Las Vegas, NV --(Ammoland.com)- With SHOT Show 2012 fast approaching, a contact of mine in the law enforcement world called the other day to ask what I’d heard about new products to be introduced by the Austrian manufacturer Glock.

I get questions like this because of my new book, GLOCK: The Rise of America’s Gun (Crown), which tells the fascinating story of the pistol maker’s rise to prominence.

The police weapons marketing guy who called me said he’d heard rumors that Glock would finally apply its pistol technology to a carbine.

The company would have an instant market for such a rifle, as one can easily imagine the thousands of police departments across the U.S. that already issue Glock handguns jumping to try a Glock carbine.

I hated to pour water on my caller’s excitement, but I’ve heard this rumor for years, and it’s never been true. All Glock has said is that it will introduce “new Gen4 Models” in Las Vegas later this month. ”

The Gen4 models are another step in [the company's] commitment to producing the best firearm for law enforcement, military, and law-abiding citizens around the world,” Glock Inc. Vice President Gary Fletcher has said in a press release.

“But didn’t Glock introduce ‘new Gen4 models’ at last year’s SHOT Show?” my caller asked, sounding confused.

Indeed. Why would the successful pistol manufacturer repeat itself?1 And why has Glock not taken the seemingly obvious step forward of applying its knowledge and marketing muscle to a basic rifle–or, for that matter, to a .22 pistol that many American target shooters would happily purchase?

One possible answer is that with the advancing age of company founder Gaston Glock (now 82), and growing ambiguity about the future ownership and management of Glock GmbH, the company is hesitating to set out in new directions. In the Austrian press, Herr Glock’s adult children are openly questioning his recent divorce from their mother, Helga, and the founder’s remarriage to a much younger woman. With this kind of distraction back home in Austria, it seems less mysterious why Glock is not charging ahead with truly new products in the United States, even if there would be a natural market for such innovations.

How and when the Glock family sorts out the leadership of their eponymous company will probably help determine whether and when the storied manufacturer brings new guns to the cops and consumers any time soon.

Meanwhile, I wouldn’t hold your breath about big announcements at this year’s SHOT Show.

GLOCK - The Rise of America’s Gun

As I describe in my new book, GLOCK: The Rise of America’s Gun (Crown), the handgun’s adoption as the unofficial firearm of Hollywood brought it to the attention of people far beyond law enforcement and serious gun-owning circles.

Second Amendment advocates fell in love with Glock because the company was singled out for hostile attention by gun controllers, beginning with the phony “Hijackers’ Special”/plastic pistol controversy of the late 1980s and continuing with the magazine - capacity restrictions in the 1994 assault weapons “ban”- restrictions that were aimed in no small part at the large-capacity Austrian semiautomatic.

Glock GmbH and its American unit, Glock Inc., marketed a product that symbolized both law and order, when in the hands of cops and homeowners, and sexy disorder, when wielded by bad guys in movies and on television.

“Gangsta” rappers glamorized Glock, too (it rhymes with a lot of useful rap words).

Now, however, Glock has some image problems. First on its list public relations headaches is the embarrassment generated by a scandal involving alleged statutory rape that rocked the highly regarded Glock professional shooting squad. Glock faces additional questions raised by the imminent criminal trial of Paul Jannuzzo, Glock Inc.’s former chief operating officer and lead in-house lawyer in the United States. All through the 1990s and into the 2000s, Jannuzzo served as a savvy executive, helping to sell Gaston Glock’s wares and protect the company against legal attacks (of which there were many).

Today, Jannuzzo faces state criminal charges in Georgia that he embezzled hundreds of thousands of dollars from his former employer. Glock brought the case to the authorities in Cobb County, Ga., and encouraged that Jannuzzo be prosecuted.

Jannuzzo, in turn, has alleged that the investigation and prosecution amount to a vendetta stemming from personal acrimony with Gaston Glock. Moreover, Jannuzzo, who is in custody pending a February trial date, says that he knows about all manner of financial and tax infractions committed by the Glock corporate empire.

