Illinois Proposed "Assault Weapons Ban" is Back & the Fight Is On

Illinois --(Ammoland.com)- Chicago legislators once again are trying to rule over gun owners statewide.

The outrageous “Assault Weapons Ban” is back via State Rep. Eddie Acevedo who represents District 2 in Chicago. HB1294 is a repeat effort to ban just about every sporting and self-defense gun owned in Illinois, along with magazines holding more than 10 rounds, unless of course you still have the receipt from when you bought the gun or magazine some 15-20-30 years ago.

This is another attempt by Chicago and Cook County’ to prevent law-abiding citizens from exercising their Second Amendment rights.

Anti-Gun IL State Rep. Eddie Acevedo, vote this guy out...

Along with HB1294, Acevedo also introduced HB1599, increasing the penalty of being in possession of high capacity ammunition when commenting an offense – what’s that you say? What’s high capacity ammunition? Apparently it is anything 50 caliber or larger but no distinction is made between pistol, rifle, or shotgun ammo.

All shotgun ammo over .410 would be banned.

Acevedo’s trio of atrocities against gun owners includes HB1855 which would penalize the victims of gun theft by barring them from owning firearms permanently if they didn’t report a theft within 72 hours of knowing about it – but who is to determine when someone knew or should have know about a theft? There in lies the danger.

Call your State Representative TODAY! Tell him/her to vote NO on HB1294, HB1599, and HB1855.

Here is the relevant information – The hearing will be held on Monday 1/30/2012 at 2:00 p.m. in Committee Room 16, 4th Floor, State House Annex in Trenton. I realize this is short notice but I only recently found out about the hearing.

The text enclosed between the STARS(***) and in BOLD is the offensive addition. The rest is the statutes as it currently is written:

N.J.S.2C:39-3 is amended to read as follows:…

…Dum-dum or body armor penetrating bullets.

(1) Any person, other than a law enforcement officer or persons engaged in activities pursuant to subsection f. of N.J.S.2C:39-6, who knowingly has in his possession any hollow nose or dum- dum bullet, or (2) any person, other than a collector of firearms or ammunition as curios or relics as defined in Title 18, United States Code, section 921 (a) (13) and has in his possession a valid Collector of Curios and Relics License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, who knowingly has in his possession any body armor breaching or penetrating ammunition, which means: (a) ammunition primarily designed for use in a handgun, and (b) which is comprised of a bullet whose core or jacket, if the jacket is thicker than .025 of an inch, is made of tungsten carbide, or hard bronze, or other material which is harder than a rating of 72 or greater on the Rockwell B. Hardness Scale, and (c) is therefore capable of breaching or penetrating body armor,

or (3) any person, other than a law enforcement officer, who knowingly has in his possession handgun ammunition which (a) has a full metal jacket and an ogive with a steel penetrator tip followed by an aluminum core and is 1 therefore capable of breaching or penetrating body armor, or (b) after testing, the Attorney General determines poses a threat to the safety and well being of law enforcement officers because of the materials, be they metallic or nonmetallic, used in its composition or because its ogive, core or jacket are of a design, construction or formulation which makes it capable of breaching or penetrating body armor,

is guilty of a crime of the fourth degree. For purposes of this section, a collector may possess not more than three examples of each distinctive variation of the ammunition described above. A distinctive variation includes a different head stamp, composition, design, or color…

There are SEVERAL things wrong with the statute in general and this addition in particular.

• FIRST – since it is becoming clearer by the day that New Jersey residents may be required to defend themselves from such acts as gang violence and home invasions, there is NO reason that law-abiding individuals should be prohibited from possessing the EXACT SAME firearms and ammunition used by the police. If a gang member wants to invade your home and is wearing a bullet proof vest – you have EVERY LEGITIMATE REASON in the WORLD to have firearms and ammunition capable of piercing a vest!
• SECOND – The Attorney General should NOT be given the BROAD power to determine what is and what is not acceptable for a law-abiding individual to possess. The law-abiding are not the problem as *THEY* will not shoot at a police officer and criminals will not abide by this law and will have easy access to this ammunition in the majority of the states where it is considered completely legal for lawful firearms owner to possess it.

This is simply another example of FEEL-GOOD legislation that does ABSOLUTELY *NOTHING* to protect the police *OR* the public, but which *DOES* infringe on a law-abiding individual’s right to keep and bear arms for legitimate purposes.

SS109AP Green Tip Bullets

Trenton, NJ --(Ammoland.com)-  On Friday afternoon January 27th, news broke on various social networks that four Northern New Jersey autocratic Assembly members snuck two new sweeping and completely unnecessary anti-gun bills onto the calendar of the Law and Public Safety Committee for Monday January 30th.

Assembly Bill A588 concerns a new ammunition ban, cleverly disguised and marketed for the protection of Law Enforcement, but granting unprecedented powers to an unelected official, in the form of the State Attorney General; to unilaterally ban any ammunition, of any type or construction, including incredibly enough, benign plastic “BB’s “of the type used by Airsoft Toys, if the Attorney General deems them a “threat to the safety or welfare of Law Enforcement “.

When reached for comments over the rationale and reasoning for such an onerous proposal, an aide to one of the sponsors claimed the bill was only concerned with banning a particular type of round, the FN 5.7 caliber SS109AP Armor Piercing one, fired from the FN Pistol, due to its concerns that the round in question can penetrate multiple layers of Kevlar Bullet Resistant Vests most commonly issued to Police Officers. Ignore for the moment the blatant and almost certainly Un Constitutional vesting of near omnipotent regulatory powers in an unelected and unaccountable Official in favor of focusing on the concerns over the ammunition specifically referenced in the Statement and the language of the proposed legislation in general.

The Statement portion of the proposal, which briefly explains the sponsors reasoning, appears on its face to target only the SS109AP 5.7 round.

A round which is already restricted by both NJ State and Federal Law to Law Enforcement and Military personnel.

This is readily apparent from the description of the type of round in question, with the AP initials standing for, quite obviously, its designation as an Armor Piercing round. Essentially this means that the sponsors of this legislation are arguing to make an already prohibited round “more illegal “ then it already is. How this is a logical conclusion on the parts of the various Assemblypersons is anyone’s guess. More troubling is the intentionally over broad language found in the proposal that would potentially make possession of virtually any round of ammunition by a law abiding citizen a criminal offense at the whim of the Attorney General.

There are any number of common and ubiquitous rifle rounds that are used in target competitions, hunting and numerous other completely legal activities that are fully capable of penetrating standard Police Issue body armor. And as more manufacturers continue to develop and market handguns that fire a rifle caliber bullet, the threat becomes obvious. The language of the proposed legislation would most certainly grant the ability to outlaw those rounds by fiat, merely by a finding by the Attorney General that they “pose a threat to the safety and welfare of Law Enforcement Officers”. As AirSoft toys are not considered firearms under NJ law, despite the best efforts of ideological hoplophobes in the Legislature, it’s a mystery why AirSoft “BB’s” are included in the language.

At a future date the AG could conceivably issue an opinion and finding that because an AirSoft pellet might cause a red mark or “shoot someone’s eye out” that they meet the criteria of posing a threat to the safety and welfare of Law Enforcement and must therefore be banned.

Assembly Bill A1013 concerns “defaced firearms “ and is once again written so poorly as to criminalize the ownership use or possession of any firearm whose factory finish has been degraded by use, age or rust, or replaced, changed or enhanced with the application of numerous firearms finishing products such as “bluing “ chemicals or DuraCoat products. Anonymous sources that spoke to the primary sponsor of A1013 on Friday, Assemblyman and Law and Public Safety Committee Chairman Charles Mainor; told this journalist that

Assemblyman Mainor ‘s intent with A1013 was solely to deal with the criminal use of defaced firearms, meaning ones that had their serial numbers obliterated by criminals in order to frustrate any potential law enforcement investigation.

Once again, this is an act that is already a Federal Level Felony, so it remains unclear why a new law making it “more illegal “ is felt necessary.

Word from my sources is that Assemblyman Mainor intends to have the overly broad language stricken from the proposal.

In an effort to be fair in my capacity as an independent journalist, I contacted the offices of each of the sponsors of both A588 and A1013, seeking on the record comments of their reasoning and explaining that I was under a 48 hour deadline. While the various aides or spokespersons were unfailingly polite and promised to get back to me either with a statement from the sponsors or to request the sponsors contact me directly to get their opinions from the horse’s mouth as it were, not one of them actually did.

I will also be following up with the NJ State Police Public Information Officer as soon as possible to get their position on these matters, specifically A588 and whether or not there is even a concern among Law Enforcement over the already banned SS109AP round, or if this is as a solution looking for a problem that doesn’t exist. My own belief, one shared by anyone familiar with the 30 year history of draconian firearms laws is that A588 is a thinly veiled effort to perform an end run around Second Amendment rights in NJ, effectively neutering them beyond all recognition. It has long been argued by various Pro Gun Control groups, their enablers in the Legislature and their sycophants in the media that; if they cant accomplish an outright gun ban, they would pursue the next best course, efforts to ban ammunition, which if successful would render law abiding citizens firearms as useful and effective as a paperweight.

So why are certain Legislator’s pursuing this course?

Simple, they are ideological purists, smug in their sense that they know better than everyone else, and will do whatever they can, and we the Citizens allow, to force their views on others via the force of law. It’s far easier for them to blame an inanimate object and its accessories, to slander and demonize a politically incorrect segment of society and to cater to voters who get their knowledge of firearms from Hollywood. It’s about power and control, about crass political expediency and nothing more. Legislators like the sponsors of A588 count on people’s ignorance and apathy, they use deceit and misrepresentation, aided and abetted by a complicit media to ram through policies they know won’t have any meaningful effect on criminals, in favor of punishing innocent people and running roughshod over the Second Amendment.

For twenty plus years we have witnessed, ever more onerous Feel Good Anti-Gun Legislation in NJ, so that politicians can claim to be “doing something “ about violent crime, forgetting or more likely not caring the least about the fact that criminals by their very definition are predisposed to not follow the law to begin with. These policies don’t work, haven’t worked and in fact can’t work. What will pay noticeable dividends in reducing violent crime is cracking down hard on criminals that commit violent acts while possessing a firearm, including stiff, minimum mandatory sentences that will not be plea bargained away so a Prosecutor can notch another guilty plea in his or her file.

