The Armed Citizen is an online blog that archives news stories from across the USA of citizen use of firearms to save their own lives from criminals.

Guns save lives, and are necessary for protection. That’s according to research from David Burnett, who track incidents of defensive gun use at TheArmedCitizen.com.

The Armed Citizen, LLC is a website dedicated to arming citizens not just with guns but with knowledge and information. As a website, the Armed Citizen has existed for several years, originally created and maintained by Clayton Cramer and Pete Drum in response to gun control advocates and criticisms of gun ownership. The blog documented stories of armed self-defense starting in late 2003, accumulating nearly 4,000 entries by 2010.

These stories were compiled into a study which was published on the November 2009 cover of the NRA’s America’s First Freedom magazine and <a

This was one of hundreds of lawsuits filed by a group of copyright trolls known as Righthaven. TAC was in good company, since the Second Amendment Foundation, the Second Amendment Sisters and the Drudge Report were also sued. In order to escape a prolonged and potentially bankrupting legal battle, TAC’s owners settled and, believing that success is the best revenge, used donations to rebuild the website.

The Armed Citizen Blog Interview:

Q: What is your Blog’s Official Name?
A: The Armed Citizen

Q: What is your Name?
A: David Burnett

Q: Where are you located?
A: Central Kentucky

Q: What is the point of view or purpose of your blog?
A: To provide a resource for armed citizens. Our main goal is to have an ongoing list of defensive gun use stories as illustrations for why people need to be armed, and to highlight the positive aspects of firearms. Almost all the people in the real-life stories we post would be dead if they didn’t have a gun. That’s a huge factor to consider when someone decides to enact stricter gun laws.

Q: How long has your Blog been active?
A: Since 2003 initially. It was begun by Clayton Cramer, who worked with Pete Drum. I joined the crew around 2007. It was relaunched in its current state at the first of the year.

Q: What do you do for a living or is your blog a full time job?
A: I work a security job, teach concealed carry classes and I’m currently developing some business plans for a computer programmer. (I have a degree in business.)

Q: Do you have a specific agenda or goal of your blog?
A: Guns are the great equalizer. More people need to own them — a lot more. And not just OWN them but KNOW them. We need to eradicate ignorance about firearms. Our motto is “Armed with knowledge.” The most powerful weapon any of us has is located between the ears. A gun is just a tool; being an armed citizen is about a lot more than just having a pistol in your closet. It’s a mindset. That’s what we want to encourage.

Q: We have all heard or read about the troubles with Righthaven, extroting money from sites like yours. Can you relay us the story again and how was it resolved?
A: It really does boil down to legal extortion. We used to copy stories from the newspapers or TV stations and reprint them, providing full citation and links. Sometimes if a story was long, we had to excerpt it. The newspaper we quoted had the article available freely, and had more than a dozen buttons on the page inviting the reader to share the article. We were hardly making any money on the blog, it was more of an academic exercise. But a lawyer in Nevada decided there was a gold mine in suing mom-and-pop blogs for money. Unfortunately, it wasn’t our battle to fight. There was too much to lose, so we settled. Our fans were awesome with the donations, we didn’t lose a penny in the end. But we still hope Righthaven’s litigious little jihad comes to an end very soon.

Q: What advise can you give other Gun Bloggers on protecting themselves from shady practices of those like
Righthaven?
A: Don’t copy any images or text from any newspapers or online media! Especially the ones funding Righthaven. Don’t even link to them. If they’re declaring war on the very blogs that sustain them with huge referrals, they don’t need us to send them any more traffic.

Q: What was the best thing you did on your blog that go the most reaction from your readers?
A: We had an article published on the cover of the NRA’s “America’s First Freedom” magazine. That was quite a highlight. On both sides, I daresay…

Q: Obviously since we are featuring you your blog is Pro gun? What do you think the outlook is for the future of gun rights in America?
A: Never better! The law is more friendly than ever, and we’ve obviously made some significant political strides. But guns shouldn’t be partisan. Self-defense and self-preservation aren’t liberal or conservative. They’re human. We need to help people understand that, and help them understand that if they will stand up for themselves and make themselves a less attractive target, they’ll be safer.

