Michael Waddell
In the world of outdoor television, Michael Waddell is huge. Since joining Team Realtree in 1994, Waddell has gone from cameraman to producer to host of Realtree Road Trips. Waddell also hosts the very popular, Bone Collector’s.

Lee and Tiffany Lakosky
Many people have already gotten hooked on the success of Gettin’ Close with Lee & Tiffany, one of the highest rated shows in outdoor television. Now Lee and Tiffany Lakosky, star in the reality based outdoor program, The Crush with Lee & Tiffany on the Outdoor Channel.

Stan Potts
Stan Potts has hunted whitetails for 40 years, harvesting numerous whitetail bucks with a bow, three of which scored over 200 inches. His hunting successes have been featured in North American Whitetail magazine and several other media sources. He has appeared in several hunting videos and television shows, including Realtree Outdoors and Hunter’s Specialties Prime Time series. He is a co-host of North American Whitetail Television on the Outdoor Channel. He is also featured on Whitetail Country on ESPN and Hunt Masters on the Outdoor Channel.

Chuck Adams
Chuck Adams is the world’s best known and most widely published bowhunter, authoring 4,550 magazine articles and 10 full-length books. He appears 25-30 times each year on ESPN, WGN, and TNN television networks and stars on ESPN’s Whitetail Country and Advantage Adventures shows. Adams is the first archer to accomplish the “Super Slam” by taking of all 27 species of North American big game. He also has 111 Pope & Young record-book trophies and 181 Safari Club International records to his credit—the most in history.

Ralph & Vicki Cianciarulo
Vicki Cianciarulo, of Lanark, Illinois, is an experienced bowhunter, an enthusiastic nature photographer, the better half of North America’s Favorite Hunting Couple, and co-host of the award-winning Archer’s Choice and The Choice television shows alongside her spouse, Ralph Cianciarulo.

Bobby Hart
Bob specializes in Long Range Shooting and Hunting, Custom Rifle Building, and reloading. He also offers an ‘accuracy package’ that has been proven to greatly increase the reliability of many ‘factory’ rifles. This combined with a Hart designed muzzlebrake are a few of the general gunsmith procedures done in-house.

Dan Whitmus
Dan Whitmus grew up hunting and fishing in Washington State where his knowledge of the outdoors landed him a manager’s role at a 20,000 acre duck and goose lease. In 1999, Dan moved to Idaho to continue his career in the hunting industry, concentrating on elk hunting. Since that time, Dan has won two world elk calling titles and nine state and regional championships.

Fishing Seminars Speakers and Special Guests

Bob Clouser
Bob’s love of the outdoors, especially fishing, led him into the fishing business. He is the creator of the famed “Clouser Minnow” fly pattern, known world-wide and has caught more varieties of fish than any other fly. He continues to guide, teach and share his enjoyment with others. He will present casting demonstrations, using visual aids and casting weighted flies and lines, as well as lectures on “fly fishing for Smallmouth Bass”- (Catching smallmouth from top to bottom using flies and) “fly fishing Adventures”, about various species that can be caught on fly rod and flies.

Mark Menendez
There are few bass fishing professionals on the national scene like Mark Menendez. On the water, the 44-year-old Paducah, Kentucky angler has spend the past 17 years earning the reputation of a warrior on tour. His career earnings of more than $900,000.00 along with success in individual tournaments (three wins and 18 top-ten finishes) and season long point standings are testament to his passion and skill for competition.

Aaron Martin
Missouri native Aaron Martin is quickly becoming a fixture in the bass fishing universe. As the host of the Bass Edge television show, he reaches millions of viewers through the Versus Network and World Fishing Network HD in the U.S., and on WILD TV in Canada. He is also a co-host on The Edge, the #1 bass fishing podcast on iTunes, and is a frequent contributor to www.bassedge.com and the “Inside Edge” monthly e-newsletter.

Other Seminars
Albert Wutsch, Director of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Academy of Culinary Arts, will again share his butchering skills during daily deer butchering sessions. Sessions will include: fabricating one side of a hanging carcass; breaking down carcasses into sub primal cuts; fabricating cuts into steaks, roasts, stir fry, butterfly and other cuts. Wutsch’s presentations were some of the most popular seminars at last year’s show.

Tim Flanigan will present a daily seminar on “Tips for Successful Outdoor Photography.” Flanigan has been shooting wildlife photos for the print media for more than thirty years with photo credits in numerous books, magazines, newspapers, greeting and post cards, calendars, travel brochures, phone books and advertisements. His photography can also be seen on the covers of the Pennsylvania Game News Magazine and their annual calendar.

Randy Oitker
At age 21, Randy Oitker has already established himself as a professional archer, hunter and exhibition shooter. Oitker travels the country as a precision archer and is known for shooting multiple arrows and hitting multiple targets simultaneously. In 2007, Oitker broke all archery history records by shooting 4 arrows striking 4 individual targets (lifesavers) simultaneously at the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Expo in Harrisburg, PA. Oitker recently traveled to London, England for the Guinness Book Of World Records TV show called Guinness World Records Smashed to make archery history! On April 7, 2009. Oitker shot 6 arrows with one shot 6 arrows at a time and simultaneously hit 6 separate balloons!

