class="wp-caption-text">Lewistown Pistol Club

The Lewistown Pistol Club had been making preparations to celebrate its proud history and 50th anniversary of serving law enforcement, competitive pistol shooters, and the training of local men and women in the safe handling of various firearms.

The club has been a loyal supporter of the second amendment rights and an NRA member club that was originally founded by employees of the Avisco Corporation, a company which is a historic cornerstone employer here in Mifflin County.

Since it’s inception as a not for profit organization, the Lewistown Pistol Club has had hundreds of members who have served our local communities by supporting our civilian and law enforcement communities as a training source, as well as producing a proud history of shooters who have consistently excelled at the Camp Perry National Competitions. In 2009, members of the club were part of the National Champion Service Pistol Team from Pennsylvania. The club is a current member and supports most of the major competitive pistol discipline organizations.

Now, as the result of a neighboring property being sold, the efforts of the new homeowner could close the club down. To date, the actions of our new neighbor have caused a short cancellation of a scheduled and prepaid match for over 100 shooters from 6 states and having PA DCNR to cease training at the club facilities- producing a significant loss of ongoing revenue.

Now, the neighbor has filed a lawsuit seeking an injunction barring the clubs use of their constructed shooting ranges using the argument that such use violates the safety zone laws of PA.

The case references Pacurariu vs. Com, 744 A.2d 389- claiming that the 34 P.S. 2505 grants protection to ANY HOMEOWNER WITH A DWELLING WITHIN 150 YARDS and makes it ILLEGAL to discharge ANY FIREARM within that safety zone for ANY REASON.

If successful, this case and the “Safety Zone” issue would not only end the use of firearms at the Lewistown Pistol Club, but could set a dangerous legal precedent that would have far reaching implications for many of our sister clubs throughout the commonwealth.

The Lewistown Pistol Club will continue to support a full schedule of events for the 2011 season. class="wp-caption-text">Northeast Wisconsin High Power Rifle League

Wisconsin --(Ammoland.com)- A brief overview of the Northeast Wisconsin High Power Rifle League

This league had its beginnings in Sheboygan County back in the early ’80′s.

At that time it was known as the Sheboygan County Service Rifle League and consisted of teams from Kiel, Plymouth, Sheboygan, and Sheboygan Falls. We fired a standard 50-rnd NMC with three sighters right up front.

In those days a score of 450 was pretty impressive. Remember, the AR-15 was still just a blip on the horizon. The weapon of choice then was the M1.

After just a couple of years Plymouth dropped out of the league, but we them picked up Appleton. Then Valders came into the fold, and Waupaca was with us for a while, too. Valders, Sheboygan Falls, and Waupaca are now history but we’ve picked up Twin Cities (Neenah/Menasha) and Nicolet (Green Bay) over the years. This last year (2010) Kaukauna has joined forces with us as well. So our current roster stands at six teams.

During the summer months we shoot one match at each teams home facility. A competitor may shoot twice on any given day if he or she so chooses. At the end of the year, your three best scores are used to determine your rank in the over-all lineup. On any given match day, the three best scores in each stage of the match plus the aggregate are pitted against the three best from each other team. For example, Kiels three best offhand scores are matched against the three best offhand scores from Appleton, Twin Cities, Nicolet, etc. The high team gets 6 points for this with subsequent teams getting 5, 4, 3, and so on in the order of value from top to bottom. So if a team makes a “clean sweep” (6 points in each stage plus the aggregate) they can pick up a possible 30 points. At the end of the season, the team with the most accumulated points is declared the Winning Team for that year.

The cost of running this league is as follows. Each shooter must pay a once-per-year fee of $10.00 to get in. Then you pay a fee of $7.00 per match fired. The $10.00 entry fee gets you a T-Shirt with the league logo on it, and pays for your scores to be sent into the NRA. This is an NRA sanctioned league.

During February we have an annual awards banquet/business meeting to reap the fruits of our labor. There is a lot of camaraderie, and we have a pretty good time of it.

Scores have crept up over the years with better equipment coming on the market, and better talent. Today scores in the 480′s are not uncommon. We have even broached the 490′s on a few occasions. All shooting is done from 100-yds in this league.

