title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)-Today we’re taking a look at a different facet of the shooting sports – high-power, long-range rifle competition. While our crack investigative team was surfing the internetz, we ran across .30 Cal Gal, known in civilian circles as Anette Wachter. Anette seems to think that it’s humanly possible to shoot at targets up to 1,000 yards away using iron sights. Right. As if you can even see anything 2/3 of a mile away. On further investigation, we found that she’s actually telling the truth. Not only do she and her husband Charles shoot at targets almost over the visual horizon, they actually hit them. Frequently. Apparently scopes are for sissies.

Here’s the complete interview with .30 Cal Gal…

For the life of me, I can’t remember little leagues in my neighborhood for long range rifle shooting. I mean, we had soccer, t-ball, swimming, and some other stuff, but I don’t think we had any Palma matches at our local YMCA. My daughter was a Brownie, and she definitely did not have the option to earn a High-Power Rifle badge. So how did you end up getting involved in this sport?

I was a city kid growing up. No 4H programs at my school. Maybe some disco and funk parties. (OK, I gave away my age a little bit) I have to give credit to my husband Charles for getting me in to this sport. When we met he was shooting the service rifle (AR15) in Across The Course matches. I did not want to be the “Golfer Widow” so I told him I would try shooting for one year and if I did not like it I would not do it and resign to another hobby while he would shoot. But I loved it. I loved it so much that in 2 years I caught up to his Master Class level when it took him 6 years to get that level. hee-hee. [Editor: We're not surprised. Guys don't listen to instructions very well.]

Two years ago another shooter came to me and suggested I try the long range prone shooting. He thought I would be good at it. He loaned me his rifle and brought me out to a range to zero it in and let me shoot it at a 500 yard match the next day. I only dropped two points. I bought that rifle.

For us, long range shooting is about 100 yards. On a good day. What is “long range” to you?

Hmmm… well you forgot one zero…

What was your most embarrassing competitive moment?

In April, we competed in the American/Canadian Full Bore Championship where I came in 3rd overall. To gather all my gear, I usually need two trips to the car so I left my rifle on a bench and brought first batch of gear to the truck. Charles was there and we started chatting about the last string and he asked if I wanted to walk Kozmo (our dog) back to the club house while he drove down. Sure! Off I went.

Six hours of driving later, we stopped for the night at a hotel. We start grabbing items to take inside and I saw he had a rifle over his shoulder and I asked if he had both of them. “No, I thought you had yours”. “No” I said. A feeling of dread came over me. Did we stop somewhere and maybe someone stole it? Then it hit me – the 1,000 yard line in Sacramento. I dropped to my knees almost in tears. My brand new rifle. My brand new very expensive rifle. How in the world could I have done this? I did not sleep. Charles was being very supportive and positive even though he had every right to be upset with me. Finally in the morning I called the pro-shop which is about 1/2 mile away from the rifle range. I Told the RO that I left “something” behind and needed desperately to reach our match director up at range. Sure he said. In awhile I will drive up there. “Do you mind me asking what you left behind?” he says. “Ummm…. my rifle.” “Oh my god! I am driving up there right now!”

To make a long story short, my rifle was still at the 1,000 yard line. Fortunately, that line is covered as it rained all night! I can’t go anywhere now without someone reminding me of this. Easier to blame it on the dog though.

To go back to embarrassing moments, my very first match was the WA State Championship. We show up and I am one of only 2 women there competing. I had no idea the attire needed. It was a warm day so I wore shorts. I had to borrow a shooting jacket from another guy who was tall and skinny, so it was pretty big on me. I’m standing in the offhand position and shooting when I notice at the corner of my eye a crowd watching. I realized the jacket came just to the edge of my shorts and it looked like I was wearing nothing underneath except my boots on my feet! That was about 7 years ago. People still remind me of that too.

After Breaking a National Record for 300 Yard Prone

This seems like a very specialized sport. What’s your travel radius? Do you have to travel all over for matches? You must have a Gulfstream G-5 to get you around right?

Yeah. Bill Gates just lives around the corner but we can never time our trips together to hitch a ride on his plane. Oh well.