I explore the background and significance of this affair in my new book, GLOCK, where I show how remarkable it is that the company has continued to profit even as its management ranks have been tainted by alleged misbehavior. (Jannuzzo is not the only former Glock lawyer to face criminal charges in Georgia in recent years; there are two others, one of whom has already pled guilty.)

Current company executives and lawyers have denied all of Jannuzzo’s accusations, but if this case goes to trial, I suspect the Jannuzzo defense will try to hang out plenty of (alleged) dirty corporate laundry. In Sep. 2010, Melinda joined SOWF where she works with families and students as a Financial Aid Counselor.

SMYRNA, Ga. --(Ammoland.com)- The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) announced today that it has awarded GLOCK, Inc. an unrestricted open market competitive firm-fixed Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) multiple-award contract.

The 10-year contract is valued at up to $40 million. The agreement makes available for the first time both the GLOCK 22 Gen4 and GLOCK 27 .40 caliber pistols to all ATF agents.

The terms provide additional Federal Agencies the opportunity to ride on the contract in accordance with the Federal Acquisition Regulations.

SMYRNA, Ga. --(Ammoland.com)- SMYRNA, Ga. – Team GLOCK continued their strong season of top finishes at the 2010 International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) National Championship, held Sept. 22-25 in Tulsa, Okla.

Team GLOCK Captain Dave Sevigny won his ninth IDPA National Stock Service Pistol championship and repeated as High Industry champion. Randi Rogers finished second Lady and fifteenth Master-class in Stock Service Pistol.

More than 400 skilled hand gunners from around the world faced 17 scenario-based defensive shooting challenges from low-light shoot house, as well as shooting while moving and engaging moving and partially obscured targets.

Sevigny and Rogers used the GLOCK 34 in 9×19 during the tournament. Statistics as reported from the IDPA Championship Equipment Survey demonstrate that the majority of competitors choose to compete at the IDPA Nationals with GLOCK pistols in hand.

“This definitely was one of the more complex IDPA Nationals I have attended,” stated Sevigny. “I’m excited to have won on such challenging courses.”

Rogers added, “This was a demanding match. Each competition is a learning experience and I was able to take away some very important lessons from each challenge.”

Other notable finishes came from Ohio police officer Robert Vogel who won the Custom Defensive Pistol division and High Law Enforcement championship with a GLOCK 21SF and 15-year-old Tori Nonaka from Va. who won the High Junior title with a GLOCK 34.

Team GLOCK will next compete at the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) Nationals in South Carolina, Oct. 1-2.

SMYRNA, Ga. --(Ammoland.com)- Team GLOCK continued their season-long run of top finishes by winning the Production Division at the 2010 USPSA Georgia State Championship, held Sep. 10-12 in Dawsonville, Ga.

The annual handgun tournament was hosted by River Bend Gun Club, with the Production Division being the largest division represented.

“Georgia State was a great way to continue the practical shooting portion of the shooting season,” stated Rogers. “The match had a great mixture of target placement including moving targets, tight leans and partially obscured targets.”

Team GLOCK will next compete at the IDPA Nationals in Tulsa, OK. on Sep. 23 to defend their 2009 National Championship titles.

The lawsuit involved claims for trade dress infringement, trade dress dilution, and unfair competition based on ASA’s sales of a .22 caliber pistol known as the M22, which is manufactured in Austria by ISSC.

GLOCK alleged in the lawsuit that the M22 has an appearance that is confusingly similar to the distinctive appearance and overall image of the GLOCK pistols.

Without admitting liability, ASA and ISSC agreed to resolve the matter by redesigning the M22 to differentiate its appearance from the appearance of the GLOCK family of pistols, to cease further imports of the M22 until the redesign is complete, and to pay GLOCK an undisclosed amount.

The specific terms of the settlement are confidential.

SMYRNA, Ga. --(AmmoLand.com)- Team GLOCK continued to shoot their way to the top as both Dave Sevigny and Randi Rogers earned top finishes at the Colorado State Steel Challenge Championship, held July 30-31 in Eaton, Colo.

The duo even took the time to spend time with the Junior Shooters on hand.