If you live in an area where there are two or more neighboring teams within a reasonable driving distance you may wish to consider forming such a league. If you want any additional information, feel free to give me a call at 920-439-1253. Don J. Kemps or visit: Ammoland.com)- This is when I remind you of the critical importance of your vote in the General Election. What you do or fail to do on election day will play a part in determining the political future of Maryland for at least the next 4 years.

Please make a point of voting, urge your family members and friends to vote. Make copies of the candidate recommendations and distribute them. If you can, volunteer to be an election judge or work for your candidates at your voting precinct.

Our Methodology

When we make candidate recommendations, we are primarily concerned with the candidate’s position on 2nd Amendment issues. Unfortunately, the political landscape rarely presents us with clear cut decisions, especially when 2 or more candidates are equally qualified on 2nd Amendment criteria. We are then compelled to consider other factors as well.

There is probably no such thing as the perfect candidate. We must do the best we can for our members with the candidates who are running for election. Not recommending the best available candidate just because he or she is not the perfect candidate does a disservice to our members.

In a race between equally pro 2nd Amendment non-incumbent candidates, in addition to the candidate’s responses to our survey, any personal knowledge we have of the candidate, information from our members who bring their personal knowledge to our attention, related political experience, electability (being pro 2nd Amendment is not enough to get a candidate elected), the strength of the candidates personality.

When a race involves an incumbent running for re-election to the same seat or a different seat, the primary consideration is the incumbent’s past voting record. Many candidates know how to answer a questionnaire in order to gain the approval of this or that special interest group. Therefore, we consider candidate surveys to be of limited value, especially when an incumbent’s voting record is readily available.

Talk is cheap, votes are what count.

The very last and least consideration is the candidate’s political party affiliation. Race, gender, creed and any personal connections or issues we may have with a candidate are never considerations.

Difficult Decisions

This election, we were faced with difficult choices in many of the Maryland General Assembly races. We ultimately recommended some of the candidates District 8, District 30 because they are incumbents with voting records. We were very impressed with the following challengers and we believe that they would serve equally well if elected:

District 8 – Senate: Dee Hodges is a former member of Mt. Washington Rod & Gun Club who spent many sessions in Annapolis testifying in support of our 2nd Amendment Rights. As President and then Chairman of the Maryland Taxpayers Association, she has testified for passage of a Taxpayer Bill of Rights.

District 8 – House: Norma Secoura returned a perfect candidate survey and has related experience which would benefit her as a Delegate.

District 30 – Senate: Ron Elfenbein combines strong support for the 2nd Amendment with the energy and enthusiasm to make good things happen for the citizens of Maryland.

District 32 – House: Stephanie Hodges and David Starr, both presented solid pro-2nd Amendment candidate surveys and both are certainly worthy of serious consideration by gun owners in District 32.

GENERAL ELECTION – CANDIDATE RECOMMENDATIONS

The Candidate Recommendations are in Adobe “PDF” embedded below.

Please click the link below to download and save the Candidate Recommendations “PDF” file. Forward the recommendation to your personal email list, club email list, friends, family members, etc..

Remember to take the Candidate Recommendations with you when you vote!

Ammoland.com)- The National Shooting Sports Foundation has awarded grants totaling $231,796 to nine shooting facilities through its Range Partnership Grant Program.

New marketing strategies designed to motivate individuals, particularly youth and inactive shooters, to go target shooting and hunting dominated this year’s winning proposals.

“With target shooting participation at a record high, this is the perfect time to encourage millions of active shooters to share their passion for our sports with a youngster or adult newcomer,” said Steve Sanetti, president of NSSF, trade association for the firearms industry.

“Shooting ranges serve as learning and training centers for our sports, and these grants help ranges remind people in their communities that they can get a supervised, safe introduction to shooting close to home.”

Said Melissa Schilling, NSSF’s manager of recruitment and retention, “We’ve seen how successful these grants can be in fueling growth at shooting ranges around the country. More people are interested in shooting than ever before, and the proposals NSSF has funded remind them to give shooting a try.”

The following shooting facilities received grants:

The Wyoming Antelope Club, St. Petersburg, Fla., $25,717.50, to fund the “Classic Rimfire Shooting Gallery” for recruiting new, young shooting participants by channeling their attraction for video games into a shooting arcade experience, conducted in a controlled environment that teaches firearms safety and the principles of marksmanship.

