MESA, Ariz. - -(AmmoLand.com)- With more than $50,000 in cash and prizes, “3-Gun Nation” kicks off its inaugural tour at the DPMS Superstition Mountain Mystery 3-Gun event at the Rio Salado Sportsman’s Club here March 25-28.
A made-for-TV event, FNH USA’s “3-Gun Nation,” presented by SureFire, marks the beginning of a new era in practical shooting. Owned and operated by the National 3-Gun Association (N3GA), “3-Gun Nation” and the accompanying tour were formed to highlight the fast-growing sport of 3-gun.
“We’re very proud to be able to start this tournament series and would not be able to do so without the partnership of our title sponsor FNH USA, our presenting sponsor SureFire, as well as all of the distinguished sponsors and 3-Gun events that comprise this tour,” said Pete Brown, president, N3GA. “The sport of 3-Gun has seen a great deal of positive growth in recent years, and our mission is to continue that trend.”
Superstition is the first of five qualifying events to host the 3-Gun Nation Tour. Throughout each of the qualifiers, competitors accumulate points, with the top performers advancing to the year-end Classic, held outside Las Vegas in conjunction with the USPSA Multi-Gun Nationals. In the qualifiers, the top eight competitors will square off in a dramatic single-elimination shoot-off, with the winner taking home $5,000. And in a first for competitive shooting, the winner of the 3-Gun Nation Classic will win $25,000. The entire tour, along with each host event, will be broadcast on “3-Gun Nation” before a national television audience on Versus, beginning in July 2010.
“We did not want to change the structure of any of the matches that comprise this tour,” said Brown. “We wanted to start a series that shined a spotlight on the great shooters in this sport, the recreational shooting lifestyle, as well as all of the distinguished matches and sponsors who help make 3-gun happen year after year for this industry.”
The 3-Gun Nation Tour will also partner with the following matches: Sabre Defense Blue Ridge Mountain 3-Gun, FNH USA’s Midwest 3-Gun Championships, MGM Ironman and JP Enterprises’ Rocky Mountain 3-Gun. The Classic will be held in Boulder City, Nevada, outside Las Vegas, at the conclusion of the USPSA Multi-Gun Nationals.
Primary 3-Gun Nation sponsors include FNH USA, SureFire, Federal Premium, Weaver, Brownells and Leupold. MGM Targets, ReVision Eyeware, and Lewis Machine & Tool have contributed prizes and support to the 3-Gun Nation Tour and website. The $5,000 prize for winning the shoot-off at Superstition is sponsored by US P.A.L.M.
“3-Gun Nation” will be hosted by country music singer, and shooting enthusiast, Mark Wills. Veteran outdoor writer Chad Adams will co-host the show with Wills. The show will air at 7:30 AM EST Mondays and 3:30 PM EST Thursdays on Versus.
In addition to the forthcoming “3-Gun Nation” television program airing on Versus, the N3GA will launch its supporting website, www.3GunNation.com, in conjunction with Superstition. The web site will feature original content, including shooting industry news, shooter profiles, tips, photos, commentary and professionally produced videos from the 3-Gun Nation Tour. Guns and gear will be evaluated and reviewed by outdoor writers and professional shooters, giving never-before-seen insight into the hottest shooting sport in the industry.