I do travel a lot. There is only one 1,000 yard range in WA and tha is a 4 hour drive from Seattle. There are only 2 matches a year there. So I need to travel to get experience. This year especially. January was Phoenix, March and April were Sacramento and Phoenix again. May was Eastern WA and Portland. June will be Lodi, WI for a 7 day match! July has many local matches and then Chilliwack, BC, back to Portland and then finally on a plane again to Camp Perry for Nationals in August. Then I am taking a break. Sort of. Mostly local matches in Sept and Oct.

I used to work for Bill. Just let me know next time you need to use the jet and I’ll give him a call! So tell our readers about a Palma match. It all sounds very sophisticated and European. So it must be a pretty big deal.

Actually this did start in Europe. Back in the late 1800′s in fact. I recently did a blog post about Creedmoor the original long range firing range and the start of a little club called the NRA on Long Island. England, Ireland and Scotland would compete in prone shooting at the long distances. They challenged the US in a match which was held in the US the first time. The first Palma Trophy Match. The US won. Of course. The US went over to compete in Wimbleton the next year and beat them again. In front of 30,000 spectators! I can barely get my mom to come watch me. This World Cup is held every four years in a different participating country. The next one is this October in Australia. In 4 years from now it will be back in the US most likely at Camp Perry, Ohio.

Countries that have participated through the years but not necessarily in every match are: Argentina, Australia, Canada, Channel Islands, Continental Europe, East and Central Africa, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Kenya, Natal, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Rhodesia/Zimbabwe, Scotland, South Africa, Sweden, West Germany, West Indies and the United States.

Did I mention all of this shooting I do at 800, 900 and 1,000 yards is with iron sights? Yea, you think about that!

How many shots do you fire in a typical match? What kind of rifle do you use?

For the long range shooting the Palma category which is a rifle that must be a 30cal/.308 and the bullet must be no more than 155 grains has 15 rounds per string. We usually will shoot one string at each distance of 800, 900 and 1,000 yards. Or that format in a full bore match of 300, 500 and 600 yards or meters depending which country you are in.

Long range non Palma category consists of any rifle/iron sights, but I still use my Palma rifle, and we shoot 20 rounds at each yardage point. Each string allows 2 sighter shots also. Many days we add one more string at end for a Team event of another 20 rounds. So a basic weekend match is anywere from 120-160 rounds plus sighters. Now I know other disciplines like USPSA go through about 200 rounds in one afternoon. So it must seem like what I do is nothing at all. But when each shot must hit the X ring that is only one MOA wide from 1,000 yards away there is a bit more mental work involved. Not that pistol shooting isn’t mental! Oh boy, did I just tick off a bunch of people?

I use a Jim Cloward Special with RPA Quadlock Receiver. The barrel is a 30″ Krieger 5R. One of the design benefits to my rifle is that the barrel is less prone to copper fouling over time.

Do you have any last comments for our readers?

Shoot Like A Girl! If You Can…

While we were finishing up this interview, Anette was competing at the Washington State High Power Championship. You can read her coverage of the match here and here. This match was a piece of cake for the .30 Cal Gal as it was shot with the AR15 at only 200, 300, and 600 yard ranges. Only.

About:
AmmoLand Gun News

Manasquan, NJ --(Ammoland.com)- As a gunsmith I clean a lot of rifles.

I also fix a lot of rifles caused by improper cleaning; most of which are not permanently detrimental to the rifles or their accuracy, but each year I get a few rifles that are reduced to wall decorations.

If you ask 10 different shooters how they clean their AR rifle chances are you will get 10 different answers. Of course, the mechanics will be the same, but the details are different and we all know the devil is in the detail.

I interviewed two different groups of shooters to find out how they cleaned their rifles. Group one consisted of shooters who shoot much more than the average Joe including; competition shooters and shooters who are employed by firearm companies to do nothing but shoot firearms all day…Can that really be a job?

These shooters were adamant about their cleaning procedures – almost ritual like. A certain amount of patches wetted with a solvent or other concoction guaranteed to remove all the copper fouling and liberal amounts of elbow grease followed by dry patches and then neutralized so the solvent doesn’t pit the barrel followed by a patch lubed with oil to protect the bore.

Group two consisted mostly of gunsmiths who described horror stories of over-cleaning or improper cleaning procedures and whom spend little time cleaning their rifles, especially the barrel.