Corry Rod & Gun Club, Corry, Pa., $3,500, for recruiting youth and their parents to shotgun sports, teaching safety and proper gun use. The goal is to make youth and their parents realize that recreational shooting and hunting are safe, fun, family-oriented, lifetime activities.

Tripoli Triggers Firearms, Williamsport, Pa., $78,750, to introduce new shooters, lapsed shooters and in-home teams such as husbands and wives to training programs for handguns and personal protection, including the laws related to handgun ownership, shooting techniques and responsible firearms ownership. This program works with the region’s top businesses and the general public, providing a valuable community partnership.

Cardinal Shooting Center, Columbus, Ohio, $31,185, for a marketing initiative to attract new shooters with an emphasis on youth and their families. This proposal includes promotion of a new sporting clays and 5-Stand ranges and publicizing the underutilized international bunker trap. Newcomers will be provided quality instruction and a positive experience — the keys to building lifelong participants.

West Coast Armory Indoor Range, Bellevue, Wash., $33,936, for a regional marketing effort to promote shooting in a fun and contemporary manor to new firearms owners, youth and women. The strategy will utilize advertising training seminars and other programs in nontraditional media.

A&S Indoor Pistol Range, Youngswood, Pa., $29,198.44, for a New Shooter Education Campaign. This multi-faceted marketing campaign will attract new shooters to the facility, with the expectation of increasing female participation by 40 percent and the retention rate of new shooters from 30 to 50 percent.

Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Lansing, Mich., $16,510.00, to utilize Facebook and Google ads to raise awareness of shooting ranges in the state. The ads will link to DNRE, which is committed to helping grow the shooting sports and improve hunter skills and safety through practice at shooting ranges.

St. Maries Gun Club, St. Maries, Idaho, $3,000, for a program to introduce youth to the proper safety of firearms and trapshooting while providing an opportunity for first-time adult shooters (parents or mentors) to shoot a round of trap free. This effort is being created to reactivate membership to a dormant club.

Rushton Gun Club, Inc., West Monroe, La., $10,000, for the “Fathers Afield” program intended to introduce young men and women under the age of 15 to shooting, and then hunting, by working with mentors. The goal also is to recruit inactive hunters and shooters to serve as mentors, encouraging them to do so via a media marketing campaign.

This is the third year that NSSF has distributed funding to qualifying target ranges through its Range Partnership Grant Program. A total of 30 proposals were submitted for consideration.

Learn more about NSSF’s yearly Range Partnership Grant Program at nssf.org.

About NSSF
Arizona Game and Fish Department

Arizona --(AmmoLand.com)- Beginning Wednesday, May 12, the Arizona Game and Fish Department’s Ben Avery Shooting Facility will be switching to its summer hours of operation to take advantage of the cooler morning temperatures and earlier sunrise.

To simplify the schedule and reduce confusion, the mid-day closures have been eliminated. Shooters can now enjoy the range anytime between the opening and closing hours. Hours vary slightly between the main firearm range and the shotgun range.

However, regardless of range, shooters should check in 30 minutes prior to closing time to ensure ample shooting opportunity.

Summer hours of operation are:

Main Range – pistol, rifle, and archery

Monday – CLOSED

Tuesday – CLOSED

Wednesday – 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Thursday – 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Friday – 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Saturday – 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Sunday – 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Clay Target Center – shotgun

Monday – CLOSED

Tuesday – CLOSED

Wednesday – 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Thursday – 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Friday – 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Saturday – 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Sunday – 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Clay Target Center note: Shooting during the hours after dark is limited to the trap and skeet fields only. There are no lights for the sporting clays courses.

Learn how to shoot, join a shooting program or league:
The Arizona Game and Fish Department offers a variety of structured introductory target shooting programs. There are programs for women, children, families, and co-ed participation. Department programs are taught by certified range safety officers to assure participants learn how to be safe, responsible, and skilled when using firearms, air guns or archery equipment. For many of these programs, the equipment is provided. To learn about the shooting programs available, contact the Ben Avery Shooting Facility at (623) 582-8313 or visit www.azgfd.gov/basf.

