title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- A segment in Linden’s show titled “Upland Gallery” features paintings by the well-known animal portraitist, showcasing a variety of dog breeds and birds captured at the peak of the action: on point and at the flush.

Young will provide new works for the show’s fourth season, which airs on Pursuit Channel and four other television networks, year-round.

“As far as I can tell, Wingshooting USA is the only show featuring fine art that honors dogs and birds … exposing hundreds of thousands of viewers to Ross’ compelling work,” Linden said.

Ross Young has portrayed champion bird dogs on canvas since 1997. His current work features National Champion Touch’s White Out and will be premiered today at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Grand Junction, Tenn. His clients include Nestle Purina, International Paper Company, Iams and national sporting dog organizations. Ross’ work has been published as book covers and on the covers of Gun Dog Magazine, American Field, Grouse Point Almanac, Sporting Tales, Pointing Dog Journal, Sporting Classics, Wildlife Art, Field Trial Magazine, Informart Magazine and U.S. Art Magazine. He has published over 50 limited edition prints, two of which were published by Quail Unlimited and another was the 2002 Waterfowl U.S.A. print of the year.

“Ross is a hunter, and often paints from life, not photographs. This intimate understanding of dogs, birds and the adrenaline rush of the hunt captures each situation’s pent-up energy … you can almost hear the brush rattle and wings whir in his paintings,” Linden added.

The official TV series of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, Wingshooting USA is additionally sponsored by TruckVault, Happy Jack, Cabela’s, Filson, Kent Cartridge, South Dakota tourism, Ugly Dog Hunting Co., and Tri-Tronics. class="wp-caption-text">Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation

MISSOULA, Mont. --(Ammoland.com)- Jim Zumbo of Cody, Wyo., has received the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation’s highest honor, the Wallace Fennell Pate Wildlife Conservation Award.

The award honors special contributions of lasting significance for the benefit of elk, other wildlife and their habitat across North America. A bronze sculpture was presented to Zumbo during the 28th annual RMEF convention, which ended Feb. 4 in Las Vegas.

Zumbo is one of America’s best-known outdoor writers and host of his own television show. He joined RMEF in 1985, a year and a day after it was founded. The outfit was still teetering in infancy and Zumbo gave it only a 50/50 chance of lasting out the year. But he felt the spirit of the founding leaders, wrote a $600 check and became one of RMEF’s earliest life members.

In 1986, he volunteered for duty on the organization’s first board of directors. It was the first of two terms that Zumbo has served on the RMEF board.

Zumbo also was among the earliest contributors to “Bugle” magazine. His byline and endorsement helped build RMEF credibility among its most important audience – elk hunters. He continues to plug the organization at sportsmen shows, magazines, books and on television. For 26 years, Zumbo has helped make RMEF what it is today.

“Few people have done more than Jim to communicate the importance of conservation in elk country,” said David Allen, RMEF president and CEO. “But his influence also has helped to keep this outfit grounded. RMEF was founded by average elk hunters and they’re still the core of our membership. Jim never lets us forget that.”

The awards namesake, Wallace Fennell Pate, was RMEF’s first president and chairman of the board, he dedicated his time, energy and financial resources for the betterment of wildlife in North America. Pate, now deceased, became a national role model for groups or individuals concerned with natural resources conservation.

Pate’s son, Jack, attended the recent ceremony and spoke about his father’s devotion to RMEF and conservation overall.

About the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation:
RMEF is leading a conservation initiative that has protected or enhanced habitat on over 6 million acres—an area larger than Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Glacier, Yosemite, Rocky Mountain and Great Smoky Mountains national parks combined. RMEF also is a strong voice for hunters in access, wildlife management and conservation policy issues. RMEF members, partners and volunteers, working together as Team Elk, are making a difference all across elk country. Join us at www.rmef.org or 800-CALL ELK.
Tags: <a

Inc. magazine recently recognized this vision and featured MidwayUSA in a story in the February 2012 issue.

“Everything starts with our Vision, and it’s a pretty bold one,” said Larry Potterfield, Founder and CEO of MidwayUSA. “As a company grows, it’s important to formalize the planning, processes, systems, training and communications and to develop a great team of leaders throughout the organization. This is the hardest part of running a business and it’s something they don’t teach much in business school.”

