Texas State & Gulf Coast Regional Duck Calling Contests

Buffalo, TX --(Ammoland.com)- Newell Cheatheam, President of Newell’s Designs/Manager of Dish TV Katy of Katy, Texas, and Contest Calling Chairman for the Texas State Championship Duck Calling Contest since 2001 announces the Texas State & Gulf Coast Regional Duck Calling Contests on April 17th, 2010 in Buffalo, TX were a great success.

Mike Barnett, of Centerville, Texas the Contest Calling Chairman for the Gulf Coast Regional Duck Calling Contest and Cheatheam have been coordinating the two contests together since 2002.

Andrew C. Barnett of Missouri City, Texas won the 2010 Texas State Championship Sanctioned Duck Calling Contest using an Echo duck call, with second runner up Ward McGee of Houston Texas using a RNT duck call, and third runner up Kelvin Walthall of Carrollton, Texas using an ECHO duck call. Barnett will represent Texas in the 75th annual World’s Championship Duck Calling Contest on November 27th in Stuttgart, Arkansas.

Daniel Duke, of Stuttgart, Ark. won the 2010 Gulf Coast Regional Championship Sanctioned Duck Calling Contest using a RNT duck call, with second runner up Phil Green of New Iberia, La with an ECHO duck call, and third runner up Clint Parker Johnson of Ravenna, Texas using a RNT duck call. Duke was the Third runner up in the 2009 74th annual World’s Championship Duck Calling Contest and will representing the Gulf Coast Region in the World’s Championship Duck Calling Contest.

Champion Goose Caller Scott Threinen Joins the Final Approach Advisory Staff

Overland Park, KS. --(AmmoLand.com)- World champion goose caller Scott Threinen, of Rochester, Minnesota has joined the Final Approach Advisory Staff.

Scott is an active contest caller who currently holds over 25 major calling titles, including:

  • 2007, 2008, 2009 World Live Goose Calling Champion
  • 2005 World Team Calling Champion
  • 3-Time Northern National Champion
  • 2-Time Northern Open Champion
  • I.W.A. North American Champion

Scott grew up on a dairy farm outside a small town in Minnesota. With a large local population of geese in the area, he started hunting waterfowl at 12 years old. When he was 15 his parents would drop him off at fields to call for guided hunters in the renowned area of Rochester, Minnesota. Hunting and being outdoors was his passion, but he also excelled in sports in high school.

Scott signed with the Cleveland Indians out of high school after they drafted him his senior year. He also played football where he signed a letter of intent to play both football and baseball at Oklahoma State University. He played four years in the Indians organization and now resides in Rochester, Minnesota.

After baseball, in 2006 he started a company called Molt Gear which produces instructional calling and hunting DVDs and CDs. The initial release of the Bad Grammer CD in 2006, followed by the Bad Grammer DVD in 2008 have become the number one selling goose calling instructional discs on the market. In 2009 he released the Stage Grammer DVD for inspiring contest callers and this past March, Scott and Molt Gear released their first in a series of videos called “The Goose Society,” which takes an inside look into the finer aspects of goose hunting.

Additionally, Scott was recognized in 2004 with the cystic fibrosis humanitarian award for his contributions and efforts of bringing awareness of the disease. He also runs an instructional goose hunting club out of Rochester, Minnesota.
