title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- “MidwayUSA will continue to be a non-stop supporter of youth hunting, shooting and hunter’s education,” says Larry Potterfield, Founder and CEO of MidwayUSA.

“We believe in supporting programs whose mission is to preserve the future of youth shooting sports. The rifles we’re donating to YSSA will be auctioned off and the proceeds will directly benefit their Equipment Loan Program.”

In 2010, the YSSA developed a practical plan to organize and administer an industry-wide firearms loaner program for supporting youth programs. The inventory available for loan currently stands at nearly 400 firearms and includes rifles, shotguns and pistols. Because of the popularity of this program with Boy Scout Councils, 4-H and other shooting sports programs, the loaner inventory is expected to double by the summer of 2013.

“The majority of shooting sports equipment is needed by youth programs for limited or seasonal use,” said Steve Miller, Executive Director of YSSA.

“Equipment may be intensively used during selected seasons and languish in storage for the remainder of the year. This noteworthy donation in support of our Equipment Loan Program will allow the YSSA to provide more efficient support to youth shooting sports programs.”

MidwayUSA wanted each rifle shipped with a case, and Plano Molding Company supported this effort by donating over 500 cases to the YSSA to use for this program.

“Plano is proud to partner with Larry and Brenda Potterfield in this generous donation to the YSSA,” said Steve Jongebloed, Director of Sales for Plano Molding Company.

“Whether it be a youngster’s first gun case or first tackle box, Plano has been a proud supporter of youth outdoor education since 1952.”

About MidwayUSA
Steyr Arms

TRUSSVILLE, Alabama --(Ammoland.com)- Steyr Arms has announced that it will donate a limited edition Jeff Cooper Scout Rifle Commemorative Package to the annual Gunsite Alumni Shoot (GAS Match), which will be held Oct. 2 at the Gunsite Academy in Paulden, AZ.

The rifle will be used by competitors in the Scout Rifle Side Match and will be awarded to the shooter with the highest score in the Scout match. All proceeds from the Scout Rifle Side Match will be donated to the Jeff Cooper Legacy Foundation.

The GAS Match was created in 1984 by legendary small-arms expert, author and founder of what would later become the Gunsite Academy, Marine Corps Lt. Col. John Dean “Jeff” Cooper (1920-2006). “A social event only slightly interrupted by gunfire,” the GAS Match was designed by Cooper to be a practical and realistic competitive course of fire. The only prerequisite to compete in the GAS Match is to have attended one of Gunsite’s courses lasting three or more days. The match is limited to the first 125 Gunsite alumni who apply.

Cooper worked with Steyr Arms through much of the 1990s to create his signature rifle, the Steyr Scout. With a Steyr SBS action, a lightweight cold-hammer-forged barrel chambered in .308 Win., an integral bipod, back-up iron sights, an extra magazine held beneath the butt of the polymer stock, and paired to a forward-mounted long-eye-relief scope, Cooper’s Scout was heralded as the ideal general-purpose rifle chambered in the ideal general-purpose caliber.

“This year at the GAS Match, the Steyr Scout comes ‘home’ to Gunsite,” said Jane Anne Shimizu, Gunsite Academy director of marketing. “Much of the Scout’s design criteria was hammered out right here at Gunsite, and it was through his relationship with Steyr that his ultimate rifle was created. Steyr Arms’ gracious donation of a complete Scout rifle with all the accessories and adorned with the Colonel’s logo—exactly as the very early rifles came—is a wonderful addition to this match.”

The Jeff Cooper Scout Rifle Commemorative Package, which recently became available to customers, is chambered in .308 Win., and it sets in the original “Scout Gray” stock highlighted by the “JC” crest-of arms. A 2.5X 28mm Leupold Scout scope is attached to the integral top rail via Steyr mounts. An attached Galco Ching Sling is also inscribed with the “JC” crest, as is the Boyt TAC541 soft case and the Boyt H44 hard case. The latter also boasts the Steyr Arms logo. To finish off the package, a hardbound copy of Cooper’s Art Of The Rifle is also included. The package has an MSRP of $2,975.

“I think its exceptionally fitting that we’re donating the rifle that Col. Cooper designed, in the very package that he prescribed, to his signature shooting match in the year that we’ve reintroduced it to the public,” said Scott O’Brien, CEO of Steyr Arms. “We’re honored that it will ultimately benefit law enforcement and help to preserve Cooper’s work through the Jeff Cooper Legacy Foundation.”

The Jeff Cooper Legacy Foundation is a non-profit organization that was created as a benefit to members of law enforcement. Its mission is to preserve, protect and defend the principle of self-reliance and the individual right of self-defense as espoused by Jeff Cooper. The Foundation provides scholarships for firearms training in the Cooper tradition, as well as preserves his writings and his personal collections for posterity.

