Oceanside, CA --(Ammoland.com)- The CMP has now approved two commercial rear sight inserts for use in Service Rifle competitions.

The rectangular rear aperture insert produced by ShootingSight LLC of Cincinatti, Ohio and the SR MicroSight produced by Stallings Machine of Senoia, Georgia are now legal for use in CMP-sanctioned Service Rifle matches beginning with the 2011 shooting season.

The following two rule changes will be incorporated into the 2011 CMP Competition Rules that are due for release in March. Anyone with questions should contact CMP Headquarters at Camp Perry.

• 6.1.1 (4) Front and rear sights: Must be of U.S. Army design (either service or match). Front sights must have square-topped posts. Any modifications to the front sight, rear sight or rear sight hood must be specifically authorized in Rule 6.1.2.
• 6.1.2 (3) The dimensions of the rear sight aperture (internal diameter) and the front sight post (width) may vary from standard military dimensions. The rear sight hood diameter may not be longer than 0.70″ or larger than 0.50″ in diameter. The rear sight aperture may have a fixed, non-adjustable round, square or rectangular aperture insert. A corrective lens or multi-focal lens system may be inserted in the rear sight hood.

Previous versions of either front or rear lenses required you to choose between focusing on the sight or the target—but not both. The MicroSight is an aiming aid that will simultaneously bring BOTH into focus! For the first time you’ll have a sight picture where the front sight and the target are both in focus.

Took my new coat with me to Camp Perry where I shot the CMP games matches. Shot personal bests in 2 of the 4 matches, tied my best in a 3rd, and but for a rifle malfunction would have had my best in the 4th. As it was I still earned medals in all 4 matches! I bought a shooting coat because I always fell behind the field when shooting offhand, so needless to say I was surprised at the difference the coat made when shooting prone. Ohio - -(AmmoLand.com)- Competitors at the National Rifle Matches in Ohio were introduced to the new Creedmoor Sports NMAR designed for both the new CMP NMAR discipline and real-time practice.

With over 220 entries, Paul Kerr out-shot all of the competitors to win the Bernosky Challenge event on August 8, 2009, with a 197-8x score. USAMU shooter, Brandon Green, finished a close second, scoring 197-3x. Carl Bernosky, for which the match was named after, came in third place at 196-4x. Those out-scoring Carl Bernosky took home cash prizes totaling of over $1000.

One of three NMAR equipment classes is for air rifles configured like M16/AR-type rifles.The Creedmoor-Anschütz NMAR rifle is one of these rifles. Alabama – -(AmmoLand.com)- A brand new concept in target air rifles will be unveiled at an air rifle competition that will take place at the CMP’s Anniston (Alabama) Competition Center this Saturday, 14 March.

Creedmoor Sports Inc., one of the major shooting sports equipment suppliers in the USA, has designed an AR style air rifle built around an Anschütz 8001 barreled action.

This rifle was designed in conjunction with the development of the CMP’s new National Match Air Rifle shooting discipline. The first Creedmoor prototype will be unveiled at a test competition for the new discipline in Anniston on 14 March.

The new Creedmoor NMAR features an Anschütz M8001 air rifle system (action, trigger, barrel) that is fitted into an AR-type platform. A compressed air cylinder housed inside the forearm powers the Anschütz M8001 system. An actual AR-type carry handle with AR sight attaches to the top of the M8001 action.

It also utilizes an actual AR-15 front sight assembly. The complete rifle is designed to have the look, configuration and feel of the AR-type service rifles that are used in CMP Service Rifle competitions.
