purpose, strength in our belief that privately possessed firearms offer the safest possible society for all.

One of the most infamous Marxists gave us a truism that has held since before guns were even conceived of. For it was Mao Tse Tung who stated that “Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.” But he was only partly right, for he left out what the mainstream media and our own government would deny: that words like “peace” and “security” also come from the barrels of our guns.

Many of us who are reading this are already taking the time to teach fundamental American values and truths. For those gun-owners who are not, there’s no time to waste. You are more talented than you know, and you can accomplish more than you believe.

The attempt must be made at the grassroots level, bypassing a corrupt, jaundiced media that hides the truth behind the guarantees of its beloved First Amendment, all the while demonizing the Amendment in the Bill of Rights that follows it directly, and ultimately protects it.

It’s easier if you join or create a group. It’s easier if you take some NRA instructor courses on safe firearm-handling practices, because you build some gravitas for yourself and your group. If your spouse or your children will help, that, too, is a plus. Find your own niche. One of the authors of this article runs a course for youngsters at his local range, along with other volunteers.

Most Americans—and certainly most gun-owners—know about the “Boxes of Liberty,” i.e. the measures that can be drawn on by citizens to defend liberty. A Google search of “Boxes of Liberty” provides numbers ranging from 3 to 5. Some writers include the “soap-box” and the “mailbox.” But the other 3 Boxes of Liberty are the ones that most gun-owners are familiar with: the “ballot box,” the “jury box” (and with it, the prospect of jury nullification), and as a last resort, the “cartridge box.”

In an article entitled “Four Boxes,” published on May 7, 2013, and written by Frank Grochowski—a retired Navy Veteran of 25 years active duty service—the author poses the question: “Have we passed through the Soap Box, Ballot Box, and Jury box phases and are we now facing the prospect of resorting to the Cartridge Box?”

It’s a question many Americans are now taking very seriously in ever greater numbers.

But we believe that it is not yet the time to take such drastic measures. There is still much that we can do to forestall that option, because once the bullets begin to fly, there will be no turning back from the chaos that will surely result and engulf us all.

FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. --(Ammoland.com)- Filled classrooms at Hunter Safety courses are a good thing, but perhaps more important is the number of students that actually participate in hunting after they graduate.

A recent survey, funded by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) and conducted by Southwick Associates, focused on participation levels of students in the years immediately following their graduation from hunter education class. The survey revealed that a significant percentage of hunter education students do not buy a license after graduating.

Twelve state wildlife agencies supplied data for the survey, which profiled the subsequent hunting license buying habits of hunter education graduates from 2006-2011.

· Just 67.7 % of graduates over the six-year period purchased at least one license.

· While some graduates took hunter education with no intention of hunting, others needed assistance to make the leap to become an avid hunter.

· After six years, only 44 % of graduates still bought licenses.

· Graduates from highly urbanized areas showed the greatest dropout rates indicating a greater need for intervention efforts.

· People graduating in warmer months represented the greatest percentage of graduates who never purchased a license.

· In most states, graduates between the ages of 16 to 24 were less likely to buy a license six years after graduating, which showed the transient nature of young people. This held true for college students and those in the military.

“This shows us that simply encouraging people to obtain their hunter safety certificate is not enough,” said Rob Southwick, president of Southwick Associates, which designs and conducts surveys such as HunterSurvey.com, ShooterSurvey.com, and AnglerSurvey.com. “The hunting community needs ways to encourage new graduates to buy a license and go hunting. Whether that means more programs for state agencies to get people out hunting, private industry intervention, or simply more hunters taking their neighbor’s kid into the woods, remains to be seen. “

It is the belief of the NSSF that the results from this study will help the hunting community determine where intervention is needed to maintain hunting participation among newer hunters.

The full results from the survey can been seen in greater depth at click here

Southwick Associates helps the outdoor industry, management agencies and non-profit organizations understand the size of markets, sales and participation trends and the economic aspects of hunting, fishing and other outdoor recreation and conservation issues

ROCHESTER, NY --(Ammoland.com)- Crosman Corporation, long known for creating innovative, high quality products for the shooting sports, announced a special instructor discount program directed toward 70,000 International Hunter Education Association (IHEA) Instructors at the recent 2013 IHEA-USA Conference.