In the interim, I urge anyone reading this to contact the sponsors of both A588 and A1013, plus the members of the Law and Public Safety Committee and politely but vociferously voice your steadfast opposition to these proposals and your commitment to do everything possible to ensure their defeat in addition to any future similar legislation and those in office that come up with it, while ignoring going after criminal misuse of firearms. Even better, if at all possible given the short notice; make every effort to journey to Trenton tomorrow, Monday January 30th and voice your opposition and resolve in person during the public comment portion of the Law and Public Safety Committee hearing to be held at 2 pm.

Help Defeat Obama's Favorite Anti-Gun Republican

Colorado --(Ammoland.com)- On the evening of Monday, January 30th, in Denver, we have a chance to help get rid of one of the U.S. Senate’s worst Second Amendment votes.

Richard Mourdock is running against Indiana U.S. Senator Dick Lugar, and will be hosting a fundraiser in the Denver-Metro area.

Make no mistake about it; Lugar is THE “Tea Party” target for the 2012 primary season.

The event is being held in Downtown Denver at Maggiano’s restaurant on Monday, Jan. 30th starting at 6:30pm. The campaign is asking $1,500 per couple to attend the event.

And though I realize that’s a lot of money, it’s an EXTREMELY important race.

Here’s why:

“Republican” Senator Dick Lugar was in the news in 2011 when he called for a reinstatement of the Assault Weapons ban.

What you might not know is that this isn’t Senator Lugar’s only foray into gun control.

In fact, if there were a U.S. Senator who rivaled Democrats in calls for new gun controls, it would be Dick Lugar.

Paul Helmke, former President of the Brady Campaign, said “Sen. Lugar is one of my heroes.”

Part of that might stem from the fact that Lugar’s Press Secretary, Mark Helmke, is Paul Helmke’s brother, giving the Brady Campaign unparalleled access.

I’ve debated Paul Helmke on national TV several times. I can tell you, with certainty, that this man HATES freedom — and would love to make every firearm in America illegal.

Paul Helmke himself is a long-time Indiana political gadfly of the worst type. His alliance with the gun control elite is well-documented, as is his admiration for Dick Lugar.

The other reason the gun-banning Brady crowd loves Senator Lugar is that he has voted with them more than any Republican Senator in Senate history.

For that reason, New York’s billionaire mayor (who also leads Mayors Against Guns), Michael Bloomberg recently held a fundraiser in New York city for Dick Lugar.

The connections are just too great to ignore.

Senator Dick Lugar MUST be defeated in the Indiana primary. It has national implications, which should make any concerned gun owner in America get involved in this race.

And there are many reasons and issues to want to retire Dick Lugar from the US Senate. His disdain for the “tea party” movement (i.e. moving our government toward a more Constitutional approach and encouraging fiscal accountability from Washington) is epic.

The federal PAC I run, the National Association for Gun Rights PAC, has endorsed Richard Mourdock and maxed out to his campaign.

But we need your help as well.

So, I strongly encourage you to do one of two things:

Casper Wy Gun Banning Politicians Are At It Again

Wyoming --(Ammoland.com)- There will always be politicians who persistently work to eliminate your rights.

So it should come as no surprise that the Gun Control Cabal in Casper city government is at it again.

Within days of pushing and implementing a gun ban at city hall the Casper council has proven they will do and say anything to squash the rights of lawful gun owners.

Now the council is pushing for a law that forces citizens to be entered into a – National Facial Recognition Database -- upon lawfully selling or pawning a firearm to a local pawn shop/firearms dealer.

Their plan is to partner with a private company that specializes in biometric identification.

This is just part of a larger scheme -- these so called private entities – are being used to bypass constitutional protections that government must usually comply with.

These well funded “private sector” biometric database operations have popped up all over the country due to exorbitant funding from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

It should also be noted that the entity Casper intends to enter into agreement with – LeadsOnline – has provided “grants” on a national basis to hundreds of municipalities helping to install their data capturing systems.

As usual this big government behavior of –giving freebies– occurs when tax dollars are involved.

Of course further investigation revealed that the City of Casper has promised to implement this new biometric identification system at zero cost to the pawn/gun dealers.

Smell fishy yet?

Even more troubling –this could be “test run” before pushing for similar biometric identification in all gun stores or even all private property exchange including gold and silver.

Remember these politicians want you to believe they support your gun rights–but their actions prove otherwise.

And when you aren’t watching they are attempting to mandate systematic participation in a National I.D. system that would place lawful gun owner’s faces, names, and addresses in a biometric facial recognition network accessible only to government officials.

You and I know about these workings all to well…Lawmakers and their enforcers that would just assume to swiftly do away with your right to keep and bear arms.

Under these carefully crafted schemes you have no control over your data, and anti-gun Attorney General Eric Holder would have instant access just because you are a lawful gun owner.

Like you I have heard enough flimsy excuses and slick lawyer arguments–telling us to ignore the constitution because gun control is for our own good.

Call and email the “Republicans” that ALL voted YES on this dangerous mandate, tell them you will not forget about their actions if this becomes law.

Buckeye Firearms Foundation

Ohio --(Ammoland.com)- Last week, anti-gun New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Joyce Foundation-funded gun control group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG), staged a press conference to hype the group’s latest effort to institute a new level of gun control on law-abiding citizens. But while he supports the gun control efforts, even the City of Cleveland’s Public Safety Director admits the proposed legislation wouldn’t stop illegal sales.

According to The Washington Post, billionaire Bloomberg spent $290,000 of New York City taxpayers’ money on yet another “undercover investigation” staged far beyond the borders of his city.

In local coverage, The Cleveland Plain Dealer, citing a MAIG press release, reported that “investigators” contacted 27 “unlicensed dealers” in Ohio and found that 10 agreed to sell guns to prospective buyers who said they would likely fail a background check.

Investigators reportedly asked to meet five of the 10 sellers in person, and bought four handguns and an “assault rifle” with cash.

MAIG is using the “investigation,” which was not conducted by law enforcement but rather by private investigators, to argue for passage of legislation which would require background checks for any firearms transaction, even those between private individuals, family members, etc.

From The Cleveland Plain Dealer:

But at least one gun rights advocate in Ohio doesn’t support the legislation.

Jim Irvine, chairman of the Buckeye Firearms Association, said he doesn’t trust Mayors Against Illegal Guns and believes its ultimate goal is to outlaw private gun sales, and eventually ownership, altogether.

Irvine said the Fix Gun Checks Act would simply drive up the cost of gun sales without reducing crime.

“The criminals steal their guns,” he said. “That’s the number one way a criminal gets his gun.”

And as for the gun sellers, if 62 percent of the 125 unlicensed dealers contacted in the investigation are willing to break the law now, who’s to say they won’t still be willing to do so if the law changes, he said.

“They’re still going to sell guns to criminals if that’s what they’re doing,” Irvine said.

Indeed, even as he argued for passage of mandatory background checks, Cleveland Public Safety Director Martin Flask admitted to The Plain Dealer that “a more extensive background check requirement won’t stop street corner sales.”

There are a number of concerns about the latest MAIG press stunt:

• We’ve seen lots of incorrect information about guns coming from Mayor Bloomberg and MAIG, so how can we have confidence in anything they say/do?
• They claim that 62% of people agreed to sell guns to criminals. Was this a representative sample or did they pick people known to be likely to break the law?
• Taking their information at face value – what now? How does their proposed legislation impact violent criminals? We know most criminals steal their guns (not buy them at gun shows or online) so how is does their “solution” solve the crime problem? It does not. It simply drives up the cost of gun ownership.
• Lots of laws are broken in cars too. If we made every private sale go through a registered car dealer, would that reduce DUI’s, vehicular homicide, speeding, running red lights, failure to maintain assured clear distance? No. It would do nothing to solve “gun crime” either.
• Gun dealers can only do checks on people to whom they are selling guns. They are in the business of selling guns. Why would they want to pay an employee to stop taking care of paying customers and pay for background checks on a private sale that is potentially taking away a customer?

Instead, this legislation would serve to produce the same results we always get from Bloomberg and company proposals – driving up costs of gun ownership through red tape, hassles, and bureaucracy. The ultimate goal is fewer citizens owning guns. If Bloomberg truly wants to solve the crime problem, he should be looking at criminals.

Indeed, we have some problems with guns and crime in Ohio too – so much so that Attorney General Mike DeWine has formed a task force to address it. DeWine has repeatedly told the committee he wants them to go after the criminal, not the tool. As such, it is likely that whatever comes out of that committee will make a lot more sense, because unlike Bloomberg, DeWine’s stated goal is to reduce crime, not gun ownership.

While the tactics Bloomberg uses are bad enough, it is his hypocrisy that really takes the cake. In a December 7 blog post entitled “Bloomberg’s Private Army,” the NRA’s Wayne LaPierre noted that New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg “may have revealed the depth of his ego when was speaking to students at MIT recently.”

During the speech, he proclaimed, “I have my own army in the NYPD, which is the seventh biggest army in the world.”

Maybe the mayor really believes that, but the officers of the NYPD take an oath to the Constitution and the laws of New York, not an oath of fealty to the power-hungry occupier of City Hall. Bloomberg should also remember that a “ruler” (which is what he seems to think he is) who denies the people their Right to Keep and Bear Arms while maintaining a large “army” is apt to be viewed as a petty tyrant, not a benevolent and wise leader.

Bloomberg seems to think that it’s all about him when it comes to the idea of Right-to-Carry holders on college campuses, as well. In that same speech to MIT students, he told them that when he was in college, he and his fellow students were too “smoked up and drunk” to responsibly carry a firearm. Maybe Bloomberg didn’t realize that MIT has one of the finest collegiate rifle programs in the country, as well as an intercollegiate pistol team and a campus Rifle and Pistol Club. Clearly, the mayor should spend less time pontificating about what he thinks about the world, so he could learn something from his audience.

Anti-Gun-New-York District Attorney Kathleen Rice

Nassau, NY --(Ammoland.com)- On February 17, 2011, Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice busted five Nassau County Gun Shops.

Nine people where arrested and charge. The claim made by DA Rice at the time was, and I quote from official NC DA website,

“Rice said that shop owners were breaking the law by temporarily modifying the weapons to appear as though they lacked the required characteristics of an assault weapon.  However, the temporary modification was easily reversible, thereby making them full-fledged assault weapons. For example, a pin was placed in the stock of a weapon in an attempt to prevent its collapse. However, the pins were designed to be easily removable making the stock collapsible.”