Raptors Up Close, a program designed for all ages to educate and teach conservation through an entertaining demonstration with live birds of prey, will present demonstrations on February 9-13. “Raptors Up Close” is filled with visually exciting displays illustrating the power, skills, and beauty of raptors including owls, falcons, hawks and other birds of prey.

Taste of the Great Outdoors
On Tuesday, February 9, from 5 to 8 PM, students from the culinary school at Harrisburg Area Community College will present a variety of delectable game and fish recipes in the Small Arena to the hundreds of attendees who can’t wait to sample unique game recipes and learn new cooking techniques from cooking professionals. During the event over a thousand free samples will be consumed.

2010 Eastern Sports & Outdoor Show Features More Than Ever

Iowa Gun Owners

Iowa – -(AmmoLand.com)-Recently Iowa Gun Owners, with the help of several dedicated volunteers, attended the Waterloo gun show.

The crowd was impressive and diverse. We met with doctors, waitresses, line workers, pastors, Democrats, and Republicans. All are tired of the government being able to regulate their right of self-defense and were happy to sign our petition.

The energy was contagious and there were times when we were simply overwhelmed by the crowds and couldn’t interact with everyone. What a great problem!

IGO was able to secure an additional 550 signed petitions for the REAL Right-to-Carry bill next session and raise some much needed financial support as well.

We are going to be at the following locations this fall:

• Nov. 6-7 in Altoona, held at the Adventureland Park (305 34th Ave NW), from 5-9pm on Friday to 9am-5pm on Saturday.
• Nov. 13-14 in Cedar Rapids, held at the Hawkeye Downs Building #1 (4400 6th St SW) same times as above.
• Dec. 11-12 in Waterloo, held in the McElroy Auditorium (257 Ansborough St) same times as above.

MISSOULA, Mont.—-(AmmoLand.com)- More than $23,000 in hunting guns, bows and gear will be raffled at five 2010 consumer sports shows in the Ultimate Elk Hunter’s Raffle presented by International Sportsmen’s Expositions (ISE) and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

Raffle monies will be used for RMEF habitat projects in the respective ISE show states.

In 2009, RMEF passed 5.6 million acres of habitat conserved or enhanced, and over a half-million acres opened or secured for public access.

Five prizes valued at $4,500 total will be raffled at each 2010 ISE show, including:

• San Mateo, Calif.—Jan. 14-15
• Sacramento, Calif.—Jan. 21-24
• Phoenix, Ariz.—Feb. 26-28
• Salt Lake City, Utah—March 18-21

To enter the raffle, show attendees may purchase tickets at the RMEF booth. Each ticket represents one chance to win a prize in a drawing. Purchasers can place their tickets into different hoppers for a chance at different prizes, or all tickets into one hopper to increase their odds for a special item.

At each ISE show, separate drawings will be held for each of the following items:

New York, NY --(AmmoLand.com)- What he found was there are those who are willing to commit criminal acts by selling to someone they believe can’t possess a gun legally.

But that is already a crime and the law would just need to be enforced!

Bloomberg also discovered that you can’t stop straw purchases the vast majority of the time.

I love this one – because it totally destroys what Bloomberg claims he can accomplish by requiring background check for private sales! The admission that 16 out of 17 straw purchases attempted at the gun shows were successful proves that background checks won’t stop criminals from getting guns.

Even more obvious
If private sales had do go through a background check, the same people who sold guns to someone who said they couldn’t pass a background check, could simply break the background check law and still sell the gun without the check. If you are going to break one law, why not two, or ten? Duh.

The change in the number of criminals getting guns by making private sales go through background checks: no change, just more hassles for everybody else - and THAT is Bloomberg’s real goal.

ALSO, I just watched the video on Fox News of one of the sales. I don’t think the seller even heard the undercover agent say he wouldn’t be able to pass a background check – the agent said it quietly while the seller himself was talking! The microphone, which was on the agent, picked it up, but it was pretty clear to me that the seller did not hear the statement.

Of course admitting that the seller was unaware of that statement would screw up Bloomberg’s amateurish “sting” and the truth hasn’t stopped Bloomberg before.

That’s why its vital to have petitions signed from grassroots voters in his district! At our most recent gun show we obtained over 500 signatures and we’d like to get even more in Council Bluffs.

GRNC Needs Volunteers for Upcoming Concord Gun Show

Waco, TX --(AmmoLand.com)-A unique event will debut next June in Waco Texas – a hunting and fishing expo and a gun show in the same location. “This will be a one-stop event for anyone involved in hunting, fishing and the shooting sports,” said Whitetails Unlimited Field Director Kevin Greb.

The Sportsman’s Expo & Gun Show will be June 11-13, 2010, at the Heart of Texas Fair Complex in Waco.

Monarch Expo and Marketing Services, a Southern Deer Stands company, is partnering with Whitetails Unlimited in organizing the event. “This three-day event will feature education seminars, and youth and family activities in conjunction with the show,” said Rob Griffin, president of Monarch Expo and Marketing Services. “This is something new, it’s exciting, and it’s going to be like no other Expo you have been to before. We are customer service focused, creating an Expo with many unique benefits for sponsors, exhibitors, and attendees.”