Somewhere in between is a happy medium.

The operation of the AR and its dirty little secret.
When the AR is fired; the gases from the ignited powder propels the bullet down the barrel. As the bullet passes over the gas orifice drilled in the barrel a small amount of gas, carbon and other crud travels down the small gas tube to the carrier key which actuates the bolt driving it rearward. Not all this gas, carbon and crud stay in the carrier key of the bolt. A lot of it gets deposited inside the rifle’s action.

I’m not sure who first coined the phrase, “The AR pukes on itself” but I can think of no better way to describe it. With as much crud that builds up inside the rifle it is a surprise it works as well as it does.

Cleaning the AR Style rifle – A method to the madness
The military teaches the newest of recruits to disassemble and reassemble a rifle using a systematic method. It is a good idea to employ this tactic in your cleaning.

Disassembling the rifle, I keep the groups together and as I disassemble these groups further, I place the parts on the bench from left to the right in the order they are removed from the rifle. When reassembling; the reverse order is used. This ensures no part is missed while cleaning or reassembling and is a good time to look for worn or broken parts.

I’m not going to go into the actual cleaning procedure as this is well documented on several video series like the ones from Brownells.

How To Clean the Ar15 Rifle

How much to clean
This question always resonates with me. I feel the amount the rifle is used and how it is used should dictate how much to clean your rifle.

If you are set up on a prairie dog town and shooting hundreds of rounds per day, detail cleaning the rifle, daily, to include a thorough barrel scrubbing should be considered SOP, the same with match shooting where precision bullet placement is crucial.

However, if you are going through a 5 day training class or casual plinking, I would punch the bore with a dry patch after each day afield removing any obvious build up from the inside as well as wiping down the exterior of the rifle.

If hunting with a black rifle, I would not punch the bore or use any petroleum product on the rifle until I was finished hunting for the season unless moisture became an issue.

Long term storage, anything more than a month, demands thorough cleaning of the rifle followed by an application of a protective coating like RIG or Cosmolene. Just remember to remove any thick preservative before the next shooting session.

Tools for cleaning
The simple design of the Modern Sporting Rifle makes cleaning and the tools needed fairly straight forward.

The cleaning rod – The cleaning rod should be a one piece rod coated with nylon or plastic sheath or made of brass. Stick with one manufacturer when choosing your cleaning rod. There is nothing more frustrating than digging through a drawer full of brushes, jags and eyelets that don’t fit the cleaning rod when you are trying to clean your rifle. Avoid the military sectional rods if possible; the sections bend easily and the steel on steel does a rifle bore no good.

Many shooters like a long shafted cleaning rod and a shorter coated rod with a “T” handle for cleaning the chamber and locking lug area.
<p

This eliminates the chance of scratching the rifle’s chamber or bore. If you are not using a bore guide, start!

Brushes - To clean the AR two types of brushes are advised. The chamber brush and the bore brush. The brushes should be made of phosphor bronze and the body of the brush of brass as should be the couplers. The chamber brush is used to clean the barrel extension which can pack full of crud and unburned powder which can prevent the bolt to close causing misfires.

The bore brush should match the bore diameter of the barrel. It is certainly a good idea to change bore brushes every six months, more if you tend to clean your rifle habitually. Check the Ar-15 Brush Pak

Standard issue AP (all purpose) brush – There’s nothing better to get into hard to reach places.

Patches – I’ve used some unlikely items for cleaning patches but to keep a rifles barrel in tip top shape I like uniformity in my patches, Too thick and they get stuck in the barrel, too thin and they won’t do a thorough job. As I write this, Brownell patches sit on my bench. They are sized properly both in size and thickness without trimming and only rarely do I stick one.

Solvents – So many solvents so little time.
I prefer a solvent designed for a specific purpose; copper solvents to remove copper build up and a powder solvent for general cleaning. I’ve used many different kinds and can’t say one is better than another. I have seen some copper solvents pit the bore so now I dry the bore and neutralize it with several patches wetted with denatured alcohol followed by several drying patches and finally a patch wetted with a light coat of oil like Hoppes.

Powder solvents are much the same; they all perform equally, but I do like the idea of a more green friendly approach as much for my well being and wear and tear on my hands as for the environment.