Please remember that DA Rice received her due fanfare in the media. And all hailed her as our anti-gun savory. (Sweet for when she moves-on to higher office.)

But, there is a major flaw with the DA’s above statement. According to NYS, there is nothing in law about what the stores had done. As long as the weapons left the store in the lawful NY Compliant state, whether or nor the modifications where “easily reversible,” NO LAW WAS BROKEN by them. What the buyer did after they left the store, is not the stores fault or issue. That would be like blaming Chevy because you ran into another car because you where texting.

Even with Mr. Tretola’s videoed statements about ‘how to’ reverse the modifications, which is nothing more then his First Amendment right to state, NO LAW WAS BROKEN by the stores. DA Rice’s rhetoric, and that all it was, was just to create political sound-bites. (Oh, the DEMs must be dancing naked in the street over her actions.)

Now, we are almost 11-months out, and strangely, there are NO INDICTMENTS. In fact, the county’s case seems to be falling apart. Inside sources, who definitely wish to remain anonymous, have said that the county’s own experts have shredded the DA’s evidence and feel there is little or no case. In fact, again, the DA’s office has quietly let several owners, and their employees, OFF THE HOOK, on Adjournment in Contemplation of Dismissal (ACOD). (Gee, why hasn’t the press caught this?)

These ACODs where given to Mark Wroobel (Owner of Hunter Sports), Andrew Chernoff (Owner of Coliseum Gun Traders), Carmine Rotondo (An employee of Coliseum Gun Traders), and Michael Marinello (Owner of South Shore Sportsman). All felonies and misdemeanors where DROPPED, and the story tells us further that their only stipulation was not to build NY Compliant rifles, just to buy them from the manufacturers, in NY Compliant configuration. Their gun licenses where given back to them and they must be good citizens for six months to have their court records sealed. They are back selling the very guns that DA Rice BUSTED them for. (SURE SMELLS LIKE FALSE ARREST ISSUES TO ME, but what do I know, I ain’t a lawyer…)

So, why hasn’t the T&T group been offered any ACODs? Their actual charges, at arraignment,  are really no greater then those of Wroobel, Chernoff, Rotondo and Marinello! Here is where the outrage grows. And, keep in mind, as shown above, it already stinks in the DA’s office…

Mr. Tretola maybe a thorn in the county’s side. Mr. Tretola was possibly falsely arrested before because of a conceivably abusive NCPD officer. And, Mr. Tretola does have a Civil Rights case pending in Federal District Court, which has a fair degree of winning.

This editor sees an abusive Nassau County DA, whose has gone way past her position specification to get even with Mr. Tretola, by breaking his bank, and thereby forcing him out of business. If you can’t get him legally…Just use tax dollars and government regulations to force them to go bankrupt, or worse.

Of course, Nassau County should investigate this matter and possibly IMPEACH Ms. Rice. But that will never happen. (NCNF Note: Hopefully the stench from the failed Police Lab will woff its way up her way, as it should…But that issue is sleeping somewhere too!)

And, the NYS Supreme Court, Appellate Division, whose job it is to control lawyers, should investigate this matter and possibly DISBAR Ms. Rice for her abusive legal practices. But that will never happen either.

So, saps like Mr. Tretola, you and I, just have to accept that administrations ARE brutally abusive and when the ‘Keeper of the key’ is the ‘Gatekeeper’ as well, nothing gets fixed.

Remember…Almost eleven months…Accusations…Charges…NO INDICTMENTS…And some HAVE been released from the DA’s bondage.

Where is the outrage by our protectors?

DA Rice Busts Five Nassau Gun Shops For Selling Illegal Assault Weapons
Undercover investigation leads to charges against shop owners and employees

MINEOLA, N.Y. – Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced today the results of a sweeping undercover investigation into the sale of assault weapons at gun shops throughout Nassau County. During the 10-month probe, five Nassau County gun shops illegally sold assault weapons to undercover DA investigators and members of the New York State Police. As a result of the investigation, Rice’s office has arrested and charged four store owners and five of their employees.

Under New York State law, only police officers, peace officers, and duly authorized members of the military are legally permitted to possess assault weapons. One category of an assault weapon is defined as a semi-automatic rifle with the ability to accept a magazine carrying more than five rounds of ammunition and that must also have at least two additional characteristics. These additional characteristics can include a folding or telescoping stock, a protruding pistol grip, a bayonette mount, a flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor, or a grenade launcher. (NCNF Note: This paragraph is pure rhetoric designed to inflame the readers.)

Rice said that one defendant, Martin Tretola, 55, of Bellmore, and the owner of T&T Tactical in New Hyde Park and T&T Gunnery in Seaford, went so far as to demonstrate to undercover officers how to remove the temporary pin from the fixed stock making it collapsible. Both T&T Gunnery and Hunter Sports were on notice that civilians who purchased these weapons from their stores had been arrested and charged with illegal possession of an assault weapon in both Nassau and Suffolk counties, but they continued to sell these weapons. (NCNF Note: This paragraph is pure rhetoric, as talking about it is protected under the First Amendment. Additionally, Mr. Tretola, at the end of the video tells the person that converting the item back will get them in trouble. And if the buyers re-converted the items to an illegal state, the pieces still left the stores in their lawful configuration.)

“The nine men arrested today were openly breaking the law, making a practice of putting profits before the safety of our citizens, and flooding our streets with dangerous assault weapons,” Rice said. “Make no mistake, these are combat-specific weapons and not intended for hunting. They have no place on our streets or in the hands of civilians.” (NCNF Note: This paragraph is pure rhetoric, as it is every business’ duty to make a profit, and the guns sold where NOT “dangerous assault weapons” when they left the store.)

Tretola, the owner of two gun shops in Nassau County, is charged with Criminal Sale of a Firearm in the Second Degree, Unlawfully Disposing of an Assault Weapon, and a misdemeanor violation of the Firearms Licensing Provisions. T&T Tactical was charged with Criminal Sale of a Firearm in the First and Second Degrees. Tretola faces up to15 years in prison. His Seaford business, T&T Gunnery, has been charged with Criminal Sale of a Firearm in the First and Second Degrees. His New Hyde Park business, T&T Tactical, along with the following defendants and businesses are charged with Unlawfully Disposing of an Assault Weapon and a misdemeanor violation of the Firearms Licensing Provision. Each individual defendant faces up to seven years in prison and each business faces up to a $10,000 fine per felony or double the company’s gain from the criminal conduct.

Mark Wroobel, 40, of Smithtown. Wroobel and his business, Hunter Sports in Massapequa, are both charged with two counts of Manufacture, Transport, Disposition, Defacement of Weapons and Dangerous Instruments and Appliances and two misdemeanor violations of Firearms Licensing provisions. Wroobel is due back in court February 25 and is represented by Michael Villeck, Esq.
Andrew Chernoff, 50, of Malverne. Chernoff and his business, Coliseum Gun Traders, LTD in Uniondale, are both charged with Manufacture, Transport, Disposition, Defacement of Weapons and Dangerous Instruments and Appliances and a misdemeanor violation of Firearms Licensing provisions. Chernoff is due back in court March 2 and is represented by Stephen Wade LaMagna, Esq.
Carmine Rotondo, 68, of Garden City. Rotondo, an employee of Coliseum Gun Traders, LTD, is charged with Manufacture, Transport, Disposition, Defacement of Weapons and Dangerous Instruments and Appliances and a misdemeanor violation of Firearms Licensing provisions.
Michael Marinello, 41, of East Meadow. Marinello and his business, South Shore Sportsman in Merrick, are both charged with two counts of Manufacture, Transport, Disposition, Defacement of Weapons and Dangerous Instruments and Appliances and two misdemeanor violations of Firearms Licensing provisions. Marinello is due back in court February 22 and is represented by the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County.

Four of Martin Tretola’s employees were also charged as follows:

• Thomas Tretola, 24, of Bellmore. Thomas Tretola, an employee of T&T Gunnery in Seaford and Martin Tretola’s son, is charged with two counts of Manufacture, Transport, Disposition, Defacement of Weapons and Dangerous Instruments and Appliances and a misdemeanor violation of Firearms Licensing provisions. T&T Gunnery is also charged and is owned by Martin Tretola. Tretola is due back in court February 22 and is represented by Charles Horn, Esq.
• Stuart Sansevino, 59, of North Babylon. Sansevino, an employee of T&T Gunnery, is charged with three counts of Manufacture, Transport, Disposition, Defacement of Weapons and Dangerous Instruments and Appliances and 12 misdemeanor violations of Firearms Licensing provisions. Sansevino is due back in court February 22 and is represented by Dave Gallison, Esq.
• Hank Greenberg, 32, of Oceanside. Greenberg, an employee of T&T Gunnery, is charged with three counts of Manufacture, Transport, Disposition, Defacement of Weapons and Dangerous Instruments and Appliances and three misdemeanor violations of Firearms Licensing provisions.
• Morgan Owens, 22, of West Islip. Owens, an employee of T&T Tactical, is charged with one count of Manufacture, Transport, Disposition, Defacement of Weapons and Dangerous Instruments and Appliances and a misdemeanor violation of Firearms Licensing provisions. Owens is due back in court February 22 and is represented by Dave Gallison, Esq.

Assistant District Attorneys Karen Bennett (Deputy Bureau Chief) and Teresa Corrigan (Bureau Chief) of the Street Narcotics and Gang Bureau are prosecuting the cases for the District Attorney’s Office. New York State Police Captain James Dewar, Senior Investigator Joseph DeMaria and Investigator Edward Franke, conducted the investigation, together with the District Attorney’s Office.

The charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Anchorage Second Amendment Task Force

Anchorage, AK --(Ammoland.com)- On April 17, when Governor Sean Parnell adjourned the Alaska Legislature, there were four pro-gun bills left pending from the 2011 legislative session.

Due to Alaska’s two-year sessions, all pending 2011 bills will carry over and be considered in 2012.

• House Bill 80, sponsored by state Representative Mark Neuman (R-15), is a no-duty-to-retreat bill and would extend the right to use force, including deadly force, for self-defense anywhere a person has a legal right to be.  HB 80 passed in the state House by a 33 to 6 vote.  This bill is now pending in the Senate Judiciary Committee.
• House Bill 83, also sponsored by state Representative Neuman, would establish an apprentice hunting program.  This bill is pending in the House Resources Committee.
• Senate Bill 2, sponsored by state Senator Linda Menard (R-G), would create National Rifle Association special-request license plates.  SB 2 is currently pending in the Senate Finance Committee.
• Senate Bill 105, sponsored by state Senator Charlie Huggins (R-H), would designate the Pre-1964 Winchester Model 70 .30-06 as the official state firearm.  This bill is pending in the Senate State Affairs Committee.