In addition to being a fun and safe recreational activity, target shooting also has a positive impact on local and rural economies. Target shooters’ purchases support local business, communities, and shooting ranges, benefiting the local workforce and their revenue streams. Furthermore, the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act, a federal excise tax on the purchases of ammunition, firearms, and archery equipment, is collected and then appropriated back to state wildlife agencies for wildlife management, public access, and hunter safety and shooting programs.

The Ben Avery Shooting Facility is on the northwest corner of I-17 and Carefree Highway in north Phoenix, approximately 10 minutes north of Loop 101. The Clay Target Center is just west of the main facility. Located on 1,650 acres, Ben Avery is one of the largest government-operated recreational shooting complexes in the world. It averages more than 120,000 shooters per year and is home to a number of regional- and national-class competitions and other major events. Target shooting available at the facility includes rifle, pistol, air gun (indoor), shotgun, archery (indoor and outdoor), as well as a number of other specialty shooting disciplines.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, age, or disability in its programs and activities. If anyone believes that they have been discriminated against in any of the AGFD’s programs or activities, including employment practices, they may file a complaint with the Deputy Director, 5000 W. Carefree Highway, Phoenix, AZ 85086-5000, (602) 942-3000, or with the Fish and Wildlife Service, 4040 N. Fairfax Dr. Ste. 130, Arlington, VA 22203. Persons with a disability may request a reasonable accommodation or this document in an alternative format by contacting the Deputy Director as listed above.
Tags: Merigold Hunting Club

MERIGOLD, Miss.--(AmmoLand.com)- After years of planning, working together and looking for ways to enhance the value of a membership, the members of Merigold Hunting Club www.merigoldhuntingclub.com are pleased.

The dynamics of constructing a facility that can achieve each member’s objectives can be challenging. The leadership of Merigold worked in a fashion that utilized the skills of the membership.

“Merigold Hunting Club was built off of the vision of our founding members. We wanted to create another chapter in the lure of our club,” stated Andrew Westerfield, President of Merigold Hunting Club. “By using resources from within our membership, we felt that the experience at Merigold couldn’t be duplicated.”

“The lodge is such a success that we have had guests from all over the country come and stay with us”

Merigold’s lodge is 7,000 square feet, built from cypress, pecan, willow and poplar gathered from the grounds of Merigold Hunting Club. The lodge has three guest suites which each has a full bathroom, kitchen, bar, washer & dryer and sitting area. The lodge is centrally located between a new boat dock, game care center, and the crossroads to multiple hunting locations within the 13,000 acre club. The architects reviewed the needs of the club, reviewed the topography of the land and determined a fitting location. The lodge produces spectacular views of water, woods, cabins and food plots. The Board of Managers didn’t leave any stone uncovered. The lodge is also fully equipped with a full commercial kitchen and outside patio that can accommodate the entire membership, their families and friends.

Since the groundbreaking of the lodge, the 51 members of Merigold have enjoyed the new amenities. “The lodge is such a success that we have had guests from all over the country come and stay with us,” mentioned Westerfield.

The Mississippi Delta lures hunters from all over the world and the supply of premium clubs is dwindling. Merigold Hunting Club values their tradition and plans to continue building off of the natural resources that attracts hunters from all over the world.

Mississippi is known for its rich wildlife and commitment to natural resources. Merigold Hunting Club does not take that for granted. In the upcoming hunting seasons, Merigold, the oldest hunting charter in Mississippi, will continue to take advantage of Mississippi’s treasures.

Merigold Hunting Club, LLC is considered the Father of Mississippi Hunting Clubs dating back to its conception in 1911. Located just outside of Cleveland, Mississippi on over 13,000 acres, Merigold offers a premiere outdoor experience for members and their families. With a strong game and land management philosophy the members of Merigold have developed an exclusive outdoor experience designed specifically for the serious outdoorsman.
Tags: <a

Unfortunately, more than a handful were “solutions in search of problems.” These bills were red herrings, generated by interest groups concerned with keeping their members engaged in the legislative process.

Senate Bill 420 is a classic example of a red herring.

Under current law, you may use reasonable force to repel a home invader without the risk of civil liability. Yet the Associated Gun Clubs of Baltimore and other pro-gun groups that support SB 420 claim that you could be sued by a home invader. They argue that their bill would solve that problem. They are wrong.