Q: What is your favorite firearm and why?
A: I’m a Glock man. Simple, effective, efficient.

Q: What things would you like to do or expand in your blog to in the future?
A: Oh goodness! There’s a lot I have in mind, and a lot we have coming. I’m in talks with people in different countries to take the concept nationwide. We want to create an article database, and reach out especially to people who aren’t experienced with guns. Those are the people I like talking to the most.

Q: What would you like to say to those that are anti gun or maybe just unsure of the purpose of guns in our society today?
A: Well, first of all, come to the website. Read the stories of the everyday citizen who simply prepared for the possibility of a criminal assault just like you prepare for a car wreck (with a seat belt) or a fire (with a fire alarm) or a virus (by installing virus protection). Things like that happen every day. The ones who are prepared are far more likely to survive. The people who aren’t armed because they feel apprehensive about a piece of metal will be less prepared, and more attractive to criminals. But I swear to you, if you just visit a range once with someone who knows what they’re doing and is safe with firearms, you’ll at least come away with a more educated opinion.

Q: What parting remarks or comments you would like to make or promote?
A: Well really, I’d like to make an appeal to people first to visit the website and share our stories. Second to support our sponsors, and consider becoming a sponsor themselves. Third, I’m looking for someone who might be willing to share the vision and workload of the blog if anyone wants to contact me. Other than that, the goal is to make every capable citizen a law-abiding gun owner.

If every criminal were told that their victims were armed, crime would almost be nonexistent.

David Burnett

Visit:AR15.com

Honeoye Falls, NY -(Ammoland.com)- This month we talk with John Brixius from Grauer Systems. You may have seen or heard of their IGRS (Integrated Grip Rail System) from SHOT or one of the various discussions on the AR15.com forums. If not, then read below. What we have are two parts: one is a brief background of the company and the thought behind the IGRS from John, and the second is hands-on with the product.

Q: Who is Grauer Systems?

Grauer is a team with diverse professional skills, educational backgrounds and skills across a number of industries, with an emphasis on engineering and design. We strive to be a team that can collaboratively think outside the box and innovate at a systems level, including the human element. Our mission is to provide unique and advanced solutions for the US warfighter and Homeland Security Operator along with synergies in other markets. The company was formally incorporated in 2008 around some advancing developmental efforts. As the incorporation date drew near and a quality sounding name for the firm had not yet been identified, a randomly passed street sign, Grauer Rd, provided the inspiration.

Q: Where did the idea for the IGRS come from?

It started from seeing images and videos with an incredibly high percentage of real warfighters in combat grasping the rifle in front of the receiver and magazine. This is commonly done even with a vertical fore-grip on the weapon. We started looking into it and it turns out there are a lot of intuitive ergonomic advantages to this hold and hence why many shooters gravitate toward it despite training to the contrary. The negatives are that the hands are too close together and that grasping the magazine can cause jams. We tried to eliminate the two negatives while not diminishing all the positives of the traditional magazine hold. As we went down that path, it lead to other questions about how users handle the weapon and found that there were other, synergistic enhancements we could make. The effort grew from being an improved magazine grip to a system design to do much more.

Q: What is the goal of the IGRS?

There are probably a number of ways to say this and each seems to resonate differently to different users. At a high level we wanted to enhance the performance potential that a user can achieve with the weapon. At a more descriptive level that could be superior ergonomics, faster learning curve, more versatility of weapon holds for different positions, better rail loading for either lower bulk or less forward weight, faster reloading, better ambidextrous transitions, and more comfortable patrolling. At the same time, we didn’t want to cause any limitations or any trade-offs compared to how users currently use their weapons. For example, the IGRS was designed to also synergistically work with a vertical fore-grip and the hand forward horizontal hold. In particular, the internal wire routing capability allows for use of remote pressure switches with either of these two holds. The intent isn’t to force one particular hold on users, but rather to provide maximum versatility.

