title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Judge Sue Myerscough, a federal judge in the U.S. District Court, Central District of Illinois, Springfield Division, has granted IL Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s motion to dismiss the Second Amendment Foundation’s challenge of the statewide ban on carrying a firearm for personal protection.

On Friday, Feb. 4th, 2012, Judge Myerscough stated in her opinion:

“This Court finds that the Illinois “Unlawful Use of Weapons” and “Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon” statutes do not violate Plaintiffs’ Second Amendment rights. The United States Supreme Court and the Seventh Circuit have recognized only a Second Amendment core individual right to bear arms inside the home.”

SAF Attorney David Jensen immediately filed an appeal on behalf of the plaintiffs Michael Moore, Charles Hooks, Peggy Fechter, Jon Maier, Second Amendment Foundation, Inc., and Illinois Carry. The appeal will move the case to the U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.

In response to the judge’s ruling Alan Gottlieb, SAF Executive Director, made this statement, “We look forward to winning this important case on appeal even if it means going back to the United States Supreme Court for a third time. The Second Amendment does NOT say, the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed except outside your home or that it only applies inside your house. We don’t check our constitutional rights at the front door.”

To follow the progress of the Moore VS Madigan challenge to the ban on Right to Carry in Illinois, go to IllinoisCarry.com.

About:
The IllinoisCarry forum was started in April 2004. The idea was that Illinois needed a central location to communicate ideas and information regarding 2nd Amendment issues in Illinois. There are many organizations in Illinois working to protect our 2nd Amendment Rights. Working with these groups IllinoisCarry has become the central location for information and Action Alerts. IllinoisCarry will not endorse political candidates. We simply provide information so voters can make informed decisions. Our goal is to join the other 48 states that allow their citizens to carry concealed firearms. We encourage you to register on our forum and join the fight for your 2nd Amendment Rights in Illinois. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Springtac Holsters arrives on the scene with a truly commonsense approach to an age old problem.

Until now, if someone wanted to conceal carry a weapon with a laser sight, or tac light attached, well, they were very limited indeed.

Springtac Holster has created a holster that concentrates its holding power on the weapons slide.

The slide width is about the only relatively consistent dimension on like sized weapons. With their, design multiple stainless steel springs, which are independently adjustable and sandwiched between top grain cowhide leather, allow the bottom of the holster to be open.

That feature provides incredible flexibility to accommodate almost all combinations of commonsense carry weapons and accessories of the same size class. There are 3 models to choose from which cover many, many weapon sizes. All Springtac Holsters are ambidextrous carry designed to be worn inside the waist band or under the belt for maximum security and comfort.

Standard sizes fit most service style weapons (Cop guns) Think Glock, Springfield XD & XDM, Sig, FNH, Taurus, and the list goes on. In the Standard series you also have an option for compacts, and full size weapons with a 3” and a 5” version.

Mini’s cover the popular down sized 9mm family such as the Ruger LC9 Pocket Mini’s cover most of those great pocket 380’s such as Ruger LCP Springtac Holsters design is so promising that LaserMax has recently adopted them as their go to holster for their customers that call them inquiring about a holster for their newly released Centerfire Series laser sight for Ruger’s LC9, and LCP

Consider the ability to conceal carry a laser sighted weapon, a holster that fits almost all your weapons with sights or lights, top grain leather, adjustability, a warranty the guarantees customer satisfaction, and you will find it hard to not notice Springtac Holster.

Visit them and Ammoland.com)- After several recent college campus shooting incidents, many states are opening up their legislative agenda to the idea allowing students to carry guns on campus.

Utah is the only state that currently allows concealed carry at all public colleges and universities. Other than that, there is a mix between states that prohibit concealed carry on college campuses and states that leave the decision up to the college or university.

There’s a lot of talk about this issue, with many people “up in arms” about the possibility of a college student having the right to carry a gun to school. Even some gun rights advocacy groups are against this idea. Even I questioned the proposal at first thought, but I now see things in a new light.

It is ridiculous for anyone to believe that allowing students to carry concealed weapons on campus will change anything. This legislation won’t “open up” campuses to guns; campuses are already open to guns! If they weren’t, the gunmen of the past campus shooting incidents would not have been able to accomplish their attacks.

Although it may not be legal, it is easy to carry a concealed weapon on campus today.

Yes, this legislation will increase the amount of guns carried on campus, but it will increase the amount of legal and safe guns carried on campus. Right now, the only guns on campus are those carried by authorized university law enforcement and security and those carried by bad people looking to do bad things. Those students who have a concealed handgun license refrain from carrying their guns on campus, because they know they could be expelled or arrested.

In the event of a campus shooting, university law enforcement and security may not have enough coverage to stop an attack from a rogue gunman, but they are rarely present in classrooms and hallways where attacks often seem to occur. If students who are licensed to carry a firearm were allowed to bring their weapon to school, they could provide protection for themselves and those around them in the event of a school attack.

Although I do believe that students should be allowed to carry a gun on campus, I do think there should be a system in place to log which students have a gun license and choose to carry on campus and which students do not choose to carry on campus or do not have a gun license. This could be registered when the student goes to get his/her student identification badge. Campuses should then verify the student’s concealed handgun license and require them to attend a one-day conference to train them on how to react during a potential campus attack. Requiring this training will solidify their responsibility of carrying a weapon on campus.

Because many college campuses are open to the public, it is imperative that we give students the right to protect themselves and their peers. One of the pleasant experiences of the evening I mentioned:

“I’d also like to give a quick shout out to Sandy Berardi of Gun For Hire Radio. He sent an email out on the 16th to Fialkowski and me announcing the archiving of our interview and relating a scary story:

“Sorry for the short notice guys. We had another show planned for tonight, but it never took place. I actually suffered a home invasion on Friday evening and could not leave my home on Saturday to do the remote broadcast we had planned. My wife Diane actually walked into the house as scumbags were ripping my gun safe out of the wall and they fled– thank God, leaving her unharmed– but rattled. No guns were taken. Anyway, hence the short notice on the airing of the episode. Send your stories directly to GRNC president Paul Valone at president@GRNC.org.