Established in 1864 in Steyr, Austria, Steyr Arms is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious firearms manufacturers. Steyr’s comprehensive lines of premium hunting rifles and precision sporting and tactical firearms are technically mature, and their subtle elegance also communicates the harmony between appearance and substance. Steyr’s legendary SBS actions and cold-hammer-forged barrels are distinctive and unparalleled. class="wp-caption-text">THOR Global Defense Group

Southeastern Oklahoma --(AmmoLand.com)- Oklahoma based LOKI Weapon Systems, a subsidiary of THOR Global Defense Group, recently donated the first of ten custom built TR-15 rifles to the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) in Ada, Oklahoma. LOKI manufactures the THOR TR-15, an AR-15 rifle – and produces a variety of parts and accessories based on THOR designs. This donation (10 rifles) has a retail value over $15,000 but the real value is in the training opportunities it provides for Oklahoma’s peace officers.

When Larry Knesek, President & CEO of THOR Global Defense Group was asked why they made this donation he said, “The individuals who train here are the same men and women who are putting their lives on the line every day to ensure a safer society for all of us, it is truly an honor for us to provide them with the support and equipment they need.”

CLEET is the state agency, which is responsible for training the majority of Oklahoma’s peace officers. This donation will expand CLEET’s armory, which did not include any AR-15 tactical rifles until now. The TR-15’s will allow CLEET to offer an Advanced Rifle course to Oklahoma’s peace officers. CLEET Director, Dr. Larry Birney noted that “By expanding the armory at CLEET to include AR-15 rifles, we will be able to provide Oklahoma’s peace officers with advanced rifle training that was previously unavailable. By expanding our training opportunities, CLEET is preparing officers for all types of situations, thus increasing the level of safety statewide.”

The TR-15 rifle is used frequently by law enforcement agencies nationwide, and as part of this donation THOR has agreed to allow communities with graduates from the CLEET Advanced Rifle course to purchase this firearm at a significantly reduced cost.

Senator Susan Paddack was one of those in attendance for the donation.

She stated, “This donation comes at a time when all state agencies are experiencing budget cuts and scaling back operations. Oklahoma is fortunate to have businesses that recognize the needs of state agencies and take steps to help them better serve our citizens.”

All those in attendance were not only impressed by the generosity of THOR/LOKI but by the superior quality of the firearms.

LOKI Weapon Systems is part of the growing firearms industry in Southeastern Oklahoma. For the past seven years, members from various organizations in southeastern Oklahoma have made the annual trek to the SHOT Show, the world largest shooting, hunting, and outdoor trade show, to attract new businesses to the area. Southeastern Oklahoma’s hunting industry is only a small portion of what makes the area an attractive location for firearms manufacturers. The gunsmith school at Murray State College provides quality employees for these manufacturers and CLEET’s training programs and East Central University’s Criminal Justice program provides access to key customers.

In addition to access to customers and trained employees, Southeastern Oklahoma provides unique opportunities to forge partnerships that allow numerous businesses to thrive.

Michael Southard, President & CEO of the Ada Jobs Foundation noted that “[THOR Global Defense Group] is an excellent example of how the businesses can partner with each other and improve the economic climate of the area. A&W Machine Shop in Coalgate supplies LOKI with parts, and Freedom Graphix in Ada customizes firearms for THOR’s customers. This is just the tip of the iceberg of partnerships that will be formed as the firearms industry continues to grow in the area.”

In January, members from Oklahoma Southeast, a regional economic development marketing group, the Ada Jobs Foundation, Murray State College, THOR Global Defense Group and Freedom Graphix will all travel to the SHOT Show in Las Vegas. By working together, these entities will not only promote Oklahoma- made products but showcase how Southeastern Oklahoma is a viable business location for this industry.

For more info on the TR-15, visit THOR’s website at FNH USA

McLean, Va. --(AmmoLand.com)- In the course of conducting a product demonstration, Bryan Piester, a regional sales manager for FNH USA, listened to some of the recent difficulties experienced by the New Roads, La. Police Department.

After the Department building was destroyed by fire in 2007 — along with several duty handguns — budgetary constraints prohibited replacement of the lost guns. Additionally, the duty weapons currently in use by the New Roads PD are over 10 years old: Parts from damaged guns were in use to keep the weapons safe and working.

Upon learning of the situation, Ken Pfau, vice president of law enforcement and commercial sales at FNH USA, donated twenty-seven FNP pistols to the New Roads PD, so that every sworn officer could have a brand new duty pistol at his or her disposal.

“There are a lot of law enforcement agencies out there struggling with reduced funding right now. This was an instance where we could really make an impact and help this Department, and we were glad to do it,” said Pfau.

Of the donation, Chief of Police Kevin A. McDonald had this to say, “We were in the process of doing our 10 year phase out – which is a longer time than most departments keep their firearms, and here comes FN – a blessing in disguise. This was truly a very great asset to the Department. As with most small agencies, we operate on a modest budget, and this generous donation means a great deal to us.”

