class="wp-caption-text">SIG SAUER

EXETER, NH --(Ammoland.com)- In nearly every course we are asked a common question: What can I do to improve?

The response is the same nearly each time. If you are not conducting dry practice, you should start now.

Dry practice is simply practicing and developing your firearms skills without live ammunition. You can train nearly every part of your firearms manipulations minus the flash and bang of the muzzle and the cycling of the action. Dry practice is—in our opinion— one of the most beneficial methods of training with your firearm.

I put together a simple routine to help develop your basic pistol manipulations. This routine is a 5-session basic dry practice routine to get you started. This routine will cover topics learned in our 101 to 104 handgun courses. I encourage you to add to this routine and develop your own consistent with your level of training; what you create is limited only by your imagination.

©2012, SIG SAUER Academy

When conducting your dry practice I recommend the following equipment:

A safe training area

Designated clear and safe weapon with 3 empty magazines

Inert training rounds (10)

Two targets

Shot timer (optional)

Your dry practice should be conducted 3-5 times per week and last no more than 20 minutes. I often work through the scheduled session and repeat if any time remains. When conducting the training, I work at 50% or less speed, focusing more on consistent, perfect practice repetitions over speed.

To get started, you will need to make your weapon clear and safe. Remove all live ammunition from the area or room in which you are practicing. Select a safe direction to point your weapon and hang your targets. Set your timer and conduct a visual and physical inspection of your weapon again. Then, perform the scheduled session. Just like any other skill development, consistent training is the key to success.

Ammoland.com)- We are looking forward to an exciting year! Trade shows are in full swing.

Look for us in our new booth, with all the new products!

After trade shows we move right into Shooting School training courses. We kick off in San Angelo Texas March 1st with Western Lands Outfitters. We booked two classes full, so we added another for the 5th and 6th. This year, we are adding the option to hunt one of the many exotic species available. Food and lodging is included.

The combo Shooting School/Hunt has been a very popular combination. We’ve joined forces with Cabela’s and Frontier Outfitters to offer a two day shooting school combined with a two day antelope hunt in New Mexico starting August 24 through the 27th. We will train for two days using Gunwerks shooting systems, then take the gear to the field to test your skills. For info, click here.

The most exciting Combo will be in South Africa this August with John X Safaris. Imagine an opportunity to learn from the Gunwerks crew, then spend a week on safari applying your skills on over 700,000 acres of land open to free ranging game. In between Shooting Schools, the Gunwerks crew will be filming clients for TV and DVD production (we’ll try to fit in a little hunting for ourselves!) Click Here for more information on this exciting opportunity!

Gunwerks will be traveling to Canada this spring. First to Calgary, Alberta then to Kamloops, British Columbia. Our exclusive Canadian distributor, Grouse River Outfitters, has arranged two excellent locations for our Canadian premier training events in April.

We are doing our fourth year at Western Lands Outfitter’s Ensign Ranch location in Utah near Evanston. This is our high mountain course with steep angles and tricky winds. The food is always the best, we usually put on a couple pounds!

Our last location is a new one for us. Near Flagstaff Arizona, we’ve found the perfect location for an Ultra Long Range Shooting School. In addition to our standard shooting systems, we will be shooting big guns at ranges out to 2000 yards! We will teach a special course with a focus on multiple wind calculations and other Ultra Long Range techniques.

We will also feature training courses at our location near Cody Wyoming. We offer dates every month from May through October. Spend your summer vacation in Cody and take in the sites. Tour the Gunwerks facility, and shoot on our own private range. Click Here to visit our Shooting School Page.

To visit with a Gunwerks rep about booking, please call us directly at 307.762.3240 (toll free 877.GUNWERKS). class="wp-caption-text">AmmoLand Gun News

Manasquan, NJ --(Ammoland.com)- New Year’s is just behind us so it’s traditionally a time to be thinking about what to resolve to do better this coming year.

Keeping fit usually tops the list of promises we make to ourselves at the start of each new year, but it is also one of the most difficult resolutions to keep up with.

A workout designed around exercises that would benefit one of your favorite hobbies might inspire more commitment. What if each repetition in the gym (or basement) added some extra punch to your overall fitness when engaging in firearms sport or training?

Building a strong core is always an important foundation with any extended use of specific muscles groups as well as for endurance and balance. Basic floor exercises including crunches, scissor kicks and other exercises that strengthen the abdominal muscles are going to be the foundation for everything else you do in your workouts. A fatigued body will rely on a strong core to ground it. But there are some exercises that pay specific attention to strengthening muscles that will be used when holding firearms out at arms’ length for long periods of time.

When I started taking more advanced shooting classes I started to think about how I could use my daily workouts to target the muscles used to sustain the long periods holding and maneuvering my firearms. I was already working with a personal trainer, Fabian Thorne at Built 2 Last Fitness (www.built-2-last.org), so we discussed how to include exercises in my training sessions to target the specific muscles used in shooting.

There are obviously many strength building exercises but here are three easy ones you can add as part of a regular program and that can offer results to reduce strain on tired muscles.

Hold both arms out straight to your sides and rotate them clockwise in small tight circles for 100 repetitions. Then do the same in counterclockwise motion. This will build strength in the muscles used when holding arms outstretched for great periods of time. Add hand weights as you increase your endurance.

In the next exercise, sit down and take a five pound dumbbell in one hand (or whatever weight is appropriate for you fitness level). Rest your wrist on the edge of your knee and move your hand up and down at the wrist. This movement will build strength in the wrists which help hold heavy objects in outstretched arms, where disproportionate weight is being held in one hand.

Balance is also as important as muscle strength when incorporating movement into training exercises. To improve balance, try alternate side forward leg lunges while holding five or ten pound dumbbells. Begin with eight repetitions on each leg. When returning to the center standing position after each forward lunge, include an arm curl and when doing lunges in the reverse direction include an arm raise as you return the leg to the center standing position. Repeating lunges several times on each leg improves balance and strength.

Generally, it can be helpful to train under the conditions you will find your mind and body subjected to in a particular situation. For example, law enforcement officers will train with firearms simulators to imitate situations where the mind will have to make a split second decision as to a threat and then take action. Training courses that teach shooting on the move and under stress are good ways to test how an individual will respond in an unusually difficult situation.

However, the best way to prepare physically is to be in the best shape possible. A regular exercise program to strengthen the core muscles, with special attention to the muscles used in shooting (as in the exercises listed above) may provide an advantage in combating muscle fatigue; for example, from holding a gun in an outstretched arm for a long period of time – possibly even hours as in police crisis situations.

If you enjoy your workouts as much as I do, then the added knowledge that the exercises you are performing may also benefit your shooting skills could give you that extra incentive to keep up the program this New Year.

(For more information on personalized sports targeted fitness programs contact Fabian Ammoland.com)- Data recently released by the National Center for Health Statistics shows that in 2008, the number and per capita rate of firearm accident deaths fell to an all-time low.

There were 592 firearm accident deaths (0.19 such accidents per 100,000 population) in 2008, as compared to 613 accidents (.20 per 100,000) in 2007.

In 2008, the chance of a child dying in a firearm accident was roughly one in a million.

Firearm accidents accounted for 0.5% of all accidental deaths; well below the percentages accounted for by motor vehicle accidents, falls, fires, poisonings, and several other more common types of mishaps.

Firearm suicides rose in 2008 because total suicides rose, but the percentage of suicides accounted for by those misusing firearms remained steady, at just barely over half. This is down from about 60% during the 1980s and early 1990s. The firearm suicide rate remained at just under 6 per 100,000, as it has been every year from 1999 forward. Contrary to claims made recently by some gun control advocates, firearm suicides among children are extremely uncommon, and in 2008, fell to an all-time low.

