title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- The January/February issue of American COP Magazine features new gear, how to keep yourself safe and answers some ethical questions faced on the job.

In “Carry Options: Choosing the Right Rig,” editor Suzi Huntington speaks to the many and varied options officers, whether uniformed or not, have to carry their chosen firearms. She writes about some of the pros—and cons—of different rigs.

Whatever you choose, Suzi stresses, “any time you change holsters, you must practice, practice, and practice some more. Never simply slap on a new holster and hit the field.”

Lt. John Morrison, SDPD Ret. explains that just having a good night vision or light-intensifying scope/thermal gear is not enough. Often times, this leaves officers with a bright blob, or an image that’s too fuzzy to make out any detail. In “Good Glass and Night Vision: Not An ‘Either/Or’ Proposition,” Morrison explains that adding “day optics” can provide enough detail for gross facial identification, and goes over some of the best solutions in both glass optics and night vision.

The majority of cops currently experience, or have a history of, low back and shoulder pain, headaches and a variety of other aches and pains. In “The Fab 5: Fix Your Weak Links,” Dr. Ryan Ford writes of five exercises to help alleviate some of the most common aches, so officers can focus on fighting bad guys, and not their own bodies.

Sometimes officers are faced with ethical or illegal activity, which can go all the way to the top of a police agency. “Problems at the Top” details Jerry Boyd’s advice for those who find themselves in these kinds of delicate situations.

This month’s Gun of the Month giveaway is Brownells’ Patrol Rifle Upper Receiver Package. Brownells recently launched their LE division, and now offers a lineup of “all things cop.” The Patrol Rifle Upper Receiver Package includes everything needed to upgrade an AR-15/M16 patrol rifle and patrol gear.

American COP Magazine’s all-digital edition is reaching more readers than ever. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Shooting Industry Magazine launches the 2012 New Business Year with the mega December issue, the first of two expanded editions.

“We have assembled a wealth of information in our December issue to help businesses throughout industry maximize the opportunities of 2012. Forecasts for the new year, new products, SHOT Show planning, our highly regarded Buyer’s Guide and more are included in this valuable business edition,” said Russ Thurman, Shooting Industry’s publisher and editor.

Insights from industry leaders comprise “New Business Year: Meeting The Challenges Of 2012,” in which companies forecast “healthy, if not increased, sales” for the coming year. Representatives from Crimson Trace, Hornady, Mossberg and Taurus offer their opinions on the coming year.

Part I of the 2012 New Product Showcase kicks off the new year buying season. The Showcase includes hundreds of new product offerings from manufacturers across the industry, featuring firearms, ammunition, optics and accessories. The 2012 New Product Showcase helps dealers determine what to offer customers in the months ahead in order to maximize their sales in 2012.

A SHOT Show preview is featured in the December issue, with information to help exhibitors and dealers maximize their show experience. Shooting Industry’s preview helps dealers plot their course of action at SHOT Show or — if they are not attending — keeps dealers informed of what’s being presented at the show.

The Universe’s Greatest Buyer’s Guide is also a vital part of the December issue. This extensive industry-wide directory serves as a yearlong reference to dealers nationwide.

The December issue includes a recent addition to Shooting Industry, the Dealers Only Giveaway. In December, Shooting Industry is offering dealers and their employees the chance to win a set of nine Panteao Productions “Make Ready with the Experts” DVDs, a package valued at $404.91. Visit www.shootingindustry.com/giveaway/ to enter to win.

Shooting Industry’s all-digital edition is reaching more readers than ever. The interactive digital edition features flip-page technology to create a real-time, page-turning, online magazine viewing experience. The digital edition includes a number of bonus features, including additional, expanded content beyond the print edition, hotlinks of website addresses, links to videos and search options. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- The Smith & Wesson Governor featured on the cover of February GUNS Magazine is one of many articles lobbying readers to elect shooting sports as the number one activity for the new year.

Holt Bodinson gives an inside look at Smith & Wesson’s new revolver, the Governor, in “The Governor Governs.” A large handgun, the Governor weighs in at 2 pounds, 4 ounces when loaded with six Winchester .410 PDX shells. Unique to the Governor, it can be loaded with either a standard 6-round moon clip or a 2-round clip, enabling the shooter to load with two or four rounds of .45 ACP plus, .45 Colt and .410 shot shells in any arrangement desired.

“Above all,” says Bodinson, “the Governor is fun to shoot with .410 shotshells. It’s a quality Smith & Wesson handgun, and offering one more shot than the competition, the Governor has just taken over the State House.”

In “Resurrection: Bringing a Rare K98k Sniper Rifle Back into Service,” Mike “Duke” Venturino tells of his acquisition of a rare, 1943 German sniper rifle. While he did run into a few speed bumps, restoring this historical rifle was relatively easy compared to his other restoration projects. Follow Duke’s search for a scope and mounting system as he “resurrects” a worn K98k sniper rifle.

Many eastern hunters feel stifled by the lack of variety of game available to them locally. While hunting Western big game can be pricy, there are many options of upland birds sure to satisfy. In his article, “Shotguns for Western Upland Birds,” John Barsness gives readers all the info they need when out west; from regulations to be wary of, to a variety of shotguns that will put a smile on any hunter’s face.

