title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)-So what if you scheduled a conservation fundraising event, and everyone came?

That is the problem facing Whitetails Unlimited Field Director Dennis Malloy, because his Bucks County (Pennsylvania) Chapter Hunters Night Out sold out in two days, and there were hundreds of requests for additional tickets.

So Malloy, along with his local chapter volunteers, decided to double their workload and schedule a second, identical event to accommodate the demand.

“This is going to be a unique situation, and I’ve never seen people work as hard as they have to pull this off,” said Malloy. “The committee didn’t want to shut anyone out, and everyone has pitched in to have two identical events in 24 hours. It’s amazing, and a little humbling, to be a part of this.”

The original event is scheduled for Saturday, June 4, at the New Hope Eagle Fire Company in New Hope, Pennsylvania. The additional event will be held in the same place 24 hours earlier, on Friday, June 3.

“We are going to have an identical event both nights,” said Malloy. “The same place, the same food, the same guns and prizes, and we even have T-Bone both nights. We want to make sure no one misses anything, and by adding a second night we don’t diminish any aspect of a terrific WTU banquet experience.”

The ‘T-Bone’ Malloy referenced is Travis “T-Bone” Turner, one of the stars of Michael Waddell’s Bone Collector television show.

“Since this would be such a unique weekend, we invited T-Bone to double up with us as a bonus for the membership. T-Bone jumped at the chance, and he’s going to be at both banquets, to thank everyone for their support of WTU and share stories and his unique take on hunters and hunting. T-Bone is going to be the icing on the cake for this celebration of deer and deer hunting.”

There are still tickets remaining for the bonus Friday night event – call East Coast Taxidermy at 215-799-1900, or go on the WTU website at www.whitetailsunlimited.com. Tickets are $30 each, and include entry, meal, door prizes, beer and soft drinks. There will also be a free kids drawing and some of the best gun raffles in the country. The event invitation is available on the WTU website at: http://tiny.cc/qh6fr.

“This community is so dedicated, and they are focused on providing a fantastic whitetail weekend in eastern Pennsylvania for everyone who wants to attend,” said Malloy. “This is one of the best conservation events in the eastern part of the country, and doing two of them, back-to-back, is a fantastic way to top off the spring banquet season.”

Founded in 1982, Whitetails Unlimited is a national nonprofit conservation organization. Our mission is to raise funds in support of education, habitat enhancement and acquisition, and the preservation of the hunting tradition for the benefit of the white-tailed deer and other wildlife. When it comes to the whitetail and its environment, WTU’s degree of professionalism and dedication has earned us the reputation of being the nation’s premier whitetail organization.
Tags: <a

His long term goal is to start additional Billy’s Place homes around the country. In 2011, he will host the 5th annual Craig Morgan Charity Ride, which has raised nearly $50,000 the last two years alone, in support of Billy’s Place and other children’s welfare organizations.
Tags: Ammoland.com)- Thirteen years ago, VSSA began sponsoring what has become the longest running charity shooting event of its type.

Founder Steve Canale refers to it as the best job that you don’t get paid to do.

This year’s event will be held on June 11, 2011 at the Arlington-Fairfax IWLA. It is a fun event and well worth attending. The event has sold out the last three years. Below is more information on the event and the important charity it supports.

Heroes Like You Can Help Heroes Like These
by Steve Canale
Everyday heroes don’t always make headlines. Most aren’t strong, brave or well-known, but these men and women step up to help those less fortunate. You meet them at work, in the grocery store, on the busy street . . . everywhere.

I meet them the 2nd Saturday each June, at Crush’n Clays. These heroes give their time and treasure to benefit the kids of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Crush’n Clays is the longest running shooting charity event that benefits St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. It is also the longest continuously running shooting charity event in the country. It’s success was has been chronicled in the IWLA national magazine, Outdoor America, NRA Club Connection, as well as numerous websites.

To date, we’ve raised over $230,000. The event wouldn’t be possible without the support of Arlington-Fairfax IWLA, the Virginia Shooting Sports Association and our sponsors such as the National Rifle Association, and Dominick Casciano of Atlantic Healthcare.

Let me introduce you to one of the patients this event benefits.

Nathan is just a year old and is an energetic boy who loves running after his brothers and playing outside.