According to Jennifer Lambert, Crosman Vice President of Marketing, “Crosman and the IHEA share a common goal of providing a foundation to safely and responsibly introduce future generations to the joys of hunting. We’re excited to provide the volunteers who teach Hunter Education with the means to achieve that goal,” she said.

“For 90 years Crosman has supported the efforts of beginning shooters,” says IHEA-USA Executive Director, Steve Hall. “So it makes sense they’re continuing that commitment by collaborating with hunting education instructors to do the same.”

“With the shortage of traditional firearm ammunition, it’s the perfect time for Crosman to support the shooting sports and hunter education with special pricing on airguns and airgun ammunition. Crosman airgun ammo is readily available and provides an economical alternative for instructors,” she said. “We offer a range of Crosman and Benjamin airguns that provide options for everyone from the beginning shooter to the most experienced hunter.”

Crosman’s new discount program supports the dedicated instructors who teach Hunter Education in North America, “and take on the vital responsibility of mentoring and communicating safe and responsible hunting to almost three-quarter of a million students per year,” Lambert said.

IHEA Instructors may take advantage of the Crosman discount by visiting http://www.ihea-usa.org/instructors/special-offers-for-instructors, clicking on Crosman, and entering their instructor password.

RICHMOND, VA --(Ammoland.com)- In federal court last Friday, Judge Glen E. Conrad, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia, entered a final judgment upholding the validity of Ashbury International Group, Inc.’s patent on its modular sniper rifle technology.

The court also held that Cadex Defence, Inc. of Canada infringed that patent, and enjoined Cadex from any future infringement. Ashbury was represented by Robert Angle, Rob Elliott and Virginia Flynn of Troutman Sanders LLP, and D. Alan Nunley of Reston, Virginia.

“We are very pleased with the final judgment, and feel confident that our intellectual property and the many innovative ideas that come from other small businesses, can in fact be protected, even in the hyper-competitive firearms industry. Ashbury’s innovations with the SABER-FORSST modular rifle chassis system and other tactical equipment can truly make a difference to military and law enforcement. Our customers in the government, military and sport shooting communities rely on Ashbury’s innovations. They deserve to have our best engineered designs particularly in life critical applications,” said Ashbury CEO and President Morris Peterson after entry of the judgment against Cadex.

“The court held that Ashbury’s patent is valid, and potential infringers now know that Ashbury will protect its valuable intellectual property,” said Robert Angle, the head of Troutman Sanders’ Litigation Department in Virginia and a leading intellectual property litigator in Richmond, VA. “This case validates the significant investment Ashbury has made in its technological innovations. Ashbury truly typifies the resurgence of American manufacturing and dedication to precision craftsmanship.”

Ashbury, a Central Virginia based small business located in Greene County, Virginia, is an eighteen year old DOD contractor, systems integrator, engineering, manufacturing and logistics company serving the government, military, and special operations communities in the United States and in allied foreign nations. Among its products, Ashbury has designed fully integrated precision rifle platforms using the advanced SABER®-FORSST® modular stock chassis system in small, medium and large calibers, for sporting, target competition and tactical shooting activities. Ashbury currently holds 16 US Patents relating to its advanced modular chassis system for precision bolt action rifle platforms, including the patent infringed by Cadex, U.S. Patent No. 7,802,392, and other patents pending. For more information on the patent infringement case see Ashbury International Group, Inc. v. Cadex Defence, Inc., Case No. 3:11cv79, filed on December 16, 2011, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia. www.ashburyprecisionordnance.com

WEST POINT, MS -- AmmoLand.com) – Trey Teague, member of the Mossy Oak ProStaff and former football player for the University of Tennessee, was inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame. The ceremony was May 4 in Nashville, Tenn.

