He also became a bear hunt advocate after a confrontation with a black bear near his home and he helped to reinstate New Jersey’s hunt after a 30-year ban.

An attorney licensed in four states, Bach served more than 12 years in law enforcement, archiving the rank of axillary captain in a large municipal police department. He also served as a U.S. congressional staff member and in special programs for a U.S. Court of Appeals judge and the U.S. Attorney’s office.

At NRA, Bach serves on the Executive Committee as vice chair of the Public Affairs Committee and on the Legislative Policy Committee. He is and avid shooter and makes regular media appearances.

Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership

WASHINGTON --(Ammoland.com)- At its spring meeting, the board of directors of the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership elected Katie Distler Eckman, a seasoned conservationist with significant experience in the nonprofit and foundation realms, to chair the TRCP board.

“I am honored to lead the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership during a time that is so critical to conservation in America,” said Distler Eckman.

“The strength of this organization, its deeply committed staff and its dedicated board members position us to make major gains in the name of natural resources conservation and hunting and angling. I am thrilled with this opportunity.

“Through our partnerships in the sportsmen’s community and our many individual members, the TRCP is effecting conservation policy that benefits fish and wildlife and our outdoor traditions,” continued Distler Eckman. “Theodore Roosevelt said, ‘The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena.’ I look forward to sharing the ‘great enthusiasm and devotion’ of which Roosevelt spoke as I work with the TRCP to address the challenges that lie before us.”

A consultant for foundations and nonprofits, Distler Eckman most recently served as executive director of the Turner Foundation, a conservation foundation established by Ted Turner, where she oversaw all aspects of the foundation’s giving and developed strategic funding agendas that enhanced the foundation’s mission. Before joining Turner, Katie worked for the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, directing programmatic and financial management of a $35 million conservation grant portfolio. An avid outdoorswoman with a passion for fly fishing, she lives in Winston-Salem, N.C., with her husband and two young children.

Distler Eckman takes the reins as TRCP board chair from longtime board member Jim Martin, a biologist and the former chief of fisheries for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife who currently is conservation director of the Berkley Conservation Institute.

“In taking on leadership of the TRCP board, Katie Distler Eckman brings an exciting new energy to this organization and our conservation policy work,” said Martin. “Katie’s knowledge of conservation issues and experience with the nonprofit and foundation communities, combined with her love for the outdoors, make her an outstanding guide as we navigate the choppy waters of natural resources policymaking.”

“Distler Eckman’s strategic approach to conservation funding and natural resources conservation is unsurpassed,” said TRCP President and CEO Whit Fosburgh, “and her leadership will enhance TRCP’s ability to build the partnerships and promote the policy decisions that ultimately will assure a future for the outdoor legacy that lies at the heart of our national identity.”

During its meeting, the TRCP board also voted to name TRCP co-founder Dr. Rollin Sparrowe a board member emeritus. Sparrowe, a former U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologist, is a past TRCP board chair and has served the TRCP board since the group’s inception.

Learn more about the TRCP and read the TRCP 2011 Conservation Policy Agenda.

About:
Buck: Like many who don’t know the Club’s history, I assumed it was a stuffy ‘brandy-and-cigar’ group sitting around comparing trophies, telling hunting stories and watch-dogging the scoring of non-member trophies.

Did those perceptions change during your first Club meeting as a guest?
Buck: Yes. I learned the history of the Club and realized that many of the things I take for granted, like national parks, important conservation measures and even the first game laws, were really projects of Club members. I also did not realize just how unique in the world the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation really is.

How about when you attended the 27th Big Game Awards as a Club sponsor?
Buck: That’s where I saw firsthand the work ethic and constant giving of time and money for Club endeavors. At the awards, members really rolled up their sleeves and pitched in.

As a new member, what have you learned about the Club that you didn’t realize before?
Buck: As I’ve met and become more acquainted with Club members, I’ve learned they are everywhere, helping to accomplish great things by serving on the boards of other conservation groups, active on committees, advising political leaders and much more.

