title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Sphinx, the Swiss reference in pistol manufacturing, introduces the Sphinx SDP pistol, specifically designed to meet the demands of law enforcement and military operators. Sphinx pistols have long held the reputation for their exacting precision from concept to the firing range. The new Sphinx SDP has been designed using the same strict tolerances and state-of-the-art CNC machining used for the Sphinx competition and cSphinx SDP Compact Pistolommercial lines.

The new Sphinx SDP Compact 9×19 Parabellum is an all-black compact pistol in Double-Action/Single-Action with an ambidextrous decocking lever and magazine catch featuring various safeties including:

Loaded chamber indicator (visual and tactile)

Internal firing pin safety

Drop safety

Integrated slide position safety

Hammer safety

The Sphinx frame is unique in that the upper frame or dust cover is made from aeronautic grade, hard-anodized aluminum with Teflon® inserts to reduce wear. The integrated recoil buffer provides stabilization of the gun, getting it back on target quickly and improving accuracy. The full-length guide rails are not inserts like many other pistols, but machined in, providing additional strength and increasing accuracy levels. The integrated Picatinny rail is made from MIL-STD 1913 aluminum with 4 notches to hold a variety of accessories including lights and lasers.

The lower part of the frame or grip is made from a proprietary polymer that will not break down in either extreme hot or cold environments. The ergonomic, 3-component grip is made from soft and hard material for a comfortable, confident hold. Three interchangeable grip sizes (Small, Medium, and Large) are available.

The Sphinx slide is fully machined from solid steel and features an advanced pyramid design that decreases weight and profile. The slide is coated with TiAIN to resist corrosion and wear.

The Sphinx SDP features the new exclusive sights from DEFIANCE. The front sight is a fiber/Tritium day & night green sight working in conjunction with a Tritium 2-dot red rear sight. The DEFIANCE sight system is instantly combat-ready, requiring no switching on-or-off or any external energy sources.

The completely waterproof, completely maintenance-free sights provide fast and accurate targeting under all light and weather conditions.

For more information on the new Sphinx SDP Compact pistol visit www.sphinxarms.com or visit us on Facebook.

SPHINX SDP PISTOL SPECIFICATIONS:

Caliber: 9×19 Parabellum

Finish: Black, TiAIN coated slide

Mag cap: 15 + 1

Action: DA/SA with ambidextrous decocking lever or manual safety

Safeties: Loaded chamber indicator (visual and tactile), Internal firing pin safety, Drop safety, Integrated slide position safety, Hammer safety

Grip: Interchangeable – 3 sizes (S, M, L)

Overall Length: 7.4 inches/ 188 mm

Height: 5.5 inches/ 140 mm

Width: 1.3 inches/ 33 mm

Barrel Length: 3.7 inches/ 95 mm

Weight: 27.5 ounces/ 780 gr

Trigger pull: DA – 8.16 lb/ 3.7 kg

SA – 3.30 lb/ 1.5 kg

Sights: DEFIANCE Front Day & Night Green Fiber/Tritium

DEFIANCE Rear Tritium 2-Dot Red

Features Advanced pyramidal slide design

Aluminum MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail incl. 4 notches

Integrated polymer recoil buffer

Double trigger bar for maximum precision, strength and safety

Full length guiding rails

Options: Adjustable sights, lanyard attachment

About SPHINX:
Ammoland.com)- Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR) is proud to announce the Ruger LC9 has been named the 2011 Handgun of the Year by the Shooting Industry Academy of Excellence.

Ruger has received this honor four years in a row – an unprecedented accomplishment in the firearms industry. Ruger also received the “Rifle of the Year” award for the Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle, a second testament to the innovative design work at Ruger.

“The industry has once again recognized Ruger for the high-quality, innovative product designs that we have produced in direct response to our Voice of the Customer program,” said President and CEO Mike Fifer.

“Our top priority is to make the products our customers are asking for, and the LC9 and Gunsite Scout Rifle were designed on this premise. The fact that we have now won the Handgun of the Year award four consecutive years, and a record setting seven times total, demonstrates our transition to the leading American handgun manufacturer,” Fifer concluded.

