The double diamond rosewood grips have a rollmark proclaiming the 1911’s 100 years of service. “Anyone who owns a 1911 thinks of Colt as the forefather, the origin of the species, the grand daddy of all 1911s,” said Kauffmann, “So it is really cool to now have a Colt in my collection.”

Tom McHale describes himself as a conservative gun-totin’ bible-clingin’ literary assault dude who enjoys finding humor in just about anything. His web blog My Gun Culture is an irreverent, twisted look at gun news bordering on the ridiculous. It covers shootin’ stuff, loud noises, defending your own, the occasional mall ninja, and about 200 years of the American way. “These are the (partially) true stories of… My Gun Culture” says Tom. class="wp-caption-text">National Shooting Sports Foundation

NEWTOWN, Conn --(Ammoland.com)- In celebration of its 50th Anniversary, the National Shooting Sports Foundation is inviting all gun owners, hunters and target shooters to participate in its Golden Anniversary Photo Contest.

Cool monthly prizes, including a $50 gift card and NSSF’s official anniversary history publication, are part of this fun, interactive contest.

Each month beginning in May NSSF will announce a theme connected with its 50-year history and invite people to post photographs related to that theme. To post a photo, look for the Contests tab on NSSF’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/nssfcomm.

Photos may be posted during the first three weeks of each month, with the last week devoted to voting for the winners. At the end of the month, the ten photos with the most votes will be declared winners, and individuals who posted the photos will receive NSSF’s 50th Anniversary history publication and 50th Anniversary commemorative coin. The top voter-getter each month will receive a $50 gift card from a major outdoor retailer. To post a photo, an individual must first “Like” the NSSF Facebook page, which currently has more than 6,000 fans.

Individuals may post as many photos as they like each month and during the course of the year. People who post photographs can vote for their own photos and may want to encourage others to vote for their photos by using social media tools, whether it’s contacting their friends on Facebook or through postings on Twitter, LinkedIn and other social networking sites.

“We can think of no better way for the National Shooting Sports Foundation to celebrate its golden anniversary than to provide this opportunity for hunters, target shooters and gun owners to tell their stories by sharing their favorite photos. The photos will demonstrate the many ways people enjoy and safely participate in the shooting sports, creating memories worth more than gold. Thanks to social media, each individual’s photo joins others to become a powerful testament to our outdoor heritage,” said Bill Brassard, NSSF’s director of communications.

The contest kicks off with this May theme: “Formed in 1961, NSSF soon began promoting hunter ethics, firearm safety and good sportsmanship. Each spring season millions of hunters conduct themselves responsibly and safely during their hunts. Post a photo of your spring hunt, whether turkey, game birds or small game.”

Other monthly themes, all associated with NSSF’s 50-year history, will focus on target shooting, youth participation, family and friends, hunter orange, wildlife conservation, AR-style modern sporting rifles and handguns.

Look for the Contests tab at www.facebook.com/NSSFcomm, where entry guidelines can be found. During the approximately week-long voting period each month, individuals may vote a maximum of once per day.

NSSF hopes participants post and vote often!

About NSSF
AmmoLand Gun News

Dallas, TX - -(Ammoland.com)- Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Google services all have been disrupted by Egyptian governing authorities in pursuit of clamping down on protests.

And we don’t think the U.S. government would do the same?

Tell me, what’s the difference between the Egyptian government’s shutting down social networks to “bring order” to protests and the U.S. government’s shutting down the Internet if there is an “imminent cyber threat”?

Answer: nothing.

Over the past two years, the Obama administration has ramped up regulation and control of the Internet. Of course, it’s packaging any bids to do so under Internet and homeland security.

But when does homeland security breach its constitutional limits of power and your rights as a citizen? How much authority can the feds be granted to “take over” a civilian network in case of an emergency?

First, there was Sen. John Rockefeller’s Cybersecurity Act of 2009. That legislation gave the president executive privilege and power to shut down civilian infrastructure if he deems it necessary.

Then there was the “more moderate” Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act of 2010, proposed by Sen. Joseph Lieberman and other senators.