The new spray cleaners are very handy especially for a quick clean. Just spray the solvent, let it loosen the crud and then spray it out again.

One word of caution! When using any solvent on painted firearms especially the wildly popular camo finishes, either factory or after market, always test the solvent in an inconspicuous place like under the handguard. Some of these solvents can unknowingly double as a paint remover, I’ve seen firsthand these “Safe for all Finishes” solvents strip paint and coatings.

AR-15 lug recess cleaning tool to clean out the stubborn locking lug area. This tool, made of Delrin puts a cotton patch deep into the recess of the lug and cleans out the crud you cannot reach with a standard AP brush.

Holding fixtures like the Brownells Lower Receiver Holding Fixture Block is placed in a vice while allowing the rifle owner to use both hands to clean the rifle, however, the upper gets a little wobbly while in the holding fixture. To prevent this, the Sinclair AR-15 Rod Guide and Link Kit keeps the two halves locked together all the while allowing access to the barrel and the inside of the rifle.

The Brownells Handguard Tool is also handy if your AR style rifle is equipped with a delta ring. Simply insert the tool around the delta ring, place the lever point in the magazine well and press down on the delta ring. Brownells feature a video of how to use this and many other tools on their website.
<div

The oversize and tough nitrocarburized 4130 steel barrel attachment nut reduces heat transfer and the ergonomic handguard design offers a sleek, non-abrasive platform for comfortable dynamic shooting.

Light, strong and easy to install-the Wilson Combat T.R.I.M. AR-15 rail interface solves multiple installation issues our gunsmiths have encountered with other rail systems in over 10 years of building thousands of our custom AR-15 rifles. The entire T.R.I.M. interface can be easily end-user installed in five minutes with common hand tools and can be quickly removed or replaced with a different length rail interface in the field with nothing more than a hex key.

The T.R.I.M.’s attachment points enable the end-user to quickly position the supplied modular Picatinny rail panel on the attached interface in pre-specified locations. A generous inside diameter of 1.47″ accepts low profile gas blocks and many of the available piston gas systems. Integral push-button Q.D. sling swivel attachment points are located on both sides of the T.R.I.M. for the ultimate in sling mounting versatility.

TRIM Rail Specifications

TRIM 7.3 (Carbine-Length) 7.3” – 10.0 oz
Ammoland.com)- In a continually shifting world of firearms gadgetry, today’s discriminating second amendment protector is finally offered an AR-15 style rifle that utilizes time proven technology of Colt in a belt-fed configuration.

The Belt-fed, Semi-Automatic rifle (BSR – Mod 1) borrows from the original Stoner/Colt belt-fed design and utilizes modern technology to precisely machine the removable belt box and feed tray mechanism that converts a standard AR-15 style rifle into a belt-fed, semi-automatic support weapons platform.

Coupled with the proven design concepts from the original Colt system , Valkyrie Armament LLC can now provide all riflemen and women with a weapons platform that can utilize a virtually unlimited ammunition supply.

Maintaining 85% parts compatibility, modifications to the upper receiver and lower receiver in the form of cut outs and a bolt carrier drive system are the only design changes.

Complete BSR – Mod 1 weapon systems are available in addition to customer supplied conversions. Msrp $3300.00 for supplied rifle conversions

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness…
For those that are looking for that tactical, belt fed, 5.56mm weapons platform…Valkryie Armament is your answer. Born from an idea that Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness starts with a warm, belt-fed rifle, Valkryie Armament has reinvented the time-tested model of Eugene Stoner’s belt fed conversion into a modern day phoenix.

In the shooting sports, there are many options for you to consider when looking to buy a semi-automatic firearm. Rifles, pistols, shotguns…there all out there for you to consider. When looking for a belt fed, weapons platform, however, your options are far more limited. Cost, function, and caliber are three areas of concern that Valkryie Armament considered when improving the Stoner design. There just isn’t a more affordable belt fed, 5.56mm rifle on the market today.

Why a belt fed AR15 style rifle? Because you can.
We’ve all heard it before…why do you own an “assault rifle”…why do you need a “scary, black rifle”…why, why, why?