Why did you accept the invitation to become a regular member?
Buck: All of my previous community service has been devoted to economic development. I saw an opportunity to participate in something I’m even more passionate about–conservation, legislation, habitat restoration and wildlife management. Placing science over emotion is tough in a political environment but I want to be a part of that.

What do you see as your role in contributing to the mission of the Club?
Buck: As the newly appointed chairman of our associate committee, I realize lots of sportsmen think you need to have a trophy in the records book or deep pockets to belong to Boone and Crockett Club. We’re going to change that. Anyone with a passion for big game and a desire to keep hunting can be an associate of the Club for $35 per year. And I believe the Club needs new associates as we strive to improve our ability to facilitate long-range policies for wildlife and natural resource management.

About the Boone and Crockett Club
Founded by Theodore Roosevelt in 1887, the Boone and Crockett Club promotes guardianship and visionary management of big game and associated wildlife in North America. The Club maintains the highest standards of fair-chase sportsmanship and habitat stewardship. Member accomplishments include enlarging and protecting Yellowstone and establishing Glacier and Denali national parks, founding the U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service and National Wildlife Refuge System, fostering the Pittman-Robertson and Lacey Acts, creating the Federal Duck Stamp program, and developing the cornerstones of modern game laws. The Boone and Crockett Club is headquartered in Missoula, Mont. For details, visit www.boone-crockett.org.
Tags: <a

Mansell to the Arizona Game and Fish Commission.

Mr. Mansell, from Winslow, was one of three candidates submitted to Governor Brewer in November 2010 by the Arizona Game and Fish Commission Appointment Recommendation Board. The governor appointed him to the commission in December to replace Jennifer Martin, whose term expired this year.

Mr. Mansell is a lifelong Arizona resident and outdoorsman, hunter, angler, boater, pilot and community leader. He had a long and distinguished career in public school administration, including service as superintendent of the Winslow Unified School District from 2003-2009.

He has been active in the community, including past service on the Winslow City Council, the Winslow Memorial Hospital Board, and the Winslow Rotary Club. The commission appoints the director of the Arizona Game and Fish Department, and the director serves as secretary to the commission. No more than one commissioner may be from any one county. No more than three may be from the same political party. Each commissioner serves a five-year term, staggered. Steve is currently on the NRA Board.

One of the Board members passed away last year and Steve, being the next highest (but not elected) vote getter, took over that position and we have benefited greatly from his expertise in political affairs and matters of firearm freedom.

Steve devotes several hours each working day to firearm freedom efforts and to the NRA. On weekends he is at major gun shows in the Colorado region manning a firearms freedom Second Amendment NRA supporting booth.

Steve donates huge amounts of his personal time and money as an advocate of protecting our firearm rights at every opportunity! Schreiner tirelessly recruits people to protect our gun rights and he is without doubt the most dedicated member ever to be on the NRA Board. I know this all to be true–first hand!
<div

Schreiner has a solid background in the ways of political operation having been an aide to a U.S. Congressman years ago. He earned a Bronze Star for Valor and also earned the Silver Star in Nam for heroism.

If you were to meet Steve you will find a dedicated, highly-intelligent very active energetic guy with a wily sense of humor who WILL NOT compromise our founding father’s well written Bill of Rights and the Second Amendment. Steve is dedicated! We really do need people like him on the NRA board-seriously, we really do.

If you have room on your NRA Ballot to vote for Steve Schreiner, I urge you to do so he will prove to be incredibly effective on the NRA Board protecting our Second Amendment Rights. .

Thank You For Your Consideration,

Jim Shults

NRA Benefactor

Distinguished Rifleman

Shults <a

When you receive the ballot, either in the mail or in your NRA publication, please cast your vote for me.

As an ardent Second Amendment supporter, I am saddened by the erosion of our US Constitutional Rights over the years. The recent events in Tucson, as well as the Virginia Tech shootings, Colorado church murders, Columbine massacre, and other horrific events, have taught Americans nothing.

For too long, anti-gun advocates have played on the fears and ignorance of a gullible public to erase liberty and self-reliance from our national dialog. While I have sought no personal gain for my efforts, the NRA honored me in 2009 with the “Sybil Ludington Women’s Freedom Award,” the highest honor given to one woman each year for Second Amendment legislation, advocacy, and education.