Mike Luo’s Crusade
Following an extensive interview between GRNC president Paul Valone and New York Times reporter Mike Luo, the Times is now trying to depict North Carolina’s population of concealed handgun permit-holders as rife with felons. To support his claims, Luo relies on flawed methodology, misuse of anecdotal data, and selectively ignored facts he learned during the interview. The current piece is at least the third time Luo has written biased and misleading articles on gun ownership.

Biased Anti-Gun NY Times Reporter Mike Luo

Figures lie…
Although Luo claims to have done data-matching between criminal databases and permit-holders, he admitted confirming only a dozen matches with the NC State Bureau of Investigation.

Data matching between large databases is subject to high rates of “false positives” depending on the number and type of parameters matched.

To quote one data mining whiz: “The problem is that if you’re trying to search a couple of large data sets for something that occurs infrequently, the number of true hits (if any) is likely to be far less than the number of false positives.”

…and liars figure
When asked whether Luo would confirm all matches with the SBI, or whether he would do statistical analysis of his data, determining what percentage of North Carolina permit-holders commit crimes, or whether he would simply provide misleading anecdotal examples as he did on a November 13, 2011 piece on restoration of gun rights for felons, Luo refused to answer.

How Luo creates a false impression
The plural of “anecdote” is not “data”: By pulling a small number of anecdotes rather than verifying all of the data, Luo hopes to paint a false portrait of NC concealed handgun permit-holders as criminals.

Selective data: Luo has a reputation among researchers for cherry-picking research to support his assertions, and for failing to disclose the gun-related leanings of researchers he cites.

The Charlotte Observer fell over itself to propagate Luo’s deceptive story

The Charlotte Observer ran this insult to their gun-owning readership as front page news!

GRNC president Paul Valone responds

“What The New York Times recently published is a biased ‘hit piece’ designed to undermine the unerringly successful expansion of concealed carry laws. By cherry-picking anecdotes from error-prone data matching, reporter Michael Luo creates a false impression of widespread abuse by concealed handgun permit-holders. Luo admits not bothering to confirm more than a handful of the matches found, so given the small data set used, the number of “false positives” may well exceed the number of accurate matches.

“Even Luo’s claim of 2,400 crimes by permit-holders – which includes DUI convictions and relatively minor misdemeanors – represents only a tiny fraction (0.6%) of the 395,251 concealed handgun permits approved since 1995. Moreover, data from other states reveals that few permit revocations result from misuse of firearms.

“As Luo was told during the interview (but chose to ignore), when Grass Roots North Carolina helped draft the state’s concealed handgun law in 1995, we gave law enforcement officials the tools for permit revocations by attaching concealed handgun permit information to the state drivers’ license database. Any concealed handgun permit-holder arrested for a crime would be immediately identified as such.

“Furthermore, nothing in the law prevents the North Carolina Department of Justice from doing checks on permit-holders to ensure they remain in compliance with the law, nor would we oppose such an effort. If the state fails to avail themselves of those tools, the problem lies not within the concealed handgun law, but instead within its enforcement.”

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED:

Leave Website Comments: Leave comments on both the New York Times and Charlotte Observer websites

NYT:http://tiny.cc/t9wpo

Charlotte Observer: http://tiny.cc/uhq04

Use Paul Valone’s response to guide your comments

Write Letters to the Editor

Write letters to the Editor of both newspapers

You can submit a letter to the Charlotte Observer here: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2008/08/05/108022/write-the-forum.html

You can submit a letter to the New York Times here: http://www.nytimes.com/content/help/site/editorial/letters/letters.html

Use the suggested text below to guide your letters.

Deliver This Message

Dear Editor,

I was very disappointed by Mike Luo’s one-sided and flagrantly misleading article that you recently and irresponsibly published. This article was an affront to millions of law-abiding North Carolinian gun owners.

It is telling that Luo claims to provide a “detailed look” at concealed carry in our state, but doesn’t bother to go even to the minimal extent of comparing handgun permittees to the NC population at large.

If he had been interested in the truth he would have learned, and could have responsibly communicated to your readers, that North Carolinians with concealed handgun permits are orders of magnitude less likely to be convicted of crime than is the general population.

According to Luo’s own numbers, out of 240,000 permittees only 2400 were convicted of felonies and misdemeanors over the last five years. This is a rate of 1 % in five years, or 0.2 % per year. For NC in general from 2005 to 2010 (the latest information available from DOJ) there was a yearly average of 5333 felonies (not including misdemeanors) committed per 100,000 in population, a rate of 5.3 % per year.

Luo’s type of politically-motivated yellow journalism has become all too common. Shame on you for participating in his disservice to your readers, and for delivering his insult to hundreds of thousands of law-abiding NC concealed handgun permittees.

About:
California Rifle and Pistol Association

Sacramento, CA --(Ammoland.com)-In a victory for self-defense civil right activists, a Los Angeles Superior Court Judge has ordered the City of Los Angeles to produce documents relating to the LAPD’s policies and procedures for processing applications for a carry license.

In 1992 and 1994, the City’s unlawful refusal to properly process carry license applications was challenged in two lawsuits. To settle the suits, LAPD agreed to a court ordered application processing procedure.

The LAPD agreed to a definition of “good cause” that was articulated in the settlement, and agreed that all citizens who request a carry license permit application would be provided a carry license application at any LAPD station house, along with a copy of the LAPD’s procedure for handling the application, and the procedures for appealing the denial of a carry license application. The settlements also resulted in the establishment of a Citizens Advisory Review Panel, made up of appointed citizens who would review carry license applications denied by the LAPD and make recommendations regarding whether the Chief should reverse the denial.

A memorandum discussing these suits is posted here.

The LAPD has repeatedly failed to honor its legal obligations under the settlements. It has not made carry license applications and a written copy of the carry license policy and appeal process available at all station houses. And it has ignored the recommendations of the Citizens Advisory Review Panel and has instead enacted a de facto policy of again issuing no carry licenses, despite whatever showing of good cause the applicants might make.

To rectify this situation two new legal actions, financed by NRA and CRPAF through their Legal Action Project, were filed.