When the next legislative session begins in January we will be keeping you informed on the status of HB 80 in the senate. We consider it imperative to pass this legislation.

At first this may appear to unrelated to firearms. Long range projection implies that may not be so. You may be aware that the current regime in Washington floated the idea of stopping shooting on “some” federal lands because the noise annoyed other users. (This may be a good reason to deregulate suppressors)

The idea of stopping recreational shooting met extreme resistance this time. You can bet the idea will be proposed again. Anti shooting forces are more successful at the local level. Consider the Palmer area and the efforts against shooting in that area.

When one considers Agenda 21 a trend by government to gain regulatory control of all lands becomes evident. Anchorage Title 21 is a heavy handed takeover of land use at the local level. It makes one wonder how long before shooting ranges will be regulated out of business. Consider attending this meeting to show support for repeal of the Title 21 rewrite.

Very Important Property Rights Meeting

All home owners, property owners, builders, contractors, realtors and all persons that value property rights must to be at this meeting. We are recommending that the Rewrite either be scrapped altogether or at the minimum all of Dan Coffey’s recommended amendments be incorporated in the Rewrite.

The Rewrite is a massive imposition of regulations that we don’t need. It will increase the cost of new construction. You will need permission to do anything to your own property. It will increase the culture of corruption. (Who has enough bribe money to get what he wants.) This is being imposed on you by a small group that wants Anchorage to be like Portland. Lynn Peterson, Portland’s planner, consults with them. Portland is rated as the worst planned city in the U.S.

Washington, DC --(Ammoland.com)- Birds of a feather sure do flock together.

So it’s no surprise that the country’s most anti-gun Republican mayor, Michael Bloomberg, invited the U.S. Senate’s most anti-gun Republican member up to his New York City residence for cocktails and a fund raiser next Monday.

Senator Dick Lugar of Indiana never met a gun control bill he didn’t like, and his F-rating from GOA is well-deserved.

Bloomberg, of course, founded the group Mayors Against Illegal Guns. Bloomberg, conveniently, thinks virtually all guns should be illegal. So MAIG is simply yet another gun prohibition organization.

While Bloomberg and Lugar may get along fine, his Republican primary opponent, Richard Moudock, is reaching out to gun owners throughout the state.

The Indiana Republican primary for senate is one of the most important races in the country for gun owners, and we don’t have to wait around for November to hand the anti-gunners a massive defeat.

The May 8th primary features two candidates who are diametrically opposed on the Second Amendment:

• Dick Lugar does not agree that the Second Amendment protects an individual right.
• Richard Mourdock believes the message of the Second Amendment is clear: “shall not be infringed” is a restriction on federal power to regulate gun ownership.
• Dick Lugar doesn’t trust the people with firearms, so he supports banning semi-automatic rifles that he erroneously calls “assault weapons.”
• Richard Mourdock understands that gun bans don’t stop criminals, but only hamper the ability of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves.
• Dick Lugar believes you should submit to a waiting period before you purchase a handgun, hence “enjoying” a little time to “cool off.”
• Richard Mourdock believes that it’s the Congress that should “cool off” and stop passing bill after bill that ignores the Constitution.
• Perhaps worst of all, Dick Luger supports UN efforts to pass the small arms treaty, a treaty that could impact every gun owner in America. Dick Lugar was the ONLY Republican Senator NOT to come out in opposition to the treaty.
• Richard Mourdock will never vote to hand over any authority to the UN.

This Senate election is particularly important in the event that Barack Obama manages to win another term. If Obama is reelected, Dick Lugar means one more vote for anti-gun Supreme Court justices, the small arms treaty and other anti-gun legislation.

The choice for Senator could not be more clear.

Make no mistake, however, Dick Lugar will be hard to beat. He’ll have almost unlimited money pouring in from the party establishment in Washington, and he’ll be calling in favors everywhere.

But Lugar can be defeated with the help of tens of thousands of gun owners and sportsmen from across the country.

Richard Mourdock, currently the State Treasurer of Indiana, is virtually tied with Lugar in the polls. This is our chance to defeat a politician who has been a thorn in the side of gun owners for more than three decades.

GRNC has just received legal analysis of Winston-Salem’s park ban, and the situation is even worse than originally thought. It is best we inform you of these developments as rapidly as possible – particularly because we need to immediately recruit Winston-Salem residents as plaintiffs!

WINSTON-SALEM PARK BAN VIOLATES STATE LAW!

Specific problems include deliberate over-reaching by the City Council under Sec. 38-10 (a) (1): “Athletic facility means a building, structure or place including a walking trail, greenway and body of water such as a lake for engaging in sporting events, recreational activities, fitness or physical training”.

They plan to designate not only greenways and walking trails (both impermissible) but even whole lakes as “athletic facilities”.

Under (a) (2): “Playground means a piece of land used for and usually equipped with facilities for recreation especially by children including the adjoining area and shelter used by children for respite, eating and playing sedentary games.”

Since when are “sedentary games” and areas for eating “athletic facilities”?

Under subsection (d), they cite a long list of state parks allegedly containing “recreational facilities.” Under the statute, they need to specifically list each of the “recreational facilities” where concealed carry is banned — again, a violation of state law!

City of Winston-Salem Representatives,

It is clear from your November 21st meeting that your City Attorney rewrote city ordinances not to comply with state law (HB 650, Castle Doctrine and Concealed Carry Permitted in Parks), but to take every opportunity to “not comply” with this important freedom-promoting new legislation.

The predictable result is an intentionally over-reaching ordinance that is in clear violation of state law.

You want to ban legal carry on greenways, walking trails, and lakes, none of which can reasonably be described as “athletic facilities”. If you attempt such a ban you will violate state law and subject your city to the consequences.

Even more outrageous is your intention to ban within areas intended for eating and playing sedentary games. Considering these areas as “athletic facilities” is absurd.

Your ordinance is illegal, irrational, unjustifiable and a clear example of disrespect for both state law and the Constitutional rights of free Americans.

It must be rescinded immediately.

The Winston-Salem town council expressed outrage during their November 21st meeting that our state Assembly has “usurped” their “right” to disarm law-abiding citizens within city parks.

THE TOWN’S DISCUSSION WAS LACK OF GOVERNMENT REASON IN ACTION:

HB 650 was called “Objectionable”, “Unacceptable”, “Unforgivable”.

The same broken record reason for banning carry in parks was offered by Police Chief Scott Cunningham: “When a weapon is present the situation could escalate – to a fatal incident instead of bumps and bruises”.

Chief Cunningham also stated that Winston-Salem concealed carry permittees are, “very much law-abiding.”

What the Chief didn’t say is that there is no evidence that a permittee has been violent anywhere in NC. City Councilor Vivian H. Burke encouraged Winston-Salem citizens to “Occupy Raleigh” to protest HB 650. Mayor Allen Joines characterized HB 650 as having, “taken away the ability of city government to regulate its own affairs.”

It is clear that the Winston-Salem Mayor and City Council need a strong dose of reality-inducing reason to understand that the Second Amendment trumps any of their ordinances, and that it is they who serve at the Assembly’s pleasure.

And we are just the people to administer this badly-needed medicine.

It is clear from your November 21st meeting that your City Attorney rewrote city ordinances not to comply with state law (HB 650, Castle Doctrine and Concealed Carry Permitted in Parks), but to take every opportunity to “not comply” with this important freedom-promoting new legislation.

The resulting ordinance is an unreasonable infringement of Second Amendment rights that conflicts with the very intent of the new state law to provide state-wide uniformity. It also sends a troubling message of willful lack of cooperation with state government, under which you serve.

HB 650 was intended to increase the ability of law-abiding permittees to defend themselves and their families when visiting North Carolina parks. The need for citizens to be able to effectively defend themselves in Winston-Salem parks was made clear by Chief Scott Cunningham’s admission that crime is a problem in these areas. The severity of these problems across our state was made clear earlier this month by the brutal murder of Leroy Staton in Greenville’s Jaycee park. Based upon these established facts, your criticism of the Assembly’s enactment of HB 650 is inappropriate.

Chief Cunningham’s claim that disagreements will escalate to homicide is unreasonable: across the state over 330,000 permittees have had 16 years of opportunity to become violent and have not. The Chief’s concern is similar to those expressed earlier against “shall issue” laws; there was to be “blood in the street” and “lead flying through the air”. These fears have not been realized and, like concern of disagreements escalating to shoot-outs, are unjustified. The Chief himself admits that, “Concealed carry permittees are very much law-abiding.” Why do you mistrust them?

Your ordinance is illegal, irrational, unjustifiable and a clear example of disrespect for both state law and the Constitutional rights of free Americans.

It must be rescinded immediately.

There has been no attempt made by Greenville city government to justify why the Constitutional rights of citizens should be limited in Greenville parks. Thus it is clear that the new ordinance is nothing more than an autocratic and tyrannical effort to deprive citizens of freedom.

As you know, the simplest and most cost-effective way to comply with state law is by reversing current bans.

Your ordinance is illegal, irrational, unjustifiable and a clear example of disrespect for both state law and the Constitutional rights of free Americans.

BELLEVUE, WA – -(Ammoland.com)- Today’s hearing on Operation Fast and Furious before the Senate Judiciary Committee once again provided an opportunity for two leading Senate gun prohibitionists to try spreading the blame for botched gun trafficking, and change the debate to arguments for more gun control, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said.

The committee questioned Attorney General Eric Holder for two hours on Fast and Furious, and other Justice Department issues. But it was about the seriously mishandled gun trafficking investigation where committee partisans tried their bait-and-switch routine, CCRKBA said.

“Senators Charles Schumer and Dianne Feinstein tried to link discredited gun walking tactics to the earlier Bush-era Operation Wide Receiver,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “Blaming Bush is ‘so yesterday’, while their gun control agenda is on tap for tomorrow.”

Texas Sen. John Cornyn revealed the stark differences between Wide Receiver, conducted with the full cooperation of the Mexican government, and the Obama administration’s Operation Fast and Furious, done specifically without the knowledge of Mexican authorities, or our own officials assigned to Mexico City.