This month, readers have a chance to win a .40 S&W P226 Extreme from SIG SAUER. Also included in the GUNS Magazine’s February Gun of the Month package is a LocSAF PBS-001 safe, a Mantis Knives MT-9C Tough Tony, Elzetta’s Model ZFL-M60 Tactical Weapon Light and an Advantage Tactical Sights Tac Sight kit.

GUNS Magazine’s all-digital edition is reaching more readers than ever. This is where the Chainsaw truly shines. The pistol grip and new fore-end grip take advantage of these angles, maximizing the shooter’s ability to control the weapon while using it as effectively as possible.”

MGI Military’s MGI Marck-15, or Hydra, looks like a fairly ordinary AR-15, until you convert it to one of the many different calibers and conversion kits—in just a minute and a half. In “The Hydra: Strikes Hard with Many Heads,” Pat Cascio was happy to have his doubts about this handy AR proved wrong.

Michael Janich writes that in most close-quarters situations, guns skills are not enough on their own. In “Ass Kicking for Gunfighters: You Gotta Be Well-Rounded,” Janich explains empty hand skills that will let a shooter stay alive long enough to have the opportunity to draw his firearm.

Every war of magnitude has brought about extraordinary advances in weapons and gear, many of which translate over into the public sector. John Connor’s “Combat Spin-Offs” details just a few of the numerous innovations companies are now offering that originated in recent combat situations.

American Handgunner Editor Roy Huntington recently visited American Spirit Arms’ shop and watched the crew there hand build his test rifle. In “ASA’s Modern Defensive Rifles,” Roy writes of the precision and detail that go into making this custom ASA rifle, and the improvements he noticed on the shooting range.

The Combat Special Edition features the 2012 Buyer’s Guide, including over 90 pages of handguns, rifles, shotguns, knives, lights and more.

For more information on the GUNS Magazine Combat Special Edition, visit Ammoland.com)- FMG Publications announces the 2012 Shooting Industry Masters will be returning to south central Kentucky and the Rockcastle Shooting Center.

“The overwhelming reception we received from everybody in Kentucky, combined with ear-to-ear grins and positive feedback from this year’s match participants, made the decision to return to Rockcastle much easier,” said Randy Molde, Masters chairman.

“Besides, I missed out on this year’s cave shoot, and I plan to be first in line for the 2012 event.”

The 10th Annual Shooting Industry Masters will be held July 20-21, 2012, at the Rockcastle Shooting Center, Park Mammoth Resort, in Park City, Ky.

“It’s with great pride that the Rockcastle Shooting Center welcomes back the Shooting Industry Masters,” said Nick Noble, CEO and cofounder, Rockcastle Shooting Center.

“Kentucky will once again roll out the red carpet for the shooting industry, and we consider this opportunity a great honor. We would like to thank FMG for recognizing our shooting sports resort as the perfect location to host this prestigious event.”

The 2012 Masters will again support National Shooting Sports Foundation’s First Shots program. The 2011 Masters drew a record-setting 370 shooters from 71 companies and organizations throughout the industry. The match raised $37,000 for First Shots, which brings the amount raised by the Masters for First Shots to $94,000 in three years.

“FMG is such a strong supporter of NSSF, including the First Shots program, a program that benefits everyone in the industry,” said Steve Sanetti, NSSF president.

“We’re very thankful for the support, because we couldn’t put this program together otherwise. We’re looking forward to the 2012 match, and we’d like to see everyone at the Masters next year: first, because it’s a lot of fun, and second, because the money raised will help us reach more new shooters through the First Shots program. Again, we thank FMG Publications for their ongoing support of NSSF and First Shots.”

The Masters is owned and operated by FMG Publications, publishers of GUNS Magazine, American Handgunner, American COP, Shooting Industry Magazine and eight special editions.

For more information on the 2012 Shooting Industry Masters, contact Elizabeth O’Neill at elizabeth@shootingindustry.com or 1-888-315-3641.
Tags: Ammoland.com)- American Handgunner wraps up 2011 with its Nov./Dec. issue, which brings the centennial of the 1911 to a close.

The Nov./Dec. issue takes a look at how Les Baer turned his one-man shop into the brand franchise it is today — by putting quality first.

“Every single thing we do is hand-fit and hand-built, period,” said Baer. “It’s got my name on it so it’d better be right.”

As the 100th anniversary of the 1911 comes to an end, American Handgunner turns its attention to two more custom 1911s built by Les Baer: the Custom Centennial and the Presentation Grade. Both feature loads of custom finishing touches, including genuine ivory grips, hand-cut checkering and either a charcoal blue finish or hand engraving.

Also tipping their hats to the centennial birthday of the 1911 is the company that made the first one. Colt’s 100th Anniversary Edition 1911 is about as close as you can get to the original. In “A ‘Real’ 1911,” read more about the blue-black finish, double diamond checkered walnut grips and slide engravings, which read, “ADOPTED MARCH 29, 1911 – UNITED STATES ARMY.”