Team captain Sevigny won both the “Iron Sight” Limited division with a score of 93.49 seconds and the Open “Race Gun” division scoring 82.71 seconds. Team GLOCK member, and former Colorado resident, Rogers finished as High Overall Lady. Rogers earned two 3rd place finishes and a personal best score of 118.11 in Limited and 111.71 in Open division. Sevigny and Rogers each used GLOCK 34 and S&J Custom GLOCK 17 9×19 pistols in the competition.

It was the third year the Weld County range hosted the Steel Challenge – an eight-stage pistol shooting competition, in which the course of fire requires a minimum of 195 rounds and each competitor must hit five steel targets ranging from 7 to 35 yards in distance with multiple strings of fire on each stage. The top scores shot by each competitor are kept while the slowest time is excluded from each stage.

“Our season schedule allowed us to dedicate training in steel shooting sports exclusively during the past month,” said Sevigny. “With the results we have posted this year, we expect to contend once again at the Steel Challenge World Championship later this month.”

An equally optimistic Rogers added, “Participating in the Colorado Steel Challenge was a great way to prepare for the upcoming World Championships. I am looking forward to the competition in California.”

SMYRNA, Ga. --(AmmoLand.com)- Team GLOCK’s championship season showed no signs of slowing down at the 2010 USSA Pro-Am Championship held July 17-18, in Tulsa, Okla.

Held at the world-class United States Shooting Academy, Team GLOCK Captain Dave Sevigny won both the Professional class Limited and Open divisions, while teammate Randi Rogers made a strong showing in her first Pro-Am appearances in the Amateur class.

Both Sevigny and Rogers used GLOCK 34 in Limited (iron sight) and S&J Custom GLOCK 17 pistols in the Open divisions. Pro-Am competition features set “par-time” courses of fire with falling and reactive steel targets. The prestigious tournament continues to rise in popularity as evidenced by the more than 300 competitors and top ranked professionals that participated this year. For the third straight year, GLOCK Inc. sponsored the Pro-Am.

In all previous Pro-Am championships, the winning margin was separated by one point among the Professionals. This year Sevigny took charge with a 231 winning score in the Limited division with a decisive 11 point margin over second place finisher Bob Vogel, who also shot a GLOCK. In the Open division Sevigny scored a 223, leading to a 4 point margin of victory over Max Michel.

Sevigny is the only Professional class competitor to finish in the top three in the last three Pro-Am events.

Sevigny said, “As always, there was deep competition here in Tulsa. This is a very exciting event for those of us who are competing, as well as for the spectators. I was relieved to secure the wins here after being edged by one the past two seasons.”

Making her Pro-Am debut, Rogers had a strong finish in the Amateur class with a 180 score in Limited division to earn 2nd Lady/3rd overall and 3rd lady/23rd overall in Open with a 156 score. The Master class Rogers scored very well in the Amateur Limited ranks, defeating all three competitors listed as “Grand Master,” the top class in shooting sports.

“The Pro Am is a unique shooting competition that tests each shooters speed and accuracy,” said Rogers.

“Each stage has a limited par time and the shooter must hit as many targets as possible. I was very pleased with my performance at my first Pro Am and I look forward to attending next year.”

Team GLOCK looks to continue their winning ways on July 30-31, at the Steel Challenge Colorado State Championship in Eaton, Colo.

GLOCK Donates $500,000 to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation

Taniya’s father, James Wright, died in a training accident in 1987 while serving as a member of the U.S. Army’s Special Forces. Through donations such as GLOCK’s, SOWF was able to cover Taniya’s expenses at the University of South Florida (USF) allowing her to concentrate on her studies. She graduated from USF in 2006 with a degree in Mass Communications and now works as an associate producer at the NBC affiliate in Tampa.

SMYRNA, Ga. --(Ammoland.com)- Team GLOCK had a strong showing at the World Class Steel-Northeast Regional Championship in Old Bridge, NJ, held June 4-6.

Team GLOCK Captain Dave Sevigny won the high overall championship in the Open division and finished 2nd overall in the Iron division. Teammate Randi Rogers finished 4th overall in the Iron division and 10th overall in the Open division. Both Sevigny and Rogers used a GLOCK 34 for Iron division and a GLOCK 17 by S&J Customs in the Open division.