“It’s outrageous, but predictable, that these two partisan gun control fanatics would try such a ruse to confuse the public, and the issue,” Gottlieb stated.

Holder’s definition of a new mandatory multiple long gun sales reporting regulation as a “reasonable requirement” is a tipoff, Gottlieb said. It’s the first step toward a nationwide regulation that could turn into a back-door registry of all semiautomatic modern sport-utility rifles under an anti-gun White House and Congress, he suggested.

Schumer concentrated on linking Fast and Furious to the Bush administration, while criticizing the Republican-led House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has been “selective” in its focus.

“Schumer and Feinstein want to waste time and deflect public attention by blaming Bush while quietly promoting their own anti-gun agenda,” Gottlieb said. “They may as well have used President Obama’s teleprompters from which to read their lines.”

In fact they have become so bold that Mayor Paul Bertoglio (Republican) and police chief Chris Walsh admitted that they are conspiring with other towns and lobby groups to challenge your constitutionally protected right to bear arms.

Incredibly the Casper council members are so paranoid they don’t even want you to have a pocket knife and intend to expand the city ordinance on sharp objects as well .

And you should have heard the City Attorney and police chief speak of other states prohibitions as justified–an irrational thinking process that suggests if New York does it so can Casper Wyoming.

Talk about working for outside interests.

Republican Mayor Paul Bertoglio and Republican council member Bill Brauer follow the lead of liberal Democrat Kim Holloway as they listen to police chief Chris Walsh push for tougher restrictions on gun rights.

You should note that during the Casper City business meeting not one of the council members spoke in support of the rights guaranteed by the constitution.

BELLEVUE, WA – -(Ammoland.com)- A spike in crime over the past few weeks while New York City policemen and women have been diverted to deal with the on-going Occupy Wall Street protest prove that Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s anti-gun policies are working against law-abiding citizens who cannot protect themselves from crimes of opportunity, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

The New York Post reported over the weekend that the number of people shot went up 154 percent for a one week period, which is more than double the number of people shot during the same week last year, and overall jumped 28 percent during the past month.

“While the city is sending its cops down to Wall Street to handle the protests, the neighborhoods are being left vulnerable, and that’s because New York City continues to restrict the rights of law-abiding citizens to arm themselves,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb.

“It is bad enough when citizens must jump through a lot of hoops and pay exorbitant fees to obtain a gun permit in the Big Apple during normal times, but when police manpower is heavily diverted, those citizens are victimized by the system as much as they are by the criminals.

“Crooks certainly realize when the cops aren’t around,” he continued. “The New York Post story essentially sent a signal that criminals have a much safer working environment with police spending their time downtown instead of out on their normal beats.”

The newspaper said there have been several more shootings this month than during the same month last year.

“This is nuts,” Gottlieb observed. “When honest citizens in the neighborhoods are essentially abandoned by police who are called to deal with an extraordinary situation in Manhattan, it begs the question, how long are they supposed to live with the city’s Draconian gun control laws? New York has a cumbersome system that Mayor Bloomberg is all-too-happy to perpetuate.

“It’s time for New York City to reform its gun policies,” Gottlieb said, “and in the meantime, return its cops to the neighborhoods where they can do the most to fight crime. But streamlining the gun permit process should be Priority One.”

National Shooting Sports Foundation

NEWTOWN, Conn --(Ammoland.com)- Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) is seeking to offer an amendment to the Commerce, Justice and Science appropriations bill now being debated on the Senate floor.

But anti-gun senators are blocking a vote on the amendment.

It is imperative that you contact your legislators tonight and urge them to vote YES on Hatch Amendment 770. Tomorrow morning is too late.

The Hatch amendment would permanently enshrine 10 different appropriations “riders” — essentially directions from Congress to the administration about how they must spend, or not spend, funds — into permanent law.

Traditionally, each “rider” had to be reauthorized on a year-by-year basis. Some of these riders go back 30 years.

Again, as you’re reading this, anti-gun senators are blocking the vote.

Call your senators immediately (202-224-3121) and urge them to become co-sponsors and support this amendment! Tomorrow morning is too late.

Virginia --(Ammoland.com)- Anti-Gun Senate Majority Leader, who was backed by the NRA, has nuked gun rights.

That’s right!

He has taken away the one tool that Senators Rand Paul and Jim DeMint have used countless times to save our bacon.

Reid nuked the filibuster rule.

You see, for years, Virginia Gun Owners Coalition has been opposed to what some call the “Nuclear Option” in the United State Senate.

You may remember a number of years back when the Republicans in the Senate, led by Bill Frist, threatened to use the “Nuclear Option” to confirm judges being held up by Democrats.

I was opposed to such a move then and am today, as well.

The “Nuclear Option” would allow bills to pass through the U.S. Senate with a simple majority, instead of having to get 60 votes to break a filibuster.

Such a radical step to do away with the filibuster should be opposed by EVERY gun rights activist and gun rights organization in this country.

Anti-gun Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) used the “nuclear option” late Thursday night, out of the eye of the public, thus, setting up rules in favor of the gun-grabbers in the Senate.

You may remember Senator Reid was reelected to the U.S. Senate in 2010.

Some “insiders” within the gun rights community in Washington got behind Senator Reid (he even received money from some of them) after they determined that by supporting Harry Reid they could avoid potentially “worse” Senate Majority Leaders.

Well, the “nuclear option” is the worst of the worst of policies. Our gun rights are now at greater risk than they were just days ago. Gun rights activists like you and me don’t have to settle for the “lesser of two evils.”

Anti-gun is anti-gun.
No amount of compromise or give-and-take in the backrooms of the U.S. Capitol will prevent VGOC and our sister gun organizations like the National Association for Gun Rights from opposing gun-grabbers wherever they exist.

You and I both know elections have consequences, but it appears both Majority Leader Harry Reid and the Obamacrats in the Senate don’t get that basic point.

Reid and the Obamacrats have now shredded the current Senate rules and silenced YOU and conservative Senators like Rand Paul and Jim DeMint.

They say that Senators like Jim DeMint and Rand Paul are “obstructing” the work of the “American people.”

Reid and his anti-gun cohorts in the Senate have removed the “filibuster rule” which requires 60 votes to override.

Conservative champions like Rand Paul have used the “filibuster rule” to great effect for gun owners, using it to stop all manner of outrageous legislation.

In reality, Paul and DeMint ARE DOING the work of the people, by fighting to protect our rights and threatening filibusters of dangerous legislation. Senator Reid has now stripped them of that opportunity.

The NRA in Washington, D.C. calculated wrong.

Senator Reid is as left-wing and anti-gun as almost any Senator in Washington.

He proved that with his decision to invoke the nuclear option, threatening our gun rights.

The truth is, the Founding Fathers wanted the Senate to be a deliberative body, and to ensure that the voice and rights of the minority were always heard.

You have my assurance that VGOC and all the other no-compromise state-level gun lobbies that beat the NRA sell out over the Clinton Gun Ban in 2004 will never compromise your gun rights by asking you to choose the “lesser of two evils.”

The fight is just beginning.

Wisconsin Carry

Wisconsin --(Ammoland.com)- With the plethora of municipalities taking up gun-bans/posting of government buildings, in preparation for the new concealed carry law to take effect Nov. 1 we have seen scores of municipalities take up this issue.

Some have made wise choices and ALLOWED guns in local government buildings (city hall, library, etc)

Unfortunately, many have chosen to follow ignorance and emotion and decided to post city buildings:

I have been asked by a few members for talking points to use when they attend their local meetings to push back/advocate for the common sense of allowing carry by the law-abiding.

Here are some suggested talking points that you might get an idea or two from that perhaps you haven’t already. As you attend your local city council meetings when these issues are discussed, feel free to use some, or all of these in addition to your own ideas.

First: As a matter of principle, its immoral for the city government to deny a citizen their constitutionally guaranteed HUMAN right to self-defense in buildings that the very citizen pays for through their taxes. Those are not private buildings, they are government buildings, but a government “of the people”. Ultimately they ARE the people’s buildings. If we embrace a government “of the people” how can we deny citizens a constitutional right to carry in their own buildings? Its immoral. They mayor doesn’t own the building. He didn’t pay for it. The city council doesn’t own the buildings. They didn’t pay for it. The taxpayers paid for it.

Second: I would ask the council members if they honestly believe that a sign will stop a deranged lunatic from coming into the city hall (or the city library, etc) with a gun. In an era of growing frustration with government, the potential for a lunatic on a shooting rampage does exist (we saw it in Florida at a school board meeting, we saw it in Missouri) A deranged shooter will ignore the sign and every law-abiding person inside will have left their means to defend themselves in their car.

I might pose the question to the council, if some lunatic is unable to pay their property tax bill and decides to go on a suicidal shooting rampage at the city council meeting, do you want to be sitting where you are with no means to defend yourself or would you wish that someone in that room stop the threat and save lives.

I would tell them “god forbid what happened at that board meeting in Florida or in Missouri happens here”, but if someone lunatic comes in and points a gun at you and starts shooting. As everyone dives under the desk, in that moment, will you regret that you prohibited EVERY “good guy” in the room from having a gun who could save your life. Will you (city council members) regret that your signs not only created an environment where should a lunatic come in and start shooting, no one will be able to stop it, but your signs will ALSO give a lunatic a sense of confidence that the city council meeting is a GOOD place to go on a shooting rampage because the prohibition on guns means everyone in there is unarmed.

Its noteworthy that around the country, deranged lunatic’s DO NOT go into police stations [or gun shows] and start shooting. They go in schools and universities and school board meetings, and city council meetings where guns are PROHIBITED. I don’t think this is coincidence. I think lunatics want easy prey. If they just wanted to die, they could kill themselves. They want to inflict mass casualties before they do. That’s why they usually don’t go on shooting rampages in police stations where there are guns that could stop them.

They find places where guns are prohibited and they go on a rampage there.

Tell them to be COMPASSIONATE towards the men and women of (your city here) who want to protect themselves from the crime that will inevitably someday seep outward from (insert nearest major city here) and not to impose these bans on their ability to be carrying when they go into a city building.

Tell them that fearing a law-abiding citizen who carries for self defense and would never draw a gun unless a life was in danger MORE than they would fear a lunatic criminal who would be hell-bent on mass casualties lacks any logic what-so-ever.