Handgunner urges readers to remember our troops this holiday season. There are numerous charities and ways to get gifts and care packages to those deployed overseas. Check out John Connor’s top picks in “The Grunt’s Gift Guide 2011,” and spread a little Christmas cheer to our servicemen and -women.

Don’t miss the chance to enter the Handgun of the Month giveaway. One lucky Handgunner reader will win an FMK 9C1B 9mm auto featuring the Bill of Rights engraved on the slide, as well as micro-engravings of the names of notable historical figures, including John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- When members of the industry convened in Park City, Ky., for the 2011 Shooting Industry Masters, they did more than break targets, scare steel and support industry programs.

The Ninth Annual Masters raised $5,200 for the USA Shooting Team.

“A big thank you goes out to FMG for its tremendous support of the USA Shooting Team,” said Buddy DuVall, USA Shooting Team Foundation executive director.

“With the 2012 Olympics fast approaching, FMG’s support is extremely timely, and will help our athletes in the final stages of preparation for London. We appreciate everything FMG does for the shooting industry, from supporting our Olympic shooting team to supporting the NSSF’s First Shots program.”

The Masters, held July 22-23 at the Rockcastle Shooting Center, Park Mammoth Resort, in Park City, Ky., hosted a record-breaking 370 shooters, and raised funds for the USA Shooting Team two ways.

A live auction, emceed by Roy Huntington, publisher of FMG’s consumer publications, was held on the concluding night of the Masters. Bidders competed for the items up for auction, including: a Benelli Super Vinci 12 Gauge; Smith & Wesson Bodyguard; Kimber Solo; a set of Academy of Excellence Winner Engraved Knives, from Benchmade; and a Rapid Reticle, from Pride Fowler, with all proceeds benefiting the USA Shooting Team.

Funds were also raised during the match through the Rent-A-Ringer program, in which industry teams bid to have members of the USA Shooting Team shoot on their team. Seven USA Shooting Team members offered their “guns-for-hire” services, including Jamie Beyerle, Amy Sowash, Keith Sanderson, Brian Beaman, Jason Turner, Sean McLelland and Jake Turner.

“While Sean and Jake were definitely outstanding coaches, they were also wonderful teammates,” said Ron Buschmann, owner of Shooter’s Supply & Law Enforcement Equipment. “They bring respect and honor to us all, and present themselves without arrogance. We are all proud the USA Shooting Team has these two young men representing our country.”

USA Shooting Team members also volunteered their time to assist with the Masters First Shots seminar held during the event.

“It was great to have Olympic shooters from the USA Shooting Team be instructors for the First Shots program,” said Shari LeGate, World Cup medalist. “2008 Olympians Jamie Beyerle and Sean McLelland helped out teaching rifle and shotgun. We had over 27 participants who couldn’t believe Olympians were taking the time to teach them. Donating their time to the Masters’ First Shots program shows what outstanding athletes they truly are.”

In addition to the $5,200 raised for the USA Shooting Team, the Masters also raised $37,000 for NSSF’s First Shots program.

The event was held in conjunction with the presentation of the 2011 Shooting Industry Academy of Excellence Awards presentations. The Shooting Industry Masters is owned and operated by FMG Publications.

For more information on the 2011 Shooting Industry Masters, visit www.shootingindustry.com
Tags: Ammoland.com)- Top firearms industry executives and professional competitors converged on Park City, Ky., July 22-23 to participate in the Ninth Annual Shooting Industry Masters.

A record-breaking 370 shooters raised $37,000 for NSSF’s First Shots program.

This brings the amount raised by the Masters for First Shots to $94,000 in three years. The Masters, held at the Rockcastle Shooting Center, Park Mammoth Resort, is owned and operated by FMG Publications.

“We were impressed with the number of companies that entered teams, and the enthusiasm of the record number of industry shooters,” said Russ Thurman, match director, and publisher and editor of Shooting Industry magazine.

“We thank our sponsors, the companies conducting side matches and the Rockcastle Shooting Center for their overwhelming support. Thanks to all for making the 2011 Shooting Industry Masters a tremendous success.”

The Shooting Industry Masters attracted 22 sponsors for the event. Industry manufacturers and supporters also contributed the largest collection of raffle prize packages in the nine-year history of the match. In addition, major companies and organizations sponsored 10 side matches, offering industry teams an opportunity to try a wide variety of shooting venues.

“We had nearly 500 people each day participating in the event, with competitors and volunteers combined,” said Randy Molde, match chairman.

“If the miles of smiles we saw through dirt and sweat at the end is any indication, everybody really enjoyed the event. It was exciting to see so many folks who are used to sitting behind desks all day out enjoying the sport they help make better. We’re thankful they chose to spend the weekend with us to support First Shots.”

FMG also thanked this year’s host, Rockcastle Shooting Center, Park Mammoth Resort, for their assistance with the event, along with the state of Kentucky for the warm welcome it provided Masters attendees.

“The facility at Rockcastle Shooting Center is amazing and has unlimited possibilities for future events,” Molde said. “All of the volunteers were very enthusiastic, well coordinated and very friendly.”