The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame (TSHF) was established in 1966 as an organization dedicated to the preservation of Tennessee’s sports heritage while honoring the contributions of legendary individuals and teams that have significant ties to the state. TSHF recognizes the positive attributes of inductees such as hard work, team work, dedication, focus and how these attributes are needed to achieve success in life. Using these champions as role models, TSHF works to inspire youth to follow in the paths of these great teams and athletes.

“The Mossy Oak ProStaff is a diverse team of hunters from pro athletes to musicians to well-known outdoor industry folks. We’re proud of Trey’s accomplishments and are happy to have him on our team,” said Tim Anderson, Director of Public Relations and ProStaff for Mossy Oak. “What’s really neat about Trey’s induction into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame is their involvement with youth and sports. Football is a great sport and so is hunting, so he’s definitely an inspiration for young people.”

Teague attended the University of Tennessee on a football scholarship and earned a degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Science.
NAPA, CA (April 2013) – The American Gunsmithing Institute, producers of the most authoritative instructional gunsmithing DVD courses, today released a new course, AR15: Practical, Tactical or Tacti-Cool, hosted by Master Gunsmith Sgt. Mark Foster.

Foster has over 30 years of gunsmithing experience and is a 20 year veteran of a California Sheriff’s Department where he is the Chief Armorer and Training Officer.

In this course, the student will see many examples of triggers, grips, optics, lights, rails, barrels, stocks, muzzle brakes, compensators, flash-hiders, sights, hand guards, gas systems and more. For each category, Foster outlines what works well, tells the viewer what to avoid and explains why. His daily field experience combined with his armorer experience working on fellow officers’ weapons gives him practical knowledge regarding the reliability and functionality of each of these options.

After reviewing the accessories thoroughly, Foster builds a variety of “mission-oriented” ARs and reviews what he chose for each and why. For example, he tailors the AR for: CQB, general hunting, SWAT, 3-gun, varmint hunting, home defense, plinking and Zombie killing, just to name a few.

NEWTOWN, Conn --(Ammoland.com)- The National Shooting Sports Foundation has launched its annual nationwide offer to schools nationwide to receive–free of charge–educational videos that teach children about firearm safety and wildlife conservation.

NSSF, the trade association for the firearms, ammunition, hunting and shooting sports industry, has been a leader in firearm safety and conservation education for decades.

The firearm safety videos teach students how to react if they should encounter a firearm in an unsupervised situation. The conservation titles educate students on how wildlife and wild lands are protected, and how hunters support this effort with contributions amounting to more than $1 billion annually.

NSSF believes all teachers and their students, whether in public, private or home schools, can benefit from the important messages in the videos, which are contained on two DVDs. Both the Firearm Safety DVD and Conservation DVD can be ordered online. Each of the individual video titles can be previewed online.

The Firearm Safety DVD offers “McGruff the Crime Dog on Gun Safety” for students in kindergarten through grade 6, “It’s Your Call: Playing It Safe Around GunsSM” for students in grades 6 through 9 and “Firearms Safety Depends on YouSM,” which covers the ten rules of gun safety and is for audiences of all ages. The first two titles help teach students how to respond if should they encounter a firearm in an unsupervised situation at school, at home or at a friend’s home.

The Conservation DVD contains “Wildlife for Tomorrow,” which is designed for students in grades 4 through 7, and two other videos, “The Unendangered Species” and “What They Say About Hunting,” which are for students in grades 7 through 12. “Wildlife for Tomorrow” and “The Unendangered Species” tell the story of how game animals such as the wild turkey, white-tailed deer and Rocky Mountain elk were once endangered and have been restored to abundance. “What They Say About Hunting” takes a close look at hunting and its relevance today through a pro-and-con debate.

Teachers in more than 100,000 schools nationwide have shown these videos to students in their classrooms and praised them for handling the topics with sensitivity.

Order or preview the free videos online at http://www.nssf.org/education/video.cfm.

CalGunLaws.com

San Diego, CA --(Ammoland.com)- Teaching Americans gun safety is like teaching politicians how to lie. It comes naturally.

Despite the National Rifle Association (NRA)’s high profile political activities, gun safety training and marksmanships comprise the overwhelming majority of its activities. Roughly 80% of its budget goes to these types of programs.

