Arizona CCW Permits On The Decline

Arizona Citizens Defense League

Arizona Citizens Defense League

Catalina, AZ --(Ammoland.com)- After the passage of Constitutional Carry in 2010, CCW permit applications and renewals began to slow down considerably.

In July 2011, the number of active permits reported by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) was less than what they reported in June. Will we now see a steady decline in CCW permits as fewer apply or renew?

Time will tell.

CCW Permit Advantages Even though it is not required in Arizona, there are advantages to having an Arizona CCW permit:

  • Until the rest of the country catches up with Arizona¡¦s respect for the Right to Bear Arms, government permission slips (i.e., permits) are still required to carry a firearm in most other states.
  • The majority of states that do issue permits recognize Arizona¡¦s CCW permit, including neighboring Nevada which only recognizes the permits from 15 states.
  • A CCW permit is required when entering Arizona establishments that serve alcohol and are not posted ¡§no firearms.¡¨ One of AzCDL’s goals is to restore the right of all law-abiding citizens to dine out while armed. Until then, you need a CCW permit.
  • Under Federal Law (the Brady Act) having an Arizona CCW permit satisfies the background check requirement when purchasing a firearm from an FFL dealer.
  • Having a CCW permit also satisfies the Federal ¡§1,000 foot¡¨ rule regarding schools.

No Permit does not equal No responsibility
Exercising freedom comes with a cost – responsibility. Each of us is responsible to know the law, and to have the proper mindset, skills and abilities that come with “bearing arms”. Proper and continuous training has always been our individual responsibility.

One advantage of Constitutional Carry is that you are no longer required to sit through a one-size-fits-all class, mandated by bureaucrats and administered only by government anointed instructors.

Market forces are now in play. Savvy instructors are catering training to the needs of the students who want to learn.

To promote training in the skill at arms, AzCDL is a partner in the “Train Me Arizona” campaign.

We encourage you to become involved also. This is the armed citizenry envisioned by our nation’s founders – aware of our freedoms and exercising them responsibly. Remember, the nation, and the world are watching Arizona. How we, as gun owners and activists, respond to the restoration of our right to bear arms, sets the trend for other states to follow. Wear this responsibility with pride. For more information on the Train Me Arizona campaign, visit: http://www.trainmeaz.com

Know the Law Responsibility includes understanding Arizona gun laws. An excellent FREE resource on the impact of gun laws in Arizona can be found at the DPS website. We have a link to it on AzCDL¡¦s Educational page: http://www.azcdl.org/html/ educational.html

In the “Arizona Specific” section you will find “Legal Issues Regarding the Use of Lethal Force” by Michael Anthony. We also recommend owning a copy of The Arizona Gun Owner’s Guide.”

You can purchase a copy online at http://www.gunlaws.com

About:
AzCDL believes that the emphasis of gun laws should be on criminal misuse and that law-abiding citizens should be able to own and carry firearms unaffected by unnecessary laws or regulations. AzCDL was founded by a group of local activists who recognized that a sustained, coordinated, statewide effort was critical to protecting and expanding the rights of law-abiding gun owners. As a like-minded coalition of activists, the AzCDL founders were instrumental in the successful passage of the first major improvement to Arizona’s CCW (concealed carry) laws since they were instituted in 1994. Washington, DC --(Ammoland.com)- With the passing of Aaron Zelman, not only did American freedom lose a great warrior, but JPFO lost its Founder and Executive Director.

At the proper time, the search began for a new Executive Director.

That person needed to be deeply educated in the gun rights battle, media savvy, politically savvy, and have solid firearms industry contacts.

There was also no doubt whatsoever that our new organizational leader needed to be one hundred percent “hard core no compromise” regarding the Second Amendment and the morality of self defense — just like JPFO.

We have found that person in Charles Heller of Tucson Arizona. Over the past month or so, as JPFO’s Rabbinic Director, I have worked with Charles on all of our JPFO projects.

Charles Heller

Charles Heller New Executive Director of JPFO

Charles and I are of one mind with regard to JPFO’s course and strategies. Charles is a patriot, a true believer in American freedom, and a visionary of America’s great potential. I am proud to be working shoulder to shoulder with him at Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership. We stand together in the fight for your freedom!

Please join me in welcoming our new Executive Director, Charles Heller, and offering your blessings of success in his new role – www.jpfo.org/articles-assd02/heller-intro.htm

As always, thank you for your support. Shalom, Rabbi Dovid Bendory, Rabbinic Director, JPFO

About:
Jews For The Preservation Of Firearms Ownership Mission is to destroy “gun control” and to encourage Americans to understand and defend all of the Bill of Rights for everyone. Those are the twin goals of Wisconsin-based Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO). Founded by Jews and initially aimed at educating the Jewish community about the historical evils that Jews have suffered when they have been disarmed, JPFO has always welcomed persons of all religious beliefs who share a common goal of opposing and reversing victim disarmament policies while advancing liberty for all.

JPFO is a non-profit tax-exempt educational civil rights organization, not a lobby. JPFO’s products and programs reach out to as many segments of the American people as possible, using bold tactics without compromise on fundamental principles. Visit www.JPFO.org – Copyright JPFO 2011
