AUSTIN, Texas --(Ammoland.com)- The American Deer & Wildlife Alliance (ADWA) is proud to announce it has renewed its title sponsorship of Keith Warren’s Deer & Wildlife Stories for 2011.
Deer & Wildlife Stories kicks off its third season this week on the Pursuit Channel. For a quick preview of the upcoming season, visit http://keithwarren.net/?p=819
“Deer farming is one of the fastest growing industries in rural America, and it’s a fun and profitable. Yet, like most farmers and ranchers, deer farmers today face many challenges, not the least of which is education. Deer farming has been in this country since around 1908, but there are still many people who do not appreciate the unique and significant benefits to wildlife and agriculture that raising deer provide,” says John Meng, president of the American Deer & Wildlife Alliance. “Deer & Wildlife Stories is helping to tell that story, and we’re proud to be the title sponsor again this year.”
Keith Warren’s Deer & Wildlife Stories airs three times a week on the Pursuit Channel, showing on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., Friday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 12 a.m. All times are EST.
“Raising deer is a great business and it’s a lot of fun,” says Keith Warren, host and producer of the Deer & Wildlife Stories. “This season, we’re showing a new side of the deer industry and it’s not just about raising deer. It’s about the people who enjoy their lives and a lifestyle connected with nature. This is going to be an incredible season.”
The American Deer & Wildlife Alliance is a non-profit organization working to promote the deer and wildlife industry and to preserve our American outdoor traditions. As a part of its public education efforts, ADWA produces Points Journal, a full-color magazine covering industry news, wildlife management issues, products and services; Spikes Magazine, a quarterly youth publication distributed to summer camps and public libraries across the country; iHuntAmerica.com website, a comprehensive search engine for hunting ranches, game preserves and outfitters; and BuckBreeders.com, a search engine for deer farmers and exotic game ranchers.
ADWA also sponsors Keith Warren’s Deer & Wildlife Stories, a nationally broadcast television program on the Pursuit Channel, and the Outdoor Patriot, a monthly podcast which features commentary and industry guests.

We, as a society and an industry, must work now to ensure that wildlife stewardship and outdoor participation exists 10, 20 and 30 years from now. At this year’s event, Wildlife Analytical Laboratories (<a

In addition to the hunt, children also received free duck calls, scent-masking sticks from Trophy Blend Scents, ADWA caps and a chance to win a free hunt at the ADWA Youth Safari Camp opening later this spring.

“It was a pleasure to be at this event,” says Henry Chidgey, owner of Wildlife Analytical Laboratories. “I very much enjoyed the opportunity to share some of our passion and knowledge about wildlife stewardship with the young folks and I really want to compliment ADWA and the work they do.”

The American Deer & Wildlife Alliance is a non-profit organization working to promote the deer and wildlife industry and to preserve our American outdoor traditions. NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas --(AmmoLand.com)- Host of the popular Deer & Wildlife Stories outdoor program, Keith Warren received wide-sweeping gratitude and praise for his public support for the deer farming industry at the annual North American Deer Farmers Association (NADeFA) Conference held last week in Toledo, Ohio.
Warren was a guest speaker at the event and has been a longtime proponent of the deer industry.
“Preserving our outdoor lifestyle and agricultural pursuits is extremely important, and I’m very proud to promote the state and national organizations which are working every day to improve the quality of our deer herds across North America,” says Keith Warren.
“Our Deer & Wildlife Stories program is informative and educational as we address issues such as deer overpopulation, habitat management and conservation. Whitetail deer are undeniably the star of the show, but we also feature many of the hard-working men, women and their families who make up this exciting and growing industry.”
The NADeFA Annual Conference was held in Toledo, Ohio, and featured more than 250 exhibitors and nearly 1,000 deer farmers, elk breeders and other wildlife professionals from across North America. In addition to special guest speakers like Warren, the event hosted several fund-raising auctions, educational seminars, antler and photo contests, dart gun competition, venison tasting competitions, and much more.
According to Economic Impact Study of the United States Cervid Farming Industry by Texas A&M University, the deer (aka cervid) industry includes nearly 10,000 facilities, mostly in rural areas of the nation. and generates $3 billion of economic activity while supporting nearly 30,000 jobs. These results highlight the fact that the cervid farming industry continues to be a vital contributor to the rural economies of the United States.
One of outdoor television’s most outspoken celebrities, Warren has been an advocate for outdoor participation for more than 25 years. Through his television programs, special guest appearances across the country, Facebook and other venues, Warren stresses to sportsmen the importance of ‘taking the High Road,” not only within the industry, but in their every day lives as well. The High Road is a positive message that focuses on the privileges that Americans enjoy because of those that blazed the trail of freedom. He recently received the 2009 Sportsman’s Choice Award at the Sportsman Channel’s annual awards ceremony during the Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show.
Keith Warren’s Deer & Wildlife Stories is sponsored by the American Deer & Wildlife Alliance (ADWA) and kicked off its second season earlier this year on the Pursuit Channel. title="AmmoLand Supports Hunt For The Hungry" href="http://www.huntforthehungry.com/?ammoland" target="_blank">www.huntforthehungry.com) in Green Bay, Wis. ADWA will help pay for processing and packaging costs of venison going to families in need, and encourages other groups and individual sportsmen to support similar programs across the country with their deer or cash donations.