Successfully running a business with over 300 employees while keeping Customers satisfied at the same time is no accident; it is the result of executing plans, listening to Customers, employees and continuously improving the way the business runs. The adoption of the Baldrige criteria allowed MidwayUSA to make this happen with systematic processes, not to mention fast shipping and friendly service, something the company measures and benchmarks against the best catalog and internet companies in America.

“Potterfield loves Baldrige not because it is exhaustive but because he believes it is foundational,” said Leigh Buchanan, Editor at Large for Inc. magazine. “Recently, he and members of his executive team distilled from the criteria 30 principles—involving things such as communication, work-force development, and contingency planning—that he considers the immutable core of management discipline.”

In late 2011, MidwayUSA won the Columbia Business Times Titan Award, an award presented to businesses that have made a significant difference in their community. The company was also named a “Top Place to Work” in 2011 by Inside Columbia’s CEO magazine.

About MidwayUSA

MidwayUSA (http://www.midwayusa.com) is a family-owned catalog and internet retailer specializing in Just About Everything℠ for Shooting, Reloading, Gunsmithing and Hunting. Now celebrating our 35th Anniversary, Larry and Brenda Potterfield turned their passion for shooting sports into a career in 1977 by opening a small retail firearms store that would eventually become MidwayUSA. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- The month of February 2012, I plan to provide a little black history knowledge here on the Urban shooter podcast.

Actually it’s a series on American history sub-categorized as black history. Knowledge alone is not power. It is what we do with knowledge that gives us power.

Gun control is based on Racism. American patriots know and fight against it, usually with those that should be our allies.

The black person in America has always been a part of the gun rights argument. like it or not, it is, what it is. I have discovered that if a person uses the terms “gun violence” or “black on black” crime there is a high probability they are parroting, misinformed, conditioned or purposely misleading others against self defense for “other” people.

Violence is force employed to do damage. the free, law abiding people I associate with in the gun culture do not advocate violence. Gun ownership does not equate to murderess intent. I own a few guns and I don’t want to kill anyone. And why do some sensationalize and promulgate, “black on black“? Why the self hate? But over the last few months I’ve puzzled over his answer and formulated what I wish I had replied to him with at that time.

I realized I should have responded back to him with this question.

What exactly is the so called ” gun culture” or at least his and or managements understanding of what it is ?

I have a funny feeling I would have been met with the standard response, which is really more urban legend and a complete fabrication of the media and Anti Gun zealots, that the ” gun culture “ is populated by undereducated, bloodthirsty, redneck neanderthals.

As is always the case with the Anti Gunners, this ad hominen stereotype isn’t based on facts, its a complete fabrication, designed to vilify and demonize a specific subset of society and make them the target of ostracizing by others in our society.

In truth, the so called ” gun culture “ is populated by people from every level of soc-economic status, education level , culture, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or any other of the myriad of categories of Citizens in the US.

I have met and often developed friendships with people that are ” shooters” from all across the spectrum, IT professionals, Doctors, Business Owners, Attorney’s, Blue Collar workers, Psychologists, FireFighters, Nurses, Hairdressers,Atheists, Church goer’s, straights, gays, American born Citizens and Immigrants etc, etc , etc.

In short, there is not a single demographic label in existence that doesn’t count Second Amendment supporters and firerams owners among its populace.

A 2000 report by a statistician found that firearms carry permit holders were LESS likely to be arrested for both violent and non violent offenses then the general public; http://tiny.cc/72ajm

I cant locate the study right now, since I recently went through changing over to a new computer, but I do recall seeing one released by; I believe the University of Tennessee, that found that gun owners tended to be more highly educated and more community oriented and responsible and their children tended to get higher grades in school, be more disciplined, have significantly less behavior problems and interactions with police then the non firearm owning public.

Normalization of Guns
The point to all this is, my erstwhile media acquaintance is laboring under a fallacy that there would be limited to little interest for pro firearms related articles amongst the general public, because of the misconception of what the so called ” gun culture “ actually is. This is something we need to actively work on changing if we ever hope to see regular neutral or pro firearms news reports in our regional and National media.