Firearm homicides (including self-defense, but excluding lawful shootings by police) declined in 2008. More recent data reported by the FBI, shows that criminal homicides declined in 2008, again in 2009, and again in 2010, to a 47-year low.

About:
Dylan Kenneson - Instructor - Sig Sauer Academy

Unfortunately for a shooter nowadays the excuse that a modern manufactured, out of the box handgun is “off” is generally not the case.

Subjects that are often overlooked or misinterpreted when dealing with handguns and precision should be looked at before the equipment is blamed.

There are only two things needed to make a successful shot, Stabilizing the Muzzle on the target (referenced by the sights) and Pressing the Trigger to the rear without adding extra movement to the muzzle. Directly related to the fit of the pistol to the shooters hand it is often neglected when a handgun purchase is made.

Would you by a pair of shoes that aren’t comfortable? Trigger Finger Placement on the trigger is important. If the index finger lands on the side of the trigger because of improper fit the possibility for unwanted movement taking place as the trigger is pressed can cause a miss down range.

With this statement being made the other subject is sights. Sight Picture, or how the sights are viewed on the target when the front and rear sights are aligned is a topic sometimes misunderstood by the shooter.

It is important to know where the bullet will impact in relation to your sights. Sights are often broken down into two types, point of aim/point of impact (commonly called “combat” sights) and traditional target sights (or six o’clock hold). Mixing a target hold with combat style sights will generally result in shots impacting low, and vice versa.

Keep these subjects in mind next time you find yourself cursing at your gun for not hitting the target!

SIG SAUER Academy
Wisconsin Carry

Wisconsin --(Ammoland.com)- Wisconsin Carry, Inc. firmly believes in, and advocated for constitutional carry this past legislative session.

While we were successful in putting constitutional carry front and center on the legislative and media radar, ultimately, Wisconsin’s concealed carry law that passed requires mandatory proof of training to be supplied with your application to the DOJ.

A hunters education certificate serves as proof of training as does your DD214 showing honorable discharge from the military. In addition, a concealed carry permit (current or expired) from another state will also serve as proof of training.

Wisconsin Carry believes that there are thousands of Wisconsin residents who have extensive firearms experience but because that experience was gathered through family/friends/self-teaching etc they may not have the formal proof of training certificate.

We are also concerned that for many people in this economy, paying $80 to $150 for a training class may be prohibitive and prevent some individuals from being able to obtain the proof of training certificate they need to apply for their concealed weapon license.

Lastly, Wisconsin Carry believes that there are many people that may not have experience with firearms but who have a great interest in taking personal accountability for the safety of themselves and their loved ones. Wisconsin Carry would like to give these people an avenue to enter the right-to-carry movement in Wisconsin as well. We believe that the more law-abiding citizens carrying for self-defense, the more people who will be there to stand up and push-back should future legislatures try to take the right to carry away. We also believe that every law abiding citizen we can bring into the carry movement will be another voter who will not want to pay the renewal tax every 5 years to continue to exercise a human-right to self-defense that they have enjoyed. We believe these people will stand with us to demand constitutional carry from the legislature in the future.

In consideration of these factors and objectives, Wisconsin Carry has devoted a huge amount of resources into developing a 4 hour training course that will exceed the “proof of training” requirements of Act 35. We have certified a handful of qualified instructors across the state to begin to teach this class FREE OF CHARGE to members AND non-members who would like to obtain their concealed carry permit but are encumbered because they do not have a “proof of training” certificate.

We have already begun to schedule and conduct these classes across the state. Initial classes we have scheduled on a limited basis and announced only to dues paying members to ramp up slowly and manage the demand.

I will be sending email notification around of all classes that have openings. /> Wisconsin Carry, Inc. is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the preservation and reclamation of the rights of law-abiding Wisconsin residents to carry in the manner of their choosing. We believe that “open carry” and “concealed carry” are choices to be made by law-abiding citizens based on their situation and preference. Wisconsin Carry, like many gun-rights organizations in Wisconsin, is investing a great deal of resources to get Wisconsin law changed to allow concealed carry this next legislative session by proposing Constitutional Carry. Wisconsin Carry, Inc. will continue to use legal recourse to deter unlawful treatment of law-abiding Wisconsin residents who currently exercise their right to open carry, and soon will exercise their right to concealed carry in Wisconsin. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Anyone who has been around hand guns for any amount of time can tell you the importance of a weapon reload.

A couple of the obvious concerns are usually how fast can my reload be accomplished? How can I make my reload even faster?

With this you will get the several schools of thought that mention spare mag placement and orientation.

However, how often do we talk about when and where? When should you take that split second to conduct a mag exchange and where is the best possible place for me to accomplish it?

While on the range in our sterile environments, we try to create the stress needed to get officers [and shooters] to build that muscle memory needed to conduct this motor skill. In doing so, we focus primarily on a mag exchange that results in a properly seated magazine producing sustainable firepower.

We often mention that we have to be mobile and we try to instill the two basic types of reloads:

Combat

Tactical reloads

The combat reload is simply conducting a magazine exchange while still under the threat of hostile fire. This type of reload focuses primarily as discussed before (a properly seated magazine producing sustainable firepower). With a combat reload, your moving to some sort of appropriate cover as fast as you humanly can!

The tactical reload is often conducted after that initial confrontation, where the officer [or shooter] has selected appropriate cover and has the mental ability to realized that they a mag exchange is needed. With a tactical reload, your focused on secondary subjects (keeping your eyes on the bad guy), your weapons status and maintaining that exchanged mag.

Regardless of your situation, you’re going to react to your training. This is why instructors spend countless hours trying to tailor their training so that their students have something to refer back to. Understanding how you will react under stress is an import factor. Exposure to scenario based training can definitely enhance or maintain this perishable skill.

So, you ask your self, what should I do if I can’t remember which type of reload to do?

The Answer to that one is simple, If your gun locks back, FIX IT! and keep moving! Don’t get locked back on what to do!

About the Author:
Ammoland.com)- RAP4 Israel is proud to be the official training facility for force-on-force drills for Yamam – the Israel SWAT team!

With our extraordinary indoor facility, glassed-in viewing area, assortment of props, and strong ties with training officers in the Israel Defense Forces, RAP4 has created the perfect training environment for this frontline hostage rescue and law enforcement team.

RAP4 provides support in the form of a leading-edge, multi-story training facility, and the gear that reproduces the M4 carbines and sidearms the Yamam carry on duty. Our RAP4 Israel facility boasts multiple rooms, some accessible through theatrically destroyed walls that mimic the damage found after bombings, including a large central hall where bunkers and props can be moved freely! Vehicles are used to simulate traffic stops and searches, actors are moved in with crates and produce to create realistic market scenes, and the room plays host to other custom-created scenes that reproduce authentic environments…right down to live actors!

Members of the Israel Defense Forces are often tapped to play the opposing forces for Yamam drills, where their training puts the SWAT officers to the test! From hostage negotiation, to laying siege to occupied rooms and vehicles, RAP4 Israel is able to create realistic force-on-force training.

Much of that involves the use of RAP4 T68 paintball markers, RAP4 Pistols and Tactical Gear. With RAP4′s impressive attention to detail, these markers point, handle, and even operate identically to the gear the Yamam officers carry on real missions…

…and the array of RIS rails, including RIS handguards and flat top receivers, allows personnel to customize their T68 markers with the exact same optics and accessories they have on their duty arms. That means that their training is as real as it gets!