Many states that have seen increased donations after the state’s offered financial incentives for the venison processing. For example, Ohio hunters last year more than double the previous year’s donation total, providing venison for 220,000 meals. However, not every state is seeing the increased deer donations. The annual Hunt for the Hungry program in Green Bay, Wis., reports its deer donations are down 50 percent from last year.

“While this is not a holiday story anyone wants to hear, more people in the United States, including children, are going hungry than ever before in history, according to the recent U.S. Department of Agriculture’s “Household Food Security” report,” says John Meng, president of the American Deer & Wildlife Alliance. “We wanted to take a more direct approach and help promote venison donations to pantries. Processing and packaging costs can deter some hunters, especially in tough economic times, but ADWA and others are working to offset those expenses.”

The annual USDA report stated that 17 million American households — 14.6% — were “food insecure” in 2008, the highest level observed since the report was first undertaken in 1995. The numbers represent 49 million Americans, including nearly 17 million children.

“More people are coming in to get help with food this year, but the number of hunters donating venison is down,” says Lee Dude, who founded Hunt for the Hungry in 1995. “I imagine hunters are keeping deer to feed their own families and help their friends in need. We greatly appreciate ADWA’s support.”

Founded in 1995, Hunt for the Hungry processed 1,375 deer and more than 140,000 pounds of deer and wild game meat for needy families in 2008. Hunt for the Hungry is also part of the Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry network.

ADWA partners with companies and organizations within the deer and wildlife industry to promote products, services, membership benefits and overall growth of the industry through youth and public education. class="wp-caption-text">American Deer & Wildlife Alliance

AUSTIN, Texas – -(AmmoLand.com)- Education is key in getting today’s youth motivated to turn off their electronics and venture into the outdoors. The American Deer and Wildlife Alliance (ADWA) supports the mission of getting kids motivated and interested in the outdoors and is proud to announce its sponsorship of the Deer in School educational program, a joint venture that brings live whitetail deer to more than 20,000 public school children in Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin.

Founded by Steve Porter from Lake Bronson, Minn., the Deer in School program features live trophy whitetail to educate students about deer behavior, antler development, life cycles of the whitetail deer and hunting techniques. By turning kids onto the deer and wildlife industry, he firmly believes that it will keep kids out of trouble by giving them positive things to do in their free time. Porter believes that young adults who participate in outdoor activities are less apt to get into trouble and is willing to take his vacation time to motivate kids to get outdoors.

The Porter family and their trophy bucks are on the road for four weeks visiting schools in the three states during the months of September and October. The Porter project gives a presentation about the deer industry and provided an antler collection that was impressive even to the most cynical of 16-year-olds. Porter’s presentations touches on a wide range of deer and hunting topics, including deer behavior, antler development and the family bonds formed when families hunt and farm together

The Deer in School program provides students with a rare chance of seeing a whitetail buck up-close, ask questions and touch the vast antler collection. The live bucks provided an excellent learning experience for the students and left them memories they will not soon forget.