The first is a motion to enforce the court’s old order in the 1994 case, Assenza v. City of Los Angeles. Some of the original plaintiffs from that Assenza case seek to force the LAPD to reinstate its agreed-to policy of providing applications and copies of its written policy at all LAPD station houses. In support of its motion, NRA grassroots activist citizens were recruited to investigate the LAPD’s practices and submitted declarations about their recent attempts to get carry license applications. They were frustrated by uncooperative officers at individual station houses, all of whom had a complete lack of understanding of the LAPD’s application process, and who in almost all instances could not provide a carry license application to the requesting citizen, much less a copy of the LAPD’s written policy.

Perhaps most egregiously, LAPD officers bluntly told citizens that unless they were celebrities, they shouldn’t even bother filling out the carry license application because they would be denied a carry license as a matter of LAPD policy.

The second recent legal action is a new lawsuit, Davis v. City of Los Angeles. The nine plaintiffs in this new lawsuit, some of whom have had carry license applications pending and unresolved with the LAPD for years, have been subjected to a litany of abuses by LAPD in its handling of their carry license applications relating to LAPD’s continued failure to comply with the original Assenza judgment. These abuses include not only the failures to provide applications and copies of the written policies at LAPD station houses, but also refusals to timely consider their applications, failures to respond to inquiries regarding the status of applications, failures to acknowledge the availability of the Citizens Advisory Review Panel as a method of appealing denial, and failure to give any weight to recommendations by the Citizens Advisory Review Panel.

As part of the Davis lawsuit, NRA/CRPA sought documents relating to the Chief Charlie Beck’s review of the recommendations of the Citizens Advisory Review Panel, documents showing any evaluation, assessment, and decisions about the positive recommendations of the Citizens Advisory Review Panel, and documents relating to the current City and County of LA residents with active carry license licenses issued by Chief Charlie Beck. The City refused to turn them over. So the Court was asked to intervene.

In ordering the City to produce the documents, the Court noted that the City’s attempt to justify its refusal to turn them over consisted of mere “boilerplate objections,” some of which were not made “in good faith.”

We’ll keep you posted as the case develops…

Seventeen years ago the NRA and CRPA joined forces to fight local gun bans being written and pushed in California by the gun ban lobby. Their coordinated efforts became the NRA/CRPA “Local Ordinance Project” (LOP) – a statewide campaign to fight ill-conceived local efforts at gun control and educate politicians about available programs that are effective in reducing accidents and violence without infringing on the rights of law-abiding gun owners. The NRA/CRPA LOP has had tremendous success in beating back most of these anti-self-defense proposals.

In addition to fighting local gun bans, for decades the NRA has been litigating dozens of cases in California courts to promote the right to self-defense and the Second Amendment. In the post Heller and McDonald legal environment, NRA and CRPA Foundation have formed the NRA/CRPA Foundation Legal Action Project (LAP), a joint venture to pro-actively strike down ill-conceived gun control laws and ordinances and advance the rights of firearms owners, specifically in California. Sometimes, success is more likely when LAP’s litigation efforts are kept low profile, so the details of every lawsuit are not always released. To see a partial list of the LAP’s recent accomplishments, or to contribute to the NRA or to the NRA/CRPAF LAP and support this and similar Second Amendment cases, visit www.nraila.com and www.crpafoundation.org.

About:
Wisconsin Carry

Wisconsin --(Ammoland.com)- Wisconsin Carry, Inc. firmly believes in, and advocated for constitutional carry this past legislative session.

While we were successful in putting constitutional carry front and center on the legislative and media radar, ultimately, Wisconsin’s concealed carry law that passed requires mandatory proof of training to be supplied with your application to the DOJ.

A hunters education certificate serves as proof of training as does your DD214 showing honorable discharge from the military. In addition, a concealed carry permit (current or expired) from another state will also serve as proof of training.

Wisconsin Carry believes that there are thousands of Wisconsin residents who have extensive firearms experience but because that experience was gathered through family/friends/self-teaching etc they may not have the formal proof of training certificate.

We are also concerned that for many people in this economy, paying $80 to $150 for a training class may be prohibitive and prevent some individuals from being able to obtain the proof of training certificate they need to apply for their concealed weapon license.

Lastly, Wisconsin Carry believes that there are many people that may not have experience with firearms but who have a great interest in taking personal accountability for the safety of themselves and their loved ones. Wisconsin Carry would like to give these people an avenue to enter the right-to-carry movement in Wisconsin as well. We believe that the more law-abiding citizens carrying for self-defense, the more people who will be there to stand up and push-back should future legislatures try to take the right to carry away. We also believe that every law abiding citizen we can bring into the carry movement will be another voter who will not want to pay the renewal tax every 5 years to continue to exercise a human-right to self-defense that they have enjoyed. We believe these people will stand with us to demand constitutional carry from the legislature in the future.

In consideration of these factors and objectives, Wisconsin Carry has devoted a huge amount of resources into developing a 4 hour training course that will exceed the “proof of training” requirements of Act 35. We have certified a handful of qualified instructors across the state to begin to teach this class FREE OF CHARGE to members AND non-members who would like to obtain their concealed carry permit but are encumbered because they do not have a “proof of training” certificate.

We have already begun to schedule and conduct these classes across the state. Initial classes we have scheduled on a limited basis and announced only to dues paying members to ramp up slowly and manage the demand.

I will be sending email notification around of all classes that have openings. (<a

Please do not contact me with questions about possible future classes in different parts of the state. AS SOON AS we have a class together, I will send a notice around. If you contact me to ask, I won’t have any information to share because nothing would have been set (except for those which announcements have been made)

Please *DO* contact me if you have a venue that would have space available at no cost to WCI to HOST a class.

If this class below is not in your area, please STAY TUNED, we will have many many more FREE classes across the state in the upcoming months.

WCI FREE training class: Amberg, WI – Marinette, County

Amberg Community Center,
Wisconsin Carry, Inc. is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the preservation and reclamation of the rights of law-abiding Wisconsin residents to carry in the manner of their choosing. We believe that “open carry” and “concealed carry” are choices to be made by law-abiding citizens based on their situation and preference. Wisconsin Carry, like many gun-rights organizations in Wisconsin, is investing a great deal of resources to get Wisconsin law changed to allow concealed carry this next legislative session by proposing Constitutional Carry. Wisconsin Carry, Inc. will continue to use legal recourse to deter unlawful treatment of law-abiding Wisconsin residents who currently exercise their right to open carry, and soon will exercise their right to concealed carry in Wisconsin. He slowly walked down the middle of the street while shooting into passing cars. He did not feel the need to seek cover. And he had good reason to be confident, because the odds of encountering a peaceably armed citizen in any major metropolitan area in California favor those armed with criminal intent. That’s because California is a “may issue” state, where the urban police establishment is notorious for exercising the “may not” option—for the unconnected.