The opposing forces can also be armed with RAP4 AK and Tacamo AK – pattern markers, which outwardly replicate the AK family of arms. With the same look and feel, profile and aesthetics as the real deal, the Yamam officers must face down identical reproductions of the arms they often face on the job – a level of authenticity that takes training to a whole new level.

To check out an exciting video showing some real training at the RAP4 Israel facility, check out the video on the RAP4 Israel homepage here: 20th Law Enforcement Training Camp earlier this year.

While pondering some of the unfortunate recent tragedies that have struck the law enforcement community nationwide —including a higher percentage of lethal attacks against police officers as well as the accidental shooting death of a 24-year-old corrections officer— I thought I’d offer some tactical tips to law enforcement training instructors.

Now, although this piece mentions officers and may be geared towards law enforcement in general, all the points can most definitely apply to the tactical shooting community as a whole.

Here’s my advice:
Repetition is the law of learning. The more students accurately perform a variety of techniques, the more comfortable they will become. Tactical training drills allow officers to develop individual skill and assist in building muscle memory.

Muscle memory is a kinesthetic phenomenon whereby specific muscular patterns and movements become ingrained. When movements are repeated over and over, eventually these movements can be performed without conscious effort.

Under such extreme stress, cognitive ability is diminished and thought process is narrowed acutely. When facing the stress of lethal confrontation, officers should not have to think about basic weapons manipulation or marksmanship fundamentals; if they have to think about these basic fundamentals under stress, their chances for losing increase.

On the other hand, regular practice and difficult, realistic, and challenging drills will increase survivability. Repetitive training, therefore, is vitally important when considering survival and life-saving tactical techniques.

As with any type of improvement, officers can never increase their ability unless they fail on occasion. No person can develop unless they try something new and push themselves to the limits. Failure or imperfection on a specific technique or drill is likely to occur. The idea is to have officers meet successes. Small improvements provide satisfaction which, in turn, buoys individual esteem and maintains interest and encourages persistence.

As a training instructor, here are some of the key points to remember during every range training opportunity or any tactical firearms training period.

1) Individuals that are considered “experts” in their chosen field are extremely good at the fundamentals. Focusing on the basics is a positive thing. On occasion, give students something fun too. No one wants to be bored at the range.

2) When training, it is important to remember the end goal: preparing for lethal confrontations. In order to maximize training, (a) the individual shooter should envision that each and every shot during the tactical evolution is, in reality, a lethal force situation; and (b) trainers should mimic real world events. For instance, in my last custom tailored Patrol Rifle Course, I had police officers wear the same Active Shooter go-bag that they carry in their squad cars. I had them reload from that pouch. The feedback was positive, mostly because the training mimicked real circumstances. In short, train as you fight. Don’t say, “In reality we’d do this but we’re not going to train like that.” That’s cheating yourself and your team of valuable training! Cheating or foregoing reality will get someone hurt or killed in the long run.

3) Give students several tools to fill up their tactical toolbox, but focus on what will work best. Remember, it’s not a good tactic if it doesn’t work well (a) on the move, (b) in low-light, or (c) under stress.

4) Start out slowly. Speed will come in time. Or, perhaps once you’ve done some drills at full speed, slow down to quarter or half speed until techniques are perfected, then speed back up.

5) Weapons handling skills can increase dramatically without ever shooting a single round. Dry and/or dummy round training periods are extremely helpful and are all too often overlooked. The nice thing about that is the price is right. With the budget crunch, remember, weapons handling skills doesn’t mean you have to shoot a lot of rounds. In fact, dummy rounds work wonders.

6) Firearms are inherently dangerous. Safety briefings and safety are occasionally thought of as the same thing; we’ve said it and we’ve heard it said a thousand times. Unfortunately, it’s under that premise when accidents happen. Don’t think it will never happen here. Creating an atmosphere where everyone’s comfortable enough to say, “Watch your muzzle” or “Get your finger off the trigger,” is essential. No egos among the instructors or the students. Remember, always keep safety first.

Use these tips for a safer, and more effective, training environment and continue to hone your skills and keep adding to your tactical toolbox.

About Jeffrey Denning
Ammoland.com)- Event Description: Introduction to the AR-15/M-16, first in a series of rifle classes.

This 4 hour class will focus on rifle nomenclature, how to disassemble and reassemble the rifle, how to clean it, inspect a pool gun for proper assembly and function prior to your start of shift, common function problems, lubrication, parts failures, and the why/how they work. Functional knowledge of your weapon system is vital to keep it up and running, and will allow the shooter to make better use of future training sessions.

This block of instruction is being offered separately from the other rifle classes, 102, 103, etc, to allow for more range/trigger training time for the shooters in those classes, and will minimize time spent on rifle malfunctions due to improper lubrication and assembly. The goal is for shooters to be comfortable with why their rifle works and be able to focus their future training energy and time on the new skills at hand.

Requirements for this class are an AR-15/M-16 rifle, clear safety glasses(no tint), notepad and pen. Class will be taught inside a heated classroom, there will be no live fire.

This class will last approximately 4 hours, depending on the needs of the attendees. I am off that day and have not set a specific time because I want to get your feedback and hold the class when it is convenient for the most people. Please post a comment to this event stating the time(s) that day that would be the best for you, if you plan to attend, majority wins.

Maximum class size is 18, price is $10. Payment via PayPal will be set up shortly.

See more details (you may have to register to sign in) and RSVP on Women’s Tactical Association: http://tiny.cc/gg9eo

About:
Ammoland.com)- I hope your Holiday season is off to a happy start.

For the next WOD, I wanted to post a couple short videos to quickly explain it and make it easier for those of you who have never practiced this skill, but my cell phone camera and my MacBook are refusing to speak the same language they both spoke a month ago.

I also figured most of you would not miss a WOD this week with everything else going on family/Holiday/work wise.

This WOD focuses on drawing and firing using ONLY your support hand. Get your body armor set up in such a way that you can dry fire at it. Now unload your pistol and put all ammunition in another room. Lock the slide back, stick your finger in the chamber and make sure physically you have an empty chamber and mag well. Slide forward and press check, look away, and press check again, reholster. Do not just rack the slide several times and hope the extractor does its job.

Drawing & Firing a Handgun Using ONLY Your Support Hand

Tuck your gun side hand into the back of your waist and forget it is there. Reach over with your non-gun hand and grab your holstered pistol. If you cannot reach it, pull the holster towards your front. If your belt will not rotate, switch out your velcro inner belt for a leather one, or reverse the velcro to the inside.

Now grab your holster and pull it towards your front. If you still cannot reach it, you may want to consider downsizing, not for vanity, but for the ability to perform a potentially life saving skill. If you can reach your holster where it is, or have pulled it over a little bit and now can reach it, defeat your retention. If you have a Safariland ALS holster, rotate the hood forward and grasp the holster so your thumb is on the ALS button and your middle finger is where the front strap meets the trigger guard.

Push back on the ALS button and lift up with your middle finger. If you have a Blackhawk holster, the hardest part should be finding a way to press the side button and lift up on the pistol at the same time. Once you start playing
around with this, I hope you understand why it is important to first practice this skill with an empty pistol as fingers are going everywhere. Some holsters will be much easier to draw from with your support hand than others, but regardless of which one you have, it is doable, and you can become quite proficient at it with some good old fashioned “finagling.”

There is nothing in the rule book that says you can’t pull the holster around towards your back, or how far to rotate your belt, you do what you have to do, so you can do what you have to do.