It seems like an insurmountable obstacle, after years of one sided yellow journalism masquerading as facts to an ignorant public. But it can be done, the tide has slowly started to change in our favor, clearly evidenced by the explosive popularity of several pro shooting/pro firearms/ family oriented TV shows that have stormed onto the scene recently on cable TV. Say what you will about some of the contrived drama of shows like Top Shot ( History Channel ), Sons of Guns ( Discovery Channel ) and American Guns, also on the Discovery Channel. The fact is this plethora of firearms centric TV programming on ” mainstream” channels and their attendant advertisers is significant evidence that the general public has an appetite for pro firearms related shows and the “ gun culture”.

This same public is finally starting to realize just how badly they have been lied to by the various Anti Gun Groups, and their enablers at places like the NY Times, MSNBC, ABC, CNN, the LA Times and others.

More articles, commentary and information by Dan Robert available at Ammoland.com)- The judges’ decisions are in: the DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife’s first fishing and hunting photo contests each have first and second place winners and three honorable mentions.

Three judges – well-known professional photographer Kevin Fleming, and local photographers Tony Pratt and Freda Barrett, both DNREC employees – reviewed 53 fishing entries and 27 hunting entries, and then narrowed each category to the top five.

The contests specified that photographs must have been taken in Delaware and must depict youth participating in fishing or hunting activities. Judges were looking for photos that best portrayed “the promise of the future” as envisioned by the Division’s 2011 theme of “Celebrating 100 Years of Fish and Wildlife Conservation: Reflecting on the Past, Moving into the Future.”

“When we were judging the contest entries, we looked most importantly for photographs that portrayed our theme and ‘the promise of the future,’” said Ms. Barrett, who suggested the contest as part of the Division’s 100-year celebration. “We also considered technical criteria such as resolution, clarity, lighting and composition. Some entries fit the theme, but had flaws such as poor lighting, an undesirable background or out-of-focus. Our winners are crisp close ups of youth partaking in fishing or hunting activities.”

“We saw some very nice entries for a first-time contest, and the winners were all good,” said Mr. Fleming, adding, “I would encourage the Division of Fish & Wildlife to consider making this year’s special photo contest held on the anniversary of 100 years of fish and wildlife conservation an annual event – and in case they do, I hope more people will be encouraged to take their cameras with them on their outdoor Delaware adventures.”

Fishing contest winners are:

First place: “Fishing with My Daddy,” toddler at Cape Henlopen, by Michele Reeder of Dover

Second place: “Barefoot Basin,” Collins Pond, by Joey Melvin of Georgetown

Honorable mention: Untitled photo of 8-year-old boy in waders holding big fish on White Clay Creek, by Brenda Rappa of Wilmington

Honorable mention: “Got One,” 9-year-old boy fishing in Cedar Creek Mill Pond, by Kathy Sheldon of Lincoln

Honorable mention: “Maddie Fishing Pic,” toddler fishing in Christina River, by James Brainard of New Castle

Hunting contest winners are:

First place: Untitled photo of 5-year-old boy hunting at Broadkill Beach, by Tom Burke of Greenwood

Second place: “Calling Them In,” 6-year-old boy hunting near Milton, by Amy Argo James of Milton

Honorable mention: “Scanning the Skies,” teen boy hunting at Ted Harvey Wildlife Area near Dover, by Dave Sawicki of Magnolia

Honorable mention: “Practice Makes Perfect,” 11-year-old girl hunting near Marydel, by Andrea Sergent of Marydel

Honorable mention: Untitled photo of two 12-year-old boys hunting near Lincoln, by Joey Melvin of Georgetown

“When we announced these contests as part of our 100-year celebration, we wanted to feature images of young anglers and hunters in our hunting and fishing guides, since young Delawareans will become the next generation of Delaware conservationists. The response from our resident photographers more than met our expectations,” said Division of Fish and Wildlife Director David Saveikis.

“Moving into the next century of fish and wildlife conservation in Delaware, we are encouraged by the promise of the future represented by these photographs of young anglers and hunters enjoying the outdoors.”

