title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today called on newly-sworn-in San Francisco County Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi to step down as a result of domestic violence charges now filed against him.

Mirkarimi, who was a staunch anti-gun rights advocate while serving on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, also has a major problem with hypocrisy, said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. The San Francisco Examiner reported that the anti-gun Mirkarimi owns three handguns, which he had to surrender because of the domestic violence charges.

“Mirkarimi’s case presents a massive irony,” Gottlieb observed. “Here’s a man who has supported restrictive gun control measures while on the Board of Supervisors, and yet he had three handguns. He just was elected sheriff, and now he’s accused of a crime that, if he is convicted, could cost him his gun rights for the rest of his life under federal law.

“Perhaps Mirkarimi’s biggest problem is that he is now exposed as a double-standard elitist,” he continued. “News reports about this case over the past few days suggest that he may also have an anger-management problem.”

Gottlieb said the case also brings focus on a domestic violence law that seems to treat people as though they are guilty until proven innocent. What other law allows the state to deprive someone of constitutional rights – in this case, the right to keep and bear arms – before they are convicted of a crime?

“Hardly would we advocate allowing someone who has abused a spouse or domestic partner to be armed,” Gottlieb stated, “but our justice system isn’t supposed to penalize someone until after they’ve been found guilty.

“Someone who has been legally disarmed over a criminal charge,” he concluded, “should not be permitted to serve as a chief law enforcement officer. Someone like Mirkarimi, who has done whatever he could to discourage others from owning firearms, should admit his world-class hypocrisy and walk away from the public arena.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- This week’s revelation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that homicide is no longer among the leading causes of death in the United States – at a time when gun ownership is at an all-time high – shows that the gun ban lobby has been wrong, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

“The CDC’s report for 2010 that removes homicide from the top 15 leading causes of death in this country coincides with a period of record high gun ownership,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “At the same time, increasing numbers of citizens have obtained concealed carry permits and licenses. This is pretty strong evidence that rising gun ownership does not translate to more violence and murder.”

Gottlieb, co-author of the newly-released <a

And now there are questions about whether the mayor has an Alabama carry permit.

“Here is a municipal mayor who has a bodyguard, and believes it is okay for him to carry a gun, but he belongs to an organization that consistently works to keep everyone else from carrying,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “If the mayor is legally licensed, why does he belong to a group that has fought to prevent law-abiding citizens from exercising their self-defense right?

“If Mayor Jones doesn’t have a permit,” he continued, “then he is a poster child for the double standards that elites like Mayor Michael Bloomberg believe separates them from the citizens they serve. Either way, Mayor Jones owes it to his constituents to show them his carry permit, and to oppose any further attempts by Mayors Against Illegal Guns to prevent private citizens from exercising their constitutionally-protected right to keep and bear arms.

“It is no surprise that average American citizens are fed up with government officials at all levels,” Gottlieb observed. “We’re glad that Mayor Jones had the means and the willingness to protect his property, but we are stunned and disappointed that he belongs to an organization whose very essence is to make it virtually impossible for average citizens to do likewise.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today offered thanks and congratulations to 11 members of Congress who have signed on as co-sponsors to legislation that would withhold funding from the United Nations and prevent the United States from adopting any treaty that threatens national sovereignty or abridges the Second Amendment firearms rights of American citizens.

“The Second Amendment secures and protects our individual right to keep and bear arms,” noted CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “Illinois Congressman Joe Walsh submitted his bill on Wednesday, and now he’s been joined by 11 of his colleagues who deserve recognition.”

Co-sponsors to HR 3594 are Texas Congressmen Joe Barton, K. Michael Conaway and Kenny Marchant; Georgia Reps. Lynn A. Westmoreland, Paul C. Broun and Phil Gingrey; North Carolina Rep. Howard Coble, Florida’s Bill Posey, Iowan Steve King, South Carlina’s Jeff Duncan and Kansas Rep. Tim Huelskamp. All are Republicans.

“CCRKBA staff has been directly involved in Walsh’s effort,” Gottlieb noted, “because the long-running campaign to adopt a global gun control scheme at the United Nations has gathered momentum under the Obama administration. We do not think it is any coincidence that global gun prohibitionists have ramped up their effort during the same period that the U.S. Supreme Court has issued two rulings affirming that the Second Amendment affirms an individual right to keep and bear arms.

“At a time when our constitutional freedoms are at stake,” Gottlieb concluded, “the only way to prevent their erosion by international treaty is to put in place the legislative mechanism to cut the U.N. off financially. We’re delighted that Walsh and nearly a dozen of his colleagues have the vision and intestinal fortitude to pursue that preventative measure. International gun grabbers need to keep their hands off of our Constitution, and out of our pockets.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today applauded Illinois Congressman Joe Walsh’s introduction of legislation to withhold funding from the United Nations and assuring that the United States does not adopt any treaty posing a threat to national sovereignty or that abridges the firearms rights of American citizens as guaranteed by the Second Amendment.

Rep. Walsh’s bill, developed with the cooperation and assistance of CCRKBA staff, would block U.N. funding unless the President certifies that the world body “has not taken any action to restrict, attempt to restrict, or otherwise adversely infringe upon the rights of individuals…to keep and bear arms, or abridge any of the other constitutionally protected rights” of U.S. citizens.

“The United Nations’ effort to adopt a global gun control initiative needs to be reined in,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan M. Gottlieb. “For too many years, bureaucrats in the United Nations have become far too cozy with international gun prohibition organizations, and Congressman Walsh’s legislation seems the best way to get their attention. We’ve been delighted and honored to be part of this effort.

“It is an insult to United States sovereignty,” he added, “that the U.N. would be entertaining such measures while enjoying this country’s hospitality at its headquarters in New York City. It is the greatest irony, and perhaps the pinnacle of hypocrisy, for the United Nations to be discussing any treaty that might threaten our Second Amendment, because it has been the United States, with its citizen soldiers and our constitutional right to keep and bear arms that has come to the world’s rescue not once, but twice in global conflicts.

“When diplomacy fails, it is time to close our checkbook,” Gottlieb said. “The Bush administration opposed such a treaty, but the Obama administration is moving forward with discussions on an international Arms Trade Treaty. It is up to Congress to put the brakes on such efforts and protect our national sovereignty, which has been protected and defended for more than two centuries because our citizens have the right, and the resources, to defend it.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Grassroots power has helped derail President Obama’s nomination of anti-gun extremist Caitlin Halligan to the District of Columbia Circuit Court, with keystone opposition from members and supporters of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

“We sent out more than one million e-mail alerts to gun owners across the country, warning them of Halligan’s anti-gun philosophy,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “and it is clear from today’s 54-45 Senate vote against cloture, thus rejecting Halligan’s nomination, that their voices were heard loud and clear.”

The CCRKBA mailing identified Halligan as a “liberal agitator and a fervent gun hater” who “pushed to bankrupt gun manufacturers in New York with frivolous lawsuits.”

“After the disastrous appointments of Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court,” Gottlieb said, “we could not stand silently while Obama put forth his most radical anti-gun nominee for a lifetime appointment to one of the most influential federal courts in the nation.

“Tuesday’s vote,” he continued, “is proof that gun owners are wise to Obama’s anti-gun strategy. He may not be able to pass legislation, but his legacy could be a federal court system stacked with gun-grabbing judges who will do whatever it takes to erase the landmark Second Amendment victories before the Supreme Court in the Heller and McDonald cases.

“We are delighted and proud that our members and supporters told the Senate that this is where it ends,” Gottlieb said. “We are not going to allow President Obama the chance to saddle our country and our Constitution with people like Halligan, who are clearly hostile to the Second Amendment.

“There is no place in the federal judiciary for anyone who so vigorously opposes one of our most cherished civil rights,” he concluded. “We’re gratified that a majority in the Senate understands this.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- While some people are struggling to explain a gun buying surge reported on “Black Friday,” the day after Thanksgiving, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms suggests there are several plausible explanations, all reflecting the times in which we live.