Simply put, because you can. In this great land of ours, the liberties that we all enjoy were born in the barrels and breeches of our forefather’s flintlocks. This truth is undeniable; however, it is continually under siege from the violent storm of opposition.

Valkyrie Armament is your conduit to politely tell those that ask you why…to go pound sand.

Credentials

39 years of machining experience

18 years experience USMC officer combat veteran

10 years full time Leo

Colt certified armoror

glock certified armorer

Certified firearms instructor

Valkyrie armament llc Class 2 SOT

www.beltfedar.com

Makosecurity.com

FARMINGDALE, NY --(AmmoLand.com)- The Mako Group (“Mako”), a leader in manufacturing, marketing and distributing weapons accessories, announces the GL-Shock – the first and only recoil-compensating collapsible stock for the M4 and AR-15 on the market today!

The GL-Shock, manufactured by FAB Defense in Israel, effectively reduces felt recoil and muzzle rise for better control when firing. The GL-Shock is also the perfect solution for AR-15s and AR-10s chambered in harder recoiling calibers, such as the 6.8 SPC, .308 Winchester, .450 Bushmaster, or .50 Beowulf. The Mako Group offers collapsible stock kits for the AK-47/74 and SA vz.58-style rifles and for Remington and Mossberg shotguns that can be combined with the GL-Shock to provide recoil reduction for these weapons.

The GL-Shock’s unique patented design allows it to be mounted on any standard MIL-SPEC or commercial carbine receiver extension (buffer tube). It is a drop-in replacement for the standard M4-style stock. The GL-Shock auto-adjusts to fit both commercial and MIL-SPEC buffer tubes with a tight, rattle-free fit. Unlike other recoil management systems for AR-15 carbines, the GL-Shock does not use expensive non-standard buffers or buffer springs which often affect the function of the weapon. With the GL-Shock, all factory buffer parts are retained, since recoil-reduction takes place in the stock itself.

The GL-Shock’s design is based on The Mako Group’s very successful GLR16 buttstock, a high-end M4/AR-15 stock with a two-battery storage compartment and a rubber buttpad. The tire tread-inspired, integrated rubber buttpad grips body armor or tactical vests, improving weapon control. The GL-Shock features slots for three sling attachment locations, as well as quick-detach sling swivel mounts on both the left and right sides of the stock.

Pushing a button allows the GL-Shock’s rubber buttpad to slide down, exposing a gasket-sealed waterproof battery compartment. The GL-Shock’s enlarged storage compartment fits a wider array of batteries and spare parts, such as extra firing pins, gas rings, springs, or extractors.

An optional and fully-adjustable cheek riser is available for the GL-Shock (GL-ShockCP). It provides the proper eye height for carry handle-mounted optics on M4/AR-15 carbines. The GL-ShockCP is ideal for the optic-equipped AK-47, vz.58, or any shotgun that has a low stock height designed for iron sight use.

As with all of The Mako Group’s products, the GL-Shock and GL-ShockCP come with a limited lifetime warranty.

“Many customers have been asking The Mako Group for a recoil-compensating AR-15 stock”, says Addy Sandler, The Mako Group’s CEO. “We expect the GL-Shock to redefine the handling characteristics of AR-15 carbines. The recoil reducing design and modular cheek riser also make the GL-Shock the ideal solution for shotguns and larger caliber rifles.”

GL-Shock retail pricing is $108.80. GL-ShockCP retail pricing is $119.05. Additional information and Ammoland.com)- ArmaLite is proud to announce that its new SPR Mod 1Continuous Optics Platform kit, the “COP Kit,” is now in stock and available for immediate shipment to customers.

Armalite® introduced the new SPR Mod 1 Continuous Optics Platform (COP™) system as a whole .223 carbine at January’s SHOT Show. The SPR Mod 1 carbine is a forged, one-piece upper receiver/rail system with exclusive detachable side and bottom rails.

Because of many customer requests, the development of the COP system as a separate parts kit was close behind. The ArmaLite “COP Kit” lets you build your upper the way YOU want it. Then, you can attach it to your favorite lower to build the whole gun you’ve always wanted!

With the COP Kit, you can change your 1913 rails to fit your changing needs for sights… lights… lasers… grips… or swivels.
Because the continuous optics platform is one piece, there’s no gap to bridge between receiver and upper rail when installing your scope or sights. This one-piece construction’s strength and rigidity will also keep your sights zeroed in the most trying conditions.

