class="wp-caption-text">Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife

DOVER, Delaware --(Ammoland.com)- The judges’ decisions are in: the DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife’s first fishing and hunting photo contests each have first and second place winners and three honorable mentions.

Three judges – well-known professional photographer Kevin Fleming, and local photographers Tony Pratt and Freda Barrett, both DNREC employees – reviewed 53 fishing entries and 27 hunting entries, and then narrowed each category to the top five.

The contests specified that photographs must have been taken in Delaware and must depict youth participating in fishing or hunting activities. Judges were looking for photos that best portrayed “the promise of the future” as envisioned by the Division’s 2011 theme of “Celebrating 100 Years of Fish and Wildlife Conservation: Reflecting on the Past, Moving into the Future.”

“When we were judging the contest entries, we looked most importantly for photographs that portrayed our theme and ‘the promise of the future,’” said Ms. Barrett, who suggested the contest as part of the Division’s 100-year celebration. “We also considered technical criteria such as resolution, clarity, lighting and composition. Some entries fit the theme, but had flaws such as poor lighting, an undesirable background or out-of-focus. Our winners are crisp close ups of youth partaking in fishing or hunting activities.”

“We saw some very nice entries for a first-time contest, and the winners were all good,” said Mr. Fleming, adding, “I would encourage the Division of Fish & Wildlife to consider making this year’s special photo contest held on the anniversary of 100 years of fish and wildlife conservation an annual event – and in case they do, I hope more people will be encouraged to take their cameras with them on their outdoor Delaware adventures.”

Fishing contest winners are:

First place: “Fishing with My Daddy,” toddler at Cape Henlopen, by Michele Reeder of Dover

Second place: “Barefoot Basin,” Collins Pond, by Joey Melvin of Georgetown

Honorable mention: Untitled photo of 8-year-old boy in waders holding big fish on White Clay Creek, by Brenda Rappa of Wilmington

Honorable mention: “Got One,” 9-year-old boy fishing in Cedar Creek Mill Pond, by Kathy Sheldon of Lincoln

Honorable mention: “Maddie Fishing Pic,” toddler fishing in Christina River, by James Brainard of New Castle

Hunting contest winners are:

First place: Untitled photo of 5-year-old boy hunting at Broadkill Beach, by Tom Burke of Greenwood

Second place: “Calling Them In,” 6-year-old boy hunting near Milton, by Amy Argo James of Milton

Honorable mention: “Scanning the Skies,” teen boy hunting at Ted Harvey Wildlife Area near Dover, by Dave Sawicki of Magnolia

Honorable mention: “Practice Makes Perfect,” 11-year-old girl hunting near Marydel, by Andrea Sergent of Marydel

Honorable mention: Untitled photo of two 12-year-old boys hunting near Lincoln, by Joey Melvin of Georgetown

“When we announced these contests as part of our 100-year celebration, we wanted to feature images of young anglers and hunters in our hunting and fishing guides, since young Delawareans will become the next generation of Delaware conservationists. The response from our resident photographers more than met our expectations,” said Division of Fish and Wildlife Director David Saveikis.

“Moving into the next century of fish and wildlife conservation in Delaware, we are encouraged by the promise of the future represented by these photographs of young anglers and hunters enjoying the outdoors.”

The winning fishing photos will appear in the 2012 Delaware Fishing Guide, with Ms. Reeder’s first place photo on the cover and second place and honorable mention photos printed inside the guide. The fishing guide will be available online, at the DNREC license counter in Dover and at fishing license dealers statewide in March.

The winning hunting photos will appear in the 2012-2013 Delaware Hunting and Trapping Guide, which is not yet in production. The hunting guide is due out in July and will be available online, at the DNREC license counter in Dover and at hunting license dealers statewide.

For more information about future Division photo contests, please visit www.fw.delaware.gov.
Tags: MasterPiece Arms

CARROLLTON, GA --(Ammoland.com)- MasterPiece Arms, manufacturers of the MAC 10 inspired MPA Defender Series and the MPA Protector Series subcompact pistols, gave fans and customers the opportunity to name the first series of their new MPA .22 sound suppressors.

The best name that followed in the MPA tradition of “Protector” and “Defender” product series names would win one of the first MPA 22 suppressors produced and designed entirely by MPA. The contest was to run through November 30, 2011, but due to overwhelming response, MPA alerted participants that the contest would close early on the 23rd of November. With over 280 entries, MPA set about reviewing the many impressive suggestions.

