ANOKA, Minn. – -(AmmoLand.com)- Federal Premium® Ammunition has announced new shotshells for self defense. These 12 and 20-gauge Personal Defense® brand options underwent extensive testing and provide excellent performance at close range. Available spring 2010.

Not just different packaging

Federal Premium pioneered the handgun self defense category with its Personal Defense offerings. These loads were designed for one thing: self defense. The same can be said about the new shotshell offerings. They’re loaded to ideal velocities and feature optimum patterns and penetration for self defense.

“We went to great lengths to develop these new loads,” said Brand Manager Rick Stoeckel. “We patterned thousands of rounds and exhaustively tested the penetration of these new loads in ballistic gelatin as well as wallboard. We want people to be protected, but we also wanted to make sure these loads wouldn’t over-penetrate in materials such as wallboard.”

The new loads are designed to provide the ultimate in close range protection. Keeping this in mind, Federal engineers worked to find loads that would stop threats immediately and wouldn’t put others in the home in unnecessary danger. They found that #4 buck in 12 and 20-gauge options achieved this performance.

Option featuring FLITECONTROL® Wad

Federal Premium is also offering a load that features the FLITECONTROL wad. This 9-pellet 00 Buck 2-3/4” offering uses the unique rear-braking wad for tight patterns and excellent consistency.
