title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- ArmaLite’s “History of Innovation” continues!

The originator of the AR platform has turned its popular M-15 SPR Mod 1 system into a “Family of Calibers.”

ArmaLite’s Mod 1 carbine started as a .223/5.56mm carbine built around a revolutionary one-piece upper receiver/rail system with exclusive detachable side and bottom rails.

This year, ArmaLite goes a step further, introducing the SPR Mod 1 6.8mm SPC II and the SPR Mod 1 7.62X39mm. Both mid-length carbines continue the “ArmaLite Standard of Excellence.”

ArmaLite’s SPR Mod 1 6.8 is especially well-suited to hunting. It is powerful enough to meet the minimum energy requirements of many states for taking medium sized game such as deer. At the same time, the 6.8mm is lighter than the 7.62×51, reducing the weight of ammunition carried into the field. As part of the AR-platform family, this carbine is also more versatile and ergonomic than traditional hunting models. The Mod 1 6.8mm is built with the ArmaLite-developed mid-length handguard and gas system to provide the best in form and function.

ArmaLite’s SPR Mod 1 7.62X39mm provides all the flexibility of the Mod 1’s one piece upper receiver/rail system but now for the world’s most available cartridge. The original AK-47 was built to use this cartridge.

Now, enthusiasts of the 7.62X39 won’t have to settle for less than the best: a true ArmaLite carbine. The ArmaLite designed mid-length handguard and gas tube technology provides an optimal gas pulse to power the 16″ system so reliability is never an issue.

More on the SPR Mod 1 platform:

The SPR Mod 1 is forged, one-piece upper receiver/rail system with exclusive detachable side and bottom rails.

In true ArmaLite fashion, the SPR Mod 1 is like no other on the market. With other one-piece systems, you’re stuck forever with the rails you get at purchase, and stuck with their limits.

But ArmaLite knows you and your firearm often have more than one mission, and you want options. ArmaLite gives you just that. The SPR Mod 1′s three o’clock, six o’clock, and nine o’clock rails are detachable. That’s right, you can change your 1913 rails to fit your changing needs for sights… lights…lasers…grips…or swivels.

ArmaLite takes that versatility even further. Each SPR Mod 1 comes with extra rails standard, at no extra cost. We give you a 1913 rail with quick detachable sling swivel hole. Each rifle comes with a low insert for when you need a bare rail with a low profile. There’s also a plain insert with a quick detach sling swivel hole. And there is a half plain, half Picatinny rail as well. Changing your rails…your add-ons…and your SPR Mod 1… is as easy as turning a torx wrench.

Ingenious versatility isn’t the only reason you’ll want an SPR Mod 1. Its one-piece construction offers you a continuous optic platform (COP). There’s no gap to bridge between receiver and upper rail when you’re installing your scope or sights. This one-piece construction also gives the sighting platform extra rigidity. It’s a good, strong backbone. That means your sights will stay zeroed in the most trying conditions.

The SPR Mod 1 typifies the “ArmaLite Standard of Excellence.” With us, quality comes standard. There’s no extra charge for: the SPR Mod 1′s chrome lined, chrome moly vanadium steel barrel; its two-stage tactical trigger; the patented, extra strength steel bolt assembly; or the hard coated finish. These are all things that the other companies consider options at an added cost.

The introduction of the new ArmaLite SPR Mod 1 is truly a new chapter in our history of innovation and our dedication to the quality you deserve.

SPECS FOR THE SPR Mod 1 6.8mm SPC II

Semi-Auto

Caliber: 6.8mm SPC II

Barrel: Free Floated 16″ Double Lapped, Chrome Lined\Chrome Moly Vanadium MIL-B-11595-E, Threaded 5/8-24

Rifling Twist: RH 1:11″ 110-115 Ammo Grain

Muzzle Device: Flash Suppressor

Front Sight Base: Gas Block with Picatinny Rail Top of gas block is .293 (+/-) lower than top of upper receiver

Upper Receiver: Forged Flattop with Picatinny Rail & Laser Engraved Rail Numbering, 7075-T6 Aluminum w/ 8″

Hand-guard

Lower Receiver: 7075-T6 Aluminum (forged)

Trigger: Tactical Two Stage, 1st Stage 3.5 lbs – 2nd Stage Approximately 5-6 lbs

Overall Length: 36″ with stock extended, Approximately 32.75″ collapsed

Weight: Approximately 7.4 lbs

Finish: Anodized Aluminum Upper/Lower Receiver, Manganese Phosphated Steel Barrel

Accuracy: 1.5 – 2.5 MOA

Included with Rifle: One 10 Round Magazine, Sling, Black Case, Owner’s Manual, Limited Lifetime Warranty