Virginia --(Ammoland.com)- A routine traffic stop at Virginia Tech turned deadly.

A police officer conducting the stop as well as a second individual were shot and killed, apparently by the same assailant. At this time (4pm ET), the status of the assailant is unknown and Virginia Tech remains on lockdown. [It is now known that the Second victim was the initial shooter]

Students for Concealed Carry offer our condolences the victims, and deepest hopes that the suspect(s) responsible be brought to justice.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family of the officer killed at Virginia Tech,” states Thomas Burge, Texas Director of Students for Concealed Carry.

“It is sad and unfortunate that this occurred and even worse that it is not the first time on this campus. The VA Tech campus is a “Gun-Free” zone, but these zones are proven to be guns free for law abiding citizens only. This is a terrible reminder that we must have the ability to protect ourselves on campuses as much as we do in and outside our homes…”

SCC also sadly recognizes this incident proves yet again that nothing has changed at Virginia Tech. The college still entertain delusional beliefs that signs and stickers will prevent illegal weapons on campus, even as they protest paying fines for their failing to notify students of the initial murders preceding the worst shooting spree in history three years ago.

According to Students for Concealed Carry at Texas A&M University, “This incident continues to prove that campuses are not crime free. The same crime that happens everywhere else in the United States can happen just as easily and just as suddenly on a college campus. Yet, college campuses remain one of the last areas that law abiding adults with a valid concealed carry permit cannot carry a firearm for self-defense. This leave our campus students and faculty tragically defense free against the same crime that anywhere else we might be able to defend ourselves. This latest event shows evil people still exist in the world and all the laws in the world will not stop them from committing violent crime. Guns are not the solution to every problem, but they are a solution to some problems – a solution completely ruled out by college campuses in Virginia and most campuses nationwide.”

With licensed campus carry now a successful policy at over two hundred campuses in six states without incident, it is time for Virginia Tech and colleges nationwide to end the ban on campus self-defense.

In contrast, a sign saying an area is a “gun free zone” is a dangerous and deadly fiction.

Tags: Eric at the Gunmart Blog

United States --(Ammoland.com)- Its always interesting to take a look back at the firearms industry and see which guns and gear have carved out the path things have taken over the years.

It wasn’t too long ago that the mere idea of mounting lights and lasers to firearms was an almost inconceivable notion…

Once people did start mounting weapons with lights and lasers it was almost comical. Duct taping a Maglite to your rifle was pretty much the best option you had available.

Fast forward to today’s time and you are hard pressed to find a firearm that can’t be equipped with a laser or light option, and Crimson Trace is one of the primary reasons why that is the case. It pretty much goes without saying that Crimson Trace has had a huge impact on the gun industry over their relatively short 17 years of existence.

They have changed the way we view personal defense and tactical firearms as well as the training and tactics that goes along with it. They have changed the way manufacturers design their guns and how they are marketed to the public, and law enforcement… and now they have just launched a product to the marketplace that I believe will once again be a game changer. I think that very shortly down the road we are going to see that the Crimson Trace Lightguard is going to do for handgun mounted lights what their innovative approach to lasers has done for handgun mounted lasers.

Stealing the same means of intuitive activation from their extremely successful Laserguard line of products, their new Lightguard allows you to cast a 100 Lumen light at your target just by gripping the gun. Its that simple. The greatness of the design is really all about its simplicity of operation. There are no switches to toggle, no dials to turn, no modes of operation to cycle through, nothing complicated at all. Just grip the gun firmly and the light is on. The 100 Lumens of light that it provides is more than enough to light up any area that would be considered realistic handgun distance. It is also concentrated and bright enough to temporarily inhibit a bad guy’s vision at close range.

The other amazing aspect of this new design is its size. Comparatively speaking… its tiny. Weighing in at an inconsequential 1.4 oz on my postal scale, this thing doesn’t even feel like it is even there. Overall length of the entire unit is approximately 4 1/2 inches, it is 1 1/2 inches in height and just a hair over one inch in width. It doesn’t get any more perfect than that, does it? And when you throw in the fact that it contains a flashlight that puts out 100 Lumens of light, it really begins to boggle the mind.

Its because of its diminutive size that I think the Crimson Trace Lightguard is a real game changer. Now civilians have an amazing option for a concealed carry handgun light that can actually be concealed easily. Couple this light with a Crimson Trace Lasergrip and you have one heck of a setup. I am also of the opinion that the Lightguard works out to be the perfect weapon light for a nightstand gun, and it is also something that is going to greatly appeal to the law enforcement community as well. I don’t think it will ever completely negate the need for a primary handheld light in every situation, but there are many specific applications where it could work very well as a “one and only” light.

Installation of the Lightguard is simple and straight forward. Snap the two polymer sections together around the trigger guard and then tighten the hex bolts with the supplied wrench and you are good to go. You will also notice from the pictures, that it works just fine on first gen guns like mine that do not have a light rail. Changing the one CR2 lithium battery is as quick and easy as unscrewing the hex bolts and disconnecting the two sections of the unit.

Performance at the range was everything that you would expect it to be with a product from Crimson Trace. I have no problems to report from the two separate shake downs which I have put it through. There is also no noticeable difference in the way the unit makes the gun feel and handle during live fire. Aside from the activation button on the grip, the light doesn’t even feel like it is there. Overall, it just makes for a spectacular addition for low-light shooting. Its also amazingly casts enough residual light around the gun itself that you can easily get a full sight picture even in complete darkness – impressive!

Yes, things have come a long way over the years with regards to weapon mounted lights and lasers…. and Crimson Trace just upped the ante again with the release of their new Lightguard. Once again they have proven why they are the premier name in weapon mounted lights and lasers, and they have again shown themselves to be true innovators that are dictating where the gun industry will be going in the years to come. So if you are looking for a powerful light to put on your pistol, then go on over to the Crimson Trace website and check out this new product. Its a design that is wonderfully thought out and very well executed to the exacting standards that only Crimson Trace can attain.