“We could not be more pleased to have two of our firearms receive product of the year recognition,” said Vice President of Sales & Marketing Chris Killoy. “The Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle was created in conjunction with world-class training center Gunsite Academy and has proven to be a credible and affordable rendition of Col. Jeff Cooper’s Scout Rifle concept. We want to thank our retailers and other industry partners for this tremendous recognition.”

Ruger is especially honored that the Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle received this special recognition as this was the final firearm designed by Roy Melcher, one of the most prolific and talented designers the firearms industry has ever known. Over the years, Roy had made significant contributions to the Ruger product line, providing design guidance on the Mini-14®, Redhawk®, GP100®, 77/22®, M77® MKII, and P85®. Roy lost his battle with cancer in December 2010 and is greatly missed by his friends at Ruger and across the industry. Recognizing his final contribution to the firearms community with the “Rifle of the Year” award is a fitting tribute to a great designer.

The awards were presented during the 9th Annual Shooting Industry Masters on July 22-23, 2011 at the Rockcastle Shooting Center, Park Mammoth Resort in Park City, KY. The Academy, a 500-member group consisting of manufacturers, editors, writers, distributors and retailers from within the shooting industry, votes to honor outstanding achievements in product design and service to the industry.

For more information on the Ruger LC9 and Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle, along with the extensive line of award-winning pistols, rifles, revolvers and shotguns, visit www.Ruger.com or Facebook.com/Ruger
Tags: Ruger Firearms

Southport, CT --(Ammoland.com)- Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR), announces the LC9, a lightweight, compact 9mm pistol for discreet carry by law abiding citizens, or a full-power, no-compromise backup for off-duty law enforcement officers.

This highly requested pistol was developed through Ruger’s Voice of the Customer program and incorporates the features and rugged reliability desired by Ruger customers.

The LC9 has a 3.12″ barrel, is 6.0″ long and 4.5″ tall, making for a very compact 9mm pistol. The LC9 is impressively narrow at a mere .90″ wide, and weighs only 17.1 ounces with an empty magazine.

Featuring a black polymer (glass-filled nylon) frame and blued alloy steel slide and barrel, the lightweight, full-featured Ruger LC9 offers the versatility and capability of the popular 9mm cartridge in a highly compact, reliable, and user-friendly pistol.

“On the heels of the overwhelming and on-going success of the LCP®, customers repeatedly requested a lightweight, compact 9mm pistol. Frankly, they wanted an LCP chambered in 9mm” said Ruger CEO Michael Fifer. “Delivering an American-made, compact 9mm that provides the same legendary Ruger reliability as the award-winning LCP, LCR and SR9 became our focus. Meeting customer expectations is our goal and key to Ruger’s continuing success,” Fifer continued.
LC9 Information

The LC9 is a double-action-only, hammer-fired, locked-breech pistol with a smooth trigger pull. Control and confident handling of the Ruger LC9 are accomplished through reduced recoil and aggressive frame checkering for a positive grip in all conditions. The Ruger LC9 features smooth “melted” edges for ease of holstering, carrying and drawing.

One seven-round, single-column magazine is provided with each LC9 pistol. The magazine’s standard flat floorplate aids concealability, while the provided finger grip extension floorplate offers an option to shooters who prefer a longer grip surface with more hand-to-pistol contact.

Seven-round magazines, holsters and other accessories are available for purchase at ShopRuger.com.

The wider rear aperture of the dovetailed, low-profile, two-dot rear sight aids quick acquisition of the single-dot, dovetailed front sight. This high-visibility, three-dot sight system provides fast, positive sight alignment.

The slide locks open on an empty magazine and the external slide stop is easy to reach and manipulate for positive firearm functioning. A single-sided manual safety and a magazine disconnect are additional features of the Ruger LC9. A California-approved loaded chamber indicator allows for immediate visual and tactile confirmation that the chamber is loaded. A pivoting external extractor provides reliable extraction of the 9mm cases.

Steyr Arms

TRUSSVILLE, Alabama --(Ammoland.com)- We are pleased to announce that Steyr Arms will again import the Steyr MA-1 and SA-1 line of pistols starting in August.

SAI will import additional quantities of both models in both a 9mm version as well as a .40 S&W. The MA-1 and the SA-1 were two of Steyr’s best selling models, but the fall of the dollar versus the euro over the last several years caused the price point to escalate far too high to import.