Nathan’s mom couldn’t seem to get a picture of her baby without capturing a glint of white in his left eye, she thought her camera was malfunctioning. Her pictures kept coming out the same, and she started to wonder if something was wrong with little Nathan’s eye. At Nathan’s 6-month checkup, she decided to show one of the photographs to his pediatrician. The doctor took one look at the photograph, and his face turned serious. He recommended she take Nathan to specialists right away.

At the family’s local hospital, the diagnosis was made: Nathan had bilateral retinoblastoma, a form of eye cancer. Tumors were present in both of Nathan’s eyes, and he would need further care. Crushed, Nathan’s parents asked the doctor where they should turn for their son’s treatment. The doctor was quick to recommend St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “We can treat it here, but at St. Jude, they’re doing research. They have new treatments,” she said. “If it was my child, I would go to St. Jude.”

The doctor provided a referral, and within a few days, Nathan and his parents were on their way to St. Jude.

At St. Jude, Nathan received a total of 11 rounds of chemotherapy over the course of eight months. He also had laser treatments when, during treatment, his tumors started to grow back. In spring 2009, Nathan completed treatment and was able to have his no-more chemo party. He returns to St. Jude for regular checkups.

Regardless of whether you can attend this year’s Crush’n Clays” event, please consider making a contribution.

You make a living from what you get, but you make a life from what you give. Heroes like you can help heroes like these.

Contributions can be made to “Crush’n Clays” and sent to: Virginia Shooting Sports Association, P.O. The goal is to help provide any person in need with a warm coat free of charge.

LIF is also partnering with Long Island Cares and Burlington Coat Factory in the “Keep Long Island Warm” drive. All coats collected will be distributed locally to families in need on Long Island.

On Long Island, more than just people at the poverty level find themselves in dire straits. Unemployment and foreclosures have forced more people than ever into shelters or to stay with relatives and friends. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="../" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- A custom-made, limited-edition Mark V rifle and a Vanguard rifle donated by Weatherby helped raise more than $100,000 to support scholarship and leadership development programs of the National High School Rodeo Association (NHSRA).

The NHSRA conducted a national drawing for the Weatherby rifles. The Mark V was valued at $14,000, and the Vanguard was part of a Texas deer hunt package. The drawing, held this summer at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Gillette, Wyo., gave participants the chance to win the rifles with each $10 donation.

“The NHSRA is thrilled with the success of the benefit,” said Austin White, NHSRA marketing director. “The money raised supported our state and provincial scholarship programs, the national college scholarship program and other valuable leadership development programs. Having Weatherby play such a major role as a sponsor of the benefit for the past nine years means so much to our association, membership and benefactors.”

“Weatherby is proud to help support the NHSRA and the high school athletes who represent their sport so well,” said Brad Ruddell, Weatherby’s vice president of sales and marketing. “We very much appreciate the opportunity to partner with the NHSRA in helping these youngsters further their education and develop their leadership skills.”

“NHSRA Scholarship Rifle 2010” is engraved on the Mark V’s barrel, while the NHSRA logo is engraved on the floorplate. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Webster’s Dictionary lists eight different definitions for the word “Family.”

The most common is “a group of individuals living under one roof and usually under one head.” At Outdoors Magazine our idea of “family” goes far beyond this. It encompasses a group of people that are united by similar passions and convictions, who know the importance of helping each other.

It is because of this simple idea that Outdoors Magazine is launching a special program for friends and family titled “OM Cares.”

“It is really a simple program,” said James Austin, the president of Elk Publishing. “If you are a non-profit organization currently involved in a fundraising effort we would like to help out. All you need to do is promote subscriptions to Outdoors Magazine on your website or in your literature, and for every one you sell we will donate half the proceeds back to your organization.”

“It is important to us that this effort works for the organizations so we are allowing them to sell the subscriptions for the special rate of $20, which is well below our normal subscription price. That means for every one the organization sells, it will get $10 in its coffers,” said Austin. “It really is that simple. There is no fine print or any strings attached.”

For the past three months Outdoors Magazine has been working out the technicalities of the program with a handful of local organizations including the Pine Grove Program.

“We are really looking forward to getting other organizations involved across the country,” said Austin. “In these lean economic times it is the least we can do to help other organizations that are as passionate about the outdoors as we are.”