Gun control organizations, recognizing a way to rebuild themselves and fool the public into being less critical of their gun ban messages, have deceptively rebranded themselves as “gun safety” groups.

In the process, they distort conventional notions of safety training and ignore that organizations like the NRA have been conducting actual gun safety classes since Reconstruction.

This is one of the gun ban lobby’s more modern and transparent political canards. While the disingenuous rebranding ploy insults true gun safety trainers, the gun ban lobby’s attempt at “safely” positioning also ignores one truly relevant trend; thanks to real and very common gun safety training programs, accidental gun deaths and injuries are at historic lows, and still falling.

As Gun Ownership Rates Climbed, Accidents Declined
Nationally, the gun ban lobby has steadily lost each of its arguments, and so the patience of most of the voting population. They lost the Constitutional argument when the Supreme Court certified, again, that the Second Amendment protected a fundamental individual right; just as the NRA, and constitutional scholars, had said all along.

They lost the self-defense argument over the last two decades as 42 states voted to allow citizens to carry concealed firearms in public — and the dire predictions of Wild West shoot-outs in the streets didn’t happen.

Exaggerating the risk of death in the home from guns is their last fear card. So they have turned the debate to “gun safety,” and mislabeled gun accidents as a disease.

Gun control advocates claim that firearms are inherently dangerous. Some go as far as to cite suspect research that insinuates (but, due to methodology mistakes, failed to prove) that the existence of guns in the home were contributory to deaths. But during the last few decades, private firearm ownership has steadily risen, while accidental firearm deaths have steadily dropped. The gun ban lobby’s claim that more gun control will improve safety runs counter to the data.

That shows people are increasingly safe with firearms – even without the “benefit” of Vice President Joe Biden’s advice.

Overall, from 1979 through 2009 (a conveniently round 30 year window for analysis), the accidental death rate from all types of firearms has fallen a whopping 80%! It has dropped from 0.9 deaths per 100,000 people to less than 0.2 in 2009.

Meanwhile, the accidental death rate from guns has fallen vis-à-vis handgun ownership at a much faster rate. Refuting the gun ban lobby’s claims is the fact that accidental deaths from firearms fell nearly 90% as a function of handgun ownership, dropping from four deaths for every 100,000 handguns in America to less than 0.5. This occurred despite the number of revolvers and pistols owned in private hands doubling in the same period.

And kids are doing even better…

Houston, Texas – -(NRAblog.com)- Nobody gets the crowds rocking harder than the Motor City Madman, and his appearance at the NRA Convention on Sunday was no exception. This experience, however, ended a little different than the others. Sure there was talk of guns and politics and the spirit of the hunt, but that soon gave way to a more somber moment. The moment when the Nuge revealed one of his darkest secrets.

“I’ve got to admit something right here. I feel guilty. You know it’s hard to find ammo. I’m sorry … I’ve got it all.

“I’m really sorry about that. I’ve got this hobby.”

Sauntering side to side, shaggy bearded with a rock star swagger, Mr. Ted Nugent of Redford, Michigan, had the crowd in his hands before the boots hit the stage. Smiling, laughing, sharing one Second Amendment story after another, Uncle Ted hit all the expect high points.

But there was a story, one story from Ted, that was probably missed by most. The story of Josh.

On his first day in Fallujah, a 22-year old Marine sniper named Josh was hit by enemy fire. Shot in the back, Josh would be paralyzed for life. Three years later, after countless trips to the hospital visits and work with physical therapists, Josh was back home with his family. Confined to wheelchair, he hardly ever made a sound.

“The family called and said he’d like to meet you. I told them I’d like to meet Josh.”

In time a meeting was arrange. Taking place at the Nugent ranch, Josh and his family made their way to the Nugent ranch. What they didn’t know is that Ted had been working behind the scenes.

“I want(ed) Josh to shoot his rifle again. (I told a friend to ) find somebody to build something so Josh can shoot his gun again. So Pete got down with his engineering department and put together an apparatus called the Liberator.”