FNH USA is the sales and marketing arm of FN Herstal, S.A., Belgium. class="wp-caption-text">Glock Pistols

SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. — -(AmmoLand.com)- The Scholastic Steel Challenge (SSC) announced that firearms maker GLOCK Inc. has donated 60 pistols, valued at nearly $42,000, to the new youth shooting program. Two of GLOCK’s most popular models, the model 17 and 19, will include four magazines each and will be used in support packages to help new SSC shooting teams get started in the program. The company will also offer special pricing on additional pistols to further assist teams as they grow.

“With GLOCK becoming a corporate sponsor of the SSC, we hold dear a twofold responsibility to perpetuate the growth of our industry and re-enforce the honor of our inalienable right to keep and bear arms by perpetuating the opportunities to participate in competitive shooting sports. As a community of shooters, we are all responsible for raising up a new generation of competitors from the ranks of the youth. The SSC is one such vehicle to make that mandate a reality,” said Josh Dorsey, vice president for GLOCK, Inc.

GLOCK is the latest company to join the Scholastic Steel Challenge effort. Already the program has received support from the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), Smith & Wesson, the Outdoor Wire Digital Network and Action Target which have committed over $100,000 in funding and product.

The Scholastic Steel Challenge is a national team-oriented youth shooting program developed by the Steel Challenge Shooting Association (SCSA) and funded in part by a grant from the NSSF. The program is open to young men and women ages 12 to 20 and offers them the opportunity to compete as a four person team for a national title in the action pistol discipline of speed shooting.

“GLOCK has been one of the primary leaders in the effort to expand competitive pistol shooting and the GLOCK Sport Shooting Foundation (GSSF) has done more to promote pistol shooting and build the ranks of practical shooting than any other industry program. Their generous support means that 60 teams will have championship proven pistols as they seek to make their own shooting sports history,” said Scott Moore, director of SSC.

For more information on the Scholastic Steel Challenge and the Steel Challenge Shooting Association please visit www.steelchallenge.com.

About SCSA:
Youth Shooting Sports Alliance

Nags Head, NC – -(AmmoLand.com)-The Youth Shooting Sports Alliance (YSSA) recently announced that O.F. Mossberg & Sons, Inc. has generously donated a collection of sparingly used shotguns to the YSSA in support of their new Donated Firearms Program.

Mossberg, the leader in introducing important design breakthroughs to the firearm industry since 1919, donated seven Mossberg Model 500C 20 ga. shotguns and twelve Mossberg Model 835 12 ga. shotguns to the program. Several of these donated firearms are Mossberg combo models which feature a combination of shotgun barrel and rifled barrel for different hunting applications.

The Donated Firearms program, featured on YSSA’s website www.youthshootingsa.com, encourages the donation of firearms which, in turn, will be sold on GunBroker.com – the web’s largest hunting and sport shooting auction. Firearms are listed without a reserve bid and are awarded to the highest bidder. The Youth Shooting Sports Alliance, a 501(c)(3) private foundation, will provide donors with a tax deductible receipt upon the sale of each firearm.

Mark Kresser, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Mossberg, states “We have enjoyed our partnership with the Youth Shooting Sports Alliance and we count on the recommendations of the YSSA regarding the youth shooting sports programs that promise the greatest potential for growth and participation levels. With their guidance, we are confident that our support will help elevate local shooting sports from ‘good’ to ‘excellent.’”

“The Donated Firearms Program provides an opportunity for sportsmen and women to donate their old guns and help the YSSA build the next generation of shooters” said David Baron, President of Baron Technology, Inc. and President of YSSA. Baron added “It may be just your old gun, but put in the right hands, it can help sustain the sport of shooting while strengthening the core values of the next generation of shooters and hunters.”

Mossberg’s products are built to world-class levels of manufacturing standards and for more than a decade, the Mossberg pump-action shotgun models have served as one of the most practical shotguns ever made. class="wp-caption-text">Youth Shooting Sports Alliance

Nags Head, NC - -(AmmoLand.com)- The Youth Shooting Sports Alliance (YSSA) received a “jump start” to its new “Donated Firearms Program” from the Savage Sports Corporation with a generous donation of 72 rifles and pistols.

Ron Coburn, Chairman/CEO of Savage Sports Corporation, and a passionate supporter of youth shooting sports programs, saw an opportunity to kick off this novel means of generating funds to purchase equipment and supplies needed by priority youth shooting sports programs nationwide.

Ron stated “I dug out a list of salesmen samples and writer’s guns that we have quarantined for future need. In reality, they will just sit around a long time. There are over 70 such items in all calibers- so there is something for everyone. The cumulative fair market value of these firearms is substantial, but again, they are just collecting dust and could use a good home.”

The Donated Firearms program, featured on YSSA’s website www.youthshootingsa.com, encourages the donation of firearms which, in turn, will be sold on GunBroker.com – the web’s largest hunting and sport shooting auction.