The winning fishing photos will appear in the 2012 Delaware Fishing Guide, with Ms. Reeder’s first place photo on the cover and second place and honorable mention photos printed inside the guide. The fishing guide will be available online, at the DNREC license counter in Dover and at fishing license dealers statewide in March.

The winning hunting photos will appear in the 2012-2013 Delaware Hunting and Trapping Guide, which is not yet in production. The hunting guide is due out in July and will be available online, at the DNREC license counter in Dover and at hunting license dealers statewide.

For more information about future Division photo contests, please visit www.fw.delaware.gov.
Tags: Ammoland.com)- In its sixth-year, the 2012 SHOT Show Media Day at the Range broke all attendance records.

The event which is held on the day prior to SHOT Show, was attended by over 1,200 members of the media. With over 100 manufacturers exhibiting,

Media Day at the Range continues to be the largest media event in the hunting and shooting industry, giving outdoor media the opportunity to shoot and test the best new products for 2012. Attending manufacturers get a jump on their competition with early media exposure highlighting their products for print, broadcast and internet coverage.

A special thanks to Media Day’s presenting sponsor NSSF as well as all our supporting sponsors, Winchester Ammunition, Caracal, Rock Island Armory, 5-11 Tactical, Tactical-Life.com, Action Target, Federal Premium Ammunition, Browning and GunBroker.com for their support in helping make this day the success it is.

“SHOT Show Media Day at the Range has become an important part of the overall SHOT Show experience,” said NSSF Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Chris Dolnack. “After its first year as title sponsor, NSSF looks forward to reviewing feedback from attendees and working with the organizers to make Media Day even better next year.”

The first annual Action Target Media Day Safety Award was presented to Remington Arms for demonstrating the highest standards of safety during the range day. Each exhibitor was judged by a panel of safety auditors from DOA Tactical. In addition to the recognition, Remington also received $3,500 towards their 2013 SHOT Show Media Day at the Range registration fee.

Open to all in the hunting and shooting industry, manufacturers, conservation groups and shooting organizations are welcomed on a first-come, first-served basis. This year’s exhibitors ranged from firearms manufacturers to tactical clothing companies. This year’s event also included an expanded short and long range shooting areas which allowed the media to test many more new products than ever before.

“Media Day dramatically improved our new product launch at SHOT Show,” said Jody Lamb, Marketing Manager for VANGUARD, a manufacturer of sporting optics and shooting accessories. “Hundreds of editors, writers and TV and radio hosts put our binoculars and spotting scopes to the test out on the range. You really can’t tell the quality of glass inside of a convention center so Media Day made it an effective setting for everyone. We’re so excited to see everyone again next year.”

Accordingly to Bill Dermody of Savage Arms, “I got more PR work done in one day than in months. It is going to take me weeks to get all the consignment guns to writers,” he said.

“Media Day funnels hundreds of people and products to the firing line– people with deep expertise in shooting gear, and products brand-new to market” said outdoor writer Wayne van Zwoll. “If you’re not part of Media Day, you’re missing a first look at tomorrow’s headline hardware, and a chance to buttonhole the engineers who designed it. No other event so clearly registers the pulse of the shooting industry!”

Media Day at the Range 2012 was also a fundraiser for Safari Club International. Through the generous donation of products to the silent auction from many of the manufacturers, funds were raised during the event in support of SCI’s many conservation programs.
<div

Towsley, a multiple-discipline competitive shooter himself, put the 9 mm version of the latest XD(M) offering through its paces, and it fit the bill for IDPA, USPSA, 3-gun and just about any action-pistol competition.

“I found the X(M) to be lively, responsive and easy to control,” Towsley wrote. “In doing a 2x2x2 speed drill, after some practice I could keep my split times for double-tapping the targets at about .27 second.”

Like all XD(M) pistols, the 5.25 ships with a host of accessories, including a polymer holster and a double mag pouch.

As Towsley concluded, “The XD(M) 5.25 is the largest pistol in Springfield Armory’s XD(M) line, and it may be the most versatile.”

Look for the February issue of Shooting Illustrated, The Definitive Source for the Modern Shooter, at a newsstand near you. class="wp-caption-text">AmmoLand Gun News

Las Vegas, NV --(Ammoland.com)- In what might be an amusing first for the gun industry, I was both banned and widely praised at this year’s SHOT Show. Let me explain.