The Liberator is a modified sip-and-puff. For those of you unfamiliar with the device, a sip-and-puff is a device that allows an individual to operate a variety of tools or devices, like a rifle, the same way a paraplegic to operate a wheel chair. Each sip and puff, depending on duration, quantity and sequence, represents a specific command.

The Liberator included a display screen that showed the shooter what it would look like when staring through a scope. But that wasn’t all. About eighty yards down range, Ted and his boys set up some water jugs. It was target practice time.

“(We) replaced his tube with the Liberator tube. And he sipped on that sucker and the crosshairs moved. He blew on it and the crosshairs moved. And Josh was gone man. He was back at the range.

“Twelve minutes later, Josh took a deep breath … dead center. Josh laughed for the first time in three years.”

Odds are that this is the first time you heard this story. Odds are that everything reported about the Ted Nugent seminar last weekend at the NRA Convention was filled with descriptions of wild-eyed rants in front of a frenzied crowd. And that’s a shame.

For all the pictures of Ted Nugent with rifles in hand or deers on the grill, all the stories about battling Bloomberg or Britain’s Piers Morgan, all the media that twists word and phrase to shape the message rather than tell the story, odds are they didn’t report a thing about Josh.

And odds are this isn’t the first time Ted stepped up to the plate when it comes to America’s veterans.

Systems is proud to sponsor the Upland Gundog Association and their upcoming Hunt Test and Trial on May 18, 2013 in Grinnell, Iowa.

Founded in 2011, the Upland Gundog Association (UGA) was started to provide an upland-based venue for sporting dogs and bird hunters. Their purpose was to create a hunt test that was practical and appealing for the common bird hunter, their dog and their families, but demanded high quality dog performance in the field. The UGA’s mission is to provide a hunt test event that truly measures a dog’s ability to hunt based on realistic and practical upland bird hunting situations. The tests are offered for both pointing and flushing breeds, and are run in two different levels: Gundog level and Advanced Level. The UGA also offers a Youth Division and has recently added Shed Hunting Tests to their events. For more information about the UGA visit www.uplandgundog.com, visit their Facebook Page, or watch their video.

“A partnership with D.T. Systems could not be more fitting for the UGA,” said Upland Gundog Association President Ryan Eder. “Our venue was created to provide a platform in which hunters, their dogs and their families could enjoy our great sport, promote dog training and hopefully gain participation of the youth and newcomers to the sport. The UGA offers hunt tests that can be enjoyed by professional trainers, average everyday bird hunters and first-time dog handlers alike with one common goal; to educate people about the importance of quality dog training, grow the sport of hunt testing with sporting dogs and continue the great tradition of upland bird hunting. D.T. Systems is not only an industry leader in dog training electronics, but they share the same goals as the UGA. Like D.T. Systems, the UGA has something to offer everyone, from a professional dog trainer to first-time dog owner looking to get into hunt tests with their dog.”

“The partnership between UGA and D.T. Systems was a natural fit,” said D.T. System’s Director of Marketing Brian Lasley. “All of us here at D.T. Systems share in the same goals and objectives of promoting the sporting dog, friends and family in the field, and safe responsible dog training practices. The UGA embodies these principles and we are proud to support their organization.”

Registration for the Hunt Test and Trial on May 18, 2013 in Grinnell, Iowa will begin at 7:30 a.m. For more information on the event, please visit the UGA schedule.

NORFOLK, VA (May 14, 2013) – Mike Noell, founder and former CEO of BLACKHAWK! Products Group and an industry leader in the design and manufacture of tactical, military, law enforcement and outdoor equipment, has launched M3 “Investing in America,” a private equity company with a mission to support new and growing companies with capital and management resources.

M3 “Investing in America,” a company founded on the same ideals that made BLACKHAWK! a household name, was created by Mr. Noell to help companies grow successfully.

A former U.S. Navy SEAL, Mr. Noell experienced his business epiphany when his military-issued, 100-lb. pack broke, ejecting gear. Quickly realizing the area was littered with mines and that luck was on his side, Mr. Noell promised himself that if he returned to the U.S., he would make gear that would not compromise soldiers or their missions.

