Illinois Proposed "Assault Weapons Ban" is Back & the Fight Is On

Columbus, OH --(Ammoland.com)- House Bill 1294, introduced by Rep. Edward Acevedo (D- Chicago), would prohibit acquiring new firearms that are classified as “assault weapons.”

The new definition for “assault weapon” would include many commonly used hunting firearms such as semi-automatic shotguns with a thumbhole stock or a pistol grip.

An exemption in the bill would allow a person to possess a so-called “assault weapon” while hunting and traveling to or from hunting. However, this is no relief for sportsmen or gun enthusiasts as the exemption would not include target shooting or the possession of “assault weapons” while at home.

The bill has been passed out of the House Committee on Rules and could be voted on by the full House soon.

“House Bill 1294 would ban many firearms that are commonly used by hunters in the state,” said Evan Heusinkveld, U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance director of state services. “Sportsmen need to call their representatives today to protect their right to own a firearm.”

Take Action! Illinois sportsmen and gun owners should contact their state representatives and ask them to oppose House Bill 1294. Tell them that many firearms commonly used for hunting and target shooting will be banned under the bill. To find your state representative’s contact information, visit www.ussportsmen.org/LAC.

New Jersey --(Ammoland.com)- As you may have heard, it seems one of the endless number hoplophobic groups of anti-gun bigots is proposing to hijack Valentines Day to boycott Starbucks for not discriminating against law-abiding gun-owning customers and shoving them to the back of, if not entirely off, the bus.

Starbucks has resisted pressure from rabid anti-gun groups who are trying to force them into preventing customers from entering their premises with either a concealed or openly carried handgun.

Starbucks policy is to allow carry wherever local laws permit them. We support them in their effort to stand up to these anti-gun extortionists.

At the end of this email I have placed a link to a PDF document that you can download, print, sign and take to your favorite Starbucks to show your support.

It contains the following text which was written for us by one of our newest members – Kim Ball.