Lastly, you could tell them that places with “no guns” signs posted would make the parking lot a target for thieves because they know there is a high likelihood that guns would have been left in the vehicle because they are prohibited in the building. A city council meeting at night that lasts several hours would give a criminal ample opportunity to break into cars in the parking lot to steal guns left there.

One quick announcement:
The “Uninfringed Liberty Group” is hosting its 3rd annual right-to-carry tea-party. It will be held on October 22, 2011 from 1 – 4 pm at the band shell at Lakefront Park in Hudson, WI. It doesn’t appear their website www.uninfringedliberty.com is updated with any other information at this time, but check in the near future for more details. Open-carry encouraged but not required at the event.

Senator Frank R. Lautenberg (D) NJ facebook page the target of frustrated constituents.

Manasquan, NJ --(Ammoland.com)- It seems that the speed and reach of social media is biting the 87 year old anti gun Senator on, shall we say .. the rear.

Lautenberg’s Facebook page is filled with 100′s of Wall post from Facebook members complaining about everything from the Senators lack of reply to constituents request for meetings and information, to his support for New York chronie Mayor Bloomberg and his gunban front group Mayors Against Illegal Guns, to folks questioning how he stays true to his Oath of Office and the Constitution in the face of his repeated attacks on the Second Amendment.

Lautenberg, an unabashed supporter of more gun control, seems to have sprung a leak on his stodgy image as a man of the people and we would venture to guess that the intern that is assigned to edit the Senator’s Facebook Wall is likely to get a tongue lashing from the Aging Senator’s staff as they go back and delete the many frank posts calling the Senator to the carpet.

Lautenberg’s home state of New Jersey is behind the front lines of the battle against State Sponsored attacks on Gun Rights and NJ is about to face many challenges as it tries to wriggle its way through multiple Lawsuits over Gun Owner Rights and Concealed Carry.

Other headaches on the horizon for NJ could include the HR822 – National CHL Reciprocity, a bill that would end up allowing out of state concealed carry license holders to roam the streets of NJ while state residents are denied any form of Concealed Carry Permits.

Illinois State Rifle Association

Illinois --(Ammoland.com)- Anti-Concealed Carry State Representative Jim Durkin will be appearing at a town hall meeting on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 7:00 PM.

Durkin (R-82) was one of 52 state representatives who voted against HB148 – the concealed carry bill.

Durkin voted against HB148 because he felt it is more important to appease machine politicians and big money backers of gun control than it is to protect you against violent criminals. Jim Durkin has accepted awards from anti-gun organizations such as ICHV.

California Outdoor Heritage Alliance

SACRAMENTO, CA --(Ammoland.com)- Help COHA defeat the following bills that threaten your firearms freedoms:

1) AB 809 (Feuer), legislation which would require a permanent registry of long guns – including all shotguns and rifles. Under AB 809, those who purchase, or even transfer a shotgun or rifle to a family member, will be required to permanently register that firearm by submitting their name, address, place of birth, phone number, occupation and sex to the CA Department of Justice.

“AB 809 will not help law enforcement agencies solve crime, but rather unnecessarily invade the privacy of law-abiding hunting and other sport-shooting enthusiasts,” stated Jason Rhine, Director of Advocacy for COHA.

2) SB 427 (De Leon) would redefine “handgun ammunition” to include many commonly used rifle rounds and allow for full implementation of AB 962 – an ammunition registration law passed in 2009, portions of which were recently ruled unconstitutional by the courts.

Under the provisions of AB 962, mail order and internet sales of handgun and some rifle ammunition would essentially be banned given that all transactions would have to be completed “face-to-face”. Additionally, sportsmen and women would be forced to submit personal information when buying commonly-used sporting ammunition, even though they had already undergone an extensive background check with the purchase or transfer of a firearm.

COHA has been actively working with our founding member, California Waterfowl, as well as the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance, National Rifle Association and California Rifle and Pistol Association, to defeat these anti-gun bills.

“Sportsmen and gun owners need to make their voices heard before its too late by contacting the Governor and asking him to protect their rights,” said Rob Sexton U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance Vice President of Government Affairs.

I’m sure you’ve heard that one before.

I’ve been dealing with politicians at all levels of government for more than two decades, and let me tell you, the gun-grabbers always tend to “flock together.”

Just yesterday I heard that former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty is now backing the former gun-grabbing Governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney.

By “former,” I mean Governor, not a “former” gun-grabber.

I’ll list Governor Romney’s record down below.

But really, this isn’t a surprise to me.

Before he dropped out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination, Tim Pawlenty stonewalled gun owners in Iowa, and nationally, by refusing to return his National Association for Gun Rights’ Presidential Survey.

NAGR Director of Operations Luke O'Dell confronted Tim Pawlenty in Des Moines, IA. Governor Pawlenty REFUSED to say where he stood on important Second Amendment issues.

You may remember NAGR’s Director of Operations, Luke O’Dell, approaching Governor Pawlenty in Iowa demanding to know why he was stonewalling gun owners on issues like:

• The UN “Small Arms Treaty”;
• The unconstitutional Brady gun owner registration scheme;
• Banning of certain types of firearms;
• Greatly curtailing or even eliminating the ATF.

Is that too much to ask for? I don’t think so.

Gun owners deserve to know.

And I won’t be intimidated by “Establishment” Republican-types scoffing at the Second Amendment, telling grassroots gun rights activists like you and me to sit on the sidelines this election.

Mitt Romney’s record on the Second Amendment is more than concerning to me. It’s dangerous.

Banning firearms. Supporting the unconstitutional Brady gun owner registration scheme. Refusing to return NAGR’s Presidential Survey.

Gun rights activists like you and me don’t have to put up with Republican nominees who can’t even say where they stand on important Second Amendment issues.

SB 819 would allow the state Department of Justice (DOJ) to raid the DROS and take “excess” money to pay for local enforcement of laws related to firearms possession.

Ca Bill To Raid Background Check Fund

The primary purpose of the DROS fee paid by every firearms purchaser is to fund the purchaser background checks performed by the Department of Justice. DROS fund fees are a fee for service and should be used for their intended purpose: background checks. The concern is that the DROS fund will be depleted and soon require an increased DROS fee for all firearms purchasers.

CRPA and NRA are working hard to defeat SB 819 from every angle. In addition to lobbying efforts, a law suit has also been filed by CRPA and NRA to block the illegal use of DROS fees as proposed by SB 819.

Williams was one of 52 state representatives who voted against HB148 – the concealed carry bill.

Williams, formerly a staff member in Lisa Madigan’s Attorney General office, ran for the Illinois House on a platform including gun control and does not believe that you are responsible for your own self-defense, that is best left up to big government and dicey police response times.

John Cullerton rules the Illinois Senate with an iron hand, refusing to allow pro-gun bills originating in the Illinois Senate even to have committee hearings in the 97th General Assembly, including bills for concealed carry.

Manassas, VA --(Ammoland.com)- It can be argued that the only personal property specifically protected by the US Constitution is firearms.

While the Fourth Amendment promises “the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects” and requires a sworn warrant “describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized,” it does specifically allow for such seizure if the “i’s” are properly dotted and the “t’s” correctly crossed.

Similarly the Fifth Amendment guarantees against a person being “deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation,” but again, it recognizes a process for such deprivation and taking.

The Second Amendment contains no such provisions for circumvention.

While I would not argue that the Second Amendment precludes society from ever restricting arms in any circumstance – such as to inmates in prison or briefly while police sort out the good guys from the bad guys at an incident – I do believe that it places firearms in a very special and protected place under law; a place where any deprivation of the right should receive special scrutiny and careful consideration. But our judicial system seems to take the exact opposite view. In any legal issue firearms are typically the first thing taken away and the last thing returned – if they are ever returned at all.

US Judges Display Little Respect For Second Amendment Rights

A couple of recent cases renewed my concern about the attitude that the courts routinely exhibit toward guns.

In Nevada last October Al DiCicco made the mistake of taking political speech a bit too far when he expressed his dislike for a local Family Court judge by backing his truck into one of the judge’s reelection campaign signs. A local police officer happened to see the vandalism and Al found himself under arrest for a gross misdemeanor. During the arrest a loaded lever-action rifle was discovered in DiCicco’s truck. That’s another misdemeanor. The police seized the rifle and a .32 caliber pistol which was legally carried.

After resolution of the citations the judge declared that she was not going to return DiCicco’s guns – even though Nevada law does not provide for forfeiture of the rifle under the circumstances and the pistol was not connected to any crime. Now DiCicco, who is disabled and lives on a small, fixed income, is left with the option of either allowing his guns to be illegally forfeited or trying to scrape together the funds to stage a challenge to the unlawful taking.

In a different incident that illustrates the same issue, Joe Winslow, a member of the Quartzsite, Arizona Town Council, has sworn out a protective order complaint against a local political activist. He claimed that he thought the activist was headed toward violence and requested that the judge ban the man from City Hall and prohibit him from possessing firearms or ammunition. The judge granted his request. (She subsequently vacated that decision after exposure in the Knox Report on WND.com and ensuing public outrage.)

Consider the ramifications of this court order. The court forbid a person from the immediate vicinity of a public servant and suspended the constituent’s constitutional rights – anywhere – indefinitely. He could go bird hunting in Argentina and be cited for violating the terms of the protective order. All based on an unsubstantiated suspicion.

These are but two among thousands of examples of courts displaying utter disdain for the Second Amendment and the individual right to arms. I personally have had to do battle with a judge when the .22 rifle my father gave me for my 10th birthday (a most treasured possession) was stolen and criminally misused. When the criminal proceedings ended and I expected my gun to be returned, the judge declared that the gun was to be forfeited as if it belonged to the criminal. Were it not for the assistance of a City Prosecutor I don’t think I would have been able to recover that precious family heirloom. And this happened at a time when I was a very prominent member of the business community and had just come within a few hundred votes of winning a seat in the state legislature. I seriously doubt that someone less well-connected could have gotten the gun back.

The primary mission of government is to ensure the blessings of liberty to the citizens. The primary mission of the courts is to uphold the rule of law toward that end. For the courts to dismiss core tenets of the law and disregard a fundamental, enumerated right as if it were a government-granted privilege is unacceptable and needs to be addressed. We elect these judges or elect the people who appoint them. It’s up to us to hold them accountable for their lack of respect for the Constitution.

I’ve spent my fair share of time on Capitol Hill, and let me tell you, the gun control lobbyists have their tentacles wrapped around scores of Congressional offices right now.

