The curved magazine grip (MGRIP) provides the shooter with a curved surface with ridges to grasp. The lightweight 3.2 oz grip mounts easily to any Picatinny rail with a vice like screw tightened clamping mechanism and provides the operator with a comfortable forward grasp.

The finger groove magazine grip (MGRIP1) provides the user with three ergonomic indentations for comfortable finger placement. In addition, there is a plugged waterproof storage compartment for batteries or other small objects. On both sides of the grip are removable covers for the recessed pressure switch mounting channels.

The grip is designed with 2 rails to assist in guiding the magazine into the magazine well. The lightweight 3.2 oz grip mounts to any Picatinny rail with a vice like screw tightened clamping mechanism and provides the operator with a comfortable forward grasp.

The magazine well grip (MGRIP2) is a two-piece grip that does not require a Picatinny rail for mounting. Just tighten the lightweight 3.2 oz grip around the magazine well and you have comfortable finger grooves and two removable covers for the recessed pressure switch mounting channels.

Maryland --(AmmoLand.com)- Well folks, just when you thought that there might be some hope that the anti-gun faithful members of the Maryland State Senate had learned their lesson about proposing nonsense bills like bans on so-called assault weapons, they prove otherwise.

Senator Mike Lennett (D), District 19, Montgomery County, has introduced SB516, the Maryland Assault Weapons Ban of 2010. His co-sponsors are a veritable Who’s Who of the anti-gun wing of the Senate.

Now’s the time to head this thing off before the hearing is even scheduled and let the members of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee know that Maryland citizens will not tolerate such an egregious infringement on their rights in the name of political grandstanding.

SB516 Facts:

• Expands the definition of the assault pistol ban to encompass all firearms designated as assault weapons.
• Anything determined to be a copycat of the named firearms would be included. Given the Maryland State Police’s very liberal interpretation of what constitutes a copycat, we see this list encompassing any firearm that meets the required criteria of looking scary.
• Includes semi-automatic pistols with detachable magazines that also have threaded barrels.
• Includes semi-automatic shotguns with folding or telescoping stocks that also have a pistol grip or thumbhole stock
• Bans forward pistol grips.
• You must REGISTER your firearms before December 10, 2010 so that you have the luxury of being able to keep the firearms you already own.
• Naturally, this bill does not apply to governmental agencies, but they do give you the option of rendering your firearm permanently inoperable.

Here’s what we need you to do:

• Contact your Senator and let them know that you oppose SB516.
• Contact the members of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee and let them know that you oppose SB516
• Spread the word to your fellow gun owners. Reinforce to them that this is not really just about “assault weapons”. It is about launching the first strike in a continual erosion of the ability to own any firearms in Maryland. We must stick together.

• Use the phone list below to make phone calls to the member of the Judical Proceedings Committee. Tell them that you oppose SB516.

Perfecting the “Magazine Hold”
Grauer’s evaluations found that many warfighters actually use their weapon differently in combat than how they were trained – by grasping the magazine well area with their non-shooting hand.

This “magazine hold” is often preferred even with weapons equipped with vertical fore-grips. Warfighters do this for very intuitive and ergonomic reasons. But grasping the weapon this way is problematic with current AR configurations. The hands are placed too close together for adequate control and the non-shooting hand comes into contact with the magazine, which could lead to jams.

Grauer developed the IGRS to embrace and improve upon the widely used magazine hold – while fully addressing both of these shortfalls. IGRS spreads the hands further apart, providing an ideal natural balance to the weapon while improving overall control. The design also keeps the shooters hands off the magazine using this hold, avoiding potential jams.

But the unique integrated platform approach used in designing IGRS has allowed Grauer to provide additional capabilities that improve the usability of existing AR weapons:

• Superior Rail Loading – IGRS eliminates the need for a vertical grip, which reduces forward weight and frees up the lower rail position for better light integration.
• Flared Magazine Funnel – Grauer has integrated the most advanced magazine funnel available for weapons today. Its unique asymmetric shape maximizes functionality while minimizing bulk. The result is a much faster reloading with smooth, slam-it-in, eyes-on-target confidence.