*Wisconsin Carry

Wisconsin --(Ammoland.com)- With Wisconsin’s new concealed carry law going into effect there has been a proliferation of speculation about the consequences of having law-abiding citizens carrying concealed weapons.

Ironically, one day after Act 35 went into effect, a Milwaukee police officer negligently discharges his weapon in Southridge mall on Wednesday.

http://www.fox6now.com/news/witi-20111103-cop-fires-gun-southridge,0,5018946.story

As an organization that promotes safe carry in the manner of a law-abiding citizens choosing, we find it concerning that both the GreenDALE Police Chief, and Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn refer to the incident as a “freak accident” and an “complete accident” respectively.

Carry of a gun tucked in the waistband *without* a holster aka “Plaxico Burress” style is no accident, and is not a safe way to carry a handgun. Its unfortunate that with all the purported training that we often hear that police officers obtain with regard to firearms that both Police Chiefs do not take the opportunity to use this as a teachable moment.

Handguns should be carried in holsters. Carry in a holster prevents negligent discharge. The gun-accessory marketplace has thousands of options for holsters for open carry, concealed carry, inside the waistband, outside the waistband, and dozens of other carry options. When a firearm is carried in the waistband, and subsequently discharged unintentionally that is not an accident, but rather negligence.

Negligent discharge of a firearms is a violation of the law. It is unfortunate that in this case, a police officer that should be held to a HIGHER standard is unfortunately given a “free pass” when he could have very easily injured or killed someone with his negligent (not accidental) behavior. Thousands of our members have researched and obtained holsters that serve their style of carry over the last several years. We are confident that as large numbers of Wisconsin residents apply for and begin to exercise their human and constitutional right to self-defense under Wisconsin’s new concealed carry law they will not follow the example set by this Milwaukee Police Officer and instead visit their local gun store to research the variety of holsters available for conceal or open carry which will prevent negligent discharges like this Milwaukee Police officer’s from happening.

We also hope that law enforcement would not give a “free pass” to a violation of law and cite this officer for negligent discharge of a firearm as an example to all that failure to take personal responsibility and carry in a safe manner will have legal consequences.

Carry On,

Nik Clark Chairman – Wisconsin Carry, Inc.
His web blog My Gun Culture is an irreverent, twisted look at gun news bordering on the ridiculous. It covers shootin’ stuff, loud noises, defending your own, the occasional mall ninja, and about 200 years of the American way. These are the (partially) true stories of My Gun Culture says Tom. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Wisconsin Firearm Owners, Ranges, Clubs, and Educators (Wisconsin FORCE) applauds the Department of Administration (DOA) for its decision on concealed carry within public buildings.

The decision, announced earlier today, will allow concealed carry permit holders to lawfully carry in many public buildings including most of the state capitol building, accurately following the legislative intent of Act 35. Existing federal and state law specifies some locations where concealed carry will not be allowed and this decision does not affect them. These include police stations, court houses, mental health facilities, probation and parole offices, and more.

“Concealed carry is a right we’ve spent years fighting for here in Wisconsin,” said Wisconsin FORCE president Jeff Nass. “Several other states have similar policies regarding public buildings and we’re very pleased to see Wisconsin following suit.”

“Law-abiding permit holders are viewed in the majority of states as posing no threat while they are carrying – whether inside a building or not. In fact, if permit holders were to be prohibited from carrying inside a public building they would obey the law, while those willing to misuse firearms would ignore the law anyway.”

Concealed carry permits can be applied for starting Tuesday, November 1st. Permits will be available to applicants 21 and older who pass a background check and have proof of firearm training. A basic firearm safety course is required. Qualifying courses include hunter safety, courses certified by national and state organizations, U.S. Military training, law enforcement training, or photo copy of a current or expired license to carry a firearm.

As an advocate of civil rights, Wisconsin FORCE worked very closely with The Wisconsin Hunters Rights Coalition and the National Rifle Association to insure all Wisconsinites had access to the lawful use of firearms for self-defense.

For more information please contact: Jeff Nass at 920.687.0505

About:
Ammoland.com)- As the 2011 legislative session progresses, legislators are once again continuing their efforts to guarantee a person’s right to self-defense within the state.

Following in the same vein as the Personal Protection Act, the state House and Senate versions of “Castle Doctrine” self-defense legislation are expected to receive a full vote in their respective chambers early next week.

Also of note is the Department of Administration’s recent efforts to establish a policy which would allow permit holder to carry in the state capital for self-defense.

Wisconsin Assembly Bill 69 and Senate Bill 79 commonly known as the “Castle Doctrine,” would provide essential protections for law abiding citizens who defend themselves and their families from a criminal looking to do them harm. “Castle Doctrine” establishes the presumption that an individual who forcibly enters ones home, business or occupied motor vehicle is there to cause death or great bodily harm, and allows force, including deadly force, against that person.

This bill also eliminates any “duty to retreat” so that law abiding citizens no longer must turn their back on a criminal and try to run when attacked. Finally, AB 69 and SB 79 would provide that any person who uses force authorized by law shall not be prosecuted for using such force. It also prohibits criminals and their families from suing victims for injuring or killing the criminals who have attacked them. In short, it gives rights back to law-abiding people and forces judges and prosecutors to focus on protecting victims.

NRA supports this bill and the amendment to be offered by Assembly Majority Leader Scott Suder (R-69) that would ensure those not covered under the areas protected by “Castle Doctrine” will continue to have the same protections they do today under current law.

Please contact your state Representative and Senator and respectfully urge ask them to support AB 69 and SB 79 along with the Suder amendment.

DOA sets policy on Concealed Carry!
With the new Personal Protection Act becoming law, effective November 1, the Wisconsin Department of Administration (DOA) has devised a policy which would allow Concealed Carry Permit holders to lawfully carry concealed in the state Capitol and other public buildings (which have yet to be determined). In light of several protests during the legislative session this year and years past, legislators have felt unsafe thanks to threatening e-mails and phone calls. The DOA’s new policy would allow citizens, legislators and staff to lawfully carry concealed in most parts of the Capitol. Under the DOA rules individual legislators will be able to post their offices if they choose and the Senate and Assembly have the ability to set rules for their chambers and proceedings. A number of legislators have already voiced their support for this policy and we expect many more to follow.