Now Lieberman and his cronies are decrying any parallels between the Egyptian Internet crackdown and their Internet kill switch bill. They released a statement Feb. 1 saying emergency measures in their bill would only apply in a “precise and targeted way” to “critical infrastructure” to ensure that important assets and civilian networks “are protected from destruction.” Their legislation would only allow the president to use emergency authority if there were an “ongoing or imminent” attack that would “cause local or national catastrophic effects” if there were a disruption.

And neither Obama (or any future president) nor Congress would ever abuse or build on that autocratic cease-and-desist decision, right?

Two days before Christmas 2010 (isn’t its dodging timing uncanny?), the Obama administration issued yet new “network neutrality” regulations for Internet service providers. Of course, Julius Genachowski, President Barack Obama’s appointee as Federal Communications Commission chairman, introduced these new regulations with the pure motive of guaranteeing equal access to the Internet, right? I agree with Sen. Jim DeMint, who says the FCC should be renamed the “Fabricating a Crisis Commission.”

Seeing a pattern yet?
If not, consider that President Obama believes the federalized security screening at airports has been such a success that he wants to apply the same government “expertise” to the arenas of online commentary and commerce. The White House’s cybersecurity adviser joined Commerce Secretary Gary Locke on Jan. 7 to announce what boils down to a national ID card for the Internet.

As The Washington Times reported, “their plan is straightforward. Instead of logging onto Facebook or one’s bank using separate passwords established with each individual company or website, the White House will take the lead in developing what it calls an ‘identity ecosystem’ that will centralize personal information and credentials. This government-approved system would issue a smart card or similar device that would confirm an individual’s identity when making online credit-card purchases, accessing electronic health care records, posting ‘anonymous’ blog entries or even logging onto one’s own home computer, according to administration documents.”

The Family Research Council summarized the “benefits” of this new U.S. Internet ID, or dog tag:

The government would be able to track every website you visit and every keystroke you make on your home computer.

The government would be able to track every purchase you make and every deposit and withdrawal, and it could gain access to your electronic health care records.

The government would be able to track every blog comment you make, along with every Facebook and Twitter post.

The government would be able to create lists of your friends and acquaintances and lists of all your political affiliations, political donations, club memberships, hobbies and interests.

And I’m sure the feds even would be so kind as to provide us with our own passwords! How lucky are we?! From Obamacare to Obamanet! And what’s next, a cashless, credit card-less system through which we all receive chips on the backs of our hands or foreheads without which we can’t purchase or trade?

You must admit that this Internet must be a scary thing to governments. In particular, as we’ve seen in Egypt, social networks provide a unique threat; it’s called free speech. Political rallies are no longer limited to places like Cairo’s Tahrir Square or Washington’s National Mall.

Squelching criticism and invoking Internet kill switches are outlandish overreaches and constitutional affronts by executive governmental power, in Egypt or the U.S. And anyone’s belief that a government agency could step in and administer civilian networks and servers, even under attack, better than the private companies that own them is naive and just plain idiotic.

But if the feds aren’t smart enough to figure that out, then here’s a no-brainer for them. In fact, they should have gotten the message loud and clear from watching the Egyptian uprising on CNN or Fox News Channel this past week: Shutting down the Internet in any way will not subdue the people; it will only fuel resistance.

How many times do we patriots have to point it out to these governmental knuckleheads?

Mr. President, you say that you now are patterning your presidency after Ronald Reagan’s. Then follow his core advice about expanding government control and regulation: “Government is not the solution to our problem. Government is the problem.”

SOG was an acronym which stood for Studies and Observations Group. Sanctioned to develop and purchase their own equipment, SOG created several knives for use in one of the harshest environments in the world. It was in the spirit of this elite group, and the quality equipment they commissioned, that SOG Specialty Knives and Tools was founded in 1986 by Spencer Frazer. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Have recent comments by Dick Cheney regarding restrictions on High Capacity Firearms Magazines, combined with the Arizona shooting of 20 people by a mentally deranged individual spurred on President Obama to finally take on the politically dangerous topic of gun control?