Once you get your pistol out of the holster, the next challenge is how to get it rotated around so you are not gripping it upside down. Once I’ve gotten my pistol partially out of the holster, I pull up just high enough to rotate the pistol so the magazine is pointing forward, and can then grip it in a proper support handed grip.

I then draw out of the holster and come in close to my body, muzzle pointed at the threat, to a retention position, then punch out to the threat and step into it with my support side foot. For a one handed grip, I grip tightly and point my thumb up, smooth press of the trigger, second sight picture, follow the threat to the ground, retract, scan 360, and back to the holster the same way it came out. If you do not need to reset your trigger for every shot, then go ahead and give several trigger pulls while your pointed at the threat.

Drawing & Firing a Handgun Using ONLY Your Support Hand

Reholstering:You may find it easier to go back the same way you came out. Insert the muzzle into the holster with the magazine facing forward, lift up slightly and turn the pistol around so the magazine is facing the rear as it usually is, and insert it the rest of the way into the holster, secure your retention.

An option here is instead of drawing the pistol and rotating it in the holster so you can establish a proper grip, some shooters will draw the pistol from the holster gripped upside down, and place the slide against their chest, rolling the pistol over and obtaining a proper grip.

I’ve seen others draw the pistol upside down, place the muzzle on top of their cuff case, or other item on the front of their duty belt, and reverse their grip that way. If you consult the rule book, you will see there is nothing in it prohibiting any method as this is a bonafide, Holy Crap moment. You do what you have to do to get the job done. I highly recommend that you use your holster to rotate the pistol and get a proper grip, the first method described, because it is much easier to run to cover and do it that way without dropping your pistol. Once you find a technique that works for you, try it while moving/running and you may want to make some adjustments.

For this WOD, just stay static so you can figure out the draw, and Tuesday’s WOD will involve movement.

If you are having trouble with the WOD and/or have questions, feel free to shoot me an email got.1911sATgmail.com, or give me a call and we will work it out.

Next time I won’t wear a black coat as a background for a black pistol, but after several days of messing around with technical difficulties, I just didn’t have the patience to redo it.

A peek in to the future for WODs, we will focus on pistol skills for a while, then transition to rifle skills, and throw in some shotgun WODs if there is an interest.

Thanks for tuning in, Go Bears!

Kim

Visit Women’s Tactical Association at: http://womenstactical.ning.com/?xg_source=msg_mes_network

About:
Ammoland.com)- It’s amazing how dogmatic we can be… I was recently talking with an acquaintance that is an Iraq War veteran of the Marine persuasion. While describing working with another group he went to great lengths to deride them for carrying their weapons with the muzzles pointed up.

Fast forward one week to the evening news where I see a video clip of roughly 8 American soldiers clearing a stairwell (from bottom to top) in an Iraqi house all holding their weapons in a hyper-low CQB style ready.

A high shot up the stairwell would require swinging the muzzle upward over 150 degrees, not to mention the issues of the upper shooters unwittingly covering the lower shooters with their muzzles due to neglect. Sudden appearance of a threat that induces a startle response could easily lead to a negligent discharge down the stairwell that slots 2~3 friendlies.

Brian C. Hartman Low and Ready

WHY SO DOWN?
For the uninitiated, proper assumption of the high port involves a strong hand only carry with the muzzle at a strict vertical angle. The weapon is carried on the strong side, well off the centerline. The stock is aggressively sandwiched between the strong side elbow/ upper arm and torso. The support hand does not contact the weapon and as such remains free for whatever the mission dictates.

When boarding rotary wing aircraft it certainly makes sense to keep muzzles down as your life lines are the blades and gearbox overhead, but what about operating on small to intermediate size boats? If you are assaulting said vessel, you’re probably not too stressed about the paint job, however if it is your insertion platform you may kill the whole team or throw the mission into jeopardy.

The contact, low and depressed low readies have acquired an incredible amount of traction for a host of reasons. First is the proliferation of tactical slings.

Years ago it was incredibly common to see troops with muzzles high. M1′s, M14′s, Thompson’s, M16′s, shotguns and even Greaseguns were no exception. However, this was more of a lazy, hip assisted carry than a tactically driven ready position. With the advent and proliferation of the German MP-5, low-ready mania began to generate steam. The nimble sub-machinegun favored by special operations units, featured a unique proprietary sling that when looped in a particular manner around one of the users arms and neck, enabled the weapon to be carried hands free. The design was to allow for handgun transitions, breaching, climbing and prisoner handling… the result was swinging, loaded, unsafe weapons while scoring targets, policing brass, putting in a fresh pinch of Copenhagen or keeping your hands warm in your pockets. Contemporary low readies are a muddled combination of part hold and carry, and part gravity and sloth. The notion of letting nylon webbing dictate where your weapon points is lunacy.

During training I have directed students to assume a high ready or high port and quite matter-of-factly been told, “I can’t with this sling.” This is unacceptable. It is for this reason that some British special operations units forbid the use of a sling at all. Your equipment should work for you, not the other way around.

Second is speed. Low readies work great on the square range. An unobstructed shooter with the toe of the stock properly mounted in the pocket of the shoulder can very quickly, aggressively and efficiently bring the weapon to bear. Yet with proper training, we have proven that the weapon can be mounted nearly as fast from a high port as from a hyper-low ready. However that does not necessarily make it suitable or safe for all environments and conditions.

And third is the issue of the quasi-testosterone fueled image… guys think it looks cool to have that weapon up front, muzzle down and lashed to 6 yards of a cats cradle. If you fall into this latter category, you’re probably the kind of guy who would defend wearing a drop holster with shorts and a tank top.

ISSUES WITH THE LOW READY
Weapons held with the toe of the stock in the shoulder present three primary problems.

Field-of-View Limitations
The sheer mass of the weapon held at 45 degrees or higher, acts as a blind obscuring the shooters field-of-view from any obstacles or hazards on the ground. An adversary whose toe is flagging around a corner might be missed if ones light, laser and optic addled weapon were to block it. Needless to say, a fully shouldered weapon can obscure the hands or chest of a potential adversary making threat assessment either incorrect or more time consuming.

Muzzle Discipline
When working as part of a team that is conducting bounding or peeling drills, a muzzle-down weapon is bound to sweep the torsos of teammates who are providing cover fire from either a kneeling or prone position. Hand in hand with this problem is that of interval. With a weapon in front of my body, I can only get so close to the teammate in front of me. If I’m truly muzzle conscious I will also have to modify my low ready into an offset (left or right) or uber-depressed elevation, which defeats the purpose of the low ready entirely. In addition, a sudden requirement to pivot left or right may result in prematurely raising the long gun, or getting caught on your buddies gear. With the muzzle up, the body is turned and the muzzle drops. Worst-case scenario, you will only be covering clouds or ceiling.

Balance
If the weapon is held low during high-speed (read: running) maneuvers, neither hand is free for balance. Maintaining your footing over uneven terrain can be life and death for you and the team alike. In addition falling with the weapon held in front of you will result in it being sandwiched between your body and the ground. We have seen such falls injure the operator, & worse yet, damage their weapon.

CONCLUSION
Low readies are fantastic, and the high port is not the end-all-be-all… no ready position or carry is! However, it is a very stable, reliable and safe technique for particular movements and terrain. Break free of your one-option shackles and embrace this exceptional tool.

Brian C. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Two dynamic and newly formed companies in the shooting industry have announced a strategic partnership that will propel both companies’ business models in the firearms training and education industry.