The top teams and shooters were honored during an awards reception at the Rockcastle Shooting Center July 23.

The 2011 Shooting Industry Masters top shooters and teams were:

High Team: Industry Class — Team Sierra Bullets, Darren Leskiw, Tommy Todd, Matt Reams and Mark Walker.

High Shooter: Industry Class — Jens Krogh, Team Benelli 1.

High Lady: Industry Class — Katie Harris.

High Team: Open Class — Team JP Enterprises, Tony Holmes, Kurt Miller, Don Bednorz, Trapr Swonson and John Paul.

High Shooter: Open Class — Jerry Miculek, Team Smith & Wesson 1.

High Lady: Open Class — Tasha Hanish.

The Masters is a handgun, rifle, shotgun competition divided into two classifications: Industry and Open. Regardless of class, scores are not published to maintain the no-pressure, fun atmosphere of the Masters.

The event was held in conjunction with the presentation of the 2011 Shooting Industry Academy of Excellence Awards presentations.

Ammoland.com)- Overflowing with valuable information, American COP Special Edition 2012 features an array of topics aimed at cops and shooting enthusiasts alike.

From an expert look at the latest defensive ammo, to the versatility of knives, to the evaluation of the new Ruger Mini-14 and the year’s colossal buyer’s guide, there is no shortage of useful commentary.

The content in this edition gives readers an exclusive look into a cop’s domain. “We won’t give away all the cop secrets, but we will give a peek into the world of how cops do what they do,” said Sammy Reese, Special Editions Editor.

Curious about which ammunition is best suited for your handgun defense needs? Sergeant John Russo offers his recommendations and critiques on contemporary defensive ammo, and answers the question, “Are there magic bullets?”

“Thanks to the hard work of modern ammunition manufacturers, we’re inching closer to it. We might even be in the golden age of ammunition making because never before have there been so many good bullet and cartridge choices, by so many different companies,” said Russo.

The article, “It Slices, It Dices! But Wait, There’s More,” will help law enforcement decide which blade is best for their needs. American COP magazine editor, Suzi Huntington, explores a cross section of knives in a wide variety of price ranges.

“Knives are as much a part of police work as the siren on your patrol car and the gun on your side. Think of how often you pull your knife to pry, scrape a registration tag or cut something-like a seatbelt or flex-cuffs,” Huntington writes. “And knives have been around in some form pretty much since the caveman days; their uses are as varied as their designs.”

With more than 30 years of faithful service to shooters and hunters everywhere, the Ruger Mini-14 has received a face-lift. Writer Todd Burgreen contributes an extensive analysis on the attributes of this rifle. “A testament to both sound design and mass appeal, the rifle handles and shoots as good as it looks,” said Burgreen.

It’s a familiar motto for American police, “Do more with less,” stated writer Clint Smith. “Today, with officers taking pay and benefit cuts it can be trying for LEOs to stay motivated and focused on training.”

To help officers with this endeavor, Smith outlines a training block individual officers can implement at the range, while taking into consideration the limited funds allocated for firearms and tactics training. Zone shots, malfunctions, lateral movements and the course of fire only begin to scratch the surface of the elements included in his article, “50 Rounds: A Minimalist Approach To Practice.”

Also found in the pages of this Special Edition are staff recommendations of their preferred SWAT gear. “Boston or Baghdad, Kansas City or Kandahar—tough tactical gear gives warriors the winning edge,” writes John Morrison in the article “Gearing Up For SWAT.”

Suggestions for combat shirts, armor vests, eye protection, optics, lights and more are highlighted.

Additionally, to make your search for handguns, rifles, shotguns, knives and other defensive equipment easier, browse through the impressive, 96-page buyer’s guide.

The American COP Special Edition 2012 is available on newsstands June 20. February GUNS Magazine Reviews the Remington R-15/30 Rifle
FMG Publications
San Diego, Calif. --(Ammoland.com)- San Diego, Calif. — GUNS Magazine’s February issue delivers an action-packed issue, featuring the Remington R-15/30 on the cover.
Remington engineers designed a cartridge for deer-sized game, which mated well with the AR-15 lower; the result was the .30 Remington AR.
In GUNS Magazine’s review, the Remington R-15/30 .30 Remington cartridge combo really delivered.
“The R-15 in .30 Remington AR is a classic. Creating a potent 20-caliber cartridge for the universal AR-15 platform was a stroke of genius,” writes Holt Bodinson. Readers will find the full review in the February issue.
Also in this issue, GUNS takes a look at iron sights for hunting rifles. While there is a common notion that iron sights are outdated and inaccurate, author John Barsness argues otherwise.
“This is not the case! Despite the development of modern lens coatings that repel water, iron sights work better than scopes in really nasty weather,” according to John Barsness.
“Irons are also very useful backups. Despite increased reliability, scopes are the most delicate part of a hunting rifle,” explains Barness, “there is a certain freedom in using iron sights. You don’t have to worry about banging a scope on the landscape, or cleaning lenses.”
See the complete article for more pointers on hunting with iron sights.
This exciting issue also features a look at Youth Rifles, the Shoulder Holster, a review of the Stoeger Cougar .45 ACP and more.
This month’s gun giveaway is a Kahr PM9 9mm with a Crimson Trace Lasergaurd, that John Taffin describes as “Pocket Pistol Perfection.” As an added bonus, this package includes an Al Mar Eagle Talon folding knife, a LockSAF Biometric Safe PBS-001 and a copy of the Thunder Ranch Defensive Firearms Techniques DVD.
February’s giveaway is valued at more than $1,500 and is up for grabs by visiting www.gunsmagazine.com/ and following the “You Can Win” link. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- When it comes to planning survival resources, water should be at the very top of your list.