Having said all this, the first thing the vast majority of users notice when they pick up an AR equipped with the IGRS is just how intuitive and natural it feels and just how much more balanced the weapon is in their hands. A number of folks have compared it to a well balanced double shotgun. Those who like the magazine hold overwhelmingly like the IGRS more. And, we’re getting a pretty high percentage of converts from the vertical fore-grip and hand forward horizontal hold schools of thought. Their first reaction on seeing it is often to dismiss it outright for being a magazine style hold, but once they pick it up and play with it a while, often to their surprise, they start to reconsider that the improved grip on the IGRS may be useful for some applications. In particular, when their arm is tired while in a standing position or when prone. Some just switch outright. Others won’t ever use a magazine style hold, but they like IGRS for its internal wire routing or the magazine funnel.

But, the system goes beyond an improved magazine grip. The magazine funnel enables faster reloading. It has a unique asymmetric, non-linear design that minimizes bulk while allowing for a very smooth feed. The IGRS allows for better laser and light integration in that the vast majority of the wire for the remote pressure switches can be routed internally, regardless of the position of either the switch or the device itself. When routed tightly, the wires never come in contact with the heat shield. Again, this isn’t just for use with the grip on the IGRS, it works with either a vertical fore-grip or the hand forward horizontal hold. An often overlooked little feature is the forward wall of the thumb rest. It was designed so that it butts up against a corner and allow the shooter to exert minimal effort to keep the weapon steady over long periods of time while also allowing the weapon to be re-pointed easily. Then, there’s our heat shield, which may be the most unique design on the market. Users consistently tell us that it manages heat much better than other systems they have used.

Q: Where is the IGRS currently in use?

Overall, elite domestic users and experts in the military, law enforcement and civilian markets. Our marketing approach has been to rely on word of mouth, so we’re growing with some expert product innovators in these segments. In particular, expert users who are so familiar with the AR that they have a personal list of the pluses and minuses of the weapon and can immediately resonate with the IGRS. Our first production samples went to some Spec Ops guys who tested it out for many months. We immediately started to get some traction with LE weapon trainers and police AR armorers. We’re starting to get some 3 gunners. In fact, the IGRS won the first 3 gun event in which it was entered.

Q: What is the new product you’re currently working on?

We can’t divulge any IP, but we’ve got a lot of proprietary development efforts. We’ve been getting a number of requests for a lower priced IGRS variant. We don’t want to compromise on quality, so rather than doing a less expensive overall system we’re looking into just a grip/funnel component that attaches to an existing rail system. Obviously, some of the benefits would be lost with such an approach but the overall ergonomics and reloading would be there.

Q: How is your concept different from anything else out there?

Grauer Systems

In addition to what has been already stated, we have a unique combination of performance and functionality. We improve upon the traditional magazine hold by moving the hand forward 2.5 inches. As previously implied, this distance seems to be a magic spot in achieving optimal balance and ergonomics for an AR carbine. This, along with optimizing the design in other ways creates a challenge: such a grip design affixed in this location would interfere with field stripping the upper. That’s why we incorporated our unique dual takedown pin design. It allows the grip component to quickly and easily swing away from the receiver and at the same time still be attached to the weapon so that it can be put quickly back into place. It’s the same basic design that is used on the AR itself. Our product is unique in this regard. In our opinion, any system that hinders the ability to quickly field strip the upper to access the bolt is not suitable for tactical use.

Visit: Gun Values Board

USA - -(AmmoLand.com)- AmmoLand.com’s featured Gun Blog of the Month is the Gun Values Board. www.gunvaluesboard.com

A loose knit but effective coalition of volunteer gun bloggers and forum participants.

The Gun Values Board is all about knowledge, sharing and fun with firearms. It started on 2006 as a meeting place to help enthusiastic people answer common firearms questions and since then it’s been evolving and building a steady stream of useful content for the gunny.