Crown has just published my book, GLOCK: The Rise of America’s Gun, a narrative history of the iconic semiauto pistol, its inventor, and the marketing phenomenon that revolutionized the U.S. firearm market. The book explains the unique appeal of the Glock as well as the corporate intrigue and controversy that have made the Glock company an object of fascination in gun circles (for example: the 1999 attempt on Gaston Glock’s life arranged by one of his own financial advisers).

Apparently, the executives at Glock Inc., the Smyrna, Ga., subsidiary of Glock GmbH are worried about the book’s look behind the scenes at the company. So Glock Inc. forced the National Shooting Sports Foundation to rescind my press credentials for the 2012 SHOT Show expo floor. Talk about disrespect for First Amendment free speech rights!

No matter. Using garden-variety reportorial techniques, I managed to make my way around SHOT Show, see all of my contacts in the industry, and find – much to my delight – that the book is being enthusiastically embraced.

The good folks at 5.11 Tactical invited me to participate in their terrific authors panel. Lone Wolf Distributors sold GLOCK: The Rise of America’s Gun from their booth on the floor. Keisler Law Enforcement asked me to sign a dozen copies they purchased, including one for industry legend Doug Keisler (thanks, Doug!). Jeff Cahill of Tango Down had the book at his company’s booth. Frank DiNuzzo, Glock Inc.’s former chief in-house trainer, was patroling the floor singing the praises of GLOCK: The Rise of America’s Gun, in which he is a character, of course. Ditto for Cameron Hopkins, the NRA “Industry Insider” blogger.

Renee Wyatt had to stay home and mind the business so Rich, Kurt, and Paige could go to Vegas and blow the family nest egg at the craps table. And I must have offended Rich in the process, hence the threats on my life. But all ended well.

Let’s review our discussion earlier in the day:

My Gun Culture: Rich, Can you tell our readers how on earth you ended up owning a gun business? Did you start from scratch or buy an existing business?

Rich: In eighth grade in English class in Connecticut I wrote a report about this gun shop I got right here, right now. And then I followed my dream and went out and went to gunsmith school, and became a gunsmith. My Dad told me not to do it. Then I realized I couldn’t make enough money being a gunsmith. And then they wouldn’t let me play with machine guns, so I went to the police department. Then all these things kept happening in my life and next thing you know now I got the gun shop. I couldn’t make enough being a one gunsmith, one shop so I got 7 full time guys fixing guns. I’ve got lots of guys doing wild things – sales, training, buying / selling, and building guns. Now we have something that’s producing the income that my family needs for us to get by.

My Gun Culture: So just to clarify, did you start Gunsmoke or buy an existing business?

Rich: I started Gunsmoke. I’d worked with other shops and I had done different things. I worked with Colonel Jeff Cooper you know. Colonel Cooper was my mentor and I couldn’t believe I got a chance to meet him. I couldn’t believe I got a chance to teach with him. And so Gunsmoke was started originally to teach classes with Colonel Cooper when he left the facility he was at in Arizona. But anyway, we needed to set up a corporation to do that, so that’s how Gunsmoke got its legs. Colonel Cooper and I traveled, we hunted in Africa, and our families were great friends. You know Gunsmoke started basically in the back of a Suburban loaded up with Galco holsters and books. Finally, I was like we need a building to put all this junk in, so we went out and got one. And it just kept growing from there. And then I was like, wow we got all this stuff, we need a TV show! So we got a TV show. And now we’re just rockin’ it and having a good time!

My Gun Culture: So your business Gunsmoke is famous for being able to build a gun from a block of raw metal. If we walked in with a 20 pound block of cheese, could you fabricate a fully automatic Cheese Wiz dispenser?

Rich: We will make you the finest sandwich you’ve ever had! It will be the best grilled cheese you have ever, ever eaten. And besides that, it will be an artistic feat beyond anything any chef has ever prepared.

My Gun Culture: So Paige, I’ve got something in common with your dad. We both have beautiful daughters and that is a big , big problem for a dad to have right? It’s kind of thing when a prospective date comes over to the house that most dads make it a point to be cleaning the shotgun on the kitchen table or whatever. Given that your dad is, umm, a bit more tactical than average, and builds barrage weapons and cannons and the like, how does he kick it up a notch?