Internationally, the pistols sell for 610 Euro or over $800 at a 1.4 exchange rate. However, SAI felt the price point needed to be much lower to truly compete in the US market.

Due to a bulk buying agreement with Austria and the recent rise of the dollar against the Euro, it became much more economical to import some additional pistols into the USA. Starting in August, SAI will be re-releasing both the MA-1 and SA-1 versions at a suggested retail price of $649.

We are very excited to be able to offer these items again to the Steyr fanatics out there. Thank you for all of the emails and feedback over the last two years encouraging us to bring back the pistol! For more information about the pistol series, see your local Steyr retailer or call us at 205-655-8299.

To see specs on the FMG Publications

San Diego, Calif. --(Ammoland.com)- Despite no shortage of 1911s to be found, Smith & Wesson entered the 1911 game in the early 2000s.

Many questioned why. Armed with this near, decade-long inquiry, FMG Publications took, arguably, the most popular handgun in the history of firearms and put it front and center for its 2010 American Handgunner Special Edition Annual.

Equipped with the latest compact Model SW1911 Pro Series .45 ACP, it was contributing editor John Russo’s job to settle the discussion.

“When I was asked to review the 3″ model SW1911 Pro Series .45 ACP, I expected a typical hard kicking short-barreled .45,” said Russo. “Man, was I wrong. This thing shoots like a dream! Smith & Wesson makes me look forward to being wrong!”

To produce this cover story for the 2010 American Handgunner Annual, Russo drew from his law enforcement and firearms instructor background with one predominant goal in mind.

“My focus was to find out how comfortable this gun is to carry concealed, how easy it is to get into action and then how quickly and accurately it can be shot,” Russo wrote.

Russo goes on to describe the SW1911 Pro Series as a pistol with flare and sees how far he can push the handgun.

Other expert writers meet Russo’s enthusiasm and delve into articles such as: The 9mm 1911: It’s Not Blasphemy; Retro Rugers: The Wait Is Over; Becoming A Gun Writer: It’s a Long Road; The Classic Big Bore: Smith & Wesson’s Big Sixgun’s Return and many more in the 2010 American Handgunner Special Edition Annual.

“The American Handgun Annual allows us to fill the pages with handguns to fit every need,” said editor Sammy Reese. “From handgun classics to fun and cost-effective bullet casting, we have something for everyone. We even get to throw in a few knives for good measure. It’s the go-to guide for all things handguns.”

The 2010 Special Edition American Handgunner Annual also includes this year’s Buyer’s Guide, FMG’s catalog of currently available handguns, rifles, shotguns, knives and lights.

The 2010 Special Edition American Handgunner Annual is on newsstands now, while supplies last. class="wp-caption-text">Springfield Armory

GENESEO, IL - -(AmmoLand.com)- The Springfield Armory recently announced the newest version of their XD-M series of semiautomatic handguns. The Springfield XD-M Compact 9mm Handgun. The M-Factor is a cutting edge polymer pistol with the perfect blend of design, technology, innovation and personalization.

Design
Moving beyond comfort and fit, Springfield Armory® explores new territory in tactile response. With the introduction of The (M) Factor™, Springfield’s reputation in ergonomics, intuitive operation, and handling is taken to a whole new level.

(M)ega-Lock Texture
The “all-terrain” look of the new XD(M)™ isn’t about cosmetics, it’s about function.
The angle and depth of each contour in the grip has been calculated for maximized control vertically, horizontally and torsionally. [Zoom]

(M)ajor Grasp Slide Serrations
Deeper, longer, and more slide serrations equals a better more penetrating grasp. New! 3.8 model with slip resistent slide serrations.

(M)odel Contour Frame: The ideal grip angle of the XD® has been carried over to the XD(M)™, but slightly modified contours in the grip will leave you wondering whether you’re gripping the gun or it’s gripping you.

Technology
Advances in manufacturing allow Springfield to take the XD(M)™ series to a whole new level in precision. With an incredible attention to detail, no handgun company approaches precision engineering like Springfield Armory®.