About:
The Lewis County Libraries and Reading Centers have lost much of their state and county funding. Because of the funding cuts, many libraries have had to reduce their open hours. Some libraries and reading centers cannot purchase new books, magazines and barely have funding to pay overall operating expenses. By giving the children of our community educational and reading material, we are helping to grow our future.

Hospice of Lewis County is an organization that assists those on the final journey in life. Many people don’t realize the physical and emotional support that Hospice offers and how important Hospice is until their lives are touched by death. The purpose of Hospice care is to enable individuals to be cared for at home, receiving relief from pain and other symptoms, in the place where they are most comfortable. Hospice provides support and encouragement so patients and families can live life as fully as possible. With Hospice funding being limited, many patient and caregiver programs have been cut. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- The Fort Bragg QDMA Branch will conduct our 3rd Annual Reach Banquet 17 Sep 2010. The banquet will be held at the Gates Four Club House in Fayetteville, NC.

The purpose of this banquet is to raise funds for our Wounded Warrior to the Woods Program (W3P) and Youth Hunting Program. The Fort Bragg QDMA Branch is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit wildlife conservation organization.

Please consider partnering with us through products, cash donations or sponsorship.

Our branch began the W3P in the summer of 2008 with the intent of reuniting our heroes with the Great Outdoors, in the country they love and have sacrificed so much for. Many of these warriors were avid outdoor enthusiasts before being called to duty. Due to the nature of their injuries, many of them are unable to pursue their passions without physical, mental, and financial support. The branch, in cooperation with the Boys Scouts of America, is currently building disabled-accessible hunting blinds on Ft. Bragg. Our Youth Hunting Program was formed to support the military family. Due to the parents’ intense deployment schedule to Iraq and Afghanistan, many of these children would not be able to participate in these outdoor activities. During these events, our sponsored hunters are provided Hunter Training and clothing and equipment. All hunters are accompanied by volunteer Mentors/Guides.

Our Branch, in cooperation with the Fort Bragg Wildlife Branch, would like to continue to be there for these families. We promote safe and ethical hunting, adherence to wildlife and trespass laws and hunter involvement in education and management programs. We are also involved in community outreach programs.

You may become a Bronze Sponsor for $250.00, a Silver Sponsor for $500.00 or a Gold Sponsor for $1000.00. Your Sponsorship will be acknowledged on the Banquet banner, brochures and web site. All contributions from your company are greatly appreciated.

I realize your organization must receive many requests for donations each year. The QDMA, Ft. Bragg Branch, would like to thank you in advance for considering our needs.

I can be reached at espears@embarqmail.com or by phone at (910) 261-7439. Please visit our web site for more information about QDMA and our W3P Program.

Thank you so much for your time!

Best Regards,

Eddie Spears

Branch President

www.qdmafortbragg.com
Tags: Hunting Helps Wounded Heroes Heal

DALLAS, TX --(AmmoLand.com)- For many seriously injured military veterans, sports and outdoor activities have been shown to be effective in helping them rebuild confidence and focus on their abilities to achieve. For that reason, in mid-March, Balfour Beatty Construction’s Dallas/Fort Worth division hosted a week-long pig hunt for wounded veterans at their hunting lease in Richland Springs, Texas.

“The ORHF hunts are huge for guys like me”

Balfour Beatty Construction employees labored before the event to prepare the site for the heroic hunters, including building ramps for the hunting cabin and special deer blinds to accommodate wheelchairs.

The event, organized through the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) Outdoor Recreation Heritage Fund (ORHF) with Balfour Beatty hunting lease partner Jack Hazel, also received additional support from other industry organizations. Savage Sports Corporation provided new guns for the hunters to test, and was represented by company CEO Ron Coburn; Crimson Trace Lasers contributed additional guns and laser sighting accessories and was represented by Travis Noteboom, Director of Public Relations; and Outdoor Life magazine Executive Editor John Snow was present to provide full coverage of the event.

Five wounded veterans participated in the hunt: PVA-ORHF Chairman, Joe Fox, a retired USMC Vietnam Veteran who hunts from a wheelchair; Dr. Stanley McGowan, a retired U.S. Army Captain, who served in Vietnam and is blind; quadriplegic SSG Matthew Keil, who is retired from the U.S. Army, who hunts using a power chair with a custom “sip and puff” setup to operate his rifle; former U.S. Army SP4 David Bradshaw, who also hunts from a chair; and retired USMC Corporal Jason Mikolajcik, who is recuperating from extensive burns and shrapnel wounds received from an IED explosion in Iraq.