Please contact DOA and thank Secretary Mike Huebsch for supporting Wisconsin citizen’s right to defend themselves while visiting the Capitol. You may contact The Wisconsin Department of Administration at doaweb@doa.state.wi.us.

About:
Students for Concealed Carry on Campus

MONMOUTH --(Ammoland.com)- A state Court of Appeals has overruled an Oregon University System prohibition on carry of firearms.

The suit was brought by the Oregon Firearms Federation(OFF) after student Jeff Maxwell, a US Marine, was arrested for carrying a small derringer on campus. All charges were dropped, but Maxwell was suspended from the college for violating its rule against firearms.

The OFF then filed a lawsuit on behalf of Mr. Maxwell. (Maxwell was not a party to the suit due to a rule stating anyone involved in litigious action could not be involved in a dispute regarding the policy.)

Two years later, the Oregon Court of Appeals returned its verdict, stating that:

“[The college's policy] is an exercise of an “authority to regulate” firearms that is not expressly authorized by the Legislative Assembly, and that it is preempted by ORS 166.170. Accordingly, the rule exceeds the agency’s authority, ORS 183.400 and is invalid.”

Although the ruling overturns campus bans on carry, the court ruled only on grounds of institutional authority, not Second Amendment or state preemption.

Oregon Revised Statute ORS 166-170 states that “the authority to regulate in any matter whatsoever the sale, acquisition, transfer, ownership, possession, storage, transportation or use of firearms or any element relating to firearms and components thereof, including ammunition, is vested solely in the Legislative Assembly.”

The Oregon University System comprises seven public universities, including the University of Oregon, Western Oregon University, Oregon Institute of Technology, Eastern Oregon University, Southern Oregon University, Portland State University and Oregon State University. In a statement of response, OUS stated they were “disappointed” with the ruling and would consider their options.

“Students for Concealed Carry is obviously pleased with the court’s decision,” said David Burnett, a spokesman for SCC. “It’s ridiculous that a United States Marine trained to defend America’s freedom with an M-16 on the streets of Fallujah can be suspended for carrying a tiny little pistol on campus. Colleges nationwide consistently fail to protect campus populations, yet flagrantly ban the fundamental right of citizens to protect themselves. We’re happy with the ruling, and we look forward to similar victories in the near-future.”

In July, Virginia Attorney-General Ken Cuccinelli ruled that blanket university gun bans are invalid, and on November 1, campus carry external to college buildings will become legal in Wisconsin.

ABOUT:
Students for Concealed Carry is a national, non-partisan, grassroots organization comprising over 40,000 college students, professors, employees, parents and concerned citizens who believe that licensed concealed carry permit holders should be allowed the same measure of personal protection on college campuses that they enjoy off-campus.
Tags: Eric at the Gunmart Blog

United States --(Ammoland.com)- No, sadly I was not the one who coined that phrase. I don’t know the exact origins, but Michael Bane was the person who I first heard use the phrase.

Its so awesome too. First off, its rock star cool and just has a fantastic sound to it.

Secondly, it perfectly encapsulates exactly where we are today as a nation. Concealed carry has without a doubt reached a whole new level in this great nation of ours. One that many of us never would have thought could be achieved. There are many contributing factors as to why that is, but I think that it is all of those pocket guns that flooded the marketplace over the last several years that is the major underlying contributor.

We have actually come full circle as a nation. It was not too many years ago that we were indeed a “pocket gun nation“. It was not uncommon for many men and women to carry small caliber (.22 lr and .25 ACP) pocket guns everywhere they went. It encompassed people from every demographic and nearly every walk of life. From finely dressed men and women who carried those ubiquitous little .25 ACP Colt and Browning “Vest” models in their suits and purses, to countless “good ol’ boys” who found a home for those little hideout guns in the front pocket of their overalls. Numerous people carried pocket guns everywhere they went and no one thought anything of it.

After the past three years of the most left leaning President in American history it would be a ridiculous understatement to say that firearm sales in this country are up.

Of course, sales of firearms in general are up (big time!), but so are concealed carry licenses as well as the handguns to go with them. The segment that’s up the sharpest is that of the .380 pocket pistols. The sales are soaring. The statistics tell us that there was an over 70 % increase in sales of .380 pistols from 2009 to 2010, and I think its pretty safe to say that they are still in high demand. We have seen many new models of pocket sized .380s come to the marketplace, and we also have very recently seen the rise of a completely new market segment… the mini 9mm. People once again are wanting pocket guns, and the industry has filled that need/want with some wonderful little guns.

So what is it about a pocket gun that appeals to so many Americans?
For one, they are incredibly easy to carry. I will admit it. I too have joined the masses and I carry a small pocket gun just about everywhere I go… and its an absolute joy to tote around. They are light weight, thin, and easy to conceal. In most cases you don’t really have to worry much about dressing around your firearm. You don’t have to buy a larger pants size, you don’t have to have a heftier belt, and you don’t have to go out and try to find baggy shirts. Just slip it in a pocket holster, slide it into your pocket and you’re out the door. They are a product that fits easily into people’s lives rather than forcing people to change their lives to fit around the product. You don’t have to be a marketing genius to figure that one out.

The other big attraction of these guns is that they are very affordable. You can literally get away with spending between $250- $350 and still get yourself a quality, reliable concealed carry gun. That is something that is very appealing to just about everyone who has a desire to provide for their own personal protection no matter what their socioeconomic background is. These guns lower the financial barriers to entry into the concealed carry world, and are allowing people even of modest means to defend themselves.

Yes, pocket guns have their limitations.
There is no question, with the exception of the new crop of 9mms, that these are “sub-caliber guns“. They require different tactics, higher levels of awareness, and a greater emphasis on shot placement. However, its my personal belief that a quality .380 round is well within the realistic needs of what an average law abiding citizen walking around town actually requires for personal protection. Bullet technology has come a very long way, and these smaller calibers are not what they used to be back in your grandfather’s day. Performance with regards to penetration and expansion are now well within the ranges of what is acceptable for concealed carry.

Finally, I think the greatest thing that has resulted in this push towards becoming a pocket gun nation once again is what we have been seeing happen day in and day out… nothing!