I serve as the Central Ohio Chair of Buckeye Firearms Association, Ohio’s foremost Second Amendment Rights organization. I have been present and testified in our Statehouse for nearly every hearing and vote over the past several years. I have directly assisted in the passage of legislation establishing Castle Doctrine in Ohio, statewide preemption of local gun bans, and historic reformations of concealed carry laws.

As a proud NRA certified instructor, I have taught well over a thousand students in safe, responsible gun handling and concealed carry. I also serve as Chairman of our county Friends of the NRA, work as an NRA Election Volunteer Coordinator for the Ohio 12th Congressional District, participate in local politics, and support the Ohio Gun Collectors Association.

If you help me get elected to the NRA Board of Directors, I vow that I will fight the encroachment of the BATF on the lawful use of firearms, stop foolish registration schemes, encourage youth and women to participate in hunting and shooting sports, and do everything in my power to prevent the erosion our God-given rights.

I am neither a celebrity nor a wealthy politician. Bob Morrison Named President of the South Florida Council of the Boy Scouts of America
Serving nearly 4.1 million youth between the ages of 7 and 20, with more than 300 councils throughout the United States and its territories, the Boy Scouts of America is the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training. Program participants earn recognition for making a difference in their communities due to their dedication to five of Scouting’s core values: leadership, character, community service, achievement, and the outdoors.
Having served more than 100 million members since its founding, the Boy Scouts of America has made a lasting and positive imprint on the fabric of the nation. Its mission: “Preparing young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law,” enables Scouting to address many issues that are important to young people and families, including health, civility, education, leadership, diversity, and service to others.
“This country needs strong leaders and healthy young people more than ever before, and that is what Scouting is all about,” said Bob Mazzuca, Chief Scout Executive of the Boy Scouts of America.
“This is our time in history to remind the nation that Scouting is more vibrant, more vital, and more relevant than ever before. Every day, millions of Scouts and adult leaders make a huge difference in our society. We look forward to continuing that commitment in the next century.”

class="wp-caption-text">Second Amendment Foundation

BELLEVUE, WA --(Ammoland.com)- I am running, along with four other well-known leaders in the firearms community, for a position on the Washington Arms Collectors Board of Directors.

Those of you who are WAC members will easily recognize the names Kirby Wilbur, Dave Workman, Bill Burris and Rick Verzal.

I encourage WAC members to vote for these gentlemen, and I ask for your support as well. We need to restore responsibility and accountability so that WAC can continue – as all productive grassroots organizations strive – to protect and perpetuate gun rights and the American firearms tradition for generations to come.

I have long believed that grassroots activism is the life’s blood and backbone of the firearms civil rights movement. Therefore, I am practicing what I preach, and I urge you to get involved with your state associations and local grassroots organizations.

Without involvement in state and even local organizations, American gun owners would be disorganized, ineffective and unable to protect the civil rights they hold so dear.

Only by working with other gun owners, standing shoulder-to-shoulder in defense of the Second Amendment and our state constitutional right to keep and bear arms provisions have we been successful, and will continue our successes.

United, there is nothing that the firearms community cannot accomplish, as we have demonstrated so many times. In 1994, we changed the face of Congress and many state legislatures, replacing Beltway anti-gunners with pro-civil rights representatives who put the brakes on the runaway Clinton gun control juggernaut.

Working together, we held Congress for more than a decade, during which we elected a pro-gun President who gave us the Supreme Court majority that, in turn, handed down two monumental Second Amendment rulings.

I am personally proud that the Second Amendment Foundation is responsible for one of those cases, McDonald v. City of Chicago, the case that incorporated the Second Amendment to the states. But that case involved a grassroots organization, the Illinois State Rifle Association, and we were proud to have them onboard.

Likewise, in our current lawsuit against an onerous emergency powers statute in North Carolina, we are working with Grassroots North Carolina. In our lawsuit in New Jersey, we are partnered with the Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs. In Maryland and New York we have gotten key support from grassroots groups: Maryland Shall Issue, and New York’s Shooters Committee On Political Education and Long Island Firearms.