It’s a medical fact most people can survive for weeks without food; however, after only a few days without water, some very bad things start happening to your body due to dehydration.

As such, American Handgunner Reality Check Special Edition contributing editor Michael Janich addresses this critical issue in his article, “Water, Water Everywhere: Can You Drink It?”

Janich’s multi-layered approach goes beyond stored cases of bottled water. He teaches readers how to tap into untraditional water resources and make it safe to drink. Like any other survival issue, the best time to prepare your water plan is now.

“In addition to drinking water considerations, you should also develop primary and backup plans for water to be used for cooking, personal hygiene and sanitation during a critical incident,” writes Janich.

“Assemble the tools, material and knowledge you need and take a few hours to go through the process at least once. In a real survival situation that experience and the confidence it provides could save your life.”

Janich’s article represents one of the dozen-plus survival-driven articles in the 2011 Reality Check Special Edition. With the idea that survival preparedness isn’t one-size-fits-all.

The magazine features topics such as:

Menu For Survival: A Realistic Approach

Stronghold: One Man’s Plan to Protect His Family

Emergency Box: Every Vehicle Should Have One

Lifesaving Modular Kit: Don’t Head Out Without It

Young Guns: Teaching Kids To Shoot

Carrying Concealed: Are You Responsible Enough?

and much more.

“If you are like me, you want to arm yourself with the tools, supplies and knowledge needed to survive life-threatening situations,” said editor Sammy Reese.

“Our Reality Check Special Edition is a survival guide for the real world. It’s a sobering read, but it’s a must read. “From surviving in the woods, to surviving on the streets, we address the plans you need to put in place and the tools you have to have. At the end of the day, you have to decide what’s the best survival plan for your family, but our Special Edition is the best place to start.”

The 2011 Buyer’s Guide, is also included in the magazine. The Buyer’s Guide features 94 pages of guns, knives and more survival tools.

American Handgunner Reality Check is available now, while supplies last. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- There are times when it’s really hard to keep a secret. For American COP Special Edition Annual contributing editor Dave Douglas, Ruger’s new SR556 was one of them.

While at the Ruger factory, Douglas signed a non-disclosure form for anything he saw in the plant. The SR556 turned the secrecy requirement into a far more difficult task.

Douglas can breathe easy, as the wait is over. The SR556 is available and patrol car ready. He reviews the rifle in American COP Special Edition Annual.

“Ruger has long been known for building tank tough firearms that can take a beating and still perform at level cops need,” Douglas writes.

“The SR556 comes from the factory equipped with just about everything needed in a patrol rifle. It’s practically “out of the box” ready to put in your patrol car.”

Douglas counts the SR556 as a worthy patrol partner, while his publisher considers American COP Special Edition Annual one as well.

“Our first priority is to keep cops safe on duty and off,” said publisher Roy Huntington.

“Our tell-it-like-it-is style isn’t for the weak-hearted, then again, most cops have never been accused of being shy about such things. Our national prospective brings training, tactics, equipment, ideas, product tests and a relevant cross-section of information to cops everywhere. We won’t give you bull because we know what or who is riding shotgun helps get you home at the end of your shift.”

Duty gear is a big focus of the American COP Special Edition Annual.

“Articles like “Owning the Night: Night Vision for Dummies”, “Shopping For Officer Safety” and “Gear Hogs: What’s-What For Cops” help guide law enforcement through the maze of products marketed for cops,” said Huntington. “Our writers know the value of a dollar and want to put the right gear into the right hands.”

Also helping the cause is the 2011 Buyer’s Guide, included in the Annual. The Buyer’s Guide features 94 pages of guns, knives and more tools cops need.

The American COP Special Edition Annual is available now, while supplies last. To order online visit, FMG Publications

San Diego, Calif. --(Ammoland.com)- If you think you are living in a nice neighborhood where nothing bad will every happen, you’re living in a state of denial.

That’s the sentiment that echoes through the pages of the Fall/Winter 2010 American Handgunner Personal Defense Special Edition magazine on sale now. With the idea that Mayberry is long gone, the magazine’s editor, a former police officer and marine, put a premium on preparing readers how to act accordingly.

“The content of this magazine is reliable, up to date and makes sense in the real world,” said FMG Special Edition’s editor Sammy Reese. “Personal-defense is timely, important to everyone — not just gun owners — and gives people skills they can apply in the real world.”