The Fabulous Flintlocks of Cecil Brooks

Remember when NRA President Charlton Heston raised a rifle defiantly into the air during his famous “cold, dead hands” speech? That rifle was a Cecil Brooks flintlock, as are the pistol and three rifles presented here by the National Firearms Museum. Our exhibit includes rifles presented to Congressman J.C. Watts, Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton, and Lt. Colonel Oliver North.

Cecil Brooks was a Lowell, Ohio gunsmith who began his career in the 1920s as a blacksmith, taxidermist and sign painter. In 1955 the NRA commissioned him to craft the rifle to be presented to the principal speaker at the Association’s national convention, a tradition that continued each year until his death in 2006 at age 93.

Each of Brooks’ presentation rifles were flintlocks of the 18th-century Pennsylvania or Kentucky style carried by Americans into the new frontier. Stocked in curly maple from trees selected by Brooks, and with sterling silver furniture and gold inlays, the rifles required up to 700 hours of bench time to make.

Over the years, Brooks rifles were presented to Presidents, statesmen, military leaders, and other luminaries. But, as American Rifleman magazinenoted in 2005, describing the common element captured by news photos of the yearly presentation ceremonies, “No matter what the status of the man or woman clutching the prized Brooks rifle – from Governors to Senators to national icons – the image on those photos is the same: of mere mortals touching perfection.”

Iowa - -(AmmoLand.com)-Our goal was to spread the message of Iowa Gun Owners to like minded 2nd Amendment supporters in Iowa as well as obtain petitions to the Iowa State Senate urging the Senate to vote on the REAL Right-to-Carry bill.

(After receiving a tie vote in the House last session of 49-49, our next goal is to obtain a vote in the State Senate so we can inform you, our members, where your State Senator stands on the 2nd Amendment.)

Our booth at the show was a tremendous hit! Iowa Gun Owners succeeded in obtaining over 500 signed petitions to the Iowa State Senate from Friday night through Saturday afternoon!! That’s 500 new people who are now aware that there is a No Compromise gun rights group in Iowa at last, dedicated to fighting for their right to keep and bear arms. Many of these people joined as regular dues paying members as well.

Iowa Gun Owners was also pleased to have State Representative Kent Sorenson drop by and meet some of our members and friends!

At the show we met a lot of interesting people from the Central Iowa region. All are tired of Iowa’s terrible gun laws. One of these people was a woman from Eastern Iowa. Originally from Austria, this woman has lived in Iowa for the past 18 years and has no criminal background of any kind. She told us that she was born in Austria, right after it was freed by Allied Forces in 1945.

While having no personal knowledge of that time, she vividly remembers her parents and neighbors telling her about the gun registration and eventual confiscation initiatives that preceded Austria’s takeover by the Axis forces.

She told us that she supports our work 100% because she can see the gun laws in the US and in Iowa heading right down that road unless we organize and stop them now!

Oh yeah, and her sheriff won’t give her a permit to carry either because he doesn’t think the Constitution mentions anything about carrying weapons for self-defense.

The overwhelming message we took away from Des Moines is that the people of Iowa are sick and tired of a permit system that requires law abiding citizens to beg permission from the government to be able to defend their families.

The excitement at the No Compromise philosophy of IGO’s REAL Right-to-Carry bill was contagious. We had doctors, line workers, pastors, laborers, farmers, and even some law enforcement officers (yes, in full uniform) sign our petition and join our organization.

For all the members that came by and introduced themselves to us, thank you. It is a big encouragement to meet our members in person.

Our next gun show is in Council Bluffs. Dates are October 9 and 10, 5-9pm on the 9th and 9am-5pm on Saturday and it’s being held in the Westfair Amphitheatre (22984 Highway 6).

This will be an important show for us because as we press ahead to obtain a vote on our bill in the State Senate, Senator Mike Gronstal, Majority Leader of the Senate from Council Bluffs, will be a major obstacle to overcome. It will be vital to have grassroots pressure ready to bring to bear on him in the form of petitions during the session.

So if you live in the area of South West Iowa, and especially if you are in the Council Bluffs area, please come out and meet us!

Moline, IL --(AmmoLand.com)-Firearms enthusiasts from all over the world participated in Rock Island Auction Company’s Premiere Firearms Auction on September 11, 12 & 13.

Strong bidding participation drove sales to nearly $8 million as firearms collectors took the opportunity to bid on and own the many museum quality items in this sale. As the value of firearms continue to hold true not only are buyers adding to their collections but ultimately investing in their future.

Once again strong prices were obtained for collectable firearms during a faltering economy with the high bid of $425,500 winning an extraordinary factory engraved, digital “1 of 1000” Winchester model 1873.

This 3 day sale proved highly successful with a 98% sell through rate, pleasing both buyers and sellers.

Several pieces of history were offered, among them were a rare historic and deluxe Tiffany & Co. Smith & Wesson .32 double action 4th model revolver exhibited by the factory at the 1893 “World’s Columbian Exposition” in Chicago commanded a price of $103,500. Another centerpiece of this auction was a magnificent pair of highly embellished exhibition quality Adolph Frohn, Suhl Germany pistols that brought a high bid of $172,500. A magnificent presentation pair of exhibition grade, silver mounted, gold inlaid flintlock T. Dobson pistols made for the Sultan of Turkey sold for $69,000.