For SSG Keil, this trip marked his first time away from home without his wife since receiving his wounds. “The ORHF hunts are huge for guys like me,” said SSG Keil. “It gets me back out into the world, doing things I liked to do before my injury. And it’s great to be around other vets and people who see the guy … not the chair.”

The vets brought down 36 pigs in just three days of hunting, five times more than the lease hunters took in the entire 2009 hunting season.

The PVA Outdoor Heritage Fund, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was established in 2001 to permanently support its many sports programs, including fishing, hand cycling and triathlon, track and field events, and recreational shooting, hunting, and fishing. Hunters who hadn’t already harvested a deer went back out for an afternoon hunt with four more deer being harvested that evening. One hunter, 10-year-old Heather Miller from Bigelow, didn’t harvest a deer the first day after her gun misfired. She was able to bag a deer the following morning.

The Arkansas Wildlife Officers Association and Crawford County Wild Turkey Federation donated money and prizes in support of this special hunt. The AWOA donated $500 and the Crawford County Wild Turkey Federation donated $100 and the special edition numbered NWTF box turkey call for every hunter. $150 of this money was given to a family for lodging and travel expenses. The remaining $450 was used to help pay for the gifts that were given to the hunters.

The ranch manager, his employee’s and volunteer’s donated and provided all the food for breakfast and lunch and also did all the cooking. class="wp-caption-text">West Virginia DNR

West Virginia --(AmmoLand.com)- Invited guests will join Governor Joe Manchin III and West Virginia Division of Natural Resources Director Frank Jezioro for a special event designed to draw attention to hunting opportunities in the Mountain State and to the Hunters Helping the Hungry program. WVDNR and the West Virginia Trophy Hunters Association are sponsoring the third annual “West Virginia Governor’s One Shot Whitetail Hunt” to be held December 6-7, 2009, at Stonewall Resort State Park near Roanoke in Lewis County, two miles off Interstate 79 at exit 91. Special guest for this event will be Brigadier General Charles E. “Chuck” Yeager, USAF, Retired, who is returning for the third year.

Participants will sight in their firearms at the Stonewall Wildlife Management Area on Sunday, Dec. 6, and the next day will be taken for guided hunts on private property near the park. The hunt will be for antlerless deer only, and the deer harvested at this event will be donated to the Hunters Helping the Hungry (HHH) program, with the venison to be distributed to needy families across the state. Awards for participants in the One Shot Whitetail Hunt will be presented during a banquet at Stonewall Resort State Park Monday evening.

This event began in 2007 when Gov. Manchin and other state governors participated in a One Shot Antelope event in Lander, Wyoming. He decided to bring that experience to West Virginia, where whitetail deer hunting opportunities are among the best in the East. In 2007 the event raised $17,000 and in 2008 it raised $35,000 for the Hunters Helping the Hungry program.

“This is an opportunity for our guests to learn about what West Virginia has to offer outdoor sportsmen, and also to help promote the worthy Hunters Helping the Hungry program that means so much to so many less fortunate West Virginians,” Manchin said.

The 2009 season marks the 18th consecutive year that WVDNR has sponsored the HHH program, which provides thousands of pounds of donated venison to hungry West Virginians each year. In addition to donated venison, the Hunters Helping the Hungry program is dependent entirely upon monetary donations. More information about HHH can be found at www.wvdnr.gov or by calling 304-558-2771.
Tags: Otis Technology Gun Care

LYONS FALLS, NY --(AmmoLand.com)- In August of 2009, Otis Technology made an announcement to their employees that they were once again expanding their facility. The family owned business acquired a nearby property that would meet additional staff parking needs as well as serve as the future home of an employee based training facility.

In deciding what to do with the current acquired building and its’ building material after destruction, Otis Board members met with MDS, Mennonite Disaster Service and found the perfect solution.

MDS is a volunteered network through which various constituencies of church can respond to those affected by disaster in Canada and the U.S. While the main focus of MDS is on clean up, repair and building homes, this activity becomes a means of touching lives and helping people regain faith.