Competitors from all parts of the country, including several top ranked Steel Challenge champions, accounted for the 200- plus entries. The annual Steel Challenge sanctioned tournament featured seven courses of fire and 175 minimum rounds of ammunition. GLOCK has been a sponsor for the World Class Steel tournament for several years; however, this was Team GLOCK’s first appearance at the event.

In the Open match, Dave Sevigny secured the win by shooting a fast time of 2.15 seconds and posting average scores of 2.33 seconds during the final stage of the day. Named the “Zig-Zag,” this stage hosts an array of staggered 12” steel plates at distances of 18 to 60 feet.

Sevigny said, “It is extremely satisfying to win another Open championship. With only 1.09 seconds separated first through third place, it proves that the margin of victory is not forgiving and that the competition is always tough at this level.”

Along with her top placement in both matches, Randi Rogers shot an Iron division overall stage win on the stage named “Five to Go.”

Rogers added, “The World Class Steel in Old Bridge was an excellent Steel Challenge match. It was challenging to shoot at Bianchi and then switch gears to shoot Steel Challenge less than a week later. I am pleased with my performance and look forward to competing in more Steel Challenge matches later this season.”

The LG-417 is the ultimate refinement of laser sighting systems for Glock pistols. The Lasergrips encircle the polymer grip of the Glock and anchored in place by a locking-block attachment that discreetly covers the beavertail. This skeletonized design leaves the backstrap open and adds little to the width of the stock Glock grip, giving it the advantage of fitting common LE/MIL duty holsters.

It is instinctively activated by a pressure switch built into the front strap of the polymer Lasergrips. Simply grasping the firearm in a normal shooting grip activates the laser. The master on/off switch is located on the left-hand side and uses new microprocessor touch sensor switch technology versus a mechanical switch found on most other Lasergrips. Users simply press the recessed pressure switch to turn the unit on or off. All electrical components fit into the Lasergrip, which is small in size and is ergonomically designed for comfort.

Two #2032 batteries are located in the palm swell on each side of the Lasergrips, providing over 4 hours of constant-on beam time. Rubber overmolding covers both the activation button on the front strap and the master on/off switch, providing improved grip while shooting.

Another new feature of the LG-417 is that it uses the smaller 3.3mm diameter laser diode versus the standard 5.6 diameter diode that is found in most all other brands of laser sighting devices. Smyrna, GA - -(AmmoLand.com)- The International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) Nationals were held at the United States Shooting Academy in Tulsa, Oklahoma from September 23-26, 2009. Team GLOCK Shooting Squad Captain Dave Sevigny won his 8th IDPA National Championship in the Stock Service Pistol (SSP) division along with the High Gun Industry category while teammate Randi Rogers won her 3rd title in the High Lady category.

The IDPA Nationals was host to more than 350 competitors during the four day annual defensive pistol shooting tournament. Participants fired a minimum of 241 rounds through seventeen courses of fire which featured moving targets, a shoot house, low-light scenarios requiring use of a hand held flashlight, shooting from cover and prone positions including from in and around motor vehicles, with target distances ranging from three to ninety feet.

Team GLOCK Captain Dave Sevigny dominated the competition with an overall best time of 222.56 seconds and won fourteen stages in the Stock division with a GLOCK 34 in 9×19. Stock division runner-up Gordon Carrell and 3rd place finisher Phil Strader, scored 260.46 seconds and 264.01 seconds respectively with S&W-M&P pistols. Sevigny has now won the prestigious IDPA National championship eight times in ten appearances and finished in the top three overall in each contest; the only competitor to accomplish such a feat. “After beginning in the GLOCK Sport Shooting Foundation I joined IDPA so there’s some tradition here. It was a good competition and I was happy to compete at the IDPA Nationals once again,” said Sevigny.