They’ve been particularly active the last few months after the lone gunman shootings in Arizona and Europe.

And now, anti-gun Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy is saying that “there should be a lot of shame” on the part of gun owners.

Trust me, I’m not ashamed to exercise my Second Amendment rights, and no amount of browbeating from a gun-grabbing Congresswoman is going to change my mind.

If I have anything to say about it, my Second Amendment rights will not be taken away because of the actions of two crazed individuals. And you shouldn’t let the gun grabbers take your gun rights away either.

That’s why I’ve put together petitions to your Congressman and Senators urging them to vote “NO” on the Gun-Grabbers’ Magazine Ban Bill (H.R. 308) — or any other similar bill.  But first, let me tell you what I know personally about the gun control lobby.

I’ve been fighting against these guys for more than 20 years. If you were to walk right past one of the gun control lobbyists on Capitol Hill, you might think nothing of it.

But let me be clear: they have dangerous, liberty-crushing intentions. I know them like the back of my hand. And whenever a tragedy occurs anywhere in the world, they renew their push for gun control.

They have no better friend on Capitol Hill than anti-gun Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy. As I write this, one of the biggest domestic threats to your gun rights on Capitol Hill is McCarthy’s Magazine Ban Bill.

If H.R. 308 is passed, the sale or transfer of firearm magazines with a capacity of more than ten rounds would be ILLEGAL. But that’s not all. My staff has dug into McCarthy’s Magazine Ban Bill, and there is more — a lot more.

Do you already own a handgun, rifle or shotgun with a magazine that holds more than ten rounds?

For now, the law says that you are “legal.” If the gun control lobby gets their way, you can’t ever sell it, give it away or pass it down to your kids. (New Jersey has passed this exact law for magazines greater than 15 rounds)

In fact, Congresswoman McCarthy’s bill would turn widows into instant FELONS if their late husbands possessed a 12-round magazine!

You know, people talk on Capitol Hill. In fact, they talk a lot. I’m not just referring to the elected Representatives and Senators; I’m talking about the people who talk “behind the scenes.”

What I’m hearing on Capitol Hill should strike fear into us all: President Obama recently met with House Republicans to discuss McCarthy’s Magazine Ban Bill.

Yes, that’s right, House Republicans, many with so-called “pro-gun” credentials, have discussed a deal to get H.R. 308 passed.

It’s all just a game being played by the White House. They know they will take whatever gun control they can get out of the Republican-controlled House . . .

. . . then unleash their BIG GUNS in the Senate, where a full roster of eager, left-wing gun control lieutenants will launch attack after attack on our gun rights by attaching anti-freedom amendments to the bill.

That’s why I need you to contact your representatives IMMEDIATELY.

If you and I don’t stop President Obama and the gun grabbers dead in their tracks – right now – we risk losing even more of our rights.

In fact, once the bill reaches the Senate floor, my sources on Capitol Hill are telling me dozens of amendments are already in the works, including:

• *** Mandatory waiting periods, and expensive, drawn-out “psychological screenings” designed to force ALL law-abiding citizens to get government approval before purchasing a firearm;
• *** A TOTAL ban on all private sales under the guise of “closing the gun-show loophole”;
• *** A new so-called “Assault Weapons” Ban, targeting ALL semi-automatic rifles and shotguns — which, unlike the Clinton ban, will NEVER expire;
• *** A National Concealed Carry “Standard” — designed to make it even more difficult for law-abiding citizens to carry a gun to protect themselves and their families from murderers like Jared Loughner.

Don’t get tricked by this one — this “standard” is nothing more than the feds forcing states to slow down the approval of concealed carry permits, and make the remaining permits null-and-void in most areas!

And with the full backing of the White House and the anti-gun media, you and I can’t take anything for granted. After all, just their efforts alone will be difficult enough to overcome.

But what if – God forbid – there’s another criminal rampage? You and I both know President Obama and his anti-gun pals will rush to exploit it. That’s why you and I must strangle this monster in its crib NOW before it’s too late.

The staff here at NAGR is taking nothing for granted — we know how these left-wing anti-gunners work. They are going to fire all the ammunition that they have to get any gun control that they can.

Complicating NAGR’s efforts to stop gun control in Washington are prominent Republicans (actually, they are RINO’s) like U.S. Senator Richard Lugar, former Vice President Dick Cheney and Homeland Security Chairman Peter King have already voiced support for additional gun controls.

These so-called “pro-Second Amendment” Republicans sicken me. One day they say they support “gun rights,” then the next day there they are calling for “reasonable restrictions” on our freedoms, back-slapping and hand-shaking with their left-wing accomplices.

Well, I don’t know about you, but I believe “shall not be infringed” MEANS WHAT IT SAYS.

And I believe the LAST thing pro-gun folks should be doing is cozying up to the anti-gun crowd and cutting deals — especially with President Obama in the White House. Instead, you and I must do everything in our power to stop the anti-freedom plans of the gun grabbers.

There is absolutely no way we can succeed without your help.

I am launching the National Association for Gun Rights’ three-part plan to fight back, including:

• Contacting ten million Americans through U.S. mail, email and our state-of-the-art telemarketing campaign;
• Launching an all-out public relations campaign to include op-eds, blogs, talk radio briefings, press conferences and media interviews where I’ll gladly lock horns with anti-gun extremists in defense of our Second Amendment rights;
• An all-out media blitz to include hard-hitting internet and radio ads calling on KEY Congressmen and Senators to vote NO on H.R. 308 or any similar bill. I’ve already begun to hear from tens of thousands of gun rights activists, and my staff and I are generating opposition through the email, mail and phones.

But this must be a sustained campaign against anti-gun legislators in Washington. You and I must keep up the pressure.

For more than two years now, you and I have defied the naysayers and pushed back against President Obama and his left-wing gun grabbing allies in the Congress.

But this Magazine Ban scheme could prove to be the toughest battle you and I have ever been involved in.

P.S. The gun-grabbers’ goal is to sneak the Magazine Ban Bill (H.R. 308) through the U.S. House with as little fanfare as possible and then load it down with anti-gun amendments once it reaches the Senate.

And now news reports show many supposedly pro-gun Republicans and even “gun rights groups” are considering backing the scheme!

Virginia Citizens Defense League

Covington VA --(Ammoland.com)- I have just fired off the letter below to the Martinsville City Council on an illegal gun ban that covers Martinsville’s entire municipal building.

They are using the guise that just because a few rooms in the building are courtrooms, that makes the whole building a courthouse.

Not so. VCDL wants the policy changed to only ban guns in rooms used by the Court.

If you live in the Martinsville area, VCDL is going to be on the Martinsville City Council’s agenda for Tuesday, August 23rd, at 7:30 PM to address this issue. The more gun owners we have at that meeting to show support for VCDL’s position, the better. I will send a reminder as the date draws near.

Here is the email to City Council:

Dear Martinsville City Council, City Council Clerk, and City Attorney,

As the President of the Virginia Citizens Defense League, a gun-rights organization with 5,000 members and another 15,000 email alert subscribers, an issue has been brought to my attention dealing with a gun ban that covers Martinsville’s entire municipal building.

The sign on the door of the Municipal Building says in part, “Attention Court Participants. The following are prohibited in the COURTROOM of the Juvenile Domestic Relations of the City of Martinsville…It is unlawful to carry any weapon of any kind into the COURTROOM including a pocket knife…” (emphasis on “courtroom” is mine).

We have no issues with the sign or its wording. As written it is correct. HOWEVER, how the City is implementing that gun ban (applying it to the entire Municipal Building) is not legal for 2 reasons:

1. Just because a building has a few courtrooms in it does not make the entire building a courthouse. The Courts have already ruled so: “Only that part of the courthouse building necessary for the use and occupancy of the circuit court constituted the courthouse . . . .” Bd. of Supervisors v. Com. of Accounts, 215 Va. 722, 724, 214 S.E.2d 137, ___ (1975)

2. Except for the rooms used by the Court, the City is preempted from banning firearms in the rest of the building by Virginia Code 15.2-915 in part:

Ҥ 15.2-915. Control of firearms; applicability to authorities and local governmental agencies.

A. No locality shall adopt or enforce any ordinance, resolution or motion, as permitted by § 15.2-1425, and no agent of such locality shall take any administrative action, governing the purchase, possession, transfer, ownership, carrying, storage or transporting of firearms, ammunition, or components or combination thereof other than those expressly authorized by statute. For purposes of this section, a statute that does not refer to firearms, ammunition, or components or combination thereof, shall not be construed to provide express authorization.

…

C. In addition to any other relief provided, the court may award reasonable attorney fees, expenses, and court costs to any person, group, or entity that prevails in an action challenging (i) an ordinance, resolution, or motion as being in conflict with this section or (ii) an administrative action taken in bad faith as being in conflict with this section.”

Please conform the Municipal Building ban on the otherwise lawful carry of firearms to comply with state law as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Jews For The Preservation Of Firearms Ownership

When I first read about Otis Rolley of Baltimore, Maryland, he seemed to be a sterling example of the American dream of personal discipline and success. (http://www.otisrolley.com/about-otis)

His campaign bio is impressive, and it would seem he represents an exemplary case of the laudable actualization of the American ideal of self-determination. A man who grew up in a working class neighborhood of crime-ridden Jersey City, Mr. Rolley overcame, graduated college, and built a career of public service and civic engagement.

I salute you for your accomplishments, Mr. Rolley.

You now seek election to mayor of Baltimore, a city where you say that “Gun crime is a plague … with literally hundreds of people being shot, and many killed, every year.” Indeed, the FBI crime statistics for 2009 rank Baltimore 5th in violent crime in the country (based on crimes per 1000 residents).

The problem of violent crime in Baltimore will obviously need to be addressed by any serious candidate for mayor.

However, in response to this somber reality, you have now come out with one of the most idiotic “gun control” schemes just about anyone, anywhere, has ever floated: a bullet tax of $1.00 per bullet, a measure you claim will decrease crime in that it will “substantially increase the cost of its’ [sic] commission.” You claim that a bullet tax will work but that “Increasing the cost of guns won’t work because many criminals don’t purchase new guns and they can be borrowed or even rented in some areas.” (http://files.www.otisrolley.com/platform/Safer_Neighborhoods.pdf)

I’m curious, Mr. Rolley, at whom your proposal is aimed. Do you really expect to reduce crime with a bullet tax? Do you think that a murderer purchases his ammunition legally – and thus will incur this tax? Do you think that paying an extra $20 or $50 for a box of ammo will stop such a murderer? Make him reconsider? Are you foolish enough not to recognize that criminals get their ammunition the same way they get their guns? They steal them or buy (and sell) them in an uncontrollable network of other illegal sales.