The liberal left gun control organizations and anti-gun political fat cats, like New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, have publicly scolded the president for not moving faster to implement their anti freedom agendas. Up until now the president has shown great restraint from publicly identifying specific actions in the name of limiting the Second Amendment.

But is he now feeling bold enough to take on the majority of freedom loving Americans with the launch of a more gun control?

Announcements by Chris Mathews, Newsweek, and others seem to indicate that the President is planning to hold a press conference regarding just that topic – “increased gun control initiatives”.

When we asked John Lott, resident scholar at American Enterprise Institute & Author of More Guns, Less Crime? he noted: “It seems clear that the Obama administration is going to move openly to do what it has been doing quietly regarding gun control. Presumably he will push for re-instituting parts of the Assault Weapon Ban. ”

“There might also be changes regarding background checks. Both involve spending money on things that do not reduce crime.”

Make no mistake about it any attempt at additional federal gun control initiatives whether through new laws or executive orders (the easy way to gun control without facing Congress, with its new Tea Party & Libertarian backed members) will be a direct assault against the overall American consensus - that we do not need more restrictions on our second amendment freedoms.

“Obama has been a vicious anti-gunner forever. He has deceitfully thrown us a bone with signing into law our right to carry in national parks, but he and his anti-gun cronies would never fail to ever let a ‘tragedy go to waste.’ ”

Anyone paying attention to this master of smoke and mirrors knows he is always ready to pounce on our God given, Constitutionally guaranteed individual right to keep and bear arms, and I along with many freedom fighters feel it coming soon.”

“If we bend over and let it happen, we will get what we deserve. Now is the time to wallpaper and carpetbomb our elected officials and the media with the truth about more guns equal less crime, now more than ever. Give NRA memberships to everyone you know.” said Rock Star and NRA Board Member, Ted Nugent

Agreeing with Mr. Nugent, author and firearms law expert, Alan Korwin, believes it is the time for the Grass Roots Gun Lobby to be on the offensive.

“[It is well known that] the forces aligned against our civil right to arms are disgracefully using an assassin’s heinous crime to foment hatred and attack us, now is not the time to simply resist their power-hungry vitriol and bile, which will only make them push more strongly.

“Now is the time to advance a vigorous pro-rights agenda, because it is the righteous response to the problems their anti-freedom efforts create. Free people from the governmental chains that constrain them, and seek a more robust and fruitful expression of rights that are so fundamental to the American way of life.

“Force them to resist us, by taking the high moral ground on the constitutionally guaranteed right to defend innocent life against whatever evil may confront us.

“To begin, it is well past time to eliminate the obstacles and finally attain national [firearms] carry rights for all law-abiding adult Americans.”

So what should you, a concerned citizen of the United Sates, do in perpetration for this coming attack?

First join a group that supports your rights.
Step one, don’t wait for the main assault, be proactive, do something now. With that in mind, everyday Americans, should join one of the many grass roots gun rights organizations of which there are many including of course, the big dog in the room, the National Rifle Association (NRA).

For some the NRA may not be the best fit. That is OK because you have many other national and local pro gun groups to choose from.

National:

Second Amendment Foundation (Gunny Wants you to like this page!

The second tool is Social Media.
The core of all these initiatives, both for and against gun control, is politicians and their support by their constituents. At the end of the day it is the people each politician directly represents telling them “don’t Sponsor Gun Control or loose your job next election” that will make the difference. We all know that politicians most of all want to keep their jobs.

That is where social media (primarily FaceBook, Twitter) comes in. “Bookmark”, “Tweet”, “Like” and “ReTweet” positive pro gun articles like this one and many others. Keep the social chatter dominated by Pro Gun News and drown out those pushing for taking away your freedoms. By keeping the general public seeing and reading pro gun news story’s, on the side of the issues that supports freedom, we make it easier for them to tell their politicians to keep on the same path. We also build a flood of “What Hot News Story’s” all in support of our freedoms and something political strategists will take notice of.