“With so many great product names coming in for the new .22 aluminum K-baffle suppressor, we made a decision to go ahead and launch our two other new .22 suppressor designs,” Phil Cashin, President and CEO of Masterpiece Arms announced. “Now, we have three winners for these new suppressors entirely made by MPA and we are very proud to announce them: Vigilant (inspired by the submission Vigilance), Murmur and Sentinel. We had several contestants suggest the same name so any winners were the first to place their suggestion.”

All three of the new .22 suppressors are completely made on Masterpiece Arms’ state-of-the-art CNC machinery, including a 5-axis vertical machining center for machining the exhaust ports. The units are designed to be fully serviced and cleaned by the user. A dis-assembly tool and instructions are included with every suppressor. The first of the three is the “Sentinel” named by winner Scott Wellman of Roanoke, VA. The Sentinel is a .22 suppressor in a K-baffle design with six baffles made from 7075 aircraft grade aluminum. The super-tight tolerances are held throughout the manufacturing process with respect to Total Indicated Runout (TIR) and concentricity of the outer tube to the front and rear cap. The K-baffles ensure a no point-of-impact shift. The front and rear caps, plus the outer tube are hard coated in an anodized black for anti-reflection and anti-corrosion. The Sentinel weighs just 3.1 ounces and is 5.625 inches in length and 1 inch in diameter. MSRP is $239.99

The second new .22 suppressor is the Murmur, named by winner Daniel Stinson of Shreveport, LA, and features a monocore design machined from a solid piece of 7075 aircraft grade aluminum. The Murmur is also hard coated in an anodized black and weighs 3.8 oz. and measures 6 in. length and 1 inch in diameter. MSRP is $259.99

The third and final .22 suppressor is the Vigilant, which was inspired by the submission “Vigilance” from winner Eric Walton. The Vigilant is also six K-baffle design machined from stainless steel with a polished stainless finished tube. The Vigilant weighs 5.7 oz. and measures 5.8 in. MSRP is $325.99. This suppressor is rated for semi-auto and full-auto applications in .22LR.

The new MPA suppressors are the first series in an expanding line up of MPA sound suppressors that will include center-fire and rim-fire pistol and rifle models in .22LR, .223/5.56, 9mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP. Like all Masterpiece Arms products, the suppressors include a lifetime warranty and support of the MPA dedicated service department.

Congratulations to the winners of MPA’s Name that Suppressor Contest. MPA also wishes to thank all of their customers and Facebook fans for participating and looks forward to more such promotions in the future. The MPA new .22 suppressors can be ordered on the MPA website or at your favorite retailer.

About MasterPiece Arms:<br

They had to run to the top of the tower, engage targets in the distance, and then run back down to the next target area. The second component of the challenge was to hit various targets on foot downrange. After completed, the Warriors ran up a berm to get to the next station where they needed to assemble an AK-47and engage multiple targets. They then used a Jeep Wrangler to assist in climbing a wall, and once over had to drag an injured rescue subject (180 lb dummy) to safety.

The Warriors were then given a short amount of time to eliminate enemy targets before they disappeared. Next, the Warriors ran to a shooting range where they needed to assemble six weapons (four pistols, one rifle, and one shotgun) and hit targets in the shooting stalls. After they finished that task, they ran into the multi-room facility where they had to scour the building, distinguish between threats and non-threats, and engage all enemy targets. The final aspect of the challenge was to drive a Jeep Wrangler through the Wadi course. Time and accuracy were both used to create an adjusted time for the Warriors.

The Warrior with the best adjusted time was U.S. Air Force 48th Rescue Squadron Pararescueman Luke D., making him the 2011 Maximum Warrior and owner of a brand new, 2012 Jeep Wrangler Call of Duty: MW3 Edition.

“It felt good to win knowing I was representing not only myself, but my family and the Pararescue career field,” said Luke D.

“My wife told me I was going to win before I ever left for the competition and she was really excited when she found out the results. Also, it’s not every day that you win a prize like a brand new Jeep Wrangler, so that is a blessing financially to our family.” Impressed with the nine other military competitors in the Maximum Warrior competition, Luke admitted he knew he was in for a tough journey.

Maximum Warrior Challenges:
All 15 challenges in the 2011 Maximum Warrior series were designed to utilize the skills that U.S. armed servicemen and women need to employ on a regular basis – rapid and critical thinking, decisive judgment, excellent marksmanship and much more. Challenge 10 required the two remaining warriors, Luke D. and Drew P. to move through multiple difficult and detail-oriented tasks quickly and adeptly. In the weeks ahead, Maximum Warrior fans can see every day, non-military guys competing with the 10 Maximum Warrior competitors in five additional challenge webisodes.