In our lawsuit to prevent the City of Seattle from enforcing an illegal gun ban in city parks, one of the groups that joined the action was the Washington Arms Collectors. This 14,000-member association of firearms enthusiasts, competition shooters, hunters, historical re-enactors and recreational shooters epitomizes the diversity found within the broad firearms community, and I am proud to be a life member.

Whether at the national, state or local level, devoted firearms advocates and gun rights activists recognize that our greatest challenge is the unrelenting campaign to destroy our Second Amendment rights. But there is another enemy, just as insidious, that can destroy our movement from within, through rancor and disharmony.

When people substitute divisiveness and demagoguery for healthy debate, when they replace collegial cooperation with confrontation and character assassination, when their actions and behavior threaten to derail the positive forward momentum we all strive for, and when they allow personal grievances to overshadow common sense, those who understand the difference between personal agendas and public good must take corrective measures.

We have all seen, at one time or another, productive and energetic organizations become mired in personal politics. It is never pleasant when it happens, but allowing such self-destructive activity to continue would have an even more unpleasant result.

I have never been one to tell people to practice what I preach, while being unwilling to roll up my sleeves and step up to the plate, myself.

And right now seems the perfect time to prove that. The Washington Arms Collectors is suffering from a “war within.” The Board of Directors is in conflict, and in danger of running aground at a time when such organizations will be critically important, not just to local gun rights issues, but nationally.

As a life member of that organization, I cannot stand by while others give their time and energy to stop what amounts to an out-of-control cabal.

Sincerely yours,
TWF Chairman Dan Hammond

Joining the TWF board of directors is Phillip Crowe, a nationally celebrated wildlife artist who has been a supporter of TWF’s initiatives for decades. Crowe’s work – which has raised millions of dollars for wildlife and habitat – has been featured on numerous state waterfowl stamps, on limited-edition prints for organizations such as Ducks Unlimited and the National Wild Turkey Federation, and on two of the Tennessee Wildlife Federation’s state license plate designs.

Former University of Tennessee Head Football Coach Phillip Fulmer, who currently serves as a volunteer spokesman for TWF, has joined the organization’s advisory board. Fulmer will be a statewide ambassador for the Federation, helping to promote TWF’s mission by building awareness among key constituencies.

Founded in 1946, the Tennessee Wildlife Federation’s mission is to champion the conservation, sound management and enjoyment of Tennessee’s wildlife and natural resources for current and future generations through stewardship, advocacy and education. TWF’s programs include Great Outdoors University, which coordinates outdoor experiences for more than 1,500 underserved youth in Memphis and Nashville each year; the Tennessee Scholastic Clay Target Program, with 95 teams and 2,200 student-athletes across Tennessee; and Hunters for the Hungry, which provides more than 400,000 meals to Tennesseans in need annually.

Over the years, TWF has helped establish the wildlife management model in Tennessee and the agency that implements it, and the organization has been instrumental in the restoration of wildlife species like the bald eagle, Eastern wild turkey, elk and white-tailed deer in this state. In 2010, TWF led the effort to amend the state constitution to include a personal right to hunt and fish, which passed by an historic 90 percent margin of the votes cast in the gubernatorial election.

“All three of these men have contributed significant time, effort and resources to wildlife through their work with the Federation,” says Mike Butler, TWF’s chief executive officer. “Their continued support will facilitate our growth and multiply our impact, and we’re lucky to have them on our team.”

About:
Buckeye Firearms Foundation

Ohio - -(AmmoLand.com)- I’m Linda Walker, Central Ohio Chair of Buckeye Firearms Association, and I’m running for the board of directors of the National Rifle Association.

I have been part of Buckeye Firearm’s leadership team nearly from the beginning of the organization. I have spent a lot of time in the Statehouse fighting for our Second Amendment Rights through both hearings and meetings. I generally attend every hearing for firearms legislation, which has amounted to hundreds of hours in Ohio’s Statehouse.