“Despite claims to the contrary,” observed CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “for many American citizens, the economy remains unstable, and the outlook for tomorrow is very uncertain. We’ve seen public safety budgets hacked to shreds by state and local governments that have spent themselves into near bankruptcy. Our streets, parks and state capitol buildings have been occupied by anarchists. Europe appears on the verge of financial collapse. Congress is unable to resolve our budget crisis.”

“And on top of that,” he added, “we’ve got a spectator president who always seems to be waiting for someone else to take action, perhaps because he wants someone else to blame for another plan that doesn’t work. Why is it any surprise that American citizens, including many for the first time, are buying firearms and ammunition?”

USA Today reported that the FBI’s National Instant Check center logged more than 129,000 background check requests last Friday, a new record surpassing the 97,848 checks conducted on Black Friday in 2008. The National Shooting Sports Foundation credits much of the buying to the realization by increasing numbers of citizens that they have a constitutional right to own guns. Also, more women are getting involved in shooting sports, including hunting, and more are carrying firearms for personal protection.

“Americans hope for the best,” Gottlieb said, “but they prepare for the worst. Some call that ‘panic’ but in reality, it is prudence. While there are some small signs of improvement, there remains a vast landscape of uncertainty. Sensible people have evidently concluded that it is better to have a gun and not need it, than to need a gun and not have it.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. class="wp-caption-text">National Rifle Association

FAIRFAX, Va. --(Ammoland.com)- The U.S. House of Representatives has passed an important self-defense measure that would enable millions of Right-to-Carry permit holders across the country to carry concealed firearms while traveling outside their home states.

H.R. 822, the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act, passed by a majority bipartisan vote of 272 to 154.

All amendments aimed to weaken or damage the integrity of this bill were defeated.

“NRA has made the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act a priority because it enhances the fundamental right to self-defense guaranteed to all law-abiding people,” said Chris W. Cox, executive director of NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action. “People are not immune from crime when they cross state lines. That is why it is vital for them to be able to defend themselves and their loved ones should the need arise.”

H.R. 822, introduced in the U.S. House by Representatives Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) and Heath Shuler (D-N.C.), allows any person with a valid state-issued concealed firearm permit to carry a concealed firearm in any state that issues concealed firearm permits, or that does not prohibit the carrying of concealed firearms for lawful purposes.

This bill does not affect existing state laws. State laws governing where concealed firearms may be carried would apply within each state’s borders. H.R. 822 does not create a federal licensing system or impose federal standards on state permits; rather, it requires the states to recognize each others’ carry permits, just as they recognize drivers’ licenses and carry permits held by armored car guards.

As of today, 49 states have laws in place that permit their citizens to carry a concealed firearm in some form. Only Illinois and the District of Columbia deny its residents the right to carry concealed firearms outside their homes or businesses for self-defense.

“We are grateful for the support of Speaker Boehner, Majority Leader Cantor, Majority Whip McCarthy, Judiciary Chairman Smith and primary sponsors Congressmen Stearns and Shuler for their steadfast support of H.R. 822. Thanks to the persistence of millions of American gun owners and NRA members, Congress has moved one step closer to improving crucial self-defense laws in this country,” concluded Cox.

Established in 1871, the National Rifle Association is America’s oldest civil rights and sportsmen’s group. Four million members strong, NRA continues its mission to uphold Second Amendment rights and to advocate enforcement of existing laws against violent offenders to reduce crime. The Association remains the nation’s leader in firearm education and training for law-abiding gun owners, law enforcement and the military.
Tags: <a

Congressional anti-gunners pulled out all the stops, but their rhetoric could not derail this common sense measure.

“As so many of the bill’s proponents wisely pointed out during the debate,” he continued, “citizens do not leave their self-defense rights at a state border. Those who would argue otherwise evidently have no interest in public safety.

“What was remarkable,” Gottlieb observed, “is how many self-defense opponents suddenly discovered the cause of states’ rights as an excuse to oppose this legislation. This measure is not about state’s rights, it’s about individual rights.”

The vote found seven Republicans voting against the measure and 43 Democrats supporting it.

“How the bill fares when it reaches the Senate remains to be seen,” Gottlieb noted, “but this recorded House vote will give the nation’s firearms owners a chance to see how their Congressional representative feels about their rights under the Second Amendment, and about the safety of their families when they travel across state lines.

“House members can give all the lip service they want to the Second Amendment,” he concluded, “but it is votes like this that separate the superficial from the sincere.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Today’s hearing on Operation Fast and Furious before the Senate Judiciary Committee once again provided an opportunity for two leading Senate gun prohibitionists to try spreading the blame for botched gun trafficking, and change the debate to arguments for more gun control, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said.

The committee questioned Attorney General Eric Holder for two hours on Fast and Furious, and other Justice Department issues. But it was about the seriously mishandled gun trafficking investigation where committee partisans tried their bait-and-switch routine, CCRKBA said.

“Senators Charles Schumer and Dianne Feinstein tried to link discredited gun walking tactics to the earlier Bush-era Operation Wide Receiver,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “Blaming Bush is ‘so yesterday’, while their gun control agenda is on tap for tomorrow.”

Texas Sen. John Cornyn revealed the stark differences between Wide Receiver, conducted with the full cooperation of the Mexican government, and the Obama administration’s Operation Fast and Furious, done specifically without the knowledge of Mexican authorities, or our own officials assigned to Mexico City.

“It’s outrageous, but predictable, that these two partisan gun control fanatics would try such a ruse to confuse the public, and the issue,” Gottlieb stated.

Holder’s definition of a new mandatory multiple long gun sales reporting regulation as a “reasonable requirement” is a tipoff, Gottlieb said. It’s the first step toward a nationwide regulation that could turn into a back-door registry of all semiautomatic modern sport-utility rifles under an anti-gun White House and Congress, he suggested.

Schumer concentrated on linking Fast and Furious to the Bush administration, while criticizing the Republican-led House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has been “selective” in its focus.

“Schumer and Feinstein want to waste time and deflect public attention by blaming Bush while quietly promoting their own anti-gun agenda,” Gottlieb said. “They may as well have used President Obama’s teleprompters from which to read their lines.”

Tags: <a

All were working in Brooklyn, and according to the District Attorney’s office, they “exploited their experience and credentials to assist in a variety of schemes involving the illegal interstate transportation…” of guns, cigarettes, counterfeit goods and slot machines, the news agency said.

“If I were a member of Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “I’d say it was time for Bloomberg to mind his own business. While he was busily suing legitimate gun dealers all over the country and going on television to brag about it, he should have been paying closer attention to what was happening in his own back yard. After all, it was his city employees that have been charged in this illegal gun trafficking scheme.”

Gottlieb said Tuesday’s revelation clearly underscores what is wrong with Mayor Bloomberg’s relentless campaign to “erode gun rights through the demagoguery of public office.”

“Bloomberg’s fiasco is steeped in irony,” Gottlieb continued, “because this New York gun trafficking operation was happening right under the mayor’s nose, and he didn’t even know about it. He was paying too much attention to telling everyone else what was wrong with their gun laws, when he couldn’t even keep his own cops from breaking the gun laws he thinks should be used as a model all over the country

“It may be time for Bloomberg to stop looking everywhere else for gun trafficking activity and focus his attention closer to home,” he observed. “It’s pretty hard to accuse citizens in other states of feeding New York’s illegal gun trade when some of Bloomberg’s own cops appear to be up to their badges in it.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- A spike in crime over the past few weeks while New York City policemen and women have been diverted to deal with the on-going Occupy Wall Street protest prove that Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s anti-gun policies are working against law-abiding citizens who cannot protect themselves from crimes of opportunity, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

The New York Post reported over the weekend that the number of people shot went up 154 percent for a one week period, which is more than double the number of people shot during the same week last year, and overall jumped 28 percent during the past month.

“While the city is sending its cops down to Wall Street to handle the protests, the neighborhoods are being left vulnerable, and that’s because New York City continues to restrict the rights of law-abiding citizens to arm themselves,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb.

“It is bad enough when citizens must jump through a lot of hoops and pay exorbitant fees to obtain a gun permit in the Big Apple during normal times, but when police manpower is heavily diverted, those citizens are victimized by the system as much as they are by the criminals.