Thats right. As gun sales in this country have surged to record new heights and more and more Americans are carrying their guns on a daily basis… absolutely nothing has happened. Those gun grabbers on the far left who want to see a return to serfdom have endlessly harped about how there would be “blood in the streets“, how there would be “shootouts in restaurants“, and how “the cops would have no way of knowing who the bad guys were“. Yet, day in and day out nothing happens.

Gun sales continue to increase and gun crime continues to decrease. More and more people are demanding their rights to personal defense be restored, and as more and more “gun free zones” are abolished violent crime rates plummet. According to the FBI, in 2010 gun crimes in the U.S. decreased for the fourth straight year, and murders have been steadily decreasing since 2006.

Its estimated that there are currently between 80-90 million gun owners in the U.S. and many of them are now figuring out what their grandfathers and great grandfathers once knew…What it is like to be a “Pocket Gun Nation“.

About:
Wisconsin Gun Owners

Wisconsin --(Ammoland.com)- As a political lobbying organization, WGO works to defend and restore your right to keep and bear arms.

And if you’ve been a supporter of WGO for any amount of time, you know there simply isn’t a more committed gun rights organization in Wisconsin pushing for Constitutional Carry (no permit carry).

Even so, there will be many Wisconsinites rushing out to get a permit to carry a gun this fall. According to a recent news report, over 270,000 people have been licensed to carry a handgun in Michigan since that state passed its CCW license system nearly a decade ago. I expect the number of Wisconsinites to meet or exceed that number over time.

However, just because you have a permit to carry a gun, doesn’t mean you’re necessarily prepared to do so. That’s because carrying a loaded handgun carries with it inherent liabilities. It isn’t just about what’s the best handgun, or the most effective ammo, holster or other gear, though those are indeed important considerations.

I’m talking about taking the time and spending some of your money on educational resources to get the training needed to win a gunfight. Ironically, if you were to use a gun in self-defense, there’s a good chance you’ll find yourself facing an additional threat: The anti-gun District Attorney, who is now out to skewer you alive with a manslaughter or murder charge.

Can You Articulate?
I’ve spent the last several years studying everything I can get my hands on about the judicious use of self-defense and I am still struck by the fact that Defensive Gun Uses (DGUs) rarely happen as they are depicted by Hollywood.

Even in the best of circumstances (in which you survive the gunfight), the prospect of being railroaded by a prosecutor hell-bent on portraying you as a radical gun nut with a trigger finger — and the dead attacker as a poor victim and nice kid — is very real.

Are you able to articulate to a jury and other triers of fact that you were a reluctant participant? Can you communicate a reasonable and immediate fear of death or bodily harm? Did options other than deadly force exist? Did you try but were unable to retreat? What should you say to the police?

Concealed Carry Program
To help you answer these questions, we’ve launched the WGO Concealed Carry Program. Simply put, it’s a way for you to get your hands on the best educational resources — from authors like Massad Ayoob, books published by Gun Digest and DVDs like the excellent Thunder Ranch series with Clint Smith.

By supporting this win-win program, you give WGO the resources to lobby for your rights and teach more people about the responsible use of defensive handguns. And you get a package of stuff that will help you be prepared — for the thug on the street or the prosecutor in the courtroom. Be on the lookout for more details coming soon.

Don’t Buy List
The other initiative we’re launching is the Don’t Buy List. If the experience of other states is any indication, once Nov. 1 rolls around you’ll see businesses posting “No Guns Allowed” signs. Business owners are within their rights to post these offensive displays of ignorance, but it’s our right to take our business elsewhere — and let them know about it. In fact, with the economy being what it is, no business in Wisconsin can afford to lose any customers, let alone to alienate gun owners. Our Don’t Buy List will send a polite but strong message to anti-gun businesses: Serve gun owners or lose our business. Of course, I welcome your ideas for improving this program.

E-mail me at executivedirector@ wisconsingunowners.org

About:
WGO works for grassroots gun owners, not politicians. While many gun lobbies fight for “reasonable gun control,” WGO sets a higher standard: Defining the terrain of pro-gun political battle. Sure, many groups claim they’re “pro-gun” – all the while they provide cover for anti-gun deals cut by politicians – but only WGO truly informs gun owners, remaining committed to a 100% pro-gun position. We oppose all gun control – regardless of the political party – and work tirelessly to restore the Second Amendment. Visit Ammoland.com)- Recently, a Mr. George Quarles of Forestville, California sent a letter to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser thanking Police Chief Louis Kealoha for not allowing another concealed-carry gun on the island.

He seems to believe that by not allowing a law abiding citizen to conceal carry that it will limit the number of firearms that are in Hawaii.

Point of fact, although the laws make it cumbersome to legally purchase a firearm it does not limit the number of firearms that are in Hawaii.

These laws have discouraged me from purchasing a firearm for many years, but criminals still purchase firearms despite these laws.

In fact, the laws have tipped the scales in favor of the criminal element because they don’t follow the law anyway. Criminals are weak minded predators that seek easy prey, and they know the odds are in their favor when attacking the good folks of Hawaii, or anywhere else for that matter. According to Hawaii’s own 2009 annual crime reports –

“Of the 3,165 murders, robberies, and aggravated assaults reported statewide during 2009, 47.2% were committed using strongarm weapons (i.e., hands, fists, and feet); 26.5% with “other” or unknown weapons; 17.3% with knives or other edged weapons; and 9.0% with firearms.”

Eric at the Gunmart Blog

United States --(Ammoland.com)- Should the President carry a gun?

Its a question that has been lighting up the Interwebs lately.

Of course this is all coming to the forefront because those silly people on the left are losing their ever loving minds over the fact that Rick Perry carries a gun… OMG! BLOOD WILL RUN IN THE STREETS! or something.

Guess what… he’s not the only politician who carries a gun. There are a bunch of them. In fact, there are even a good number of far left wing anti-gun politicians who have a permit and carry a gun.

David Kopel over at The Volkh Conspiracy points out that, yes, the President can legally carry a gun – even in Washington D.C. He can be deputized, he can be issued a carry license, he could issue an executive order, or (I think) he could probably get away with just thumbing his nose at everybody. David also points out that it would not be unprecedented if a president decided to carry a gun. Other Presidents have packed heat, and so have the wives.