The new SPR Mod 1 COP Kit typifies the “ArmaLite Standard of Excellence.”
Each COP Kit includes:

ArmaLite Special Purpose (SPR) MOD 1 Rifle

But ArmaLite knows you and your firearm often have more than one mission, and you want options. ArmaLite gives you just that. The SPR Mod 1′s three o’clock, six o’clock, and nine o’clock rails are detachable. That’s right, you can change your 1913 rails to fit your changing needs for sights… lights… lasers… grips… or swivels.

ArmaLite takes that versatility even further. Each SPR Mod 1 comes with three extra rails standard, at no extra cost. We give you a 1913 rail with a quick detach sling swivel hole. Each rifle comes with a low insert for when you need a bare rail with a low profile. There’s also a plain insert with a quick detach sling swivel hole. Changing your rails… your add-ons… and your SPR Mod 1… is as easy as turning a torque wrench.

Ingenious versatility isn’t the only reason you’ll want an SPR Mod 1. Its one-piece construction offers you a continuous optics platform (COP). There’s no gap to bridge between receiver and upper rail when you’re installing your scope or sights. This one-piece construction also gives the sighting platform extra rigidity. It’s a good, strong backbone. That means your sights will stay zeroed in the most trying conditions.

The SPR Mod 1 typifies the “ArmaLite Standard of Excellence.” With us, quality comes standard. There’s no extra charge for: the SPR Mod 1′s chrome lined, chrome moly vanadium steel barrel; its two-stage tactical trigger; the patented, extra strength steel bolt assembly; or the hard coated finish. These are all things that other companies consider options at an added cost.

The introduction of the new ArmaLite SPR Mod 1 is truly a new chapter in our history of innovation and our dedication to the quality you deserve.

Caliber: .223/5.56 NATO

Barrel: 16″ chrome lined, chrome moly vanadium steel

Rifling twist: RH 1:7″

Muzzle Device: Flash suppressor

Front Sight Base: Picatinny gas block

Sights: A.R.M.S. polymer #71L-F & #71L-R

Trigger: Tactical two stage

Length: 35.5″ with stock extended, approximately 32″ collapsed

Weight: Approximately 6.5 lbs.

Accuracy: 1.5 – 2.5 MOA

Bushmaster Firearms

Windham, ME – -(AmmoLand.com)- The Adaptive Combat Rifle (ACR) was conceived to provide a more reliable, accurate and mission-configurable, American-made rifle platform for today’s military, law enforcement agencies and commercial tactical markets. The ACR is specifically designed to meet the challenges of the modern battlefield from close-quarters applications to the long-range marksman; configured in the field without the use of tools. Three American companies – Magpul Industries Corp, Bushmaster Firearms International, LLC (BFI) and Remington Arms Company, Inc. – shared a common design vision to put the best, most versatile rifle into the hands of the US Military. With emerging concept designs and after rigorous testing, Bushmaster, Magpul® and Remington® utilized the strongest materials and components to produce the most innovative and adaptable combat rifle yet – the ACR for military, law enforcement and commercial applications.

The ACR offers the ability to change calibers from 5.56mm/223 Rem to 6.8mm Rem SPC in minutes by swapping the bolt head, barrel and magazine. Barrels, stocks, and accessories can also be changed, without tools, at the user level allowing the ACR to go from a close-quarters battle platform to a designated marksman platform. The ACR gives the operator all of the options needed, while utilizing a superbly reliable gas piston operating system, fire selector capability, a non-reciprocating charging handle and intuitive, ambidextrous controls on a platform that is a natural fit for any operator.

Standard core features of the ACR include 16.5-inch, cold hammer-forged barrel system, featuring proprietary protective coating for enhanced barrel life and maintenance reduction, with quick-change 10.5, 14.5 and 18-inch barrel length options in multiple calibers; A2 “birdcage-type” suppressor for muzzle blast reduction; adjustable, 2-position gas-piston system to support suppressed or unsuppressed firing; hardened internal bearing rails; bolt carrier assemblies for 223.5.56mm NATO to 6.8mm Rem SPC; ambidextrous operator controls for magazine release, bolt catch and release, fire selector and non-reciprocating charging handle; hand guard, lower receiver and stock constructed from a rugged high-impact composite; and to further enhance operation and reduce wear, all action components feature our innovative protective coating.