“Crooks certainly realize when the cops aren’t around,” he continued. “The New York Post story essentially sent a signal that criminals have a much safer working environment with police spending their time downtown instead of out on their normal beats.”

The newspaper said there have been several more shootings this month than during the same month last year.

“This is nuts,” Gottlieb observed. “When honest citizens in the neighborhoods are essentially abandoned by police who are called to deal with an extraordinary situation in Manhattan, it begs the question, how long are they supposed to live with the city’s Draconian gun control laws? New York has a cumbersome system that Mayor Bloomberg is all-too-happy to perpetuate.

“It’s time for New York City to reform its gun policies,” Gottlieb said, “and in the meantime, return its cops to the neighborhoods where they can do the most to fight crime. But streamlining the gun permit process should be Priority One.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- The Obama administration “is seeking advice and consent” for Senate ratification of an international small arms treaty, and also supports the inclusion of small arms in the UN Register of Conventional Arms, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms learned today.

The disclosure is found in the text of a statement to the First Committee of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly, delivered by Laura E. Kennedy, the permanent United States representative to the Conference on Disarmament. CCRKBA obtained a copy of the statement.

In her statement, Kennedy recalls that the United States in 1997, under the Clinton administration, signed the Inter-American Convention Against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives and Other Related Materials. However, the Senate never ratified the document, and there was no interest in pushing the treaty during the Bush administration. American firearms rights activists have steadfastly fought against inclusion of small arms in any such treaty.

“More than half the members of the Senate have already advised Barack Obama that they will not ratify any treaty that threatens the Second Amendment rights of American citizens,” noted CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “so it’s not clear why he is – according to Kennedy’s revealing statement – suddenly seeking Senate ratification of this measure.

“If the Obama administration is this eager to push adoption of a treaty that’s been gathering dust for eleven years,” he added, “one can only imagine how fast this president will want to see action on the proposed global Arms Trade Treaty.

“This suggests that Obama fears he may be a one-term president,” Gottlieb stated, “and he feels a compelling need to finally bring his anti-gun agenda to the surface and push it through. We have known all along about his desire to bind this country to an international gun control scheme, and now Kennedy’s statement confirms that.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- If President Barack Obama does not appoint a special, independent prosecutor to investigate the Justice Department’s cover-up of Operation Fast and Furious, and find out what Attorney General Eric Holder knew and when he knew it, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms may hire its own “shadow” investigator.

“President Obama told reporters yesterday that he has complete confidence in Eric Holder,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “From our perspective, it looks like the president has complete confidence that Holder will continue to stonewall Congress and cover up this mess. The President has been asked to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the attorney general. If he doesn’t, then someone else must act.”

Gottlieb said the Fast and Furious scandal is “far worse than Watergate, because nobody got killed as a result of Watergate.”

The investigation began when two on-line journalists uncovered evidence that the gun trafficking scheme put thousands of guns into the hands of Mexican cartel gunmen. Two of those guns were recovered at the murder scene of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry last December

“Fast and Furious has gotten a lot of people killed,” he observed, “including Brian Terry. CBS News disclosed Friday morning that former Deputy Attorney General Gary Grindler knew about Fast and Furious 18 months ago. He’s now Holder’s chief of staff. Yet the President and Holder both stick to the claim that they had no knowledge of the operation. Just how much longer does this administration think the American public is going to believe that story? People aren’t that gullible.

“The public deserves to know whether the Attorney General, the top law enforcement official in the United States, committed perjury when he testified before Congress,” Gottlieb said.

“What’s happening right now is a travesty,” he concluded. “Obama isn’t going to fire Holder or accept his resignation. He desperately needs Holder to stay on the job and continue obfuscating and stonewalling. Obama is more interested in damage control than he is in gun control.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s call for more gun control laws while advocating the closure of prisons in a Sunday speech proves he is “drinking too much of Michael Bloomberg’s Kool-Aid,” the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

Gov. Cuomo made his comments during a Harlem breakfast prior to the African-American Day parade, according to the New York Daily News. He reportedly said closing some prisons would release more funding for local programs.

“If Andrew Cuomo thinks keeping thugs out of prison, so he can pump the money into some community program while pushing for further disarmament of potential crime victims makes sense,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “he’s been breathing too much of the same air as the mayor of New York City. The other day, Bloomberg was babbling about riots in the streets if the government doesn’t ‘do something’ about creating jobs. It now appears Andrew Cuomo wants to keep hoodlums working, in the neighborhoods, in the convenience stores, on the streets; anywhere they can rob and steal from honest citizens.”

Gov. Cuomo also complained that we could send a person to Harvard University for the same amount it costs to incarcerate them.

“Well,” Gottlieb said, “that certainly makes sense. Let’s just move thugs to college campuses. Maybe the governor thinks criminals will climb the ladder of success by robbing a more affluent class of victims.

“Andrew Cuomo and Michael Bloomberg apparently live in the same fantasy world,” Gottlieb said. “They want to throw government money around, either to invent make-work jobs that accomplish nothing, or to pad some social program at the expense of much-needed jail space, while working overtime to disarm law-abiding citizens. They’re not in the State of New York; they’re in a state of confusion.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb noted that the mayor’s alarmist rhetoric spotlight’s the need for gun law reform in New York so that law-abiding citizens can better defend themselves in the event of anarchy.

“Mayor Bloomberg is long on warnings,” Gottlieb observed, “whether it’s about violence in the streets due to expanded concealed carry laws, increase gun ownership by law-abiding citizens, or a bleak economy for which he has offered no solutions, but expects big government to solve.

“Unfortunately,” he continued, “Mayor Bloomberg’s solutions to violent crime are typically counter to common sense, so we shouldn’t expect too much in the way of economic wisdom, either. He would keep law-abiding citizens disarmed to prevent crime, so his response to rioting would probably be to arrest people who defend their homes and businesses.

“Bloomberg’s policies,” Gottlieb said, “penalize the wrong people and he knows it. He founded ‘Mayors Against Illegal Guns’ but has pushed policies that make it harder, if not impossible, for citizens to legally obtain firearms. He would drown people in paperwork for simply seeking the means to defend themselves against this predicted chaos.

“Michael Bloomberg cannot have it both ways,” Gottlieb concluded. “If urban riots do erupt and innocent people are harmed, or lose their businesses and homes to rioters, he must accept part of the blame. His policies do not prevent victimization, they perpetuate it, and formenting hysteria over the economy doesn’t help.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today congratulated members of the New Hampshire House of Representatives for voting to expand the state’s self-defense statute by over-riding Gov. John Lynch’s veto.

The 251-111 House vote Wednesday afternoon follows a 17-7 vote by the State Senate last week, enabling SB 88 to become law.

The legislation was opposed by gun prohibition and anti-self-defense groups that insisted it would close the door for recourse by innocent bystanders who might be accidentally shot in a self-defense situation. Law enforcement officials also reportedly opposed the measure.

“The right of a citizen to defend himself or herself, or their families from violent attack is sacrosanct in this country,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “That right does not, and should not, end abruptly on the front porch of someone’s home, but cover situations that could erupt in any public place where a citizen has a right to be.

“Law-abiding citizens in other states,” he continued, “enjoy full self-defense rights, and there is no reason why the good people of New Hampshire should be treated any differently. The expansion of self-defense rights has not – as anti-gunners have consistently predicted – led to widespread incidents of vigilante justice or careless use of deadly force. Responsible armed citizens do not live down to such hysterical misrepresentations, and the anti-self-defense lobby knows it.”

Gottlieb particularly thanked House Speaker William O’Brien for what appears to have been a change of heart, allowing the override vote after earlier suggestions that no such vote would be entertained.

“We are confident that New Hampshire citizens will demonstrate the same due care and caution that citizens of other states have shown,” Gottlieb observed. “It is utter nonsense to believe that any citizen should leave his personal safety, and the safety of his loved ones, parked at home.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- At least 46 [ABC now Reporting 67 including Two Policemen] people were shot in New York City over the Labor Day weekend, prompting the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms to ask Mayor Michael Bloomberg how this could happen in a city with some of the toughest gun laws in the nation; laws that he would spread across the county.