So, the question is not really can the President carry a gun but rather should he. Of course, I think that it would be good for the gun culture, and it would make concealed carry even that much more mainstream. I don’t think that you can realistically make the case the he actually needs a gun for protection. I think the ninjas (real ninjas, not the ones that hang out at the food court) that are the Secret Service are all he really needs. They have more then enough manpower, firepower, and training to maximize his chances for survival in just about every contingency that might threaten his life. If it ever did come down to a last ditch hide out gun (a ridiculously remote possibility)…. well, lets just say that he would be having a really, really bad day.

There is also the question of concealed carry on foreign soil. I don’t really know how that works… it might fall under the umbrella of diplomatic immunity, or it might not. It might also result in our President getting a pat-down (depending on which foreign soil he might be visiting), and is that something that we really want to see on MSNBC?

The other questionable aspect of this would be state side. Depending on the method used to grant authorization for concealed carry to the President, the question would still remain as to how federal/state gun laws would apply. Would the President be exempt from “gun free zones“?

Would he be authorized to carry within federal buildings, courthouses, Congress, The White House, on an airplane?

And here in-lies the part of all of this that I don’t really like… “Laws for thee, but not for me!“. Yes, that’s what this really is. Its another example of politicians being exempt from guns laws… with the caveat of “Its The President” so that makes it a little easier for people to swallow. Well, I dont like it. If he wants/needs to carry a gun then perhaps he (and all other elected officials who try to pull the same crap) should work to get oppressive gun laws reversed so that all citizens can enjoy the same freedom.

All animals are not equal when some animals are more equal than others.

About:
Ammoland.com)- We’re finding that today’s hottest market segment right now is the Concealed Carry market.

Besides the firearm of choice you are using yourself or selling to your customers, there are some important accessories you need to educate yourself about prior to their purchase or display and sale in your shop.

We’re going to talk about accessories because we don’t sell guns – but you have to thoroughly understand your handgun before you look at or buy your accessories.

So the first step is to really understand your firearm. Know how to open it and make sure the chamber is empty and safe. (By the way, if you watch knowledgeable gun handlers, you’ll notice they always open and check the chamber when they are handed a gun – even if the person handing it to them has just done so. That rule drilled into lots of us when we were kids – safety first and always – is the best way to prevent an accident.)

Plan How To Carry
Next, of course, is to decide how you want to carry your handgun. This brings up your most important accessory, the holster. With the help of some industry-leading experts on staff, we have created a great educational guide and video on the different concealed carry holsters, purses, and technical gear you can to choose from.

The number of options is dizzying, and a good, solid grounding in why certain styles/designs are better than others will get you on the street with a comfortable concealed carry holster or option. In addition, we have everything in stock to get you whatever you need. Just click here to go to the video. You’ll find it mighty helpful and useful for you and your customers. Matter of fact, I’d show it to them when you’re training them on concealed carry to help them understand and pick the right carry method for them.

While we don’t carry handguns, let’s talk about them for a moment. Your choice of handgun is a very personal one. It must become a part of you and a piece of equipment with which you are extremely comfortable. Therefore, you want something that will fit your hand properly and comfortably, yet be small enough to be easily hidden. With a concealed carry handgun, you want to knock off the sharp edges so it doesn’t get caught on clothing, holster, or cut your fingers in the process of getting it out. This is where Brownells really shines, starting with hundreds of different sights to choose from that’ll lower your sight profile or offer a rounded-off profile without the sharp edges. There are different sizes of grips, too, so do some experimenting to pick the right one to fit your hand. There are many different textures on the grips to give you the right kind of feel when you have your handgun in your hand. Different safety levers either expand or shrink the size of the safety – or even change its location.

And, a different trigger plus a new recoil spring that helps tame felt recoil can make the gun easier to shoot.

The options are just endless. Some of these options require a gunsmith to help you install or make a selection. We strongly encourage you to talk to your local gunsmith, who can help you make the right choices for personalizing your handgun. Or if you are a gun shop working with a customer, we hope you are able to walk them through all the options available. Of course, this means that you’ll need to learn about them yourself, and the magazines, the web, and the Brownells Catalog are the most available sources for that knowledge.

Now a personal note – although it is not my “carry” gun for personal protection, a number of years ago I had a full-size Colt 1911 Series 70 done by Jim Clark (318-949-9884 or clarkcustomguns.com). Jim gave the gun what he calls a “Meltdown” treatment, which consists of rounding everything off and making it mighty comfortable to carry and draw. No sharp corners, sharp edges, bulkiness. Of course, he tuned it for me too, which I know helped, but it’s the handgun I always carry when out with my Prairie Dog Population Control Society simply because it’s fun to shoot, easy to carry, and quick to draw in case of a crazed attack.

I called Jim’s shop, and they will do the “Meltdown” treatment on your handgun or on one of theirs for you. Check them out. I give their treatment my highest personal recommendation.

Trigger Time
The last “accessory” we need to talk about is called “Trigger Time”. Make sure you spend enough time training in gun handling and shooting at the range with your handgun to become comfortable with how it operates, how it handles, and how to correctly draw it from the holster you have chosen.

Be sure you get training on how your holster works. Be really sure you understand everything. There are differences between how holsters contain the handgun and how you release it, and you can get into trouble not knowing how to do a safe draw.

Again, your local gunsmith and local gun range should be able to help you on this; and if you’re the gunsmith, be sure you train your customers well. Otherwise, you can go to the NRA website to find some training resources in your area. If you’re willing to travel, there are some great training options out there. We are great fans of the training taught at Gunsite and Thunder Ranch, and add to that the training available at Suarez International, I.C.E. Training, and our own Brownells Training Group.

Of course, Brownells can fulfill all of your ammo needs now, provide eye and ear protection needed at the range, and set you up with any tools you may need to tweak your handgun as you fine-tune your skills so you become really proficient.

The whole point of Concealed Carry is to protect yourself.
In order to do this, make sure you are comfortable with your handgun, you are comfortable in its use, and that you tap into your local network of trainers and educators. We would also include in this list a talk with your local sheriff or police chief if you have any questions about your local laws. And of course, you can always give us a call with any questions you may have about products and how to use them or you can check out this special <a