SB 420 would allow you to use violence against an intruder who breaks into your home with the intent to commit a burglary or crime of violence. The bill would deny you protection if you acted with malice or gross negligence. These terms – intent, malice, and gross negligence – would give rise to disputes that will fuel civil suits.

SB 420 would repeal the longstanding rule that you may act reasonably in defense of your home. Protecting unreasonable actions is, perhaps by definition, dangerous public policy. The bill invites violent responses, to no obvious good end.

At the public hearing on SB 420, I asked witnesses for examples of successful lawsuits against people who exercised their right to protect themselves and their families in their home. No one could identify a case, in Maryland or elsewhere, and no one has identified a case since the hearing.

The bottom line is clear: SB 420 seeks to solve a problem that does not exist. The bill’s proponents know this, and they are trying to change the subject. Rather than debating the merits of their idea, they are telling anyone who will listen that I am trying to “circumvent the will of the entire General Assembly.” They want you to think I oppose your right to protect yourself simply because I oppose their bill. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

State law protects your right to use reasonable force to protect yourself and your family in your home. I support that law. I will oppose attempts to undermine it, and I will continue to oppose bills designed to solve problems that do not exist.

As chairman of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee, I am obligated to make sure the Senate focuses on the most important pieces of legislation – bills that are well-crafted and seek to offer good solutions to problems affecting Marylanders. SB 420 does not meet that test.

Click here for Senator Frosh’s Blog Entry: http://www.brianfrosh.com/blog?key=1239

About:<br

After 45 minutes, the Sergeant called back and advised the AGC that, based upon its appearance, the .22 caliber rimfire GSG-5 is considered a copy of the 9mm H&K 94.

When questioned, the Sergeant also indicated that if anyone who purchased one of these firearms and subsequently sells it in a private sale, both the buyer and the seller could be prosecuted. Approximately 150 citizens took the time to attend today’s hearing in opposition to the Governor’s proposed regulations. Not a single person in attendance spoke in favor of them.

There was a tremendous representation of the firearms community in attendance. Clubs from all over the state sent members to testify including Fin Fur and Feather of Millis, Holbrook Sportsmen’s Club, Maspenock Rod & Gun Club, Danvers Fish & Game, Reading Rifle & Revolver Club, Haverhill Hound Rod & Gun Club, Southborough Rod & Gun Club, MRA, Braintree Rifle & Pistol Club, Harvard Sportsmen’s Club, Taunton Rifle & Pistol Club, MIT Pistol & Rifle Club, Hopkinton Sportsmen’s Club, Bass River Rod & Gun Club and others.

GOAL was also very pleased to see the many junior shooters, parents and coaches that took the time to come to the hearing and testify against the proposed regulations. It was very inspiring to listen to the junior shooters talk about how the shooting sports had changed their lives for the better. Perhaps one of the most memorable quotes of the day came from junior’s coach Rick Johnson who concluded his testimony by stating: “Laws and regulations don’t save lives, education does.”

GOAL would like to thank State Representatives George Peterson and John Fernandes came to the hearing to testify in opposition of the proposal. Representative Carolyn Dykema also sent her legislative aide to attend the hearing.

Others that came to testify against the regulations included Jake McGuigan of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, Lt. Scott Sencabaugh, of the Willmington PD, Michelle Young and Brian Pouliot Harvard law students, representatives from the Boy Scouts and Selectwoman Elizabeth Coughlin.

“I am always proud to have the honor of representing our members, today I was exceptionally proud. The well thought out personal testimony that our members provided today expressed the intelligence, passion and personal investment they have in standing up for their rights,” said Jim Wallace Executive Director of GOAL. “To watch these junior shooters get up in front of a large audience and stand up against a government that is trying to destroy their heritage was a lesson for all of us and a sight I will not soon forget.”

It was announced at the hearing that the period to submit written comments on the regulations has been extended to Friday, July 24, 2009. To submit written comments, please send them attn: Catherine Bailey, Assistant General Counsel, Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, One Ashburton Place, Room 2133, Boston, MA 02108.

No action was taken on the regulations at today’s hearings. We should know within a few weeks what the administration intends to do with them.

GOAL would like to thank all of those who traveled and took time out of their day to attend and testify. Attached is the the written testimony that GOAL provided at today’s hearing.

<a