Mike Noell, CEO of M3 “Investing in America”

Mr. Noell’s leadership and management skills were what took his small cut-and-sew start-up out of his garage in 1993 to a 65,000 sq. ft., 3.5 story corporate headquarters with manufacturing in 3 states and a global presence by 2008. During his tenure as president and CEO of BLACKHAWK!, Mr. Noell and his highly skilled and experienced team, were responsible for the acquisition of nine companies and brands and the development of some of the most innovative products in the industry today. Many of the products developed have become benchmarks within their categories, including the SERPA® holster, which is today a market share leader in law enforcement and civilian holsters; the Gladius® illumination tool which revolutionized the flashlight market with digital components and strobing capabilities, and the Integrated Tourniquet System (I.T.S.) which provides security, military and law enforcement with a quick-access, built-in tourniquet system to stem blood loss in limbs during combat situations.

After a seventeen year run, Mr. Noell had successfully positioned BLACKHAWK! for acquisition to ATK and in 2010 and Mr. Noell retired to spend time with his family. His decision to establish M3 “investing in America” provides a new pivotal role to pursue his passion and love of developing and growing companies by providing them with the productive and effective leadership skills, tools and resources to become brand leaders.

“I have always felt a deep respect and commitment to the men and women who serve our country and our communities. It is an honor to develop and produce products that can withstand any mission from the tortures of battle to the rigors of outdoor adventures,” Mike Noell, CEO of M3 “Investing in America” commented. “We are currently pursuing any potential relationships with like-minded companies.”

Laura Burgess Marketing

New Bern, NC – May 2013 – Laura Burgess Marketing (LBM) celebrates 10 years as the public relations and marketing communications firm of choice for the law enforcement, tactical, military, shooting sports, boating and recreational fishing markets.

In this highly competitive industry, LBM has distinguished itself with its first rate customer service and its organic, flexible and nimble business structure, capable of adjusting swiftly to the beat of its clients’ own drummers. LBM also prides itself on the connections it has made within the law enforcement, military, private security and tactical markets throughout the years.

LBM was founded in 2003 by Laura Burgess after a 13 year run at SIGARMS. After receiving many job offers within the industry and terrific advice from many colleagues, Laura decided to put all those years of marketing and PR experience in the firearms industry to use by founding Laura Burgess Marketing. The company’s original services included public and writer relations, press releases and management of writer test and evaluation programs, as well as newsletter creation. In 2009, after six years in business, Eric Burgess and Ashley Burgess Gall, Laura’s husband and daughter, joined the firm making it a family affair. With the addition of the two new staff members, LBM was able to offer more customer support and new service offerings.

In 2009, emerging media was making a splash in business, but the firearms industry was hesitant to accept the new marketing methods. LBM, with the introduction of Ashley to the team, innovated the firearms industry with this new platform and helped such companies as BLACKHAWK! and SIG SAUER become early adopters and groundbreakers of emerging media. Today, most every company has some form of presence in emerging media and realizes the importance of it in their marketing mix.

LBM now offers a full range of public relations and marketing communication services including, but not limited to, public and writer relations, event planning, media analysis, scheduling and buying, advertising strategies, product introductions, corporate communications, market research, editorial placement, product placement, newsletters, news wire service and emerging media optimization.

To direct the companies next stage of growth, LBM plans to continue to discover new ways for helping clients receive brand recognition that have not been employed yet within our industry. One of these new innovations that LBM will look to embrace is content creation, which has made major inroads in several industries. Creating a dialog with the end user has become king and with the credibility of more bloggers what used to take months for a product article to hit the newsstands can now happen overnight. This new end user engagement is beneficial to the manufacturer in that it closes the gap and provides manufacturers with real time information on their products, how to improve them, or continue to evolve new ideas.

“This is a very exciting time for Laura Burgess Marketing,” commented Laura Burgess, Founder and President of Laura Burgess Marketing. “Our boutique family firm is structured in such a way that allows us the flexibility to continue to innovate and introduce the next big thing in public relations and marketing communications to elevate our clients to the next level. As we enter our second decade in this business, we are committed to delivering superior service that generates measurable results and enable our clients around the world to maximize return on their investment in public relations and marketing communications.”