The following is an interview with Nancy, one of the Gun Values Board Administrators and active gun blogger for the board. You can visit Nancy’s slice of Gun Board at www.gunvaluesboard.com/nancy/blog/

NRAHuntersRights.org Blog Interview:

Q: What is your Blog’s Official Name?
A: Gun Values Board Blog

Q: Is Gun Values Board a blog or a forum?
A: It is Both and neither . Gun Values Board is a community site. The members are all gunners of one sort or other, many of them experts and collectors. The forum (www.gunvaluesboard.com/forums/) currently has close to 53,000 post, which we are very proud of, making it a really great source of information. The blog is really a collection of blogs written by members on the Gun Values Board. Each member has their own blog, the common denominator of the blogs is the name and the topic. You can read the best posts on our top articles page www.gunvaluesboard.com/top-articles/ A lot of the people blogging on the board started out as regular users asking and answering questions on the forum, and in the course of their time on the board, started blogging as well.

Q: What is your Online Name that you may post under?
A: Nancy

Q: Where are you located?
A: I am currently located in Israel. All of the other GVB bloggers are American

Q: What is the point of view or purpose of your blog?
A: It would be hard to pinpoint our point of view, since as I have already mentioned, I am not the only blogger on gun values board. It is easier to talk about the purpose of the GVB blogs, which is to share gun knowledge. Since most of our bloggers are either collectors or experts in one gun kind or another, most of the posts are “hardware” type posts, sharing knowledge about the technical side of guns, And post about particular guns of interest. Obviously, there are some gun rights and Second Amendment posts as well, since living in America, and loving guns leaves you with very little possibility to stay away from gun politics.

Q: How long has your Blog been active?
A: The Blog has been active for a couple of years. In the passed year, more and more members have started their own blogs on our site as well. I would love to get more people blogging on the board. It’s a really nice solution for someone who wants to write but doesn’t really like promoting their blog, since the readership is built in, and the blogs are promoted along with the site in general.

Q: What do you do for a living or is your blog a full time job?
A: None of us are full time bloggers. I personally am a crafts person, and the rest of our bloggers have their day jobs as well.

Q: Do you have a specific agenda or goal of your blog?
A: I would say that the goal of the blog is to promote good, in depth, reliable knowledge about guns. I think knowledge is strength, and by promoting it, and making guns more familiar and less mysterious , the fear of the unknown, which is the root of the anti gun movement, will be removed, pulling the carpet out from under most of their pro gun control arguments.

Q: Do you have any other digital sites?
A: Yes, I am involved in several other sites, though non of the sites are mine.

Q: Who else is involved with Gun Values Board?
A: We have a great team including some very experienced people answering tons of questions posted everyday on the forum. The best way to get to know them is to check out our about page on www.gunvaluesboard.com/about-the-team.html . Of course, other than the actual team there are lots of other registered members who contribute in making the site what it is.

Q: What is one thing that you want your readers to know about you?
A: I am really not the issue here . I think that there are very interesting bloggers on GVB for example

Siliconsoccer www.gunvaluesboard.com/siliconsorcerer/blog/ who specializes in Remington and pre 1898 firearms,

Rboatright www.gunvaluesboard.com/rboatright/blog/ who among other things, has an interesting series of post about the stages of fixing up an old gun.

Flynnscot www.gunvaluesboard.com/flynscot/blog/ has a series of posts about valuing your gun and selling it on line.

5madfarmers www.gunvaluesboard.com/5madfarmers/blog/ Who is a collector, through and through.

These are just a few of the bloggers, and I would like to get the word out about them. Most of them started blogging after being active participants on GVB. I enjoy reading their posts so much and learn so much from them, I want to share the wealth.

Q: What was the best thing you did on your blog that go the most reaction from your readers?
A:That’s a hard call – we have posts with over 6000 views but with no comments…and posts with less views but much more comments. One of my favorite posts is this one by silicon soccer, which has also made its rounds on the blog sphere http://tiny.cc/w0up3

Q: What was the worst thing you did on your blog that go the most reaction from your readers?
A: I wrote a well intentioned post about some blogs I love and I spelled one of the names wrong. (I corrected it, obviously). But it was like dropping a bomb in the gun sphere. http://tiny.cc/63ekrae4ev

Q: Obviously since we are featuring you your blog is Pro gun? What do you think the outlook is for the future of gun rights in America?
A: As I mentioned before, there is no way to be a gun lover in America, without getting involved in politics. So yes, the blog is Pro Gun, and as I see it, the only way to improve the gun rights situation America is via education. There is a misconception about guns, and the evil they do, instead of the people behind the guns, and this needs to be straightened out.