Paige: Just having the TV show already gives guys a little bit of fear because it’s not mysterious. They don’t wonder…”Does your dad have guns?” It’s more like, “Oh crap, your dad has guns!” There’s no question about the fact that he’s fully loaded. Guys do get nervous and I have to explain to them that it’s OK and he’s a normal guy besides the fact that we own a gun shop. Guys get scared, but he’s pretty nice if they pass they test. I don’t really know what the test is as I have to leave the room! There’s little things that guys have to do to pass…

Kurt: Yeah, like be a guy!

My Gun Culture: Who’s worse when it comes to grilling your dates? Your dad or your brother?

Rich: Paige is very lucky because Kurt’s bought his own place and lives on his own. And so he’s not there, but he does make celebrity appearances in case I’m having a little trouble with one of these guys and then he handles the heavy lifting.

Kurt: I’m the cleanup crew.

My Gun Culture: Kurt, I went to high school. I definitely did not have a single engraving class in high school. Ever. I had English, Geometry, and classes like that. So tell us how you learned to engrave guns.

Kurt: I had always doodled on paper and messed around with that kind of stuff. I never actually thought that I would come up with a career out of it. I did plenty of art classes in school, but obviously nothing geared toward engraving. It was actually dad’s idea. He asked if I had ever seen any engraving and would I be interested in it? I said sure – absolutely! He packed me up and shipped me off to school for it. The rest was history. I fell in love with it as soon as I actually started engraving. I took a basic engraving class out in Kansas. It was a great, great experience for me, and I love doing it.

Paige: There is one thing about engraving. I did try to engrave my name once. I couldn’t even do a straight line. It is extremely difficult and he does a great job.

My Gun Culture: Ok so we need a secret scoop for our readers. Judging from my own experience, I’ve run tools right through my hand. Have you ever done that?

Kurt: I’ve not yet put an engraving tool through my hand but I’ve definitely screwed up!

Rich: And he’s messed up some engraving too!

My Gun Culture: The SHOT Show is all about business – everybody’s doing deals. We happen to have at our house – hold on to your shorts here – we have an extremely rare and valuable Mosin Nagant. It’s got to be worth 90 bucks at least. It’s my son’s, but he’s away at college, so I’m thinking about maybe offering you a trade. I saw you build that custom sniper rifle that was over the top with the flames. I’m kind of thinking I want one with a World War II Midway battle scene on it with Zero’s and Corsairs in a dogfight over the Pacific. So what do you think? Even trade?

Rich: Even trade? Yeah, we’ll do it.

Kurt: In dad’s famous words, so how do you want to take care of the balance?

My Gun Culture: So while we’re on the topic of barters and trades, what’s the craziest trade deal you ever did?

Rich: I traded a guy for a live rattlesnake one time, which could be illegal in some states so I won’t say where I did it. Then I shot it and made it into a belt. That was a weird trade. But my best trade is going to be my next one.

My Gun Culture: We’ve got an ongoing debate going on in our office and maybe you guys can help settle it.We’ve had all sorts of industry figures weigh in on this. Is the MK19 Automatic Grenade launcher appropriate for home defense? My wife worries about the blast radius but I like the horsepower. Thoughts?

Rich: Here’s the problem. The only reason I wouldn’t use it for home defense is that it’s too difficult to move around in the night. I want to be able to get that gun on somebody so my home defense gun would be an 870 shotgun. Because everybody ‘comprendes’ a 12 gauge!

My Gun Culture: We don’t want to make you feel bad, but Top Shot Champion Iain Harrison recommends a 105mm Light Gun, which the British army uses.

Rich: Well I’ll tell ya what, while Iain’s whipping that thing around I’ll have 5 or 6 shots off with my 870. It’s not he who has the best guns that wins, it’s he who hits the first that wins! And that’s gonna be me! The best gun is the gun you’ve got with you.

Kurt: Anytime anybody comes into the store and asks about a home defense gun we whip that pump action shotgun out and rack the slide and they say ‘All right, I understand!”