Added to the core platform features of this fully-adaptable rifle are free-floating MIL-STD 1913 monolithic top rail for optics mounting; enhanced hand guard with heat shield and acceptance of rail inserts; functional lower receiver design with textured magazine well and easily-accessible, modular grip storage; A-frame style stock with rubber butt pad and sling attachment mounts; Magpul MBUS front and rear flip sights; and 30-round PMAG. Mission-ready, all ACR components ship in an oversized, hard case with room for accessory storage.

The Bushmaster ACR for the commercial market is available in the Basic and Enhanced configurations. The additional features for the Enhanced version include an AAC® Blackout™ NSM Flash Hider for exceptional reduction of muzzle flash; multi-functional, three-sided aluminum hand guard with integral MIL-STD 1913 accessory rail; and folding, six-position telescoping composite stock with rubber butt pad, sling attachment mounts and 2-point push button sling. Each configuration of the commercial ACR is offered in a non-reflective, black finish or Coyote Brown (30118). Suggested retail price: Basic $2,685 and Enhanced $3,061.

By combining dedicated, multi-brand research and development; relentless iterations of torture testing; and the most advanced materials available in the market today with Bushmaster’s uncompromising commitment to quality construction – the result is the ultimate, fully-modular, combat-adaptable Bushmaster ACR.

Wilson Combat

Berryville, AR – -(AmmoLand.com)- After a tremendous amount of research and testing by Bill Wilson and the Wilson Combat team we are excited to announce the availability of our custom AR platform rifles chambered in 6.8 SPC caliber.

The 6.8 SPC (6.8x43mm) was initially developed by MSG Steve Holland and Chris Murray a United States Army Marksmanship Unit gunsmith to offer superior downrange lethality over the 5.56 NATO/.223 Remington in an AR pattern service rifle with minimal loss of magazine capacity and a negligible increase in recoil.

When built to the level of quality and precision Wilson Combat has achieved the 6.8 SPC is also capable of outstanding accuracy and reliability. In our match-grade, Spec II chambered 16” barrels, The 6.8 SPC is capable of pushing a .277 caliber, 85gr bullet to over 2900 FPS. 110gr bullets easily achieve 2500 FPS with factory loaded ammunition. Appropriate hand loading can achieve even higher velocities and enable the use of heavier projectiles up to 130 grains, which dramatically improves terminal ballistics over a 5.56 Nato/.223 Remington at long range.

This added ballistic performance makes the 6.8 SPC perfect for home protection and SRT/SWAT teams. The 6.8 is a truly ideal hunting round for medium to heavy game and turns the AR into a serious hunting rifle.

Wilson Combat hopes to become your one stop shop for all your 6.8 SPC needs.

National Shooting Sports Foundation

NEWTOWN, Conn.—-(AmmoLand.com)- Whether you’re a hunter, target shooter, own a firearm for self protection or don’t own a firearm at all, the National Shooting Sports Foundation asks you to be informed about AR-15-style rifles.

These rifles are often mislabeled “assault rifles” or “assault weapons.” They are neither.

Nevertheless, many hunters and shooters and the general public confuse AR-15-style rifles, which are civilian sporting rifles, with military rifles because they look similar to each other.

“Groups wanting to ban AR-15-style rifles have for years purposely spread misinformation about these firearms to aid their cause,” said Steve Sanetti, president of NSSF.

“We must work harder to help protect the right of hunters and sports shooters to own the firearms of their choice, including semi-automatic rifles, pistols and shotguns, for lawful purposes. Gun owners everywhere can help correct the misinformed, whether it’s a friend, fellow hunter, elected official or the media.

NSSF is assisting this nationwide campaign by issuing the Modern Sporting Rifle Fact Card as a resource.”

Use the fact card for your own reference, pass it on to individuals or groups, or post the information on blogs and Web and social media sites.

The pocket-size fact card is available to read or download as a pdf at www.nssf.org/msr.