Rockcastle Shooting Center at Park Mammoth Resort in Park City, KY, owned and operated by Nick and Nathan Noble and Major General Jerry Humble USMC (RET.), has partnered with S&T Inc. and its subsidiaries INVICTUS and Labyrinth Guides. Owned and operated by Scot and Tom Spooner their company is one of the newest and most highly regarded tactical training and corporate consulting companies in the industry.

The facilities and grounds of Park Mammoth Resort and Rockcastle Shooting Center will soon become an important host sight and the base training operations for both INVICTUS and Labyrinth Guides. “This partnership is another example of two talented companies leveraging each others strengths. S&T Inc, can bring their clients into a world class training facility with a huge infrastructure, and Rockcastle gets to partner with an up and coming tactical training and corporate consulting company that is on its way to becoming the best of the best”, said Nathan Noble, COO of Rockcastle Shooting Center.

INVICTUS (www.invictusagi.com) specializes in customized tactical training for law enforcement and military customers. The leadership team brings over 64 years of Special Operations Organization experience to the forefront in beginning the paradigm shift in how tactical trainers and consultants conduct business. INVICTUS does not offer canned training or standardized courses, relying instead on experience based, truly informed customized training that focuses on the customer’s needs. The simple rule is, if the trainers do not have first-hand experience and true expertise in the customer’s area of interest, they bring in a specialized trained individual.

“The business and marketing savvy of the Nobles, coupled with the leadership and tactical prowess of the Spooners, will prove to be a melding of talent that will place Rockcastle in the industry spotlight for the unforeseeable future”, commented Scot Spooner, Co-founder of S&T Inc.

The Labyrinth Guides Inc. (www.labyrinthgc.com) leadership team is made up of individuals that have spent a majority of their careers within the United States elite Special Operations Organizations. class="wp-caption-text">Range Master

Memphis, TN --(Ammoland.com)- When a responsible person first begins going armed, he is usually haunted by two recurring questions, or self-doubts:

If I’m really attacked, and my life is at stake, will I be able to handle it?

What if I screw up and kill an innocent person?

This is a normal reaction, and to a degree it is healthy. We do, however, need to address these issues and resolve them, before a conflict, so that they will not raise their ugly heads when we should be concentrating on winning the fight.

Remember, if an unavoidable fight is thrust upon us, we MUST WIN!

The alternative can be death, or crippling injury. The first issue to face is that of FEAR. Fear is a normal reaction to physical violence for most people. In addition, since most of us no longer have military experience and live in “civilized” surroundings, we may not have ever actually engaged in a true fight before our moment of truth in a criminal attack. This fear of the unknown is, for many, worse than the fear of being hurt or killed.

First, let me say this. Unless you are an exceptional person, a nutcase, or a liar, and you have actually been involved in armed conflict, you have tasted fear. I’m not ashamed to say I have been scared several times, and I fully expect to be scared again before my life is over. What you must learn to do is control your fear, and do what you must to win.

Fear can be controlled and overcome, even in life threatening circumstances. This is obviously true, and it is proven every day by hundreds of ordinary people all over the country. Here are some

Steps you can take to make this process easier:

Admit to yourself you are afraid, then move on. Concentrate your mental energies on the task at hand, not on your fear of death, injury, or loss of ego.

Avoid dwelling on the chance of failure. Concentrate on finding a way to win.

Take control of yourself. Autogenic breathing is the very best and most efficient way to do this. (Details later.)

Focus on getting the job done.

Have a Plan B. Always, always, always, expect Plan A to fail. Expect your gun to malfunction. Expect the suspect to stay up after being hit solidly. Expect to be injured. If any of these things occur, have a pre-planned option to continue (Plan B).

Turn anger into a motivator. Who does this clown think he is?!? What makes him think he has the right to (rob/rape/kill/ pick one) me?!?

Accept an element of fate in every situation. You can get hurt by accident after doing everything right. Control everything you CAN control (selection of equipment, getting adequate training and practice, being alert, thinking tactically) so there are fewer things you CAN NOT control. Stack the odds in your favor and fate has a lot less impact.

Courage under fire is not a matter of being without fear. It is a matter of being able to control fear and accomplish your mission, which is to stay alive. Only fools are fearless.

The other nagging self-doubt concerns over-reacting and shooting someone under unjustifiable circumstances. If you are reading this, that will not happen. Citizens who are responsible enough to obtain carry permits, seek expensive training, make time for practice sessions, etc. are simply too honest, caring, and self disciplined to shoot people without just cause.

In my own state, there have been eight fatal shootings by permit holders in the past three years. Every single one was judged to be justifiable and lawful by the Attorney General’s office. Not one of these permit holders was charged with any crime nor were they sued for anything.

Why? Because every single case was clear-cut, obvious, and morally, legally, and ethically justified. Private citizens have a great reluctance to shoot, even when it is necessary. In fact, for many the problem they will face is the exact opposite of being “trigger happy”. Believe it or not, every day, people who are armed and know how to use their weapons, and who have an opportunity to use their weapons to save their lives, fail to do so and die as a result. This happens to both private citizens and police officers alike.

You ask, “Why on earth would someone who is armed stand there and literally watch a thug kill him?” There are a number of reasons, and they stem from the socialization process that the normal person goes through from birth (but that the criminal does not).

These reasons most often include:

Moral repugnance to taking a life: You have been taught all of your life that human life is sacred, that to kill is wrong, and that only bad people hurt others.

Failure to be mentally prepared: An astonishing number of people who go armed have never given any thought whatsoever to the fact that they may have to shoot someone. To many, the gun is a talisman, and wearing it is thought to ward off evil spirits. In fact, it is a tool, one used for regaining control of your immediate environment in an emergency.

Failure to understand the dynamics of armed confrontations: Many people armed with firearms are killed by thugs armed with edged weapons because they fail to take the “lesser” weapon seriously; they don’t understand that deadly force is deadly force, whether applied by gun or knife; and they don’t realize how quickly someone at ten feet can appear at one foot.

Inhibition by community pressure and fear of lawsuits: These are trivial matters compared to being killed, raped, or permanently crippled. Get your priorities straight! Unless you are alive, these don’t matter, anyway.

Uncertainty about when deadly force is justified: This is a training issue. Be certain that you understand the laws of your state as they apply to self-defense and the use of deadly force. Once you have internalized this information, it is simple and easy to see when the circumstances fit the law. There is nothing subtle about someone actually trying to kill you! It will be obvious to you, to any witnesses, and to the police.

The best way to be fully mentally prepared to actually press that trigger if you have to, is to develop a well thought out and plainly stated set of rules of engagement, long before you are faced with a crisis. This is referred to as a “pre-made decision”, thought out, verbalized, and firmly planted in your mind in advance.

I suggest the acronym IDOL, which stands for “Immediate Defense of Life”. Make a commitment that you will only fire as a desperate measure to terminate a threat to your own life, or the life of an innocent third party. If you pose an imminent and otherwise unavoidable threat to my life, or that of an associate (wife, partner, etc.) I will act swiftly and decisively to put you down and out. I will reach for my gun for no other reason, period.

Many people think about this incorrectly. They ask themselves, “If he does —-, can I shoot him?” That is a recipe for disaster! Your question should ALWAYS be, “ Do I have to shoot him?” Ask yourself, “If I don’t shoot this man, right here, right now, will I be killed or crippled?” If the answer is Yes, shoot him! If the answer is No, try something else.

As with most things, this is a matter of training. Proper training ingrains the proper responses. Repetition is the mother of all skill. With skill comes confidence. With confidence comes the ability to think under pressure and make sound tactical decisions.