“This was the coolest presentation I’ve ever seen done at a school,” says Tracy Hudin, a high school teacher in Eden Valley, Minn. Hudin noted that many teachers were simply amazed by Porter’s ability to hold the attention of high school students for the full 50-minute presentation since they know all too well how difficult a task it really is.

The Deer in School program visits 20 schools which receive grant money from the Cervid Livestock Foundation, Whitetails of Wisconsin, Minnesota Deer Breeders Association, North Dakota Ranchers Association, the American Deer & Wildlife Alliance and several other deer farming associations. Even some of the local sportsmen’s clubs donated money for the project to come to their nearby schools! These groups focus on and realize the importance of introducing kids to the outdoors at a young age.

The Porter project helps facilitate the missions’ of ADWA and the Cervid Livestock Foundation of educating the general public and youth about the deer and wildlife industries. The Cervid Livestock Foundation (CLF) is the research and education foundation of the North American Deer Farmers Association (NADeFA). For more information on the CLF visit www.nadefa.org.

For more information on the American Deer & Wildlife Foundation and/or the American Deer & Wildlife Alliance and/or to become a member, please call 877.331.8607 or visit www.deerwildlifealliance.org.

About:
American Deer & Wildlife Alliance

AUSTIN, Texas – -(AmmoLand.com)-The American Deer & Wildlife Alliance has announced its support of the Exotic Wildlife Association and its appeal of a ruling by Federal Judge Henry Kennedy Jr. of the U.S. District Court, Washington, DC that threatens the extinction of three rare antelope species which have prospered in the United States.

In July 2009, Judge Kennedy ruled that scimitar-horned oryx, dama gazelle and addax that are born and raised in the United States will no longer be exempted from their listing on the endangered species list. The ruling overturns a special rule put in place by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Department that allowed the three antelope species to be born, raised and freely traded in the United States without the USFWD permitting process.

As a result, ranchers who have owned and managed these animals for years will be required to cease all breeding, transport, culling or other management activities without explicit approval from the federal government.

“Private conservation has made a huge contribution to the worldwide preservation of these animals, but this ruling literally threatens the survival of these species,” says John Meng, president of the American Deer & Wildlife Alliance. “The population growth of these animals while we’ve operated under the special ruling is dramatic and undeniable proof of the success of game ranches in managing these animals. But that success has only been because these animals have value during times in which the herd must be culled. If a rancher is required to get approval by the federal government to perform routine game management, then these animals will become a burden rather than an asset. No one will want them and their numbers will decline.”

A perfect example of how successful the special rules exemption has been to the species’ survival is the scimitar-horned oryx. While these animals are practically non-existent in the wild, there are currently thousands of these animals being cared for and raised on preserves and ranches across the country. In fact, breeding programs have become so successful that EWA members are now working to reintroduce the species into their native countries. But this effort will cease under the judge’s ruling.

“The ruling by Judge Kennedy is nothing more than a death warrant on these three antelope species,” adds Meng. “We strongly urge sportsmen and anyone who loves animals to join the EWA in its fight to save these animals.”

The American Deer & Wildlife Alliance urges all sportsmen and wildlife enthusiasts to contact their federal representative and the EWA to voice their support for saving these magnificent animals. More importantly, please donate to the Save Exotic Wildlife Fund, call 830.367.7761, email saveanimals@exoticwildlifeassociation.com or visit http://www.exoticwildlifeassociation.com.

ADWA is a non-profit organization dedicated to growing the deer and wildlife industries through education and public awareness. ADWA works closely with companies, organizations, wildlife managers and professionals within the industry for the promotion and advancement of the industry as a whole. ADWA is also the title sponsor of Keith Warren’s Deer & Wildlife Stories program that debuted earlier this year on the Outdoor Channel. In its youth activities, the American Deer & Wildlife Alliance works through the American Deer & Wildlife Foundation, a 501c(3) non-profit organization, to provide outdoor education to the youth and promote youth participation in the outdoors. The Foundation produces a youth publication, Spikes Magazine, hosts and sponsors youth educational classes and events, and organizes ’first’ and affordable hunting opportunities.