SPECS FOR THE SPR Mod 1 7.62X39mm

Semi-Auto

Caliber: 7.62X39mm

Barrel: Free Floated 16″ Double Lapped, Chrome Lined\Chrome Moly Vanadium MIL-B-11595-E, Threaded 5/8-24

Rifling Twist: RH 1:10″ 123 Ammo Grain

Muzzle Device: Flash Suppressor

Front Sight Base: Gas Block with Picatinny Rail Top of gas block is .293 (+/-) lower than top of upper receiver

Upper Receiver: Forged Flattop with Picatinny Rail & Laser Engraved Rail Numbering, 7075-T6 Aluminum w/ 8″

Hand-guard

Lower Receiver: 7075-T6 Aluminum (forged)

Trigger: Tactical Two Stage, 1st Stage 3.5 lbs – 2nd Stage Approximately 5-6 lbs

Overall Length: 36″ with stock extended, Approximately 32.75″ collapsed

Weight: Approximately 7.4 lbs

Finish: Anodized Aluminum Upper/Lower Receiver, Manganese Phosphated Steel Barrel

Accuracy: 1.5 – 2.5 MOA

Included with Rifle: One 10 Round Magazine, Sling, Black Case, Owner’s Manual, Limited Lifetime Warranty

Ammoland.com)- Barrett announces the newest configuration of the REC7 piston-operated rifle line; the 8-inch REC7 PDW (Personal Defense Weapon) is now available.

Our REC7 PDW was developed to meet the needs of military and law enforcement customers, and it has caught their attention by offering rifle-cartridge power and precision in a submachine gun-sized package. The REC7 PDW comes in 5.56 NATO or the 6.8 SPC cartridge, and it is available with either a mil-spec single-stage trigger or select-fire trigger group (agency/export only).

Barrett REC7 PDW Rifle

The REC7 PDW offers all the refinements of its full-size counterpart, such as the 9310 steel Barrett Enhanced Piston Bolt, which is proofed and magnetic-particle tested to ensure reliable performance. The anti-tilt bolt carrier with integral piston strike face is machined from 8620 steel. The gas block is chrome–lined, forward venting and has a fluted gas piston cylinder. This increases reliability by eliminating carbon buildup. Forward venting also keeps the operator’s hands clear of hot gasses.

REC7’s piston is made of 17-4 stainless steel and is the strongest on the market. The piston is easily accessed for cleaning without needing to remove the rail system. This enables optical sights or laser devices to maintain their zero after routine maintenance. The Barrett PDW piston system eliminates issues experienced by ultra-short rifles, increasing reliability with or without a suppressor. Designed for suppressed operations, the PDW has a two-position (suppressed/unsuppressed) nitride finished gas plug, which is easily manipulated with gloves. The REC7 PDW’s upper supports a free-floated, hammer-forged, chrome-lined barrel that is proofed and magnetic particle tested for quality assurance.

Barrett is a family-owned and operated company specializing in high performance rifle systems and accessories. Barrett manufactures rifles, ammunition and optic accessories in addition to training for civilian sport shooters, law enforcement agencies, the US military and over 63 foreign allied militaries worldwide.
Tags: Ammoland.com)- Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc. (NYSE:RGR) is pleased to announce the new Ruger SR-556/6.8, a new chambering in the popular SR-556 two-stage, piston-driven, AR-Style rifle. The new SR-556/6.8 brings the power and downrange authority of the 6.8 SPC cartridge in a two-stage piston rifle that runs cooler and cleaner than traditional gas-driven, AR-style rifles.

Packaged with one five-round magazine and two twenty-five round magazines, the SR-556/6.8 is an ideal hunting rifle for those who appreciate the versatility of the customizable and ergonomic AR-style platform.

The 6.8 SPC has ample power for hunting medium-sized game, and the greater muzzle and downrange energy enhances the capability of the SR-556 in defensive or tactical roles as well.

The SR-556/6.8 retains all the features of the original SR-556® that make it an outstanding value in the AR-style rifles. The patent-pending, two-stage piston delivers a smooth power stroke to the one-piece bolt carrier, which softens recoil, aiding both shooter comfort and durability of the rifle.

The four-position gas regulator allows the shooter to tune the rifle to the ammunition being fired and environmental conditions present. A chrome-lined, cold hammer forged barrel provides accuracy and longevity, Troy Industries Folding BattlesightsTM, Quad Rail and rail covers add considerable value to the package, as does the Hogue® Monogrip®, six-position stock, sight adjustment tool, and the padded carry case, all included with the SR-556/6.8.

The SR-556/6.8 maintains the mid-length gas system and the heavy (.850”) barrel contour under the handguard of the original SR-556. The 1:10 twist barrel has a standard SAAMI 6.8 SPC chambering, is 16.12” long, is threaded 5/8-24, and is capped with the effective and distinctive Mini-14/SR-556 flash suppressor. The SR-556/6.8 weights 7.75 pounds without a magazine.