Here are the facts:

AR-15-platform rifles are among the most popular firearms being sold. They are today’s modern sporting rifle.

The AR in “AR-15″ rifle stands for Armalite rifle, after the company that developed it in the 1950s. “AR” does NOT stand for “assault rifle” or “automatic rifle.”

AR-15-style rifles are NOT “assault weapons” or “assault rifles.” An assault rifle is fully automatic — a machine gun. Automatic firearms have been severely restricted from civilian ownership since 1934.

If someone calls an AR-15-style rifle an “assault weapon,” he or she either supports banning these firearms or does not understand their function and sporting use, or both. Please correct them. “Assault weapon” is a political term created by California anti-gun legislators to ban some semi-automatic rifles there in the 1980s.

AR-15-style rifles look like military rifles, such as the M-16, but function like other semi-automatic civilian sporting firearms, firing only one round with each pull of the trigger.

Versions of modern sporting rifles are legal to own in all 50 states, provided the purchaser passes the mandatory FBI background check required for all retail firearm purchasers.

Since the 19th century, civilian sporting rifles have evolved from their military predecessors. The modern sporting rifle simply follows that tradition.

These rifles’ accuracy, reliability, ruggedness and versatility serve target shooters and hunters well. They are true all-weather firearms.

Chamberings include .22, .223 (5.56 x 45mm), 6.8 SPC, .308, .450 Bushmaster and about a dozen others. Upper receivers for pistol calibers such as 9 mm, .40, and .45 are available. There are even .410 shotgun versions.

These rifles are used for many different types of hunting, from varmint to big game. And they’re used for target shooting in the national matches.

AR-15-style rifles are no more powerful than other hunting rifles of the same caliber and in most cases are chambered in calibers less powerful than common big-game hunting cartridges like the 30-06 Springfield and .300 Win. Mag.

The AR-15 platform is modular. Owners like being able to affix different “uppers” (the barrel and chamber) to the “lower” (the grip, stock).

And, they are a lot of fun to shoot!

About NSSF <br

This military-to-civilian evolution can be seen in some of the most famous rifle models of all time, including the 1903 Springfield bolt-action rifle of World War I, the Garand semi-automatic rifle of World War II and the M-16 rifle of the Vietnam era. In the case of the M-16, its civilian version, the AR-15, was modified so that it functioned only as a semi-automatic.

Today’s AR-15-style modern sporting rifles are just another step in the evolution of the tools hunters and target shooters use to enjoy their activities. These rifles may not look like current hunting rifles, but remember, your current hunting rifle probably doesn’t look much like your grandfather’s rifle either.

Sanetti emphasized that these AR-15-platform sporting rifles are not “assault weapons,” as they are frequently and incorrectly labeled by organizations, media and elected officials who would like to ban them. “An assault weapon is fully automatic — a machine gun — while rifles based on the AR-15 platform are semi-automatic,” said Sanetti. “Civilian ownership of fully automatic firearms has been severely restricted since 1934.”

The multi-pronged campaign will use print, video and Web-based components to reach as wide an audience as possible, with emphasis placed on educating sportsmen whose preference for traditional-looking firearms can lead them to misunderstand AR-15-platform rifles and to even describe them using terms such as “assault weapon,” which inadvertently lends support to those wanting to ban these rifles.

The campaign’s educational ads have been placed in major firearm and sporting magazines such as Field & Stream and Outdoor Life and on outdoor cable television networks. The campaign’s materials can also be seen on a dedicated Web site, which expands the educational messages delivered in the media campaign to promote an even better understanding of how civilian sporting rifles have evolved from military rifles over time.

The Web site offers video, a timeline of military-to-civilian rifle evolution plus interactive features that identify the components and functionality of modern sporting rifles. There is also a facts section of the site, where gun owners can arm themselves with facts to correct individuals, media and organizations who are misinformed about these rifles.

“We ask everyone who values their gun ownership rights to correct misunderstandings about the use and operation of these modern sporting rifles,” said Sanetti. “If we let misinformation go unchecked, we only assist those who would ban ownership of these and other types of semi-automatic firearms, like your duck-hunting shotgun. We can’t let that happen.”

Visit the Web site at www.nssf.org/MSR to learn more about modern sporting rifles.

About NSSF<br