“Mayor Bloomberg has advocated New York-style gun control for everyone, everywhere,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “This included a 24-hour period from Saturday morning to Sunday morning during which 24 people were shot. That’s a pitiful demonstration of the abject failure of Bloomberg’s anti-gun policies.

“We will probably see Mayor Bloomberg adopt the ‘Obama protocol,’ blaming someone else, or the gun laws in other states, when the sad truth is that New York gun control laws have failed consistently,” he continued. “After this weekend, Bloomberg is going to have a hard time pandering his gun control agenda.”

According to the New York Post, the Labor Day weekend saw an “epidemic of shootings” including one that occurred not far from where he was marching in the West Indian Day Parade in Brooklyn.

“Michael Bloomberg’s blood-spattered anti-gun agenda is not simply wrong for New York,” Gottlieb observed, “it is wrong for the country. No better evidence of that can be found in the Big Apple’s Labor Day weekend shooting statistics. Maybe it’s time for members of Bloomberg’s ‘Mayors Against Illegal Guns’ to wonder just where his philosophy might take their cities, if they continue listening to his siren’s song of restrictive gun control.

“New York’s mayor is the Pied Piper of Prohibition,” Gottlieb stated. “Nearly four dozen shootings over a three-day weekend is proof positive that Bloomberg’s tune is seriously off-key. It is time for Mayor Bloomberg and other gun control extremists to admit that their strategies have failed. He has been running around the country blaming gun laws in other states for his city’s crime problems, but it is the laws of his own jurisdiction that have failed miserably, and he knows it.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. This action appears to be an attempt by Holder to convince people he is taking action in response to the Fast and Furious scandal, now being investigated by Congress.

“Holder is just moving deck chairs on the Titanic,” Gottlieb stated. “Today’s announcements will do nothing to restore America’s confidence in the BATF or the Justice Department so long as Eric Holder remains the Attorney General.

“The ultimate responsibility for Fast and Furious lies with Holder,” he continued. “Melson is just the latest player to be shifted around, rather than lose his job. Everyone directly involved in the Fast and Furious scandal has simply been moved to another position. There has been no discipline and no accountability, because the man who should be ultimately accountable is still running the Justice Department.”

Gottlieb called today’s announcement “self-serving” for Holder, who is “looking out for his own interests.”

“That’s the only thing that is really transparent about this entire administration,” Gottlieb observed. “They are looking out for themselves, and playing administrative games when they should step up to the plate and accept responsibility for this scandal. Several people have been moved from the ATF office in Phoenix to other jobs, especially in Washington, D.C. because of Fast and Furious.

“If there had not been significant wrong-doing,” he said, “none of these moves would have been made. This is an admission of guilt by the Obama administration without saying so. And where is the president in all of this? Maybe he’s hiding out on the ninth hole of a golf course.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Widespread rioting, arson and looting across London clearly demonstrates the need in any civilized society for the right to personal protection and the tools to make it possible, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

Rioting that reportedly began over the police shooting of a man over the weekend has now exploded into anarchy, leaving British citizens stunned and fearful. People have been forced to flee from their homes.

CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb noted that in Great Britain, where firearms are so strictly regulated that relatively few people own them legally, and self-defense is treated like a criminal offense, citizens are literally at the mercy of the mob.

“One wonders if the thugs now terrorizing British citizens would behave better if they thought their next intended victim might be armed and willing to fight back,” Gottlieb observed. “How would these rioters fare if citizens were able to defend their homes and businesses?”

Gottlieb, co-author of America Fights Back: Armed Self-Defense in a Violent Age, noted that the riots suggest far more is at work than anger over a shooting.

“The Second Amendment has provided American citizens with the means, and the tools, to protect themselves, their families and their property,” he observed. “Rather than flee from their homes as is now happening in some London neighborhoods, people should be able to defend what is theirs rather than surrender the streets to a mob.

“Evidently,” Gottlieb added, “Americans understand that. According to data from the National Shooting Sports Foundation, people in this country – despite the economy – are buying increasing numbers of firearms. There was an 8.3 percent rise in the number of background checks with the National Instant Check System in July over the same month last year. This has been going on now for 14 straight months, according to the data.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the innocent citizens of London,” he concluded. “Anarchy is always easier when people lack the means to protect their homes and neighborhoods.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Dear Mr. Rolley:

When I first read about Otis Rolley of Baltimore, Maryland, he seemed to be a sterling example of the American dream of personal discipline and success. (http://www.otisrolley.com/about-otis)

His campaign bio is impressive, and it would seem he represents an exemplary case of the laudable actualization of the American ideal of self-determination. A man who grew up in a working class neighborhood of crime-ridden Jersey City, Mr. Rolley overcame, graduated college, and built a career of public service and civic engagement.

I salute you for your accomplishments, Mr. Rolley.

You now seek election to mayor of Baltimore, a city where you say that “Gun crime is a plague … with literally hundreds of people being shot, and many killed, every year.” Indeed, the FBI crime statistics for 2009 rank Baltimore 5th in violent crime in the country (based on crimes per 1000 residents).

The problem of violent crime in Baltimore will obviously need to be addressed by any serious candidate for mayor.

However, in response to this somber reality, you have now come out with one of the most idiotic “gun control” schemes just about anyone, anywhere, has ever floated: a bullet tax of $1.00 per bullet, a measure you claim will decrease crime in that it will “substantially increase the cost of its’ [sic] commission.” You claim that a bullet tax will work but that “Increasing the cost of guns won’t work because many criminals don’t purchase new guns and they can be borrowed or even rented in some areas.” (http://files.www.otisrolley.com/platform/Safer_Neighborhoods.pdf)

I’m curious, Mr. Rolley, at whom your proposal is aimed. Do you really expect to reduce crime with a bullet tax? Do you think that a murderer purchases his ammunition legally – and thus will incur this tax? Do you think that paying an extra $20 or $50 for a box of ammo will stop such a murderer? Make him reconsider? Are you foolish enough not to recognize that criminals get their ammunition the same way they get their guns? They steal them or buy (and sell) them in an uncontrollable network of other illegal sales.

Otis Rolley Baltimore, Maryland mayoral candidate

Or perhaps, Mr. Rolley, your tax is aimed at further disarming and penalizing Baltimore’s law-abiding citizens. As you know, over 60% of Baltimore’s residents are Black. As in many other cities – including your own hometown Jersey City –these residents are disproportionately poor and live disproportionately in crime-ridden areas. While there are bound to be some criminals among them, the vast majority are no doubt law-abiding working poor who are struggling to make a living and to protect their families from the violence that surrounds them.

An honest, law-abiding, patriotic American parent who wants to prevent the violence of the street from entering his or her home has a variety of choices for personal defense. One of the least expensive and most effective options is the purchase of a firearm.

Another Otis – Otis MacDonald – taught this lesson to the City of Chicago, and the Supreme Court agreed with him. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDonald_v._Chicago

What’s particularly ironic about your proposal is that it will hit hardest at Baltimore’s working poor – those most in need of the tools of self-defense, and those least able to pay your bullet tax.

By the way, Mr. Rolley, ideas like yours have been tried before. In the post-Civil War South, one way of preventing freed slaves from owning firearms was to make them too expensive. This was done by imposing taxes or permit fees and by outlawing so-called “Saturday night specials” – the only inexpensive handguns that the impoverished freed slaves could afford to purchase and use in self-defense. See: “History of regulation attempts” at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturday_night_special

In fact, “gun control” in America has its roots in the racist climate of the post-Civil War South. In many states, it was simply illegal for freed black slaves to own firearms. I assume you would not return your people to those Jim Crow days, to that denigrating level of second-class citizenship. Can’t you see that your bullet tax is a step in exactly this direction?

Mr. Rolley, despite your notable educational achievements and public service to date, you sadly seem to have been duped by the backers of the hidden racist agenda of “gun control.”

