Oregon City, ORE – -(AmmoLand.com)- Benchmade is proud to support the Clackamas Academy of Industrial Sciences (CAIS), a new charter school in Oregon City.

Sponsored by the Oregon City School District and Clackamas Community College, CAIS allows high school students to prepare for an industrial career by working for local manufacturing companies and earn college credits.

The program is structured with the first two years of classes at Oregon City High School. The junior year allows students to spend time in different industrial settings, and senior year focuses on an internship and CCC courses. The program begins this fall for the 2010-2011 school year.

The CAIS program allows students with engineering and industrial interests to focus and develop the skills they need to join the workforce. CAIS curriculum is still being developed, however the structure of the program will cover on the job skills, as well as other aspects relating to manufacturing and engineering, including math, physics, and science.

“It is important that students realize that manufacturing is a critical aspect in the workforce,” says Rick Murphy, Director of Finance at Benchmade Knife Company. “By joining forces with other local companies, we are proud to encourage the youth in our community.”

Students will become involved in several different aspects of the manufacturing process and learn skills that will help them to grow and become successful in our community. Other local companies that will be participating are Miles Fiberglass in Clackamas and Pioneer Pump in Canby.