AR-style rifles have made up a significant portion of firearms sales in recent years, and more companies are introducing new models of these versatile, modular rifles every day. AR-style rifles are widely used for target shooting and are becoming increasingly popular among hunters as new small- and big-game calibers are made available in these rifles.

Unfortunately, despite their popularity misconceptions about AR-style rifles continue to proliferate among hunters, shooters and the general public, mainly because of cosmetic reasons. AR-style rifles may look like military rifles but they function as semi-automatics, firing one round with each pull of the trigger. More traditional hunters and shooters need to understand and accept today’s trends in sporting rifles, particularly among new firearms owners and new generations of shooters.

NSSF’s campaign seeks to correct misconceptions about today’s Modern Sporting Rifles. At the same time, NSSF wants sportsmen to support each other’s right to use the firearm of their choice and to be united in response to any potential legislation that could deny ownership of these rifles and other semi-automatic firearms, too.

THOR Global Defense Group Donates TR-15 Rifles to CLEET

Southeastern Oklahoma --(AmmoLand.com)- Oklahoma based LOKI Weapon Systems, a subsidiary of THOR Global Defense Group, recently donated the first of ten custom built TR-15 rifles to the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) in Ada, Oklahoma. This donation (10 rifles) has a retail value over $15,000 but the real value is in the training opportunities it provides for Oklahoma’s peace officers.

CLEET is the state agency, which is responsible for training the majority of Oklahoma’s peace officers. Senator Susan Paddack was one of those in attendance for the donation.

She stated, “This donation comes at a time when all state agencies are experiencing budget cuts and scaling back operations. Oklahoma is fortunate to have businesses that recognize the needs of state agencies and take steps to help them better serve our citizens.”

Nevertheless, many hunters and shooters and the general public confuse AR-15-style rifles, which are civilian sporting rifles, with military rifles because they look similar to each other.

“Groups wanting to ban AR-15-style rifles have for years purposely spread misinformation about these firearms to aid their cause,” said Steve Sanetti, president of NSSF.

“We must work harder to help protect the right of hunters and sports shooters to own the firearms of their choice, including semi-automatic rifles, pistols and shotguns, for lawful purposes. Gun owners everywhere can help correct the misinformed, whether it’s a friend, fellow hunter, elected official or the media.

NSSF is assisting this nationwide campaign by issuing the Modern Sporting Rifle Fact Card as a resource.”

Here are the facts:

• AR-15-platform rifles are among the most popular firearms being sold. They are today’s modern sporting rifle.

• The AR in “AR-15″ rifle stands for Armalite rifle, after the company that developed it in the 1950s. “AR” does NOT stand for “assault rifle” or “automatic rifle.”
• AR-15-style rifles are NOT “assault weapons” or “assault rifles.” An assault rifle is fully automatic — a machine gun. Automatic firearms have been severely restricted from civilian ownership since 1934.
• If someone calls an AR-15-style rifle an “assault weapon,” he or she either supports banning these firearms or does not understand their function and sporting use, or both. Please correct them. “Assault weapon” is a political term created by California anti-gun legislators to ban some semi-automatic rifles there in the 1980s.
• AR-15-style rifles look like military rifles, such as the M-16, but function like other semi-automatic civilian sporting firearms, firing only one round with each pull of the trigger.
• Versions of modern sporting rifles are legal to own in all 50 states, provided the purchaser passes the mandatory FBI background check required for all retail firearm purchasers.
• Since the 19th century, civilian sporting rifles have evolved from their military predecessors. The modern sporting rifle simply follows that tradition.
• These rifles’ accuracy, reliability, ruggedness and versatility serve target shooters and hunters well. They are true all-weather firearms.
• Chamberings include .22, .223 (5.56 x 45mm), 6.8 SPC, .308, .450 Bushmaster and about a dozen others. Upper receivers for pistol calibers such as 9 mm, .40, and .45 are available. There are even .410 shotgun versions.
• These rifles are used for many different types of hunting, from varmint to big game. And they’re used for target shooting in the national matches.
• AR-15-style rifles are no more powerful than other hunting rifles of the same caliber and in most cases are chambered in calibers less powerful than common big-game hunting cartridges like the 30-06 Springfield and .300 Win. Mag.
• The AR-15 platform is modular. Owners like being able to affix different “uppers” (the barrel and chamber) to the “lower” (the grip, stock).
• And, they are a lot of fun to shoot!