While prevention can be unavoidable, preparation isn’t. Contributors of the Personal Defense Special Edition guide readers through preparing for today’s uncertain world, with articles such as: Tactical Real Estate: Defending Your Castle; Protect Your Children: Mayberry Is Only On TV; Workplace Violence: Proper Planning; Lasers For Home Defense: The Basics; Shotgun For Home-Defense: It’s An Old One, But A Good One; The Bug Out Bag: When Fashion Demands Flight; and much more.

“Protecting you and your family shouldn’t be taken lightly,” writes contributing editor Richard Mann. “Nor is it something you should leave to chance or gimmicks. It’s something you should approach proactively.”

Concealed carry considerations are also a focus of the Personal Defense Special Edition. A handful of articles address the lifestyle choice with information on equipment, fashion, carrying in the workplace and various perspectives from people who carry every day, complete with a female’s viewpoint.

“By having the ability to defend yourself, you truly have a say in what happens around you and to you,” writes contributing editor Clint Smith. “It’s not always a simple choice, but it’s your choice.”

The Fall/Winter 2010 American Handgunner Personal Defense Special Edition also includes the 2010 Buyer’s Guide, which has 94 pages of guns, knives and more self-defense tools.

The Personal Defense Special Edition is available now, while supplies last. The Masters, held July 23-24 in Grand Island, Neb., and owned and operated by FMG Publications, also raised $7,000 for the USA Shooting team.

“Upward, ever upward goes the Shooting Industry Masters!” said NSSF President Steve Sanetti. “And its success is our success, and the future of shooting in America grows more secure. FMG’s match raised a record amount for the First Shots introductory shooting program that actively creates new shooters–and it works!

“The 2010 Masters was the best one yet, and everyone who attended had a lot of fun with both the official course of fire and the side events. Our hats are off to all the fine people at FMG who created this fine event, which somehow manages to exceed our expectations each and every year.”

FMG Publications

San Diego, Calif. --(Ammoland.com)- Like the lever-action rifle, the pump shotgun and 1911 autopistol are uniquely American. And, in true American fashion, there’s always room for more success stories.

Nighthawk Custom is such a story. Nighthawk Custom began making custom 1911-style pistols in 2003, and in a remarkably short time established itself as one of the premier names in this highly competitive field. Success in that endeavor led to expansion into manufacturing and distributing custom rifles, shotguns, gun leather and knives.

Armed with their latest firearms, GUNS Magazine contributing editor Dave Anderson put Nighthawk Custom’s Tactical 870 Pump Shotgun and T3 .45 ACP 1911 pistol to the test in the pages of the September issue, hitting stands July 19. The duo faced more than one critic at the magazine.

“Sometimes, simply because a gun design is a classic, doesn’t mean it can’t manage to perform an important role today,” said Roy Huntington, Publisher of FMG’s consumer magazines and editor of American Handgunner.

“Nighthawk keeps updating these classic designs to keep pace with changing modern technology.”

Through his in-depth evaluation, Anderson believes Nighthawk Custom truly hit the defensive nail on the head.

“If I were carried back in time to the year 1911 and wanted three guns for personal-defense, I would feel very well armed with a 1911 .45 auto, a Winchester 1897 shotgun, and a Winchester 94 or Savage 99 .30-30 rifle,” Anderson writes.

“And today? You can still make mine a 1911-style .45 and a 12-gauge pump shotgun, and I’d be very happy indeed with the Nighthawk T3 pistol and 870 Tactical shogun.”

One lucky reader will also be very happy with GUNS Magazine’s September giveaway package.

“I like to think we’re a bit out of control with our giveaway packages,” laughed Roy Huntington.

“They keep getting bigger, better and more interesting. This month’s GUNS package is a real head-turner, with the American Spirit Arms AR-15 rifle, Countersniper Scope, TOPS CQT-Magnum knife and more!”

September’s giveaway is valued at $2,600 and is up for grabs by visiting www.gunsmagazine.com and following the “You Can Win” link. While you are there, purchase your copy of the September issue of GUNS Magazine.
Tags: FMG Publications

San Diego, Calif. --(Ammoland.com)- Every day, thousands of law enforcement officers and private citizens depend on SIG SAUER pistols for personal-defense.

None are more popular than the company’s P226 and P229 models. SIG SAUER set out to make these high-capacity pistols a better fit for shooters with average-sized and smaller hands.

These ergonomic makeovers are called E2 for “Enhanced Ergonomics.” American Handgunner contributing editor Dave Anderson put these slimmed-down pistols to the test in the pages of the Sept/Oct issue, hitting stands July 19, as well as on the web. The handguns gained more than one fan at the magazine.

“SIG’s new E2 designs of the classic P226 and P229 models have turned these tough duty pistols into svelte, easily-handled fighting handguns,” said publisher Roy Huntington. “The new grip profile now fits a wider range of hands, and now smaller-stature shooters can enjoy the benefits of these superlative handguns from SIG.”

Anderson continues his evaluation on the magazine’s website, as he offers firearm enthusiasts an exclusive look at the pistols’ manufacturing process, compares them to the originals and much more in American Handgunner’s Web Blast video, available at www.americanhandgunner.com.