Or perhaps, Mr. Rolley, your tax is aimed at further disarming and penalizing Baltimore’s law-abiding citizens. As you know, over 60% of Baltimore’s residents are Black. As in many other cities – including your own hometown Jersey City –these residents are disproportionately poor and live disproportionately in crime-ridden areas. While there are bound to be some criminals among them, the vast majority are no doubt law-abiding working poor who are struggling to make a living and to protect their families from the violence that surrounds them.

An honest, law-abiding, patriotic American parent who wants to prevent the violence of the street from entering his or her home has a variety of choices for personal defense. One of the least expensive and most effective options is the purchase of a firearm.

What’s particularly ironic about your proposal is that it will hit hardest at Baltimore’s working poor – those most in need of the tools of self-defense, and those least able to pay your bullet tax.

By the way, Mr. Rolley, ideas like yours have been tried before. In the post-Civil War South, one way of preventing freed slaves from owning firearms was to make them too expensive. This was done by imposing taxes or permit fees and by outlawing so-called “Saturday night specials” – the only inexpensive handguns that the impoverished freed slaves could afford to purchase and use in self-defense. In fact, “gun control” in America has its roots in the racist climate of the post-Civil War South. In many states, it was simply illegal for freed black slaves to own firearms. I assume you would not return your people to those Jim Crow days, to that denigrating level of second-class citizenship. Can’t you see that your bullet tax is a step in exactly this direction?

Mr. Rolley, despite your notable educational achievements and public service to date, you sadly seem to have been duped by the backers of the hidden racist agenda of “gun control.”

Would you like to learn more about the racism that lurks behind this hidden agenda? The civil rights organization under which I serve as Rabbinic Director, Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO), has produced “No Guns for Negroes,” a film which exposes the racist roots of “gun control” and explains the upside-down thinking of liberal Black politicians and activists who would disarm their own people. As JPFO’s Rabbinic Director, I would also like to offer you some spiritual insight. Your campaign bio declares you and your family Christians who attend Huber Memorial Church in Baltimore. You and I therefore share a deep respect for the Ten Commandments.

One of the key reasons so many Jews and Christians have been so misguided and/or confused on the fundamental, G-d given and unalienable right to self defense is because of a crucial mistranslation of the Sixth Commandment.

The proper translation of the Sixth Commandment is “Thou shalt not murder.” There is a world of moral and ethical difference between killing and murder. Should you want to delve into this issue further, JPFO has also produced “No Guns for Jews”, also available on our web site.

What would I suggest as solutions to Baltimore’s crime problem? First, severe punishment for those convicted of violent crime. Eliminate the murderers, rapists, and muggers from your city’s society. Slap-on-the-wrist law enforcement and revolving-door prison sentences have been a failure for decades.

Next, I would advocate placing many more guns in the hands of honest and law abiding Baltimore citizens. While your advocacy of “gun control” would return Baltimore’s Black citizens to the days of Jim Crow laws, my proposal would instead empower these good and decent citizens of Baltimore to protect themselves.

According to the National Institute of Justice, 58% of convicted felons stated that they feared an armed (intended) victim more than they feared the police. Want to reduce crime in Baltimore? Encourage your law-abiding citizens to arm themselves – and watch the criminals flee, in search of easier prey.

To that end, I would also advocate unlicensed Constitutional Carry in Baltimore. I would encourage the good, law-abiding citizens of your city who choose to do so to carry firearms, whether openly or discreetly. This is already permitted by law in four States in America – Wyoming, Alaska, Vermont, and Arizona. All of them have significantly lower crime rates than Baltimore, and in not one of them has a “Wild West” environment of vigilantism emerged – despite the hysterical cries from the Violence Policy Center and other deceitful advocates of citizen disarmament.

Mr. Rolley, I would also encourage your Baltimore residents to know how to use their defensive arms safely. That means practice, and practice means they need bullets – and imposing a $1 tax on each round will discourage them from this self-empowerment.

I would of course encourage firearms safety training, not hysterical, politically-correct gun phobia, in all of Baltimore’s public schools. Teach kids the sport of marksmanship and they will both gain a deep respect for the seriousness of firearms and understand the honorable and pragmatic reasons for an armed citizenry. They will recognize the world of difference between a murderer and a righteous defender.

I would stand up for the Bill of Rights and not desecrate the “Guardian” of the Bill of Rights, the Second Amendment.

In short, Mr. Rolley, don’t be suckered by the liberals who have brainwashed you about “gun control.”

Learn the history of “gun control” and how it has been used as a tool of oppression against your people. Teach your people to empower themselves against the criminals who oppress them.

Then you will be not only Baltimore’s mayor but a true leader and role model for all African-Americans.

BELLEVUE, WA – -(Ammoland.com)- A proposal by Baltimore, Maryland mayoral candidate Otis Rolley to levy a tax of $1 per cartridge in an effort to cut down crime and random gunfire in the city is typical of an anti-gun liberal who decries urban violence but offers a way for government to profit from it while not solving the problem, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

Rolley, a Democrat, is quoted by WBAL news acknowledging that raising the cost of firearms won’t work “because many criminals don’t purchase new guns, and they can be borrowed or even rented in some areas.”

“Sounds like Rolley’s trolley has left the tracks,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “If this guy actually believes that criminals rent firearms, he must live on Fantasy Island. Criminals steal firearms, even from the police, and when they do, they also steal the ammunition. Clearly, this one dollar-per-bullet tax idea comes from someone who doesn’t have a clue about criminals or the way they operate, but he does know about raising taxes.”

Rolley told a reporter that the tax would curb random shootings, especially around the holidays, by making it too expensive for people to indiscriminately discharge firearms.

“Tell that to someone who spends $300 on Fourth of July fireworks,” Gottlieb observed. “Rolley is really looking for a new revenue vehicle to fatten the city coffers, and sticking law-abiding citizens with the bill.

“Imagine what the First Amendment reaction from the press might be,” he said, “if Rolley had proposed a one-dollar tax per word in every newspaper in the city. There would be howls from every editorial board in the state, calling it a nutty idea that would not pass constitutional muster. The same goes for this proposed Second Amendment tax on recreational shooters, hunters and citizens concerned about personal protection.

“Rolley really needs a reality check,” Gottlieb concluded. “He ought to bite the bullet on this goofy proposal that shows just how far anti-gun extremists will go.”

FAIRFAX, Va. --(Ammoland.com)- Today, during consideration of the FY 2012 Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations bill, pro-gun U.S. Rep. Denny Rehberg (R-Mont.) offered an amendment to prohibit the use of funds for a new and unauthorized multiple sales reporting plan proposed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The Amendment was passed by a vote of 25-16.

The Rehberg Amendment, which was strongly supported by NRA, will defund the Justice Department’s controversial and illegal move requiring federally licensed firearms retailers in states bordering Mexico to report multiple sales of semi-automatic rifles.

As we reported yesterday, this procedure was proposed last fall as an “emergency” measure by BATFE. Specifically, it calls for all of the firearm retailers in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas to report multiple sales, or other dispositions, of two or more .22 caliber or larger semi-automatic rifles capable of accepting a detachable magazine purchased by a single individual in a five consecutive business day period.

It is important to note that under existing law, BATFE already has full access to every dealer’s firearm transaction records, either during a bona fide criminal investigation or simply to enforce compliance with record keeping requirements. This new reporting procedure would create a registry of owners of many of today’s most popular rifles–firearms owned by millions of Americans for self-defense, hunting and other lawful purposes. Most importantly, however, the BATFE has no legal authority to demand these reports.

In addition, the agency has recently come under intense scrutiny due to its ill-conceived “Fast and Furious” operation. “Fast and Furious” encouraged Arizona gun stores to sell thousands of guns to suspicious buyers, despite objections from dealers and even BATFE’s own field agents.

Earlier this year, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on and passed, by a vote of 277 to 149, an amendment to H.R. 1 (also offered by Rep. Rehberg, along with Rep. Dan Boren (D-Okla.)) that also would have prohibited the use of federal funds for this reporting requirement. Unfortunately, the amendment was not included in the final version of the bill as a result of Senate inaction.

In March, U.S. Sens. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) and Richard Burr (R-N.C.) introduced S. 570–“to prohibit the Department of Justice from tracking and cataloguing the purchases of multiple rifles and shotguns.” The bill would ensure that federal funds cannot be used for the multiple sales reporting procedure.

NRA will continue to work to make sure the Rehberg Amendment makes it through the appropriations process. The amendment is scheduled to be heard on the House floor in August.

While the Rehberg Amendment is a critically important first step, it is imperative that you contact your U.S. Senators and ask them to cosponsor and support S. 570. Ohio --(Ammoland.com)- Having failed in their apparent goal of creating demand for gun control legislation by allowing thousands of guns to “walk” into Mexico, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney announced on Thursday, July 7, that the Obama administration is set to impose a series of gun control “reforms”via executive order.

The reforms, which are being crafted by the Department of Justice, come after a series of meetings with relevant stakeholders in the Second Amendment debate. But in a nod to the difficulties of getting legislation through a Republican-run House of Representatives, only executive orders or administrative actions — and not an actual bill — are expected to be handed to Congress.

Administration officials were coy on the specifics, from the reforms the Department of Justice would recommend or when it would actually make those recommendations.

“The president directed the Attorney General to form working groups with key stakeholders to identify common sense measures that would improve American safety and security while fully respecting Second Amendment rights,” Carney said at Thursday’s briefing. “That process is well underway at the Department of Justice with stakeholders on all sides working through these complex issues and we expect to have more specific announcements in the near future.”

Just how near? Carney would only say “not far in the future.” Another administration official said weeks would be an appropriate measurement.

According to Fox News, what still remains unclear is just how far out on a limb the president is willing to go on gun control. “If he goes too far,” the report says, “the Second Amendment debate could reach great heights as the president battles for his re-election. If he doesn’t go far enough, some in his base may view him as weak on gun laws.”

The Huffington Post cheerily notes that “when the recommendations do come, it will represent the most comprehensive move on the gun control front from this administration to date,” and concludes by observing that “executive actions offer something that legislation doesn’t: guaranteed results.”