To be of value to you, training must meet the test of the Three R’s. Training must be: RELEVANT REALISTIC RECENT.

Relevant training refers to exercises and skill drills pertinent to the task of self-defense. Bullseye shooting training, for instance, is not particularly relevant.

Realistic training is conducted on humanoid targets, from the holster, with a carry type gun and full powered ammunition, in varied lighting conditions, and under time pressure.

Recent training assures retention of motor skills, which degrade quickly. The skills involved in rapidly firing a full-power weapon with precision are perishable, and are lost completely without frequent practice. I suggest two or three sessions of dry practice at home each week, with at least one range session per month to maintain competency. Practice builds skill, skill builds confidence. Having a well developed skill set, and the confidence that well developed skill engenders, can help you keep your head and stay in control during highly stressful conflicts.

“An amateur practices until he gets it right. A professional practices until he can’t get it wrong.”

About:
Ammoland.com)- Movement is a critical component of surviving a combative encounter.

Armies understand the value of movement, boxers spend as much time on footwork as they do on punching, and offline lateral movement during close-range gun battles has been proven to drastically increase survivability.

Two or more combatants rarely remain stationary for very long while engaging one another with empty hands, knives, impact weapons or bullets.

Possessing the ability to move during a reactive incident provides numerous advantages, including escape, getting off the line of attack, opportunity to attain cover or concealment, alteration of one’s target profile, achieving a favorable angle of attack, and gaining a time advantage (however minor).

In simplified terms, moving targets are more difficult to hit, and a moving body is harder to isolate, entangle, and control.

All combative movement should initiate from a solid, balanced platform.

This will give you the ability to move rapidly in any direction, stability in case you have to absorb forward impact from one or more attackers, and flexibility to move over uneven terrain. This platform should replicate our instinctive body alarm reaction state as much as possible.

Virginia Citizens Defense League

Covington VA --(Ammoland.com)- John Pepper emailed me this item which discusses how to improve your time to draw you gun in an emergency.

John knows his stuff (“Pepper Poppers” that you have shot at in matches were the brain-child of John). I thought some of you might find this interesting.

Beating the Bandit
Practice and drill so you can get your pistol into action within one fifth of a second well within the reaction time of the bandit.

From concealment having to brush aside outer garment it takes much longer to get into action than the fifth of a second plus adding ones longer reaction time.

However if one has any warning due to their being “alert “, the first Principle Of Defense, they can reach under their outer garment to grasp the pistol grip yet still have it concealed so not brandishing as not drawn yet. Turning ones gun side away from threat aside from distancing the gun from threat somewhat hides the move. With the right rig on ones belt the pistol is still concealed. From this position already grasping the grip ones draw to firing is inside the one fifth of a second. For this desperation move the pistol starts firing as soon as it clears the holster at just above waist level continuing upwards as firing to get to alignment of either sights or point shooting. Effective at arms length to a few yards range. Very effective if close enough that muzzle is against the assailant as bonus of muzzle blast gas entering wound increasing cavity. Messy with muzzle against as you will be spattered with blood and matter. Most of a lifetime ago had this experience during a night encounter. Desperation would have one continuing to fire rapidly until assailant down and out of fight.

The above has to be practiced with much dry then once confident of moves live fire.

Economy Of Motion
Getting into action quickly practice consists of economy of motion. At intervals while practicing intentionally duplicate your moves in slow motion looking for unnecessary movement. It really helps if one has a buddy watching who may detect unnecessary movement then corrections made to eliminate them. Vice versa if your buddy is also improving his or her into action time. Done much as economy of motion improves muscle memory kicks in so under pressure one does as they conditioned via repeated self training drills. No buddy try a large mirror studying your movement from holster to firing.

Done right this is strenuous so after several drills a short break or switch over to buddies drills while you watch him or her for corrections.

One Fifth Of A Second
To determine the one fifth of a second is fairly simple. A bit of math gives answer as follows.

Needed is a block of wood about one inch by one inch by five or six inches long.

Grasp the pistol grip under your outer garment simultaneously pinning the block of wood against the side of the holster with your extended trigger finger in what is called the index position. As soon as your hand starts motion to draw the block of wood will fall to the floor making a thump sound when it hits the floor. If the hammer or striker mechanism of the pistol goes click before the thump of the wooden block the time is less than one fifth of a second. Practice strives toward,” Click – - Thump.”

Now the math. A falling weighty object falls approximately 32 feet the first second of decent so convert into inches. Measure from your waist holster to the floor in inches. Divide this into one second. The answer will be close to one fifth of a second, a slight variation depending on ones height.

A drill for the younger who haven’t yet suffered the ravages of age of being slower. – - – - Do not recommend this as live fire except for the highly experienced pistoleer.

The Desperation Drill
For a title I always called this: ” The Desperation Drill.”

Done right it is very strenuous so after about six or seven attempts stop and take a brief break. It is only practical to do this from open carry. As follows.

Extend your gun hand out flat back of hand upwards at waist level. place a weighty block of wood on back of hand large enough it will make an audible thump when it hits the floor. Snatch your hand out from under the block, draw and fire. If your hear Click before the Thump of the block hitting the floor you are well within the reaction time of an adversary at less than a fifth of a second. Importantly no matter how you have grasped the grip of the pistol there is no time for adjusting or improving your grasp as you must accept any variations and continue the draw and firing. Many do a fractions of second time loss grip improvement as they draw which for this drill will not work. However your hand happens to grasp the grip is what you have to go ahead with.

Expect to not always beat the drop of the block thump, but strive for it sometimes having a simultaneous click and thump or thump click.

As previous the pistol has to fire as soon as it clears the holster as no time to raise it to alignment level. At arms length or so defense one should get a hit. Of course in actual fight continuing fire alignment is achieved.

For those who are always concealed carry this open carry drill would only serve as a confidence builder.

Repeat. Recommend this only be done dry fire unless highly experienced shooting many thousands of practice rounds each year for a lengthy duration of years before trying this live fire. – - – Even at that some hazard exists.

Vigorous Movement Test
All of the above is predicated on an open holster without any retaining strap or flap.

Shape and fit of holster that has no strap or flap should retain the pistol firmly yet as soon as about a quarter of an inch or less movement break free for a smooth draw. A test we used here has one kneel on a mat then do a somersault forward. If the pistol falls out during this test the holster is unsatisfactory. Likewise for magazine or loader pouches on belt. Some holsters have an adjustable tension device that squeezes the holster which can correct the retention. As holster wears over time an adjustment of this device keeps it correct.

Another holster test some use is running and jumping yet not holding the pistol in the holster so it is hands free. If the pistol falls out it fails the retention test. Likewise for pouches on belt.

Either is usually called,” The Vigorous Movement Test.”

About:
AR15.com

Honeoye Falls, NY -(Ammoland.com)- Whether on the streets of Mosul or South Central Los Angeles there are several certainties: weapons fail, good guys get hurt and thugs are cowards who seldom travel alone.

Should the situation arise where you must use deadly force, breaking tunnel vision is crucial.

We have developed a principle based after-action checklist that those involved in lethal encounters can adopt to stop the action, prevent escalation and determine personal readiness to continue the fight. We like to refer to it as a checklist or process as opposed to a rigid drill since certain situations may not call for all or some of the elements.