While you are there, register to win the Sept/Oct Handgun of the Month giveaway. From the Grayman SB West Nile Warrior Knife, to the ASAP Sentinel Survival Pack, to the Elite Four Gun Pistol Pack, to the Galco Custom Paddle Holster, the winner will be well prepared to protect their family in a variety of survival situations.

The online entries for American Handgunner giveaways are seeing unparalleled popularity.

“We’ve really been ramping-up the Gun Giveaway programs in all of FMG’s publications,” said Huntington. “We’ve expanded the offerings to encompass additional accessories like holsters, lights, clothing, knives and more. class="wp-caption-text">FMG Publications

San Diego, Ca --(Ammoland.com)- Firearm industry giants have yet to step to the firing line in Grand Island, Neb., for the Eighth Annual Shooting Industry Masters, yet this year’s event is already setting records.

Sixty-plus teams, representing some of the industry’s biggest names, have entered the fun-filled, two-day shooting match to be held at the Heartland Public Shooting Park. The competition, taking place July 23-24, benefits the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s (NSSF) First Shots program. Two other event categories have also reached all-time highs.

“We are grateful for the overwhelming support we have received from the industry,” said Russ Thurman, match director.

“The record number of sponsors, teams and raffle donations speaks highly of companies and their commitment to support the First Shots program. Their participation also supports FMG’s dedication to promote our shooting heritage and the growth of our industry.”

Owned and operated by FMG Publications, the Shooting Industry Masters raised $25,000 at the 2009 match for First Shots, a program that introduces new shooters to firearm safety and the shooting sports. In all, FMG has raised nearly $80,000 to support NSSF programs.

“First Shots provides new shooters a safe environment to learn about firearms and shooting. The money raised at the Masters helps expand this great program, plus we get to do what we’re supposed to do as an industry, have fun shooting,” said Steve Sanetti, NSSF president. “We thank FMG publications for a first-class event.”

This year, with a record-setting 23 sponsors and more raffle donations than ever, FMG hopes to eclipse last year’s fund raising efforts by a considerable margin.

“We’re thrilled to have so many industry heavy-hitters coming to this year’s event,” said Randy Molde, match chairman.

“We promise they’ll have a great time and will be happy to leave with great raffle prizes, thanks to their support of the First Shots program.”

Shooting Industry Masters

Match officials say FMG has received exceptional assistance from the Heartland Public Shooting Park and the Grand Island/Hall County Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The Grand Island Economic Development Corp. and the Grand Island Sports Council will hold a Masters Welcome Reception on July 22 at the Stuhr Musuem. Hornady Manufacturing, this year’s event host, also has provided invaluable assistance.

“The City of Grand Island and the State of Nebraska are looking forward to the Shooting Industry Masters arrival,” said Steve Hornady, president of Hornady Manufacturing.

“The Park is in great shape. I think this year’s Masters will be the best ever.”

The 2010 match courses-of-fire include double-action revolvers, bolt-action rifles, .22 modern sporting rifles and sporting clays. Side matches will also add to the weekend event: a Three-Gun match, sponsored by FNH-USA will combine pistol, rifle and shotgun for a taste of this fast growing competition sport. Hornady plans to sponsor three side events: Cowboy Action, Long Range and Concealed Carry. Proceeds from each side match will also benefit First Shots.

In addition to plenty of trigger time and unparalleled networking opportunities for participants, this FMG Publications production also includes the presentation of the 2010 Shooting Industry Academy of Excellence Awards. The year’s top-10 new products will be honored, along with outstanding service contributions of three companies and one individual through a special awards presentation on Friday evening July 23. The awards will be presented at a special reception at the Holiday Inn Grand Island-Midtown.

While team slots for this year’s event are at capacity, companies and individuals can still contribute by donating items to the Masters’ raffle, benefiting First Shots. To donate, please contact Elizabeth O’Neill at (888) 315-3641 or at elizabeth@shootingindustry.com.

For more on FMG Publications and the Shooting Industry Masters, visit www.fmgpublications.com and www.shootingindustry.com.
Tags: <a

2011 Special Edition GUNS Annual
FMG Publications
San Diego, Calif. --(Ammoland.com)- Hunters who hit the mountain hard and don’t stop until their trophy is on the ground or the season is over, may have found their golden ticket according to 2011 Special Edition GUNS Annual contributing editor Richard Mann.
Equipped with the Remington Model 700 XCR II, Mann set out to prove why the Winchester Model 70 may be known as the rifleman’s rifle, but the Remington Model 700 XCR II is the hunter’s rifle.
“It would appear Remington has once again succeeded in making the Model 700 even better,” Mann writes. “The affordability, accuracy and aesthetically pleasing lines of the 700 give it mass appeal. Remington’s newest Model 700, the XCR II, might be the best 700 yet. As least as far as real hunters are concerned.”
Mann modestly includes himself in that group.
“I’m just a simple hillbilly who likes to hunt,” Mann writes.
“Many years ago my best friend showed me a rifle to do this with. Years later, when I was assigned as a designated marksman at my police department, the same rifle worked just as well in that role. It was a Remington Model 700.”
Other features include:Novekse’s Caribine: Reliable As It Gets
African Big Bore: The Robar Way
DPMS Raptr: Firepower On Patrol
Cimarron’s .45-75: Roosevelt’s Favorite
S&W i-Bolt: A Solid Performer
All 1911: All The Time
Hornady 6.5 Creedmoor: Yes, It’s A Hunting Cartridge
and many more.Additionally, the 2011 Special Edition GUNS Annual is jam-packed with the news, notes and anecdotes readers have come to expect from its monthly magazine counterpart in the last 55 years. Publisher Roy Huntington treats the Annual Special Edition as icing on GUNS Magazine’s cake.
“With a wide cross-section of articles covering topics from hunting and target shooting, to self-defense — the GUNS Annual offers insight and skills for any level of shooter,” said publisher Roy Huntington. “To know more about many topics is important — specialization is for insects.”
The 2011 Special Edition GUNS Annual also includes the first look at 2011’s Buyer’s Guide, FMG Publications’ catalog of currently available handguns, rifles, shotguns, knives and lights.