For many of you, you are already doing it on a small scale, just make a concentrated effort to spread support for gun rights among your networks of friends, fans and family. It is easy, if you are on FaceBook just click the “Like Button” at the top or bottom of this page, if your on delicious, Digg, Reddit, Stumble Upon or Twitter click any of the links found at the bottom of this page. It is that simple, you just took the first step to support your right to keep and bear arms. Felt good right? Now just pick another article and do it again.

It definitely seems that our President is ready to NOT let Arizona’s most recent tragedy “Go To Waste”. Don’t let anti freedom forces, like the Violence Policy Center, Brady Campaign and Mayors Against Illegal Guns influence our politicians and impose more restrictions on your second amendment rights.

Start now and “Join”, “Like” and “Tweet” your way to more Freedom and Less Gun Control.

An armed man is a citizen. Lee Ermey. Ermey is a spokesperson for SOG (www.sogknives.com), the favored brand for specialty knives and tools by the military, law enforcement, industrial tradesmen and outdoorsmen worldwide.

The SHOT Show is the world’s largest and most comprehensive trade show for professionals involved with the shooting sports and hunting industries, and is the premier showcase of combined firearms, ammunition, outdoor apparel, optics and more. It will be held at the Sands Expo & Convention Center from January 18-21. Full information can be found at www.shotshow.org.

Double Headed Axe (F12-N)
The SOG Double Headed Axe lets you get medieval when you work. Based on the construction and durability of the world renowned Tomahawk, but with a heavier two edged head, this formidable axe can shape, split and cut wood, harvest timber, as well as be used in military/LE operations for breaching, extraction, etc. It is big enough to exert significant power with a two-handed grip but light enough to use with a single hand.

FastHawk (F06T-N)
The SOG FastHawk is faster, lighter, more agile, and easier to carry than its sibling the Tactical Tomahawk. This is not to say it is not still powerful, versatile, and functional. It is a tool that will be used for much more than you might anticipate. Chopping, breaking, cutting, hammering, piercing, digging, prying, pounding shaving, notching, opening and throwing are all capabilities well within the FastHawk’s reach.

Forge (FG01-L)
The SOG Forge evokes a period in Japanese history when honor was the most highly coveted virtue; It was a time when everything was handmade with meticulous care. A good knife or sword was meant to last for life- and as such, The Forge is built using both traditional and modern methods. It projects a sense of elegance and sophistication at the same time- The VG-10 san mai blade is hammer forged creating the distinctive pattern and the handle is precisely fitted using a stepped topo design for exemplary balance and feel. And because so detail is overlooked, the sheath is as good as the knife- crafted in Japan from thick rich leather, with a splash design stitched into it’s face. A beautiful collectors item.

Flash II Tanto (FSAT-98)
The Flash II Tanto has got to be one of the coolest knives we’ve ever seen. Forget its wicked-quick blade access, that it handles like a race car on rails, or that it locks up like Alcatraz. It just looks and feels extraordinary. The Flash family of knives feature SOG Assisted Technology ™ (S.A.T.), which employs a powerful piston lock that is easily released with a sliding button.

The Flash II Tanto (Partially Serrated) comes standard with glass-reinforced Zytel™ handle and partially serrated edge, Satin finished tanto blade. All Flash knives come standard with SOG’s patent pending, reversible bayonet mounted clip that ensures the lowest, most discreet carry possible. We also had the foresight to incorporate an additional safety lock that gives added security when the blade is closed.

About:
SOG was an acronym which stood for Studies and Observations Group. Sanctioned to develop and purchase their own equipment, SOG created several knives for use in one of the harshest environments in the world. It was in the spirit of this elite group, and the quality equipment they commissioned, that SOG Specialty Knives and Tools was founded in 1986 by Spencer Frazer. Visit: www.sogknives.com
Tags: Ammoland.com)- The Central Adirondack Friends of NRA committee in Hoffmeister, New York, are the winners of a Friends of NRA Facebook contest.

Held with the intention of getting more volunteers and supporters involved with Friends of NRA on social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter, the contest saw nearly 70 Friends of NRA committees participate.

“Utilizing social networks is a great way to quickly and easily coordinate events,” said Jeremy Greene, Event Services Manager.

“With contests like this, Friends of NRA hopes to introduce its supporters to the advantages of these services.”