I once had a discussion with a straight-faced SWAT officer who said that he did not need to ever train reloads or malfunctions on his long/primary weapon. He explained that if he ever used his sub-machinegun and it malfunctioned or ran dry, he would then go to his secondary/pistol. This of course would only happen if he shot someone, and concurrently their SOP required the officer who shot someone to stay with that suspect in that location. So for all intents and purposes one’s participation in the raid proper was over the moment he stopped pulling the trigger.

Brian C. Hartman, Chief Instructor, Progressive F.O.R.C.E. Concepts

The logic here is so flawed it’s painful. Remain flexible to the situation and not a slave to routine… think, why am I here? If the situation is an active shooter/rapid deployment scenario we will not abide by the pedantic notion of “you catch ‘em, you clean ‘em.” Said incident may require us to rush from a dead or dying attacker in search of additional threats, expediting steps of the process to follow at best and skipping steps at worst.

1) Is the adversary down?
Unlike Hollywood, people don’t go flying backwards when shot or die instantly. Even mortal wounds often take great time to fully exhaust adversaries.

You may have to command a screaming, gurgling, begging, aggressor to lie still or worse yet, re-engage them. If firing two rounds, be ready to fire three.

Firearms qualifications often have us firing stages where we shoot two rounds to the chest immediately followed by one round to the head. In real life, if we are reacting to the first two rounds “failing to stop” then we’re doing our officers a disservice. We should have the targets briefly turn away, and then reappear to simulate a remaining threat.

2) Is my weapon still operational?
During training it often amazes us just how often students will scan the area, or lower their alert level with either a gun that has run dry, or is in a state of malfunction.

With the weapon firmly held in a contact ready position, a simple bump to the rear of the slide, upward tip of the muzzle or rolling your long gun to expose the ejection port to your eyes should tell you most of story. Don’t get caught covering an adversary with an $800 chunk of steel.

3) Are there any additional threats?
Miscreants travel in pairs. Scanning an area left, right, high, low and to the rear for other adversaries is simply a good business practice. Do NOT fall into the trap of scanning once and thinking that you are out of the woods.

The man you just shot has an angry girlfriend who ran back into the house and to the upstairs closet where she retrieved (and loaded) a 12-gauge shotgun. Two minutes elapse between the last echoes of your shots and her re-emergence. Scanning is a continuous process. An area is only clear when you are observing it or physically occupying it.

The presence of a teammate to your rear may preclude the need to turn and scan. However if the possibility of your partner becoming scopelocked on your actions is an issue, sounding off “check six” might not be a bad idea.

4) Should I be moving?
The successes of maneuver warfare have proven that those who move first, most aggressively & dynamically have the ability to influence victory even if outgunned or outnumbered. Your scanning process needs to include identification and selection of positions of greater advantage. This could be as small as a lateral step placing a bench, counter or bike between you and your adversary. In a rural military context it may consist of a full 100 meter bound to a wadi or small knoll.

Remember that cover or a snipers nest in a church steeple is a lot like bananas… really good but it gets stale very quick.

5) Am I hit?
The massive surge of adrenaline through your body coupled with a heart rate that can climb to 225 beats per minute can easily cause injuries to go un-noticed. If you lack a partner to give you the once over, you may have to physically pat yourself down and hold the support hand in front of your face to inspect for blood.

However, don’t be misled… lack of blood does not mean you are uninjured, while profuse bleeding (such as from the head or face) is not always indicative of mortal wounds. The ability to self-administer life saving trauma care is imperative proper training & equipment is a must. Remember to breath and remain calm.

YOUR HOMEWORK
During your training, mix it up… work for 10 minutes without checking your 6, but immediately moving to a position of greater advantage. Then work 10 minutes where you immediately scan to the rear to simulate the perception of rapidly approaching footsteps. Then train a bit where you drop to a sitting position to simulate being struck in the leg. Assess your weapon and self, rendering aid accordingly.

If working as a team, you may have to take the initiative and unsexy task of breaking away from the action to check the unit’s rear, babysit unknowns or patch up an injured suspect.

The survival of you and your partner(s) may depend upon it. Stay safe & train hard.

Brian C. /> AR15.Com originated in 1996 as a mailing list for firearm enthusiasts. As the years passed and interest grew, a website came into existence to present those same enthusiasts with a means to collect, share, and explore information. Shortly afterwards, a bulletin board was added to create a more interactive experience for the growing list of users. The site was still in it’s infancy, but was growing in popularity. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- For years, I’ve carried one form or other of small impact tool as part of my everyday carry gear.

A number of excellent, highly concealable handheld tools that can be readily utilized for proactive or reactive personal protection are available today.

Small impact tools (SIT) offer the user another force option and are an effective force multiplier.

Most importantly, SITs are an excellent option for carry in non-permissive environments such as municipal facilities, hospitals and airports — places we may want to carry a more effective or devastating tool such as our handgun or tactical folding knife but cannot.

SITs share common movements with many practical empty-hand combatives skills, systems and point-driven edged weapon applications. SITs can provide the user with an alternative force option depending upon the circumstances of the situation.

Pulling a folding knife out of your pocket and striking with the closed folder are viable applications of non-lethal force, but in some jurisdictions may still be construed as you pulling a lethal-force tool. Some individuals are simply not comfortable carrying or deploying an edged weapon, but embrace the suggestion of a small handheld impact tool without hesitation.

READ THE REST OF THIS <a

Some may try to dissuade us from spotting this agenda by throwing around comforting banalities like “reasonable”, “responsible” and “common sense”, but more and more Americans are learning to ignore their words and watch their actions.

Obama even warned us to watch for such duplicity: “Under the radar” as he described it.

While the grass-roots so-called “gun lobby” applies counter pressure with whatever direction and force we can morally and financially muster, the authoritarian collectivists and cultural Marxists are funded by at least two BILLIONAIRES, George Soros and NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

So, with an understanding that America is likely headed towards more, not less, troubled times, and the parallel understanding that a controlling faction of our political and bureaucratic upper crust wants us disarmed, what is the average American citizen to do?

It cannot be more obvious: Buy more guns and more ammunition WHILE YOU STILL CAN.

Its The American Way
No law-abiding American home should be without reliable defensive firearms, whether a pump-action shotgun, handgun, or both. A rifle of some sort is of course a desirable addition to these basics. Learn how to use these firearms and to use them well. Jewish Law requires us to take defensive measures against threats we can expect or anticipate; these are the tools of defense against such threats.

If you are an urban dweller, it isn’t difficult to imagine a “flash mob” of “youths” raging down the street towards your home or business, leaving smashed cars, looted buildings, and bleeding victims in its wake. The “castle doctrine” and “stand your ground” laws of your state – and possibly of your city – will dictate when and how you are legally justified in using deadly force to protect yourself and others. Know these laws in advance as part of your preparatory training.

Jewish Law may allow you to use deadly force to defend any innocent bystander from violence, but Nanny States like New Jersey do not.

You will have to make split-second moral decisions if you see rioters physically attacking your neighbors or fellow business owners.

While the primary objective of armed self defense is to STOP THE ATTACKER, turning back a mob may very well involve more forceful measures. Ask yourself now, before you are in the situation, if you are prepared to take measures against multiple assailants. Can you live with yourself knowing that you left a dozen wounded lying on the pavement? Can you live with yourself knowing that you chose not to do so and instead allowed the mob to attack your neighbor?

In addition to your firearms, remember to keep an adequate supply of ammunition for each of your firearms. A couple hundred rounds of other common calibers, even if you don’t own a matching gun, is not a bad idea. You don’t want your neighbor, your brother in arms, running out of ammo, do you? The Brady Bunch may call that “hoarding” or “stockpiling”, but in Texas it’s just called “a few extra rounds” — “supplies for a rainy day.”