Check out Week 10’s Gate to Gate challenge and all previous weeks’ Maximum Warrior Challenge videos, biographies and other action-packed material at www.MaximumWarrior.com.

Warrior Challenges (Weeks 1-10)

Week #1: Soldier Rescue Challenge

Week #2: Target Recognition Challenge

Week #3: Obstacle Course

Week #4: Jeep Wrangler Off-Road Maneuvers

Week #5: Wadi Patrol

Week #6: Combat Pistol Challenge

Week #7: IED Ambush

Week #8: On-Road High Speed Driving

Week #9: Beast of the Earth

Week #10: Gate to Gate

<object

Episode six, however, is not just about having good aim and getting bulls-eyes. With flash bangs, smoke grenades and other distractions, warriors were forced to duck and cover, while still engaging targets from various firing positions around a Jeep Wrangler.

The warrior with the least amount of points at the end of the Combat Pistol challenge six was eliminated from the competition. The Combat Pistol challenge was won by U.S. Air Force Pararescue Luke D. who hit 27 targets in one minute, five more targets than the second place contender.

Combat Pistol Challenge:
The Combat Pistol challenge proved nerve wracking for the Warriors as they only had 60 seconds to complete the entire challenge. Their chances of hitting targets with their GLOCK model 17 pistols were hampered by countless smoke grenades detonating, flash bangs sounding and having to take cover at various points of the challenge. In addition to the warriors’ marksmanship-under-duress skills, the challenge also put their quick thinking abilities to the test.

Check out Week 6’s Combat Pistol challenge and all previous weeks’ Maximum Warrior Challenge videos, biographies and other action-packed material at <a

Conservationists, recreational birders, stamp collectors and others also buy the stamp to support wetland habitat conservation for a wide diversity of animals and plants. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- The California Department of Fish and Game is sponsoring an art contest for the 2012-2013 design for the state upland game bird stamp.

Open to all U.S. residents age 18 and older, entries will be accepted beginning Saturday until the Jan. 31, 2012 deadline. Entries must feature the band-tailed pigeon (Columba fasciata), and must include at least one adult bird.

A California upland game bird stamp is required for hunting resident and migratory upland game birds, including quail, wild turkey, pheasant and dove. Hunters are no longer required to physically attach the stamp to their license, but the stamps are still produced and mailed to purchasers upon request.

The department sells about 200,000 of the stamps annually, which are also prized by art collectors. Limited-edition signed prints may also be available for purchase. Proceeds from sales are spent on upland game bird-related projects, including conservation, education and outreach programs.

Designs will be judged on originality, artistic composition, anatomical accuracy and suitability for reproduction as a stamp and print. The winning entry will be chosen during a public judging event next spring, date and location to be determined.

Contest Ammoland.com)- The deadline for the annual conservation poster contest sponsored by the Sussex, Kent and New Castle Conservation Districts is fast approaching on Friday, Nov. 4.

The theme this year is “Forests for People: More Than You Can Imagine!” Posters will be judged in the following grade categories: K-1, 2-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12. First, second and third place winners in each category will receive a prize valued at $50, $25 and $15 respectively.

The annual conservation poster contest provides kindergarten through 12th grade students an opportunity to convey their thoughts about soil, water and related natural resource issues through art. It also highlights the educational outreach efforts of conservation districts and their state associations, auxiliaries and agencies. The contest follows the annual Stewardship theme which is sponsored by the National Association of Conservation Districts.

This year’s theme, “Forests for People: More Than You Can Imagine,” reminds us that we all have a connection to the trees in the forest. Forests play a critical role in providing clean water and healthy wildlife habitat, as well as jobs for our citizens and products that we use every day. Forests also offer us a place to take a peaceful walk or pitch a tent or hold a picnic. And they provide children with the perfect atmosphere to learn about the great outdoors.

For more information and educational resources about the theme, please visit

http://www.nacdnet.org/education/contests/poster/2011/rules_and_resources.html.

Each of the conservation districts will submit their first place posters in each category for judging at the state level. State level winners will then be submitted to the national contest. Last year, the winning Delaware poster for the 10-12 category went on to win first place in the 10-12 category in the national contest. In the event that an insufficient amount of posters are received, the county level contests will be eliminated and all posters will be judged at the state level.

The name of the student, teacher, school and student’s grade level must be written on the back of the poster. Posters must be hand-delivered or mailed flat in time to meet the deadline to the conservation district in the county in which the student resides.

Addresses for Delaware’s conservation district offices are as follows: New Castle Conservation District, 2430 Old County Road, Newark, DE 19702; Kent Conservation District, 800 Bay Road, Suite 2, Dover, DE 19901; and Sussex Conservation District, 21315 Berlin Road, Unit 4, Georgetown, DE 19947.