Would you like to learn more about the racism that lurks behind this hidden agenda? The civil rights organization under which I serve as Rabbinic Director, Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO), has produced “No Guns for Negroes,” a film which exposes the racist roots of “gun control” and explains the upside-down thinking of liberal Black politicians and activists who would disarm their own people. You can view this film for free on JPFO’s web site.

As JPFO’s Rabbinic Director, I would also like to offer you some spiritual insight. Your campaign bio declares you and your family Christians who attend Huber Memorial Church in Baltimore. You and I therefore share a deep respect for the Ten Commandments.

One of the key reasons so many Jews and Christians have been so misguided and/or confused on the fundamental, G-d given and unalienable right to self defense is because of a crucial mistranslation of the Sixth Commandment.

The proper translation of the Sixth Commandment is “Thou shalt not murder.” There is a world of moral and ethical difference between killing and murder. Should you want to delve into this issue further, JPFO has also produced “No Guns for Jews”, also available on our web site.

What would I suggest as solutions to Baltimore’s crime problem? First, severe punishment for those convicted of violent crime. Eliminate the murderers, rapists, and muggers from your city’s society. Slap-on-the-wrist law enforcement and revolving-door prison sentences have been a failure for decades.

Next, I would advocate placing many more guns in the hands of honest and law abiding Baltimore citizens. While your advocacy of “gun control” would return Baltimore’s Black citizens to the days of Jim Crow laws, my proposal would instead empower these good and decent citizens of Baltimore to protect themselves.

According to the National Institute of Justice, 58% of convicted felons stated that they feared an armed (intended) victim more than they feared the police. Want to reduce crime in Baltimore? Encourage your law-abiding citizens to arm themselves – and watch the criminals flee, in search of easier prey.

To that end, I would also advocate unlicensed Constitutional Carry in Baltimore. I would encourage the good, law-abiding citizens of your city who choose to do so to carry firearms, whether openly or discreetly. This is already permitted by law in four States in America – Wyoming, Alaska, Vermont, and Arizona. All of them have significantly lower crime rates than Baltimore, and in not one of them has a “Wild West” environment of vigilantism emerged – despite the hysterical cries from the Violence Policy Center and other deceitful advocates of citizen disarmament.

Mr. Rolley, I would also encourage your Baltimore residents to know how to use their defensive arms safely. That means practice, and practice means they need bullets – and imposing a $1 tax on each round will discourage them from this self-empowerment.

I would of course encourage firearms safety training, not hysterical, politically-correct gun phobia, in all of Baltimore’s public schools. Teach kids the sport of marksmanship and they will both gain a deep respect for the seriousness of firearms and understand the honorable and pragmatic reasons for an armed citizenry. They will recognize the world of difference between a murderer and a righteous defender.

I would stand up for the Bill of Rights and not desecrate the “Guardian” of the Bill of Rights, the Second Amendment.

In short, Mr. Rolley, don’t be suckered by the liberals who have brainwashed you about “gun control.”

Learn the history of “gun control” and how it has been used as a tool of oppression against your people. Teach your people to empower themselves against the criminals who oppress them.

Then you will be not only Baltimore’s mayor but a true leader and role model for all African-Americans.

Shalom

Rabbi Dovid Bendory
Ammoland.com)- A proposal by Baltimore, Maryland mayoral candidate Otis Rolley to levy a tax of $1 per cartridge in an effort to cut down crime and random gunfire in the city is typical of an anti-gun liberal who decries urban violence but offers a way for government to profit from it while not solving the problem, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

Rolley, a Democrat, is quoted by WBAL news acknowledging that raising the cost of firearms won’t work “because many criminals don’t purchase new guns, and they can be borrowed or even rented in some areas.”

“Sounds like Rolley’s trolley has left the tracks,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “If this guy actually believes that criminals rent firearms, he must live on Fantasy Island. Criminals steal firearms, even from the police, and when they do, they also steal the ammunition. Clearly, this one dollar-per-bullet tax idea comes from someone who doesn’t have a clue about criminals or the way they operate, but he does know about raising taxes.”

<div

There would be howls from every editorial board in the state, calling it a nutty idea that would not pass constitutional muster. The same goes for this proposed Second Amendment tax on recreational shooters, hunters and citizens concerned about personal protection.

“Rolley really needs a reality check,” Gottlieb concluded. “He ought to bite the bullet on this goofy proposal that shows just how far anti-gun extremists will go.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms congratulated the Wisconsin Assembly for its 68-27 vote that passed the state’s long-sought concealed carry measure, which Gov. Scott Walker has said he would sign.

“Badger State citizens have worked long and hard on this landmark accomplishment,” noted CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb.

“We are delighted that the bill passed with an overwhelming bipartisan majority. Wisconsin was long overdue in this action. Now Wisconsin residents can enjoy the same rights as citizens in most other states. It is a pity, however, that this required a change in control of the state legislature and the governor’s office, a fact not lost on gun owners from coast to coast.”

Former Gov. Jim Doyle, a Democrat, had twice vetoed concealed carry legislation adopted by state lawmakers who would not override either veto, due to party partisanship.

“Not surprisingly,” Gottlieb noted, “gun prohibitionists have been predicting all kinds of calamity if concealed carry comes to the state. As we have seen in other states where such common-sense personal safety laws have been adopted, we’re confident that the good citizens of Wisconsin will soon prove those predictions were unfounded.

“It is disappointing,” he observed, “that some church leaders continue to criticize the legislation, and encourage fear of legally-armed citizens. They must have forgotten the victims of the March 2005 shooting in Brookfield during an evangelical church meeting, who could not defend themselves against Terry Ratzmann. Perhaps they also forgot that an armed private citizen, serving as a security volunteer, stopped a gunman from opening fire at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs in 2007.

“Wisconsin’s new law will enhance public safety,” Gottlieb concluded. “We have faith in Wisconsin citizens, who are no different than Americans in other states who already enjoy full exercise of their right to bear arms. This leaves only Illinois in the firearms rights dark ages, but we’re patient.” [and for all practical reasons New Jersey - AmmoLand]

Tags: Don't Tread On Me

USA --(Ammoland.com)- When we celebrate the Fourth of July, let’s keep in mind that the first Americans won their independence from England with the force of arms.

It was, in fact, a British effort in 1775 to confiscate military arms they believed were stored in Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts that sparked the war.

The Founding Fathers were so aware of the need for an armed citizenry that, after ensuring freedom of religion, speech, press and the right to peacefully assemble in the First Amendment, the Second guaranteed their right to bear arms.

Wherever authoritarian regimes were established in the last century, they took away this right and then proceeded to kill those deemed enemies of the state.

At this point in American history, the Obama administration constitutes a threat to the Constitution in general and the Second Amendment in particular.

More than 80,000,000 Americans are gun owners.
Two of the organizations that have been fighting to protect these rights are the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) and the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA), both led by Alan M. Gottlieb. Three quarters of the SAF budget is devoted to defending rights pertaining to the ownership of guns and to carry them for self-defense.

In March, the liberal Huffington Post had an article titled “Obama Looking for Ways Around Congress on Gun Policy” by Sam Stein.

“Faced with a Congress hostile to even slight restrictions of Second Amendment rights, the Obama administration is exploring potential changes to gun laws that can be secured strictly through executive action, administration officials, say.”

Since then we have learned of a U.S. Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms program, Fast and Furious, that actually facilitated the sale and transfer of guns to Mexico. How demented is that?

In May in my home state of New Jersey the SAF won a decision against officials for the deprivation of civil rights under the color of law when they had ruled that an applicant for a concealed carry permit had not demonstrated a “justifiable need” for it. In point of fact, the applicant, Philip Muller, had been kidnapped by members of a motorcycle gang who threatened to kill him. They had, however, grabbed the wrong man.

Despite support by local and state police, action on his application was delayed for six months. Morris County Superior Court Judge David Ironson issued a directive that a permit should be granted. The case is still on-going with other plaintiffs that include a part-time sheriff’s deputy, an applicant who carries large amounts of cash in his private business, and a civilian employee of the FBI with legitimate concerns of an attack from a radical Islamic group.