Part of being on “the team” has entailed attending one-on-one meetings with various State Representatives, Senators and candidates; working on legislation with my fellow leadership team; attended bill signings and Governor’s receptions; attending political events such as legislative receptions, inaugural receptions, political dinners, and fundraisers; assisting on candidate campaigns; organizing BFA events; staffing events, such as gun shows, expos, clay shoots, etc.; shipping, PR., media interviews, writing articles and a wealth of other activities.

I’ve done a lot of media, including NRA News, print, radio, TV, blogs, articles and more. I have spoken at several Tea Parties with up to 10,000 attendees and made various other speeches.

Because of my work with Buckeye Firearms, that led to my involvement with the NRA in various capacities. I became an NRA certified instructor over four years ago in multiple disciplines, and have actively instructed nearly a thousand students in Ohio concealed carry. I am the NRA-EVC (election volunteer coordinator) for the 12th Congressional District and an NRA recruiter. I am also the chairman of the Licking County Friends of the NRA, nearly tripling our attendance in the second year.
I spent nearly a decade as a Den Leader, Cubmaster and troop committee member with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, which I attribute to the beginning of my activism.

I have instructed for the Ohio high school FFA teachers, in teaching them how to run a safe range at FFA summer camps, instructed for Women in the Outdoors events, Dillon Sportsmen’s Club ladies nights, Ohio Writers Conference, and assisted Pickaway Sportsmen’s Club and Big Darby Creek shooting ranges in introducing more women to the sport of IDPA.

The National Rifle Association honored me by awarding me the NRA’s 2009 “Sybil Ludington Women’s Freedom Award.” This is given to one woman on the national level for legislation, advocacy and education. They began this award in 1995, and awarded one each year except for 2008 and 2010.

If elected to the NRA board of directors, my main goal is to get more women involved in the Second Amendment, firearm sports, as certified instructors and also legislation. There is a great need to be filled. The ratio of women who sit on the NRA BOD currently is about 10%.

This is where I need your help!
I need to collect 250 VALID signatures on petitions from voting members of the NRA. From past experience, this is no easy feat. To constitute a voting member, you must be a member of the NRA for five consecutive years without a break or interruption, or a fully-paid Life member or higher.

Click below for the petition. According to NRA rules, it MUST be printed on LEGAL sized paper. The NRA will not accept them on standard sized paper. Also attached is my biography. I will be happy to mail out a petition on legal size paper for those not having legal paper. Just send me an email at LWalker@BuckeyeFirearms.org with your mailing address, and I will drop it in the mail.

If you still have your July edition of an NRA magazine, you will find a nomination form. Any member can fill out and mail in the nomination form. If you could also do me the favor of mailing that in directly to the NRA, I would appreciate it. The following is the information you will need:

Linda Walker
NRA member # 146005210 Age: 50
5779 Lobdell Rd
Alexandria, OH 43001

I thank everyone in advance for any help that you may lend me in signing or circulating petitions and for the moral support. If elected, I promise to work hard for your Second Amendment rights!

Thank you,<br

That authority is delegated to your elected Board of Directors who in turn elects officers and formulate policy that is then issued to the Executive Vice President/CEO who then turns that policy into action through the professional staff.

Gag orders for the Board of Directors do not exist.

Friends; those of you close to me should know by now that telling me I can’t speak up on an issue of vital importance to the 2nd Amendment is going to get you into a war.

I spoke vociferously regarding the nomination of Sonya Sotomayor to the Supreme Court; in fact I joined a number of national 2nd Amendment leaders protesting the appointment and urging through a nationally published letter she not be confirmed.

I did that because of her ties to New York State and the position she took, on then recent, anti 2nd Amendment decisions. I have not taken a position on Elena Kagen’s nomination to the Supreme Court because I find it absurd that anyone with no judicial experience would be nominated to the Supreme Court and fervently hope the Republican Senators will block this nomination.

The 2nd Amendment protects all the rest. Why would the NRA, the protector of the 2nd Amendment, attempt to limit the 1st Amendment rights of its’ own Board of Directors?

It does not but if you think the Board members you voted for could be gagged then you voted for the wrong guys.