This program is similar, to and at times works closely with, Catholic Charities, Red Cross and FEMA, Federal Emergency Medical Assistance. MDS Volunteers rebuild and refurbish homes and try to keep as much of the building materials and supplies such as insulation, roofing material, flooring and wood in the local community.

It is a passion and mission of Otis Technology to give back where it is needed most. Working with MDS is making it possible for Otis to not only give back, but to give back to many families and help the environment at the same time. Reusing and recycling products extends their lives and keeps them out of the waste stream longer and in this case, tons of solid waste was kept out of landfills. Reuse is a key component of waste reduction. The cost for one truckload of garbage alone is $2100. Also, recycling 1 ton of newspaper will save 17 trees.

Melvin Roes, the New York Unit Area Coordinator said, “We saved at least 6-8 truckloads of material from going into a landfill. This is at least 5 ton of waste! The materials from the house have already helped many local families and will help more along the way as we still have materials that will be used.”

Mennonite Disaster Services is also busy helping 300 families in Western New York that were effect by a flood and water damage late August.

Otis Technology has taken other actions in becoming a greener business. Recycled and biodegradable office material is used, community clean up day was held, and scrap metal and excess oil from machinery is reused. Earlier this year, numerous water bottles and the traditional disposable drinking cups were replaced with 10 gallon water jugs and reusable drinking cups.

For more information on Mennonite Disaster Services log onto www.mds.mennonite.net. Otis Technology is hoping future generations will be influenced by the actions we take today.

For more information on this Press Release or any products included in our release log onto otisgun.com or contact Cara Peebles: Marketing Coordinator, 315.348.4300 Ext: 2449

Otis Technology
Sportsman Channel

New Berlin, Wis. — -(AmmoLand.com)- The battle lines were drawn with a pink food collection bin for ladies and a blue bin for men.

They started a 24-day internal war to see who could fill the bins with the most weight in non-perishable food items. Sportsman Channel employees are familiar with helping local human services agencies and shelters year ‘round stock their shelves.

The network operates Hunt.Fish.Feed, a program that encourages hunters to donate their deer harvest to local shelters. In keeping with this mission of helping those less fortunate, the network’s employees wanted to assist a non-profit human services agency close to their heart in Milwaukee for Thanksgiving: St. Charles Youth and Family Services.

By noon on November 24, the war was over with men being the victors with a ONE POUND lead over the ladies. The final tally was men with 329 pounds, ladies with 328 pounds.

The battle was not without a few causalities. Once the teams realized only a few pounds separated them from ultimate victory, employees were cleaning out their desks – even giving up their lunches – just so they could claim a win for their team.

“It couldn’t have been any crazier in here this morning,” said Jake Thoele, Business Account Manager for Sportsman. “I unloaded my truck at eight o’clock with roughly 80 pounds of canned goods, once the ladies saw that, it was on!”

“I couldn’t believe people were giving up their lunches just so their team could gain the lead,” said Nicole Neeb, Executive Assistant for the network. “It just goes to show how the entire company embraces the idea of helping others; it’s not just a motto or words on paper.”

David Stolpe, Academic Program Manager for St. Charles Youth and Family Services, thanked Sportsman Channel employees for their considerate donation.

“It means a lot to have companies who are committed and dedicated not only to their business, but also to the community they are in. Milwaukee is certainly a place of great need, and I hope this will help make those families not only have a fuller belly this season, but also let them know that they are valued and cared for.”

Sportsman Channel challenges companies across America to beat their non-perishable food weight total and to wage their own contests internally.

“Why not have some fun with it?” said Thoele. “We all want to help out; you just need to make it easy and fun.”

St. Charles Youth and Family Services is a non-profit human services agency guided by Catholic principles. In its 89th year, St. Charles provides an array of prevention and intervention services for Wisconsin youth, adults, and families. class="wp-caption-text">FHFH.org

COLUMBUS, OH –-(AmmoLand.com)- With the opening day of Ohio’s deer-gun season on November 30, hunters are reminded that donating a deer is free at meat processors participating in the Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry (FHFH) venison donation program.

Participating meat processors can be found by visiting the FHFH page at www.fhfh.org.