An American icon and investing favorite, over 500 Winchesters were offered in the September sell. Lot 1701, a very fine special order Winchester model 1876 deluxe lever action rifle sold for $23,000 while an outstanding Winchester model 1866 lever action rifle hammered above estimate at $25,875. A rare deluxe factory engraved New Haven Arms Co., Volcanic lever action no. 2 navy pistol with ivory grips earned $48,875.

Collectors with interest in the West and cowboy legend had a plethora of items to choose from. This auction offered firearms from the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans museum. The Cowboy star’s fame drove prices, most of the items reaching above the high estimate. Both of the factory engraved Winchester model 21’s presented to Roy Rogers sold within estimate at $46,000 and $43,125. Above estimate prices were attained on a Cole Agee engraved Colt SAA documented as being Roy Rogers “Holster Gun” ($23,000) and an elaborate custom relief engraved and gold-plated Colt SAA ($12,650). A documented historical Audie Murphy presentation to Roy Rogers Colt pre-war/post-war single action army revolver with factory letter garnered a price of $19,550.

The rare and quality derringers was led by a highly embellished exhibition quality factory cased gold inlaid Gaulois palm pistol ($17,250) followed by a factory engraved Southerner Derringer with ivory grips ($13,800). Another amazing piece from this collection was a magnificent relief silver eagle hilted Tiffany made sword from famous Flayderman / Medicus collection realizing $23,000.

Always a collecting desire, the 300 plus Colts in this auction brought strong bids leading with an above estimate bid of $28,750 for a cased custom engraved gold and silver inlaid Colt deluxe SAA by master engravers R.J. Smith & Siegfried Rentzchke. An exceptional black powder Colt frontier six shooter single action etched barrel revolver brought $40,250 and an outstanding Hartley & Graham engraved black powder Colt SAA with factory letter sold for $23,000.

The September auction was a perfect time for many sporting enthusiasts to expand their collection before the hunting season. The sporting arms in this auction featured the E. Warner Bacon Collection. A successful bid of $25,875 took home a scarce engraved and gold inlaid Ithaca Flues model Sousa grade double barrel 16 gauge shotgun with extra barrel. A desirable Winchester model 12 28 gauge skeet grade takedown slide action shotgun garnered $9,200, almost twice the low estimate! An exceptional Holland & Holland .375 H&H Magnum bolt action sporting rifle with scope hammered at $12,650.

The collection of Winchester Model 70’s drew bidding interest to a total of over $300,000. Headlining was an exceptional Pre-64 Winchester transition model 70 bolt action carbine&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.brownells.com%2F' rel='nofollow' target='_blank'>carbine in rare and desirable .35 Remington caliber with factory box (sold $20,700) followed closely by an outstanding Pre-64 transition Winchester model 70 super grade bolt action rifle in rare 250-3000 Savage caliber with factory box (sold $14,950).

Of the over 500 military items in this auction the lugers did exceptionally well. Both a 1899 style Swiss test luger serial number “20″ and an original DWM model 1902 luger carbine with matching stock sold above estimate for $48,875 & $34,500 respectively. Interest was also high in a rare Nazi presentation Walther PPK pistol with NSDAP shooting prize slide inscription, party leader grips and capture documents which secured a $28,750 bid.

Rock Island Auction ventured out of its normal arena of expertise and offered many Victorian era pieces including gambling items, slot machines, vintage advertising signs, ivory canes, spurs, back bar bottles and more. Of the slot machines a scarce character manufacturing company/ mills one arm bandit carved figure nickel slot machine stole the show selling for $7,475. A metal Oshkosh Brewing advertising sign reached $3,737.

As a whole the September auction was a success, with a high sell through rate and sales reaching nearly $8 million. This auction had something for every level of collecting with interested buyers setting the auction prices not a house reserve. The result was satisfied buyers and sellers alike, a valuable goal for any auction house.

AB 962 -HANDGUN AMMUNITION REGISTRATION

CRPA Urges the Governor to VETO AB 962 for the following reasons:

Through the collection of personal information, AB 962 creates a privacy rights issue and creates a real potential for identity theft. The detailed personal information collected includes: name, residential address, date of birth, phone number, drivers license number, signature and thumb print of ammunition purchasers. There is no requirement for secure handling or eventual disposal of the personal records of purchases by vendors. Customers could be targeted for identity theft and burglaries, including theft of firearms.

AB 962 will potentially limit smallbore rifle youth programs, including 4-H, ROTC, Scouts, and high school and college programs, due to increased costs. Youth shooting sports programs depend on discounted and specialized ammunition obtained through government subsidized programs and out of state discount vendors that supply ammunition in bulk. Big box stores don’t stock specialized .22 target ammunition and typically won’t or can’t order it for youth programs.

AB 962 will negatively impact hunter education training and safe handling programs for juniors.

AB 962 will not provide any funding source for monitoring and regulatory enforcement of this proposed new law. Local law enforcement will be saddled with enforcement of this law. In light of current cutbacks in local law enforcement, it is not reasonable to expect local jurisdictions to expend limited resources on an unnecessary law.
AB 962 is an unnecessary measure. It is already unlawful for persons prohibited from possessing firearms to obtain or possess ammunition.