Berryville, AR – -(AmmoLand.com)-The IDPA Nationals is just around the corner and I have yet to find any time to practice. I hope you are going into the fall shooting season better prepared than I am.

Seems like work and lack of ammo has kept me off the range. I plan to turn over a new leaf next year and get far more active in shooting again. After years of shooting every weekend and practicing any other time I could get, it seems difficult to regain that focus I once had in my shooting. I guess it happens to all of us at some point, we need to take some time off from activities to regain our enthusiasm. I can feel mine returning and hopefully spending time with everyone in Tulsa for the Nationals will kindle the fires.

This has been a strange year in the industry. At times .22 ammo was not to be found, and I understand that .380 ammo is still not available in most stores. Here at the office the ammo shortages have delayed test-fire and created all sorts of issues for us to complete the process and ship guns to our customers. I have talked to customers that are shooting ammo that they would never have purchased in the past due to shortages on their dealer shelves. Please remember that like any quality product, it requires a diet of good quality ammo.

Looking over current trends it seems like the 9mm is the current upturn in requests for pistols. I guess due to ammo prices and ease of shooting it is no wonder. The recent addition of the 9mm ETM magazine has helped that a great deal. I still remember the first time I shot a 9mm 1911; it was so much fun you would not believe. I guess others already knew how fun the 1911 could be in 9mm, I was on the back side of the bus. The largest single problem that was had by all was unavailable and poor quality magazines for it. Well the 9mm ETM helped everyone that wanted to give it a try. While the 9mm lends itself to double stack magazines, after spending a great deal of time we got it right. I was amazed how many different approaches were used over the years to get old 1911s in 9mm to work. I guess like it all started, they were modified to work with existing magazines. When we designed the 9mm ETM, it was a targeted goal of ten rounds that would feed in most every 1911 on the market. We even purchased some old pistols, dusted off some others, and put them all to the test. The results as you know are outstanding. “The best-selling rifles in America today are those based on the AR-15 platform — they are today’s modern sporting rifles — yet they remain America’s most misunderstood firearm because of confusion caused by their cosmetic features,” said Steve Sanetti, president of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, trade association for the firearms industry.

Sanetti said the confusion is understandable because a modern sporting rifle looks like a military firearm, like an M-16, for example. “We want people to understand that these civilian sporting rifles function just like many other sporting rifles, as semi-automatics, firing only one round with each pull of the trigger, and are widely used by hunters and target shooters and for home protection. They are not ‘evil’ or ‘bad’ firearms, as some would have you think,” Sanetti emphasized.

The media campaign illustrates how for more than 100 years rifles used by the military that possess battlefield requirements of accuracy, ruggedness and reliability became, understandably, popular civilian sporting rifles. This military-to-civilian evolution can be seen in some of the most famous rifle models of all time, including the 1903 Springfield bolt-action rifle of World War I, the Garand semi-automatic rifle of World War II and the M-16 rifle of the Vietnam era. In the case of the M-16, its civilian version, the AR-15, was modified so that it functioned only as a semi-automatic.

Today’s AR-15-style modern sporting rifles are just another step in the evolution of the tools hunters and target shooters use to enjoy their activities. These rifles may not look like current hunting rifles, but remember, your current hunting rifle probably doesn’t look much like your grandfather’s rifle either.