About:<br

The American Deer & Wildlife Alliance (ADWA) announces a partnership with the Pennsylvania Deer Farmers Association (PDFA) in pursuit of growing the deer industry in North America.

As one of the largest state deer associations, PDFA is instrumental in protecting landowners, breeders and ranchers rights to raise and hunt deer on the land they own. “Now that our industry has 250”+ deer available to hunt we can add the World Wide Big Game revenues to the $15 billion dollar deer industry. Each year we just need a small percentage of those total dollars to shift our industry, and the numbers are huge. Our industry can do nothing but grow. There will be economic ups and downs but our greatest enemy will be legislation and regulations that will negatively impact our industry,” says Dave Griffith, President of the Pennsylvania Deer Farmers Association.

“We feel it is more important than ever to protect our rights as hunters, landowners and deer breeders,” adds ADWA director of operations Annie Jones. “ADWA encourages our industry to support organizations such as PDFA and NADeFA in looking out for our collective rights, and in their understanding that more exposure for deer and elk breeders can only benefit those who have felt marginalized in the national press.”

Pennsylvania is currently ranked no. 2 in commercial deer and elk farms, no. 3 in deer and elk sold, no. 4 in total deer and elk farms, and no. 5 in total deer and elk kept. Deer farms can be found in 60 of 67 counties in the state, and elk farms can be found in 30 counties. 82% of deer and elk farms have been created since 1990, indicating a fast-growing industry. Jones adds, “Soon people will see this move from a ‘niche farm sector’ to a mainstream one, as a bright future lies ahead. Its $40.3 million of direct farm receipts compare nicely with other farm sectors for which Pennsylvania is well-known.”

According to surveys pointed to in studies, Pennsylvania’s deer and elk farms expect to reach $47.1 million in sales by 2010, up from $16.8 million in 2001. This growth is a factor of varied industry trends, beginning with the diversity of enterprises and products involved. Deer and elk farms turn out a broad array of products and services, ranging from deer urine to venison meat. Services offered include hunting, breeding stock and tourism-related activities.

To support the Pennsylvania Deer Farmers Association, and to learn more about their economic impact on the state, please visit www.padfa.com .

ADWA partners with companies and organizations within the industry to promote their products, services, membership benefits and overall growth of the industry through education and aggressive public relations. Serving as a ‘PR engine’ for its members, ADWA combines the benefits of marketing and education to inspire credibility among consumers and unity within the industry. ADWA announces its latest sponsor, Horn Heaven Ranch, who reflects the importance of both issues dear to sportsmen across the nation.

“Public response to ADWA’s latest show on the Outdoor Channel, Deer & Wildlife Stories, has confirmed public interest in this industry,” says ADWA director of operations Annie Jones. “Horn Heaven Ranch is a great example of the hard work breeders take in taking care of their land and making the best possible environment for their deer.”

Located in South Texas, Horn Heaven Ranch and Horn Heaven Whitetails have developed a haven for outstanding genetics and breeding programs. Boasting deer with long documented lines of origin and breeding backgrounds, some of their finest deer come from the most famous breeder buck lines in Texas. “We offer everything from breeder bucks, does, fawns and a stocker program – we even have dove and quail hunt packages.” says Aubrey Thoede of Horn Heaven Ranch. “Keith Warren and ADWA are doing positive things for the deer industry, and we are proud to support their efforts.” Horn Heaven Ranch is delivering bred doe through April 2009, using bucks on over 400 doe this year, earning them the top insemination facility in the country.

To learn more about Horn Heaven Ranch, please visit <a

The family farm has become one of the nation’s premier breeding operations, famous for their deer herd composed of several breeder bucks that score in excess of 250”.