SB 585 – COW PALACE GUN SHOW BAN

CRPA URGES the Governor to VETO SB 585 for the following reasons:

Supporters of SB 585 have tried to link illegal activity to gun shows at the Cow Palace; however, there is no documented evidence from law enforcement of any criminal activity associated with the Cow Palace gun shows.

Gun shows are safe; promoters are mandated to provide law enforcement to police gun shows.

Under existing laws gun shows are regulated through the Calif. Dept. of Justice (DOJ) and through the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF).

Guns and ammunition sold at any show are sold by licensed dealers and are subject to the same state and federal laws and waiting periods as those sold at retail establishments or through private transfers.

Gun shows provide a well regulated venue for legitimate hunters, members of the shooting sports and gun collectors.

Hunters, sport shooters and gun collectors should be able to maintain the ability to assemble in a public facility for the purpose of viewing and purchasing firearms, ammunition and sporting accessories.

California Has Two Anti-Gun Bills Heading To The Governor’s Desk Need Your Action

Sacramento, California --(AmmoLand.com)- Yesterday, the Senate gave final approval to Senate Bill 585 by a 21-18 vote. SB585 now heads to the desk of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) for his consideration.

SB585 is a stepping-stone to banning gun shows on all publicly-owned property in California. Introduced by State Senator Mark Leno (D-3), SB585 would prohibit the sale of firearms and ammunition on the property or inside the buildings that comprise the Cow Palace in Daly City, just outside of San Francisco.

The Senate also passed Assembly Bill 962 yesterday by a 21-18 vote. AB962 will now return to the Assembly for concurrence.

As we reported earlier this week, AB962 was amended by the Senate in an effort to make the bill easier to pass. It remains, however, a serious threat to our rights.

The Senate removed a requirement that ammunition retailers be licensed to sell ammunition. In addition, the bill would no longer prohibit the private transfer of more than 50 rounds of ammunition during a 30 day period.

Despite these changes to the bill, AB962 is still unacceptable and represents a dire threat to our ability to exercise our Second Amendment rights. Ammunition retailers would still have to store ammunition in such a manner that it would be inaccessible to purchasers. The bill still requires that individuals purchasing ammunition be fingerprinted at the time of sale, mandates that dealers keep these records and make them available for inspection by the Department of Justice.

Finally, mail order ammunition sales are still prohibited under AB962.

SHOT Show 2010 – Firearms Industry Can’t Miss This

California – -(AmmoLand.com)- Despite California’s bans on “assault weapons,” “unsafe” handguns, private gun sales, and sales of two handguns in a 30-day period; its 10-day waiting period on all gun sales; and its denial of carry permits to people who don’t have the right connections, the Golden State’s murder and robbery rates are 12 and 20 percent higher, respectively, than in the rest of the country.

Nevertheless, the Brady Campaign calls California’s “assault weapon” ban “a model for the nation,” and gives the state a high “grade” just for having more gun control than other states. Washington, D.C.’s city council adopted California’s “assault weapon” ban and “unsafe handgun” ban whole cloth in January, backtracking on handguns this summer only in the face of court challenges.

And then there’s Garen Wintemute, of the University of California (Davis), who in September released another of his “studies” in favor of gun control. His new piece is called “Inside Gun Shows: What Goes On When Everybody Thinks Nobody’s Watching.”

“Gun shows” are just the hook, however. While repeating gun control supporters’ mantra about the need to run instant background checks on people who buy guns from private parties at gun shows, Wintemute admits important factors that undercut his goal.

First, he notes that straw purchases—the very purpose of which is to thwart the background checks he pretends to be concerned about—”are a major source of crime guns.” Second, he admits that “The proportion of all gun sales nationwide that occurs at gun shows is relatively small” and that “most sales at gun shows involve licensed retailers,” who are already required to perform background checks.

As you probably have already deduced, Wintemute has his sights on something more than just requiring background checks on all gun sales at shows. Eventually getting to the bottom line, he concludes that

“Regulating private party sales just at gun shows will not end the problems associated with these anonymous and undocumented transactions. Most of them occur elsewhere already. … It would be preferable to regulate private party gun sales generally.”

That’s the law in California, where private sales are prohibited, transfers of firearms are delayed by a 10-day waiting period, and sales are permanently recorded by the government.

If you think you’ve heard it before, you’re right. In 1976, the Brady Campaign, then named National Council to Control Handguns, advocated delaying handgun sales and registering handguns, before banning the possession of handguns altogether. Let’s hope Wintemute is as successful today as the Brady Campaign was a generation ago.

If it does pass out of the Assembly it will need go back the the Senate for a final vote on the floor. Please urge our members to contact their representatives in the Assembly and the Senate and ask for a NO VOTE.

SB585 (Leno) GUN SHOW BAN This bill would prohibit the sale of firearms and ammunition at the Cow Palace and would thereby make a violation of that prohibition a misdemeanor. This bill would ban having a gun show at the Cow Palace, which is a state owned facility in the South San Francisco area. If it passes, it will likely be expanded to ban gun shows on any public property, such as fairgrounds, throughout the State. It is a major attack on the right of sportsmen and other firearms owners to assemble, communicate with each other, and to purchase new, used and collectible firearms, accessories and sporting supplies.