Randi Rogers of Team GLOCK won the High Lady title in 7th place Stock/Master class with a final score of 309.42 seconds with a GLOCK 34 in 9×19. “The IDPA Nationals was a pleasant end to the 2009 shooting season. I look forward to take what I have learned throughout the season, perfect my craft during the off season and come back even stronger next year,” said Rogers. ”A favorite stage of mine was Stage 8 named “El-Prez At The Movies.” This was a 12- round, three target, Limited Vickers stage. The course of fire required a start with only six rounds in the pistol, then to draw and engage each target twice, complete a mandatory reload and re-engage each target twice with no make up shots. I shot the stage in 9.40 seconds with two points down for a total time of 10.40 seconds. This time placed me 5th out of 31 Master-class Stock division competitors on this stage,” added Rogers. Twenty-eight women, roughly 8% of the field of competitors, were entered in the ladies category in 2009. Three-time Ladies IDPA National champion Julie Goloski-Golob finished in 14th place Stock/Master class and was the High Lady runner-up at 327.78 seconds with an S&W M&P.`

Another notable finish came from Enhanced Service Pistol division champion and High Law Enforcement winner, Robert G. Vogel, who used a GLOCK 34 in 9×19 with a score of 230.47 seconds to capture his 3rd IDPA National championship.

Smyrna, GA --(AmmoLand.com)- Dave Sevigny, Jessie Abbate and Randi Rogers of the Team GLOCK Shooting Squad won Limited-10, Limited and Production titles at the USPSA Back to Back Nationals held September 12-19, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The competition featured 16 stages in each of the Open/Production and Limited/Limited-10/Revolver matches.

At the Production Nationals, 12 women in the 139 competitor field battled for the High Lady title. Jessie Abbate won the Production title by finishing 37th overall and 3rd A-class at 75.41%. Randi Rogers finished 3rd Lady, 72nd overall and 9th B-class at 66.89%. Both Abbate and Rogers used a GLOCK 34 in 9mm. During the competition, Jessie Abbate won 11 of 16 stages in the ladies category and shot clean without a single procedural, miss or no-shoot penalty target. Her closest competitor was runner-up Julie Goloski-Golob of S&W who was defeated by 115 match points with her M&P pistol.

Abbate said, “I fought hard for the Production match, knowing that my team mate Randi Rogers, and also Julie Goloski-Golob would be fighting hard as well. It was a tough match with a lot of noshoots, partials, and plenty of places to make mistakes, so I knew that I would have to be consistent and just keep pushing forward every day.”

Randi Rogers commented on one of her favorite stages, named “Table Choices” saying, “I thought this stage was interesting because of the movement. Moving backward can be challenging because it is important to remember to keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. Overall I shot 26th out of 138 competitors on this stage with a time of 9.05 seconds and 54 out of 60 points. Shooting the USPSA Production/Open Nationals was a great learning experience for me this year. I look forward to taking the lessons I learned and building on them as I start preparing for next year’s shooting season.”

For the overall title, Team GLOCK Captain Dave Sevigny finished 2nd in a strong Production division field. Of the 138 competitors in the Production Nationals, 41 held the rank of Master and Grandmaster. Sevigny spoke highly of Ohio police officer Bob Vogel for winning the Production National championship.

“Vogel was so accurate here. The match was loaded with partial targets blocking out most of the A-zones. Someone could score 6 points on a target to someone else’s 10 and that can hurt you bad in the standings. Bob found a way to score well on nearly every stage so congrats to him on winning his second USPSA Production title.”

Both Vogel and Sevigny use GLOCK 34 pistols in Production division. GLOCK continues to lead as the #1 choice among competitors and winning performances. Competitors using GLOCK have won seven out the nine championships since USPSA introduced Production division in 2001.

Sevigny, who described his 2009 Production National match performance as “uncharacteristically erratic,” repeated last season’s rebound by winning the 2009 Limited-10 National championship using a GLOCK 35. Fifteen talented Master and Grandmasters competed among the 86 person Limited-10 field. Sevigny finished in the top 6 in all of the 15 stages, including four overall stage wins. Bob Vogel, shooting a GLOCK 24, improved his 2008 Limited-10 Nationals 7th place finish at 93.78% by placing 2nd at 99.97%.

Sevigny said, “It took a lot to overcome the point deficit I was up against with only two stages and 225 points to go. I stayed positive, worked hard and the finals worked to my favor this time.”