Although venison donations are accepted any day during the deer hunting season, September 26 – February 7, 2010, Saturday, December 5 has been designated as FHFH Day. Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife Chief Dave Graham challenges all deer hunters to make this year special for Ohio’s hungry. Last year, hunters showed they cared by donating nearly 220,000 meals to Ohioans in need.

“I personally challenge Ohio’s hunters to double that number this year and to help us all to remember to make the donations. I’m going to label Saturday, December 5, as Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry Day,” said Chief Graham. “I will try to take a doe that day and I’ll donate it to the FHFH program.”

The FHFH Web site also allows people to donate cash that will supplement the funds being raised to help pay for processing the meat.

Over the last year, FHFH has more than doubled the number of chapters from 12 to 27, with the need for more. Anyone interested in becoming a local program coordinator or a participating meat processor should visit the “Local FHFH” page at www.fhfh.org. The Web page includes a current list of coordinators, program names, and the counties that they serve.

A $100,000 subsidy grant has been awarded to FHFH to help pay the processing fee on donated venison. The grant money is to be matched with funds generated or collected by FHFH. The Division is again subsidizing this year’s FHFH operation as an additional deer management tool, helping wildlife managers encourage hunters to kill more does.
Tags: <a

Manasquan, NJ --(AmmoLand.com)- Here is a nice update by Great American Outdoor Trail’s Radio Magazine on our friend and hero Tred Barta.
If you did not know Tred has a Spinal Stroke in the beginning of 2009 that has left him paralyzed from the waist down. It is great to hear his voice and to hear that he is pushing through this tragedy “the hard way..the Barta way”
Tred is famous for his outdoors television show The Best & Worst of Tred Barta on Versus Channel. Tred has worked hard in the past to raise $1,800,000 for children’s charities. Now one good turn deserves another.
Needles to say Tred has been out of work and has run up some staggering medical bills. Knowing Tred it must be very difficult to take any kind of charity but the man deserves our support. If you feel you would like to help Tred, his wife and kids out and pay down some of these bills his family has set up a fund for just that purpose.

class="wp-caption-text">Otis Technology Gun Care

LYONS FALLS, NY --(AmmoLand.com)- The 4th Annual Otis Invitational Golf Outing for Charity has proven that even in harsh economic times, generosity can flourish for those less fortunate.

Otis’ vendors and partners from all parts of the U.S., Otis employees, and dedicated local businesses came together recently at the Brantingham Golf Club, in Brantigham, NY to raise awareness and money for a local charity. This year, with the additional support of country music artist John Michael Montgomery Otis was able to present a check in the amount of $33,521.63 to the Community Action Angels program operated by Lewis County Opportunities.

Originally founded in 2001 in nearby Wyoming County, Community Action Angels is now used by many agencies for volunteer coordination and collection of material items to help meet the needs of low income and disadvantaged populations. Community Action Angels is a program founded on belief in the Circle of Giving philosophy. It is the conduit that brings neighbors living in poverty and families in crisis to the attention of people wanting to give back in return for blessings received.

Last year, the Community Action Angels program at Lewis County Opportunities collected and dispersed over $116,000 in monetary and material contributions. Most of the items or services delivered through this program are never found in typical grant applications.

Angel Action gives people help and hope while removing fear and degradation. When they are able, they continue the Circle of Giving by anxiously helping others as they were helped once before. Community Angel Action is meeting the needs of our friends and neighbors, and placing the seeds for the needy to become the needed. Over 569 total volunteer hours went into the preparation and planning of this event.

Otis Technology Inc. is the industry leader in firearms cleaning innovation. They design and manufacture a full range of premium gun cleaning systems and accessories for hunters, competition shooters, law enforcement and the U.S. Armed Forces. Even though Otis sells on a global scale, one of their key priorities is supporting their community. Otis does this is by generously giving back where it is needed most. It is Otis Technology’s way of saying Thank You to the community for their support. By Otis donating to and thanking the Lewis County Opportunities for helping those in need, it is truly the circle of giving. class="wp-caption-text">Pennsylvania Game Commission

HARRISBURG, PA --(AmmoLand.com)- Pennsylvania Game Commission Executive Director Carl G. Roe today announced that the agency is again participating in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves’ “Toys for Tots” program by opening the doors of the Game Commission’s Harrisburg headquarters to serve as a drop-off collection site.