The rules of the contest were simple: “Like” the Friends of NRA Facebook Fan Page and make a post stating which committee you belong to. At the end of the week, the committee with the most posts would be declared the winner.

For having the most posts, the Central Adirondack Friends of NRA received a Special Edition Dick Kirby Turkey Call, 1 of 250, to auction off at their upcoming banquet. Committee member Paul Shaw was the critical element in its win, mobilizing friends and supporters to participate.

“He is such a motivated volunteer, the spark plug of the committee,” said Jay Rusnock, NRA Field Representative for Upper New York. “If anyone could win this competition it would be him.”

Shaw is no stranger to making his committee run smoother with technology.

“When we started the committee in 2004 we were sending out invitations by mail. We realized we were wasting a lot of money and time so we started collecting names and utilizing a database,” he said. “We use the Internet and emails to get our word out and we’ve been very successful. You have to seize the power of the Internet.”

Friends of NRA is a grassroots fund-raising program that fosters community involvement, raises money, and gives 100% of the net proceeds to qualified local, state, and national programs. Working with the NRA’s field staff, thousands of volunteers nationwide participate in the program by organizing committees and planning events in their communities.

Central Adirondack’s Friends of NRA banquet will take place September 18, 2010, at the Morehouse Recreation Center in Hoffmeister, New York at 5:30 PM. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- I don’t know about you, but I have to watch the Wizard of Oz with my daughter several times each year. In fact, it seems like I always have the song, “Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!” swirling around my head.

As I was thinking about e-mail, Facebook, YouTube, texting, blogs, forums and Twitter, a similar tune popped in my head – “E-mail, Facebook and Twitter…Oh My!”

I know, it’s silly and I know that all of you rough and tough outdoor guys are going to laugh a little (or maybe a lot), about me watching the Wizard of Oz! Come on, haven’t YOU ever had to watch it with your kids? I promise I watch John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies too…

Anyway, who on earth knows what all these funky so-called “social media” things are?

Well, simply put, these are new communications tools helping us all keep up with family, friends and even co-workers. In a way, they are almost like a “virtual sportsmen’s club.”

It seems like just yesterday folks were joining a sportsmen’s club to have place to shoot, meet up with other hunters, anglers and shooters to talk about what you did in the field. Some of the best memories come from shooting the breeze with good friends and talking about the “one that got away” or that impossible shot you pulled off. You could walk in the clubhouse and there would be a pot of coffee brewing, deer heads on the wall, the American flag in the corner and you’d recite the “Pledge of Allegiance” before the meeting.

Of course, this is still what a lot of us do. Nothing will ever take the place of good, old fashion face to face time at a local sportsmen’s haunt.

Social Media Connecting More Sportsmen
But, social media is providing us with another way to talk to each other.

Think about it, they are now making it easier than ever to post your deer picture or the video showing how hard you fought that Largemouth Bass on YouTube. Your friends, even the guys you met last year on that hunting trip out west, can comment on it. You can also e-mail the pictures to tons of friends from around the country or even text your buddy sitting in that duck blind a few hundred yards away to check up on how his day’s going.

While the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance is still pretty “old school” on a lot of things (phone calls and personal letters still count in our book), we’re also working hard to get into this new world.

We have a Facebook page, a Twitter page, a YouTube page and a CamoSpace page. Also, one of our biggest efforts to date is the Sentry Program that through email gives you access to important information on how to protect your hunting, fishing and trapping rights. It also lets you easily pass it all on to lots of others.

We have a Sentry website that’s a one stop shop for things like hunting regulations, maps and weather. There’s contests running now and then and has a place to pin up your photos. Like I said, it’s kind of like a “virtual sportsman club” and its all yours at NO COST. Just need to give us a name, email, zip and phone number at www.ussportsmen.org/beasentry.

Get involved with the group that’s keeping it legal for everyone and check us out at all of our social sites. Be a part of our virtual sportsman club today!

About:
The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance is a national association of sportsmen and sportsmen’s organizations that protects the rights of hunters, anglers and trappers in the courts, legislatures, at the ballot, in Congress and through public education programs.