STATUS: SB585 is now on the Assembly Floor and can be voted on at any time.

Facts regarding SB585:

• Law enforcement fears that the lack of the gun show would drive firearms sales underground due to the lack of a the gun show as a regulated location for such sales to take place.
• The unfair lack of access to this publicly-owned venue restricts the First Amendment Rights of many thousands of attendees who have done nothing wrong and should not have to endure such censorship.
• The gun show promoters, including Crossroads of the West (who produce the show at the Cow Palace) worked with law enforcement, the state fair board and others, in support of AB295 several years ago. AB295 provided protections, including event operation under the strict scrutiny of law enforcement, at all gun shows in the state.
• Gun show promoters in California, including Crossroads of the West, have a close working relationship with law enforcement agencies (at all levels) due to the nature of cooperation that exists at gun shows, such as the one at the Cow Palace.
• California has the toughest gun show laws of any state in the nation. Currently, California’s gun shows are monitored by local, state, and federal enforcement agencies and all firearms transactions are required to be processed by dealers who possess federal, state, and local licenses.
• Buying a firearm at a gun show is no different than going to a firearms dealer’s store. All firearms transactions occur only after a comprehensive background check that includes a 10-day waiting period before a firearm can be delivered to the new owner. SB585 is an attempt by anti-firearms rights activists to find more creative ways to discourage people from owning firearms! Like most such bills, it would have no impact on criminals, just on lawful individuals!
• Please note: As a major gun show promoter throughout California, Crossroads of the West Gun Shows (Bob and Lynn Templeton) have been STRONG NRA supporters for more than twenty years. Their efforts to support the NRA have resulted in the recruitment/retention of tens-of-thousands of NRA members throughout this time. And as we all know, this is California — a battleground state for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and every NRA member is important to the survival of the Second Amendment.

Bass Pro Shops Fall Hunting Classics

Springfield, Missouri — -(AmmoLand.com)- During this economic downturn when everyone is having to tighten their belts a bit, it’s nice to be able to still do things you enjoy or continue traditions that are a part of your families’ heritage. And, it’s even better if it’s free!

The Fall Hunting Classics are such a tradition at Bass Pro Shops. This year, nearly 6 million people are expected to attend the 2009 Fall Hunting Classics August 7th through 23rd. This 17-day event will be held at 51 Bass Pro Shops retail locations across the United States and Canada and it is all free.

“This event is huge and hunters and other outdoor sportsmen and women look forward to it all year long, said Bass Pro Shops spokeswoman Katie Mitchell. “Outdoor enthusiasts will be able to learn the secret techniques and strategies used by professionals to gain a better advantage in the field, see all the latest products and attend workshops and seminars. And, there is a ‘ripple effect’ as other area retailers, gas stations, hotels and restaurants benefit as well from the increased traffic the Classic generates,” Mitchell added.

But why does Bass Pro Shops go to all the time, trouble and expense, especially in these gloomy economic times, to host such an event? According to Mitchell, ‘hunting is big business.’ And, indeed it is. A report by the Congressional Sportsmen Foundation cites America’s 34 million hunters and anglers are an economic powerhouse—spending some $8.6 million an hour. If this $76 billion-a-year industry were a corporation it would be among America’s 20 largest, ahead of Target, Costco and AT&T.

Hunting and fishing sportsmen directly support 1.6 million jobs, spend more than a billion dollars just on licenses, stamps, tags and permits, and they generate $25 billion a year in federal, state and local taxes. More than 12.5 million hunters and shooting sports enthusiasts pump $24.9 billion into the economy each year. Where do those billions go? They spend $2.4 billion on guns and rifles, $203 million on binoculars, field glasses and other Optics, decoys and game calls equate to $187 million, hunting apparel takes up $459 million and ammunition purchases equate to $696 million.

Just food and drinks consumed on hunting trips eats up $2.1 billion. And, on lodging alone, hunters spend $614 million—more than the combined annual revenues of Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality Inn, EconoLodge, Rodeway Inn and Sleep Inn ($482 million).

But the buck doesn’t stop there. It is vitally important that today’s youth get involved in the outdoors so they can become the stewards and conservationists of tomorrow to insure the maintenance and well-being of our natural resources.

“I’ve heard it said that if you don’t have a fishing rod in the hands of a youngster by the time they are 8 years old, the chances of getting them to go fishing later in life diminishes dramatically,” said Mitchell. “I would think the same applies to getting them introduced to hunting and shooting sports,” she continued.

Why is this so important? The sale of hunting licenses, tags and stamps is the primary source of funding for most state wildlife conservation efforts. Hunters and anglers have always been, and continue to be, the largest contributors to government wildlife conservation programs. Through excise taxes and license revenues, these sportsmen have contributed more than $10 billion dollars to conservation and provide more than 80% of the funding for most state fish and wildlife agencies. Just from hunters alone, nearly $200 million in hunters’ federal excise taxes are distributed to State agencies to support wildlife each year.

Success stories of these wildlife restoration projects are exemplified though the ‘bringing back’ of dozens of species such as ducks, wild turkeys and white-tailed deer. In 1900 there were less than 100,000 wild turkeys in the nation. Today there are 7 million. Rock Island Auction Company - -(AmmoLand.com)- Single raised nickel bead on the barrel, which has been shortened to its current length, cylinder choke, with “P/ bomb” and “* * *” on the left side of the breech and 2 3/4 inch chamber.