For more information on the SR-556/6.8 or any of the other rifles, pistols, or revolvers offered by Ruger, please visit www.Ruger.com, or see your local firearms dealer.

<object

I chose to use Hornady’s polymertipped 110grn V-Max bullet as my hunting load.

After several days of unsuccessful hunting I was wondering if I was ever going to try out my new rifle and test Hornady’s ammunition in a real life situation.

Finally on the evening of the last day of hunting, a 185lbs boar walked out into my field and started eating corn not 60 yards from my tree stand.

It took me a few moments to quell the initial rush of “buck fever” that sent my heart racing before I took aim and fired a text book shoulder shot. My boar ran 20 yards into the twilight of the Texas brush and dropped dead.

The 6.8mm bullet penetrated the hog’s shield of cartilage perfectly and left little of his heart and lung intact. Thanks to my 6.8mm AR-15 I have a freezer full of wild boar sausage and a new multi-purpose rifle in my gun safe.

About:
Barrett Firearms

Murfreesboro, TN --(AmmoLand.com)- Barrett, a company world known for providing high-end firearms, optics, ammunition and training, announces the newest improvements and additions to the respected REC7 piston-operated rifle line. The REC7 rifle continues to impress with its enhanced reliability, accuracy and durability.

Barrett continues to expand this product line by adding the popular 5.56 NATO chambering cartridge to the lineup. The much-anticipated addition has caught the attention of many law enforcement customers. Many improvements have been made to the REC7 line, with many new enhancements included. The most visual changes are the Daniel Defense free-float rail system and Magpul® MOE® six-position stock.

The Barrett Enhanced Piston-specific Bolt is made from 9310 steel and is nickel-Teflon® coated. Along with the new extractor, these features increase durability. Each bolt is proofed and magnetic-particle tested to guarantee reliable performance. Machined from 8620 steel, the nickel-Teflon coated anti-tilt bolt carrier features an integral piston strike face.

The patented chrome-lined, forward venting, fluted gas block increases reliability by eliminating carbon buildup in the gas cylinder. The 17-4 stainless piston is the strongest on the market, and is easily accessed for cleaning without removing the handguard. The two-position (suppressed/unsuppressed), nitride finish gas plug is corrosion-resistant and easily manipulated with gloves. The gas block acts as an extended rail, providing ample space for mounting optics and accessories.

The REC7 rifle’s forged 7075 aluminum upper and lower receivers are type 3 hardcoat anodized. The lower houses a dependable mil-spec single-stage trigger. The Magpul enhanced trigger guard allows easy access to the trigger in cold weather or with tactical gloves. The upper supports a free-floating, 16-inch hammer-forged, chrome-lined barrel with M4 feed ramps machined into both the receiver and the barrel extension. Each barrel is proofed and magnetic-particle tested for quality assurance. A mil-spec A2 flash hider protects the muzzle.

The REC7 rifles now include two 30-round magazines, either Magpul PMAG® 5.56 NATO or Barrett 6.8, three rail covers and tactical soft case. A right-hand, single-point Burnsed sling loop is angled for charging handle clearance.

Barrett is a family-owned and -operated company specializing in high-performance rifle systems and accessories. Barrett manufactures rifles, ammunition, optics and other related accessories for civilian sport shooters, law enforcement agencies, the United States military and over 63 foreign allied militaries worldwide
Tags: Wilson Combat

Berryville, AR – -(AmmoLand.com)- After a tremendous amount of research and testing by Bill Wilson and the Wilson Combat team we are excited to announce the availability of our custom AR platform rifles chambered in 6.8 SPC caliber.

The 6.8 SPC (6.8x43mm) was initially developed by MSG Steve Holland and Chris Murray a United States Army Marksmanship Unit gunsmith to offer superior downrange lethality over the 5.56 NATO/.223 Remington in an AR pattern service rifle with minimal loss of magazine capacity and a negligible increase in recoil.

When built to the level of quality and precision Wilson Combat has achieved the 6.8 SPC is also capable of outstanding accuracy and reliability. In our match-grade, Spec II chambered 16” barrels, The 6.8 SPC is capable of pushing a .277 caliber, 85gr bullet to over 2900 FPS. 110gr bullets easily achieve 2500 FPS with factory loaded ammunition. Appropriate hand loading can achieve even higher velocities and enable the use of heavier projectiles up to 130 grains, which dramatically improves terminal ballistics over a 5.56 Nato/.223 Remington at long range.

This added ballistic performance makes the 6.8 SPC perfect for home protection and SRT/SWAT teams. The 6.8 is a truly ideal hunting round for medium to heavy game and turns the AR into a serious hunting rifle.

Wilson Combat hopes to become your one stop shop for all your 6.8 SPC needs.
<div