Sanetti emphasized that these AR-15-platform sporting rifles are not “assault weapons,” as they are frequently and incorrectly labeled by organizations, media and elected officials who would like to ban them. “An assault weapon is fully automatic — a machine gun — while rifles based on the AR-15 platform are semi-automatic,” said Sanetti. “Civilian ownership of fully automatic firearms has been severely restricted since 1934.”

The multi-pronged campaign will use print, video and Web-based components to reach as wide an audience as possible, with emphasis placed on educating sportsmen whose preference for traditional-looking firearms can lead them to misunderstand AR-15-platform rifles and to even describe them using terms such as “assault weapon,” which inadvertently lends support to those wanting to ban these rifles.

The campaign’s educational ads have been placed in major firearm and sporting magazines such as Field & Stream and Outdoor Life and on outdoor cable television networks. The campaign’s materials can also be seen on a dedicated Web site, which expands the educational messages delivered in the media campaign to promote an even better understanding of how civilian sporting rifles have evolved from military rifles over time.

The Web site offers video, a timeline of military-to-civilian rifle evolution plus interactive features that identify the components and functionality of modern sporting rifles. There is also a facts section of the site, where gun owners can arm themselves with facts to correct individuals, media and organizations who are misinformed about these rifles.

“We ask everyone who values their gun ownership rights to correct misunderstandings about the use and operation of these modern sporting rifles,” said Sanetti. “If we let misinformation go unchecked, we only assist those who would ban ownership of these and other types of semi-automatic firearms, like your duck-hunting shotgun. We can’t let that happen.”

This Week: Bob Cuts The Cards With Small Bullets

Brownells.com - -(AmmoLand.com)-We’ve been doing some “reality checks” around here last week, trying to get a handle on how our industry is doing and how we need to prepare for the upcoming year.

As we look back, it would seem that most all of us in the industry have had a fantastic run of business. Our industry has been recognized by shooters, non-shooters and even the economic whiz-kids on Wall Street, as one of the very few bright spots during this economic downturn.

You probably saw it in the huge volume of sales starting right at the election in November, 2008, peaking somewhere around Easter, 2009 and then sliding back closer to the traditional summer slow-down we always see.

In doing our analysis here, we asked ourselves the following three questions and tried to come up with answers. You might want to stop a moment and with a fresh cup of coffee, ask yourself these questions about your business and how you feel about your future.

1. Is this “Obama Gun Sale Bubble” over?
2. Is demand for firearms and ammunition coming down to the standard demand curve for our business?
3. What can we do for the remainder of 2009 and all of 2010 to match or beat those high sales in the “Bubble” months of 2008-09?

We came up with some answers, which I’ll pass along to you, but they really are only our opinions from our viewpoint. Hopefully you will find something in here which will be beneficial to you in your business.

We believe the insane demand level for tactical firearms is over and future demands for these products will come back down to the industry norms. Keep in mind, though, there have been a huge number of non-traditional firearms buyers making purchases of AR-15’s. So there are a lot of customers out there who will still want to accessorize and modify one of the world’s most versatile and popular platforms. Definitely still a market for AR-15 “stuff”, but a much softer one for the basic platform itself.

The conceal carry/home defense market, however, is starting to heat up and right now is the beginning of a “short boom”, not as significant as tactical rifles, but one nonetheless. We don’t know how much leg this market can get under it or how long it might run. It is getting lots of play right now in the gun press, so take a look at how you can get into it modestly and watch it closely.

We strongly believe the reloading and ammo markets are still underserved and have strong growth ahead of them. It will take longer to get these markets back to a norm because the primer shortage. The deep fluctuations/price increases in the metals markets from which most of these ammo components are made – lead, copper, brass has an impact on availability and prices. Our industry’s share of these markets is not even a wrinkle, and we have neither control nor any leverage we can bring into play. We just have to wait for the metals markets to settle out.