Q: What is your favorite firearm and why?
A: Wow, tough question. The jury is still out on that one

Q: What hunting or shooting sports hobbies do you have?
A: I spend as much time at the range as I can, which at this point in time isn’t saying much, unfortunately, but I hope to be back shooting regularly in a short while.

Q: Of the topics you cover what do you enjoy writing about the most?
A: Personally, I like writing about gun stories in the news. The other bloggers on the board are more technical for the most part and write about their collections, valuation, and their love for guns and shooting. One of our newest bloggers, Gunman 1104 posted this wonderful post a couple of days ago. Definitely food for thought. http://tiny.cc/xiiyc

Q: What things would you like to do or expand in your blog to in the future?
A: I would love to get more bloggers writing on Gun Values Board, so that it can fulfill its potential as a central site for gun experts to blog in, and share their knowledge from.

Q: What would you like to say to those that are anti gun or maybe just unsure of the purpose of guns in our society today?
A: Its been said before but is so true, Guns don’t kill, people and stupidity do. It would be better if they directed their energy to being anti crime, and anti criminals, than to be anti gun. It would solve the issues they are worried about in a much more efficient manner.

Also, I suggest that people who fear guns get to know them. It will take some of the mystery away, and help them realize that the power is in the hands of the person holding the gun, not in the gun itself.

Q: What parting remarks or comments you would like to make or promote?
A: I would like to invite gun lovers and experts to start blogging on Gun Values Board www.gunvaluesboard.com Each user has their own personal blog, the readership is already there, and we do what we can to promote the site and blogs further. It really is the easiest and most care free way to start a blog. Its all ready for you – the editor, the blank page and the readers. All you have to do is to find the worlds.

Visit: www.gunvaluesboard.com
Tags: Contest Rules

Recent Site Updates
Recently we created a new search engine for the site, a very long overdue and highly requested tool. This month, we’ll talk a little about it and some of the extra features which many of you may not be familiar with (or even aware of).

The basic search functions still focus on keyword and user searching, but have been expanded to provide more options. For example, a keyword search is no longer limited to phrases. With a drop down box, located under the keyword field, you can select the search to focus on a PHRASE (combination of all words), or search for ALL (each keyword is found) or ANY (any keyword is found) keywords. In addition you can now search through the body of posts and not just subjects. In user searches, you can enter the username and search for topic authors or replies by that specific user. User searching can be combined with keyword searching to create a very specific result set.

We’ve also extended other existing options and added new sorting and display choices. The date range allows you to search on a few date ranges with a newer/older option to ensure you find what you need when your mind can’t remember specifics. The addition of sorting options now allow you to get your results displayed how you prefer them, be it by the author’s name, the number of replies (most popular first), or when the posts were created. To finalize the display options, you now have the ability to see the results as either a list of topics, which has been the standard for years, or to view them as posts. The post option provides you with a short summary of the specific thread which matched your keyword search. This means if you search for a specific keyword, you will see all the resulting posts, regardless if they were topics or replies, where those keywords were found. In addition, each resulting summary will have a link directly to that post, regardless of it’s location in a discussion thread.

A pair of extras were added for Gold+ Team Members. Keyword highlighting within threads jumped to from the search is now available. This makes finding your searched keywords much quicker! Auto-completion of usernames was also added to make it easier to find the user’s name for those searches when you are looking for a long or complicated name. As an optional reference, the auto-completed names are shown to the right of the user box to be used if you desire.