Sevigny is now a 9-time USPSA National champion having won the most overall Production and Limited-10 division titles with five and three respectively, and one in Limited division. Sevigny is also the only person in USPSA to finish each Production and Limited-10 Nationals competed in at 95% or better.

Randi Rogers came back from her Production defeat to claim the Limited-10 Ladies title over nine other women finishing in 32nd place at 70.91%.

“While shooting back to back nationals the challenge is to keep a strong mental game throughout both matches. After shooting the first match it was a struggle for me to let go of the events of the previous experience and concentrate on the new match but I felt confident in my shooting and was able to turn that into a National Championship,” said Rogers. Rogers used a G35 for her most recent title.

Using an S&J Custom GLOCK 24 in the Limited division, Jessie Abbate repeated as ladies national champion with a 50th place finish, 20th Master at 77.04%. Abbate defeated Lisa Munson, the only other Master class ranked woman in USPSA, by 115 match points and won 7 of 15 stages in the ladies category.

“Having shot a clean match in Production, it gave me the confidence and drive I needed to continue on for the Limited match. Shooting two Nationals back to back is very draining, since we all strive to shoot perfect every stage. But I knew what I needed to do to be able to be successful for the second match,” said Abbate.

The 2009 Ladies Limited title marks Abbate’s fifth USPSA National pistol championship and second year in a row she won Back to Back titles.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. —-(AmmoLand.com)- Jessie Abbate makes winning national titles look routine. That’s because for the second year in a row Abbate has won back-to-back national titles at the Smith & Wesson 2009 U.S. Practical Shooting Association’s (USPSA) National Handgun Championships.

This year Abbate claimed both the Production and Limited division women’s titles. In 2008 she was crowned the Limited and Limited-10 champion.

In the Production division match, Abbate took top honors among the lady shooters posting a final score of 1097.9378 outpacing runner-up and team Smith & Wesson member Julie Goloski-Golob by more than 111 points. Abbate’s score was also good enough to finish 37th overall among all shooters.

Golob, who resides in Glasgow, Mont., secured second place with a final score of 986.7540. In third was another Team Glock member, Randi Rogers of Durango, Colo. who shot 973.9135. Rounding out the top five were Dianna Liedorff of Sperry, Okla. in fourth with 851.0833 and Carrie Jamrogowicz of Missoula, Mont. in fifth with a final score of 799.0553.

In the Limited division where Abbate holds the rank of Master, the second highest skill level in the sport of Practical Shooting, she again put on an impressive display shooting a score of 1050.2892 and finishing over 114 points ahead of Lisa Munson of Marysville, Wash. who came in second with 935.3943. Munson shoots for Team SVI and also holds the rank of Master.

Tasha Hanish of Cave Creek, Ariz. took third finishing just behind Munson with a score of 933.3767. Carina Randolph of Richardson, Texas finished fourth shooting 923.4845 and in fifth place was Lily Chung of San Jose, Calif. with 768.0001.

The Nationals which were held at the Desert Sportsman’s Rifle & Pistol Club outside Las Vegas September 11-19 drew more than 620 top shooters from across the country and around the world.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — -(AmmoLand.com)- Glock’s Dave Sevigny made it two in a row as he again took the Limited-10 national title at the Smith & Wesson 2009 U.S. Practical Shooting Association’s (USPSA) National Handgun Championships.

Sevigny of Smyrna, Ga. held off Robert Vogel by just 0.481 points, shooting a final score of 1397.1343 and never finishing lower than 6th on any of the 15 stages to take the title. Earlier in the Production division championship it was Vogel who came out on top.

“The battle between Dave and Bob is one of the hottest match-ups in the sport right now. Each has tremendous natural ability and immense skill, and either can win but this time it was Dave whose determination won out,” explained Michael Voigt, USPSA president.

Vogel, a fulltime police officer from Wapakoneta, Ohio, finished with a final score of 1396.6533 for second place. In third was Springfield Armory’s Robbie Leatham of Mesa, Ariz. shooting 1305.1814.

Rounding out the top five were Max Michel of Covington, La. in fourth with 1280.6242 and Team Smith & Wesson’s BJ Norris of Tyler, Texas with 1277.3862 in fifth.