Currently nearly thirty such cases have either been brought or joined by SAF to stop abuses of this most fundamental right of American citizens ranging from bans on interstate handgun sales, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s imposition of a $340 fee for a permit to keep a handgun in one’s home, and a Chicago ban on gun ranges open to the public. These cases cost between $60,000 and $80,000 each!

The greatest single threat to gun ownership right now is a United Nations “Small Arms Treaty” falsely identified as an “international arms control treaty” allegedly to fight terrorism.”

“In reality,” says Gottlieb, it is “a massive, global gun control scheme. It’s a sham. It’s a fraud.” If the U.S., under the Obama administration and with the consent of the Senate, were to sign on to this treaty, it would nullify the Second Amendment.

Suffice to say that the Obama administration wants to have the power to increase federal fees on guns and ammunition, to ban guns that are imported, to extend the waiting periods for permits, to ban the use of guns on all government property, and even to make it illegal if you own a gun and smoke!

Americans do not have to “justify” gun ownership. It is guaranteed by the Second Amendment. The reality is that enemies of this fundamental rights continue to wage an assault on it.

For information about SAF visit Ammoland.com)- The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said Thursday’s planned forum on gun trafficking, called by Democrat Congressman Elijah Cummings, is a political smokescreen designed to shift blame for a botched gun sting operation from the Obama administration to this country’s gun owners, retailers and their firearms civil rights.

Cummings, ranking member on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, which has held hearings on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ Operation Fast and Furious, has invited a Who’s Who of anti-gunners to speak at this forum, which begins at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the Russell Senate Office Building, Room 428A.

“This isn’t a forum,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “It’s a Capitol Hill kangaroo court with the singular goal of deflecting public attention away from the Justice Department’s horrible mishandling of a gunrunning sting that has flooded Mexico with guns. Operation Fast and Furious is a product of the Obama administration, and Cummings is running interference for the White House and Attorney General Eric Holder.

“The real culprits here are the ATF officials and people in the Justice Department who either approved this operation or knew about it and allowed it to happen, and everybody knows it,” he continued. “Operation Fast and Furious allowed guns to get into the hands of people who murdered Border Patrol agent Brian Terry and countless Mexican citizens, including a prominent attorney.

“But Cummings isn’t interested in pursuing the truth,” Gottlieb stated. “With a speaker lineup that includes anti-gun Sen. Charles Schumer, Kristen Rand from the Violence Policy Center and Brady Campaign President Paul Helmke – and nobody representing any major gun rights organization or any of the ATF whistleblowers – this forum is a flimsy sham with one clear purpose. Mr. Cummings wants to whitewash a Justice Department debacle and blame the mayhem in Mexico on gun rights, gun owners and gun dealers.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Following more than four hours of testimony before a House committee today by a U.S. Senator, government whistleblowers and relatives of a slain Border Patrol agent, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is calling for the immediate suspension.

Suspension without pay, of all supervisors involved in a controversial gunrunning sting operation, including the acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and his deputies, and the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate and determine who initiated this project and who approved it.

Operation Fast and Furious was the ATF’s botched gun trafficking investigation in Arizona that allowed more than 2,000 guns to be moved into a criminal pipeline leading straight to Mexico. Today’s stunning revelations under oath by ATF agents before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform suggest there were willful violations of ATF policy and procedures that were allegedly ordered by supervisors in Phoenix with the knowledge of the agency hierarchy in Washington, D.C.

“Today’s hearing revealed one outrage after another,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan M. Gottlieb. “Everybody who was involved in this debacle must be held accountable. That can only happen if there is an independent prosecutor, someone who cannot be influenced by the Justice Department.

“It is clear that members of Congress have been stonewalled,” he continued. “We share Congressman Darrell Issa’s outrage at the conduct of the Justice Department, and particularly the ATF. They’re supposed to be preventing criminals from getting firearms, not facilitating it.

“We think an independent prosecutor is important for another reason,” Gottlieb added. “Attempts by some members of the House Oversight committee to politicize this investigation are disappointing. Finding the truth about how this operation went wrong is not a launch pad for some new gun control effort. Don’t blame our gun laws and gun rights for the criminal acts of people who should have been arrested before anybody got killed.

“For the present,” he concluded, “the ATF should be immediately put under the command of people who clearly understand that it is their job to prevent illegal gun trafficking, instead of allowing it to happen. There has been a serious lack of leadership and accountability, and that needs to be fixed today.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- In the shell game characterizing the North Carolina legislative process, a modified HB 650 passed the Senate Judiciary II Committee today and heads for the floor for its Second and Third Readings, quite probably tomorrow.

With the legislature likely to recess on Friday, time is short. YOU MUST RESPOND IMMEDIATELY.

In its current version, HB 650 contains Castle Doctrine, parks carry, enhanced concealed handgun reciprocity, improvements to our concealed handgun law, and far more.

Sadly, HB 650 – and your rights – face a threat not from legislators, but from the efforts of an organization ostensibly dedicated to defending the Second Amendment. Below is an open letter to North Carolina gun rights supporters – but equally vital to gun rights supporters everywhere – which explains the problem.

OPEN LETTER FROM PAUL VALONE AND ALAN GOTTLIEB:
IS SB 594 THE RIGHT BILL?

To: North Carolina Gun Rights Supporters

From: GRNC President F. Paul Valone
CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb

Members of the NRA recently received postcards urging them to call NC Senate leadership in support of Senate Bill 594, described in the postcard as “an emergency powers bill [to] ensure that our Right to Keep and Bear Arms cannot be suspended” during declared states of emergency.

But while North Carolina’s state of emergency law is indeed a problem, SB 594 is the wrong solution. Worse, it seems to be a short-sighted effort by the NRA to grab credit for what some would have you believe to be a victory.

Why? Because it would render moot – and cause the dismissal – of crucial litigation to expand recognition of the Second Amendment in the U.S. Supreme Court. The case is Bateman v. Perdue. Together with the Michael Bateman, Virgil Green, Forrest Minges, and the Second Amendment Foundation, GRNC is working with Alan Gura – the winner of DC v. Heller and McDonald v. Chicago – the cases which led the Supreme Court to affirm the individual right to keep and bear arms.

Although GRNC has made numerous entreaties to NRA representatives to back the Bateman case, they have apparently fallen on deaf ears. Just as the NRA tried to derail the DC v. Heller decision in its early stages through its attempts to repeal the DC gun ban, now it apparently wants gun owners to regard GRNC – the state’s most vocal and effective gun rights organization – as somehow “anti-gun” for realizing that SB 594 is a short-sighted and misguided vehicle to advance gun rights.

Gun rights supporters have two choices:

Help the NRA achieve a narrow, short-sighted win by amending HB 650 or other gun bills to include language from SB 594, the now-dead “state of emergency” bill; or

Help Gura, SAF and GRNC expand the interpretation of the Second Amendment, which will not only render North Carolina’s state of emergency law unconstitutional, but will advance gun rights for everyone, everywhere.

Don’t support GRNC. Don’t support CCRKBA. Don’t support the NRA. SUPPORT THE SECOND AMENDMENT! And do so by helping Bateman v. Perdue expand your right to keep and bear arms.

Armatissimi e liberissimi,

F. Paul Valone<br

Highland Drive, Suite B Las Vegas, NV

CCRKBA Chairman Alan M. Gottlieb will be speaking at the event.

He said the “Guns Save Lives” campaign is a counter to an effort launched earlier this year by anti-gun New York Mayor Michael Blomberg and Mayors Against Illegal Guns. Bloomberg and MAIG hired a mobile billboard to promote gun control, and CCRKBA fought back. Gottlieb said Bloomberg’s campaign “tells less than half of a story, so we’re setting the record straight.”

“We’re answering Bloomberg’s flash with genuine substance,” Gottlieb stated. “Our campaign has visited several major cities to tell people what Bloomberg didn’t tell them. Guns are legally used between 800,000 and 2.5 million times annually in self-defense situations. That’s 2,100 to 6,800 people every day who successfully use firearms to defend themselves, or prevent a criminal attack. In the majority of those incidents, no shots are fired, so nobody is injured or killed. In some cases where shots are fired by armed citizens, several lives are saved.”