(M)atch Grade Barrel
Rivaling aerospace manufacturing, the XD(M)™ match-grade barrel takes precision manufacturing to a whole new level never available within the firearms industry.

(M)inimal Reset Trigger
The new XD(M)™ trigger has the shortest travel than any currently available polymer pistol along with a similarly short reset which keeps you on target with greater ease for faster, more accurate follow-up shots.

(M)elonite
The rugged Melonite® finish on the XD(M)™ is a salt bath nitriding process that leaves a thick, corrosion-resistant, hard surface. Traditional black oxide finishes are a few millionths of an inch thick and offer no corrosion resistance.

Innovations
The same spirit of innovation that fueled the success of the XD® is now captured in the all new XD(M)™ line of polymer pistols. From subtle influences to industry firsts, the XD(M)™ series pushes the boundaries on what a polymer pistol should be.

(M)aximum Reach Magazine Release
The modified contour of the new XD(M)™ grip is most evident near the magazine release. Operation of the magazine release is easily accomplished by virtually any size hand without twisting or adjusting from the shooting grip.

(M)inimal Error Disassembly
Innovation doesn’t always happen by adding to a product. Sometimes, it’s what you simplify. By removing the need to pull the trigger during assembly, we’ve made the process easier and faster.

(M)ega Capacity Magazine
The XD(M)™ is the largest capacity production polymer pistol in both the .40 caliber and 9MM, respectively, accommodating 16+1 and 19+1 rounds.

Personalization
Usually, handgun customization is an after-market decision. With the XD(M)™, you get more personalized choices for a custom fit right out of the case.

(M)ould-Tru Backstraps
With our interchangeable backstraps, we’ve added another level of comfort. Personalize your grip by choosing one of three backstraps for a more custom fit. [Zoom]

(M)ulti-Adjust Rail System™
A triple-position Picatinney rail readily accepts lights, lasers or other accessories. More importantly, it allows them to be adjusted to the shooter’s hand position. [Zoom]

(M)ulti-Use Carrying Case
Your total XD(M)™ experience starts the day you open your case. In fact, it starts with your case. This rugged case is as durable as the XD(M)™ it houses and can be re-tasked to protect any number of items from a laptop to multiple XD(M)™ pistols

The Standards
In 2001, Springfield Armory® set out to show its customers, the firearms industry, and the rest of the world a whole new standard in ergonomic design and available features.
With the introduction of the XD® polymer pistol, they did just that.

Loaded Chamber Indicator
The loaded chamber indicator allows the shooter to verify visually or by touch, and without a doubt, that there is a round in the chamber.

Striker Status Indicator
The shooter can check the striker status indicator by sight or touch to verify the striker is in the cocked position.

Grip Safety
Allows it to fire only when the shooter has a firm grip on the pistol.

USA Trigger System™
The Ultra Safety Assurance USA Trigger System™ guards against accidental discharge from dropping or bumping by locking the XD’s trigger in place until direct, rearward pressure is applied. [Zoom]

More Specs:

Quick Specs At A Glance: Springfield Armory XDM 3.8

Caliber: 9mm

Barrel: 3.8-inch melonite, fully supported ramp

Sights: Dovetail front and rear (steel) 3-Dot

Trigger Pull: 5.5-7.7. pounds

Frame: Black Polymer

Slide: Forged Steel

Overall Length: 7-inches

Height: 5.6 inches

Weight w/empty mag: 27.5 oz.

Available Colors: Black, Bi-tone, SS/Black

High-capacity magazines not available in all states.

Optional fiber optic sights “coming soon”

George Washington ordered the creation of Springfield Armory® in 1777 to store revolutionary ammunition and gun carriages. In 1794 the armory began the manufacture of muskets for a young country. For the next 150 years, Springfield Armory® functioned as a supplier for every major American conflict as well as a “think tank” for new firearm concepts. In 1968, citing budgetary concerns, the U.S. Government closed Springfield Armory®. Now, the walls of Springfield Armory® would house historians, paying homage to the past rather than those with an eye to the future…until 1974, when a passionate family by the name of Reese would rescue not only the name “Springfield Armory®,” but the philosophy that drove it for centuries. With reverence for the legacy of the Armory, the Reese family resurrected the most historically significant designs produced by The Armory- M1 Garand, 1911-A1, M14 –and fueled by the same obsession for improved manufacturing techniques and cutting edge design that inspired the likes of John C. Garand, and John Browning, they’ve continued to develop products that are loyal to Springfield Armory’s heritage while ensuring The Armory’s

Hat Tip: Georgetown, TX - -(AmmoLand.com)- New introductions that will be available prior to the SHOT Show are the Escort, Guardian, and Off Duty in .40S&W. No price change for the caliber differences even though the magazines are more expensive. We’ll also be able to provide the GP6 & GP6-C with a 5″ barrel. We’re taking orders for them all now, too.