The “P/ bomb” is repeated on the left side of the frame, near the “U.S.” stamp, with “S/ M” on the lower tang and a ribbed sighting groove on top.

Checkered and grooved forearm, smooth pistol grip stock and serrated buttplate.

Condition:
Altered, with 80% of the blue finish, showing hints of a brown patina on the barrel, streaks of gray on the frame, and mild scratches and handling marks overall. Mismatched wood, with a filled area on the left side of the forearm and mild pressure dents. Mechanically excellent. ( See RIA Auction for Exact Condition Details)

Our evaluation for condition will consist of using a grading system whereby we will assign a rating to an item based on the below grading chart similar to the “NRA” grading system for firearms.

This is an imperfect grading system. We are sure there will be examples that do not exactly match the chart. It is our intention to assign a rating which we feel is closest to what we believe is the rating the firearm substantially falls into. This is simply our opinion.

We do not guarantee this rating. We acknowledge that this is very subjective and will result in rating assignments that may be judged “incorrect”.

The terms of this Regional sale are simple. Everything is sold “as is”. No warranty, guaranty, pledge or endorsement of condition exists between Rock Island Auction Company and any successful bidder.

The catalog is simply a list describing items to be sold. Absolutely no returns will be allowed for any reason. Ultimately we expect each buyer to form their own opinion as to what each item is and to determine its condition.

We encourage you, a friend or agent to actually view items that are to be sold (or that you are bidding on). In summary the terms and conditions of sale as posted in this catalog are the contract under which bids both live and absentee are accepted. Each bidder acknowledges this and agrees that all items are sold as is without warranty or guarantee, endorsement or pledge.

Antique or older guns require a different standard for condition rating, An 80% finish gun would have a different rating depending on age. A gun manufactured in 1900 that retains 80% or better original finish would be rated excellent applying NRA standards.

Yet a recently manufactured gun displaying 80% finish would only be rated very good. To address this issue our rating system will be split into two distinct categories older guns or newer guns classification. This older and newer must not be mistaken for antique versus modern for ATF rules.

Antique guns (those manufactured before December 31st, 1898) are not subject to ATF restrictions. Our classification of older and newer is simply a condition rating and should not be relied upon for ATF classification of antique or modern. Generally we look at 1920 – 1930 as the breakpoint between older/newer.

This is clearly over the 1898 threshold for modern versus antique for ATF rules consideration, thus a firearm with an “O” rating may be considered “modern” by ATF classification. It is up to the individual to know what they are bidding on. In any case ATF rules will be strictly adhered to.

Newer Condition Rating (1930’s or newer)
NA = NEW – all original parts; 99% or more original finish.
NB = EXCELLENT – near new condition 95% – 98%, used but little, no noticeable marring of wood or metal, bluing near perfect (some wear at muzzle or sharp edges can be expected).
NC = FINE – All original finish 90% – 94% or better, some dings in wood wear commensurable with percent of finish. In working order.
ND = VERY GOOD – in working condition, 80% finish or better, appreciable wear on working surfaces 80% – 89%, no corrosion or pitting, minor surface dents or scratches. Wood condition commensurable with percent of finish with dings and dents associated with 80% – 89% gun.
NE = GOOD – in working condition, wear on working surfaces, finish 40% – 79%, no broken parts, no corrosion or pitting that will interfere with proper functioning, but may have some minor surface pitting. Wood condition commensurable with percent of finish with dings and dents associated with 40% – 79% gun.
NF = FAIR – 0% – 40% with generally smooth finish, may have mild cleaning yet not deeply pitted, but well worn, replacement of minor parts may need mechanical adjustments, may have rust and may have corrosion pits which do not render article unsafe or inoperable. In working condition. Wood condition commensurable with percent of finish with dings and dents associated with 0% – 40% gun.
NG = POOR – major or minor parts replaced; major replacement parts required and extensive restoration needed; metal deeply pitted; principal lettering, numerals and design obliterated, wood badly scratched, bruised, cracked or broken; mechanically inoperative; generally undesirable as a collectors firearm in its present state. Finish obscured by heavy cleaning, rust or corrosion.

Older Condition Rating (1930’s or older)
OA = FACTORY NEW – all original parts; 100% original finish; in perfect condition
in every respect.
OB = EXCELLENT – all original parts; over 80% original finish; sharp lettering,
numerals and design on metal; unmarred wood.
OC = FINE – all original parts; over 30% original finish, sharp lettering, numerals and design on metal and wood; minor marks in wood.
OD = VERY GOOD – all original parts; none to 30% original finish; original metal surfaces smooth with all edges sharp; clear lettering, numerals and design on metal; wood slightly scratched or bruised.
OE = GOOD – some minor replacement parts; metal smoothly rusted or lightly pitted in places, cleaned; principal lettering, numerals and design on metal legible; lightly scratched, bruised or minor cracks repaired; in good working order.
OF = FAIR – some major parts replaced; minor replacement parts may be required; metal rusted, may be lightly pitted all over, vigorously cleaned; rounded edges of metal and wood; principal lettering, numerals and design on metal partly obliterated; wood scratched, bruised, cracked or repaired where broken; in fair working order or can be easily repaired and placed in working order.
OG = POOR – major or minor parts replaced; major replacement parts required and extensive restoration needed; metal deeply pitted; principal lettering, numerals and design obliterated, wood badly scratched, bruised, cracked or broken; mechanically inoperative; generally undesirable as a collectors firearm in its present state.