Paige: If it’s for your wife, at least make it pink!

My Gun Culture: It looks like everyone in the family carries a 1911 from the pictures I see. Can you each tell us about yours and what makes it special?

Rich: Of course! First of all, I carry the coolest 1911 on the planet. It’s got flames on it, it’s got skull and crossbones that Kurt engraved, ivory stocks, Jeff Cooper slim line pistol, dehorned, Novak sights, you know – everything. It’s a great gun. And I also carry a 5 shot Smith & Wesson revolver just in case I need to fill my other hand.

Kurt: 1911 full size 5 inch with a Galco holster and also a 5 shot .38 with a Galco holster. Mine’s tricked out just like dad’s but a little bit different and that’s the great thing about a 1911 is that you can customize the heck out of them. Mine’s got all the same stuff that you need to make it a fine fighting firearm, but I did the custom engraved grips and I’ve got the two tone going with high polish so it’s nice and bright and it looks cool too. Same deal with the secondary firearm. Of course we customized that too – lighter trigger, bob the hammer, all that good stuff.

Paige: I have a little different 1911. Mine is a Colt Defender. It’s a 3 inch barrel instead of the full size. I had to prove to my dad that I could carry the gun. It took a while – I had to pass tests again, so I haven’t been able to really do anything to it yet. I’ve got new stocks, safety, dehorn. Mine is a bit smaller for me as its easier to carry on my hip.

Rich: One last thing. A lot of people ask and see us and say “Hey, your gun’s cocked…” Duh! That’s how it’s meant to be carried. And then a lot of people ask “How is Paige allowed to carry guns?” What do you live in a communist state? This is America we live in! She’s our daughter, on our property – it’s legal for her to carry guns. And if you can’t figure that stuff out man, grow up. Let’s not let people think that it’s OK not to carry guns. It is the best to carry guns. If you’re not carrying a gun right now, it’s a tremendous mistake!

We would like to thank the Wyatt family – all four of them – for tolerating our invasive and rigorous questioning. They were good sports – and quite entertaining!

About:
Ammoland.com)- The GLOCK Sport Shooting Foundation (GSSF), an organization of GLOCK, Inc., was founded in 1991 to introduce GLOCK SAFE ACTION pistol owners to sport shooting in a friendly environment.

GSSF stages indoor and outdoor competitions throughout the United States.

The competition stages have been designed to be easy to understand and operate with no requirements for fast draws, speed reloading, or physical movement. Competitors of all legal ages and abilities have the opportunity to compete against their peers in different categories for each model of GLOCK pistol.

All GSSF matches are family oriented, with competitors ranging from beginner to expert. These events are a great place to hone shooting skills, learn some tricks-of-the-trade and establish relationships with fellow shooters and industry professionals. GSSF members also receive the services of a factory armorer at every outdoor match, to make sure their GLOCK performs at its peak, with free labor and replacement parts when needed. The emphasis for every GSSF match is always on safe firearm handling, accurate shooting and good sportsmanship.

Competitors simply show up at the GSSF events with their GLOCK (as it’s the only firearm permitted to participate), factory ammunition and approved eye and ear protection. Then, they are ready to compete.

GSSF has a separate class for master-ranked competitors and modified (e.g., optically sighted) GLOCK pistols. There are also designated classes for adult females; male and female junior shooters; shooters challenged by a physical restriction; and senior and “super senior” (+65 years old) competitors.

While competitors must be a GSSF member to participate, their membership also provides them an opportunity to purchase a GLOCK pistol at a special price and attend a GLOCK Armorer’s course (if eligible).

Upon membership, competitors receive a membership card, a GSSF cap, two issues of the GLOCK Report, a copy of the GLOCK Annual and the opportunity to participate in special offers. GSSF is affiliated with the United States Civilian Marksmanship Program, whose benefits are also made available to GSSF members.

GSSF celebrated its 20th Anniversary 2011, and continues to welcome shooters ranging from young and old, law enforcement officers, members of the US Armed Forces and even first time shooters. More than 80,000 members have attended events during the past 19 years, including world champions who started their careers at GSSF matches and continue to return to compete, and introduce their families to the sport of competitive shooting.

Visit:<a