Rabbi Said What?
Why are you hearing this from a rabbi? I’m a man of peace. I relish life and respect the traditional American “live and let live” philosophy. This moral shelter has protected the Jewish people since our first arrival in America centuries ago. But the realization that it is the Second Amendment that protects the First has turned me into a gun owner, a certified firearms instructor, and then a co-leader of America’s most aggressive civil rights organization, Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership. The pen may be mightier than the sword, but the Jewish People have lived by the pen and died by the sword for millennia. We now live in a country that recognizes the G-d-given right of self-defense; to fail to exercise that right when threatened is to hold G-d’s gift of life in contempt.

I remember the anti-Jewish riots in Crown Heights, just twenty years ago. Could such a rampant outburst happen again? Can anyone deny the possibility?

Jewish community centers, synagogues, and even the Holocaust Museum have been attacked by gun fire; innocents have been killed, injured, and traumatized by violent acts of Jew hatred. I watch these events and understand them both as a Jew and as an American.

Far too many Jews have been on the wrong side of the issue of self-defense, helping to con our nation into “gun control” rather than fighting against it. There are far too many Bloombergs, Schumers, Soros’s, Feinsteins, Foxmans, and others, misguided or ignorant of Jewish history and Jewish Law, and they have been too loud on this issue for too long. I will not be silent in the face of their distortions and lies.

And so I recommend as a first step: Get a gun. While you still can. Exercise your Second Amendment rights. Rejoice in the freedom of America.

With blessings of Shalom,

Rabbi Dovid Bendory
Mako Defense

Farmingdale, New York --(Ammoland.com)- With the release of its DVD titled ISRAELI SPECIAL FORCES TRAINING: COUNTER TERROR CARBINE, Mako Defense now offers video training information that enables anyone to understand and apply the unique advantages of the Israeli Method of fighting with a tactical carbine.

This DVD parallels the live Mako Defense courses currently being offered across America. It gives viewers the opportunity to learn and practice techniques that can save their lives and the lives of innocent victims.

The Israeli Method of fighting revolves around the concept of using speed and accuracy to quickly neutralize any threat, while protecting bystanders. As presented by Mako Defense, it is designed to give US law enforcement officers the most effective methods for working alone, with a partner, or in a team; to give military combatants the skills required for a successful mission; and enable civilians to become highly competent in every aspect of using their tactical rifles for home defense as well as shooting sports.

Mako Defense Training — live and on DVD – is fast-paced, exciting and readily understood by everyone. Even in live classes where law enforcement officers, military personnel and civilians often train together, each person is able to learn at their own pace and within their different physical capabilities. DVD training can be repeated and reviewed endlessly at no additional cost, to perfect the Israeli Method techniques shown. Each technique is presented, demonstrated, and then broken down, while being filmed from multiple angles, before being demonstrated at speed in live fire drills. Viewers can experience dry-fire practice of the methods taught in the DVD course.

“We are pleased to make this excellent fighting and self-defense method available to more people in the United States,” said Addy Sandler, CEO of Mako Defense, from a range in New York where live training was in progress.

“Our live-fire courses fill up fast, and we often have law enforcement and military personnel attending on their own time, along with a great many civilians who are passionate about shooting and understand the need to develop expert home defense techniques. While not a substitute for live interaction with our Israeli instructors, our DVD courses will enable everyone to understand how to utilize the Israeli Method of fighting to make themselves and their loved ones safer.”

Mako Defense instructors are experienced warriors who have seen extensive action as members of Israel’s most elite special operations units. They are certified as instructors by the Israeli government and teach the Israeli Method on a daily basis in Israel and around the world. The lead instructor featured in these videos has responded to many hostage situations in Israel from 1995 to the making of the video. Instructors were also members of the leading Israeli Police counter-terror and hostage rescue team. They have completed years of service in both a military unit that is the equivalent of the US Delta Force, and in an undercover unit that specializes in the abduction or elimination of high-level terrorists.

Mako Defense DVDs can be purchased from your favorite local gun shop or gun dealers everywhere. class="wp-caption-text">Wisconsin Gun Owners

Wisconsin --(Ammoland.com)- As a political lobbying organization, WGO works to defend and restore your right to keep and bear arms.

And if you’ve been a supporter of WGO for any amount of time, you know there simply isn’t a more committed gun rights organization in Wisconsin pushing for Constitutional Carry (no permit carry).

Even so, there will be many Wisconsinites rushing out to get a permit to carry a gun this fall. According to a recent news report, over 270,000 people have been licensed to carry a handgun in Michigan since that state passed its CCW license system nearly a decade ago. I expect the number of Wisconsinites to meet or exceed that number over time.

However, just because you have a permit to carry a gun, doesn’t mean you’re necessarily prepared to do so. That’s because carrying a loaded handgun carries with it inherent liabilities. It isn’t just about what’s the best handgun, or the most effective ammo, holster or other gear, though those are indeed important considerations.

I’m talking about taking the time and spending some of your money on educational resources to get the training needed to win a gunfight. Ironically, if you were to use a gun in self-defense, there’s a good chance you’ll find yourself facing an additional threat: The anti-gun District Attorney, who is now out to skewer you alive with a manslaughter or murder charge.

Can You Articulate?
I’ve spent the last several years studying everything I can get my hands on about the judicious use of self-defense and I am still struck by the fact that Defensive Gun Uses (DGUs) rarely happen as they are depicted by Hollywood.

Even in the best of circumstances (in which you survive the gunfight), the prospect of being railroaded by a prosecutor hell-bent on portraying you as a radical gun nut with a trigger finger — and the dead attacker as a poor victim and nice kid — is very real.

Are you able to articulate to a jury and other triers of fact that you were a reluctant participant? Can you communicate a reasonable and immediate fear of death or bodily harm? Did options other than deadly force exist? Did you try but were unable to retreat? What should you say to the police?

Concealed Carry Program
To help you answer these questions, we’ve launched the WGO Concealed Carry Program. Simply put, it’s a way for you to get your hands on the best educational resources — from authors like Massad Ayoob, books published by Gun Digest and DVDs like the excellent Thunder Ranch series with Clint Smith.

By supporting this win-win program, you give WGO the resources to lobby for your rights and teach more people about the responsible use of defensive handguns. And you get a package of stuff that will help you be prepared — for the thug on the street or the prosecutor in the courtroom. Be on the lookout for more details coming soon.

Don’t Buy List
The other initiative we’re launching is the Don’t Buy List. If the experience of other states is any indication, once Nov. 1 rolls around you’ll see businesses posting “No Guns Allowed” signs. Business owners are within their rights to post these offensive displays of ignorance, but it’s our right to take our business elsewhere — and let them know about it. In fact, with the economy being what it is, no business in Wisconsin can afford to lose any customers, let alone to alienate gun owners. Our Don’t Buy List will send a polite but strong message to anti-gun businesses: Serve gun owners or lose our business. Of course, I welcome your ideas for improving this program.

E-mail me at executivedirector@ wisconsingunowners.org

About:
WGO works for grassroots gun owners, not politicians. While many gun lobbies fight for “reasonable gun control,” WGO sets a higher standard: Defining the terrain of pro-gun political battle. Sure, many groups claim they’re “pro-gun” – all the while they provide cover for anti-gun deals cut by politicians – but only WGO truly informs gun owners, remaining committed to a 100% pro-gun position. We oppose all gun control – regardless of the political party – and work tirelessly to restore the Second Amendment. Visit <a