NEWTOWN, Conn --(Ammoland.com)- In an op-ed published in the Houston Chronicle during the NRA convention, gun-control proponent Mark Kelly critiqued the NRA in advance of its annual convention in Houston.

Kelly appears to be working to become the most prominent national spokesman for gun control, and his rhetoric ramped up considerably in the wake of the Senate votes to defeat the wide-ranging gun control agenda. In this particular op-ed Kelly went so far as to suggest it was time for new leadership at NRA.

The record setting attendance of more than 80,000 NRA members didn’t appear to agree, but while Kelly is free to voice his own personal position on the issue of gun control, his piece in the Houston Chronicle contained an outright falsehood. In essence, Kelly argues that the NRA is working on behalf of the firearms industry, instead of its membership.

Kelly summarizes the point by saying, “The NRA leadership’s top priority is to make sure the corporations that make guns and ammunition continue to turn huge profits. Their top priority isn’t you, the NRA member.” And this outright lie is gaining more traction through its repetition, as seen here in a subsequent editorial in the same paper.

Of course, the NRA is not, nor has it ever been, the representative body of the firearms industry. The NRA is an organization of individual members advocating on their behalf. And while this paper and many others apparently consider the insinuation to be some kind of insult, NSSF proudly claims the role as the true representative of the firearms industry.

NSSF is the industry’s voice – representing more than 8,000 manufacturers, wholesalers, firearms retailers, shooting ranges, and more. NSSF keeps close tabs on the legislative and regulatory issues affecting the industry and goes to bat every day to promote, protect and preserve hunting and the shooting sports industry.

So in a letter to the editor shown below, we tried to keep it simple by illustrating the difference between NRA members and NSSF members at a venue like the NRA convention. And then we pointed out there’s really no reason to be surprised when the legislative objectives of the NRA and NSSF overlap.

So far the paper hasn’t published the letter, but if the media can’t understand these simple points, I suppose that next we’re going to have to draw them a picture.

To The Editor:

Of the thousands of words you printed during last week’s NRA convention, none were more inaccurate and ill-informed than your parroting of Mark Kelly’s claim that the NRA is catering to its “paymasters” in the gun industry, versus its own membership.

The voice of the firearms industry is the National Shooting Sports Foundation, with a record number of more than 8,000 members ranging from the largest manufacturers to the smallest family-owned gun store. At NSSF we are proud of our mission to promote, protect and preserve hunting and the shooting sports. The lawful commerce in firearms allows for the exercise of the Second Amendment.

The NRA, on the other hand, works for its now five million+ individual dues paying members to protect the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. If its members disagreed with the NRA’s actions its membership rolls would be decreasing, not increasing. In fact, polling of NRA members reflects overwhelming support for the group’s positions.

Here’s the key difference. If your reporters visited the NRA’s exhibit hall last week, the people in the aisles were NRA members. The people manning the booths and the companies they represent were NSSF members. Given the obvious fact that the NRA’s members are also our customers, it shouldn’t surprise your editorial board to learn that NRA’s and NSSF’s respective legislative positions are often aligned.

NEWTOWN, Conn --(Ammoland.com)- The U.S. Department of Justice Tuesday issued a report that provides further evidence that the use of firearms in violent crimes has dropped dramatically nationwide over the past 20 years.

This trend has occurred even as firearms ownership has increased significantly.

According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics report, (see below) homicides due to firearms fell 39 percent between 1993 and 2011.

The use of firearms in crimes without fatalities dropped an even more impressive 69 percent during the same period. By the numbers, firearm-related homicides dropped from 18,253 in 1993 to 11,101 in 2011. Nonfatal firearm crimes in this period declined from 1.5 million in 1993 to 467,300 in 2011. Read the full report here. Nonfatal Firearm Victimizations, 1993-2001

Study – Firearm Violence, 1993-2011

These findings support the earlier released FBI’s Uniform Crime Report showing similar reductions in the violent crime rate.