CCRKBA has teamed up with the Second Amendment Foundation, which produced educational materials on firearms rights, the number of lives saved and the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

“While Bloomberg has been shooting blanks,” Gottlieb explained, “CCRKBA has been hitting the bull’s eye with information Americans need to protect their civil rights.

“Bloomberg’s campaign was a smokescreen,” he said. “America needs to look behind the facade to see that his ultimate goal is to convince Congress to implement New York-style gun control laws, ban most semiautomatic firearms, stretch background checks out to between six and nine months, and to put gun shows out of business.

“No mayor, regardless how wealthy he is, should dictate to Congress or the people of Nevada the terms of their civil rights,” Gottlieb said. “Bloomberg is spreading hysteria about gun rights. We’re spreading the truth.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Preliminary crime data from the FBI for 2010 adds more evidence that gun prohibitionists have been consistently wrong, and that more guns do not equal more crime, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

According to the FBI, all four violent crime offense categories show declines nationwide for 2010, with murder and manslaughter down 4.4 percent from 2009, robbery down 9.5 percent and aggravated assault down 3.6 percent. Forcible rape was down 4.2 percent. Violent crime declined in all four regions of the country. At the same time, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, firearm sales were up dramatically.

“Gun banners can spin data anyway they want,” observed CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “but in the final analysis, their contention that more guns in the hands of law abiding citizens translates to more crime is clearly nonsense. More than 6.2 million citizens are licensed to carry, Wisconsin appears ready to join states with rational carry laws, and the NSSF reports that the largest surge in gun sales happened during the years 2008 to 2010.

“Instead of more guns resulting in more crime,” he added, “increased gun ownership just might be having the opposite effect. Of course, you’d never get the gun prohibition lobby to admit that.”

According to the FBI report, released Monday, violent crime declined in all city categories, with the greatest drop at 6.9 percent in cities with populations of 250,000 to 499,999, although these cities reported a 3 percent increase in murder and manslaughter. Violent crime in rural counties decreased 6.4 percent and in metropolitan counties, the decline was 6 percent, the FBI report said. Murder and manslaughter dropped 25.2 percent in small cities (below 10,000 populations). Robbery is also down across the board, the FBI report said.

“The bottom line,” Gottlieb stated, “is that none of the extremist predictions about blood in the streets and skyrocketing body counts as a result of increased gun ownership, reformed gun laws and expanded concealed carry have come true. Once again, the Chicken Little mentality of the anti-gun lobby has been refuted by the facts.

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today announced that even though its rolling billboard bearing the message “Guns Save Lives” has been prohibited from driving through New York City’s Times Square, people will still get to see it, on the famed Times Square electronic billboard.

CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb announced that the message will be flashed on Wednesday, calling attention to the fact that firearms in the hands of law-abiding private citizens save lives. CCRKBA has sponsored a rolling billboard truck in several cities this spring, in reaction to a nationwide anti-gun campaign launched by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Mayors Against Illegal Guns. The CCRKBA campaign most recently was in Pittsburgh.

“We believe that the American public, and New Yorkers in particular, deserve to understand that on the average, guns save 2,191 lives and are used to thwart crimes every day,” Gottlieb said. “Michael Bloomberg would have people believe only that guns are bad, even while he enjoys the benefits of armed bodyguards wherever he goes. Average citizens do not have that billionaire lifestyle luxury.

“Instead,” he continued, “average citizens outside of anti-gun gulags like New York and Chicago have learned to take care of themselves. One way they do that is by exercising their right to keep and bear arms, a concept that Bloomberg has tried to impair since he took office.”

The “Guns Save Lives” message has also appeared in Los Angeles, Phoenix, Chicago, Milwaukee, Washington, D.C. and Miami. At every stop, including one outside of the Los Angeles Times building, and outside of the Miami Herald building, the message has been well received. Local volunteers have helped stage events in several cities.

“Our message will not be silenced,” Gottlieb said, “and on Wednesday, with people from all over the map watching at Times Square, we will have an impact. Michael Bloomberg has been trying to spread hysteria about gun rights. We’re going to spread the truth.”

Ammoland.com)- Scheduled to retire from office next Tuesday, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley remains a monumental hypocrite to the bitter end and his request for publicly-financed armed bodyguards proves it, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today

As Daley prepares to leave office, a Washington Times editorial bares the anti-gun Democrat’s hypocrisy. For years, Daley has had armed bodyguards protecting him at the same time he has worked fanatically to deprive his Chicago constituents and every other citizen in Illinois the same level of security, by pushing every crazy anti-gun scheme he or his colleagues could dream up.

Now he wants that same privilege to carry into retirement.

“Despite the city’s loss before the U.S. Supreme Court last year in McDonald v. City of Chicago – the landmark case won by the Second Amendment Foundation – Daley has continued to throw every roadblock possible in the path of law-abiding citizens who want to exercise their Second Amendment rights,” noted CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “They only want to feel the same sense of safety that Daley has enjoyed, at their expense, for years.

“If Daley wants armed bodyguards,” he continued, “then he needs to pay for them out of his own pocket. If one penny of public money is spent for Daley’s security, it will be an outrage.”

Gottlieb said it is disgusting for Daley to expect a different level of treatment than any other private citizen. Once he leaves public office, he should lose every perk, and that should start with losing his armed security team.

“Richard Daley is living proof of liberal anti-gun arrogance,” Gottlieb observed. “This man has devoted himself to disarming law-abiding citizens, leaving them to the mercy of inner city thugs who habitually disobey Chicago’s gun laws. If he truly believed that guns are bad, then he would drop his request and take his chances with 911 like all of the people whose rights he has trampled.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. title="Ammoland" href="http://www.Ammoland.com" target="_blank">Ammoland.com)- Following a second day of Capitol Hill hearings in which he professed little or no knowledge about the controversial Project Gunrunner, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today called for the resignation of Attorney General Eric Holder.

“For the second day in a row, Attorney General Holder has stated on the record that he didn’t know about one of the most egregious government scandals in memory,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “This country cannot afford the luxury of having its top law enforcement officer confess ignorance of an operation that may have allowed thousands of guns to be illegally exported to Mexico. This operation happened on his watch, and apparently right under his nose, and apparently cost the life of at least one law enforcement officer.”

Gottlieb called it an “outrage” that Holder has been unable to answer critical questions about the bungled operation, conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. ATF whistleblowers have told Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) and Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA) that Project Gunrunner, and its off-shoot, Operation Fast and Furious, apparently funneled nearly 2,000 guns into the illicit gun trafficking pipeline to Mexican drug cartels.

“It is simply unbelievable that the attorney general can act as though he never heard of an operation that has been exposed on national television by CBS News,” Gottlieb stated. “How could he not know, almost six months after the slaying of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry, that guns recovered at the scene are linked directly to the Gunrunner sting?

“Holder is either monumentally stupid,” he added, “or he is telling a monumental lie. Either way, it is obvious that Holder is either hiding something or he is hiding from something. For the attorney general to not know about Gunrunner and its direct link to the Terry slaying is a sign of gross incompetence.

“It’s time for Eric Holder to go home and write his memoirs,” Gottlieb said.

About CCRKBA:<br

Gottlieb said Bloomberg’s campaign “tells less than half of a story, so we’re setting the record straight in the Keystone State.”

“We’re answering Bloomberg’s flash with genuine substance,” he explained. “We’re telling people what Bloomberg

isn’t telling them. Guns save between 800,000 and 2.5 million lives annually. That’s 2,100 to 6,800 people every day who successfully use firearms to defend themselves, or prevent a criminal attack. In the majority of those incidents, no shots are fired, and nobody is injured or killed. In some cases where shots are fired by armed citizens, several lives are saved.”

CCRKBA has teamed up with the Second Amendment Foundation, which is producing educational materials on firearms rights, the number of lives saved and the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Last year, SAF won a landmark Supreme Court victory in McDonald v. City of Chicago, ending that city’s handgun ban.

