class="wp-caption-text">NRAFoundation.org

FAIRFAX, VA --(Ammoland.com)- The NRA Foundation proudly announces the donation of a unique Anniversary Model 1911 pistol from Colt’s Manufacturing Company. Celebrating 100 years of the 1911, the commemorative pistol is currently up for auction on GunBroker.com.

After being formally adopted by the Army in the year 1911, the pistol gained its designation as the Colt Model 1911 and was adopted by both the Navy and Marine Corps in 1913. During a century of service, the 1911 served as a staple of the United States military and as an iconic symbol for it. Among those who used it, the 1911 won a reputation for unmatched ruggedness, reliability and effectiveness.

The pistol, based on the model O1918, features over 300 hours of hand engraving by Colt master engravers in classic American style scroll. Authentic ivory grips display images of Sam Colt and a WWI Doughboy holding a Model 1911. High relief 24 karat gold inlays feature the text “100 years of Faithful Service” and the Colt Dome on the top of the slide and a profile of John Browning with the serial number “1911COLT001” on the right side. The left side includes the text “1911 2011” with the Rampant Colt inlaid in the center.

This one-of-a-kind firearm is being auctioned on GunBroker.com with a hand-made walnut museum-style display case donated by Brookfield Case of Coopersville, Michigan to support the unending battle for protection of Americans’ right to bear arms. The auction will end during The National NRA Foundation Banquet at the 2011 NRA Annual Meetings in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

To commemorate this rare opportunity, the 100th Anniversary Colt Model 1911-Master Engraved Edition winning bidder will receive Colt’s hand-drawn sketches, signed by each of the engravers, in a custom frame with NRA coin and lapel pin. In addition to this unique firearm auction, the future 1911COLT001 owner will also have the opportunity to tour Colt’s Manufacturing Facility in Connecticut with a Colt Executive.

Lieutenant General William M. Keys, USMC (ret.), President and Chief Executive Officer of Colt’s Manufacturing Company, stated, “In 1911, we teamed up with John Browning and commissioned him to design a pistol chambered in .45 Automatic Colt Pistol to win the Army’s new pistol competition. Now, 100 years later, it’s our rare privilege, as the original maker of the Model 1911 pistol, to team up with The NRA Foundation to furnish this Anniversary Model for sale to the highest bidder.”

“Colt’s generous donation will assist The NRA Foundation in securing the future of NRA’s programs for the American public to experience,” said John DaSilva, National Manager, Events and Marketing of NRA Field Operations. “The support from our industry partners is vital in our successful mission and grassroots efforts to service the needs of NRA’s programs.”

To purchase tickets for the 2011 National NRA Foundation Banquet, visit www.nraam.org or call 703-267-1417. Live bidding is currently underway at www.gunbroker.com and concludes on the night of the event on 4/28 at 9:00 PM EST.

The NRA Foundation is the country’s leading charitable organization in support of the shooting sports, awarding more than $140 million in grants since its inception in 1990. Through its efforts, the Foundation provides essential funding for programs such as youth education, law enforcement training, conservation, and marksmanship training.
Tags: <a

Some retailers expected to sell as many guns in two days as they typically do in a month.

South Carolina had the nation’s first tax holiday on guns last year after legislators tacked it on to a tax break on energy-efficient appliances. The state Supreme Court threw out that law in May because of an unrelated energy amendment. Lawmakers restored the gun tax break as a one-time event in the budget this year.

The 7.5 percent sales tax still applied to ammunition during the Second Amendment Weekend.

About:<br

City of Chicago. The NRA brief asks the U.S. Supreme Court to hold that the Second Amendment applies to state and local governments through the Fourteenth Amendment.

The McDonald case is one of several that were filed immediately after last year’s decision in District of Columbia v. Heller, in which the Court upheld the Second Amendment as an individual right and invalidated Washington, D.C.’s ban on handgun possession, as well as the city’s ban on keeping loaded, operable firearms for self-defense in the home.

In September, the Supreme Court agreed to consider the McDonald case, on appeal from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. That court incorrectly claimed that prior Supreme Court precedent prevented it from holding in favor of incorporation of the Second Amendment. As the NRA argued at the time, the Seventh Circuit should have followed the lead of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals decision in Nordyke v. King, which found that Supreme Court precedent does not prevent the Second Amendment from applying to the states through the Fourteenth Amendment’s Due Process Clause.

Support for incorporation of the Second Amendment is very strong, and numerous additional briefs have recently been filed and signed by both federal and state officials.

Recently, an overwhelming, bipartisan majority of members of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate signed an amicus curiae, or “friend of the court,” brief supporting the NRA’s position that the Second Amendment is incorporated against the states through the Fourteenth Amendment. The amicus brief bears the signatures of a record 251 Members of Congress and 58 Senators—the most signers of a congressional amicus brief in the history of the Supreme Court.

In addition to the federal brief, a large bipartisan group of state legislators and other elected officials from all 50 states, along with more than three-fourths of state attorney generals also filed amicus curiae briefs in the McDonald case this week. They, too, are supporting the NRA’s position that the Second Amendment is incorporated against the states through the Fourteenth Amendment.

About:
GunBroker.com

Florida --(AmmoLand.com)-After a three-year fight, the Orlando Sentinel reports, gun rights advocates in Florida won the right to keep firearms in their cars at work.

According to a story in the Orlando Sentinel, you can take your gun to work, but there are restrictions. “Florida’s Preservation and Protection of the Right to Keep and Bear Arms in Motor Vehicles Act of 2008″ isn’t completely cut-and-dried. So don’t put your pistol in your lunchpail until you know the rules.

First, not just anyone can bring a gun to work.

Only those with a concealed weapon permit from the state of Florida are protected by the law. The NRA had pushed for this change for years, arguing that many law-abiding gun owners were left unprotected on their way to and from work because their employers prohibited firearms on their property.

The Florida Chamber of Commerce and the Florida Retail Federation fought hard against the bill. They argued it would trample businesses’ private property rights by taking away their ability to set policies for their employees.

But a federal judge upheld the law, which applies to full- and part-time employees, independent contractors, volunteers, interns and other similar positions. Employers aren’t allowed to search workers’ vehicles looking for guns — or even ask employees if they have one, according to the story in the Sentinel.

What was labeled the “guns-at-work” law really should be called the “guns-in-the-parking-lot” law, gun-rights advocates say.

“It conjured up images of people having guns in their office or in their plant. It was deliberately misleading,” NRA lobbyist Marion Hammer said.

The law doesn’t allow gun-owners to carry semi-automatics weapon into offices or supermarkets where they work. Rather, it only allows them to leave it locked up in their car outside. In effect, it prevents most employers from telling their workers to leave their weapons at home.

There are exceptions. The law doesn’t apply to schools, prisons, nuclear power plants, defense plants or businesses that have combustible or explosive materials.

The exemptions built into the law became controversial after the law was passed. Some employers, including Disney and Universal Studios, twisted themselves into odd shapes to get an exemption.

Disney claims an exemption because it has a permit for explosives — namely, fireworks used in its extensive pyrotechnic displays. Universal Orlando houses a work-study program staffed by Orange County Public Schools, so it also prohibits firearms on its property.

A Disney security guard defied the ban and sued after he was fired. Eventually, the case was dismissed.

State law also allows people to carry a gun in their vehicle even without a concealed-weapon permit, as long as it is secured and “not readily accessible for immediate use.”

So, businesses can’t kick you out for having a firearm on their property, as long as it’s locked up and not being brandished.

About:<br
