MIAMI --(Ammoland.com)- Bob Morrison, the President and CEO of Taurus International Mfg., Inc., has been announced as the new President of the South Florida Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
The South Florida Council encompasses Monroe, Miami-Dade and Broward counties of Florida and serves approximately 40,000 youth.
“I feel honored to accept this position and will continue the traditions of this outstanding council,” said Bob Morrison.
“Regarded for its diverse population; the South Florida Council has recognized its responsibilities and led the way to establish a true multi-national organization that leads the youth of our community in developing, recognizing and achieving the possibilities that the Boy Scouts of America offer.”
The Boy Scouts of America was officially incorporated on February 8, 1910 and remains a vital organization with a mission and purpose that is even more relevant today than ever before. For more than 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America has created a strong foundation of leadership, service, and community for millions of America’s youth.
Bob Morrison Named President of the South Florida Council of the Boy Scouts of America
Serving nearly 4.1 million youth between the ages of 7 and 20, with more than 300 councils throughout the United States and its territories, the Boy Scouts of America is the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training. Program participants earn recognition for making a difference in their communities due to their dedication to five of Scouting’s core values: leadership, character, community service, achievement, and the outdoors.
Having served more than 100 million members since its founding, the Boy Scouts of America has made a lasting and positive imprint on the fabric of the nation. Its mission: “Preparing young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law,” enables Scouting to address many issues that are important to young people and families, including health, civility, education, leadership, diversity, and service to others.
“This country needs strong leaders and healthy young people more than ever before, and that is what Scouting is all about,” said Bob Mazzuca, Chief Scout Executive of the Boy Scouts of America.
“This is our time in history to remind the nation that Scouting is more vibrant, more vital, and more relevant than ever before. Every day, millions of Scouts and adult leaders make a huge difference in our society. We look forward to continuing that commitment in the next century.”

class="wp-caption-text">Thompson Center Arms

ROCHESTER, NH --(AmmoLand.com)- Thompson/Center Arms Company, Inc., a Smith & Wesson company, announced that it has reached an agreement with the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) to become an officially licensed firearms manufacturer of the century old youth organization.

Thompson/Center Arms will work with the BSA to introduce three specially designed firearms. Through this licensed relationship, current Scouts, alumni and shooting enthusiasts will be able to obtain BSA officially licensed models of the HotShot rifle, IMPACT muzzleloader and the 100th Anniversary G2 Contender muzzleloader.

“Thompson/Center is committed to the development and training of youth shooters through education on the safe handling of firearms, as well as by designing innovative products to assist with their learning,” said Tom Kelly, Vice President of Marketing for Thompson/Center Arms.

“We are thrilled to support the Boy Scouts of America’s youth shooting programs. The Boy Scouts’ commitment to excellence in shooter education has led to a lifetime of safe shooting that has enhanced the future of the sport for over 100 years. Together, we will continue to foster our resources to encourage and retain young people in the shooting sports disciplines.”

Among the firearms to be introduced are the new BSA licensed Thompson/Center HotShot youth rifle, a BSA licensed IMPACT muzzleloader and a BSA licensed 100th Anniversary G2 Contender muzzleloader. Chambered in .22LR, the HotShot is a highly accurate, lightweight single-shot rifle. Designed to look just like dad’s T/C Encore Pro Hunter, the HotShot features an easy to operate break-open design, accessible via the trigger guard release. With a weight of only 3 pounds, the HotShot provides youth and first time shooters with a perfect introductory platform that allows for safe, simple and quick operation.

Likewise, the T/C IMPACT muzzleloader was engineered with youth and small frame shooters in mind. With the muzzleloader’s adjustable length of pull, lightweight composite stock, removable breech plug and other patented features, the IMPACT helps to simplify black powder shooting both on the range and in the field. In addition to the BSA HotShot and IMPACT, Thompson/Center will also produce a limited edition G2 Contender commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America. The .50 caliber G2 Contender muzzleloader will feature a special BSA insignia on the side of the stock. The G2 Contender frame allows users to quickly and easily change barrel configurations, offering both centerfire and rimfire capabilities.

“The Boy Scouts of America is pleased to recognize Thompson/Center Arms as an official licensee,” said Greg Winters, Manager, Licensed Programs.

“We are looking forward to working with Thompson/Center Arms in creating licensed products that young people in the program can learn on and enjoy.”

This summer, the 2010 National Scout Jamboree will be taking place celebrating 100 years of the Boy Scout organization. Over 300,000 people from across the globe, including over 40,000 Scouts and volunteer and professional staff are scheduled to convene at Fort A.P. Hill in Caroline County, Virginia. The 10-day event, which runs from July 26 through August 4, will temporarily transform Caroline County into the third largest county in the state, complete with its own zip code. The Jamboree program reflects the skills of scouting—physical fitness, environmental conservation, our national heritage and the true spirit of scouting. In addition to shooting sports at the jamboree, Scouts will enjoy more than 100 different activities such as shooting, fishing, rappelling, kayaking, rafting and sailing while at the jamboree.