“While Bloomberg is shooting blanks,” Gottlieb explained, “CCRKBA is hitting the bull’s eye with information Americans need to protect their civil rights. What better place to do that than in Pittsburgh when tens of thousands of gun rights activists will be in town?”

“Bloomberg’s campaign is a smokescreen,” he continued. “America needs to look behind the facade to see that his ultimate goal is to convince Congress to implement New York-style gun control laws, ban most semiautomatic firearms, stretch background checks out to between six and nine months, and to put gun shows out of business.

“No mayor, regardless how wealthy he is, should dictate to Congress, the citizens of Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia or anywhere else the terms of their civil rights,” Gottlieb said. “Michael Bloomberg is spreading hysteria about gun rights. We’re spreading the truth.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Continued stalling by the Justice Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives over Congressional inquiries about “Project Gunrunner” strongly suggest that the Obama administration is more deeply involved than the president has indicated, and now appears to be actively stonewalling the investigation, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

“The Justice Department’s reaction to a threatened contempt proceeding by Congressman Darrell Issa is that his letter is ‘being reviewed’,” noted CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “President Obama promised to give Americans a transparent administration when he took office, but the only thing transparent about this scandal is the administration’s obvious effort to ignore the investigation until it goes away.”

On Wednesday, Gottlieb called for the resignation or firing of Acting ATF Director Kenneth Melson because of his failure to respond to Gunrunner inquiries and a March 31 subpoena from Congressman Darrell Issa that sought Gunrunner documents. Instead, Issa and Senator Charles Grassley, who is conducting his own Gunrunner probe, have accused the ATF and Justice Department of stonewalling.

“If the administration has nothing to hide,” Gottlieb said, “the White House would immediately order the Justice Department and ATF to open their files to the Capitol Hill investigations. You can bet the White House press corps would be demanding that if there were a Bush, rather than an Obama, in the Oval Office.

“We’re waiting for the White House to tell us that ‘this isn’t Watergate’,” he continued, “and they would be right. Nobody got killed because of Watergate. The geniuses who allowed Gunrunner to get out of control can’t say that.

“Barack Obama told a Univision reporter that neither he, nor Attorney General Eric Holder approved Project Gunrunner,” Gottlieb noted, “but that doesn’t mean they didn’t know about it. His statement amounts to plausible deniability and nothing more.

“The president has a credibility problem,” Gottlieb said, “and it’s not about his birth certificate. It’s about Project Gunrunner. He needs to tell the Justice Department to drop the stalling tactics and come clean.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. He should resign or be fired, and he should be replaced by a professional who will work quickly to clean up the ATF, and that starts with providing all Project Gunrunner documents to Congress.”

Rep. Issa sent a letter to Melson earlier today, chastising him for not complying with the subpoena. In that letter, Issa also complained that Assistant Attorney General Ronald Weich’s responses on behalf of the ATF have been “largely unhelpful.”

“It appears that Mr. Weich is running interference for Melson and the ATF officials who controlled Gunrunner and its adjunct, Operation Fast-and-Furious,” Gottlieb said. “The only conclusion one can draw from this is that Attorney General Eric Holder’s Justice Department is fully engaged in this smoke and mirrors sham.

“Obama administration officials evidently believe this scandal will just go away if they ignore it,” he continued. “Congressman Issa’s committee has every right to demand documents and the authority to review them. Barack Obama promised the most transparent administration in history, and this coverup proves his rhetoric was as empty as the suit he is wearing.

“If Melson, and for that matter, Weich, cannot deliver today,” Gottlieb concluded, “they should both clean out their desks tomorrow.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. His telephone number is (602) 926-5495 and his e-mail address is kadams@azleg.gov. Supporters of the bill are encouraged to call the speaker.

CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, who owns property and a home near Phoenix, called the measure “A grand idea that highlights Arizona’s colorful history, and helps keep America’s firearms tradition alive.”

“There is much more at stake here than mere symbolism,” said ASRPA’s Landis Aden. “As with the case in Utah where the legislature designated the Colt Model 1911 the official state firearm, this bill will continue to acknowledge that firearms have been a vitally important part of American history and freedom. We cannot allow the truth to be ignored or forgotten.”

Aden and his fellow ASRPA members are urging Arizona gun owners to call their two state representatives and encourage them to also support SB 1610. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms this morning said legislation unveiled last Friday to repeal Washington State’s strong self-defense protection is “an outrageous attack on the right of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves and their families.”

House Bill 2067, sponsored by anti-gun State Rep. Ross Hunter (D-48th District), would repeal a long-standing state statute that provides state reimbursement of all reasonable legal costs when a citizen is charged with a crime and later found not guilty by reason of self-defense. This bill was read for the first time on Saturday, and is scheduled for a hearing tomorrow, Wednesday, April 13 at 3 p.m. before the House Ways and Means Committee, which Hunter chairs.

“What Hunter is trying to do,” said CCRKBA Legislative Director Joe Waldron, “is limit the citizens’ right of self-defense by eliminating any chance of reimbursement by the state if they must defend themselves in court.

“The Legislature is scratching for money anywhere they can find it,” he continued, “but in this case, Hunter is trying to balance the budget by jeopardizing the self-defense rights of law-abiding citizens. That’s unconscionable, and the fact that he is trying to ram this through at the 11th hour with very little public notice is outrageous.”

Washington’s reimbursement statute, RCW 9A.16.110, is unique in the nation. It dates back more than 30 years, and is an important barrier that discourages unwarranted prosecution of citizens who defend themselves or their families, or other crime victims. The law provides for reimbursement of legal costs, and even lost wages due to confinement. These costs are awarded only when the claim of self-defense is sustained by a preponderance of the evidence.

“It is traumatic enough that a citizen must forcefully defend himself or herself, their family or some other person who is being attacked,” Waldron stated. “For that citizen to be subjected to a legal nightmare that could wipe them out financially is a moral insult. Our existing law protects citizens from this kind of legal abuse. We’re encouraging out members to call the Legislative Hotline at 1-800-562-6000 to oppose this measure.”

House Ways & Means Committee:

Representative Ross Hunter (D-48), Chairman
Ammoland.com)- Brady Campaign President Paul Helmke has, perhaps inadvertently, revealed his intentions to push for an expanded ban on semiautomatic sport-utility rifles, and he invented a new demon in the process, proving he has no intention of finding common ground with gun owners, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

Writing yesterday in his blog on the Opposing Views forum about his meeting with Obama administration officials last week, Helmke outlined his wish list, which includes “increasing the number and type of military-style weapons, including ‘assault clips,’ that should not be readily available to civilians…”

“So, this is Paul Helmke’s definition of a ‘new discussion’ that President Obama mentioned in his Op-Ed column two weeks ago,” observed CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “Sounds like the same old rhetoric to us. Helmke wants to ban a larger number of commonly-owned firearms, and he has invented a new term to demonize a commonly-owned shooting accessory. Maybe that’s what Helmke thinks Obama meant.”

Assault Clips - The Gun-Ban Lobby's New Made Up Word

In his column, Helmke once again alludes to the “flood of guns being illegally trafficked” to Mexico. Gottlieb said there is one glaring omission in his statement.

“Nowhere does Helmke mention that this so-called ‘flood of guns’ was evidently accelerated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ scandalous Project Gunrunner and Operation Fast and Furious,” he observed. “Maybe Helmke doesn’t watch CBS news or read the newspapers, which have revealed that those ATF operations funneled thousands of guns into the black market pipeline that goes into Mexico.

“Helmke complained that one gun rights organization has declined to participate in what is quickly looking like a charade,” Gottlieb stated. “The Citizens Committee is still waiting for an invitation, because we would be happy to talk about all of the guns this administration has supplied to Mexican criminals.

“Paul Helmke and Barack Obama aren’t interested in any ‘new discussion’,” Gottlieb concluded. “They’re just putting a new wrapping on stale ideas and hoping the public doesn’t recognize the difference.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations.