The Game Commission’s office is at 2001 Elmerton Avenue in Susquehanna Township, just off of Progress Avenue. (For those using mapping devices, the mailing address is Harrisburg, PA 17110-9797.) Donations will be accepted until noon on Friday, Dec. 11, at which time all items will be taken to the USMC’s central collection facility for distribution to area children.

“The Pennsylvania Game Commission, past and present, has had many men and women serve in the United States armed forces, including the U.S. Marine Corps,” Roe said. “It is in their honor that we have decided to serve as a collection site for the Toys for Tots program.”

“We recognize at this time of year, it is important to share with those in need.

“Much like our hunters support programs to help feed their fellow Pennsylvanians through the Hunters Sharing the Harvest, we want to support a program that has been around for 60 years to make sure that disadvantaged children are not forgotten at Christmas time.

“And, as we will see hundreds of hunters come through our doors to purchase their licenses prior to the bear and deer seasons, we encourage them to consider bringing a toy to donate to deserving children.

“We also are surrounded by many other state agencies and private business along Elmerton Avenue and surrounding roads. We welcome them to stop by and drop off their donation.”

In addition to serving as a collection point for the program, for the third year, Roe announced that the agency was donating stuff black bears to the Toys for Tots program.

“Each of these 50 stuffed animals has a small tag with a bit of information about our black bears,” Roe said. “The black bear is just one of the more than 460 species of wild mammals and birds that the Pennsylvania Game Commission is responsible for managing. We hope that these stuffed animals will provide those who receive them some joy this season, as well as help them learn about this important part of Pennsylvania’s wildlife community.”

Tags: <a

The event raised more than $255,000 to benefit outreach programs for underprivileged youth in South Florida and the Boy Scouts’ Camp Seminole in Davie, Florida.

More than 200 guests and 44 teams participated in the event’s sporting clays tournament at Florida’s premiere Sporting Clays facility, Quail Creek Plantation. Event sponsors and guests, such as Taurus International Manufacturing, the National Rifle Association and the National Shooting Sports Foundation, enjoyed a special barbecue and reception on the first evening, followed by a competition the next day. The event concluded with a silent and live auction.

“The programs of the Boy Scouts of America are essential to shaping the lives of young people in a positive way, something that is very important to the future of this great nation,” said Bob Morrison, President and CEO of Taurus International Manufacturing and the Sporting Clays Invitational Chairman. “It has been an honor to help get this event started and use our contacts and resources to raise the needed dollars to keep Scouting strong and growing for the South Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America.”

The Sporting Clays Invitational proceeds will benefit more than 3,000 youth in rural and inner-city areas who would otherwise not have access to Scouting programs. The outreach programs will contribute to the healthy development of these young people by providing them the environment they need to grow and learn, as well as teaching them essential life skills, leadership skills, values and character education. In addition, it will provide them more opportunities to participate in outdoor experiences, such as camping, survival courses and shooting sports.

South Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America is a non-profit organization serving more than 72,000 youth and families in Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. Celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2010, the Boy Scouts of America is the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and value-based leadership training. class="wp-caption-text">Ohio Department Natural Resources

COLUMBUS, OH --(AmmoLand.com)- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife in collaboration with Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry (FHFH) announce the Chief’s Challenge to fight hunger.

ODNR Division of Wildlife Chief Dave Graham challenges all deer hunters to make this year special for Ohio’s hungry. Last year, hunters showed they cared by donating nearly 220,000 meals to Ohioans in need.

“I personally challenge Ohio’s hunters to double that number this year and to help us all to remember to make the donations. I’m going to label Saturday, December 5, as Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry Day,” said Dave Graham, chief of the ODNR Division of Wildlife. “I will try to take a doe that day and I’ll donate it to the FHFH program.”

Hunters do not have to wait until December 5 to donate a deer. Hunters throughout the state can purchase and use an antlerless deer permit until November 29 for $15. And hunters in Zone C can use antlerless permits until December 6. Venison donations will be accepted throughout the entire Ohio deer hunting season, September 26 through February 7, 2010.

“This is an economical way to provide meals to people in need,” added Graham. “By using a processor in the FHFH program, you can donate the deer and not have the cost of processing it. Join me on FHFH Day and throughout the season and take the extra step to help offset hunger felt by Ohioans.”

The Web page includes a current list of coordinators, program names and the counties that they serve.

About:<br