Tom King

NRA Board of Directors

President

NYS Rifle & Pistol Association

Μολὼν λαβέ
Tags: Buzz Mills For Arizona Governor

Arizona - -(Ammoland.com)- The National Rifle Association of America has recently elected Republican candidate for governor Buz Mills to its Executive Committee.

Mills is a lifetime member of the NRA since the 1960’s and has been a member of the NRA’s 76-member Board of Directors since 2009. The Executive Committee is made up of 21 members from the Board of Directors and is responsible for the NRA’s emergent issues arising between the regular sessions of the Board which meets just three times per year.

Despite his board membership and lifetime of service, Mills will not receive the NRA’s endorsement in the Republican Primary for governor. Incumbents who meet the NRA’s criteria on Second Amendment issues are endorsed regardless of who else is in the race and without regard for their positions on other non-Second Amendment issues such as taxes and spending. For example, the NRA has endorsed democrats such as Howard Dean.

As a member of NRA’s Board of Directors, Mr. Mills stands in full support of NRA’s “incumbent-friendly” endorsement policies.

“I understand the NRA system,” said Mr. Mills. “And I fully support that system because I know that not only is it the right thing to do, but because I also know that when I become your governor, I will become NRA’s endorsed candidate for re-election based upon my dedication to Second Amendment principles and my understanding of what it takes to defend American freedoms.”

Since 2009, Mills has also served on the Board of Trustees of the NRA Foundation. This Board raises funds for firearms safety education benefiting youths. The Eddie Eagle project is perhaps the best known program funded by the Foundation. The Foundation also sponsors shooter and range development across the country as well as overseeing numerous shooting competitions, many which are right here in Arizona.

Buz Mills for Governor
FirearmsCoalition.org

Manassas, VA --(Ammoland.com)- The 139th NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits was held last weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina and it was a record-setter with over 70,000 in attendance, including three representatives of The Firearms Coalition, my brother Chris, sister Shan, and myself.

Due to scheduling conflicts and airline delays the three of us converged on Charlotte at about 4:30 Friday afternoon, just in time to get cleaned up for the Grass Roots North Carolina “Gala for Gun Rights and Second Amendment Symposium.” The event was held at the Marriott, Charlotte City Center and I was one of the speakers along with Joe Tartaro of GunWeek and the Second Amendment Foundation; John Lott, author of More Guns, Less Crime; US Senator Richard Burr; and Alan Gura, lead attorney in both the Heller and McDonald cases. GRNC was kind enough to allow Chris to set up a table in the back of the room where sales of his book, Neal Knox – The Gun Rights War, were brisk. Chris donated a portion of the proceeds to GRNC.

The event was a rousing success and an inspiration to all those lucky enough to attend, but we later found out that there was a problem. While we were celebrating progress in the battle to restore and protect the right to arms and discussing strategies for furthering that right, the hotel management was downstairs trampling on those rights and making criminals of many of the people in attendance as well as potentially hundreds of other hotel guests. The way they were doing this was by simply taping a piece of paper to the front door declaring that guns were not allowed on the premises. Under North Carolina law, carrying a firearm on a property which has been posted as “gun free” is a Class 2 misdemeanor.

The manager of the hotel ducked and dodged and dissembled when challenged about the sneak attack, but the bottom line remains that while the Marriott was welcoming our patronage – and our money – they were simultaneously thumbing their nose at us and placing us at risk from both criminals and authorities. Several of the “Gun Rights Examiners,” a collection of on-line journalists at www.Examiner.com, have joined Charlotte Gun Rights Examiner and President of Grass Roots North Carolina, Paul Valone, in calls for boycotts of Marriott hotels and a phone, mail, and email campaign to educate the chain’s management about their insulting and unreasonable actions.

Beyond that little bit of excitement, which is still playing out, the convention was pretty typical. In recent years the NRA has done more and more to involve politicians and celebrities while member participation in the actual business of their association has been reduced to little more than rubber-stamping staff and Board decisions and desires. All of the hard-won reforms enacted during the members’ revolt at Cincinnati in 1977 have been slowly done away with to the point that members barely have any voice in the organization at all any more. During this year’s members’ meeting the reports of officers ran long and the call for adjournment came early so if there were members wishing to ask questions, express concerns, or offer resolutions, they had no opportunity to do so.