class="wp-caption-text">FMG Publications

San Diego, Calif. --(Ammoland.com)- Despite no shortage of 1911s to be found, Smith & Wesson entered the 1911 game in the early 2000s.

Many questioned why. Armed with this near, decade-long inquiry, FMG Publications took, arguably, the most popular handgun in the history of firearms and put it front and center for its 2010 American Handgunner Special Edition Annual.

Equipped with the latest compact Model SW1911 Pro Series .45 ACP, it was contributing editor John Russo’s job to settle the discussion.

“When I was asked to review the 3″ model SW1911 Pro Series .45 ACP, I expected a typical hard kicking short-barreled .45,” said Russo. “Man, was I wrong. This thing shoots like a dream! Smith & Wesson makes me look forward to being wrong!”

To produce this cover story for the 2010 American Handgunner Annual, Russo drew from his law enforcement and firearms instructor background with one predominant goal in mind.

“My focus was to find out how comfortable this gun is to carry concealed, how easy it is to get into action and then how quickly and accurately it can be shot,” Russo wrote.

Russo goes on to describe the SW1911 Pro Series as a pistol with flare and sees how far he can push the handgun.

Other expert writers meet Russo’s enthusiasm and delve into articles such as: The 9mm 1911: It’s Not Blasphemy; Retro Rugers: The Wait Is Over; Becoming A Gun Writer: It’s a Long Road; The Classic Big Bore: Smith & Wesson’s Big Sixgun’s Return and many more in the 2010 American Handgunner Special Edition Annual.

“The American Handgun Annual allows us to fill the pages with handguns to fit every need,” said editor Sammy Reese. “From handgun classics to fun and cost-effective bullet casting, we have something for everyone. We even get to throw in a few knives for good measure. It’s the go-to guide for all things handguns.”

The 2010 Special Edition American Handgunner Annual also includes this year’s Buyer’s Guide, FMG’s catalog of currently available handguns, rifles, shotguns, knives and lights.

The 2010 Special Edition American Handgunner Annual is on newsstands now, while supplies last. class="wp-caption-text">Shooting Industry Masters

San Diego, Calif. --(Ammoland.com)- The Eighth Annual Shooting Industry Masters early bird team entry deadline is fast approaching.

Sponsored by FMG Publications, the highly anticipated two-day match will bring industry giants to Grand Island, Neb., July 23-24.

Early-bird teams will receive $250 off their registration fee, plus a free 1/4-page Shooting Industry Masters Team Challenge Ad in the June issue of Shooting Industry magazine.

“If you care anything about the future of this industry, please start putting a team of your best shooters together and plan on attending the 2010 Shooting Industry Masters. You’ll have a great time for the best cause,” said Steve Sanetti, NSSF president.

The Masters is expected to host 250 shooters, from professionals to beginners. FMG offers incentives to teams that register by April 25, 2010.

Sanetti is just one of many industry leaders to participate in the Masters since its inception. Match chairman Randy Molde understands why.

“I think the number one reason the Masters is drawing so much attention is it is fun,” said Molde. “I kept hearing that over and over again: ‘It’s fun, it’s relaxing, there’s no pressure. I don’t feel like I have to measure up to anybody. I can just get out here and shoot and remember why I’m involved in this industry in the first place.”

The match benefits NSSF’s First Shots program and provides unparalleled networking opportunities.

“My favorite part about the event is everybody coming together in the industry, being friends with one another and talking, and the ability to network and talk with the presidents and CEOs of other companies,” said Lew Danielson, CEO of Crimson Trace. “It doesn’t happen anywhere else like it happens here.”

For more information, including registration details, please visit

www.shootingindustry.com/Pages/2010SIMasters.html

or contact Elizabeth O’Neill at (888) 315-364 or elizabeth@shootingindustry.com.

This year’s sponsors include: Aimpoint, Benchmade, BLACKHAWK!, Black Hills, Brownells, Colt, CORBON, Crimson Trace, Ellett Brothers, Gunbroker.com, Gunsite, Hornady, Howard Leight, LaserMax, Remington, Ruger, Smith & Wesson, SureFire and XS Sights.
Tags: <a