About:
AR15.Com originated in 1996 as a mailing list for firearm enthusiasts. As the years passed and interest grew, a website came into existence to present those same enthusiasts with a means to collect, share, and explore information. Shortly afterwards, a bulletin board was added to create a more interactive experience for the growing list of users. The site was still in it’s infancy, but was growing in popularity. class="wp-caption-text">Virginia Gun Owners Forum

Virginia - -(AmmoLand.com)- March 1st, 2010 marked the one year anniversary of Virginia Gun Owners Forum (VGOF), an online forum community at www.VaGunForum.net.

After the 2008 elections and the democrat controlled senate many gun owners feared that their ability to purchase and own firearms would be legislatively restricted, so Rick Sandlin began work on VGOF – with the vision of creating a one stop shop for all information relating to firearm ownership in Virginia.

Over 1200 individual users frequent VGOF, a bulletin board based forum to discuss anything from the latest Bushmaster rifle to state & national gun politics. As you browse through the forums you’ll find a general discussion section, range & gunsmith reviews, as well as eager young marksmen looking for advice and war veterans eager to give it. As a user you can profit from many experts in gun law, gun safety, reloading, and general gun knowledge.

Most of the information is pertinent to gun owners local to Virginia and VGOF even includes a calendar of local gun shows and gun-related events.

VGOF also serves as a first rate warning center for any infringement on your gun rights under the Second Amendment. Members will report in warnings from the National Rifle Association (NRA), the Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL), and from main stream media outlets. In any given day at the VGOF, several articles will be posted, digested and discussed amongst the members.

The members are what really makes the VGOF community something special. There are members from all walks of life; democrats, independents, republicans, veterans, soldiers, gun store owners, gunsmiths, safety instructors, business owners and individuals. These members band together to create a place to grow their knowledge base and share experiences regarding firearms and firearm ownership.

Finally, if you were thinking this was just an online community you would be quite mistaken. VGOF features a healthy roster of community events, such as meet & greets, open carry picnics, and other outings for members and their friends. Additionally, the online marketplace allows for members to connect with each other to buy sell & trade firearms through the sites marketplace.

So consider stopping by www.VaGunForum.net and saying hello to Rick & the members, diving into the generous amount of online content, and learning a few new tricks from the fellow gun owners on the site.
Tags: Weatherby Nation

Paso Robles, CA - -(AmmoLand.com)- Weatherby’s trailblazing online community for hunters and shooters recently passed the 25,000-member milestone.

The legendary firearms company launched its community, Weatherby Nation (www.weatherbynation.com), in September 2007. In 2008 alone, there were 127,500 unique visitors to the site, which offers free membership.

“Weatherby Nation is one of the first, if not the first, stand-alone online communities created by a firearms company,” noted Brad Ruddell, Weatherby’s vice president of sales and marketing. “It’s been exciting to watch the rapid growth of Weatherby Nation and see how active it has become.”

Ruddell added, “The Nation is much more than a resource on all things Weatherby. It’s a place where passionate hunters and shooters can gather to swap stories and photos, discuss past and future hunts, show off their trophies, and give and receive input on firearms and related equipment. In addition, we are planning a number of exciting enhancements that will make the site even more useful, informative and entertaining for the members.”

Through June 2009, more than 150 forums were active on Spike Camp, Weatherby Nation’s key feature. The forums are categorized by species, types of firearms and other hunting- and shooting-related topics such as ammunition, reloading and optics. As of July 1, there were just under 22,000 posts on nearly 2,500 topics in Spike Camp forums.

Other Weatherby Nation features include an online trophy room, virtual gun rack and online store—the only source for Weatherby Nation gear and apparel. Members can also connect with hunting buddies and join groups with similar interests. Additionally, members have the opportunity to participate in product surveys and be among the first to receive “breaking news” from Weatherby.

Weatherby Nation offers a calendar of events where member groups can post items of interest. The calendar also alerts members to upcoming events on the site, such as live chats with company President Ed Weatherby and other members of the staff.

About:
Founded in 1945, Weatherby, Inc.’s 2009 line features the popular Vanguard® and legendary Mark V® rifles, over/under and side-by-side shotguns in the classic Athena® and Orion® lines, semi-auto and pump shotguns, premium ammunition and security/shooting accessories.