Peaked interest in the gun market, particularly collectable firearms has Rock Island defying the faltering economy. Strong bidding participation drove total sales to over $8.5 million; coupled with spectacular results from their Spring regional auction RIAC is set to break another industry record for the year. This sale featured over 2800 lots of quality firearms, edged weapons, military artifacts and more.

The economy had no hold on RIAC bidders, over 97% of this auction sold! This amazing sell through rate proves that bidders come to Rock Island Auction to buy.

A portion of the proceeds from the Will Hoffeld’s estate benefited the NRA foundation. The NRA Foundation is the country’s leading charitable organization in support of the shooting sports. Will’s passion for firearms will continue through the family’s generous donation to this important organization.

This auction proved strong for all genres of firearms and every level of collecting. The outstanding selection of Winchesters were among the top sellers of the auction. A rare factory engraved New Haven Arms Company Henry rifle commanded a price of $103,500. Lot 3702 an exceptional Winchester panel-engraved model 1866 carbine sold for $63,250 followed by lot 3718, an exceptional Winchester Model 1886 musket with bayonet which brought a price of $54,625.

At Rock Island Auction Company, Colts repeatedly show their importance as high value collectables and solid investments. Of the military inspected Colt Cavalry’s offered, an Ainsworth inspected U.S. Colt Model 1873 stood out bringing a within estimate price of $40,250. A Colt flattop double action model 1878 frontier revolver serial number 1 sold for $40,250. The collection of engraved Colts also did well, a documented factory engraved, silver-plated, Colt single action army revolver with carved pearl grips reached $21,850. The Hoffeld estate brought several rare Colts including 4 Patersons with no reserve! A rare Colt pocket model Paterson revolver no. 1 sold above estimate for $20,700. There were nearly 100 Colt Brevetes in this auction from the Hoffeld collection, a bid of $5,175 won an engraved Japanese copy of a Colt Model 1851 navy percussion revolver.

Outstanding results were seen in the spectacular selection of shotguns and sporting arms. An abundance of rare calibers and gauges drove bidding interest to achieve a total of over $2.3 million in this genre. Above estimate prices were obtained on an excellent cased engraved Purdey & Sons two barrel set double barrel shotgun and rifle with scope ($40,250) & a G. Gournet engraved Parker reproduction A-1 special three barrel set side by side shotgun with original leather takedown case ($28,750). The sporting rifles were led by the exceptional collection of pre-64 Winchester Model 70’s which were in high demand as collectors sought to own one of these hard to find guns in rare calibers. All of the model 70’s sold, many above the high estimate, in fact the price realized on this collection was nearly twice the high estimate!

Scott Meadows lead off the military firearms in this auction with dozens of rare, experimental and prototype 1911’s. An exceptional early first year production two digit serial number Colt Model 1900 sight safety semi automatic pistol with factory letter brought $21,850. Ample participation in class III firearms brought $31,625 on a police-marked, Colt, model 1921/28 US Navy over-stamp Thompson submachine gun.

An impressive grouping of deringers came to the auction block with over 50 high condition Philadelphia and Henry deringers. A set of cased engraved and gold banded Henry deringer percussion pistols with coin silver furniture brought a within estimate price of $43,125. An above estimate prices were obtained for two San Francisco agent marked Henry deringer percussion pistols, a N. Curry marked, engraved and silver furnished with silver barrel bands and an A.J. Plate marked pocket pistol brought $17,250 and $18,400 respectively.

The Frank and Karen Sellers collection headlined the Sharps of this auction. His patent models and sharps drew bids up to $28,750 for a rare Sharps model 1877 No. 1 long range rifle. His parts also did well, a lot of three Sharps receivers with barrels sold for $6,325.

Edged weapons brought bids from phone, fax, email and the floor. Of the many fine Bowie knives offered, a rare English & Hubers Bowie knife with sheath and an A. Carr spear point Bowie knife with sheath sold for $13,800 and $2,875 respectively. A nice selection of swords included a rare Eagle Pommel U.S. Naval officer’s sword which realized an above estimate price of $6,900.

RIAC continues to offer fine antique and collectable firearms at auction, this sale had over 2,100 items classified as antique or curio and relic! Many fine Indian war items and documented Custer battlefield relics drew interested buyers. A lot of items belonging to a Little Bighorn survivor, 1st Sergeant John M. Ryan sold for $6,900; this lot included rare discharge documents, an Indian War campaign medal and a forage cap. An outstanding U.S. Springfield Model 1873 carbine in 7th Cavalry serial number range brought $25,875 and a U.S. Springfield model 1870 trapdoor Indian rifle with brass tack decorations sold for $6,325.

As a whole the April auction was a success, with a high sell through rate and sales reaching over $8.5 million. This auction had something for every level of collecting with interested buyers setting the auction prices not the house reserve. The result was satisfied buyers and sellers alike, a valuable goal for any auction house.