For more information regarding Thompson/Center Arms or to view the complete line of Thompson/Center Arms firearms and accessories, visit www.tcarms.com. class="wp-caption-text">Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation

MISSOULA, Mont.—-(AmmoLand.com)- As the Boy Scouts of America celebrates 100 years of adventure, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is saluting the youth organization’s historic work in habitat conservation and more recent partnership for elk country.

The Scouting movement was founded Feb. 8, 1910, a date still commemorated as part of Scout Week nationwide. A centennial black-tie gala is slated Feb. 9 in Washington D.C.

“Boy Scouts began as a way to develop character, responsibility, citizenship and personal fitness, and since the very beginning Scout leaders understood that all of those qualities can be cultivated through outdoor activities—including wildlife habitat projects,” said David Allen, RMEF president and CEO. “The cumulative impact of Scouting on conservation in America is immeasurable, and we both congratulate and sincerely thank the millions of young people who’ve been a part of it.”

In 1992, RMEF began a partnership with Boy Scouts when a local troop requested funds to repair a wildlife drinking station in New Mexico. Since then, the partnership has grown to 17 states and over $162,000 in RMEF expenditures for Scout projects, events and activities.

Boy Scouts have used RMEF funding to re-vegetate winter range, restore aspen stands, treat weed infestations, repair and remove fencing, install educational kiosks, and more.

RMEF also has sponsored Boy Scouts attending everything from day camps to weeklong high adventure bases. In fact, between 2004 and 2009, more than 5,500 Scouts and 225 volunteers trekked across RMEF’s Torstenson Wildlife Center in New Mexico.

The Boy Scouts of America currently boasts 2.8 million young people between the ages of 7 and 20 plus 1.1 million volunteers in more than 290 local councils throughout the U.S. and its territories. The event raised more than $255,000 to benefit outreach programs for underprivileged youth in South Florida and the Boy Scouts’ Camp Seminole in Davie, Florida.

More than 200 guests and 44 teams participated in the event’s sporting clays tournament at Florida’s premiere Sporting Clays facility, Quail Creek Plantation. Event sponsors and guests, such as Taurus International Manufacturing, the National Rifle Association and the National Shooting Sports Foundation, enjoyed a special barbecue and reception on the first evening, followed by a competition the next day. The event concluded with a silent and live auction.

“The programs of the Boy Scouts of America are essential to shaping the lives of young people in a positive way, something that is very important to the future of this great nation,” said Bob Morrison, President and CEO of Taurus International Manufacturing and the Sporting Clays Invitational Chairman. “It has been an honor to help get this event started and use our contacts and resources to raise the needed dollars to keep Scouting strong and growing for the South Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America.”

The Sporting Clays Invitational proceeds will benefit more than 3,000 youth in rural and inner-city areas who would otherwise not have access to Scouting programs. The outreach programs will contribute to the healthy development of these young people by providing them the environment they need to grow and learn, as well as teaching them essential life skills, leadership skills, values and character education. In addition, it will provide them more opportunities to participate in outdoor experiences, such as camping, survival courses and shooting sports.

South Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America is a non-profit organization serving more than 72,000 youth and families in Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. Celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2010, the Boy Scouts of America is the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and value-based leadership training. class="wp-caption-text">Montana High Adventure Base

MISSOULA, Mont.— -(AmmoLand.com)- Boy Scouts across the U.S. have a new destination for trekking, mountain climbing, shooting, wildlife watching and other adventures—the Boone and Crockett Club’s Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Ranch near Choteau, Mont.

The Club is partnering with the Montana Council of Boy Scouts of America (BSA) to create a “Montana High Adventure Base” at the Club’s 6,040-acre ranch. The property adjoins the rugged Bob Marshall Wilderness Area. The camp will meet national certification requirements of the BSA for high adventure camps and Scout-trained leaders will direct the program. More than 140 Scouts could visit this summer. Participation could expand in coming years.

In one-week programs, Scouts will learn about backcountry safety and preparation, orientation, conservation and wildlife. They’ll also have opportunities to experience supervised backpacking, fishing and more. Wilderness treks lasting 4-5 days are possible.

“There aren’t too many Boy Scout councils in the country with an organized high adventure program, especially at a place where you can hike right off a private ranch and into one of the premier wilderness areas in the country. It’s a beautiful, special, interesting place. We anticipate that Scouts from all over the country will want to come here,” said Gordon Rubard of the Montana BSA, based in Great Falls, Mont.

Adventures will be based at the ranch’s Rasmuson Wildlife Conservation Center, which contains an engaging classroom, great room/dining hall and sleeping quarters. Rifle and shotgun shooting facilities also are on the ranch.

Participating Scouts will receive a one-year associate membership in the Boone and Crockett Club and a subscription to “Fair Chase” magazine.

Club Director of Conservation Education Lisa Flowers said, “The Boone and Crockett Club is honored to help Boy Scouts develop a greater appreciation of wild places, an understanding of wildlife conservation in the 21st Century, the importance of the hunting tradition and past and present actions of hunter conservationists, and the vision of the Club as established by our founders and first president, Theodore Roosevelt.”

Learn more at www.montanahighadventurebase.com or www.montanabsa.org.

About the Boone and Crockett Club<br