Shotgun and hunting markets did not seem to have the favorable run-up as the tactical weapons market. From what we think we see, there might be some returning strength. It looks like reservations for hunts have still to recover. We definitely expect those to slowly come back, but quite possibly not until folks are more comfortable the economy has settled down and a general recovery is underway. Hunts are discretionary, more easily put off.

For net results for 2009, don’t focus too much on beating year-over-year numbers. Our last year was way out of the norm. Instead focus on the year’s sales number. With the history we’ve had, it would actually be acceptable to have a 0% growth year in 2010 – it all depends when your fiscal year ends and where the “Obama Bubble” fell. Sometimes it’s just nice to have survived and to be able to move on!

Offering the fit and feel of the company’s popular Military & Police (M&P) Rifle Series, the M&P15-22 is a dedicated .22 LR platform manufactured with a high strength polymer upper and lower receiver, offering reduced weight while being chambered in the more economical ammunition.

“The new M&P15-22 was specifically designed to offer consumers, law enforcement and military professionals, as well as AR-15 enthusiasts a lightweight yet durable rifle with operating controls that function identically to other M&P15 rifles currently in production.” said Tom Kelly, Vice President of Marketing for Smith & Wesson. “Since the rifle is chambered in the more affordable .22 LR ammunition, the M&P15-22 provides sport shooters and working professionals with an opportunity to practice and train without the higher cost and scarcity of .223 ammunition.”

The M&P15-22 features a 16-inch barrel with a twist of 1 in 15 inches. The semi-automatic rifle is standard with a six-position collapsible stock to accommodate a variety of shooters and shooting positions, an A3 style flat top upper receiver with a quad-rail handguard for easily mounting optional accessories and an A2 pistol grip for improved firearm control.

The M&P15-22 also features a fully functional charging handle, an AR-15 style magazine release, bolt catch and a two-position receiver mounted safety. The M&P15-22 is complete with a removable 25 round magazine along with a removable A2-style front post sight, an adjustable A2-style rear sight and a single stage trigger. An optional barrel shroud will be available later this fall.

By remaining true to the standard AR-15 design while offering all of the preferred features found on the M&P Rifle Series, the M&P15-22 is well suited for a variety of recreational shooting applications while also serving as an extremely viable training firearm for law enforcement and military personnel.

The M&P15-22 has an unloaded weight of approximately 5 pounds. The rifle measures a compact 31 inches with the stock collapsed and 34 inches with the stock fully extended. The M&P15-22 is designed to accept all 1913 Mil. Std. rail adaptable accessories, Mil-Spec carbine stocks and most standard after-market AR-15 pistol grips.

Ohio - -(AmmoLand.com)- Competitors at the National Rifle Matches in Ohio were introduced to the new Creedmoor Sports NMAR designed for both the new CMP NMAR discipline and real-time practice.

With over 220 entries, Paul Kerr out-shot all of the competitors to win the Bernosky Challenge event on August 8, 2009, with a 197-8x score. USAMU shooter, Brandon Green, finished a close second, scoring 197-3x. Carl Bernosky, for which the match was named after, came in third place at 196-4x. Those out-scoring Carl Bernosky took home cash prizes totaling of over $1000.

The new NATIONAL MATCH AIR RIFLE discipline was developed by the CMP to simulate highpower rifle across-the-course shooting and provide adults with an air rifle discipline that builds on the popular junior three-position air rifle program. This NMAR discipline gives highpower competitors off-season shooting opportunities and it gives other shooters additional recreational target shooting opportunities. One of three NMAR equipment classes is for air rifles configured like M16/AR-type rifles.The Creedmoor-Anschütz NMAR rifle is one of these rifles. NMAR targets are scaled down highpower SR and MR targets. Courses of fire are closely related to current highpower courses.

Thirty-five (35) Creedmoor NMAR rifles were available for anyone for use during this competition.

The SE-2 is the first AR-15 pistol grip to be integrated with an ambidextrous sling mount.

The SE-2 is available in two versions. The Hook Mount provides a loop compatible with most common sling hooks; The Swivel Mount allows the attachment of push-button sling swivels.