Members do still vote for Board of Director candidates, but with so many candidates, so many eligible voters, and so little information about the candidates – with the staff and PR company controlling the publications containing the ballots – it has been clearly demonstrated that the current leadership can dictate their desires and there are enough “good sheep” to provide the votes needed to keep their “winning team” in total control.

The few votes needed to ensure that control should be a serious source of shame to every member. This year the association sent ballots to 1,574,096 members eligible to vote, but only 109,381 ballots were returned and only 105,040 were judged to be valid. That’s a valid return rate of less than 7% – from the oldest, most powerful civil rights organization in the country! NRA prides itself on its ability to turn out voters and shift the outcome of elections and yet they get less than 7% participation in Board of Director elections!?!

That is beyond appalling; it is downright scary.

The results of this year’s election turned out much as I’d expected, but there were a few surprises. As I had predicted, the celebrities and politicians mostly skated to easy victories and as I had hoped, the few incumbents I endorsed all won with comfortable margins. Several of the new candidates I had endorsed also made the cut and a couple I had thought shouldn’t have run and couldn’t win, Joaquin Jackson and Larry Craig did manage to retain their seats. Donn DiBiasio, the incumbent I most ardently opposed, did not make the cut, but he slipped back onto the Board for one more year by getting himself elected to the 76th Director position during the convention. That means he’ll probably take another shot at it next year. Rest assured I’ll have more candidate information and my picks posted early at www.GunVoter.org.

About:
Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership

WASHINGTON –-(Ammoland.com)- The Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership announced today that Ron Regan and George Cooper have joined the board of directors of the national sportsmen-conservation group. The new directors were elected at the TRCP spring board meeting, which took place in Nashville, Tenn., earlier this month.

“The Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership will benefit enormously from the skills, knowledge and expertise that Ron Regan and George Cooper bring to conservation policy issues of concern to American sportsmen,” said Jim Martin, chairman of the TRCP board of directors.

“Furthermore, both are dedicated hunters and anglers, and their enthusiasm for the outdoors will translate admirably to the boardroom in service of the TRCP.

“Ron Regan’s breadth of experience in fish and wildlife management – as evidenced by his current role as leader of the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies – will enable the TRCP to take great strides in matters of importance to sportsmen on both state and federal levels,” Martin continued. “And George Cooper, through his past leadership of the TRCP and communications acumen, will be an asset as we ensure that hunters and anglers continue to take an influential role in determining the way America administers our shared natural resources and outdoor heritage.”

Ron Regan is the executive director of the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies. Since joining the association in April 2007, Regan has staffed numerous sporting and natural resource committees and represented state fish and wildlife agencies to promote reauthorization of the Sportfish Restoration and Boating Trust Fund and secure passage of the National Fish Habitat Action Plan. Previously, Regan worked for more than 25 years in wildlife management and conservation in the state of Vermont. In 1999, he was appointed commissioner of the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department, a position he held for four years. He also served as the VFWD director of operations and director of wildlife.

George Cooper is a senior vice president at Cauthen, Forbes & Williams, where he directs CFW’s strategic communications practice and works closely with the firm’s clients to develop and implement effective public relations and media strategies. Cooper also leads CFW’s natural resources government affairs work. Prior to joining CFW, Cooper served as president/CEO of the TRCP. Throughout his seven years at TRCP, both as president/CEO and vice president for policy and communications, Cooper helped create a new strategic advocacy niche for the nation’s 40-million hunters and anglers with an emphasis on communications around issues including Western public lands management, public land and offshore energy development, agriculture policy, wetlands conservation and marine resources management. Cooper also worked for CNN for 10 years, serving as senior producer for public affairs shows such as “Evans and Novak,” “Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer” and “Reliable Sources.”

The TRCP recently announced that conservation policy leader Whit Fosburgh has been named the group’s new president/CEO. Fosburgh will assume his responsibilities with the TRCP in mid-June.

Inspired by the legacy of Theodore Roosevelt, the TRCP is a coalition of organizations and grassroots partners working together to preserve the traditions of hunting and fishing.
Tags: <a