Interestingly, the new report confirmed earlier data that less than 1 percent of state prison inmates who used a firearm in their crime had obtained it at a gun show. Instead, about 40 percent of these inmates obtained their firearms from illegal sources such as theft or through a drug deal, while 37 percent got their guns from a family member or friend.

Of the firearms used in the offenses that put those inmates behind bars, rifles were employed only about 1.5 percent of the time.

The new report also found that from 2007 to 2011, about 1 percent of violent crime victims, some 235,700 people, used a firearm in self-defense. Another 103,000 used a firearm to protect their property.

What does the data is this report say about the focus of gun control advocates on extending background checks to private-party firearms sales at gun shows or their fixation on banning modern sporting rifles? The short answer is that the data we continue to see in this study and others demonstrate that those approaches are unresponsive and ineffective public policy responses if the goal is to truly continue progress in crime reduction.

We would hope that this report would cause gun control advocates to at least question their pursuit of ill-directed new legislation, but we will not hold our breath. Likewise, we do not expect state legislatures in Connecticut, Maryland [New Jersey] or Colorado to reverse bad lawmaking.

We also will not expect the Obama administration to cite this study done by the professional civil servants of the Justice Department since it does not support their political agenda. Nor will we expect extensive news media coverage, although we were pleased to see some articles and commentary.

NSSF and others will cite this report to help convince those policymakers who can be persuaded to stop and look at the data before acting or responding to emotional appeal. Our goal as a society should be to pursue policy that will truly work to further reduce the criminal misuse of firearms and to avoid making laws that work mainly to restrict and punish the law-abiding.

Plato said it best: “Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around the laws.”

Boulder, Colo. --(Ammoland.com)- Outdoor Product sales grew in fiscal April 2013 by 1.2 percent to $673.6 million, slower than the year-to-date trend, according to the latest monthly sales report from OIA VantagePoint.

Growth was driven primarily by Outdoor Hardgoods, while Footwear and Apparel sales slowed due to inconsistent spring weather. The National Accounts Internet and Discount/Mass trade channels continued to provide the strongest growth.

Outdoor Apparel sales declined by 3.2 percent to $142.6 million for the four-week period ended May 4, 2013. After double-digit growth in the first three months of 2013, Apparel sales suffered as seasonal weather finally arrived in much of the United States. Sales slowed in cold-weather categories (such as Outerwear, Headwear and Handwear). Warm-weather categories struggled to improve on inconsistent weather trends throughout the month and due to tough comparisons to last year’s strong sales when spring and summer arrived early.

Following a strong March, Outdoor Footwear sales slid back to negative territory, down 3.0 percent to $192.0 million. While most Footwear categories — namely Functional Outdoor Footwear, Running Footwear, and Sandals — were down, Comfort Casual Footwear posted positive growth.

Sales of Outdoor Hardgoods increased 5.8 percent to $339.1 million in fiscal April, a slight improvement over last month’s trend but still below the double-digit growth seen in January and February. Most Hardgoods categories increased over the comparable month last year, with the exception of most camping and climbing/mountaineering equipment, which saw declines as winter held on longer than usual in many parts of the country.

The National Accounts Internet and Discount/Mass channels continued to gain share of Outdoor Product sales in fiscal April. National Accounts Internet accounted for 9.5 percent of all Outdoor Product sales (up from 7.2 percent in April 2012), while Discount/Mass stores accounted for 5.1 percent of sales (up from 2.7 percent in April 2012).

Final results for the month will be published this week in the OIA VantagePoint monthly trend report, available free of charge to Outdoor Industry Association members at outdoorindustry.org/vantagepoint. For more information on becoming an OIA member, visit outdoorindustry.org/membership or contact Ingrid Malmberg and the OIA membership team at 303.444.3353.

Category reports are available at no charge to Outdoor Industry Association members and provide comprehensive visibility into the outdoor marketplace by tracking weekly point-of-sale data from more than 10,000 retail doors and websites that carry outdoor products, including nearly 450 outdoor specialty locations.