As MUST happen when we start adding new firearms to the product line, something has to go to make room for them. As you’re aware, the “TruSight” has already bitten the dust! Even though we recently gotten some excellent press coverage on the Rogue, we intend to build only one more run of approximately 20 pieces. If this one “trips yer trigger”, you need to get your order entered soon. Further candidates (no decision ‘til the end of the year) are those perennially on the list, the 6 inch Trojan and the Lawman. Because we’ve got 8-12 potential new products, we’ve got to make some decisions soon. I think the new models will intrigue you greatly but we’ll hold those for the “SHOT Show Surprise”.

The owners’ manual for the “Sporting” and “Tactical” rifles is on the website. Those items are still selling very well. Well enough that we’re able to reduce the price on both. Check with your contact here, or your Distributor, for the new price structure.

Increased foreign manufacturing costs and the weakening U.S. $ will necessitate a minor price increase on our imported products, the GP6, GP6-C, and the Spartan. These won’t happen all at once but will phase in as contracts are renewed. We’ll probably be increasing prices on the LS9 and on select 1911 and 2011 parts, also, as of January 1, 2010. Old prices are good until we publish a price list dated 1/1/10.

As they say on late night TV, “back by popular demand”, you’ll start seeing the previously discontinued “2011″ single stack polymer grip making a comeback. This is proving necessary due to the number of folks that want to use our (and other manufacturers) .22LR top ends and the number of countries and states that have 10 round only laws.

We still can’t keep up with the demand for the 1911 & 2011 .22LR conversion kits but we’re pushin’ as hard as we can. Just as a preliminary forecast, it looks like our total product output will be up a few points over 30% by the end of this year.

Come see us at the SHOT Show- Booth #3221

Sell a bunch. Have fun. Do good. Not necessarily in that order!

Dave Skinner

About STI:
The company who brought to life “the Gun that Won the West” is the same company who today continues to supply sportsmen with the best sporting ammunition in the world.

In December, 1980, the company’s board of directors authorized the restructuring of the Winchester Group to allow Olin to better focus more of the company’s resources on Winchester’s sporting and defense ammunition business. With this restructuring, Winchester’s U.S. sporting arms business, which had been part of the company for nearly half a century, was set up as a freestanding operation. In July, 1981, it was sold to the U.S. Repeating Arms Company in New Haven, Connecticut, which now produces Winchester brand rifles and shotguns under license from Olin Corporation.

In 1991, Olin’s Winchester Division again played a part during a war. When the Persian Gulf War broke out, Winchester provided a large amount of the ammunition used by U.S. troops during this conflict.
Tags: Smith & Wesson

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Smith & Wesson Corp., the legendary 157-year old firearms maker, announced that it has begun shipping both full-size and compact M&P pistols, in all calibers, with an optional frame-mounted thumb safety. Originally available only on the M&P45, the optional frame-mounted thumb safety is now being offered on M&P pistols chambered in 9mm, .40 S&W and .357 SIG.

“Soon after the introduction of the full-size and compact M&P45 pistols, we began receiving requests from law enforcement professionals and recreational shooters asking for a frame mounted thumb safety on other M&P calibers,” said Leland Nichols, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Smith & Wesson. “The optional external safety provides an even broader range of choices to the M&P line, adding flexibility in order to meet the needs of our customers.”