For more information, please contact Michelle Jacobs at 302-739-9135 or email Michelle.Jacobs@state.de.us.
Tags: <a

Maximum Warrior, today with the Soldier Rescue Challenge, launched its all-new website and will begin airing weekly webisodes through December.

All 20 competitors are part of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to test their physical prowess, strategic decision making skills and luck in this gut-wrenching and adrenaline pumping week-long challenge. For the second year in a row, Maxim has teamed with the Jeep brand to develop the world’s most innovative and interactive military-inspired competition. Not only do we deliver a real-life series of challenges for the competitors, but the competition is also a tribute to our men and women serving in the Armed Forces, and especially to our special ops operators,” said Ben Madden, Maxim’s Chief Revenue Officer.

“There is simply no other reality-based competition that allows for the highest ranks of the military to interact at this level with civilians.”

2011 Maximum Warrior (Active Special Ops Operators)<br

Tasks include extractions, terrain navigation around IED simulations, direct combat, off-road driving capability, agility courses, special ops intelligence gathering and more. MaximumWarrior.com will host weekly video updates of the challenges and candid on-location outtakes of the soldiers, all culminating with the announcement of the 2011 Maximum Warrior winner in November.

In addition to the bragging-rights including title of 2011 “Maximum Warrior,” the competition’s winner will also receive a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Call of Duty: MW3 Edition vehicle. As the few lucky contestants play out the real-life mock missions of Maximum Warrior, fans of the program will be able to follow along during the competitions at www.maximumwarrior.com. As if that isn’t enough, viewers can enter the Maximum Warrior national sweepstakes for the chance to win their very own 2012 Jeep Wrangler Call Of Duty: MW3 Edition.

2011 Maximum Warrior Pro-Am (Civilian Competition)
10 civilians with no formal military background were randomly selected on MaximumWarrior.com to compete in five military-style challenges. Paired with a special ops operator, the civilian competitors were given a three-day crash course in heavy-duty weapons training by the T1G instructors. Following the training, the Pro-Am competition consisted of five missions, including extractions, terrain navigation around IED simulations, agility courses and live-fire combat.

Catch all the action on Ammoland.com)- The contest will be held October 28-29 in Shepardstown, W.Va. If you are in the area, we highly recommend a visit to the contest.

The 2011 Federal Duck Stamp Art Contest will be held at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, W. Va., on October 28 and 29. This is the first time in the contest’s 61-year history that the event has been held in West Virginia.

The winning design chosen during the contest will be made into the 2012 (RW79) Federal Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp, or “Duck Stamp,” the cornerstone of one of the world’s most successful conservation programs.

“Having this prestigious contest at the National Conservation Training Center provides a unique opportunity to build on the long history of wildlife conservation and outdoor recreation in our country,” said Jay Slack, Director of the Service’s training center. “Never has it been more important to conserve and restore wetland habitat, especially as we search for methods to minimize the effects of climate change, for waterfowl and the multitude of other species that depend on wetlands.”

The $15 Federal Duck Stamp is a vital tool for wetland conservation, with 98 cents of every dollar generated going to purchase or lease wetland habitat for the National Wildlife Refuge System. Since the stamp’s inception, sales have helped to acquire nearly six million acres of wildlife habitat at hundreds of refuges in nearly every state.

The Federal Duck Stamp art contest is the only art competition of its kind sponsored by the federal government. Since the first open contest was held in 1949, thousands of wildlife artists from throughout the nation have submitted art to the annual contest. While the winner receives no money from the federal government, the winning artist may benefit from the increased visibility and sale of prints and artwork.

The first Federal Duck Stamp was designed in 1934 by Iowa native and editorial cartoonist J.N. “Ding” Darling, who was the director of the Bureau of Biological Survey, forerunner to the Fish and Wildlife Service. It sold for $1. The stamp currently sells for $15, and more than 1.5 million people buy Duck Stamps annually.

Every waterfowl hunter age 16 or older is required to buy a Federal Duck Stamp. In addition, the stamps are highly sought after by collectors, conservationists and wildlife art aficionados. A current Federal Duck Stamp also provides free admission into any refuge open to the public. There are 550 National Wildlife Refuges spread across all 50 states and U.S. territories, offering unparalleled wildlife oriented recreational opportunities, including hunting, fishing, bird watching and photography.

For information about the Federal Duck Stamp Program and about the 2011 Federal Duck Stamp Contest, go to: http://www.fws.gov/duckstamps.
