With the piston system, the propellant gases that are being diverted by the gas block into the operating system, are instead vented at the gas block.

Since the fouling from the gas system is being vented, the action it stays cooler and cleaner. This system is designed around short stroke piston operation. PSL Romanian PSL-54C 7.62x54R Rifle

Inlcudes LPS TIP2 scope and mount, 2-10rd magazines, magazine pouch, field cleaning kit, and optic case.

Typical SPECS: (Does not necessarily describe the above AimSurplus PSL Romanian PSL-54C 7.62x54R Rifle)

The PSL receiver is a stamped sheet metal design which has reinforcements below the barrel trunion and at the rear cut-out to prevent cracks due to the strong recoil. The gas system is like an AK series with the gas piston being attached to the bolt carrier.

The ROMAK (Anian Vtomat Alashnikov)3′s imported were made at the Regia Autonoma de Tehnicå Militarå (RATMIL)and had their bayonet lugs removed to meet import restrictions. After a consolidation of military arsenals when Romania joined NATO, production of the PSL is now at the ARMS arsenal in Cugir, Romania and is completely retooled with all brand new state-of-the-art modern equipment purchased from Belgium and Croatia.

Romanian version of the PSO-1 which has no battery compartment. It is designated LPS 4×6° TIP2. These scopes are manufactured by IOR and have very high quality lenses. The reticle is illuminated by mildly radioactive tritium. Almost all scopes that came with commercial PSL’s have dead or expired tritium so don’t expect to see the reticle in low light. These scopes are normally equipped with a rubber shock absorbing eye piece and a front rubber cover which is held to the scope by a rubber collar around the scope tube.

Internals of this rifle also differ considerably from the Dragunov design. The PSL, with it’s stamped steel receiver, has trigger and hammer components that will be very familliar to AK-type owners. The Dragunov design, on the otherhand, has a trigger assembly that removes as a unit from the receiver. More information can be found in the FAQ. The gas system on the ROMAK 3 consists of the gas piston and bolt carrier which is one piece, also similar to the AK series rifles. The buttstock is made from laminated wood and differs from the SVD by having a cheek pad designed into the comb. The SVD has a detachable leather cheek pad.

A GP WASR-10 is a Romanian semi-automatic AKM (aka AK-47) clone. This version of the rifle has a pistol grip and can accept Hi-capacity magazines because the receiver was milled out.

The end of the barrel has threads, a bayonet lug, and comes with a muzzle brake. It uses the standard AK-47 7.62*39 cartridge.

The fit and finish of this rifle is average; this rifle has wood similar to the SAR and some minor machining marks. The glaring disadvantage of this rifle is some machining burrs on the mag-well should be removed with a file because it causes some magazines to fit tightly. Also this rifle lacks the dimples for to keep the Hi-capacity magazines from wobbling side to side, and instead have plates welding inside the receiver.

This rifle has 10 Imported parts and 5 US parts. The advantages of this rifle are its reliability, cheap ammo, large selection of replacement parts, accepts single and double stack magazines, comes with a threaded barrel, and now has a bayonet lug.

This is a good starter AK and is great if you cannot find a SAR-1, want to save some money, or want an AK that accepts both single and double stack magazines with all the post AW ban features.

During the long history of the Mosin Nagant design a number of countries have produced 7.62x54r ammunition in a wide variety of types. Many of these have been imported to the United States and are found at relatively cheap prices compared to commercial ammo. Although the types of surplus readily at hand change on a regular basis there hasn’t been a time recently when 7.62x54r was completely unavailable. Several commercial firms are also currently producing 7.62x54r in a variety of loads. Shooters seldom have to worry about finding Mosin Nagant ammo as they did in the past, but the problem now is deciding which ammo to buy. There are several factors to consider when making the decision, although each rifle will have a “preference”. Some shooters experience sticky extraction with lacquer coated cases and avoid them at all costs while others find some of these loads to be the most accurate. Others are limited to lead core by the rules of the ranges they use and even steel jacketed bullets are not allowed in some cases. Lighter bullets generate less recoil and can make extended range sessions with lighter rifles and carbines more pleasant.