Unlike other polymer pistols, the thumb safety on the M&P pistols acts as a passive safety device allowing the slide to be pulled toward the rear, clearing the firearm without disengaging the safety. The external safety on the M&P, like many of the other standard features, is ambidextrous, providing easy operation for both left and right-handed shooters. The M&P pistol is manufactured on a Zytel® polymer frame, which is reinforced with a ridged stainless steel chassis. The M&P pistol also features a through-hardened black Melonite® finished stainless steel barrel and slide for added durability, a sear release lever – an important safety feature – that eliminates the need to press the trigger in order to disassemble the firearm, an ambidextrous slide stop and a reversible magazine release.

The pistol’s innovative design is further enhanced with three interchangeable grip sizes, allowing the user to customize the grip size to his or her preference. A loaded chamber indicator is located on top of the slide and an internal lock system is optional for both working professionals and recreational shooters. The M&P compact pistols in 9mm, .40 S&W and .357 SIG are standard with a 3.5-inch barrel while the full-size pistols feature a 4.25-inch barrel. The M&P Pistol Series utilizes a steel dovetail mount front sight and a steel low profile rear sight. Tritium sights are also available for low light conditions. A universal Picatinny-style equipment rail has been incorporated for tactical lights and lasers.

About Smith & Wesson
Charter Arms – Revolvers

Charter Arms, Dayton, OH --(AmmoLand.com)- Charter Arms announces the Charter Arms Rimless Revolver (CARR) a revolutionary new rimless revolver for popular semi-auto cartridges.

Problem: The major drawback to rimless semi-auto cartridges in revolvers is they require specially made revolvers. These low-production, somewhat scarce and, highly-specialized revolvers are limited to sometimes fragile and expensive moon/half moon ammunition clips. Generally, only revolver aficionados and collectors bother with (.45ACP and 9mm Parabellum) rimless revolvers. While they may sometimes be fired without the specialized moon clips, generally the ejector rod will not eject the free-floating fired cases (got a pencil?).

Solution: Charter Arms has come up with an affordable revolver that chambers rimless semi-auto rounds in the same manner as a standard rimmed-cartridge revolver.

Available Calibers: Charter Arms will first offer the .40 S&W chambering, followed quickly by the .45ACP and 9×19 mm Parabellum (the 9mm Parabellum revolver will also chamber factory .380ACP). All three of Charter Arms’ Rimless Revolvers (9mm, .40 and .45) are rated for higher velocity +P loadings.

Availability:
The first to be built will be the .40 caliber (currently there is no .40 available in any revolver). Charter Arms plan is the .40 should ship to distributors the first quarter of 2009. Some 90-120 days after the .40 the .45ACP will follow and some 90-120 days after the .45ACP the 9mm will follow

The advantage is now the average gun owner can own an affordable, trouble-free revolver chambered in these popular semi-auto rounds without the need for specialized ammunition clips and a specialized gun.

Back up and self-defense: For law enforcement work the always ready-to-fire, fiddle-factor-free revolver is the back up to have; especially if is the same caliber as the officer’s carry gun. As a primary self-defense carry gun, these three calibers mean reliable protection in popular semi-auto self defense-calibers.

If more power is needed, step up to +P ammo. The advantage with Charter Arms Rimless Revolvers is they will fire any mix of cartridges while maintaining 100% reliability. For plinking with .45ACP or 9mm surplus and discounted military type ammo, the affordable Charter Arms Rimless Revolver will prove to be very economical and it’s also a .380 revolver. Now that is fun!

The secret is the patent-pending Charter Arms Rimless Revolver Round System. Basically, when a round is loaded into the chamber a specialized spring engages the cartridge’s ejector groove. When the cylinder is opened and the ejector rod operated, it extracts and ejects the fired cases.

Models: Initially snubbarrels (2″ 9mm and 2.2″ .40 and .45ACP) as these revolvers are designed for self- defense and back up. The 9mm is built on Charter Arms’ compact and lightweight undercover platform featuring an aluminum frame and weighing only 12 ounces. The .40 and .45ACP built on the popular and robust Bulldog frame due to the larger diameter of these cartridges while maintaining a compact profile.

Availability: First quarter of 2009.

Warrantee: Charter Arms has an industry exclusive lifetime warranty on its revolvers.

MSRP Prices: 9mm $399.00, .40 $449.00, .45ACP $449.00

Brought to you by - AMMO LAND.COM – The Free Press Release Service for the Shooting Industry! <a
